16th day of prophecy – Little past midday.

Training. Drill. Discipline.

I’ve had my share of these in my adolescence; leading the Shieffer house demand military cadence and a knight regime, although at the time I thoroughly failed to realize talented mages had been extremely rare as head of the household I tried my best through pride to gain the respect of the enlisted soldiers resulting in what I can only describe as the ‘’worst and best experiences’’ of my life.
On one hand, the realm was at peace, my family was whole, and my lover was true and beautiful…

‘’Siggy, Siggy’’

As reminiscence was about to temporarily overtake common senses I felt my mother prod my shoulder before quickly wrapping her arm around my neck, forcefully pulling me in a hug which elicited a concert of admirative coos from the Yukionnas, as if the simple spectacle of an overbearing mother was akin to gaze onto the horizon atop the great snowy mounts of Gwynedd.

Well no, not like that; perhaps it’s a safety measure to reach far, very far in my head when I crossed eyes with the golden gaze of Mana; I can’t pretend to understand how mother and son are supposed to interact with one another but mine always kept this friendship pretence while simultaneously (stumbling) her way around motherhood, it’d seem her awakening as Mother Earth didn’t change an iota of her personality but I couldn’t shake a feeling that she’s playing a role…

‘’Are you listening Siggy?’’

‘’No’’

I answered honestly which earned me a quick reprimand from the twin tailed girl ‘’How can a nobleman not listen to his mother!?’’ she asked me with all the miffed jealousy that a self-righteous orphan could muster and while tempting to bully that would-be princess further restraint would be the watchword for the next few minutes as I crossed eyes with Lihua whose will appeared to falter ever so slightly as she looked away in what seemed to be a rise of bashfulness.

felt a sudden pain right in the middle of my forehead as if something pinched a point inside my skull it – came and went fast with an image that felt familiar that I couldn’t describe aside from snowy sceneries and a few silhouettes – which could either be mistakes as persons or trees yet the blue color of the Yukionna hair, be it the older sister of my deceased childhood friend or the very timid Malasintha, brought a rise of nostalgia that felt increasingly out of place, if not painfully sad. There was a certainty surrounding this fleeting imprint; warmth, peaceful warmth that’d set anyone’s heart at ease, and with the absence of my soul links I felt a longing, trying to grasps at the forgotten ephemeral picture of this fleeting dream that wouldn’t be coming back.

Treasures…?

The girls have grown emboldened, small talk perking up in the group while Mana let go of my shoulders to step sideway, her long hair falling like a magnificent twin colored silky blanket left me momentarily stumped; nothing short of an intoxicating homely atmosphere was starting to settle in the room now, something very, very similar to yesterday night with all the women I’ve fought, bled cried for instead now five young ices witches were discussing the future, namely the war itself as they, obviously, didn’t have the experience to quietly await for battle.

A mistake of the inexperienced is to incessantly stress over incoming action.

‘’Nothing to fear, nothing at all. Hey perhaps we ought to see how far we can stretch our host hospitality?’’

As if mine and my mother’s presence was an afterthought the short haired girl – Lovise – let out an embolden idea, the cats are probably out of patience after yesterday murder.

‘’You truly wish to give such a barbaric first impression? This is a nation of monsters and we will fight for them before long; you ought to show proper decorum. Even if you come from the uncivilised mountain’’

And that was the little princess; namely the twin tail haired short girl named Cateline styled Fendall whose density approached solid ice thank to that glaring weakness in that haughty argument.

‘’Oi, we come from the same place and you’ll be the first one shaking in your kimono!’’

‘’Say again? Every Onnas that came from Fendall were barbaric like you! When did you show true valor?’’

‘’I’m the ONLY Yukionna of the mountain you ever saw, punk! And I went outside the refuge ten years-’’

‘’Stop! Stop!’’

A three-way embrace of Trance and a sudden spell from an unexpected source nearly ended the argument right then and there; instead the proud girls locked themselves in a short lived tug-of-war as the little princess, the tomboy and Malasintha casted something akin to fog expending in a straight line out of their mouths only to smack together in dull thuds until broken by the matriarch who unceremoniously chopped into the middle with the palm of her hand.

‘’How much time did I say to stop casting at each other!? Dangerous! Risky! Hazardous! Precarious! Perilous! You’re all well past the age of corners grounding!’’

…Oh dear, these girls truly had peaceful lives.

‘’Come with me, there’s something I want to know’’

Cutting right into the middle of the shenanigans and Mana incoming amusement ended with the entire group giving me a surprised leer; along with some tint of fear, which nearly compelled me to speak in reassurance. My mother and I might be the only friendly faces they’ve met so far but that’s no reason for me to succumb to such puppy eyed distress…!

‘’Oh? You finally wish to warm up to your mother?’’

Of course she isn’t missing a beat, add a curled, cocky smile and some dramatic intake of breaths from the Yukionnas and I’d say that’s enough motivation to motivate my next action; namely grabbing her hand and pulling her out of the room with short lived remonstrance from the young girls thrown at my back, as if they’ve grown to like Mana better!

I’m not jealous.

Not that I was agreeing, even so Mana mood soon shifted as she noticed my seriousness; she crossed her arms while taking a seat on the desk while I slowly closed the door; we’ve simply taken the room at the front of our previous, larger one, this one looked just as cozy despite the absences of mattress, just big enough for a couple to feel comfortable in, with all the decorations and homely furniture of a rich mansion placed here and there, as opposed to being moved out or put on the walls for much needed space.

‘’You’ve been rather cryptic about those girls. Calling them ‘’treasures’’ is rather bold; I’ve already had a flash, they’ve been actors in the loops haven’t they?’’

Mana let out a simple, cryptic «Hmm» while looking away, golden eyes previously shining in vitality simmering ever so slightly as her face shadowed with some kind of interdict emotions clouding any hints as to whatever she could be thinking; there was something forlorn about her attitude, as if the previous jolly demeanor had been nothing more than a mask.

‘’Yes’’

She answered all the same, yet still stubbornly avoided my gaze; I preferred to avoid pressing this issue and instead soldiered on the painful heartaches of seeing this subdued sadness.

Answering a question with another question, dear goddess? There’s several way to answer this one; perhaps it’s a trap in of itself…

A careful pause in my answer rouses a full smile to settle on my mother lips while simultaneously making her close her eyes which inevitably made my heart squeeze; I sincerely doubt anyone in the world could truly stay neutral in front of a goddess, yet… I couldn’t rationalize the dread in my heart , perhaps Mana was simply waiting to plunge a knife.

‘’The better question would have been how important they are to the success of the war, or the peace after.’’

Mana promptly opened her eyes again and shifted her stance, standing up from her makeshift seat to face me fully without a hint of reserve and hesitation, it was nearly impossible to stand still against that impossibly powerful glare that quickly motivated my gaze to stray toward her magic filled, golden-purple colored hair instead.

‘’There are only three peoples that must survive. Tsukiyomi-no-Mikoto, Gil Rosario and Hieronymous Lex; everyone else is expendable to fulfill the deaths of the last two agents. Were you to have taken a slightly different path, you’d be holding the Yukionnas close to your heart instead, Siegfried.’’

I felt a potent rise of anger settle in my chest even before she finished her sentence; part of me felt like slapping her outright as images of the loops momentarily flashed into mind; Ame-no-Uzume, Athena, Sylphis, Hadraniel, Mylen even Gil and Lex – all of them died countless times – but now, ought to be the time to stop all of this unchangeable chain of event. The circumstances surrounding each event weren’t the same but ‘’fate’’ has this nasty habit of repeating itself…

‘’So you mean’’

Mother Earth interrupted me promptly, waving her hand delicately to still some of this rising outrage.

It’s only been mentioned in whisper by Tsukiyomi; the concept of ‘’Fate’’ has been introduced by that sickening man as a by-product of the curses targeting the heroes, a capricious little thing striking a few people without any tangent proofs, like a shadow in the night; perhaps the heroes merely propagate this thing like a disease.

‘’Just be blunt, mother I’m tired of running in circle’’

I almost felt like screaming, instead I settled with grunting out my rage while trying my best to settle down – the absences of soul links made it extremely, I could already feel a ball of stress in my guts and the unreasonable anger it inevitably brought to the surface.

‘’The Yukionnas will dies in the battle in two days whilst most of Zipangu agents – most of the girls you’ve come affectionate with – will perish in the land strike if you continue as you are right now.’’

I felt like protesting; Zipangu and Gwynedd have joined forces for this strike and the full might of the three knights orders of the North will strike forth on the remnant of the Church army whilst the reinforcement meet our navies in a full out strike, the army of the Faith simply cannot be that strong!

But then, they have Orion of Strife and Lysta of Justice; these angels alone will tip the balance, let alone the cronies following that metal-man.

‘’You have two days to prepare, Siegfried; you’ve already stayed from the plan I laid out by saving Amarantha so again I will lay out two course of actions; you and me can cheat Fate and the laws of magic to increase the talents of these iced treasures you’ve acquired today by calling upon the memories of the loops, or you can leave this to me and try and find Deruella agent on your own. Mebuchednazi won’t last a year as the last remaining seal of Machitehew; she’s already bed ridden so Zipangu is down one arch mage, she could still be easily killed when the army deploy.’’

Yes, it'll work by making the girls much, much more talented fast coupled with Siggy and Mother Earth ''Fate Breaking'' nature (since both have godly bloods in them, it's not something you can simply control.)

My mother certainly isn’t one to mince word; even if she’s essentially allowing me to condemn the lives of all the ices magicians to certain death I’d be too easy to simply thrusts all my hatred and rage on her small shoulders. Just like that evening in the crystal cavern I’ve been presented with a choice, while I’ve proven her wrong once before to simply assume all her experience and words is something I can disregard would be the height of foolishness.

I remembered the short flash concealing a dusk sky and several silhouettes – there was nothing to identify, only the forlorn nostalgia that it inevitably rouse by such remembrance – and now the faces of these girls I’ve encountered only a few hours ago were already burned in my mind. My mother has left it untold, yes; she still offered me the choice to condemn them to death and wouldn’t be blaming me for that either yet… could I truly forgive myself for such a deed? If the butcher truly moved away from his roots, I ought to take another step, even if there’s nobody to acknowledge my deeds and efforts.

I can’t simply send novices mages to the slaughter even if it’s be ‘’useful’’ in bringing down the church reinforcement.

‘’You’ve made your choice; the shine in your eyes is back’’

Again she’s one upping my attempts to announce my intention and I simply let out a laugh.

‘’The girls?’’

And I wordlessly nod there’s no need for more words or justification; Mother Earth is my parent, another person I can fully trust; in hindsight I’ve been blessed with a great many things indeed, all these comrades-in-arms I can not only trust with my life, but also take as confidants whenever I’d like.

A projection of magical energy erupted in the room of the ices witches and the pack immediately yelped in distress, all of them embracing Focus in synchronisation whilst me and my mother immediately sprang to action by opening the door to our room… which only invited the entire pack of girls (along with a shepherd clamoring for all of them to calm down) into our small room while magical fog and barriers of ices erected out of the ether, covering the entire doorway in fogyish, near-transparent block of waters that did a poor job as protection as they started to crack a few seconds after its magical birth when the magicians in question yelped in constant excuse – it was the blue haired Malasintha - and before I could even ask to be let through the entire thing broke into dust which soon evaporated into nothingness while Mana looked on with warm compassion.

I did spy something odd about this Malasintha – the arm she kept hidden – I could only catch a quick glance but I saw red and dark colors that shouldn’t belong on a perfectly organic, barely corrupted person.

Ah well, not that it matters; with the newly created dark swirly portal fully in view of the common bedroom I emboldened my first step by silently stepping out, thereby acquiring every single stares of the girls and making damn sure to look as gallant as possible (who doesn’t like impressing girls anyway?), simply walking across the small corridor, into the room and then pulling it close.

It didn’t take long for the first person to emerge; a small curly haired brunette nearly jumped out and colliding face to face with me but instead of stopping her stride she simply opening her arm and charged forth to hug my chest, which inevitably slamming my back on the wooden door.

‘’Urgh!’’

Not that this golem minded, her fingers would probably tear into the wood itself as she wrapped her arms around my spine and squeezed, I also notices her vestment and cloak covered in snow; where the hell did she go…?

Next came another friendly face, another tall woman sporting a magnificent cascade of green hair with two set of dark leathery wings sprouting from hips and head; she quickly sidestepped after registering the current room while waving a bashful hand in my direction as I tried my best to untangle out of the death hug. Is it me or does Emeth seem… emotional?

The last person wasn’t who I expected in the least; an unknown stepped out of the portal, another tall succubus by all account thank to the large horns sprouting out of head whose roots had to be somewhere in that big, slightly curled red hair; a tail also boldly peeked between her legs and I found myself slightly drawn by her shimmering red gaze, not that the expression worked both way for this unknown demon pointed at me whilst looking at Daiyu ‘’Who’s he?’’ she asked as if –I- were the intruder whilst the portal closed on itself soundlessly, I spotted another pair of legs hiding behind the succubus.

‘’Siegfried, meet Sieglinde. My daughter’’

As if on cue someone tried to open the door which only worked to compress my chest even more; they couldn’t get it due to the obstruction and now loud knocking interrupted whatever words Daiyu could have had.

…now that’s what I call an unexpected visit, those fluffs certainly wasted no time at all.

Damn my compulsion to binge once the backlog hits a certain point I guess. Then again, it is that tendency that grants me a library of references. Each story is a lesson, helping one to see what will and won't work in a given situation if analyzed seriously.

I seriously think it's an evolutionary advantage, the human compulsion to tell a story. Learning from the mistakes of people, both real and fictional, gives a man a head start. Those people learned the hard way, you don't have to if you listen.

I bite down on my lips and grunted as the door shoved on my back with more force; coupled with Emeth death grip hug, it’ll make any attempt at talking impossible so I simply prodded the girl hard head until she got the hint which was, to my continued good health, fast; she stepped away soundlessly, bringing her hands up near her fact to play with something around her finger…

Not that my sentence found an end as a cough interrupted my words coupled with a rude knocking.

‘’Well… I hope you’ve got a good explanation for this, making your friends worried isn’t very wise, Athena’’

Her answer came in a dreaded ‘’hehehe’’ that simply begged for more bullying but that wasn’t the time to indulge; instead I wisely stepped away and opened the door…

To reveal a rather unique trio; Tsukiyomi-no-Mikoto big bushy tails stuck out like sore thumbs, nearly obfuscating the rows of curious novices along with my mother taking refuge in the room facing us while Kyorn and Zechariah took place on the queen-mother flank with the Marauder hand still placed near the handle; this abrupt opening didn’t allow any kind of reasonable reactions and, inevitably, all eyes fell upon the new arrivals; I immediately noticed Sieglinde expression souring within seconds while Athena stepped sideway, patting the girl shoulder while Tsu… furrowed her brows and smiled.

I wonder what that means for her as well. If, in the event they do recover to the point he can feel them, will she feel them as well? For it seems that in a merge, two become one. If she is one with Siggy, than if the links are restored, would she not feel the effects as well?

Seiglinde is rather simple, really. Do right by her mother and you've got yourself a loyal ally (even if she got a bit of a foul mouth).

Emeth is easy to guess, she's a science-changing golem going even beyond Peniciling for medicine so it's easy to guess why any think tank wants to interact with her (instead of carving her open to see how she ticks, now that'd make every golem alchemist incredibly upset).

As for Ithel... well, I'll stay silent on that front.

Look, I get that Sieglinde acts the way she does because people look at her, see that she's a succubus, and don't give her a chance.
Well, if on top of being a succubus, she acts arrogant and dismissive to people she's just met, before they can even say anything about her or her mother, then there's really no chance for people to think about treating her nicely.

A person with a tragic background is tragic, but when they act like arrogant douchebags to everyone as soon as they meet them, any goodwill from the background is going to disappear.

On top of that, being told that you have to play nice and be polite to someone who treats you like shit even though you haven't even done anything to them yet, because they're more important to the success of a project and because they're the child of a higher-up, just breeds resentment.

Well Tsu and her did have a fight. It's all a big pile of misunderstandings and conflicting motives they could all work out if they all just had a chat, but Sieglinde seems to like to taunt and enrage her opponents in battle.

Normally a sound strategy, mad people fight like idiots and leave tons of openings to exploit. But she bit off a bit more than she could chew with the tenko. So the impression was sour from the very outset. First impressions were something like "Give me that stone whore" to which she responded "Ohh cute little doggie, want a biscuit? Have a biscuit!"

Hard to recover from that.

Duty and self-preservation run adverse one another much too often for my liking now that I’ve actually decided to put some worth in my own existence (in no small thank to the my poor, manhandled husband; not only is his thoroughly confused and overwhelmed face adorable but it’s enough to motivate me to do this again, somehow). I told that succubus to play ball somehow but I didn’t quite expect to show such aggressiveness right from the get go, coupled with Kyorn and that other man presence (Zechariah is it?) and maybe I can understand why the Lilim would feel attacked; the two monsters had embraced their Trance now, it was easily visible thank to the colored veins warping their fair skins; the other two males flanking her shared a stare of unease and that’s when I decided to step out from behind Sieglinde protective shadow whilst ignoring the commotion in the facing room. Mana Shieffer was a very recognizable woman; I can’t say the same for the strange posse peeking out to watch our spectacle.

‘’Now now, enough, enough let’s play ball alright?’’

I would have clapped my hands if I could; instead I gave Sieglinde shoulder a few pats which earned me a rather murderous glance whilst the tension in the room evidently grew to a paroxysm without the main actors straining a grimace; for a moment my eyes crossed with Siegfried’s and I gave him a smug smile, which must have been enough to keep him quiet as I could just -see- him try to salvage this mess.

No can do, dear husband.

I made sure to put an emphasis on a certain keyword while my hand moved behind Sieglinde neck and pinched it, eliciting a cute grunt out of the Lilim who, at the very least, abandoned Trance first and huffed in what I can only describe as ‘’imperious disdain’’. She slowly scooped down to grab her pair of thoroughly scared metal puppets whose electric energy crackled and sparked audibly, there simply wasn’t a better sound to accompany this newly formed rivalry between fluffed one and succubus.

‘’Ally?’’

Tsukiyomi repeated which visibly caused a twitch on Sieglinde face, thankfully her tamper was kept in check by her mother who gently cradled one of her oversized horn whilst putting an index on her lisps, stifling her daughter reproach in a low ‘’hmrph’’ that caused Tsukiyomi ears to twitch and again silence fell for a few seconds.

So, I had to do something; I felt a wave of nervousness crawl all the way into my tail but I simply faced Tsukiyomi with enough bravado that I truly started to believe my own lie, yes I definitely have what it take to stand up to her, yup!

My eyes strayed momentarily toward the open room barely peeking through the blond fur of Tsukiyomi tails and I sped the colored hair of my jovial mother in law whose wide, amused grin was almost enough to make me smile in some form of self-destructive arrogance; thankfully hard earned wisdom wouldn’t allow such foolishness and I stepped away from Sieglinde side proper whilst Emeth and Siegfried also separated slightly and the young man voice started to carry itself out of his mouth.

I interrupted him, giving him a sideway glance that (I hoped) was enough to force him silent which it, thankfully, did but he was none too happy about it as his jaw shut in a loud snap as the Queen-mother stepped forward, reclining her tails to hug her body as she stepped through the doorway, out of reach from her two bodyguards, to that they wouldn’t spring to action; a pair of demons is no laughing matter, doubly so when we’re talking about a Lilim and the Demon Lord; we’ve only been jockeying around the subject because everyone can overhear us, rumors of demonic allies are already abound in the army.

’’I ask that you allow a chance for them to prove themselves, queen-mother.’’

It’d have more weight to put my head on the platter; whilst I may be the benefactor of the Demon Lord I’ve also been had my share of chew out by Ame, Tsu, Sylphis and Siegfried about something just like that, it’d probably end up pissing off Tsu anyway since she certainly love people of talents and get very attached to her retinue too.

This humored her greatly as she let out a short chuckle, which soon transformed in a soft ominous ‘’Hahaha!’’ Which sent her tails swishing to and fro; the queen-mother leaned in next, having to tiptoe slightly to come to my level due to our close proximity.
‘’I’ll have you share Siegfried punishment after the war’’

‘’Fine! In honor of the precious retainer of queen Ame-no-Uzume I hereby claim my promise to you null, Sieglinde’’

It took my entire willpower to avoid sweating over my impending sentence and instead I prayed for that Lilim to avoid digging her grave; her long, thick tail snapped in the air as she adjusted the position of a metal doll sat upon her shoulder, pushing out a few renegades strand of red hair out of her face; her mouth curled in a smile and I felt myself stiffen.

‘’Good. Good. I’m sorry for laying hands upon you then, Youko –even if I lost our duel-. I’m here to clear out the misconceptions about my mother and I figure Zipangu is the perfect place to start, yes? This nation shouldn’t be victim of our family squabble’’

That was a very dangerous forward statement, Tsukiyomi didn’t seem to mind thankfully as she started walking back and, for some reason, gave Kyorn and Zechariah a beckoning wave; both males promptly stepped inside and the fluffed one closed the door behind them, embracing Trance and waving her hand in front of the wooden door where a set of golden runes sprouted out of the ether.

‘’I’ve no secret with Kyorn, Zechariah and Siegfried; how about you explain your journey in its entirety? My advisor opinions are important, don’t leave anything out now…’’

Basically, I'm seeing the man as a kind of "terminator". He does not know pity, remorse, or fear. But he is still vulnerable to the laws of physics and the like. Needs eyes to see, ears to hear, wings to fly, and arms/hands to use weapons. It won't be easy to knock him down a peg, but you still can if you land the proper hit.
