Transformers Quest 7: Nothin' But Misery

All around you a city-state burns.

Kilometers of cramped tunnels and dark inner construction sites had almost put the destruction out of your mind. The inferno blazing around is a visceral wake up call.

Fortunately the acid rain has stopped, though its chemical taint has colored the fire in greens and purples.

Standing atop a massive domed building flanked by two skeletal towers you find yourself high enough to be out of the fire and with a commanding view of the city cape. The once yellow brown slum city has been turned into a funeral pyre for those who had opted to stay out of the war.The destruction lies between you and your comrades, who are no doubt fighting against Cons and the inferno.

In the distance you see Decepticon gravskiffs being flown by three Con squads, driver, lookout, and a gunner on a rear mounted turret. There are a number of purple flyers zipping around, dropping explosives or firing there personal guns into buildings. You also see a pair drop ships, one a kilometer away to your right, another far off in front of you, also on the right. A freighter circles an area not to far to your left.

You see several paths along rooftops that have yet to catch fire, aswell as a tramline that runs partially along your course. While the ground level is most likely swamped with acid, if you get just below street level again you could travel through the maintenance tunnels now that you have your bearingss. The roofs offer a risk of collapsing into a burning building, the tramline is highly visible to the Cons, and theres no telling if the acid has begun to eat into the lower levels.

Your name is Kracken, you deal in retribution.

The city presents a hellish sight, dark clouds above lit by strangely colored chemical fires beneath. Getting through this will be hard.

Thinking you should check in with the others you press the comm button.

"Gyro, Copper." your growling voice almost matching the crackling static.

"Ah hear ya." comes Coppers' reply, as well as the double crack of his rifle.

"You guys busy?"

"Ah well that glowin' git is back. Got us pinned at a bridge."

"You gonna be alright?"

"Eh." another double crack. The sounds of other energy weapons can be heard faintly in the background.

"Copper..."

"Alright, we're doin' th'best we can. Managed to outfit the other NAILs with Decepticon weapon. Got some grenades. Some easy targets... lost an Autobot..."

"Doesn't sound good."

"Ah well what can y'do. Primus gives ya a spark, Mortilus takes it back. In between is up t'us."

You snarl.

One hand on the comm, other scratching your chin, you realize Copper is there best bet for handling it but he needs back up.

"Alright, you do what you can to get out of there. Get above ground. I'll catch up and hit 'em where they aren't looking."

You hear him scoff over the comm. "Like w'need help. The Cons'll be runnin' scared in no time." Another double crack of energy blasts.

"Stay safe Copper."

You let the comm fall silent then ponder your choices.

You need speed and thankfully the Decepticons have more than enough.

Drawing your pistol you take aim at the closest skiff and fire a few shots. It's too far away to hit but it gets their attention.

The skiff slides to a stop then swings around your way. As it flies closer you can hear the Cons jeer. You turn and run backwards, up and over the top of the dome so that your out of there line of fire.

The sound of the skiffs' engine can be heard getting closer, as well as the taunting Cons.

Laying prone on the dome you wait, like the predator your alt mode mimics. The sound of the skiffs' engines whine closer and reach a crescendo as it soars over the apex of the dome.

On the skiff the driver slows the machine down as the gunner swings his turret about and the lookout glances over the side.

With a -zzap- you appear in there midst, ready to strike.

You spin on a heal and kick the outlook square in the rear plate, sending him screaming out onto the dome where he rolls almost all the way down to the burning city below.

The driver glances quickly over his shoulder then focuses on the skiffs' controls. The skiff drops to reach their fallen comrade.

The gunner yells in anger and revs up the turret.

You have but moments to act!

You transform, tentacles and teeth unfurling into a monstrosity from the depth of nightmare.

Crawling back you get behind the driver. The turret opens fire and you duck low. The stream of energy blasts shoot right over your head and cut the driver nearly in two.

The gunner shouts in dismay and stops firing. You lift yourself up with a metallic snarl and get ready to strike.

Surging forward you pull yourself up over the turret, tentacles coiling around it and the edges of the skiff. The Con shouts and tries to strike at you but his blow is met with your gnashing teeth.

His arm comes away at the elbow and you quickly snatch him up in a second chomp. You turn towards the controls and snag the wheel with a pair of tentacles.

You finish swallowing his legs and feet as you turn the skiff to your destination. Unfortunately, you don't know exactly where your friends are.

Turning on the transceiver you listen to the Cons radio traffic as you head out.

You poise yourself at the controls with a pair of tentacles operating the turret, though you can only fire behind you and to the rear sides at this angle, and decide to wait and listen to the Cons' chatter.

Switching through channels all you hear are reports of sectors being cleared, buildings destroyed, an the occasional report of killed targets.

Listening to the glee the Decepticons have in the mindless destruction fills you with a quiet fury.

Eventually a single voice cuts through using a commanders' priority transmission.

"This is Sunstorm, I have located Autobot resistance in Sector 47-G, the main tram station. Not requesting back up or anything, just letting you all know where I am." an arrogant tenor voice rings out.

"Sunstorm please give us details." another voice, exasperated if a little monotone.

"No worries Acidstorm, these heathen will burn for the cause!" the first one practically sings.
"Sunstorm out!"

"Slagit." the second voice sighs. "Alright I want a small squad waiting in the wings in case he gets in over his head. Squadron H, your on it."

You hear a trio of confirmations then the chatter on the channel goes back to normal.

You now know where they are, and that they have company inbound.

"Take yer sweet time." an explosion causes static on the comm for a moment. "Ah haven't had this much fun in years!"

You huff slightly at his enthusiasm then turn the comm off. Shifting the skiff in gear you rocket forwards.

Soaring over the burning cityscape your skiff is lit greens, purples, and orange. With you in altmode at the controls it must look truly bizarre.

When you reach the tramline you angle the skiff on its path a zoom along.

The tramm proves to be an easy route, there is little to catch fire and the acid wouldn't have been able to damage its sturdy structure.

Soaring along you keep an audio receptor on the Cons chatter. It's mostly useless.

The voice asks a second time then "Skiff 8 get of that tramm line and get to your designated route or I'll have your ball bearing! Wait, what is that on skiff 8?"

You glare at the transceiver like it just took your last energon ration then transform.

Grasping the side of the controls you think for a moment.

"This is..."you growl as you think. "Sharktogonopus, one of Shockwaves'... agents." you growl once again. "I'm on important business, don't get in my way." you snarl into the the channel.

"I'm sorry what? We had no word of this. Something wrong with your transceiver?"

You snarl loudly.

Looking around you see the reason you were spotted, a lone flyer far above the battlefield. No doubt meant to keep an eye on things for Decepticon Command.

You turn back to the controls and accelerate. "Listen will ignore me or else answer to Shockwave." You growl at the mic and switch the comms off.

"This is a covert op." you say, steering the skiff through a tunnel through a small tower. "So if you don't want to be scrap you'll keep this to yourself."

"I... uh sir. Uh Yes Sir!"

The channel goes back to the regular chatter as you pass through another tower. Looking over your shoulder you see the flyer has started following you, but is keeping a safe distance.

You almost smile. Almost.

Up ahead you see the tramm station. Judging by the light show their having quite a party. A trio of flyers circle above it but ignore you as you zoom on in.

Pulling in to the station you realize that it is exceedingly bright in here. Like a small sun had risen inside. You swerve around the Tram, knocked sideways onto the station floor and look around.

The source of the light becomes apparent, if still confusing, as you spot a seeker hovering in mid air. He's lit up like the inferno outside, bright orange and covered in fire.

On the side of the station with the Tram you see a few faces you recognize as the NAILs, and spot Copper peering out as well.

Above you the seeker has made no apparent move to attack you, or even acted like he noticed you at all.

"BATH IN THE PURIFYING FLAME! ALLOW YOU SINS TO BE SCOURGED AWAY BY THE HOLY LIGHT OF PRIMUS! ONLY IN GLORIOUS COMBAT WILL YOUR SPARK BURN AS ONE WITH THE CREATOR!" he shouts at the top of his lungs.

Well this is something.

Hes on fire, and flying a good deal above you. The Tram is part molten slag and you doubt your comrades can stay in cover much longer.

You wonder where those reinforcements are.

As the skiff rockets towards him the Con continues his oratory.

"Cybertron goes DARK! And do you know why?"

He spins in mid air as the skiff approaches. He stares you in the optics with his, red on red.

"Your sparks have thrown themselves into the VOID!" He roars and glows brighter. Raising his arms his guns take aim and fire, a mass of bright orange energy seems to spout out from him and engulfs the skiff. Molten metal splashes across you.

As you appear behind him you grasp your gun with both hands and look down the sight. Time seems to slow down.

You fire three shots.

One sails above his head, the other slams into the back of his skull and knocks him forward. The third blasts his jet pack as the molten skiff slams into him head on.

You drop, and as you do Sunstorm and the skiff go sailing above and behind you.

Before they slam into the wall behind you the skiff explodes in a spray of slag. Sunstorm slowly glides to the ground, one hand on the back of his head, other held forward ready to fire. He is aflame with fire, radiation, and rage.

As he points at you and the iridescent aura around him surges forwards you lean one way, then launch yourself in another.

The blast misses you by fractions, enough to leave scorch marks across you heels.

You take aim once more as a column behind you slumps to the side, its base red hot and soft.

Your three shots sail out and score hits, raking him across the chest and arm. He staggers back only to be met with with a barrage of blasts from behind. Seems your friends and the NAILs finally joined in.

He is thrown to the ground in a smoking mess but to your amazement slowly pushes himself up.

That's when a fast blinking grenade bounces underneath him.

The explosion pitches Sunstorm up and drops him on to the Tramm, his body crashing right through its softened exterior and into an empty car.

A cheer goes up from the NAILs. They emerge from behind columns and from the other end of the Tramm.

Copper slides down the rail of the upper levels' stair case and you see Gyro limping slowly down the stairs.

"HAHA! Yes lad! That's th'way y'make an entrance." Copper claps you on the shoulder in joy. He has scorch marks all over and is dark with soot. His right pauldron is deformed.

You nod at him.

"What sort of entrance was that? I can't fly for slag, used up more energon than I should have, and now have an aching back..." you sigh and unclip the medkit from your lower back.

You toss it to Gyro as she reaches the ground. Catching it she falls back and lands sitting on the stairs. You see that her leg from knee to hip is a fused metal wreck.

"What's the situation." you ask, turning towards the Tramm. "Where are the Autobots?"

"Well.. the big green fella got slagged down in the tunnels, the red one went off after the Cons what did it and little blue fella went after him. First loss while in command, s'understandable but amateur."

You scoff and transform, you tentacles wrap around the broken wreck of the Tramms' side and begin prying it open.

"After that we had word from those Wrecker yahoos but they never showed up. The not so bright bulb you're diggin' outa there did. He's been followin' us since the market. "'parrently y'ate his buddy."

You rumble as you lift his body out of the car and stuff him into your maw. He burns going down.

You clamber out and look around. The NAILs have gathered around Copper and Gyro walks slowly towards the group. Her thigh has been stripped of paint but is back to its former streamlined state.

"So what do we do now?' she asks.

>"We go find those idiot Autobots."
>"Head to ground level, maybe we can find a way around the fires."

"Alright. Gyro where is the Autobots' dropship. We'll get there on our own." you ask as you emerge from the Tramm.

"Sector 15-b."

That was quite a walk.

"Alright, we need transport. No way we'll make it that far on foot. I say we jack another skiff."

"Ho! Easier said then done." Copper says. He shift the rifle on his shoulder and puts his other fist on his hip.

"Not really. There kind of dumb."

Just then there is a shout from the NAILs. One of them is pointing towards the entrance you came in through and you see a pair of flyers hovering there.

You shout as well. The flyers turn to leave but one is struck by to well placed rifle shots and nosedives out of sight. The second makes it out of range and is met by two others, the three of them zooming away to raise the alarm no doubt.

"Slag." you growl.
