Welcome to Academy City. The time is noon, the weather is warm, and the date is August 28.

You are ‘Kyril Torikov, ‘Level 2’ Telekinetic Child Error and you have just made your good escape. While you were loathe to leave Asuka, your girlfriend, before she was discharged, you prioritised escaping with your life first. Her uncle, a certain Fujimoto Shiro, was rather angry with you. Part of it was your fault, the other you chalked up as him being overprotective. He was angry enough to lose the ability to form grammatically correct sentences. You had found it funny until he pulled a pistol. That merited a hasty exit. Asuka had blown you a kiss as you dove out the window, leaving her amused mother, an exasperated Sparky and a perplexed Kongou Mitsuko.

The day could only get busier from here on out. In addition to meeting Asuka’s family on her mother’s side, you had been put in contact with some of the “bigger fish” in Academy City. They had in no uncertain terms detailed the consequences of your actions the previous day. Now you were in their employ and had been given a tablet with which they were going to contact you. Other than you also had another problem. You, and pretty much everyone you’ve met so far, were bathed in green mana, random pedestrians included. While you didn’t feel like anything was different, the only other person you remember who had one was Teacher, a pseudo-immortal. Answers to the whole situation would be nice. Other than that, Nakazawa still had stuff for you to do. Hopefully it involved less traffic violations.

Your first priority was to,
>Investigate magic
>See Nakazawa
>Check the tablet

>See Nakazawa
Not like we can do anything about the magic anyway, we've been ignoring Nakazawa lately and should see what we can do to help.
>>
>>33675571
>See Nakazawa
Priorities, right?
>>
>>33675571
>Investigate magic
We're already stuck under one member of the board, we might as well keep our noses out of trouble, and considering Nakazawa wants us to sabotage his opponents, that counts as trouble.

>Investigate magic

>>33675672
While I agree with you, I can't think of Kyril just ignoring fucking mana auras on eveyone.

We still have a few days for Nakazawa and basically unlimited time for the higher-ups (unless they call us), so we should do that.

(My Captcha was a gray blur on a black background... Wat?)

>>33676176
Index isn't here, she's playing with Touma, or not, she looks like a dude to him atm.
>>
>>33676236
Well, time to call Touma then.
>>
>>33676283
He's a bit busy getting his ass kicked by Tsuchimikado.
>>
>>33676313
Who else do we know that knows magic?
>>
>>33676313
Sounds like a perfect time to do it.

>>33676357
We could also call Teacher or Kaoru.
>>
>>33676357
Source one is Teacher, since he'd likely have the best idea why everything would end up with the same mana color as him. (guessing it's for mana sources powered by the belief of others, Teacher is a legendary figure, as are angels). Then there's Kaoru, who's the only one in the city who knows about magic and can actually investigate.

You’ve left Nakazawa high and dry for long enough so you were going to drop by and do some ‘honest’ work for once. You had two days left and procrastinating isn’t going to change that fact. Having decided that, you were still mildly curious about why everyone was glowing green. There was only one person you could ask about that right about now. That meant going back to your room but you figured you could use lunch and a shower as well. If only Index were here.

You sent Nakazawa a message saying you were going to clock in this afternoon and he replied positively. After that you unfolded a familiar letter. As usual, the mana formed the image of Teacher.

“Whoa,” it greeted.

“It’s me, Kyril,” you returned.

“I knew that kid,” the image seemed defensive, “I take it something’s come up.”

“Yeah, everyone is glowing green,” you continued.

“That’s interesting,” its tone changed to curiosity, “That’s probably something an incompatibility between systems.”

“Uh huh, that’s really helpful Teach,” you sighed, “I know that ‘normal’ magicians show up in yellow, so I have no idea why even I’m showing up in green.”

“Well I’m not exactly programmed for this you know,” it explained, “I’m just a fragment of his mind and it’s not like he’s paying attention to this one right now. I’m like a computer that’s not hooked up to the network and all the local files are combat apps.”

“So you don’t know what Teach is up to right now?”

“Probably figuring out why everyone is ‘showing up in green’ so to speak,” it shrugged, “I’m not even sure why he shows up in green to you anyway but I bet this ‘green’ problem is related to his magic.”

Maybe you should actually call Teacher then. It’s not like you didn’t have money for international calls. The only other magic-related person you knew was Kaoru, and you’re not sure if she would have anything to contribute.

It was time to make an international call then. Thanking the image of Teacher, you folded up the letter and found Teacher’s business card. From there you dialled in the number and hoped the rates weren’t astronomical, even if you did have the money for it. It took a while to connect.

“Hey kid, how’s it going,” he greeted amidst thunderclaps.

“Is this a bad time?” you asked.

“Nope not at all,” then he was cut off.

It sounded like he dropped the phone. There was also screaming.

“Sorry about that,” he apologised, “Temporary lost my arm to DShK fire. You wanted to ask me something?”

“You’re in a warzone,” it wasn’t a question.

“Israel, if you were wondering,” he elaborated, “Trying to get these headless chickens to keep calm and carry one ever since someone dragged an Angel out of their Heaven.”

“Their Heaven?”

“Abrahamic Heaven,” he answered before shouting at someone else, “Get down you idiot.”

The phone dropped the ground again. There was more screaming and swearing. You waited another minute.

“Hey, you still there kid?” Teacher came on again.

“Yeah.”

“If your question was how to stop the spell which caused an Angel to fall and coincidentally is also switching everyone’s appearances around then you have to obliterate the actual magic array in one hit,” he explained, “But if you’re asking why everyone thing is showing up in green then I don’t know. If you’re asking why I show up in green it’s probably because I’ve accidently made ‘Zhuge Liang will live another 12 million years’ a law of reality. Draw your own conclusions.”

[1/2]
>>
>>33677911
“And you can’t stop it?”

“Well I think the spell was cast somewhere in Japan. Definitely not in Academy City though,” he added quickly, “I’d love to drop something right on top of it but I currently have my hands full right now. Well actually that’s a lie. I don’t have any hands at the moment. I’m holding the phone with my foot. Don’t ask.”

“But it’s not doing anything bad though?”

“Apart from pissing off the Angel that is currently on Earth, then no,” he answered, “I bet the Anglicans already have people on the case. If not, well I’ll get around to dealing with it as soon as I have arms again, and a new hat.”

Well it didn’t look like you could do anything about it.

“It was nice talking to you anyway Teacher,” you wrapped it up, “Got your letter too. It’s been helpful. Maybe we’ll see each other someday alright?”

“Glad to hear it kid.”

You hung up. With your curiosity sated, now was time to get back to business. Funny how you wanted to call Kaoru earlier, you didn’t think she’d have given you a good answer. Wait, now that you thought about it, Last Order was still probably with her.

And then Kaoru kills someone during the abduction, trying to defend Mishka.

Meh I like Kaoru, but we've had prophetic visions of her chasing us to the ends of the earth for our misdeeds. Also she's dedicated to the law and justice, which can't be good for a petty thief.

>>
>>33678432
>Asuka beat Kaur so wouldn't beating Asuka be worth more?

Hey now Kyril may be slightly criminal but he wouldn't beat his own waifu.
>>
>>33678464
what if she's into that?
>>
>>33678432
I don't think Kaoru was using all her might and magic in that fight.
>>
>>33678489
pls anon. I don't need that mental image. Though he might need a ball gag just to be sure he doesn't strangle himself again if she gets too into it.

Though in general I would assume level 5 Kyril would curbstomp Asuka. Just because he knows her powers well enough to get a shot in. Though it would probably be a game of rocket tag. He would have enough raw strength to pretty much send her to the morgue but she would have enough mental control to screw him if she got it though.
>>
>>33678661
Honestly, with how her powers work, I think Kyril would only be more susceptible to them from being in a relationship with her.
>>
>>33678695
Doesn't really work that way. It sets her as an authority above you so it doesn't really matter how close you are now since in the end it's still the same effect.

Though yeah pretty much it really just depends on who would get the first shot and what method she used to try. If she tried to talk at that level I think he could create a heavy wind and drown it out. On the other hand if she raised her hand in a stop sign it might freeze him enough to win. So it's kind of a "Who gets the first strike in?" thing here.
>>
>>33678796
There is also the option of simply shooting her with an antimaterial rifle at a distance.
>>
>>33678796
The end effect doesn't matter here. It's that she's already damn important to him, and it would be easier for her powers to work.

Think about the last time she got shot.
>>
>>33678841
Or use Telekinetic Railgun method discussed in earlier threads.
>>
its pretty obvious how Kyril vs Asuka ends

it ends in sex
>>
>>33678842
Her power is pretty binary. It works or it does not.
>>
>>33678912
>>
>>33678912
Well yeah. Nobody's doubting that.
>>
>>33678841
>using a real weapon
>level 5 telekinetic
>not just shooting a tk bullet
>>
>>33678842
That was more because the guy couldn't imagine someone above him. Which has no real bearings here because any at all would end the fight.

>>33678912
Pretty much. I just like to do the theoreticals. In reality it would most likely end with mentally scarring a bunch of people.
>>
>>33678959
Unless we fuck something important up. And we're going to fuck something up, the only question is if it's important.
>>
>>33678661
>implying Level 5 Kyril wouldn't just do this
>>
>>33678982
Actually even at level 5 a gun is pretty useful here. Mainly because then he could shoot the things like hound dogs or whatever but use TK on things like the houses and the likes.
>>
>>33679036
Depending on how much his range increases it could be hilarious to drop a satellite on someones head.

"I learned from the best you know?"
>>
Man you felt terrible about having forgotten about LO. She was your little sister goddamnit. Asuka was certainly important but. Now you just felt terrible about yourself. You knew there would be problem when you signed up to take of her but you haven’t actually been taking care of her too well now. On top of that you were more or less dreading talking to Kaoru. No doubt the Sikh would have a lecture or two about your neglect. You called her anyway.

“Thank goodness you called,” Kaoru seemed harried.

“Uh, is this about Last Order?” you started.

“No, but it is not enough that I have to look after your little sister is it?,” now her voice was stern, “If it wasn’t for her I would be looking in to why Kyouko-san just ran off screaming this morning.”

“Did it involve a change in appearance or?”

“She did ask who I was this morning,” she relayed, “I reintroduced myself but I did not think she believed me and ran out screaming about body snatchers, or words to that effect.”

“Ah.”

You then told her about what you had discussed with Teacher earlier.

“That would explain a few things,” Kaoru mused, “In either case I would like to ask you a favour if you had the time.”

“I can’t promise anything though,” you sighed, “I’m kinda busy.”

“Very well, if you could tell Kyouko-san to come home, I would appreciate it,” she said, “I understand that you are busy, no doubt working to provide for both yourself and your sister but if there any trouble in that regard I will be happy to assist you.”

She was mistaken.

“Yeah, sure, I’ll see if I can fit that in somewhere,” you replied.

>”I’m coming to pick her up now.”
>”I’m heading to work right now.”
>>
>>33679074
Level 6 is a sort of God mode, so I figure it would fit to be able to pull a satellite down at 5.

We should probably call Kyouko on the way. In fact, we should explain to both of them. We kind of owe Kaoru an explanation, because this is from her side.

I can imagine a higher level tk user would have no problem using his ability in a gun-like way.

There was no helping it. In fact, you kind of didn’t want to bother Kaoru with looking after Last Order for a bit. That’s why you told her you were coming to pick up Last Order right now. It’s not like your work with Nakazawa was illegal or anything. Hell it probably wasn’t life threatening so there shouldn’t be a problem if you brought her to work with you. Who knows, maybe she’d be useful in her own way. As for Kyouko, you didn’t want to call her just yet. Apparently you weren’t yourself right now. Thus you sent her a message, explaining the worldwide spell that was in place. That got no reply. You then informed her that Asuka had woken up. Her reply to that was four letters, “nuts.” Once you arrived at Kaoru’s place, Last Order was happy to see you.

“Onii-san I missed you, says Misaka says Misaka as she gives you a hug.”

She pretty much tackled you but you took it in stride.

“Sorry for bothering you Kaoru,” you apologised to the Sikh, “and thanks.”

“It is little trouble, I am more than happy to help,” she replied, “I received a reply from Kyouko-san. She’ll be back whenever the spell wears off. She thinks my appearance is off-putting.”

You shrugged and made to leave.

“So, where are we going onii-san? Asks Misaka asks Misaka as she wonders on where onii-san is taking Misaka.”

“Work,” you replied, “It’s nothing dangerous. Just helping a friend of mine with the ACRE Assembly is all.”

“I shall be there as well, I look forward to your results,” was Kaoru’s parting remark.

You didn’t know what to feel about that. What you did know was that the rest of the lads had already showed up before you did and were hard at work pretending like they were doing anything of import.

>>33680327
In actuality Nakazawa was pretty much tearing his hair out trying to get them organised. Sagara and Tadakuni were waging another one of their little prank wars by subtly messing with each other’s work arrangements. Kyousuke was discussing acoustics with both the interior designer and exhaust engineer. The amount of work he was actually doing was a big fat zero. A quick clap to get their attention however and they pretty much dropped whatever they were doing and formed up on you.

“Fuck I wish you got here sooner,” Nakazawa commented, “and who’s the kid?”

“I am Misaka, says Misaka says Misaka as she introduces herself.”

“My little sister,” you added quickly, “You don’t mind right?”

“I would but honestly, at this point it can’t be much worse than these three stooges,” he sighed.

The three Problem Children didn’t seem at all slighted.

“Just get the work done,” Nakazawa finished.

There were still a fair few things left to do.

No point in hanging back. You were always a little more on the proactive side. Still you had to resist the urge to slouch whilst rubbing your hands as Nakazawa handed you a piece of paper. One because you weren’t actually a cartoon villain, and two, Last Order had taken up residence on your shoulder. She probably liked the view up there.

“This is the best projections we have so far, according to the latest rumours,” he said.

It was a list of projects. Smack dab in the centre of the list was Nakazawa’s project, the eighth one to be precise. Admittedly some of them sound wacky, insane, or just plain ridiculous but at least you got to take them down a peg or two. However that was a lot of projects to go through and no doubt sabotaging them would change the rankings. Whether that was going to be a good thing or bad thing remained to be seen. That and sabotaging some now gave them a better chance to recover by the time the final grade was due. Of course if you were really determined you could put them permanently out of the running but that took time. You had two days to work with and seven projects to go through. Looks like you had to prioritise, you had to pick your targets, be selective.

Did you hit them all at once and set them back a bit, or did you go all in one or two at a time and hope the rankings change favourably? All of this of course was on the assumption that no one would attempt to disrupt Nakazawa’s project.

>Wat do?

“We’ll have to hit several of them at once,” you noted.

The rest nodded. You refrained from doing so lest Last Order lose grip.

“True that but it doesn’t look like it’ll take much to disrupt many of them,” Tadakuni spoke up, “I mean, we only need to steal the papers for these ones.”

The current top 5 were basically papers. There was little actual practical demonstration as everything had been recorded and put on a slide show presentation of some sort. All that was required was to steal said materials and hope the speakers weren’t good enough to ad lib without the visual support. It was a wonder how they ever scored so high, given Asuka’s position in the rankings.

“Some of the practical ones look really cool though,” Sagara added, “The Robots in Disguise one had a toaster that transformed in to a coilgun.”

“What about the home team?” Kyousuke weighed in, “We’re certainly not all that stealthy.”

“Same as always, we don’t have the time,” you repeated.

At least you had some sunglasses and a flashy leather jacket to distract people with. At worst you’d have to ditch them but it’s not like either were expensive to start with. Sagara however was probably hard to place since he’d do well both for sabotage and defence. As for Kyousuke, the best he could do was to call up some buddies to pay a visit to one of the exhibits.

“I think we should steal some of the practical ones,” Sagara continued, “Fence them quick enough and they’d never be able to recover in time.”

“Or we could just use them against the competition,” Nakazawa suggested, “It’d be a shame if a robot happened to go on a rampage now would it?”

“We are a bad influence on you,” Tadakuni remarked.

“No really?” Nakazawa returned.

Maybe we should hire some Skill-Out thugs, to rob one or two other places at the same time. It distracts Anti-Skill a bit and the city gets someone to blame it on. We only have to conceal our abilities in front of them.
>>
>>33683090
Sorry for the double post, but I just remembered that we could meet up with them after the heist and then scam them and take their part of the money as well. I'm pretty certain that they'd be willing to rob a bank, they are a criminal organisation and that's the way they get money to buy weapons usually.
>>
>>33683167
We somewhat got a reputation as a thief by now, we should refrain from scamming people we work with, even if they are just Skill-out.
Unprofessional and might keep potential clients away.
>>
>>33683314
Well, now you're right. I don't even know if they want to work with us after we betrayed some Skill-Out guys a long time ago, back in the first chapters. However, my point that they need the money for their weapons still stands and I still think it would be a good idea to hire them. (Although my idea to scam them really was greedy and maybe we can bait them into trying to scam us, so that we can scam them back. Just let them see our ability to make them angry and let them do things they'll regret.)

>>
>>33683589

Sometimes, you think Nakazawa was the one who was bad influence, talking to you in to these things. It was time to steal a robot. Not the most subtle course of action but the lead up to it was. It wasn’t hard to grab a lab coat as a disguise to scope out the mark beforehand. The rest of your crew would just have to make do with some official shirts and caps. Approaching the stand wasn’t a problem as well. All Last Order had to do was act her usual cheerful self and the coats around the stand were more than willing to show off their creation. You suspected desperation for recognition, or paedophilia. Either way it was an impressive piece of equipment. Of course asking for a tour of the cockpit didn’t seem likely.

The defences, if it could be called that, consisted of a measly USB stick carried on one of the coats. You weren’t sure which but you need to pick pocket them all to be sure. Tadakuni could do that easily enough. The next was actually controlling the damn thing. While it had a cockpit, you weren’t going to be caught sitting inside it, dead or alive. Thankfully it had a clunky remote control system. There were several laptops which were used to control it, so stealing it shouldn’t be too hard, given they tended to crowd around one half the time. You didn’t even have to touch it to take it away. The hard part was locking out the other laptops. Once you had both, you were pretty much home free to do what you pleased with the robot as long as the signals were in range.

[1/2]
>>
I think you're all complicating things needlessly. We just need to detonate 1kg of the plastic explosives and steal everything in the ensuing panic.
>>
>>33684059
I know, I just like being honest, makes me feel better. :P
>>
>>33683796
It's pretty unlikely for skill out though because everyone scams those bastards. In general though I agree.
>>
>>33684178
As for weaknesses, it looked like the team were very reliant on coffee, if any of those empty cups and mugs were anything to go by. Even if one of the laptops had been taken out by a stray spill they still didn’t move the cups away from their workstations. The other weakness was their apparent lack of surveillance technology. While the hall had its own cameras, they were mostly trained on the hallways that visitors walked through. The booths themselves needed their own cameras. If there was a blind spot in the security it would be on the ceiling. You were confident enough you could station yourself up there. On the other hand, if you took the laptop and ran, you’d have a better chance of evading any sort of pursuit though you recall Kaoru was patrolling outside.

You eyed the ceiling. There weren’t that many beams or stray protrusions but it should be enough to aid you in keeping out of sight. You’d have to keep applying your power near constantly to be able to just sit and work from up there. At least you would have a pretty great view of the robot running amok. Or just plain running, either worked. While you felt you slightly uneasy at having Last Order keep the coats occupied with her whilst you pretended to leave, she was more than enough to capture their attention. In reality you just moved out of sight to change clothes. From where you were you marvelled at how deft Tadakuni’s fingers were as Last Order pretty much held their collective attention. USB and laptop acquired, Tadakuni made a show of escorting Last Order away as the team said their goodbyes. With a little nudge here and there, the cups of coffee were overturned and the coats started to panic.

Control secured, you found a secluded spot to levitate yourself up to before the USB and laptop followed. It was both easier and harder to maintain your Ability constantly. Easy because you were using a I-beam to steady yourself, hard because you weren’t exactly sitting still. You had to keep yourself aloft whilst holding on to the laptop and typing in it. At least the controls were simple enough, even if it required both hands. It took the robot booting up to get the coats to focus on it. They were panicking now, since they didn’t have a way to control it and they bet the coffee spills somehow had a hand in it. That was fine with you. Now you were going to,

You were making off with the robot. Just as well, you were at the limit of your Ability just maintaining altitude. Your descent was aimed at the cockpit which you had opened remotely. Swinging yourself in once more, you closed the cockpit around you as you piloted it out the venue. You may have knocked a couple of things over but you didn’t pay much attention as you made a break for it. The weapons were offline so it wasn’t like you could level the competition. As you broke out on to the streets proper you took care to not crush vehicles as you went about trying to find a fence. You also received a call from Gage, which was kind of strange if you thought about it.

“Hey kid, I heard you had a new toy according to Toulour,” he greeted, “I’ll pay good money to take it off your hands.”

“How much are we talking here?” you asked.

The sensors suite also started picking up aerial contacts. Traffic as well was thinning.

“Several billion if you get it to me in near mint condition,” he answered.

“Oh right, Anti-Skill,” you realised.

“Uh-huh, I ain’t paying for a hunk of scrap,” he sent you some coordinates, “Meet me here, preferably without Anti-Skill but we can always figure something out if you don’t.”

The map display was showing an Anti-Skill roadblock, several of them in fact, between you and your destination. The various zoom levels showed that they were armed with only man-portable anti-tank weapons for now. You suspect they were going to start opening up with the helos and big guns the deeper you went.

You were going to go fast. Like, real fast. If you went fast, nothing could touch you. If the SR-71 Blackbird could do it, then so could you. The speedo reported speeds in excess of the law and safety operating procedure. Still you pushed onwards. Unfortunately, this giant metal robot wasn’t an SR-71. You think one of the missiles struck a hip joint and cleaved clean through. That would explain the tumble and crash as several tonnes of moving robot came to a stop. You must have hit your head hard if the world didn’t stop spinning. The interior was flashing red before finally becoming white as you were dragged out by a pair of strong hands.

What was worse than getting arrested by homeroom teacher? Getting arrested by three of them at once. There went your payday. The last thought that crossed your mind before you got tossed in the paddy wagon was maybe stealing the robot was honestly a bad idea.

Episode 55 End. We have time for interludes.

You are Suzushina Yuriko, Level 0 and you hate your life. Most of it had to with your appearance however. It couldn’t be helped that your hair was white and your skin was pale. Those two features of your appearance, and more, matched those of a certain first ranked Level 5. For the bird-brained thugs of Academy City that was more than reason enough for them. This has never happened before though. You had enjoyed a relatively peaceful time the City of Science. Like many other children before you, you had come here in hopes of having a special ability, a super power, something that you could only dream of. It was such a shame that you were found to be a Level 0 but you kept your chin up. You swore you’d never let it get you down. Life seemed to have a different opinion however.

The first time it happened you did know why, but you remember the when. It was after the night of August 21. You were accosted by thugs. It was kind of normal though. In your time many have tried to pick you up. Unfortunately, these guys didn’t take no for an answer. In fact, they weren’t even there to pick you up in the first place. It was after the first punch floored you that they started laughing. At least you didn’t suffer any indignities. It wasn’t the first time, and somehow, you knew it wouldn’t be the last. However, that changed when you met him. He was the source of all your pain, the source of all your suffering, the reason a normal, Level 0 high school girl was beaten half to death nearly every day was him. His name was Accelerator. He happened upon you in the middle of a beating. Then he took the thugs to town. It would have been like a fairy tale. The look on his face told you all you needed to know. It wasn’t the face of prince charming but a damned blackguard. They were shown no mercy and some part of you savoured their screaming. It didn’t change that the Accelerator was the cause of all your pain and torment though.

Touma can take care of her until we presumably get out at some point. They get along well enough in canon.
>>
>>33688301
That was why you hated him. You had told him so and he replied in kind. It made you loathe yourself even more when you followed him home. He wasn’t going to protect you, not directly anyway. You were going to hide in his shadow. He cast a big shadow. While you couldn’t and didn’t want to rely on him forever, the other option was less than pleasant. That was why you awoke in his bathroom and inside a ruined apartment that he claimed was his. If anything was still functioning, it would be the stove. Funnily enough there were still some ingredients left behind despite the broken refrigerator. Accelerator was still asleep on his ruined bed.

Oh what the hell, it wasn’t like you could finish it all yourself anyway. You weren’t doing it out of gratitude. He probably needed it anyway. It’s not like you were doing this out of the goodness of your heart. You couldn’t thrash thugs on an empty stomach. Well you couldn’t thrash thugs, period, but still. The thought of petty revenge did arise, such as spitting in his rice but then again that was a waste of good food. Instead you made him a smaller portion than yours. Not that he noticed or anything. You were finished by the time he woke up. All this elicited no more than a raised eyebrow. You turned away with a huff.

Hmph.

You were going to use him. This you knew, this you decided, this you swore. There wasn’t any need for pleasantries. Neither of you needed them and that was just fine. Some may construe such a relationship as unhealthy but they weren’t victims of violence just because they looked like someone. All you had to do was stay near him. Even with the two of you, thugs would go out of their way to stop him. He gave them once glance, then usually another at his hands before the blood started flowing. This repeated, once, twice, three times before people started noticing the blood on your clothes, and the bruises you tried to hide. Then they gave the two of you wide berth.

“So I guess even you can be useful huh?” he muttered

>>

“Same here,” you replied.

It wasn’t exactly a friendly tone but communicating was a start. He snorted and continued on his way. You needed to establish rapport. Slowly but surely you were going to worm your way in to a more permanent position. You hated that you needed his protection at all, why all this was necessary.

After that little exchange, the both of you went shopping. Well, it was more like he entered a convenience store and you just followed him in. It was kinda creepy to be honest but the clerk didn’t give either one of you trouble. Accelerator zeroed in on the canned coffee. It was his favourite, if the cans around his apartment were any indication. It probably wasn’t good for his health. No wonder he was all skin and bones. You almost swat it out of his hands. If such a thing were possible, you might as well have. Instead you hung around the actual produce section, hoping he’d take a hint. Then you remembered his fridge was broken. It wasn’t like you were going to cook him dinner were you? Not likely, given that he was loading up on some instant noodles.

As the sun set, you were getting tired of following him around. The thought of killing someone for a nice shower and a warm bed seemed tempting but it only served to remind you that you were powerless. It reminded you of why you were following the Accelerator around in the first place.

You bumped in to him as he stopped abruptly. Then he turned around.

“Why the fuck are you following me around?”

“What do you think?”

He seemed confused at being given a question as a reply.

“Idiot,” you added for good measure.

Honestly, you could do with a little less hostility. Then again you still hated him and he knew it. A change of tone probably wasn’t worth the effort. If he killed you then and there it probably would have solved all your problems. Granted you’d be dead but if that was the price then it seemed tempting. He raised a hand. You drew back. If he was going to kill you then it was probably better than being beaten to death by some random thug. At least this way you’d go through what you dared not inflict on yourself. He had other ideas though. How else could you explain what happened next?

Instead of lashing out at you, he grew silent, contemplative even. Then he turned around and kept walking. You had no choice but to keep following him then. Always following, always relying on him. You loved life once. Now you just followed around the biggest, baddest beast in Academy City just so you could live through the day unmolested. You hated your life.

Interlude End. Let us resume next week, because I try not to fritter on twitter, follow me.

We should start Academy Citys first farm.

We could sharecrop.

It's like you don't want to relax on the veranda and enjoy being a land owner.

Talk about killing a joke.
>>
>>33690420
What is a veranda, anyways? Is it like a patio?
>>
>>33690463
We gotta kill the joke to fertilize the field. That or let it shit up the place.

Now you're just beating a dead horse.

In other news, my Electronic playlist just looped, marking 9 hours and 55 minutes of non-stop questing. I'm off.

So how do we break up with the Lady Kudou?
Since I doubt she'd be up for what will eventually follow the jail break attempt.
>>
>>33690645
I feel like the jailbreak itself is kind of a shitty idea.

Spending some time in jail isn't the worst thing in the world, and AC will probably spring us eventually and put us on some team.

Prison Arc could be alot of fun actually.
>>
>>33690645
We don't break out of jail. That "Will you die trying?" bit of the blurb wasn't for show.

Especially not with our dice performance lately.
>>
>>33690645
Nah, she digs violence.
