OPENING
>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F468us4qCUE

Previously: Cerulean arrived upon a mysterious island after a mission to rescue shipwrecked personnel had gone awry due to mysterious humanoid monsters.

Meeting the natives, Cerulean found aid in the form of a humanoid monster by the name of Kurojo, a tusked Kahkori of Kakarkiko island.

With his and his uncle's help, she had been reunited with Marine, her friend from training and childhood.

After killing a fierce foe reviled by Kahkori, Cerulean fell ill, and was given a cure by Kurojo. In the village, she learned of a strange ability and found herself able to utilize "Aura."

Journeying with Kurojo, Cerulean and Marine make it to the joint city of races amongst the island chain. It is there in Raguna city that she fights to the death with a rambunctious Smolderan.
Slipping out of her right mind, she executes her foe with absolute certainty, earning her some recognition with a Smolderan leader and the right to engage in a hunting exam at his request.

Cerulran takes a test with another species known as the Araraki, an infallibly polite and timid representative of her people.
Upon completing the hunt, they are put through a naming ceremony and engage in some festivities, taking a somewhat heavier turn as Akabaron, Vi-Smohkan of the Smolderan, goes over his deal with Cerulean.

Charter the construction of a boat with Kurojo's aid...

Time passed in the city and you began prepping your4self for the hunt. Yasake debriefed you about what is known of the Lord Of White Waves.

It is known as the Lord of White Waves for when it frenzies it makes the sea bright as day, and it's often seen lounging about an island without any currents. He assured you though that other monsters stay far out of its area.
Many hunters have died trying to hunt it, and you decide that if you're going to hunt a monster of as high voltage as this, you'll need to increase your tolerance for electricity.

You and Marine, with pikachu leathers, spend long painful rounds electrocuting yourself to ready yourself for the true disaster that such a monster would deliver upon you.
Marine, shows a remarkable resistance while you feel hurt and fried after every session. Jojo drops in now and again to watch and keep you from overdoing it.

He doesn't say much these days, when you do catch him on his own, you find him staring out to the distance, looking out over the city and over the waves. You wonder what he's thinking at times like this, but you can't brig yourself to ask...

To practice for the hunt at sea, you went out to hunt seaborne monsters, being taught by Hao's own privateers how to man a hunting harpoon, you find it easy to aim, but learning how to use the device is good, you'll be able to steady it and ride the waves.

The ship's crew gains some confidence in your skill, and they express their hopes for the future, that you might be able to return home and they can travel to a new land.
>>

>Ceru r4eadies herself for the hunt and visits the new homeland of the Araraki!
For shame, Prof.
>>
>>33607997
Such shame. I still wish I could Archive after the thread's over.
>>
>>33607987

You met their enthusiasm with some anxiety. You can't bear to tell them what would await them at the dome...

Eventually amidst your personalized electrocution sessions, the Araraki “Child” visits you, bringing you some berries to assist with your recovery.

She tells you that the Elders have thought about what you'd said, and that they'd like to give you an answer, but you must come to the Ararakian wastes to meet with them.
Feeling blitzed out of your mind, you agree that you could use a break from electrocuting yourself...

Hao sends Yasake with you, Jojo, and Marine to the Ararakian Wastes.

The land turns from tropic, slips through a land of storms, and plains before finally ending in long savannahs, and eventually sands that force the four of you to disembark from wagon with your supply.

The Araraki child leads you along with another that seems to be a guard. They don't talk too much, more content to silence in the company of Yasake. They answer questions when asked, but never really allow “engagement.”

Yasake refers to it as their blood being cold. But you're the one with cold blood, and it's stupidly hot in this desert with the sun beating on down...

You see desert-dwelling insects and the occasional monster burrowing through the sand in the distance. Little things creating sandtraps with colossal maws.

“If this one falls in, we can't help.” The guard says dryly, warning you and Marine against going any closer to the hole. The thing snaps at you and you're well on your way.

There are some other greater beasts, traversing the sands. Large winged monsters like the horned one you saw back outside the Ferryne island, and ones that mimic the dunes of sand. It's unnerving, yet the Araraki fire off those green energy orbs at will, when a few monsters take too much interest.

They make sure to miss, a warning shot for the monsters. It's enough for most of them as they go stomping off into the desiccated sands.

During the journey, you got to see an Araraki eat for the first time. As the rest of you dined upon hunted rodents baked in the desert sun, the Araraki slipped fresh pieces under their masks, biting into them and drinking only the fluids with a subtle violet-green glow.

Yasake explains, “Araraki are a most strange people. They only ever drink the life of their prey, leaving the flesh and bone unmolested.”

“It polite...” The Child whispers, turning away as she drinks from a sandshrew. You catch glimpse of long, blood-red fangs that are almost like thorns as she pulls it away from her maw, readjusting her mask. She lays the sandshrew down into the sand ritualistically, ensuring that it's completely buried.
Bringing her hands together as though to offer a prayer, she ends the ritual of dining.

The vampiric behavior is strange, but at least they're nice about it...

After many days of travel, you find yourself parched, on the verge of collapse and suffering heat stroke after exhausting yourself with cryokinesis, Marine not too far off either. Her blue skin showing flushes of red from the burn of the sun, bringiing out freckle-like discoloration in her cheeks.

Finally you make it to the oasis of the Araraki. Tall bending trees providing shade to a lone source of crystal clear water that sparkles with an absolute clarity. There are Araraki of many shapes, with their masks even more varied. However your reception is not a warm one.

The people here retreat their children back into homes made out of mud and clay, women and men alike stand defensively, staring you down, watching intently.

It's only after they're reassured that they begin to disregard your presence, yet they are still wary of Yasake's and Kurojo's. It seems you'll only have a short welcome here.
>>
Led to the Elder of this village, you're greeted by an older woman that peers at you harshly with the same pallid, shining eyes that the others have. “Greetings. We had heard of your visit some time ago...

As you begin to ponder how, you're answered, “Our runners are fast. Very fast... Would this one like tea?”

>Would you like tea?

>>
>>33608334

>>
>>33608334
sure.. sooo...whatcha stalling for?
>>
>>33608437
>>33608368
Well, at least it gives me time to imagine kurojo politely drinking his tea while marine and ceru have endless unquenchable thirsts.
>>
“Yes, please. Yes.” You say, exhausted and exasperated. You never quite realized how much water you normally drink. And at this point you'd drink anything even-

An Araraki comes in with a strange smelling pot, setting out cups with her tail, she pours a blood-red mixture that tickles your nostrils and makes you salivate. You realize that you really should be repulsed, however you feel very inclined to drink it without reservations.

“I-I'd just like some water please.” Marine requests, not finding whatever that “tea” is to be platable.

“Same here, one for Jojo as well.” Yasake says, eyes closed, and still composed. But you know how hard

“Please.” Jojo nods, his eye twitching at the sight of the red mix.

You're the only one that takes the cup and throws it back, setting it down with a lick of your lips. “More... please.” You're served seconds immediately, and that vanishes too.

The Araraki, and the guard are served the “tea” as well.

Yasake says idly as the others are served water that what you're drinking is Ararakian “Blood Tea” that's actually a tonic made by mixing the blood of various beasts fed strict diets and then milked for their blood and actual milk. Some Smolder like it, but most find it appalling.

You find it delicious, Marine and Kurojo cringe as you drink another cup, wiping away excess with your arm, blood and milk smearing across your face.

Kurojo dry-heaves.

“This one is interesting. Has the Lord calmed himself since we last sat together?” The Elder asks, with those desolate eyes.

You nod, energized and nearly purring, “Yeah, Hao's goo-

“Lord Hao.” Yasake corrects.

“Lord Hao.” You say, repeating.

“Lord Sparklebutt.” Marine says with a snicker.
You can feel Yasake's rage broil within like a brewing storm.

>>
>>33608776
I'm sure we've all tasted a little blood at least once in our life. So I can tell you that it tastes bad.

>>33608808
Unless you're part carnivore.

It seems like the Smolder would enjoy it, but most just find the concept disgusting. Like certain country specific delicacies, I guess. Like the Chinese eating dogs, I guess?
>>
>>33608834
>unless you're part carnivore
No. Not at all what I am talking about.

I am talking from a purely chemical hydration standpoint.

Unless the blood tea is much thinner than I'm imagining, it would be as refreshing to your thirst as super sugary hot cocoa. As in, not at all.
>>
>>33608834
blood tastes fine would not drink it all the time but if it was all I had I would lap it down
>>
>>33608859
We can eat meat raw and think it tastes good, so our palate is probably pretty different.
>>
“Well, we have heard that it is this one's wish to return to her homeland, and take the Smolder with her, yet to do that, she must kill a great beast?” The Elder sips at her own bloody drink, tail flicking about behind her as her eyes focus on no one in particular.

“Yes.” You nod. “If the Araraki want the Smolder gone, I'd like help with getting them to leave in peace. There's a lot of room in the land that I'm from, even if Kanto-City turns them away, they'll have plenty of other places to go.”

The Elder considers this for a moment, “Indeed. That would help us in restoring peace to these lands. With the Smolder gone, perhaps Serebyi will return then...”

“Can I count on your help then?”

“What if Smolder hurt Araraki. What will you do?”

>If the Smolder hurt the Araraki based on your actions... What's your response?
>>
>>33608741
Nah, this is like a "delicacy " from another culture that we actually think tastes good.

Just got to go with the flow.
>>
>>33608896

>>
>>33608910
Well, if there's a sizable portion of araki on the ship, we can help them defend themselves.
Everyone wants to find new lands outside the islands to go to. Everyone will help make the ship. I like to think everyone will use it.
>>
>>33608910
What can we do? Just leave them there or what? Like if one of the Vi-Smokhans uses the ships to attack anyone, (at this point a near given), what can we actually do? We would have long unleashed pandora's box upon this place.
>>
>>33608987
I think we're making just ONE ship, as it will require a giant nearly unkillable monster as its power supply.

Which means they gots to share it.
>>
>>33608910
Is she asking about the ship? Are we just asking them to help build the ship or are they going to help crew it?
>>
>>33609007
I sort of thought we'd get members of all the races crewing it, so no one race took over the boat.
>>
>>33609007
>Dem type advantages though.
Smolder beat Araraki handily, Kahkori lose to Araraki, and Smolders only lose to Kahkori when they have no Navy.

If the Smolder get rowdy on the ship, and are the ones that make the ship, then a mutiny would assure that the ship is theirs alone.
>>
>>33609186
Obviously, we should only have 1/3 of the crew be smolder.
Also have large portions constructed by araki. Specifically the vital generators.
>>
>>33608910
>>33609186
Is she worried about what the Smolder could do with the ship or the Araraki that may help go to work on the ship? Or, possibly, ones who'll be on the ship to help on the hunt? Although I thought we only asked them to help build it.
>>
>>33609254
She's worried about what the Smolder could do with it.
>>
>>33609288
Well, the smolder could get their hands on whatever type of ship we make. The only real deterrent to them stealing the ship is A. there's no real reason to if they get fair usage of it and B. not having enough of any one race on it to steal the ship for themselves.

Though, I've said this a few times now.

I mean, we have to have some system of them managing the boat for themselves. We won't be around to warden it forever, and probably couldn't even do that very well.
>>
>>33608910
>>33609288
Ah, I see.

Well, assuming that the boat would make a return trip back to the city, we could request that it be dismantled. But that's no guarantee, since arguments could be made for why the ship would be preserved. If it comes down to a vote, the Kahkori and Smolder may wish to keep the ship.

What we can do away from these islands is very limited. Definitely, if we could send help sooner or later (or even just a messenger from the Dome), that would put a stop to any in-fighting between the races.

There are things we could suggest that the races do to stop anyone from abusing the ship, but we can't really force anyone to follow it or account for all possible situations. It's pretty much just a leap of faith.

ANYWAY. What the Araraki is asking is not what we could do to stop the Smolder from hurting the Araraki. What she's asking is what we'd do if the Smolder DO hurt the Araraki. The answer is; there's nothing we CAN do. We'd be powerless. More than that, we'd be completely ignorant. The only thing we could do is accept the guilt of having caused their peoples (and I'm counting all the races; because, undoubtedly, they'd all be harmed) and, if we ever returned to meet them again, to apologize and ask for their forgiveness. Because, let's be realistic. We're not some important official in the Dome. What we can do to help their nations is too limited.
>>
We could design in some horrible structural weakness that is really easy to sabotage in a combat situation?

Like a deathstar vent.
>>
“If I can, I'll keep them from doing it, and make sure it doesn't happen...” You say, not following the scale of her question.

“No. What if Smolder war with the Araraki? They have done it before and it drove away Serebyi. We must worry if they do it again.”

“Well, there shouldn't be a reason for them to-”

“There is no reason to madness.” The Elder says with her pale eyes showing no emotion still, yet the tone of her voice shifts immensely, wary and threatened.

“I assure you.” Yasake begins speaking for you, “My Master will limit the number of Smolder allowed upon the ship. Should they turn to get out of hand there will be few enough to put down and away handily.”

“You are not one that asks.” The Elder says with a belligerent sound, and points to you, “This one asks for help. You say that you will pay in her place?”

Yasake goes cold, knowing of some hidden meaning in those words. “Assuredly, I cannot speak as such and neither can Lady White. You will need to speak to my lord.”

“We will do this then. If Lord Hao or Emperor say they pay for Smolder wrongs.” She waves her finger, tsking, and hissing as she speaks.

The rest of the meeting goes by far more pleasantly than that. You eventually ask about the green energy that The Child's thrown in the past and you are shown a demonstration, expressing your interest in learning.

They teach you, though it takes you more than a week to get down the basics, you realize that you can gather and fire the energy with your hands, though it is incredibly exhausting.
You learn that masters can control the size, shape, and even store the energy away.

It puts things into perspective, but you can use the ability.

>Energy Ball Acquired!
>>
>>33609682

>>
During training, you witnessed other Araraki using some amazing techniques where they were shrouded in petals and thrashing their way through stone targets, or launching multicolored petals of energy that moved on their own Though you and Marine were fascinated by these techniques, you had very little confidence at all that you could learn them.

In training here, Marine did teach herself a new move while you worked on Energy Ball. By firing a compressed sphere of mud, she found that she could cause it to explode, impacting an enemy and slathering them in mud. It may work well against the monster you're going to hunt.

>Marine acquired Mud Bomb!

Kurojo was no slouch either. He's enhanced his technique under Yasake's supervision, teaching himself to launch concentrated Aura tethered to a target.

Puzzling over whether to go for a swim or not, you shed the lightly patterned clothes you've been wearing for the trip, clad now only in your black and dark silver armor... You've been wearing it like underwear lately because that's all it really looks like at this point.

The organic links do well enough for defending against sharp things though, so there's that.

Slipping into the water, you swoon a bit as it wets your fur, allowing you to feel at home again. You dive, and open your eyes, second covers flicking automatically as your ears fold down and your nose plugs itself.

Drawing your hands to your sides, the flippers long gone at this point, you spread the webbing of your toes and use your tail as a paddle to oscillate through the water in powerful strokes.

The water's clear and cooler than you'd expect. Perhaps it's fed by an underground spring?

Feeling adventurous, you go deeper, taking your first breath with your gills, letting the exhalation take place through your mouth.
Increasing speed, you wrap yourself in a personal current and jet around.

Running out of steam from your exhaustion, you eventually lay upon your back and let yourself float back up to the top, closing your eyes to let yourself drift.

You think about things, home for one. You still haven't entirely resolved what you'll do. You aren't sure if you trust boss. Your story sounds crazy anyway. Everything that you've learned and all the people that you've met.

You still remember the day that you washed up here. Scared, alone, and just wanting to go home...

You feel yourself breach the surface, taking a deep breath of fresh air. You open your eyes and stare at the moon in the sky.

Undisturbed by a glass ceiling. You think you kind of get it. Why Marine doesn't want to go back.
Wouldn't that wall just feel so... Stifling?

I voted for it, yeah. I didn't change my vote, though, when Prof said the Araraki swam because I saw no reason to change it.
>>
>waiting 40ish mins for a redo post that says Ceru goes to bed.

I'd rather just roll with this tbqh, both seem inconsequential in the large scheme of things
>>
>>33611042
That doesn't really change what was voted for, though. It's annoying to have Prof disregard it for no reason at all.
>>
>>33611107
Then just have us skip whatever this is and continue on with something else. That's an equally viable path.
>>
>>33611109
Probably just went with the one that was more fun and had a moderate following.

>>
>>33611165
Presumably so that we can skip whatever trouble swimming would bring.
>>
>>33611141
No matter how you want to phrase the situation, Prof is in the wrong here.

>>
>>33611165
Because to me it was the choice to "continue" on with our training montage.
>>
>>33611206

>>
>>33610932
It IS annoying that you ignored the votes. Why?

>>33611141

>>33609964
These posts came a bit too late after everyone else had posted. But even discounting them, returning to the tent still won out.
>>
>>33611246
And? What are your 'samefag' votes? The ones you arbitrarily decide are samefags? There were people who voted not to go swim because they didn't want to go through a hassle. You can't ignore that. In any case, I did suspect samefagging too, but returning to the tent still won even after considering the obvious suspects.
>>
>>33611335

That's the entire point.
>>
>>33611360
Uh, read the rest of the post.
>>
>>33611382
the rest of the post ignores the rest of the post it responded to, actively advocating weighting towards more fun/lighter choices.
>>
>>33611415
>There were people who voted not to go swim because they didn't want to go through a hassle.
And if that vote won, then more people decided they didn't want anything to do with that "fun/lighter choice".
>>
>>33611451
but some anons voted for tent because they thought swimming was a trap option.
>>
>>33611451
Yeah, I prefer voting systems where sheer majority rule isn't the most important thing. I prefer for them to be actively weighted according to character preference, narrative convenience, and enjoyability.

Pure majority is just asking for samefags.

“Hello? Is anyone out there?” You make sure to speak in Raguna. This couldn't be Marine pulling some stupid joke after all, could it?

You hear the breeze sweep across the the distant sands, rustling through the trees and you hear something, a swift and slight, out of place sound that your ears twitch to adjust and fine-tune thenselves to listen more clearly.

You begin to call out, until you hear a second sound even closer and a flash of green smashing into your body as you turn around.

Being hit by the energy is more painful than you'd expect, every cell of your being screaming out in agony as it throws you back. You expect to hit water, yet instead you feel something begin to bounce you back, only to wrap around and seal away your arms and legs.

The last thing you see is something flickering from the corner of your eyes and a piece of leather forced into your mouth.

This is the kind of issue which actually pisses people off, anon. It doesn't matter if it's "fun" or "light". People didn't want it. It's like the same reason why people are annoyed at the prospect of having a love interest forced onto them without any say. It's an issue on the same line of thinking.

If this is such an insignificant choice, then there's no problem in Prof skipping it completely. If it's some kind of important story plot on which everything hanged on, he's railroading. If he wanted us to take a swim, he should have never given the choice in the first place.

You thrash out with all the strength your body can muster after being hit, your body throbs, yet summons up enough strength to thrash, flail, and even summon up a deeply chilling air to harry your abductors.

Your tail has the most mobility after restraint, and you feel it pass through something, meeting resistance, you hear the wet splash of something drop into the sands, the hiss of something, someone in pain.

You feel fangs sink into your shoulder even as your fur frosts over, drinking in your vital energies and weakening you.

Yet you make a mistake when you bite down upon the leather. Your mouth instantly starts to go numb and slack, even as your assailant robs you of your strength, the poison accelerates the process.

Your struggle causes you to rapidly fade out of consciousness...

There's green. A forest floor, littered with flowers of all sorts of shapes and sizes, glowing green from all around you. It's kind of peaceful here, even if your neck does hurt a bit.

You look up, and a raindrop falls on your eyelash. A gentle gray cloud looming overhead with the sun peeking through in warm, bright beams.

Shaking it away, you hear a voice small and alien calling out to you. Walking through the brush and flowers, taking in the smells of the loamy, fertile earth you find a clearing in which a lone strand of sunlight, like the hair of an angel falls onto a small girl of forest-green hair and blue eyes. Tiny wings sparkle upon her back, and she looks to you, smiling.

“Hello.” She gives a small wave, curling her fingers at the end. Her mouth didn't move.
Crossing her legs, she looks down, and then back up to you.

“Please forgive them...” She looks melancholy, yet you don't exactly understand why...

You wake up to a sharp pain stabbing through your forearm and you scream, coming awake, and finding yourself suspended by a bone protruding from your arm. The culprit of this, driving a second one in the other, your water begins to leak out of your guns, and you shudder through the damage, freezing it to stop the bleeding.

Before you are five Araraki wearing masks of black with robes the same color. Their eyes glow like the elders, empty and abandoned of emotion. As you feel them through aura, you shudder at the sight of their spirits.

They are like darkness incarnate, malice and bloodlust, completely unlike the others that are either empty or always trying for peace. You don't have the ability to touch your mind with theirs, yet you understand at once. They are murderers.

“It is awake. The meat is awake.” One of them whispers in Raguna tongue.

A hiss, and then a chorus as they clamber around you. Fear is your first reaction, and they seem to drink it in, a violent chatter between the others.

“Yes. Yes... Shhh... Shhhh...” One touches your face as you begin to cry, “No tears. You will be sleeping again soon. A deep, deep, deep sleep.”

You whimper, and feel yourself begin to slip. The thing continues to hush you and pet your hair.
Biting at the leather, you take in shuddering breaths as the panic rises within you. This thing is making your skin crawl.

Tired and desperate you inhale deeply despite the leather to prepare your frost breath. As it comes back up, you stare into the desolate eyes of these monsters and release it, yet it comes up as a hacking cough, further muffled by the leather as it's chilled.

The thing laughs, sardonically, and the others gather around you, forcing you still as another sinks its fangs into you, drinking deeply and causing an uncomfortably numbing chill to travel through your body.

“Shhh... Hush now, hush.... Death is too soon for you.” The thing whispers as your world begins to wobble and distort. “This is a dream for you... A dream... A nightmare... Shhh.... Shhh...” The lizard's words sink into you as you feel your lifeblood drip out with every heartbeat to feed the parasite that's attached to you.

“You will relive it with every slumber. With every shadow that rests just beyond your vision. Now, sleep...”

Everything goes dark. You feel your blood drip out, little by little in the darkness as you hang there, unaware of anything else, of anyone else.

You're alone, and on the verge of death, slowly slipping closer and closer to the borderline as something else becomes all the more visible amidst the blackness of your vision.

A large spectre, bleak and robust stares down upon you with a single red eye shimmering with a guiding red light.

It says nothing, does nothing, it simply watches you, and waits.

Waits for you to ripen like a fruit. When your soul is ready to be plucked.

Yet the dripping stops, and you hang their, barely alive and just almost dead.

In your state, you try to put together some prayer to arceus, or maybe that one that Lilac mentioned would be more appropriate?
>>
A green light appears between the two of you. The monster's eye fixates on the light for a moment, and then vanishes, fading out of existence.

Staring into the light, no words come to you, let alone out.

“Please forgive them. They know not that they commit a grave error in their time. It is only from the future that they come to regret killing you. They spend the rest of their days after realizing this praying for their own salvation. Only when the last one of them expire did their dying thought wish instead for you to be saved.

So here I intervene. You will be aided soon. Please stay strong, and please forgive them. Please.”

The light vanishes, and you wait in the darkness between lives... You aren't quite sure how long you wait...

You hear a crackling explosion and your vision returns, the Araraki Child, standing before you and your assailants, the residual energy revealing that you're in a cavern of some sort. Out of the way and out of mind of the village. It's still night and it quickly fades to dark again as the energy dissipates.

The Araraki Child yells at your captors, yet the single soul that she is does little to dissuade them as they encircle her.

Why did she come alone? You strain weakly against your restraint, feeling only pain as the bone grinds through your arms. No good...

You don't understand what they're saying, but The Child gets fed up with talking and flicks open her claws, an energy orb already crackling at full power. The others laugh, hissing and sniping as they gather a different kind of power, that twists and bends away the shadows until there's a very similar orb in each of their own claws.

With no time for threats, the child flings her green light at the bulk of them, spinning her glaive to smash one of the shadow balls to the ground, erupting in an explosion of pitch black power.

With a flourish, she sends out a flurry of glowing colored leaves to slice into the others, forcing a premature loss of form and energy, causing more shadows to erupt.

Without any time to reduce her pace, she closes in in one, warping the air and her free claw as the staff lay across her back, and smashes her own dark power into one of the murderers.

The others are stunned for a moment, yet that moment passes in an anstant as she lashes out with another shadow ball of her own, countered by another and forcing a mutual, chaotic clash that shakes the walls of the cavern. Stalactites falling dangerously upon everyone's heads. The black things rush for cover, while the child runs for you, holding her staff overhead to defend her head from the falling stones.

In her rush, she's blindsided by claws of shadow reaching up out of the ground, to slash her leg.
Falling forward, she skids across the ground in a chaotic roll, stopping only with the blade of her staff. Lashing out with a hand, the shadows ripple and a blob of darkness slips up from behind the one that assailed her, locking it int a strangehold with a staff of shadows.

Propping herself up with her staff, she begins to run, only to find that her leg can't bear any weight.

The cave in ends and she's surrounded again. Leaning upon her staff as a crutch, she flicks her vision around at her foes to determine her options.

Distracting these guys might help give the Araraki an opening and, with any luck, Marine, Jojo, and Yasake can hear us. So BEFORE we attack, SHOUT for help first. If they turn to look at us, fire an Icicle Gun at the one closest to the Araraki.

No, it's true. It's the same issue with the enemies, even. Prof doesn't really know how to pace fights very well or actually show progress between states. It's a straight path from being at full health to hitting 0 HP.
>>
>>33613998
Well there isn't very much wrong with that, considering the high lethality. The bigger problem is working out how stamina works, when other characters are just assumed to always be fine until plot demands otherwise.

I mean, Nargas aren't the easiest to tire out, but they do run out of stamina during the average engagement.
>>
>>33613998

You stupid. You so stupid. You realize that prof's always angled for realism, right? You live until you fuck up extra bad.
Then you get got by what didn't fuck up.
>>
>>33614130
Those were the worst, but not the only offenses. It's been the same in every engagement. And no, I'm not talking about stamina here. I'm talking about the 'state'. They don't have any visible damage on them, but then they're taken out in one hit. That's horrible and Prof has never tried to change or improve at all. All his battles in all his quests progress through caveats. They're completely unsatisfying to read.

This isn't even anything new. The same complaints came up since last year too, here in the threads and in the QTGs.
>>
>>33614221
>You realize that prof's always angled for realism
Which makes it worse since he's not that good at it. Which I just explained in the post you quoted.

hmm, you have a point there. Damage to Ceru is carefully noted and players work around them, but I don't think I've ever seen damage for enemies affecting them other than how they look.

No, hangon, there was that feralligator. Was that not good enough? Or was the problem that we've never seen a disabled opponent that wasn't immediately killed in the next post?
>>
Moving, you begin to struggle. “Help... “ You croak... No, that's not good enough...
“HELP!” You scream, startling the assailant Khakori.

The Araraki child freezes up in the same moment they do. When one rushes for her you shout, and she brings her staff around, the blade cutting the black thing deep, yet the reflexive attack and injured leg forces her to fall to the ground, stopped ad supported only by her staff.

The black thing slips away as a shadow, huffing and heaving as its blood spills onto the floor of the cave. They begin speaking amongst themselves with the moment reprieve. You release a rising snarl that draws their attention again, as you thrash against the bone, inching it out of the stone, giving them cause for pause.

The Araraki Child breaths heavily, lingering inches from the ground. She looks up to you, her flower-like irises shining with a ghastly green light.

The shadow binding one of the foes dissipates, and she props herself up slouching heavily.

The black things surround her, shadow balls ready to decimate her for the injury to their comrade.

Yet, you don't sense a hint of terror from the girl. Instead, she looks at you. At that, you launch a flurry of icicles from your maw at the ones nearest to her. The crystalline bullet takes them right in assumed vitals. They gave you too much time to aim.

One twitches to dodge, and launches the shadow ball at the Araraki, with a twist, she narrowly avoids it while using her staff to pivot, she digs down with her good foot and slashes the last black thing with the reach of her glaive, coming back across with a smash of the back end to smash the mask of the foe and ensure its demise.
>>
With one last look to you, the Araraki takes a knee, nursing her injured leg with a green glow. “We sorry... We do you next.”

She eventually finishes healing and stabs the corpses of the black Araraki. One thrashes, she stabs that one again. After that is when she takes you down.
You ask questions, but she's quiet for the most part.

“We sorry,”she says. “We sorry.” Is her only response.

No, Feralgatr/Ordile fight was good. That's the kind of stuff I want to see, in terms of showing "progress".

>Or was the problem that we've never seen a disabled opponent that wasn't immediately killed in the next post?
Not as relevant to what I was saying, but an issue as well. There's nothing wrong with catching an opponent in an especially compromising position, but Prof overuses that and the 'stuns' aren't even that great. They feel utterly underwhelming. For a proper action fight, they should feel like a miracle (done with the Nar-kage fight) or a culmination of actions stacked up on top of each other (which Prof can't do).

>That's the kind of stuff I want to see
To add on to this, it's not enough to just say "Oh, it got hurt". That's lazy writing. You actually have to bother DESCRIBING it. You know. With words. Because that's the whole point of describing an action scene as it happens. Otherwise it's as exciting as an old 2D RPG game (like Final Fantasy) where the only option is attack under different names.
>>
>>33614624
might want to not use FF in that see how they were pretty dam exciting as were most 2D RPG's
>>
>>33614683
I was using Final Fantasy to give an example for the interface. You know what the interface looks like, right? You've actually seen old Final Fantasy games? Then I added
>where the only option is attack under different names.
To actually complete the thought. Do you actually understand it now?
>>
>>33614683
Let's not argue about that and miss the point.

>>33614624
It IS true that health is pretty binary. Unfortunately, the general player choice and Prof's preference tends to skip "fair" engagements and go for stupidly reckless battles.

On the player side, the final vote just keeps ending up picking the most dangerous route.

On Ygg's side, we either have an overwhelming advantage, or the circumstances prevent us from knowing the environment and observing the enemy.
>>
“How did you know to come here?” That question stiffens her spine, causing her to halt in the cool sands of the night.

She bows her head for a moment, delaying her automatic response. “We sorry.”

“I had a vision.” You say, and it ends her attempt to keep moving.

She's silent, her eyes looking here and there before finally finding you. She gingerly touches the spine of her glaive, the blood drying quickly from the parched atmosphere.
“We had vision... too. Ran fast... Serebyii.”

“I... think I saw her too.” You tiredly limp up to the lizard's side. You touch the staff. The very tool that ended lives and saved yours. “She was beautiful...

The Araraki child nods at that,”Yes.” She whispers under the pallid moon that shines down, directing a sea of stars.

“And timid, kind of like you...” You laugh at that. You need to laugh. It's good to laugh. You grab her robes, a fistful of loose leathers, and plant your face against her. That's when you cry. There was nothing you could do when faced with a foe like that. Intelligent, in numbers, and worst of all, human.

She stiffens when you start, but instead of pushing you away, she holds you gently so that you can let it out. You're not going to want to be alone at night.

After you're done and you near the village, you tell her that you forgive her, and minding the request of Serebyi, you choose not to tell Yasake about the black Araraki. The girl does promise to tell the elder of this village in private.

Before the two of you split, she says something to you. “Seralana. No tell others, please.”
>>
Wrapping your arms around her, you thank her again. She doesn't speak of who those Araraki were. But you do have a good feeling that the village will be on watch for ones like that.

You never questioned why she had abilities similar to the bad ones either. None of the other Araraki ever practiced moves like that.

You leave the village after a few days of recovery, sticking to the claim that you're tired from training. Yasake doesn't bother to call you out, though he does watch your health closely.

That's actually been gone over.
>Prof's preference tends to skip "fair" engagements and go for stupidly reckless battles.
Prof stated he would write 'fair' battles before. He's still incapable of this. How can he improve? He should actually start listening to advice and apply them.

That's a separate issue from Prof's ability to WRITE the fights, though. I already highlighted the things he should improve on.

>On the player side, the final vote just keeps ending up picking the most dangerous route.
People argue over why it works. I've seen it. There's actual logic behind the actions, no matter what your personal feelings are on the matter. The fact of the matter is, though, it's completely useless to talk about "what would work" since it's just a hypothetical. If there's no roll, it's completely lorded over by QM fiat, so you have to just leave it at that.

>On Ygg's side, we either have an overwhelming advantage
Overwhelming advantages make for boring fights. They're only actually interesting for showing off how well characters work with each other. They should only be used as 'performances' to showcase abilities.

>or the circumstances prevent us from knowing the environment and observing the enemy.
Discussed back at the Nargakage fight (Prof being poor at clues and puzzles). Also brought up back during the fight with the Qurapeca and in the Q&A thread (for the lack of clues and puzzles). This is what I meant by

No, I get that. I voted to take the Plesioth head on and all that. From my perspective, it seems that I use too much MonHun logic and Prof doesn't. Should I stop? Probably, but so far, I'm better off just not voting with how my perception of the situation differs from Prof's.

I'd imagine that familial vengeance isn't practiced as often if duels are commonplace enough to warrant becoming ritualistic.

Less mouths to feed.

And the point of the duel was to settle the conflict and to stop it from escalating, from Akabaron's descriptions of the practice.

As a heads-up, my aide and I aren't finished with our work on the setting yet. So expect to wait at least several weeks before we're ready to run our first thread.

But I do like how Silver's turning out for Johto Version.

Will you fight him?

Or will you join him in 'getting a field graft' as you lure that snooty rich ranger in your squad away from the senior in charge?
