Gently, you lay Er Yin on the couch, her head in Miko-Kiku's lap; Kiku immediately starts stroking her lover's hair, and horns, anxiously smoothing the still rather static silver locks. Er Yin's hand slides along your arm, and gently squeezes your hand before she lets go, and Then she rolls onto her side, sighs sleepily. “Well, a rain check will be fine for now. I plan on each and every one of my beloved family getting their just deserts.” You run your hand through Kiku's soft hair, brushing her coppery horns lightly. She smiles, a little worriedly, but she still smiles.

Akari calls out from the kitchen. “Do we need to make Red Bean Jelly, aniki?”

You sigh despondently, in a manner thoroughly exaggerated. “Not this time. Maybe later though.” Kiki-hime is giggling at you again.

You look down at Er Yin and Kiku, the elder, more dangerous looking silver dragonette placid, helpless, vulnerable in the lap of the delicate, protective, fierce looking Fire dragonette. Your expression becomes a little more sad, and you reach down, tilting Kiku's face up to look into her glistening golden eyes. You lean close and kiss her, softly, slowly, and she accepts....and then reciprocates, her hand coming up to gently grasp your horn, much as Er Yin did your wrists earlier. For comfort, not control.

You break the kiss, and there is steam rising from your priestess' eyes, and she watches with a soft, tender smile as you lean down, and kiss Er Yin's temple gently. Er yin's arm comes up, and slides through your hair, to gently touch your cheek, her eyes remaining closed. Kiku looks down at her beloved Gin-Gin and that faint worry, that fear of loss is back. You take her hand, the one with the black jade ring, and then take Er Yin's hand, and hold them between both of yours, letting them feel your presence and warmth and love, silently commanding that they allow you to take care of them both, as they take care of one another.

The faintest of nods from Kiku-chan, and the smallest increase of Er Yin's smile is enough. You let them be, and silently you make your way into the back room as Kiki and Akari start setting up for dinner.

Soon you are going to make sure none of your loved ones has to look so worried.

You pause at the door to your room, and take a deep, steadying breath.

You take a deep breath and quietly slip your jacket off – your fedora is somewhere in the living room – and then shake your head. You strip by the simple expedient of dropping your clothing into ~Nowhere~ and pull out a simple black half-kimono with dark blue dragons embroidered along the edges....and then realize you need to start considering your other eye somehow. It clashes with everything you own.

You lick your lips gone dry and take a deep breath, cinching the kimono closed with the sash. It could be worse. Yui's sensibilities are hardly normal by any standards. And that is a little sad, sometimes. She shouldn't have been that lonely. Of course....that's part of what drew you together, wasn't it? That alienation.

Steeling yourself, you step inside....your own bedroom.

You hope Yui is the only one who has been in here, because really, there just is no excuse at all. The soft, cream colored satin and silk bed sheets, with their strips of pale orchid under the four poster bed complete with hanging curtains....those rose-colored satin pillows across the bed, balanced with a similarly shimmery comforter folded at the end of the bed....the light gradient of dusty rose near the ceiling, shading to pink walls and paling to a very light tiny of pink at the floor....the deep silver plush carpet that Yui is kneeling in the middle of, looking curiously at the one piece of art in the the room, situated on the sunlight trimmed white vanity with it's antique style brass-backed chair.

Oh. You had forgotten that was still out. You can feel your cheeks starting to burn.

“It's very strange looking, aniki.”

You step up behind her and look at the painting you were working on of Akari swimming in the pond behind the practice fields. The detail is very exacting, especially the scales along her legs and arms and the centerline of her nude torso. The thin silk you painted it on is fragile, and the watered down inks in varying pastel shades lend an illusory quality to it. There are lilies along the edge of the pond, and lotus blooms rising in the pond itself, and tiny jeweled dragonflies.

You continue to pull her closer, and hesitantly obedient, she moves closer to you and tries to settle on her knees again.

Shaking your head you continue to firmly pull (and kamuy, you are glad you lashed your tail to the frame, because Yui would have dragged you, the bedding, the sheets, and possibly the mattress over and collapsed it on top of you both because she's so freakin' heavy) her closer, until you have her nearly nose to nose with you. You then slides your arms about her waist and pull her into your lap, her soft derrière settling in the cup made by your cross-legged sitting position, and her tail shivering and twisting in her worry or fear or whatever haunts her.

You guess you were wrong about the ghosts.

You pull her close, letting her feel your soft breasts against her back, your hands gently closing around her waist and stroking her abs lightly through the shirt; your tail releases it's grip on the bed to lightly brush her calves. She sits very still, other than her tail, her head down, her glowing eyes downcast. You lean close and whisper to her softly, your lips brushing the curl of her ear. “I won't let them take you away. Yui opens her mouth wide and then bites into her palm from the pinkie side, awkward but probably the only way she could draw blood – she still only just manages to pierce the flesh.

You kiss her softly, your blood mingling and your hearts beating hard and swift against each other.

Your heart swells, and you smile, feeling the tears welling in your eyes. “Thank you, niji-chan.” You close your hand over the tiny scar and the ruby gleam that you are certain isn't merely a coincidence. “I will come back to you all, every time, because I already promised.”

She hugs you tight, a bone crushing hug that isn't quite as bad as you expected it to be, really. You hug her back and she sniffs softly.

She shakes her head. “Dinner's ready.” You can't help but giggle.

“Oh, so you really ARE an oni-child. I've been wondering.”

You roll off of her and sit up, tracing the tiny scar on your palm, and then the one between your breasts. Yui notices and sits up, and gently touches the scar as well. You feel a wash of power, and not from what you know as Horobi, but your own strength, your own personal power, and she shudders. Her horns gleam in the half-light as her eyes close. She almost seems ecstatic.

You can feel her drawing from your Water, not your personal Water, but the elemental nature of your water. She seems to be doing something to her own element, perhaps Overacting it, the way you did to her with the plant.

You reach out and play your hand over her warm breast, feeling the soft, powerful beating of her huge, gentle heart. “Ryuu Yui....” You can barely make yourself whisper the words, but it seems to be enough. The power slips away and she drops her hand, breathing hard.

“What was that all about, huh?” You slide your hand from her heart to her throat, and she rolls her head, purring softly, though it's more a smiling growl. You run your fingers along her cheek and then up to her horn, which immediately makes her nipples pebble hard again. “You okay?”

You smile as she opens her eyes....and then blink in surprise. Gone is the soft green glow – now her eyes are painted with a soft blue-white glow, similar to that you have when in your more true form. Or, at least the one you used to have.

“Arigatou, aniki.” She gets on her hands and knees, to surprise you with a brief kiss, before she starts to climb off the bed. Of course, once she gets near the edge she starts sliding immediately. With a flick of your tail you push yourself off the satin much faster and land in a crouch, catching your silly oni before she crashes to the floor and wakes the downstairs neighbor.

Yui wraps her arms around your neck. “Can I do it again?!”

You tumble her off your lap and she immediately sits up, looking at you with her bright blue eyes. “Baka oni....go eat!”

“Haaaaaiiiii....” she moans in a suffering, tragic, and totally fake voice.

You watch her leave, feeling not merely vindicated, but even better than you had when you walked in, and you hadn't thought that would be possible.

But now you have to make the second hardest choice. You sit down in the middle of the slowly darkening room, and sigh, knowing the worst part has finally come, as long as you've tried to hold it off.

Frankly, there's potential in all of the options. By going alone, there's less risk for them. By going all together, there's more risk but also more potential help. By taking only one, we have the same situation, but have to think carefully of who we take.

I'm thinking we should discuss this a bit before deciding on an option.

The only other real option would be Er Yin.
Since we need Akari to protect the others if someone should attack our hideout.
Thats also the reason why taking everyone might be a good idea, to have a eye on them, but it would make us more vulnerable in some ways.

Your family is tighter knit than ever before, and happier and healthier than they have ever been – sans Miko-Kiku's injury and Er Yin's dazed state. You suspect most of Kiku-chan's issues at the moment have to do what what she sees as a betrayal by Hinata-hakase, or your distrust of her. And it's understandable, certainly. Still, this is a place that is actively protected by very strong youkai, and any sort of commotion here will bring the very wrath of the Landlady-lord-thing upon their fool heads.

Still, you need a second or at least back-up. Even with your full strength and your newly gained demigod-nature completed if not trained, you aren't as invincible as you'd like your darling Yui-niji-chan and sweet Kiki-hime to believe.

Miko-Kiku is both Ryo trained and has lived in the temple itself, and is probably truly Hinata-hakase's friend. It would probably be good for her to deal with her issues, and being with her will help. A show of your faith in her can only help. Er Yin knows Hinata-hakase, but you aren't sure how well; she's the only true sorceress, and might be your only counter against Hidesato's magic. On the other hand, she is a capable warrior too, and her being here gives your family two defenses in one dragonette.

Yui would give her life for yours. It's obvious. But at the same time, she will obey, even if she hates the order. And that is valuable beyond all measure. Her cloud-hopping is another benefit – it will get you there and back or anywhere else quickly. She's also not stupid, which means Hidesato and Kushinada will underestimate her.

Akari....she's the most stable, the most reliable, and at this moment, with Miko-Kiku so overwrought, the best Ryo trained warrior. It would be folly to take her away from the others....and even worse to not take her. Of course....you could take Kiki-hime. It was she that Kushinada wanted to kill in the first place. She would be bait, but if you could extract a promise from Hinata-hakase....but taking her out in the open is just begging for bad things to happen. If she stays here, she'll at least be safe.

A soft tap at the door rouses you from your contemplation. Rising, you open the door to a worried Kiki-hime's soft, beautiful blue eyes.

“Are you okay, Ryu-chan? I thought you....um....”

You lift yourself up on your tip-toes and kiss her on the forehead. “I won't leave without telling you.”

The relief in her eyes belies her soft protests, and you gently take her by the arm. “Lets see how you and Akari did on dinner....and I'll tell you who is going to come with me to Hinata-hakase's....”

She wraps her arm about yours, and walks with you hip-to-hip to the dining room, where the sounds of your family enjoying dinner is music to your ears.

Music you will make sure you hear every day.
