LAST EPISODE: You disciplined a child.
- - -
"Money we found from the couch and the change jar." Star says as she dumps a pile of coins onto the table.

"And how much is this?" Sato asks.

Star shrugs. "If it's more than 1000 yen I'll be surprised."

Akira writes down the number.

"Will we have enough to cover the Containment Grid electrical fees?" Akira asks.

"Central's always willing to cover that." Star says. "They do expect us to pay them back though, of course."

"Of course." Akira sighs as he looks at the small pile of gold coins on the table. "I don't like giving those away. We need that if we ever want to find and properly bust Fury."

"You really can't let that go, can you?" Star says.

"She caused someone to jam scissors into their head, and has a body count of who knows how many." Akira snaps. "She trapped us all in giant soap bubbles, and we just let her go."

"We got her physical manifested form." Sato says. "She won't be able to get another one for decades."

"So what? It sets a bad precedent. We're supposed to be the Ghostbusters." Akira says.

You enter the conversation by putting down all the wrinkled and faded bills that you could get your hands on. Most of it is from the Love Hotel job, the Harajuku job, all the way back to the karaoke job that got you started in this whole mess.

"Maybe we could just keep one coin?" You ask.

Akira shook his head. "Thought about that. Look." He takes out his PKE meter and holds one coin up to it. No reaction. Two coins. No reaction. It takes two-thirds of the coins before the PKE meter actually picks up a reaction.

"We do that, we're all but broke." Star says. "And I'd rather have Fury be out there, than face impending yakuza reprisal in the form of upset Oni.

Akira grumbles and shrugs. "We can deal with being poor for a bit. Just take some quick jobs and do some birthday parties. We'll be back in no time."
>>
>>33632523
> Akira, we'll get Fury later. Right now, she's no threat to anyone. Let's pay the Oni, and move on.
> Akira's right, we need to at least be able to keep tabs on her. She's a threat, and an insult to this franchise. We'll keep the gold, and deal with the repercussions.
> Other
>>
Bump, just saw this.
>>
>>33632530
>Other
"Akira, are there actually birthday parties that want us? Have we really been taking jobs that can get us back in the black? What about the repairs for YOMI?"
Saying we can take a few quick jobs and do some parties is nice, but it means jack shit if those jobs and parties aren't there or we can't get to them.
>>
>>33632929
There are the Youkai we plan to assist, and that could be a source of funding. Also, the old man said to hold off on the hunt for Fury, for now, but he promised to inform us if she goes on rampage again. That's where we'll nab her.

>>33632530
> Other
"We have to bust here, it's just unethical to leave her out there where she'll harm anyone else, and goes against us as Ghostbusters.

But Old Man says he needs her out there, for now, and we need allies. He promised to keep tabs on her for us and will tell us as soon as she tries to hurt anyone.

Make no mistake, she needs to go down, but we've got other matters as well."

I would still suggest keeping at least a few coins. We have do some PKE amplification technology we can apply to them if we ever need too.
>>
>>33633079
Fix those typo's and word it a bit better, but this sounds right.
>>
>>33633079
You know that Akira doesn't care about Enki, and would try to bust him if he thought he could get away with it, right?
To Akira, the only good ghost is a busted ghost, and all youkai need to die.
He's prejudiced against the supernatural.
>>
>>33633198
Well, then we'll get him an Atomic Destabilizer so we'll be able to turn the Youkai into ghosts and bust them without killing them.

And even if he is predjudiced, he isn't out for all Youkai. We still have the contract with Rini, and he knew to sit quiet when they had their party at the factory.
>>
>>33633079
The money from that job was supposed
to go towards better equipment and for Kaede. If we don't give up the gold then it will be used just for operating costs.

The point is to make Akira admit that our revenue is not as fast or as great as he is making it out to be.
>>
>>33633229
You seem to forget how much he hated the idea of letting the rabbits stay here in the first place.
>>
>>33633198
Also other Ghostbusters have befriended the gods before, such as aiding Marduke escape Tiamat by blowing him up (hopefully he still remembers that) as well as the daughter of Gozer before she lost her godhood.

>>33633271
We don't have to make him admit anything. We just have to get him to agree.

If we were to keep the gold, which I don't suggest we do, we keep it long enough to get a permanent PKE signature reading and bust fury, then sell it off to aid Kaede and our needs.
>>
>>33633324
Hated, but accepted. I don't care to change how he feels, I only care that he stay's in line.
>>
>>33633335
Other Ghostbusters have befriended gods, Akira doesn't want to.
>>
>>33633324
Let's not forget, it's Ghostbuster policy as stated by Egon to "Leave the Quiet Ones alone."

If it's evident a paranormal entity isn't harming anyone, there is no need to bust them. Slimer and Yurei fall under such parameters.
>>
>>33632530
Get Fury later, it'll sort itself out.
>>
>>33633394
And he can stay unwanting too for all I care, as long as he stays in line and doesn't act up again.
>>
>>33633401
Again, that's Ghostbuster policy, not how Akira feels about things.
If he could, he'd bust every ghost and kill every youkai, regardless of how peaceful they were.
>>
>>33633452
But he can't, and by the gods we sure as hell won't let him. That'd be a waste of efforts which could be used to hunt actual harmful ghosts.
>>
>>33633419
>as long as he stays in line and doesn't act up again
It's only a question of when, not if, he kills again.
>>
So, I'm seeing two votes to give up the gold, and one vote to keep it.

Do I need to have another vote, or are we okay with this?
>>
>>33633532
I'm okay with giving up the gold. I just want Akira to tell us if he's been holding out on us in terms of jobs coming our way, if he's so confident we can make all that money back.
>>
>>33633517
Which is where we bring the hammer down, if it's evident of violation of company policy. Even as ghostsbusters, we have rules and ways to be kicked out.

Plus, he won't be able to kill anyone again so long as we give him the Destabilizer. Busting Youkai or anything else and trapping them should be as satisfying and more practical than killing them.

>>33633532
I only suggested a few coin(s), give the Oni the most of it to pay em off. We can use an amplifier to increase the PKE signature of a single coin if we need it.
>>
>>33633532
Fury isn't exactly subtle.

When she breaks her promise, it won't be hard to deal with her.

And it makes sure Akira won't be able to.meddle with Enki's plans.
>>
>>33633532
Give the Oni the gold, but I think we could spare a single coin since we have the tech to increase PKE.
>>
>>33633574
An atomic destabilizer and a PK amplifier aren't part of our standard gear. Are you sure we can afford them and still get the upgrades we need?
Which Mark Proton Packs and Traps are we using?
>>
>>33633643
Ghostmaster said from thread 1 we should have most of the equipment combined somehow.

It's part of the standard gear for the Original ghostbusters at least, and if we ourselves don't have it it's a matter of acquiring the blueprints and constructing one. They are highly useful tools, so they should have the plans for them.

Similarly we had to get the plans for the Super Slamer and the Proton-Canon to addon to the Yomi-1, which would be more expensive.
>>
>>33633643
The PK amplifier would also be a base piece of equipment, not something we lug around. Just like the Spectronalizer for detecting PKE in images to locate ghosts (which backfired a bit in that it let Vigo nearly burn the first guys to death).
>>
>>33633532
"We could keep one coin, and then use some tech we have to increase the PKE." You say. "But, come on Akira. You need to calm down, and we need to pay them off."

"Okay, first..." Akira holds up a finger. "I'm starting to get really sick of you treating me like I'm some psychotic militant who's idea of a good time is to find something supernatural and set fire to it, or whatever! I don't like them, sure, but I'm not secretly imagining how to lure the rabbits into a wood chipper, or have Yurei trapped! It's a little insulting, and I'd appreciate if you stop."

"Well sometimes it gets a little hard to tell, with your actions." You say.

"Oh, forgive me for keeping my feelings to myself! We can't all be honest, stubborn, self-righteous assholes all the time like SOME people!" Akira snaps. He takes a breath. "And second, where are we going to get the money to MAKE this PKE amplifier, or the Destabilizer, or any of the other crap that you keep DEMANDING that we make?"

"That's not..."

"Do you even DO the books? Have you so much as looked at our budget even ONCE?" Akira snaps. "No, you let Star and Sato handle it, and just make demands."

"That's not fair." You say.

"No, it's the truth. It rarely is." Akira snaps. He sighs and rolls his eyes. "Fine, fine. Give the Oni all the gold. Lets trust the weird old guy who claims to be a God, who admitted that he deliberately messed with us in the past. Sure. I'm going to go buy some milk, because unlike SOME people, I noticed that we were out." He grabs a few bills and storms out.

There's a pause.

"It's...it's okay," Star says. "Akira's always like that. He'll blow hot and cold, as long as he's talking to you, things are fine. He'll calm down when he gets back and we have a job."

"As the ancients say, as long as the wind blows, the ship still moves. Or something like that." Sato says.

We just have to take risks sometimes. We gotta pay these Oni now before trouble starts and we gotta trust our contacts.
>>
>>33633902
> He's an asshole.
He HAS killed youkai trying to surrender.
And he's the one who said that we could make the money back by doing some quick jobs and some birthday parties.
He's the one who said we could do it, and when called on it, he said that we don't have the income to support the alternatives that he doesn't like.

"He's...not wrong." You say.

"So..." Sato says. "Are you going to apologize to him when he gets back?"

You make a non-comittive grunt in response. Right or not, Akira's still being a bit of an ass...you think.

Anyway, not five minutes later there's a knock on the door.

Sato looks up at you. Akira has a key. (And is probably taking a long cool down walk so that he doesn't punch you when he gets back.)

Star calmly goes to open the door. The two Oni are there.

"Good afternoon." Red Tie says. "We are here to collect what is owed to us."

"Of course." Star says. "We have it over here. Please come in."

The Oni have to duck in order to fit their large frames through your front door. They still do not have their clubs with them.

Mix between these two. Be friendly, but respectful.

Just follow proper Japanese Business etiquette, and if it permits, be on the hospitable side.

Be polite, offer them tea and seats.
Do we have the proper letter of apology written up? Do we have a proper container to give them the money in?
Follow proper business etiquette; congenial, professional, but not overwhelmingly friendly.
>>
>>33634235
> Greet them warmly, offer them a drink, and be a congenial host. This isn't a hostile meeting, and it never hurts to be welcoming.
Our character is on the line. And being friendly, we can ask the ONI about the kami. Like where did they go, and such.
>>
>>33634293
You give the pair a formal bow. "Do you two wish a drink, or anything else?"

"No." Red Tie says as he sits down at the table and gathers up the pile of gold, money, and change.

"I'll have a glass of water." Blue Tie says.

You go get him a glass of water, which is taken with a polite nod.

Red Tie is very interested in the gold. He takes out a loupe and inspects each and every coin. He writes down numbers on a small notepad that he had with him.

He finishes with the gold and then moves onto the bills, calmly checking each and every one, putting them into neat piles, and writing down the numbers.

Akira comes back in the middle of this, with the milk.

He gives the Oni a brief look, and then heads straight to the kitchen to put the milk away.

Red Tie then moves onto the change, slowly checking each coin with his loupe, sorting them, and writing down the totals.

After a long period of quiet, Red Tie finishes counting the money. He looks at his partner, who has finished his drink, and nods.

Blue Tie then picks up a briefcase he was carrying, and opens it and takes out a large envelope. Red Tie then puts the gold, the change, and nearly all of the bills into the envelope.

"Our business is concluded." Blue Tie says. "Thank you for settling your debts in a proper and timely manner." He puts a business card on the table. "If you are in need of our services in the future, please call. We appreciate professionalism."

They leave.

Star goes to check the money on the table. "Behold, Ghostbusters Japan's glorious treasury...10,000 yen." She says with a sigh.

"Don't we have money in the bank?" Sato asks.

"Yeah, but that's containment grid fees, lease, taxes, and all the stuff that we need to pay to keep this place just running month-to-month." She sighs.

"Well..." Akira says with a sigh. "At least we're not broke. I'll check Sana's date planner, maybe there's a job coming up we can do."

"Where is Sana, anyway?" You ask.

"At an audition, where else?" Sato says.

"I wish I could have talked to them about some things." You say.

"I don't think they were here for anything other than business." Star says.

"Well, they left their card." Akira says. "If you'd like, I'm sure they'd be happy to chat with you over the phone." He says, with only a little sarcastic venom.

>>
>>33634962
> Keep the Card
And what the fuck, Akira? You call us a self-righteous asshole when we call you out, and you were saying we could keep the gold and just make up the difference by doing some quick jobs.
Turns out that even with using the gold, we only had $100 left in liquid cash, and we have no jobs lined up.

He just can't handle having his racism exposed.
>>
>>33635169
He needs to dick that ghost girl and do it soon.
>>
So, do we treat Akira like a closet xenophobe because he acts like one, or does he act like one because we treat him like one?
>>
>>33635060
You roll your eyes and don't rise to Akira's bait. You take the card and carefully put it away in the file cabinet that you keep by Sana's desk.

"Okay," Akira says with a sigh. "Now that the threat of horrible mob reprisal is over, what are we going to do for the rest of the day? Because the next appointment we have isn't for tomorrow."

"What is it?" You ask.

"A store wants us to check out their vending machines." Akira says. "Sana has it listed under low priority, and they couldn't pay for the 'expedited service' fee...and she had planned us all still being in the hospital from the apartment building job. So...nothing on the books for today."

"We could go to a temple, or a shrine and see if we can't figure out anything about this 'Missing Kami' thing." Sato suggests. "And I mean a big one, in the city. Not Sachiko's...don't think many Kami noticed it even when they were here, anyway."

"We could call up that friend of Rini's, and see if that heist job she wants us to do is still open." Star says.

"Don't call it that." You say.

"It's what it is!" Star says.

"Nothing saying we can't be nice and show up at tomorrow's job today, quick money." Akira says.

These are all good ideas. Another part of your mind also says that a good idea would be to settle things with Akira here and now. Probably in the back yard, where Musashi, Akira's horse, is grazing. He's patched up enough for a little...'negotiation.' Of course, maybe that's just your temper acting up...if you wanted to, you could also just as easily go see how Kaede's doing and try and reach out to the rest of your family. Even though you have even MORE stubborn anger towards them than you do Akira.

Keep the card, it's only polite.

Meanwhile, consult the team as to whether we should only have one of us stay here at all times, or if we should double that.

Considering what happened last night, and that we have all three aspects of Oiwa in our custody, we should prepare for future attacks.
>>

It should be cheaper comparitively than either of the Yomi-1 upgrades.

Also were the Original Ghostbusters really just good businessmen, they seemed able to afford all the materials they needed for their various equipment quite easliy.

Hell, they had enough money to afford their own Gyrocopter, the Ecto-2.

In theory we could salvage some various parts from a proton pack in it's construction to help lower the costs.
>>
>>33635902
>Also were the Original Ghostbusters really just good businessmen
No, we just do too much charity work. You'd think during the night of the Bloody moons we'd be swimming in dosh from more jobs than we could handle too.
>>
>>33635902
>they seemed able to afford all the materials they needed for their various equipment quite easliy.
That was completely dependent on the season, and the plot.
There was one episode where they were rushing around trying bust as many ghosts as they could in order to buy the parts needed for a device to save Egon, and they barely were able to come up with the money.
>>
>>33635446

Well are sorta messing with the natural order and keeping a ghost on earth from passing to the afterlife. Even if she and everyone else wants her to stay and not vanish to the next world. . .

But I don't want to see her go either.
>>
>>33635962
>more jobs than we could handle too.
That's the weird thing; there doesn't seem to be a spike in the number of cases, only in the severity.
Or they're jobs where there's no client to pay us, like that case against the Gentlemen's Club and the fights against Kanako and Mitsuko.

On top of that, remember that we have to compete against all of the other P-COC-certified and licensed exorcists. In a nation like Japan where the Shinto shamans and priests have a bit of government backing, we also have to take them into account as competition as well.
And they probably have less collateral damage since they're not using proton streams.

Just trawled the archives. Really, no-one picked up on The Audition? TG, you have a movie to watch.

Anyways, I'm all for the heist. We have a vehicle to repair, and we need the cash for more than saving up. Money talks no matter what, and we can call in those Oni not just for muscle, but for information since they also work with the other side - who they don't seem too fond of, since they helped us out with the kitsune fight.

Finally, NO SAVING THE KITSUNE. THEY ARE NOT FLUFFY-TAILS, THEY ARE MURDEROUS PSYCHOS. What the fuck is wrong with you guys. Double-tap those bitches, they will never be good news. They will never see reason, or the light. Pic related.

You dig around in Sana's files to see if you have the contact information that Rini gave you on the Rokuro Kubi...Ikki, that's what her name was.

"Got it." You say. "Our long-necked friend is currently staying at Kanda Shrine, the guest of Lord Masakado."

"Posh." Star says.

"The shrine probably has a phone we can call," Akira says.

"Or we could go there." Sato says. "Three kami are supposed to be there. We could get some information."

"Eh," Star says. "I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but that's a really popular shrine and people and yokai might not like Ghostbusters being there. Especially if it's being used as a shelter. We go out there, we'll may have to deal with P-COC, PAGAN, or some yokai."

"True, having to explain that were there to help a yokai steal things, might not be the best thing." Akira says. "Lying about that stuff always bites you in the ass too."

> Call the shrine, see if can reach her. The sooner we get this job started, the sooner it's completed, and the sooner we have money. Plus it'll avoid any inconvenient questions later.

They respect professionalism. Depending on how we handled it, they would have still respected us. It's not like they don't know that the fox bitches be crazy.

Oh well, I'm not terribly upset about it really. I feel it was more of a lucky break that it allowed them to fulfill their obligations to her, instead of us fighting them again later on to fulfill their obligation. Which we still might, BTW, since they're mercenaries. I'd just like to remind people that just because some ghosts and yokai can be allied with, some can't.

The Oni were probably more satisfied that we offered to replace their gun, anyways. Warriors know the cost of the battlefield.

Yep, it never hurts to be polite. Courtesy is what lubicrates the social machine. Also, we will be in a better bargaining position if we're not on her home territory. She might even treat us to dinner, with meat!

>>
>>33636997
You take out your phone and call up the shrine.

You get a groundskeeper. You ask if he knows Ikki. Apparently he does, she's a very well known, and VERY generous, patron of the shrine. It's not uncommon that she gets calls, from his behavior. Although he does lay it on a little thick, making sure that you let her know how HAPPY he is to have her as such a frequent guest.

You fight back the urge to try and point out the oddity as to why a woman of that social standing and wealth would spend so much time at a shrine.

"Hello, darling. You've reached Ikki, Keeper of the 26 Graceful Forms. How may I help you?" She replies.

"Miss Ikki, hello. This is Daisuke, from the Ghostbusters." You say.

"Oh, HEL-lo!" She says. "My, my, my. Finally getting around to me, are you?" She chuckles. "I SHOULD be mad, but I've HEARD about what you've been doing! The Avatars of..." She clears her throat. "The Avatars are sealed, rumors of a new yokai sanctuary, and all of it based around a group of well-known mercenaries." She sighs. "I'm still perfectly happy with my protection arrangements, but now I'm truly envious of Rini and her girls. She always did know how to get in on the ground floor of the best things. Anyway, to what do I owe this call?"

"About that job you asked us about." You say. "The relocation of the tsukumo-gami?"

"Actually," She says with a sigh. "I got that taken care of already."

"What?" You ask.

"Well, you had other things to do. What was I supposed to do? Wait?" She sighs. "I hired some other people to do it for me. They did a...passable job." She sighs. "Makes me wish I DID wait for you."

"Ah, well...umm..." You flounder for a bit. This was NOT an expected turn of events.

"But..." Ikki says. "If you're interested in work. I DO have something else. It's a little different than what I had in mind, but I think you might be interested."

"What is it?" You ask. "Just in general."

It was the risk that we took for ignoring it for so long.

>>33637763
Indeed. But at least we can take comfort knowing we did choose the right thing, even if the consequences were high (though justified).

"I have a friend that's been out in the cold during these nights. I want you to locate her and give her the same deal you gave Rini, make sure that she's okay." She says. "I'll cover her costs."

"Is that all?" You ask.

"Well, my dear Umi..." She lowers her voice. "She's homeless and...a little...ummm...untidy. You'll see when you meet her. She's a dear little friend of mine. I almost consider her to be like my own little sister."

The thought of 'then why don't you offer her sanctuary at your place?' passes through your mind, but not your mouth.

"Okay." You say. "Would you like to meet somewhere else, so that we could talk about her?"

"Oh, I am SO sorry darling, but I have this soiree later today, and then I promised a friend of mine to go out for drinks. I'm too busy for something like business." She says. "Anyway, whatever the costs, just bill me at...do you have a pen and paper?"

You take down the information you need to send Ikki your 'Full Platinum Deluxe Package. Season Deal, WITH Extra Warranty AND Optional Glazing.' (You'll probably add in a few more terms later as the bill goes up.)

"You'll find Umi...living...at the Ginza Street Train station." Ikki says. "Tell her I sent you, and do be kind to the poor little thing, and let her know that her big sister Ikki is always looking out for her!"

"Alright." You say.

"I have to go, do you have any more questions for me?" She asks.

> Ikki's got the patience to answer one question before she takes off.

> What exactly is Umi? Is she a Yokai, a ghost, or what?

And only the gods can say if they were ever truly right.

Because who knows, perhaps in the scheme of eternity, they were. By their actions, some worse or untold calamity was avoided.

Daisuke certainly knew the consequences and chose them knowing he was doing the right thing.

>>33637881
>Does Umi need any special care or help.

We don't just want her friend to be safe we want her to be comfortable as well. Also, we don't want to accidentally set her off if she's dangerous. Let's avoid any faux-pas that might result in needing to roll. Besides, we can talk to Umi about what she is directly, bonding styles. Maybe bring Yumi with us to have a friendly face and show her that we can get along with the supernatural types.

We can pump other people for info about the Kami's, and Ikki might not want to talk about something that could be potentially embarrassing for her.

The problem is that it assumes that the speaker is right, and doesn't take into account the possibility that they could be wrong. At all.

"Does Umi need any special care or help?" You ask.

"Oh. Huh...umm...my my, what a question." Ikki says. "I...honestly don't know. Oh, that makes me SUCH a poor sister, doesn't it? Ah well. Talk to Umi, make sure she gets whatever she needs, and I'll cover for it. Lovely! Ciao!"

Click.

You look at the others. "Are ALL yokai self-centered narcissists?"

Akira throws up his hands in frustration and defeat and walks away muttering things about 'last horses crossing finish lines.'

"What's the job, are we going to need bolt cutters?" Sato asks, a bit TOO eager to commit a felony.

You explain to everyone the change of jobs.

Akira nods. "Okay. I'm in."

You look at him. He nods. "Look, if she's hostile, we put her in a trap. If she's not, we let her hang around. The zone's turning into what it's turning into. I can't stop that, but we can at least be half-way decent bouncers. Let's go."

You all go to the train station, in full gear, and head towards Ginza Station.

"If we do end up saving Japan." Sato says as you all get off. "I want to eat there...for free." He gestures up the stairs at a small restaurant.

"Agreed." Star says.

Akira looks at you with a raised eyebrow of confusion.

"You two don't...oh you are disgraces to your country." Star says.

"What?" Akira asks.

"Never mind." Sato says, as everyone gets out their PKE meters. "As the ancients say 'One should never delay in plucking a ripe strawberry bush, if it is in a field of nettles.' Or something like that."

"Umi?" You call out on the platform. "Is there an Umi here? We're friends of Ikki!"

You get more than a few strange looks, but no one replies back to you. Also, the PKE meters aren't picking up anything beyond typical levels.

"Split up? Team up? Or stay as a whole?" Akira asks.

It's a pretty big underground train station. Multiple platforms, a bunch of restrooms, and a below ground store-front line up with a convenience store, a fast food chain, and others.

You all split up. "Why'd you want me with you?" Star asks.

"Because if I check the women's bathroom alone, or with another guy. We'll both end up escorted out of here by the police." You say.

"True." She walks up to the bathroom and knocks on the door and opens it. "Sanitation." She says loudly.

A few women leave, giving you two the courtesy of not making eye contact. Star has you wait in front of the door, holding it open watching her, as she checks the entire place with the PKE meter.

"Well, something WAS here." Star says. "Baseline reading's jumped a bit. Also, little traces of black slime here and there at the drains. Nothing abnormal."

"We should talk to the city about getting a contract to cleanse these places." You say.

"We'd have to get in line behind all the other exorcists that want to as well." She sighs. "Which means we have to deal with P-COC."

You stick out your tongue in distaste.

You almost bite off your tongue when Star hits you.

Not as in the concept of Star punching you, but more in the concept of Star being lifted off the ground, and forcibly flung at you at a very tremendous force.

You both land on the floor, sprawled out and very bruised.

You also hear the sounds of glass breaking and when you pick yourself up, you see that down the hall in front of the remains of a manga storefront window is Sato and Akira. They look okay through, thankfully they hit the windows packs first, so they weren't cut up.

You hear the sound of laughter and running feet.

You don't see anyone, in that direction, but you can see the tell-tale signs of invisible feet impacting on the ground.

"Son of a..." Star pulls herself up off of you. "Sorry." She says.

"It's okay." You say. "That way! Goggles on!" You shout to the others as you put on your spectra-goggles.

You see a couple of Class 4 Entities run down the platform and around a corner. Those are just the stragglers of the group. There must be a whole gang of them.

They aren't human in appearance. They're made up of trash, and black slime, discarded manga books and food wrappers make up their clothing. They aren't any taller than elementary school kids.

In fact...

"We beat the Ghostbusters! We beat the Ghostbusters!" One of them sings in a sing song voice.

You and the other three chase after them.

Akira looks at you as you follow the gang of hoodlums through the labyrinthian corridors that is Ginza St. Station.

"Daisuke." Akira says. "I am considering doing something rather hostile and violent to these brats...is that okay with you?"

>>33640182
There really isn't a way to destroy souls.

I think we should use stasis stream with a capture stream to capture and interrogate.
>>
>>33640233
I heard mention that you could send a soul to oblivion. I guess I don't know much about the afterlife, but what's the worst we could do to a ghost?

Actually, we really need to be careful with using our proton packs here; we're not here on an officially sanctioned contract.
One of us needs to call this in to P-COC just so we cover ourselves from liability and getting sued by JR.
>>
>>33640269
That was a figure of speech. Really we can vaporize a ghost, destroy its ever atom, but your soul will still end up in the afterlife (likely the one you believed in). A ghost is just a manifestation of the soul just as the body is. We've seen ghosts and souls (the bright lights) appear and then vanish into nothing when their souls pass on.

Technically the "worst" thing I think we could do is send an athiest to their afterlife, but I imagine they don't normally make ghosts for obvious reasons.
>>
>>33640382
Shit we didn't do that ahead of time?

Akira nods. "Okay. That's a good plan."

The Class 3s lead you up to the train platform and then jump down onto the tracks and run down the tunnel.

"Maintenance track." Sato points out a long strip of ground that's between two of the tracks.

Akira rolls his eyes and pulls a small lever on a support pole as you run by. "They DO have safety measures, you know."

"Aren't we going to be fined horribly for that?" Star says as you run down the tracks. "Fines we can't afford."

"I think we can send the bill to P-COC. Operational costs that ensure public safety. We're pursuing openly dangerous ghosts and taking known security cautions." Sato says.

"Let your ability to be able to actually read those mind-numbing handbooks be never short sold!" You say with a smile.

"There!" Akira says, pointing down a side service tunnel.

You all run off the tracks and head towards the service tunnel. It's nothing special, just a cramped long passageway with cables overhead and pipes below the walkway.

"Wait wait wait!" Star says quietly. She stops at the start of the service tunnel. "CRAP!" She yells loudly. "I LOST SIGHT OF THEM!"

Akira gets it. "I THINK I SEE THEM! THEY'RE FURTHER DOWN THE TRACK!"

You all run forward a bit, and then quietly walk back to the tunnel.

"Think that worked?" Sato asks you quietly.

You shrug.

The tunnel is pretty small. It's wide enough for two people to stand side by side...but with your packs and equipment, you all come out to 1.5 people each, in comparison.

This would make for an interesting conversation if we ran into one and they were more interested in a lengthy debate rather than scare haunting.

Which gives me a great idea for a show. A crew goes around a big city trying to strike up conversations with ghosts.

"This is such a trap." You say.

"Yep." Akira says.

"Okay. I'm on point, Akira, when it eats me, be there to shoot it. Sato, watch our asses." You say.

"Good plan." Sato says.

You all head down the tunnel. "Hey man," Akira says. "You're a stubborn asshole, and I don't think we're going to ever be on the same level...but...there's no one I'd rather see get eaten first." He says to you with a smile.

"Thanks asshole." You say. "I feel the same way."

You head down the tunnel. It opens up into what looks like a...you have no idea what this room or this machinery is used for...pumping station sounds like it might be right, so you'll go with that.

It reeks in here. Old garbage that's got mold on top of mold; old grease; waste of the mechanical, human, animal, and others. The room is pretty big, but due to all the pipes, and thick cables and vines of wires it seems a lot smaller.

You're also a bit higher up than the ground floor. You look down and you can see the source of the smell.

It's a small little lake of filth. A drainage ditch must have plugged up, and/or, overflowed. Then all this junk and garbage must have piled up. You see rats, both living and dead, floating in that pool of wretchedness.

"Oh man, did you SEE their faces?" A voice says. "Big bad Ghostbuster badasses. HA!"

"They could see us." A second voice says.

"Well, they're exorcists, sorta, course they can." A third voice says.

"Still say it was a stupid idea." The second voice says.

The voices are coming from the pool of filth. Bubbling up and popping from the depths.

"Aww, it was a little fun, and it gives Ginza Street some cred!" The first voice says, this one is young and probably male. "We pranked the big bad Ghostbusters. Now we just lie low and don't do anything stupid."

"What if another exorcist or a yokai comes looking for us? Huh?" The second voice says. Male, a bit deeper. "This could cause trouble!"

I'm so tempted to say, "You GOT trouble!"
And when the smart one says "We're sorry!" respond with "Oh, you're GONNA be sorry, alright!"

But, better to be silent, implacable, and unyielding terrors.
>>
>>33641134
"Then I'll do my little lost soul bit." The third voice says, this one is female. "Say we were scared, that the big mean ghostbusters were here to take us away and put us in the Bad Place!" She laughs. "Maybe it'll get us a new 'big brother or sister,' if we're lucky."

You have a view of the pool clearly now through the pipes and wires. You can see the class 3s. They're just lounging in the pool, their lower bodies dissolving and then reforming out of the junk and filth that's down there.

Through your goggles, you also see what might possibly be skeletal remains floating in the pool.

Akira taps you on the back and whispers in your ear.

"Sato says that the Carbon Monoxide levels in this place is dangerously high. His meter's going off." He whispers. "Nothing fatal, but we can't sleep here."

There used to be things tacked to the walls here, posters, a curtain. Evidence that people once made a home here perhaps.

"Okay, so what are we going to do once we're sure that they're gone?" The younger male says.

"Same thing we always do." The female says. "Beg, get dumpster food, read manga, and come back here to fuck."

"For all eternity." The deeper voice male says.

"You want to go on? You want to see what's past there? You want to feed yourself to the darkness? To give up to the emptiness?" The girl snaps. "This is IT. This is all we get, and we were lucky enough to be able to stay here, and enjoy it, and I will NOT let you RUIN this for us. You want to be locked up in here again?"

"No." The male says.

"Good." The other male says. "Anyway, I don't see you complaining about being able to lurk in the women's room."

"Shut up." He sighs. "Okay, okay...I'm just afraid you know."

"We all are. But we're smart. Smarter than the yokai, smarter than the mortals, and smarter than death." The girl says. "Now just relax. This was our finest moment."

The three Class 3s all yelp in fear when the sound of charged proton packs is made audible from the four people pointing neutrino wands down at you. One of the falls apart completely and you see a form dive down to the bottom of the pool.

"Good morning! Friendly neighborhood Ghostbusters here," You say with a cheerful tone. "We got called in one 'Ikki' to check in on an 'Umi'. You wouldn't happen to know who that is, would you? Keep in mind that we will put you in the Bad Place if you lie to us."

"Shit." The female voice one says.

"Umi?" The male one says.

"Oh like you tell people YOUR real name!" The female one snaps back.

The other male one reforms. "You two HAD to go piss them off. Didn't you! Didn't you! NOW PEOPLE KNOW WE'RE HERE! NOW PEOPLE KNOW WE'RE DEAD!"

"Calm down you idiot!" The female says. "We're fine. We're fine!" She looks up at you all. "We just...we just..."

You have a bad idea how this bit ends. "If all you want is food, manga, and sex, we know a place that opened up nearby. It's a sanctuary. It'd be a lot better than eating garbage and living in filth."

"We can't leave Ginza." The second man moans. "We've tried! We've tried everything!"

"They're gonna tell. They're gonna tell!" The first man says. "We're going to die...for real! I don't want to go to the darkness, please!"

"SHUT. UP!" The girl says. "We haven't disappeared yet..." She looks up at you and then her trash face smiles. "They're not going to tell anyone, ANYTHING!"

Would seem so as that's the only source material dealing with it. There's probably another name for them but I call them PKE manifestations (not souls, just emotional energy given form; example those China golems we fought int the restaraunt or the book centurions from the game) and the latter as just ghosts (covered in black slime, such as Kayako).

>And that only the Black Slime Ghosts made by Shandor actually disperse when exposed to too much posi-slime? Regular ghosts simply get weakened until they can get captured?

Since the three were standing still, and the pool had stopped swirling. It's a dead on deluge.

There's a massive flare of sparks and light. When it clears the pool of muck is...well it's clear-ish. All the refuse and junk has sunk to the bottom, and you can clearly see the bottom...along with three large lumps in sleeping bags.

Floating above the water are three ghosts that resemble Yurei's form. Translucent, no legs below the knee, and human in appearance.

Three runaways, dressed in layered clothing, looking under fed, hardened by life, and unhappy. They float there. Looking like children being disciplined in front of a classroom. Eyes at the ground, gritted teeth in shame, and a body language of anger and defeat.

Akira makes half of a move towards his trap, and then catches himself and stops.

"You three willing to talk?" You ask. OW. Talking hurts, yeah...that definitely something cracked.

"Please...we didn't...we never HURT any one." Obi says. "We just...you know...if people thought we gave the Ghostbusters a few lumps, they wouldn't mess with us!"

"Please, please, please don't put us in those traps of yours!" Taro begs. "It hurts whenever we're not in Ginza. It like we're being ripped apart and burnt alive! Please!"

Akira shakes his head and looks at you. "Regret and repentance comes so quickly for the defeated."

"The ancients say "Honor is the term for how the Winners Treat the Losers.' Or something like that." Sato says.

Star just looks at you. "How's your chest?"

"Cracked." You say.

She winces. "Another visit to Nurse Reika and her impressive...bandages." She says (with a little touch of envy.)

"We leave them here, Black Slime build up will happen again, and we CAN'T just not TELL anyone about..." Star gestures to the three bodies that are lying in the sleeping bags at the bottom of the flooded room.

Slimer was an odd case.

We can offer to get them items that they can bind themselves to, like Yurei's Chyme. We'll probably have to use items they felt were precious to them when they were alive, down at the bottom of the pool.

Once they bind themselves, we can remove the bodies and move the ghosts elsewhere.

Akira gestures with his hands to show that they're nowhere near the trap, and the ghosts stop sobbing.

"Really? She always acts skittish around me. Like she's afraid of me or something. Yeah, there was that time after the party but...she's really not frightened of me?" Akira asks.

Star and Sato stare at Akira for a bit, and then break into stifled laughter. They regain themselves and they nod. "Yes, Akira. Yurei is not afraid of you."

"What's so funny?" Akira asks you.

The ghosts look at each other and then back to you.

"Okay." Umi says. "That's...that's okay. If you promise."

"I promise." You say.

"Okay...how do we bind ourselves to something?" Umi asks you.

Crap.

"Give me one second." You say and you go over to Sato. "Give me the manual."

"Why do you...oh no...don't tell me."

"Just give me the manual."

Sato hands you the manual. "Can we check with HQ? See if Yurei remembers how it worked?"

"No reception." Star says. "And Yurei can only put texts up on her own Chyme."

"While I look this up." You say to the ghosts. "Do you three have any truly treasured possessions, either here, in the station or..." You look down at the pool of water. "Down there? Remember, this is something that you'll be attaching every part of...of YOU to. So it needs to be something Important."

"My father's ring." Obi says.

"The keys." Taro says.

"Juliette." Umi says. "She's...It's a small porcelain cat."

"That came fast." Star says. "That's good, right?"

You nods. "Yes...yes. It's good, very good. It shows a proper connection to themselves and the items and that vital for...the connection."

"They're all down there." Umi says.

"I'll go get them." Akira says as he takes off his pack. "A ring, keys, and a small cat. Are they just in the mess or with your...with you?"

"In the mess." "In the mess." "With me."

There's a splash and Akira's swimming through the stagnant water. You envy the fact that he'll smell slightly better than you do right now...and hurt less...since HE gets to use the ladder.

Still, you pour through the text looking for something. ANYTHING that can help with this.

It's like it's teasing you. There's stuff on anchored items. How to handle them, how to cleanse them, how to transport them, how to treat them, how to destroy them, how to display them, how to find them, how to detect them, how to use them, and how to clean them.

But nothing, not a single damn thing, on how to MAKE them.

Which...sadly makes sense, since you guys aren't exactly on the supply side.

You could send someone out to the Dumpling Factory and back to get Yurei...but even then, how are you sure that SHE even knows how she did it? She just 'arose' with her soul bonded to the Chyme.

At least you could send someone up to where there is reception and contact Central, what time is it in the US, never mind...

But look at these kids. They're scared, and skittish, and right now they're teetering on a hope and the idea that you know what you're doing.

If you look like you're faltering, lose the crowd, they might run. With their incorporeal form, and the size of the inner workings of Ginza Station, they could hide in Steam Pipes that are twenty feet down. You'd never find them, not until they manifest again.

Although...

You have posi-slime. You have a very complete detailing on the workings of Anchored Items. You have three ghosts who are willing to do what you say...and you've got a truck load of bullshit, psycho-babble, and buzzwords that sound good.

It says it again and again in the manual. Ghosts are beings of PKE...but also of emotion, belief, and ideas. (You think that Dr. Stantz was being a little poetic there, Dr. Spengler would not approve.)

But...maybe you can do it.

You feel oddly calm when Akira comes back up with the items. It's like that moment right before you ruined your old life. There's so much that can go wrong, and your actions, your words, will effect the lives (and unlives) of people in permanent ways. You have no doubt though. No panic. No fear.

After all, that manual you hold in your hands? It's been put together by people who also just made it up as they went along. Isn't that the whole point of being a Ghostbuster? To look the dark and shadowy things in the eye and say with certainty that THIS is how it is and THIS is how it works and THIS is what is going to happen.

Did the exorcists of Ur know any better themselves?

You have slime. Three core items. A notebook of blank pages. A few words of latin from the handbook. A sharpie marker (black). A cheap lighter. Your rail pass, and all the bullshit you can shovel.

> Make up a ritual. The better it sounds, the bigger the die will be when you have to make the rolls. (1 for each ghost) NOTE: There WILL be actions that will count against you in the final roll, and if it's TOO complex, that'll work against you as well.

> As a plus, there will be no interference from the Kami, as they normally would...because they aren't here.
>>
>>33644326
One ghost in the notebook, one in the rail pass, one in the lighter, all affixed with as many fancy symbols as we can possibly make. Chant some English and Latin, something to the effect of 'bind these souls til Judgement Day' or somesuch, then use the slime and any other tech we have to form a conduit from the corpses to the items. How does that sound.
>>
>>33644326
Let's see here... Write their true names on a piece of paper, MAYBE take some hair from their corpses, burn it, mix the ashes with posi-slime, and then just kind of rub it in the items?

And do some chanting as well.
>>
>>33644389
It sounds like you forgot that they already have focal items.
>>
>>33644389
If Daisuke knows anything about 40k, we might be able to crib some prayers/blessings from the Adeptus Mechanicus to cover the chanting part.
>>
>>33644396
With the chanting we should definitely talk up that we're Ur-Exorcists, maybe use the rail pass as a symbolic token of us being the ones who can walk on both sides of the mortal plane, or something like that.
>>
>>33644389
Make sure to tell them that while the ritual may seem half-assed, it's the symbolism that makes the difference, and that a fair amount of it working depends on whether they believe it will.
>>
>>33644410
Why the fuck would we do that?

Also to up their chances, maybe we should bring up that now all of Japan stands at a crossroads. The Kami are gone, and the Scorned Woman writhes in the shadows ready to spread her wrath and swallow the whole nation in her vengeance.

Ask them if they're sure they wish to stay on this cursed plane, and when they said yes, we say that should be a symbol of their resolve.
>>
>>33644409
You're right, I forgot that. Still, aside from the change of items and maybe burning some paper dramatically, the theory is sound I think.
>>
>>33644437
Why would we tell them that?

We need to act like we know exactly what we're doing.

Maybe use the notebook and sharpie to make some of those spell tag things.
>>
>>33644468
Or, we can take advantage of the Kami being gone to beseech/threaten them to allow these lost souls to stay in the mortal realm.

It might make things more convincing.
>>
>>33644468
To add a sense of gravitas/legitimacy to the whole thing and use the concept of the 'machine spirit' as a base for what we're doing. Just an idea, though, and it wouldn't surprise me if Daisuke didn't have the necessary background anyway.
>>
>>33644326
Alright, binding. So, everything is a deal till x happens. So they need to be bound in the items till they can pass on to the afterlife, not the void. Latin should be saved for the heights & finishes of anything we do.

We should probably also write something on each item that will be their bound items.

Finally, we need to invoke the idea or gestalt/god entities that comprise some form of either redemption, that they will be bound to give up the path of slow death to a path of redemption.
>>
>>33644326
Since they're at a train station, the grand finale should be each of us, one by one, gets on a train carrying one of the key items, outside the station.

It'll be symbolic and show them breaking the bonds of their haunting ground.
>>
>>33644396
This without the hair, then >>33644538
With the words being mostly flavor/reassuring the ghosts that we're the best at what we do.
>>
>>33644538
Alright, now that you guys have thrown out a lot of wonderful ideas (and a few bombs as well, heh heh.) lets get a ritual together.

First things first. The items have to be prepared.

You can:

> Cover them in slime
> Make a 'seal tag' for them
> Chant latin over them
> Get hair from their bodies and wrap them around them

> You can do as many or as few of them as you'd like. As always first three-vote consensus is what will play.
>>
>>33644636
Everything but the seal tag sound good, only because Sachiko isn't around to make the seal more genuine. That's the only drawback to that one.
>>
>>33644636
>Cover them in slime
>Get hair from their bodies and wrap them around them

Explain that the slime serves as a medium from their old vessel to their new one.
>>
>>33644636
>Cover them in slime
>> Get hair from their bodies and wrap them around them
Supporting >>33644684 on this, tell them we're using the slime as a transference medium.
>>
>>33643088
Back from this after a most unfortunate nap. What have I missed?
>>
>>33644636
I'd start with gathering hair from the bodies. Every culture has stories of fetishes made from the dead. I feel on pretty solid ground there, we're working with someone that was definitely once of them, and we can use that to reinforce that the items aren't just anchors, but are in fact their new "bodies", just as personal as their old ones and that where the items now go, they can follow.

Then maybe coat them in slime since the ghosts can interact with the slime & feel the effects, and we can use that to reinforce the next step as well.

"Do you feel it working?"

Placebo effect, where people answer "I . . I think so" and then we can say something like "That's your essence bonding with the object, your new body" and then chant something in latin that has about the same length/cadence.

I am so against calling on the old gods. We don't know what else might hear us calling on them. Stay away from that, oh god please stay away from that.

Just to be clear, I'm advertising only the hair & the slime for prep. Save the latin & getting them to reinforce the binding themselves for the next step. Oh, we should also only ask one of the ghosts if they're feeling it, whoever's most excited. If the other two see one of them react positively, they're more likely to do so themselves.
>>
>>33644684
I feel like we should act like this is SCIENCE, like speak confidently and just below shouting, and throw around a lot of technobabble and English scientific terms.

Like we're wearing jumpsuits and carrying around weapons that look like they came from a spaceship, any 'magic' stuff should seem like we've homogenized it.

Just... pretend we're the Japanese equivalent to Bill Nye, and we know what we're doing.
>>
>>33644741
We're trying to improvise a Planar Binding which probably has at best a 50/50 chance of working. It's a hell of a lot of fun though!
>>
>>33644760
What are we attempting to do btw? I just got back here.
>>
>>33644636
I forget, how good are our fellow ghostbusters at singing?

Because we could have the best one of them do some wordless chanting, explain it as a why to truly "wake" the Slime.
>>
>>33644774
...Then read the posts?

We're making up a ritual to get these punk ghosts (one of which Ikki hired us to protect) bound to some special items like Yurei is to her Chyme, so they can leave the station to which they have been bound.
>>
>>33644760
That's what the goop is for. But I'm not opposed to flipping through the book and pretending like we're reading from a particular formula. Sort of doing "Okay, so if their bodies are still here . . . . uh uh . . . okay, and we can use the slime for this, it should work even better then what they had in the old days . . . . okay, and since they're willing to work with us we can skip this part entirely! Perfect, shouldn't have any problems."

Then close the goddamn book so they can't sneak a peak and find out we're bullshitting. I can't stress this last part enough.
>>
>>33643382
>"Please, please, please don't put us in those traps of yours!" Taro begs. "It hurts whenever we're not in Ginza. It like we're being ripped apart and burnt alive! Please!"
Well they ought to know you can't feel anything in there, since you're reduced to your most basic particles without an ability to feel consciousness. Same goes for the Containment unit, except there they may or may not be conscious but they should be prevented from pain either.

But I take it we want to give them the option that lets them not need to be trapped right?

>Reading on
>>
>>33644822
And making them associate with items would prevent them from suffering these painful sensations when outside of Giza I see.

Have you tried asking them more about their personal life or if they can remember? Items of sentimental value to them or sometime similar might be helpful.
>>
Shit, I forgot an important step.

Have the ghosts say why they ran away in the first place, either out in the open, or whispered to whichever one of our three teammates prefer, have that reason written down, then burn the piece of paper and blow the ashes into the water where they died.
>>
>>33644760
>>33644709
>>33644684

"Akira, I need you to go back down again." You say. "Get some hair."

Akira grumbles, but he does it. He still smells better than you.

You carefully tie the hair around each item then slime them. "This is positively charged mood slime. It's LOADED with PKE energy and it responds to things around it."

"Your hair, your DNA, is reacting with the slime and the item." You say. "That way, the two items they get a similar feel to each other, and the bonding experience is that much simpler. You might feel a little bit of a tingling, that's normal. That's good, but don't worry if you don't feel anything yet. We've only just started after all. We've just gotten the 'house' ready for you. We haven't moved in anything yet...so to speak."

The ghosts nod. They're totally buying it.

Sato and Star look impressed.

Akira looks wet.

"Now," You say. "We have to prepare the channel. The way for you three to place all of yourselves into these items. We're not DOING it, just...'clearing the road' is the best metaphor."

> Make a trail of slime from the ghosts to the items
> Place the items on pieces of slimed paper with their true names written on them
> Make the 'seal tag' now
> Do a latin chant over them
> Have them make a vow to accept being bound to the item
> Open prayer

> Again, as many or as few as you'd like.
>>
>>33644873
...We already know they have objects of sentimental value. Weirdly specific ones that they came up with really easily. It's why we think there might be a chance that we can pull this off.
>>
>>33644891
> Make a trail of slime from the ghosts to the items

>>
>>33644873
>>33643846
>>33644895
Items of sentimental value, alright that's good.

So we decided to do this here and now and bluff them into believing a ritual then, instead of at the base.
>>
>>33644910
But it could act like a physical conduit for their PKE
>>
>>33644891
>Make a trail of slime from the ghosts to the items
>> Place the items on pieces of slimed paper with their true names written on them
Both of these strike me as the most important.
>> Do a latin chant over them
This also seems like it might be helpful, though.
>>
>>33644891
>Make a trail of slime from the ghosts to the items
Maybe just this one, since we seem to be doing a scientific bend.

Be sure to get some on the ghosts themselves if possible. I forget, can slime physically interact with intangible beings?

>>33644921
They can't leave the base without being trapped. And we don't want to do that because they're being whiny babies about it.
>>
>>33644946
Doing the latin chant is magic. We're science. We do the minimum required to make it work. Most of the magic is getting them to believe.
>>
>>33644943
Good point, withdrawing >>33644910

Do we have an explanation for why the names would work? Or maybe in addition to their name, we can write down their biggest regret? Say that while it's kind of sad, nothing makes a better anchor than regret. And it's one that we're willing to help them carry, for as long as they wish.
>>
>>33644891
When we're doing the names, ask them to focus on who they were, and who they are now.

Use words like "actualize their identity" or whatever.

Yup. Silme actually collides and impacts with ghosts midair.

> Make a trail of slime from the ghosts to the items
Pesronally i would suggest making it more like a circle with lines going inward pointing to the object, like swirl that points inward. Then inform them that the Slime will channel their essense, like electrical wiring, and the shape of the ring will make it easier for their PKE to be channeled into the object. Almost like a whirlpool.

Kinda like a magic ring.

Hey it's probably bullshit, but it's believeable.

>>33644987
Their names are important to their identity, any sort of thing they can focus on binding an object to their identity is important. It's why they aren't just piles of PKE, they are /them/ but what makes them?

Their name.

Their experiences.

>>33644970
Hey, Ivo Shandow became a god via Magi-science back in the 1800's, and he did it all with steampower and electricity, no nuclear physics required.

This sort of thing would be natural to him.
>>
>>33645028
That's a good point.

Like should we point out that they have no skin, flesh, or bones anymore. Nothing to define their appearance, and yet here they float before us, just as they did when they were alive.
>>
>>33645048
If we only had pictures of them in life that'd be even more helpful.

You know it's true what they say that photo's take a piece of your soul. They take part of your identity and store it even after you die.
>>
>>33645069

Also for precedence slime actually DOES channel PKE energy and ghosts. It's how the great Mandalla of New York worked, rivers of slime and PKE reactive materials pumped by Shadndor island made all the ghosts in New York converge into major points, all boiling down to letting Gozer return to this world.

It was a mandala.

We have actual historical example for this.

>>33645092
Yeah, a Mandalla, call it that.
>>
>>33645110

Maybe we can actually bring up the Mandala of New York? Like cite our bullshit? And confidently state that stuff like this HAS happened before, we're just doing it at a smaller scale.
>>
>>33645083
Yeah, names and slime trail. Personally, I think we should have them reveal their true name as they place the object into the centre of the slime.

Should be extra effective since Umi apparently didn't even reveal her actual name to the other two.
>>
>>33645123
Even just knowing and being able to acknowledge this stuff is true gives us a bit of an edge here. But yes, citing it would be good.

Our belief is just as important here too.
>>
>>33645083
"Now, first we need a True Connection. Something that is unquestionably, actually, without a doubt YOU, more than just DNA, something that has a connection to your spirit as well as your being." You say. "Please tell Star your names and she'll write them down on a piece of paper, one each. And be SURE to tell her how you SAY your names and how you like them to be written. I mean, you talk to three different people named Daisuke, and you'll hear Daisuke said in three different ways. They'll also write it differently. Right? Exactly, each person's name is important, so we have to get the nuances right." (Thank you annoying American student-transfer that wouldn't shut up about his love for Jim Butcher's work for that piece of bullshit.)

You get the names, and carefully place them on each item. "Now, what Sato and I are making with the slime here..." You start making a squiggly design in a circle, slowly expanding out. "Is a mandala. This is a curved path that allows a soul to cycle through towards the central node. This will prevent any of your PKE from going astray. It 'locks' you in on this 'road' making sure that all of you goes into the artifact." You smile. "Don't worry if they don't look exactly the same. No two mandala are the same, as long as the principle are intact, it'll work. Right?" You say to Sato.

"Right. Totally." Sato says. "As the ancients say,"

Yeah, I realize there are good reasons for this, the money, their circumstance, them not wanting to/unable to.

"The road less traveled is the road that flowers grow upon." He says with a big smile.

The ghosts all frown. They have no idea what he is talking about.

"Or...something like that." He says, quietly, looking sad and upset with himself.

Well, the goddamn ancients have killed the mood. That's for certain!

"We've seen this before." You say. "In New York, there was a MASSIVE mandala that trapped a huge number of ghosts to the entire city, course that was a totally different case, but we learned a LOT from in and how to PROPERLY utilize mandala."

You've got a little momentum back...but goddamnit Sato...

Letting Sato talk was a terrible idea. But, OOC, fucking hilarious and terribly appropriate. Glad to see we're not going the powergaming route here.

Anyways, I'd get the ghosts to say why they ran away, and then get them to burn the paper as they cry out something like "AND I WILL RUN NO MORE"

They all do it at the same time to reinforce each others belief, and to prevent anyone from panicking and saying it didn't work and spooking the others.

Please, please, I beg of you. Stay away from invoking any gods. I can think of so many ways that shit goes wrong. They don't know what god we call, we call an inappropriate one, or worst of all something that ISN'T the god answers.
>>
>>33645281
> I'll need you to say an absolute truth about yourselves
Seems practical. Pain would bind them better, but it might not be pleasant for their existence to always be focusing on it. Same may or may not be true for running away.

A deep secret might work.

>>33645309
Hrm, well that's not particularly true this is helping them run away from their fate than face it head on. But that could still work too.
>>
>>33645281
>I'll need you to say an absolute truth about yourselves.

They're already a bit wary, I don't think we can afford to spook them at this point.
>>
>>33645281
>We'll do a chant in latin.
>> We'll be burning the paper with your names on it, and the hair
>> I'll need you to say an absolute truth about yourselves.
>> I'll need you to say why you ran away.
Dammit Sato! Well, time to pull out all the stops!
>>
>>33645327
The only reason we ought to ever invoke the gods should be a binding oath.
>>
>>33645327
We gave him a shit.
>>
>>33645281
Also seconding this.>>33645309
>>
>>33645344
Whoops. meant to say shot. Although what we got back... That's why you're not the leader, Sato.
>>
>>33645281
>> I'll need you to say an absolute truth about yourselves
Make it something that is true of them not only in life but as a ghost, something that defines their character and who they are even without a body.
>>
>>33645343
I would prefer to avoid them wherever possible, really. At best they complicate shit. At the worst, they dick you over for reasons incomprehensible to man - or just for fun.

I mean, Ish made us fight dark clones, and she's supposed to be on our side. But, you know, for the lulz.
>>
>>33645373
It is admittedly useful though since they literally are unable to break such an oath once bound.
>>
>>33645373
Mainly because our gods are the Kami's and acknowledgement of the Sumerians.

The Christians never experience these problems, all they gotta do is call on his name and bam he's there to help, but theirs was nice enough to actually become human for them, die for their sins, etc.
>>
>>33645358
>>33645333
>>33645329

"It has to be a REAL truth, something deep and personal and above all EMOTIONAL." You say. "This will cause every part of your being to resonate with PKE, as spectral beings, your PKE can be changed by emotion. You can actually see PKE wavelengths change and fluctuate as different emotional states effect it. We've kept ours as neutral as possible. Our ghostbuster training has made us VERY good at that. But when you super charge your OWN PKE wavelength WHILE you're doing this, that will make the 'transference' as tight and complete as possible."

They nod. Umi frowns and looks at you with a hand raised.

"Yes?" You ask.

"Can...can you cover your ears while we say these things?" She asks. "We'll say them out loud and make ourselves...emotional...but...you know...this is personal stuff."

> Okay
> I'm sorry, no.
>>
>>33645424
"The more people who believe in you and know about you, the more powerful and stable you are as ghosts. If we knew more about you, you'd be a lot safer, but if you insist we'll close our ears."
>>
>>33645438
i agree
>>
>>33645424
Eh, if they have to.

Remember that they're the ones with the power here. What matters is that they find a truth that resonates with their hearts. And I'm not talking about that rotting blood pump over there.
>>
>>33645424
>Okay
As long as you hear each other's statements, that should be good enough, right?
>>
>>33645438
Which, surprisingly, is contradictory to what they falsely believed earlier.
Really if people know about you and remember than you're safer, not in more danger.
>>
>>33645424
>>33645438
Tell them it works much better if we hear, but if they're confident in themselves we won't have to.
>>
>>33645438
"The more people who believe in you and know about you, the more powerful and stable you are as ghosts. If we knew more about you, you'd be a lot safer, but if you insist we'll close our ears." You say.

"Yes, please." They say. "Close your ears."

You all do so, and then with a muffled shout and a rush of light they all possess the items.

"And now we finish this ceremony." You say.

> Burn the paper and the hair
> Hose it down with slime
> A drop of blood from the 'exorcist' in charge on each item
> A latin chant
> A 'seal' place upon the item
>>
>>33645400
Are you serious? Have you ever read the bible? The Christian god is the greatest troll god.

Also, noticeably hostile to anything supernatural that isn't holy.
>>
>>33645486
>Burn the paper and the hair
>> Hose it down with slime
>> A latin chant
The blood seems excessive and we have no idea how to empower a proper seal tag, but let's bring it on home!
>>
>>33645494
That was old testament anyway. As for the second, that does explain why all they have to do is call on his name and pray during exorcisms. Protestants at least.
>>
>>33645486
> Burn the paper and the hair
> Hose it down with slime
> A latin chant
>>
>>33645500
No, let's not mess up the mandala we have going here by throwing slime everywhere please.

We don't even know latin.
>>
>>33645486
>> Burn the paper and the hair
>> Hose it down with slime
> A 'seal' place upon the item
>>
>>33645486
Slime it up. Let's practice KISS, we've kept it fairly technical and all about the mandela & slime so far.

Burning the paper and the hair is just too reminiscent of them vanishing into the void.

I'm leery about the blood, too. I can't think of how it would work as sacrifice or seal, since the truth they're telling works on that end.

As for the seal placed on the item, unless we can magically carve it there then it seems like an extra thing to stress about if it falls off.

I'm okay with the latin chant.
>>
>>33645524
Amending my vote for >>33645524
let's just cover them full-body with slime so that it drips down onto the mandela's centre or something.
>>
>>33645538
The hair I can see as necessary to imbue their DNA through sacrifice by fire, something similar could be said of their name. Kinda like burning incense.
>>
>>33645561
That works.
>>
>>33645486
Burn the hair as a way of symbolizing that the way back is closed, and that their only choices are to move on, or bond with those items.
>>
>>33645524
>>33645561
>>33645578
(So, I'm reading three votes for JUST slime, correct?)
>>
>>33645574
Eh, maybe if we burn the hair separate from the item. But not while it's wrapped around it.

Or maybe if we cast it as the transition from their old body to their new vessel. Maybe say it out loud like a chant in japanese then repeat it in latin.
>>
>>33645561
Honestly, was just worried that throwing more slime would mess up the mandalla. Just like you're not supposed to mess up magic circles with incorrect chalk markings or wrong wiring in a circuit could make the whole thing not work.

But that might work, I think.

>>33645602
give us just a bit more time to think this out, we're being surprisingly very specific about this "ceremony"

>>33645604
I could back that. Once they were physical, now they are ethereal like smoke. We now bind this smoke, their essence, to this object.
>>
>>33645604
>maybe if we burn the hair separate from the item. But not while it's wrapped around it.
>maybe if we cast it as the transition from their old body to their new vessel. Maybe say it out loud like a chant in japanese then repeat it in latin.
>>33645621
> Once they were physical, now they are ethereal like smoke. We now bind this smoke, their essence, to this object.
Sounds reasonable enough. I'll back it.
>>
>>33645621
Sure, I guess we can try that.

I'm worried that it already was FUBAR when we let Sato talk.
>>
>>33645602
Burn the hair and names separate. One is to imbue their DNA, the other represents their transition from physical to immaterial.

Slime, for channeling and conducting their essence into the object from which they are bound.
>>
>>33645602
Fuck it, changing my vote after confirming it (deleted confirmation). Slime & Smoke with some sort of formal transitioning as stated in >>33645604
>>
Man, we started off so strong too.
>>
Hey, it's a little late but any reason we aren't using that spirit guide I think Star picked up back in thread 1?

You know, our alternative to Spengler or Tobins spirit guide, it helps us with Japanese mythos.
>>
>>33645696
I'd go with "energy" or "aura" instead of DNA. I mean, I know we're going the science route, but DNA doesn't work like that AT ALL.
>>
>>33645621
>>33645643
>>33645696

You carefully remove the hair and paper, while keeping the item in the center of the mandala. Then you take your lighter and set them aflame. They go up quickly into smoke.

"Now what they were, name and body, are as smoke. That smoke we seal into these items, their body, their being, their selves."

You then drip slime onto the items. "And with this, we seal the mandala. Closing the circuit and keeping your selves within these items. Freeing you from your bodies, and this dismal place."

You gather up the items. The ghosts have reappeared yet.

The items feel...slightly warm. Though that could be the slime.

You exit the service tunnels, go back up the train line, and walk up the stairs to Tokyo. You take a deep breath as you walk past the threshold.

> base 1d6
> Part 1: Slime: Neutral, Hair: Good. +1
> Part 2: Slime: Was going to be bad, but I upped it to neutral for the mandala, Names: Good. +1
> Sato broke the mood. - 1
> Part 3: Truth: Neutral because you didn't listen to it. 0
> Part 4: Slime: Neutral, Burn: Good +1
> Number of steps: 7. Less than 10, but not a multiple of three. Neutral. 0
> Result. +2

> Roll 3d8, highest total of the first three plays.
>>
>>33645800
What do you mean? We're doing pretty well right now, even after Sato's mishap.

>>33645807
Well technically speaking DNA might serve like a sort of Biochemical identifier

We're just spewing bullshit anyway, but if Aura works then go for it.

It's probably the one ghost we needed too.

Though I guess that might not make sense with a d4, unless there was a 25% chance of absolute failure.

There's a rush of air as you step out into the light, and you walk to the side and out of the main flow of traffic, and down an alley.

The items are still kind of warm. That's...something. Right?

You hold out the ring, they keys, and the little cat. "Okay...come on out." You say.

Nothing.

"Hello?" You say, quietly.

You look at the others who have followed you. Sato has out the PKE meter, and is looking at it sadly. "Nothing."

"They must still be down there." Star says. "Oh, now they'll never trust us!"

Akira kicks a wall. "Damn it. DAMN IT!"

"What do you care?" You ask. "So we're going to trap them later, aren't you happy?"

"I. Am NOT. A TRAP HAPPY PSYCHOPATH!" Akira yells at you. "At least I don't go around like a...like one of those fucking FAITH HEALERS and sell BULLSHIT HOPE to people who can't AFFORD to LOSE IT!" He laugh. "Fuck man, I was even buying it!"

"Well," Sato says. "As the ancients say,"

"OH SHUT UP!" You snap. "This is partly YOUR fault, you know! You and those...those STUPID sayings of yours. They were STUPID when we were kids and you STILL haven't grown up!"

Sato steps back like he's been hit.

You sigh. "I'm...I'm sorry Sato. I'm sorry. I didn't. I do like those says. I really do. I'm just angry."

You let the items drop to the ground.

(cont)
>>
>>33646003
Suddenly there are three translucent figures, dressed in layered clothing, looking underfed and under washed, with nothing below their knees, floating there.

You all stare at each other in shock for a moment. Then you all burst into laughter and cheers. Akira is thumping you on the back, and Sato...well...

"As the ancients say 'Any one that's a win!' Or something like that!"

There are a few little snags though. Like Yurei, they can't talk, and since they have no physical form, they can't eat or feel much any more, and their powers have dropped...significantly. However, they're just happy to be OUT of Ginza Station.

"You do know what this means, right?" Star asks you as you all ride on the train to home. The Vagabonds' items safely tucked away in your pocket...and all the sweet sweet cash they represent.

"What?"

"You're going to have to re-write the manual." She says with a smile.

Alright I archived this thread
>>
Alright, now that we're in the way of money let's make out a list of items we ought to get.

>Atomic Destablizer
Need this to bust youkai without killing them by turning them into ghosts and making them trappable, just like how the GB did it for the Boogeyman and physical Demons

>Ethereal Solidifier
http://ghostbusters.wikia.com/wiki/Ethereal_Solidifier
>Mass Maker
http://ghostbusters.wikia.com/wiki/Mass_Makers
Does the opposite of the destabilizer and makes PKE solid and more stable. We did say they could eat and have sex again, so I kinda wanna keep to our word but mainly so we can charge Ikki extra. Also if we plan to bust that primal spirit much later.

>Molecular Phase Amplifier
PKE amplifier. Good if we need to up a signal or stabilize a weak ghost, or say the faint PKE signal in the coin we kept. Gotta be careful, overloading this machine could make something go right to the ghostworld.

---

Here's some other stuff I can see as useful, granted we might over exaggerating the funds but you never know.

>PKE Disruptor
http://ghostbusters.wikia.com/wiki/P.K.E._Disruptor
Anti-PKE device, helps stop ghosts from interacting with the material plane. Should have similar effects to Kayako's mom.

>Ecto Shield
http://ghostbusters.wikia.com/wiki/Ecto_Shield
Ecto-Shield technology. Prevents ghosts from being able to pass through.

>Mass Containment Field
http://ghostbusters.wikia.com/wiki/Mass_Containment_Field
Holds mass. Like say, giant monsters or hordes of zombies.

>Ghost Gun
http://ghostbusters.wikia.com/wiki/Ghost_Gun
Heavy duty weapon good against masses like zombies or Tengu if we ever find ourselves in that situation again.
>>
>>33646327
These all sound great, but don't forget we have to spare some money to Kaede too.
>>
>>33646387
Yeah, I'm thinking we get the Destabilizer for sure and the Solidifier/Mass Maker to reverse it if we need to.
