In a World of Darkness and Light, Monsters and Men, Dragons and Griffins, Witches and Mages, Heroes and Legends, Kingdoms and Empire's, there is much strife and war. Peace in all four corners of the world is a very rare thing of beauty. Kings and Emperors are fighting for power and land on both battlefields and at court. However, you're not part of this struggle for power, not yet. For reasons unknown you don't remember your life as a human nor the torture you went through to become what you are today; A twisted being of dark magic, your body has been mutilated and corrupted beyond its limits. However, like many dark beings before you, you've been chained by the power that rules behind the scenes of politics and war in this world; The Holy Church.

Created by darkness and leashed by the light, you're a monster under the Church's will. You are an Inquisitor, the last of its kind. Once a man, twisted by magic, you now serve the Church as a hunter or a judge against monsters, witches, renegade mages and all the evil that oppose the holy order.

One firm step at a time; That's the best way to make it up these ash-covered hills. You've been walking for hours through this barren wasteland. You've seen ruins and towns in the distance, but you've chosen to stay away from them; As long as you continue to move north east, you're bound to find your way to the heart of the Aelvii. Since two hours ago, a band of ill equipped goblins have started to follow you in the distance. There can only be seven of them that you have seen so far. Might be more of them moving from rock to rock as you get closer to the ash mountains.

“Ignore them; They're not worth our time.”, your humanity advised you and so far, you've been inclined to agree. Ever since you came to Aelvii with the elves magic, your humanity has started to speak more to you. It has even started to answer questions. So far you've discovered that you're previous name was 'Sanguine Shield' and you were a part of the Holy Order, but more than that it has yet to reveal. Questions on how you fell from being a holy man to an Inquisitor echoes in your thoughts, but your humanity pays it no mind.

Reaching another corner, you pass it by and find yourself at a crossroad, the narrow path to the left leading up a cliff side while the right path leads onwards on solid ground, further into the barren lands with rocks, mountain and ash.

Determined to figure out how close you are to the heart of Aelvii, you make for higher grounds by the narrow path by the cliff side. Small pieces of it breaks off as you steadily climb up towards the top. Looking back, you notice that all the goblins are following you, walking in file. Taking care of them would be easy, but risky now on this path.

Not about to test how much better a foothold you have on this path than the goblins, you continue to march upwards until you reach the top. The mountain levels and you can walk normally again without the fear of falling. From up here you can see the green and yellow Eastern Kingdom in the distance and to the west you can almost spot parts of the grey Hinterlands. Something green is in the distance, but it's mostly blurry even for yourself. You guess that's the Greensberg far away.

A shriek came from down the narrow path and you watch as one of the goblins fall down to its death. That one must have gotten impatient and tried to cut ahead, only to be pushed off the side by his so-called 'brothers in arms'. Might be good to take care of them now on a leveled plane such as this.

Before the goblin group get up to the top though, you spot the large spire jutting out from the mountains in the distance. That spire was located in the center of the Aelvii capital; you were close now. Closer than you've ever been to the heart of Monsters and physical dark beings.

The idea sneaks into your thoughts from the back of your head; whether or not it was your humanity that subtely whispered it, you can't decide. It hasn't struck you as a good idea before, but since they're not as many as the number you usually face off against, you guess it wouldn't hurt to see what they wanted. They haven't attacked you yet and even if that was their mission, they know just as well as you that they wouldn't stand a chance against an Inquisitor. Turning about, you watch as the band of six goblins came up onto the top of the mountain. Their yellow and bloodshot eyes danced around in their skulls, watching for even a slight move of aggression from you. Two of them had their weapons drawn just in case.

"Why are you following me?", you call out to them in their own language; Over the years you've learned the basics of some of the languages of the different kinds of monsters. The words you've heard the most are either "Die, Inquisitor!", or "Flee!", on various occasions. The goblins that were following you freeze up when you call out to them; They were not ready for this. They must have heard the stories of the notorious Inquisitor before, but none of the legends or myths that you've heard said anything about the hunter speaking to its prey. Suddenly one of the goblins start to back away, but its quickly stopped by the others that grab onto it and throw it forward towards you. In a fit of panic, it flies up from the ground, gripping the hilt of its sword just in case you attacked. You continue to remain passive, repeating your question to the nearby goblin.
>>
>>33631810

Out from its small and weathered boiled leather vest, the goblin pulls out a parchment and throws it at your feet. As you reach out to grab it, the goblin freaks out and launches itself backwards and starts to scream in fear, running away while the rest of the band of goblins break out in their wheezing laughters before they too scurry off after the fleeing goblin down the mountain path.

You open the parchment and read it; "Welcome to our domain, Inquisitor. We were highly surprised when our scouts told us of your sudden presence in our empire. I am sure you can share the details of how you entered it undetected once you arrive to the Spiral. Know that as long as you do not harm any of our warriors or citizens, you shall remain unharmed. If any of them attack you, you may use self-defence without consequences.

We look forward to see you, False one.", and so the parchment ends. They know you're in their empire and they are expecting you. Who is it though? The Monster Council or a group of Dark beings? Maybe both? Even so, you still have a prey to hunt in the heart of Aelvii. A Holy man in the midst of shadows.

No point wasting time when you've come this far and now you're also expected; it would be shameful of you to let them wait. With steady and balanced footsteps, the way across the walkway becomes a stroll in the elvish garden. Upon reaching the other side, you look down; the barren wasteland is like a brown and dark sea of ash, sand and rocks. Looking about, you can also spot fortifications and various strongholds the closer one would get to the capital; There are good reasons why neither side have subdued to the other during the course of this outdrawn war between the Imperium and the Aelvii. They know how to defend their lands and when and where to go on the offensive, as witnessed in the Hinterlands. All those no mans lands were filled with not only human corpses and skeletons, but also dead monsters. Dark beings didn't leave corpses though; even if they are of physical form, they die much like the spirits do; fade away in a mist.

It doesn't take long for you to realize that while you've been deep in thoughts, you've reached the end of the mountains connected to each other. To your right is a small mountain path down, but from the looks of it, it's arching all the way around, so taking it could mean a detour, albeit safer than the faster alternative; climb down where you are right now.

Not wanting to waste time or take unecessary risks for the sake of time, you start to climb down the nearby mountainside. Climbing down a mountain is, by your opinion, far easier than climbing up one. It takes less of a toll on your strength anyhow. After a ten minute climb down, your feet meet solid ground and you let out a small sigh. You're getting closer to the capital; you're near one of the fortresses now. Suddenly you hear something call out from your right; It's a herd of heavily equipped and armed Centaurs. Their horned helmet serve to intimidate their enemies and with their lances, spears, axes and greatsword, they aim to charge down any enemy in their path. However, on this day, the Centaurs don't charge at you like the ones you usually hunt do. No, these ones are staring at you oddly enough. They are not arming themselves or even grabbing for their weapons. Inside the herd you can see several smaller centaurs, children. This is the first time you've observed centaurs out on training to teach their children. What's the word Theresa would use? "Fascinating.", your humanity whispers. One of the chidren point towards the mountain behind you and then to you and says something to the larger centaur next to it. The large one follows where the child was pointing and then back to you. It merely nods at you, acknowledging your presence.
>>
>>33632708

"Tul'nhat!", the centaur that nodded shout and the entire herd breaks into a run as they make their way towards the stronghold nearby. It was a new experience to meet all these monsters that didn't attack at the sight of you. Something you might could used to, but you know you never will. An unrequited want.

You figure that you could either keep on walking in the barren wasteland, pass the strongholds by and make your way to the capital in your own pace, or you could take a chance and possible gain a mount or transport to the capital by showing the parchment you have by your waist. Would that work though?

Maybe it was the ash in the air or all these new experiences with monsters you've slain before, but something must have dulled your senses enough to think you'd need a mount or a transport to get anywhere faster. With the capital closing in, you decide that putting energy into sprinting wouldn't hurt, especially when your prey has escaped you every time so far when you've walked with your companions. You break into a run, quickly passing the stronghold by as ash and sand stir up behind you.

While keeping a close check on where you are sprinting, you can't help but think back on your former companions; Is Benjamin alive? Where is Autumn right now? The Elf girl you took care of? Theresa? Many questions remained unanswered and as much as you'd like to have these threads of mysteries untangled, you have a hunt to focus on. That is your priority for now. Everything else comes second. Pulling into a stop, you slow down as the mist of ash and sand engulf you.

Par'volen, the heart of the Aelvii Empire. More than half the city is built underneath a large arching mountain cliff that keeps the city in the shadow at all times. It didn't help with its reputation, but it did help the citizens of the city that hated the sunlight or the heat. Your destination lay in the part of the city that was not covered by darkness; the spire stood proud and tall, reaching higher than the arching mountain cliff. It was a testimony to the monsters and dark beings ability and willingness to cooperate in these dire times when the Holy Order and the Human Empire seeks to eradicate them.

The last bit on the journey was covered quickly with a sprint. The gates lay open to you and out and in from it, monsters came walking with carts filled with meat, fruits or vegetables, large direwolves, men and halflings in chains were pulled through the gates. Orks, Centaurs, and Minotaurs came marching out and in to the city with large pelts or dead prey from a hunt. They usually hunted in the Eastern Kingdom or in the still lush parts of the Hinterlands. Not much to hunt but giant sand worms or violent large Direwolf packs in these lands. Seemed almost like a human city, but replaced with monsters. No Dark beings in sight though.

You enter the city without gaining too much attention.

Whomever is waiting for you at the spire could wait a little bit more; Austec might be in the city somewhere else or even more likely, this meeting at the spire could be a way to distract you while your prey completes whatever he needs to do here or to escape again.

No,you're not letting him slip through your grasp again! You've hunted him in the Greensberg, through the Hinterlands, into the very Iron Kingdom itself, to the Eastern Kingdom and now here you are, in the heart of the Aelvii, the place your so-called 'masters' have sworn an oath to destroy. You've almost been all over the entire Realm by now; the longest hunt you've endured to this date. The faint memory of when you woke up in the cell in the dungeons underneath the church of Oaksberry and you found the parchment from the high priest attached to your sword seemed like ages ago, when it has only been two weeks, if not less. Teleportation magic was a wonder.

In any case, you've decided to explore Par'volen before anything else.

As far as you know, Austec might not be able to use or read the Holy scrolls; The most logical step would be finding someone who can translate the text or find out a way to use the scrolls. It would actually explain why Austec has been all over the Realm. However, if he couldn't read them to begin with, he either had help or it's because he doesn't know how to use them. He's been looking for someone who can enable him to use the scrolls. The Ork warlock couldn't, the Dwarves couldn't, not even the Elves or the spirits could, so he's trying his luck with the Monsters and the dark beings. Creatures that has extensively studied the core of light magic as it is their weakness and wouldn't shy away from helping a heretic and a thief of the holy order for the right price.

You're fairly sure that he knows you're hunting him as well by now. He must be getting desperate. However, once he discovers a way to unlock the secrets of the holy scrolls, what will he do with them? If Benjamin was right and two of the scrolls are a split key to the Imperium, then what does he intend to do with that key? Is he really going to let the Aelvii unleash its horde upon the city?

So, the Magi Section of the city is the place to visit if you want to find out if Austec has been here, asking for assistance. Upon arriving there, the shops outline the street on both sides. The stores are many and while some names might come off as original, most of them aren't. There are 'Magical wands and staffs', 'Trinkets and magical toys', 'Artifacts of Magicial proportions', 'Historical items of Magic'. The question is, which one of these shops did Austec try, if he ever came here?

Entering one of the more obvious choices, a bell rings as you step through the door. You hear shuffling from behind the counter and something heavy falling to the floor. A few seconds later, a short goat-like man walks in from the back and starts searching for something underneath the counter. Upon finding it, he brings up a pair of glasses to place on his nose in front of his eyes.

"How can I help an esteemed cu--", he proceeds, but cuts himself short when his eyes lock onto your reptile ones. His lower jaw slowly falls down, opening his mouth, creating an expression that can only be described as pure shock. He knows who, or what, you are.

"Austec Oakheart; Does it sound familiar? A holy man.", best to keep this short to not waste any time. The Satyr collects himself and fumbles with his glasses. His hands are visible shaking. "What of him?", comes the question from the short monster.

"He is my prey.", you explain beforeyou repeat the question of where he is. The Satyr puts the glasses back below the counter before facing you again,"Inquisitors hunting holy men. What is happening to this world?",the Satyr shakes his head. He doesn't seemtoo happy about you hunting Austec, "The man you're looking for came by here, yes. With three scrolls for me to look at."

"And?", you press the matter. "And I sent him away; I don't have the slightest idea how to unlock those scrolls. I'm just a simple merchant of magical items. I told him to go to the Spire if he wanted to find someone who knows about the arts of Light magic and its items."

Without a second to spare, you rush out the shop. There were still places that you could visit, but your prey was in the Spire. For now.

And the hunt was on again! The Spire was your destination and Austec was your prey! Time to sink your teeth into him and judge him. Sprinting through the streets, you blast past several carts, hearing a monster cry, "My cabbages!", in the background. Navigating through the city was not needed; you could see the spire rise up in the city and you just ran from street to street, as long as you were running towards the spire, the path was the correct one.

The gates of the spire was closed shut, but you were quickly greeted by an Ork, an Minotaur and two elves in full body black plated body armours. They looked like soulless creatures in those armours rather than monsters or elves. Some would argue that the two examples are the same. "Step through the portal, Inquisitor.", one of the elves told you, motioning towards the gateway of magic in front of the closed gates of the Spire. Without much hesitation, you marched through the gateway. Finding yourself in the middle of an elevated platform, surrounded by an oval formed table that had a large hole in the middle of it, you reached for your weapon at first. "That is not advisable, Inquisitor.", a voice called out to you. It was a grim and darkvoice. One you've heard before.

Out from the shadows stepped a creature in black robes, with burning eyes and smoke pouring out from its bottom, arms and hood. You figure that it must have been the same dark being as the one you met at the Iron Kingdom; Not a lot of dark beings without a physical form was away from the Lost Isles.

"Where is Austec?", you demand to know, staring into the dark pit of the dark beings hood, "In this very Spire. He's overseeing the... preparations.", the dark being floats closer towards you, with zero intent on attacking as far as you can tell.

"The Aelvii Empire has customs, the Inquisitor; We believe that anyone can prove themselves worthy of something, not matter what that might be. If someone wants to rule all of Aelvii, they must prove that they are capable of such, loved by the people and fierce and wise enough to rule."

"What does this have to do with me?"

"Ah, but you see, this has everything to do with you; You want Austec, I have him in my custody, but you have to prove yourself worthy of him. Even though you've made a rule to always stay cold and firm, even when your humanity resurface, you have a lot of supressed anger from what happened to Benjamin and Autumn. Maybe you cared for him, maybe you didn't, but the one thing that caused the hatred and anger to boil inside of you the most was that the Elf king made you choose who would die and who would live. You couldn't resist him.

Some of that anger floats in your blood now as you charge the incoming Centaur. At impact, the first sword swing is parried by you and as the second one comes in, you duck and bring the sword down upon the Centaurs arm from behind, cutting it off. The Monster makes a arch turn and let's out a roar that's mixed of anger and pain. You've just cut off the Centaurs left arm from the elbow down!

It charges you again!

The Centaur explodes into a rush, his greatsword flying through the air towards your throat when the distance grows closer between you two. You meet his sword half way through with a powerful swing and all your strength behind it. The Centaurs greatsword is cut in half, before the Monster has realised what just happened, you've sprinted after it and leapt onto its back, thrusting your sword through the back of its neck. In a large crash, the Centaurs falls to the floor while you jump off of it in the last second, landing safely on the black stone floor.

And it appears there's no rest for the wicked; Through he broken gates another figure steps through dressed in purple and green robes; A black Ork. It summons black burning magic in its hand that it easily tosses towards you, missing you barely thanks to your reflexes.

>A. Dance around, avoid the Orks magic till he runs out of energy to continue to summon spells. (DC 40)

With gracious moves, your reflexes enable you to easily evade every spell the warlock throws towards you. It almost looks as if you're dancing as you move about, evading, ducking, jumping, side stepping.

The Ork is clearly annoyed by your games and starts to summon a whole new spell that fills the room with a green glow. You've never seen this spell before.

>A. Try and evade the spell when it's cast. (DC 55)

You bend down on all four, preparing yourself for your sprint. The Ork Warlock has noticed it too, but he's far too into his spell to interrupt it now! You blast off from the spot, dashing towards the warlock, your sword in hand. The Monsters eyes grew wide in pain and shock when you slam into it, thrusting your sword through its abdomen and lifting it off the ground. There the Ork hanged with your sword through its stomach, coughing up blood on to the floor. After hearing footsteps from the broken gates, you throw the dead Ork off your sword and turn around to face your last opponent;

Its eyes were pale and white, the armour black and dreadful and the sword almost as long as her. Her skin was white and her hair even more so. A hood was pulled over her head, but her face was clearly visible. An undead elf. One of the rare specimens of the Monsters in the Realm. The strengths of both elves and undead and the weaknesses of neither.

"I've waited for this for so long", she whispers and takes a defensive stance with her greatsword, ready for you to attack.

>A. Use Blood Magic to tear her apart. (DC 70)

She's awaiting your strike the second it comes. She parries it and retaliates with a counter attack, aiming for your side, but you step out of the way. Slamming the pommel into the back of her head, you send her staggering forward two steps. However, instead of being disorientated like anyone else would have from such a hit, she spins around, slashing with her greatsword at you again. It's met by the blade of your sword. With one hand, you let go of the hilt of your sword and grabs hers. You twist her hand enough to make it drop her sword before you push her with all your might onto the floor.

"Kill me; I've failed.", She whispers with a defeated voice. You have technically already won, but should you show her mercy or kill her?

"We will meet again, maybe under better terms.", you make your choice moving past her, walking towards the broken gates. It's time to let the void dark being show you the way to Austec, the prey you've proven yourself worthy of collecting. Once you reach the pieces of the gate, you hear someone picking up a sword from the floor behind you. Turning around, you watch as the undead elf charges at you agan, greatsword ready to thrust through your abdomen. Just as she's about to penetrate and secure her kill, you slap our hands together, stopping the sword close to your stomach. The sharp tip of the blade is only centimeters away from your grey robes, "Why?", she whispers to you in anger and defeat. Her pale eyes stare into your yellow ones. It looks as if she's about to cry.

"You must live.", is the only answer she recieves before you throw her backwards, pushing her blade with her to the floor. She doesn't get up. She remains on the floor, in a fetal position. She doesn't cry though; only painful silence engulf her. You leave her, fairly certain you'll meet her again.

"You've proven your worth, Inquisitor. You're far too late to stop me now, but have your prize nonetheless.", the void dark being whisper in your head as the scenery change all around you. Instead of a corridor stretching on for a while, you find yourself in front of an intact gate. Looking behind you, the broken gate in the corner is gone. This is an entirely different level of the Spire.

"This dark being... is powerful.", your humanity says what you're thinking before you slowly open the gates in front of you.

There's a balcony built out from the wall and the gate, supported by a walkway attached to the wall by the gate. With steady and slow footsteps you make your way across the walkway. At the edge of the balcony there is a man with his hands crossed behind his back as he's overlooking something. Upon reaching the balcony, the man must have noticed you because he turns around.

He has blond short hair, a long jagged scar over his right eye and the left eye is blue. His features are neutral and he's unfazed by your presence. "I knew it was just a matter of time before you'd find me, Inquisitor.", his voice is the very definition of monotone.

"When an Inquisitor hunts something, it's not a question if it will find its prey, only when. Well, here I am.", the man named Austec Oakheart sighs with his arms outstretched.

You've caught your prey!

That's all for tonight, folks! I hope you enjoyed this session as much as I did. Finally got some more action into it and the plot advanced nicely in my opinion. Thanks for participating and I'll hope to see you next time!
