You are Shax Gloombreaker, and after a delightful dinner, a dodged arranged marriage, and finding out that everyone is pretty concerned with your future, you have found yourself in front of a supposedly haunted castle! The trees up ahead are all dead and gross looking, and you hope you don't have to actually fight any ghosts because those are just no good. Just no good at all.

You have:
>2/64 BtB exp
>3/64 MSiF exp
>49/56 CyRCTHaM exp

>Shax's Stuff! So you can keep track: http://pastebin.com/U3hKZfAd
>Shax Company!: http://pastebin.com/mZgVD5yH
>Shax Ability Tree Finally Updated: http://pastebin.com/aBfqv1vP
>I'm the boss! Points: 0
>Pearls: 7

If you remember correctly, this forest is supposedly patrolled by a ghost knight or something. You're hoping it is actually a zombie and the ghost part was made up. Because zombies are easy to cut up, but ghosts are filled with curses and they like to possess people and it is really spooky! You don't know what you'd do if one of your friends got possessed. At least the cyberkobolds probably don't have to worry about it. They don't have souls, right?

Anyway. What is the plan!

>Wander aimlessly in the forest till you get to the castle.
>Figure out some cunning plan to mark the trees as you travel!
>There isn't a convenient fairy girl playing music to lead you through, is there? No? Alright! Let's find a fairy girl!

C'mon, Shax. Think about it for a minute. That just means they're even easier to possess!

>There isn't a convenient fairy girl playing music to lead you through, is there? No? Alright! Let's find a fairy girl!
Anyway, this is a great plan because if we've got a fairy we just met up front, even if we run into a ghost, it's going to possess the fairy first and we can just run away from it really fast and then find a new, less spooky fairy to lead us around.

If you know one thing about haunted woods is that children always get lost in them. Goblins are pretty short, so the direction spirits must think you're a child. Because you're definitely lost. Every dead tree looks identical to the last one. Sitri was leading the way, but after a bit she shrugged and is in the middle of the pack with everyone else. There hasn't even been any sign of a monster or ANYTHING. Haunted woods? More like the most boring forest every created.

All this wandering has given Xab plenty of time to read the manual on the cybolds included with his upgrade kit. Though he struggled with many of the harder words, and declared some of the potential functions as strictly heretical, he seems to have figure out some stuff! Before too long, the Cybolds were capable of switching their robot hand from a blade to a claw to a launching hook thing.

After a lot more wandering a single monster wandered into your party. It tried to run away, but it really didn't have a chance, and you rode it down on your dinosaur then tied it up. It was some ugly ogre looking thing.

"Hey! Tell me the way outta here!" You slap it a couple of times.

The brute just looks at you for a moment, cheeks reddening, "Ow. Why you gotta be so mean?" You slap him a few more times, "You've got quite the arm on you for such a skinny thing." Slap, slap, slap, "Cut it out will you?" Slap slap "Fuck, fine, you win! I don't know the way out!" Slap, slap, "Please stop! I really don't!" Slap "Alright, fine, I can take you to a fairy. She can help." You slap him one more time.

He gets up and tells the group to follow, and before too long you run into a small green, winged girl.

"This here is the seelie baroness of this land, Alariella. She's very powerful and scary," The ogre says solemnly.

She doesn't look it.

The green haired girl pulls the brim of her wide hat down around her ears when she sees you approach, "Glorforblag! Who are these strangers?! Are they going to hurt me?"

The ogre nods, "Yeah, especially this one here, she's super mean. Slapped me about one hundred times." The fairy makes an 'eep' noise and hides behind a tree. You glare at the ogre. "What? It's true." It was true, but he didn't have to be so mean!

Sitri walks up and waves at the fairy. "Haha, she might have slapped him, but she was mostly frustrated from being lost! It's okay! She won't slap you!"

You put your hands on your hips and puff your chest out, "Sitri's right! I am super nice!" You give an energetic wave, and your best smile, "My name is Shax! It's nice to meet you! It is okay I won't bite."

The ogre cocks his head, "Now, why are you being so nice to her and you just ran me over with a dinosaur as soon as you saw me?"

Xab spits out something, "You ain't cute." The Cybolds yip to reinforce that point. Whoop shrugs and gives a small nod. Nost and Rund look at each other. Nost raises his hands as if to make a point, and Rund simply shakes his head.

"It's alright. I've had worse looking compaions," Sitri says with a laugh, slapping the ogre on his back. You aren't going to look further into that.

Seeing the general jocularity of your group, the fairy creeps a bit closer to you and offers her hand. "Hello, I'm Alariella, and I rule the court in this forest." You look around her, "Ah, there aren't any other nobles, and maybe only half a dozen knights here with me." She curtsies, "It is nice to meet you, Shax."

She's definitely going to be super impressed that we have knights too.

I don't know if we can get anything from her if we don't, though.

Some fey want to help, some want to hurt, and they all act the pretty much same way and follow the same rules. It's not the contracts or the rules or the promises, it's the intentions of the fey only that comes down to being screwed over.

You just got to be a good judge of character and maybe take a leap of faith when it comes to fey.

"Anyway, did he say you were a seelie baroness?" Sitri leans over and puts on a serious face when looking at the girl, "That's interesting, shoudln't the unseelie court be in power this season? You guys should have traded off fairly recently."

The fairy girl makes a surprised face, "Ehhh? How'd you know about that sorta stuff?

Sitri tosses her hair with a confident smile on her face, "Heh. Don't underestimate me. I'm an experienced bard seeking out many different tales! A simple matter like keeping track of local regions seasonal fae court changes is just part of the job. Wouldn't your knights get a hell of a lot weaker as the season wore on? You should be feeling pretty ill yourself. But you look fine." Sitri is giving her a suspicious look. You don't know anything about fairies. You were just told to not eat any food they offer.

The ogre looks slightly nervous, but the fairy girl just giggles a bit, "You're a bit off on your calendar. I just took over. Anyway, why are you here?"

"Gonna loot that castle," You blurt out, "Can ya tell me how to get there?" She places a finger on her lips and looks unsure. "I can make it worth your while." She glances at you.

"How?"

Shrugging, "I dunno. But I'm sure we can figure someting out?"

The fairy girl gets an odd look to her, "Alright. Kill that annoying ghost knight and I'll show you how to get to the castle."

"Whaaaat, that guy is real?" The fairy crosses her arms and nods, "I dunno where he is, though." The fairy rolls her eyes. "But you do, obviously. Obviously."

Heck, if it weren't for the fact that ghosts are spooky and weird, I wouldn't be surprised if we decided to just ask the ghost knight to show us the way once we get there instead.

You shrug, "Sure thing. As long as it lets me get into the castle." The green fairy claps her hands together and lets out an innocent sounding laugh.

"Delightful! My knights will show you the way, then." She rolls some absolutely horrifying combination of vowels out from her mouth and three creatures show up. Each is clad in diaphonous green armor, and using some sorta strange bug as a mount. In their hands are spears with flowers around the blade. Kinda weird. One inclines its head at you, and turns around, speeding off. Quickly, you motion for your boys to follow and you head out.

Quickly, the mass copse of trees give way to small vestiges of civilization. Crumbling flgstones appear, and form a more solid road the further along you travel. The fae knights slow down quickly as you reach a strange looking fountain, that seems to be pumping ichor through the pipes. Gross.

"He normally hunts around here, goblin. May your blade strike true. If you fulfill your end of the bargain, Alariella will find you shortly thereafter." Giving a short nod again, the knight flies off with his companions. Odd bunch.

After standing around with your minions for a few monets, Rund approaches you, "What the heck do we do now, boss?" Those seem to be the magic words, and you hear the braying of a horse from close by.

A black miasma surrounds a heavily armored figure on horseback as it comes charging into your group, sword scything menacingly! You manage to dodge to one side, your sword passing through the horse harmlessly as it runs down a Cybold, cutting the creature in two.

When it comes back around, you aim at the knight himself, this time connecting solidly and knocking him off his horse, but gets up quickly. By the way he fends off a few probing attacks, it looks like he knows a thing or two about swording.

"Hey! This guy is a swordsman like me! Stay back, boys. I'mma duel him." You hold your sword out in an attack stance, slowly circling the knight as he does the same.

A raspy voice seems to tear through the air, "Honor? From a goblin?" It seems full of spite, "I had thought the whipping boys of orcs to be no better than they. Perhaps I was wrong." He readies his weapon and dashes in with a low sweep!

You figure meeting him head on is fine. You've got more power than him... probably. You smash your sword down overhead to knock him off balance when he gets close, pulling back in a half spin to bring your sword about in another brutal arc. He manages to duck under your strike, bringing his blade up at your neck, but only glances you as you roll back from his attack. Jeez, when was the last time you even got hit?? This guy is fast! He ducks out from inside your reach before you can bring your guard close.

This calls for some old school tactics! As you get enough distance, you start up a spin, careening towards the knight in a whirlwind of destruction. He easily sidesteps and dodges out of your range, circling behind you with a quick step. When you slow down to change directions, he steps in, letting loose another flurry of blows you have to block with your sword. You can barely follow his movement!

Slamming your blade forward to try and keep his feet unstable, you start unleashing your own storm of attacks. If spinning to win doesn't work, you'll just have to use actual sword play! You've got the strength, balance and skill for that now! His guard starts to falter as you continue to rain blows, tearing the landscape apart in your pursuit of the knight. It isn't long before you manage to catch him with a solid blow, glancing though it may be, and knock him to his feet, leveling your blade at his head.

"I yield, goblin girl. I've not seen a savage display like that before in my long, long life."

It's pretty clear this guy is a Seelie champion and the baroness we talked to earlier just muttered the "un" part of unseelie so softly that we didn't hear it before. So the question is, do we want to set ourselves up as the new supreme ruler of the unified fae courts? Or do we just play them against each other?
>>
>>33683625
I think Shax's bullheaded and fickle attitude gives people very little room to be deceived. She does what she wants and that's it.

Hell, that lizard guy who betrayed us didn't even deceive us, he just got dragged along and thought, "hey, why not stab this chick while she's down?"

"Blaise!" You shout, looking at the maid with your hands on your hips.

She stares at you. "What?" You give her a glare and she rolls her eyes, "Mistress."

"Fightin' this dude got me all yucky. Towel me off!"

"You cannot be serious." You simply tap your foot in response as she groans and grabs a towel, walking over to where you are. It's good to be chief.

With Blaise attending you, you give the knight a good look. "So, take off your helmet. I can't properly interrogate a tin can."

"As you wish," Putting a hand on his visor, he unlatches his helmet, pulling it off. Underneath is a smooth skull, completely cleaned of any flesh. It has a clean, polished appearance. Not at all yellow or cracked.

Blaise's movements come to a jerky stop, and she quickly wrings the towel and turns her back on the knight. Is she spooked? You feel a little less spooked now that Blaise is spooked. Gotta be brave for the boys, after all. You point a finger at him, "How'd you get all bony? I heard it was a curse."

The knight nods, "It was that, aye, and more. My noble soul was twisted by the women I loved. She enslaved the demon who conquered this castle. Turned him into her familiar. With his powers, she ruled as a shadow queen of an orcish empire that lasted over a hundred years. I stayed here, cursed to forever guard the depths of her betrayal against all comers."

"And did you? I mean, I gotta know if there is still loot in there."

"Oh, aye. No one has stepped foot inside on my watch." Sitri said people had, though. Well, he seems like he wouldn't let more than a few in, anyway!

"So, if you've kept anyone from enterin' the castle, then how does my goat girl over here know what's inside of it?" You point a thumb at Sitri, who is standing behind you with her arms crossed and looking kinda bored.

Regarding her for a moment, the skull turns back to face you once more. "I wouldn't trust the words of a spawn of chaos, goblin."

Sitri takes offense to that, "Hey, I'm just letting Shax know what I've heard, is all."

"And you've heard untruths. No one has stepped inside."

You give Sitri a grin, "That's good news, right? It means all the loot is there! So skeleton man, show us the way! I won't have to smash you to bits that way."

The knight does not budge. "I'm afraid I physically am incapable of doing anything that might lead someone to the castle. It is a part of my curse."

Whoop walks up, "This one could probably do something about that which afflicts you."

The skeleton knight shakes his head, "Please, you've defeated me. Let me not suffer any longer on this plane." Whoop bows and then blasts him with some sort of purifying light.

"Go now, sufferer, to the sea of miracles."

You raise a hand, "Uh, Whoop? I wasn't done talkin' to him."

His wide, frog like eyes seem even more shocked than their usual appearance suggests. "Oh, this one didn't... apologies." You pat him on the shoulder.

A short time later a knight arrives with Alariella. "Heya, Shax! I see you took care of our little knight problem. Let's talk about that castle, shall we?"

"Before we begin, I must explain to you the glorious history of my noble lineage and how this relates to the cursed castle before you. You see, it all began when-" All this talking is making you hungry. You idly wonder if eating while having important conversations all the time the past several months has given you some sorta mental conditioning to want to be chewing on something when someone wants to have a conversation. Maybe you're just really hungry. You've felt pretty hungry lately, even though you've been eating a lot. Hopefully it isn't a parasite? You don't think it would be one, and besides, Allonces' health powers woulda stopped you from getting one, right? Patting your stomach, you look down abit worriedly as Sitri raises her hand to ask a few questions that get answered. "-And that brings us to the crux of the matter, Shax," Your instincts tell you that you should pay attention again. "That very emblem was the favor given by my mother to the greatest knight who had ever lived. His name was-" Okay, your instincts were wrong. You give Blaise a worried look.

The maid clears her throat and raises a hand, and when addressed, "Pardon me, but time is of the essence. What do you want us to do about all that?"

Alariella pulls her hat down around her ears, "I'm sorry, don't yell at me. I wanted you to try and find my mother's mirror in the castle. It's a precious family heirloom. Pure silver, unicorns on the sides, and a roaring lion at the top. It would be hard to miss. Please?"

You wave your hand, "Sure whatever, where is the castle." The fairy offers a smirk.

"It's a promise, then." There is an odd weight you feel from that statement, but you ignore it as you find yourself in front of the castle.
