The king continues to stare at you. He probably couldn't comprehend that this body you inhabit, the body of Ambrosis the level 40 cleric, is not your real body. You are actually Anthony Grant, computer science major stuck in a game world; or rather, the setting of the game.

You are not completely sure how to respond to his question. That play was certainly as far from accurate as possible, but perhaps telling him that wouldn't be the best answer.

“That play was fantastic!” You say, “And it wove a story as good as the truth!” Then a strange thought stirs in you, one you cannot help but entertain. “However your highness, the truth behind the adventurers is that we come from another world! A world where fire and lightning drive mighty machines of steel!”

“Like your Roe?” The king interrupts.

“Y-yes.” You say, stumbling to try and keep your thoughts straight. Where were you going with this again?

“Continue.” The king commands after a while.

“Uhh... In... In our world we fight with a power so great that we are in constant fear not of the death of us, but of the destruction of the entire world! Imagine, if you will, a world where the leaders of the world could at any point in time kill everyone! Literally everyone! There would be no person left! That is the power we are capable of!”

The king looks a bit confused, but also very curious.

You continue. “Of course, we only got that power in the first place to try and fight the Nazis.”

“Naz'ees?” The king inquires.
>>
>>33588156
“Yes! The Naz'ees! A horrible army of darkness made up of corrupted people bent on total destruction! But with our brilliant insight we were able to make a … spell! We were able to make a spell that could destroy entire cities in the blink of an eye! And with it we won the war, but then us and the second biggest country, the … The Ruski! We both entered into a very dark time. During those times you were either with Us or the Ruski and, to make matters worse, they also found the power to destroy cities with the push of a button! So we both began trying to make more and more powerful bo- spells! Soon our leader or the leader of the Ruski could end the entire world and because of that neither attacked the other for fear that the other would destroy everything!”

“So, in this world you come from...” The king tries to piece together the tale, “Your kings wield so much power that, at any moment, a single one could end the world?”

“Not every leader, just the important ones.” You explain, “Oh, and they aren't kings.”

“Your leaders are not kings?”

“Yes, because the mighty power of America demands that we spread freedom to everywhere! That is why we came to this world in the first place! To push back the darkness and liberate everyone!”

Aubron leans back in his chair and stares at you. He stares and stares until he finally says, “So, unless I am mistaken in what you are saying, you came from a world where everyone could be killed by your leader buttoning up his shirt, a world where there are only two kingdoms which are in a war with no fighting, and this specific world also has no kings.”

“That's not exactly-”

“I must admit, I am somewhat impressed by your bold nature to outright lie to a king, but did you really expect me to believe in a land with no kings?” He starts to laugh, “Tell me, in this fantastical world of yours, who keeps the serfs in check? A council of freemen?”
>>
>>33588168
“We don't have serfs.” You respond.

The king falls out of his chair laughing. “Please! Stop! A man! Can only take! So much hilarity!”

You do not find things as hilarious as him.

When his laughter finally dies down he comments, “I must admit, your tales are filled with far more absurdity than Goodfellow's.” The king returns to his chair. “Not that I mind such a humor. Perhaps you should join me as my jester.”

You shake your head. “No thank you.”

“THEN GET YOURSELVES FORTHWITH FROM MY HOME!” The king's voice booms and echoes. “I HAVE NO MORE NEED OF YOU!”

You want to slap the bald man, but part of you finds such an action would probably prove to have horrible consequences, so you decide it best to just gather your party before getting out of here. You walk through the hallways decorated with gold and large windows and portraits of kings past. You select open up your friend list and call Tabula.

“Nah.” You respond, “Keep it here. I don't trust this king to not try something.”

“You sure?” Tabula asks.

“Yeah. Last thing we need is for this guy to get a tank to play with. He'd probably try to conquer the world with it or something.”

“Alright. We'll be waiting for you.”

You hang up the call and walk into the dining hall. Judicature is sitting on the floor, moving her hand across the stone over and over again, Trove and Canis are dancing and singing on the table. LastDerogation is stabbing his scarf with a steak knife, and Lilac is slapping the walls while muttering to herself.

You let out a sign, knowing this won't be easy. “Okay, everyone!” You announce, “We're leaving!”

“God damn them all!” Trove and Canis continue to sing, “I was told we'd sail the seas for American gold!”

Judi crawls over to you. “Are you a fairy?” She asks as she begins to rub her hands on your robes again.

“No.” You respond, “But you need to follow me so we can leave.”

“But if you leave, you'll never get to drink tea with the fairies!”

“You're not going to make the easy, are you?”

“You feel soft.”

You sigh and start walking towards Lilac. Certainly she knows what to do.

She slaps the walls around her and mumbles, “Where's the door!?”

“Trying to leave?” You ask her. “Because I can lead you out.”

“I can't trust you.” She responds, “You might be you, but you also might be me thinking about you, and if you aren't you, I can't afford to get lost thinking I'm moving when I'm not.”

“Well, I'm the real me, so I'm just going to lead you outside.” You explain.

“But I can't know you're the real you!” She says, “The not-you you would say he was the real you!”

“Uhuh...” You reply as you grab her by the wrist and start pulling her off.

“No! Stop it! Now I don't know where I am!”

“Uhuh...” Is all you have to say on the subject. Maybe the effect will end if she leaves the castle. That's how these quests work, right? If you get too far away it'll just end the crazy effects. Makes sense from a game design perspective: If someone teleports back to town to do something you don't want to keep screwing with them, especially if they teleport who knows how far away. People have things to do. Like start a guild. SHIT! You keep forgetting to do that! You really need to remember to go and do that soon.

Suddenly Lilac becomes much heavier. You look back to see Judi grasping onto the dwarf's tiny legs.

“You're my favorite fairy!” The duelist says.

“Get off me!” The sorceress protests, “Let go!”

“But we need to have a tea party!”

“No! I'm not falling for that again!”

You compensate for the weight change and begin dragging both Lilac and Judicature out of the room, step by step.

“Teeeeeeeeeea!” The blond complains as you drag her across the floor.

Must they make everything difficult? “We're going to the tea party.” You say, “So get off the floor and come with me.”

All Judi responds with is, “I found shoes!”

You feel the sudden decrease in weight and you look back to confirm. Lilac's shoes had come off and Judi was now holding them, staring at the shoes with goofy smile on her face. You made a mental note to hate this place forever.

“Where am I!?” Lilac shouts.

You let out a sigh. Dragging and pulling was not working, so you simply heft Lilac over your shoulder and just carry her off.
>>
>>33590983
“Oh shit!” Lilac shouts before mumbling, “Did I fall over? Hello? OH GOD I MUST BE FALLING!” She wiggles about and kicks you a couple of times in the head, trying to accomplish whatever it was she was trying to accomplish.

You push open the doors to the castle and slowly make your way out of the castle and towards the cart.

The guard at his post gives you an unenthusiastic, “Thank you for coming to his majesty's castle. Please retrieve your belongings before leaving the area.”

Lilac stops struggling and after a couple of seconds she asks, “Is this real?”

“Depends.” You reply, “Do you see yourself outside the castle and being carried by me?”

“Yes?”

“Then, yes, this is real.”

“Okay.”

You place her onto the grass just in front of the cart. She looks down to her feet, then back to you. “Where'd my shoes go?”

“Judi took them.”

“Why!?”

“For her tea party, I assume.”

Lilac looks quite confused by your statement.

You shrug, “I don't know either.” You turn to look at the castle. “You should probably stay here in case the effect comes back if you go back in. Quests work like that, don't they?”

“Probably.”

You shrug, “Good enough for me.” You head back into the castle, through the hallway, and back into the dining hall. You look at all the party members you still need to corral. Judicature was playing with Lilac's shoes, Canis and Trove were still dancing on the table, and the <49erS> was currently trying to set his scarf on fire with a torch. This will take a while.

“Alright, Judi.” You say, heading the the wide eyed girl, “We gotta go. Tea party's outside.”

“They're so fluffy!” She says putting her hands into the shoes.

“Yes, I see that.” You respond, “Now get up or else I'm going to carry you out.”

She begins to rub her face on the boots. “They're like shoes, but for my hands...”

“Carrying you it is.” You say, scooping up the duelist.

“Oh man...” She says, “In German that would have been an amazing pun. Cause they call gloves hand-shoes. Did you know that?”

“Nope.” You respond.

“Hey, hey...” She continues, “Did you know that in Ben-Hur, the director told the guy playing Messala that he and Judah were lovers, but then told the guy who played Judah that he and Messala were just best friends?”

“I've never seen Ben-Hur.” You say, walking into the hallway.

“What!? How could you have not seen Ben-Hur! That's like not seeing Casablanca or The Maltese Falcon or A Night at the Opera!”

“I've never saw any of those.”

“What!? You're the worst fairy ever!” She begins to struggle, “I don't want to go to your tea party!”

“Stop moving around!”

“But the santity clause! The saaaaanitity claaaaaaaaause!”

“I have no idea what you're talking about!” You push through the gate and head off to the grassy knoll you parked that cart on.
>>

“Wait... Ambrosis!?”

You put her down. “Yup.”

Her face goes red and she begins to babble nervously, not using any real words. “Ah, um, bluh, ugh, wha, uh...”

You point to her hand-shoes. “I think Lilac needs those.”

She looks down to the shoes, then to Lilac.

You turn around and start heading back to the castle. You hear Judicature apologizing to Lilac repeatedly before you make it back inside.

Once back to the dining area you quickly spot Derogation standing over a burning scarf, cackling and yelling, “None can best me in unarmed combat!”

That is when a certain group of animal-headed people who up to forcibly escort the remaining Adventurers out of the castle, you included.

After getting everyone's equipment back and regrouping at the cart the <49erS> leader asks, “So, what did he want? A trade agreement? An alliance? Technology?”

“He wanted ton be a crazy king doing crazy things.” You reply.

“What? What do you mean?” The druid asks.

“I mean, okay. He showed me a play about the end of the competition. I mean, they got just about everything wrong. They said that Adventurers worship a god called Merika, and that we need to compete with each other or else we die permanently, and Tabula and Trove were the same person, I think? Oh, and Lilac and Judi died for good, but then I prayed to Merika and they came back to life or something. Oh, and Aideen and Canis weren't even there. It was really weird. I think they confused Coyote with Merika.”

The entire cart gives you strange looks.

“That's all?” The <49erS> asks, “He just wanted to show you a play?”

“Well, he also wanted to know if the play was accurate or not.” You say, “I said it was just as good as the truth, and then started telling him about the real world, which he didn't even believe was possible and then he started laughing cause he thought I was joking.” You think back on the events. “Then after that he just told me to up and leave. That is pretty much what happened.”

The group goes silent, most likely mulling over the information you just gave them.

“We have to compete with each other?” Lilac asks.

“Yeah.” You respond, “Oh, and if you lose competitions too many times you die anyways?”

“That makes sense in a way.” Lilac says, “Not really, but kinda. I mean, what are the main reasons people leave an MMO? Feeling bored because you have nothing to challenge you anymore or feeling useless because everything is too hard. From their perspective that might be what happens?”
>>
>>33593250
You shrug. “Maybe. Or he's just crazy. That seems more likely.”

“Yarr!” Trove interrupts, “I say we never go back!”

You nod, “I agree! Fuck that place. Would it be wrong to just destroy the entire thing?”

The <49erS> says, “I'm pretty sure that would get the Royal Guards to murder us all.”

Canis adds, “If we say 'Worth it' before they kill us, that makes it worth it! That's just science.”

You nod in agreement to your friend's keen, scientific insight. “I agree.”

The conversation soon changes to just small talk and jokes. This continues on until you get back to the BRO, which is in perfect condition. After much explanations and queries from Tabula, the party rides back to Boulder, just in time for sun down.

A couple of songs are sung and a few more drinks are drank before everyone decides to go to bed, but before you do, you get a call from none other than your brother.

“Hello?” You ask.

“Hey!” He says, somewhat overly excited, the special tone he used when he wasn't sure if he was doing the right thing.

“What's wrong?” You ask.

“So, I'm looking at this fork in the road and I can't help but wonder that maybe waiting for you in Brotherhood is the best idea.”

“Are you saying you're going back to Big Apple!?”

“NO!” He quickly responds, “What I'm saying is... Maybe just sitting in an inn for a month waiting for you or King to get here or isn't the right thing to do. I mean, it'll be who knows how long till the guild can expand to the next town over, so maybe I can just start heading for you and we can meet smack dab in the middle of the Frontier or something and after that we can both head for Brotherhood or something.”

“Who said I pissed off anyone!?”

“I did. Now who did you piss off?”

“I didn't... Okay. Well, I didn't mean to... Okay. I...” He starts grumbling and mumbling before he takes in a deep breath. “Okay, so, there I was, in one of the small towns, where I saw all these Adventurers playing football, but with their abilities. So kinda like Blood Bowl, really. Anyways, so there we are, playing the game, when I think, 'Ah ha! I'll just use my knockback on the ball to send if flying!' Well, I sent it flying a bit too hard. Yadda yadda yadda, the village is on fire.”

“I feel like you're skipping over the important part of that story.”

“Okay, well, the ball isn't really a ball as much as it's a stone carved into the shape of a football, cause, you know, if it was a normal ball we'd just crush it.”

“Pretty sure that's not the part I was talking about.”

“Okay! Fine! The ball blew a hole into the town hall, knocked over a lantern and lit the place on fire. So, I thought, 'I know, I'll just blow out the fire with my abilities!'”

“God damn it, Zachery.”

“Don't you 'God damn it, Zachery' me! It was a good idea at the time!” He pauses. “So, as I was saying, I use Kick of the East Wind to try and blow out the fire, but it just kinda fed the flames... and sent flaming bits onto other houses. So I thought I could fix it with-”

“Yeah, just... just head on over.” You say, “And just WALK! Don't talk to anyone, don't touch anything, don't do ANYTHING that isn't walking here or sleeping!”

“Okay, okay! Yeesh!” He says, “I'm not an idiot, you know.”

You remain silent, knowing any comment you could give would just spark a shouting match.

“Oh!” He shouts, “So, I have a present for you! You haven't had food with taste yet, right?”

“Uhhh... no...?”

“Good! Cause I got a New York style pizza with your name on it! I hope it keeps in my inventory.”

Your mouth waters at the idea of food with taste. Pizza no less! God damn your brother can't get here quick enough. “So how long do you think it will take you to get here?”

“Well, I've been heading for you for about two days now, so I'll hit the Frontier in a three days, maybe?”

“Wait. What!? How long ago did you burn down that village!?”

“Umm... Well, you know that night you called me?”

“Yeah...?”

“The morning after that night.”

You don't think you could possibly face palm hard enough, but you are certainly trying. “So you're only telling me now because?”

“Because you could have told me no if I asked.”

“Oh. Of course. BECAUSE THAT MAKES PERFECT SENSE!”

“It does make sense!”

“I..! You know what? Forget it. Just get here with that pizza.”

“Okay...”

You sigh. “Look, just... just stay safe, okay? I don't want to hear about how you got ganked in the middle of the Frontier and now you're suddenly all the way on the east coast again.”

“I'm a monk decked out in raiding gear. Unless I get ganked by a top tier guild like <Last Valley> or <BEES> or something, I doubt anyone's going to bring me down faster than I can run away.”

“You just have to jinx yourself like that, don't you?”

“Pffft! I'll be fine!”

You sigh. “Okay. Fine. But if you're not fine, I'm going to kill you. Understand? You not fine equals me killing you.”
>>
>>33596168
“I get it, I get it!”

“Okay. Stay safe.”

“You too.”
You hang up and dive into your bed. You relax and let your mind go blank. You slowly fall into a deep and comfortable sleep. Such a strange dream you have. A dream about masks and people wearing them. Masked figures swapping out masks and names.

You jump awake. The hell is going on!? It's still the middle of the night! What the hell could Lilac now!?

You shout, “What the he-!?”

“Ambrosis!” Lilac yells, “Get back to the dining hall already!”

“What!?”

“I.. I know you need to talk to the king, but I'm going insane here! I had an entire delusion that we went back to Boulder and everything! I know it's important, but I can't tell what's real anymore and I can't find the door! I need to get out of here! I can't tell what's real and I don't think I can take it anymore! Please! Just-”

“What are you talking about!? We DID go to Boulder! You went to your shop to go to sleep!”

She lets out a yell of frustration, “You're not real! Damn it! If someone can hear me, someone call Ambrosis! I'm stuck in a cupboard or closet or something, aren't I? Okay. Okay. I need to calm down. Just calm down.” You hear her take in some deep breaths.

“I'm just going to go to your shop and slap you till you realize I'm real.”

“Alright. Open friend list. Select Ambrosis. Hit call button. Wait a couple seconds aaaaand... Hey, Ambrosis, I know you're talking to the king, but I really, desperately need you to come get me out of here. I'm starting to freak out because I don't know what's real anymore.”

“Still me. I'm still the real Ambrosis and you still are in your shop.” You head down stairs, out into the streets, and towards Lilac's shop.
>>
>>33596192
“Okay, Ambrosis, I don't know if you can hear me or not because I keep having an illusionary you talking to me, so I'm just going to repeat myself over and over again while I keep hitting the call button.”

She repeats herself ten times by the time you reach her shop. You raise you hand to the proper bitch slapping position, ready to end this horrid joke. You open the door to the shop. Items are strewn about everywhere, as it always is. You head to the back room, ready to slap. You open up cupboards, desks, anywhere her tiny body could be hiding. That is when you notice something very peculiar. The bedside window is open. You feel the night breeze blow throughout the room.

“Please, Ambrosis. I'm begging you! I don't like this! I... I need to get out of here. I can't... Is this even the effect? Did... Did the game not slow things down? Is my time up? Am I even awake? Is this just... the neurons firing...?” She slowly goes quiet. Then she whispers, “Ambrosis, just in case you're real... please. Please get me out of here.”

Something in your mind pieces everything together. She's under the effect of the Meeting of the Faries. That means she must be at Castle Sunset. If she is at Castle Sunset, she doesn't know that she was put back there. If that's true, then she must have been kidnapped. And if that's true most likely the window is the point of entry. From that, the obvious conclusion is that the Umbra are real and you have a castle to burn to the ground.

“I'm on my way.” You say.

“Promise me you're real.” She responds with a whimper.

“I promise. I'm the realest real an Ambrosis can be.”

“Okay.” Her voice breaks towards the end. She might be crying.

Thou speak'st aright; 410
I am that merry wanderer of the night.
I jest to Oberon and make him smile
When I a fat and bean-fed horse beguile,
Neighing in likeness of a filly foal:
And sometime lurk I in a gossip's bowl, 415
In very likeness of a roasted crab,
And when she drinks, against her lips I bob
And on her wither'd dewlap pour the ale.
The wisest aunt, telling the saddest tale,
Sometime for three-foot stool mistaketh me; 420
Then slip I from her bum, down topples she,
And 'tailor' cries, and falls into a cough;
And then the whole quire hold their hips and laugh,
And waxen in their mirth and neeze and swear
A merrier hour was never wasted there. 425
But, room, fairy! here comes Oberon.

I personally think the Japanese in the LN/anime were fucking poor but even so the royalty have enough that they could buy alot of the important structures if they were allowed to by the system.
Plus the buying places out from under them plan wasn't that good. It only worked because noone that cared stopped to think about thing for a moment and/or called his bluff out. He'd have gone bankrupt extremely fast having to pay maintenance fees as just one way to tell him to fuck off.

Ahhh good to know Shepherd.
>>
>>33597292
Funny thing about npcs. While royalty have MASSIVE amounts of money they for the most part still consider adventurer prices to be ridiculously expensive since we can make more doing other shit. eg a quest gives 200 gold for some silly nonsense. Why do that when we can make a few thousand minimum in less time during some event/raid?

Also Lander nobles pack teleport rings as standard items to GTFO from assasination so we can do whatever we want and not murder him. The lv 110 guards on the other hand are going to be interesting when they show up,
>>
>>33597626
So hypothetically we could buy this king out.
>>
>>33597626
Are we sure the guards will show up? He started the hostilities.
>>
>>33597724
he isnt in a town, he is in a quest area, so no guards except his shadow ninjas
>>
>>33597639
We could buy out most of the people lower ranked than the king Lander royalty dosh is unknown but very high and noone is going to want to buy it until they get more familiar with the local gestapo.
Depending on the setup around the castle we could possibly erect or buy the land surrounding it to cage him in but castles are specifically built to last years.
I want to go with explosions but diplomacy might be a good option since assuming this is like the LN there may be some monster hordes growing out of control because no adventurers give enough of a shit to kill them. He'd be pretty fucked if the adventurers all decided to go on strike or something but that's not exactly our style.
>>
>>33597724
So long as you don't actually do what the system considers an attack you don't trigger the protocols. Hence midget never triggered a guard. she didn't even do any hp damage with her knee kicks so it was considered just playing around. You can get away with ALOT once you start trying to game the system.

It's why Japan got rapey so fast because they realized that defending yourself from attack before you officially were attacked triggered the guards on you.

OK That is a bit ambiguous since it's JAPAN but a place where guys have clear physical dominance over bunch of women and the very laws/system considers most forms of interference with an act of rape to be illegal is begging for trouble to begin with. That place being Japan is just so much worse.

Well, if everyone hates it, I'm sorry.

“You're allowing for a possible business rival to be born.” You point out, “And, more importantly, not only does he probably have more gold than your entire guild combined, but he has proven he will play dirty. He already kidnapped Lilac. What's to keep him from capturing you, or Tabula, or Frankenstien, or Emm, or BatScribe? He might just capture every Adventurer he needs to mass produce tanks and then just steamroll Boulder and take over the entire city and enslave all the Adventurers!”

“That is a bit hyperbolic.” He responds, “But you make a good point. How are you supposed to run a reputable business against someone who doesn't play by the rules? You can't.” He lets out a halfhearted sigh. “Well, I guess he called this down on himself. There's nothing I can do. It's strictly business.”

“So you'll help me?”

“Yeah. We'll mobilize the tanks. Will you be taking the BRO?”

“Tanks? As in plural? As in, more than one!?”

“Oh, yeah we may have made some copies of the BRO. Only a few.”

“How many is a few?”

“Fifteen.” He responds, “Strictly for sales purposes, but I guess testing them out wouldn't be a bad thing.”

“Strictly for business reasons.” You comment.

“Trying to get everyone together to storm the castle.” You respond. “Is Canis awake?”

“No, but I don't think he'd be of much help. He consumed the fairy nectar so going back to the castle would just make him see the fairies again. He should just stay here where it's safe.”

“Yeah. That makes sense.” Something about this seemed off, though. “Wait. How do you know about that?”

“Oh, Canis told me what happened.”

“No, no, no. I mean how do you know that going back to the castle would cause that? Canis couldn't have know because I only just found that out.” Suddenly questions floating in your head crystallize. “That's how he found out about what happened during the race! To be fair, Aideen was just doing her job.
And now I know why TinyShepherd never mentioned her class. She's an assassin.

>just doing her job
So?
>>
>>33598896
So she may not have had a choice.

Canis might be able to convince her to defect, but we're gonna have to make things safe for her.

However, if she was lying all along, lynch her.

I don't know why anyone would hate you for that twist, it was one of the two possibilities when she dodged our inquiry about the Umbra before leaving for the first trip to the castle.

He's our best friend. He deserves to know that his girlfriend is a spy.
>>
>>33598940
That's quite an assumption. At no point have we seen Aideen follow bushido.

Let's just give her a chance. If she doesn't take it, it's on her.
>>
I want to know if Aideen knows that we were telling the truth to the King?
>>
>>33598950
This actually gives me an idea. we need to word it in such a way that he feels like he's James Bond or some other sort of international pirate superspy.
>>
>>33598966
She has already successfully infiltrated our group once, she can do it again, and its probably her job to do so, and giving her a second chance is exactly what she would need to get in, never turn your back on the enemy

No, she just blew her own cover.

We take out the king, she's out of a job.

Food for thought:
Canis was also missing from the play and the play was most likely based on her reports.

It's possible that she didn't mention him to protect him from the king seeing him as something useful.

Or it could be a red herring and simply a way to justify getting back into the group as >>33598998 pointed out.

Or maybe...
She's drowning with her soldier boy.

Only time will tell.

Huh. I thought this quest looked interesting so I went and read it from the beginning. Then I come back and find that this thread's still not over yet. You run for a long time, guy.

“God damn it.” You mumble to yourself. You open up your friends list, but realize this conversation shouldn't be done over the phone. You try to think of how you'd even explain what just happened, but you can't even find the right words. That girl you like is evil? We've been bamboozled? You stuck your dick in crazy ninja? Nothing seems to fit. You give up and decide that maybe when you're there you'll think of something to say.

You walk up the stairs and knock on Canis' door. After a couple of seconds you open the door to find Canis sitting on his bed, fists clenched.

“Canis...” You say, “Aideen-”

“I know.” He cuts you off, “She just told me.”

“She did?” You feel a bit confused. Why would she do that? Did she actually like Canis? Or maybe she's just setting up a way to get in good with us if the king falls?

“I'm going.” The wolf-fang says, “Someone has to make sure she doesn't do something stupid.” He stands. “Let's roll.”

“Oh, speaking of something stupid, let me get Takeshi. He's the only one besides me who won't be trying to chase fairies the second they step into the castle.”

“Fine. Just make sure he doesn't touch Aideen.”

You open up the menu and call Takeshi.

RING

RING

RING

Takeshi picks up.“Mmmmm... The Ssammmuraiii Coode... says... true samurai do not sleep.” Then a long pause followed by snoring.

“Takeshi!” You shout, “Wake up! Lilac's been captured ninjas. We need your help getting her back!”

“Did you say ninjas!?”

“Yes. Ninjas.”

“Ah yes, the dishonorable and mortal enemy of the samurai. I have been training all my life for this moment.”

Fuck. He'll kill Aideen. You need to think of something. “Oh, but Aideen... has been... brainwashed! By psychic ninjas! So make sure you don't hurt her!”

“Ah yes, the psychic ninja, the most dishonorable of them all, using innocent people as a shield. The Samurai Code knows how to defeat such a ninja.”
>>
>>33599714
You hang up. You don't even want to know what he is planning. As long as Aideen is off limits everything should be fine.

You and Canis reach the BRO still parked in the middle of the street. The two of you climb aboard to see Takeshi standing on the cloth center of the deck in the faux-mystic stance.

Without even looking to you two the assassin says, “Tabula is preparing the engine and I am doing the pre-battle meditation as prescribed by the Samurai Code.”

“If you say so, Takeshi.” You say with a slight chuckle.

Canis remains silent, wearing a serious face.

You shout to Tabula, “Get this thing running on maximum power! We're heading out!” Then you sprint to the driver's seat and set the BRO to full speed forward. In an hour your mighty machine meets up with all the other land-ships outside the castle. Arrows fall like rain from the spires and walls, most of them flaming. You can smell the smoke already.

The <49erS> seem to be using their BROs as shields and just as transports with the actual troops attempting to climb the tentacle-like walls.

Trying to climb and overtake the walls is going to take a lot of time. You could easily just ram the BRO through the gates, but that might damage the BRO severely.

Gotta manually repair items that weren't originally in the game.
Eg you can plop your old armour that used to exist on instantly via menu/etc but if a person made armour by hand you have to actually put it on.
It's probably easier to just salvage parts and melt the rest down.

First, I gotta admit, I don't know a lot about electrical engineering and most of what I know was researched at the beginning of the race arch. Yes, I realize it was a terrible arch. Hopefully this one is better.

That being said...
If you're talking about her car:
Her car used a block of 16 lead-acid batteries, each one being about 12v. When she was going for distance at the beginning of the race she had broken the batteries into eight groups of two. Each group used a parallel arrangement. The groups themselves were connected to each other via a serial arrangement, which adds their voltages together, making it a 96v system with about 36 hours of power. At the end of the race she changed the wires to be a complete serial arrangement bringing the system to a 192v system.

If you're talking about the Manifest Destiny:
It's a huge block of batteries and the engine is based on the PPR DD1 train. Mostly because there's mention of one on the wiki page for DC motors.

The problem with it is I'm unsure if an how it would work.

If the system counts as an equitable weapon it will be completely unusable because it will probably be level 200 or something.

If the system sees it as an artillery weapon then I definitely have no idea how it will work. A member of the <Debauchery Tea Party> had the Artillery Officer subclass and other than that there is no real mention of artillery and how it is used.

If it is viewed as a natural phenomenon that just so happens to be man made, then it would definitely work.

I'm not sure how smart/uncaring the game world is. This mostly came into play when I had to think of how hanging would work. Would it count as an attack by the person who put the noose over their head or the person who pulled the lever/kicked off the chair/whatever OR does it not even count as an attack and simply registers it as the person taking damage from drowning? In the end I just decided to put the hanged people outside to city to just circumvent the entire thing.

The only real clue is how Shiroe made the contract to make Rudy an adventurer but he really didn't do any testing and we dont know what experimentation he did so it's mostly worthless.

The contract is a replica of the login screen/disclaimer and he made the important parts of it subclauses in some sort of attempt to trick the universe into not noticing they made Rudy into an adventurer while the main stuff had terms that would make Rudy need to be one.

I think it's sort of like how in a discworld book this genie could transport the group in his lamp while he was in his lamp and then he picked up his lamp to start walking. So long as noone actually pointed out that this doesn't make sense the universe forgets to apply logic.

There also seems to be a bit of a quality of ingredients thing too but Shiroe just used his best since experimenting to see what fails wasn't an option at the time.
TLDR not enough data

But if something were too work it would be via the logic of "I didn't make a railgun but I just so happen to have these two magnetic rails in proximity to each other."
Or instead of making the original device put a bunch of things together that just so happen to replicate the functionality.
Eg those giant alchemist bombs in the west wind brigade manga.. Can you make an explsive landmine? Generally No. Can you just plop thousands of cheap explosives together to let the individual damage each one does stack and wire them to a trap? Totally.
>>
>>33607230
>>33607731
Or the way those boars were farmed for cooking. Instead of trying to slice it up for parts/drops outside they had the chefs manually cut them apart to circumvent game logic via enforcing game logic. It seems to be all about doing some basic activity with a secondary effect that the system isn't paying attention to.

Yeah, I realize, it's just that Mamare had stated that modern weapons would be too high level to use, and our technological advancement is starting to spin out of control a wee bit. I'm a bit nervous about going, "Nah. America just figured that shit out. Took Japan 3 months to make a steam ship? Took America 3 weeks! America! Fuck yeah!"

Although, that does kinda fit with the only canon theme America has had.
It took Japan a month to start making food with taste on a grand scale.
In the same time America already had it long enough to have riots over it.
America: #1 in discovery, #1 in self-destruction.

I also realize that I have no obligation to stick to the canon, especially after I messed up some key parts back in the beginning, but I still want to stick as close to the canon as I can at this point.
>>
>>33609110
Our server is much larger and probably has a higher population so we can probably get away with that. The Japanese are also a bit more subdued as a people in the LN so while they're easier to organize if you order them around they're also harder to get started. There's also a bit of a different mentality towards games.

American games mentality is about breaking the rules or finding a loophole as part of the game. Magic the Gathering for example. Half the plot is about breaking the game, discovering your own unique thing, or at least there's enough attempts that they're a subset of players.
Japanese play is about following the hard set pattern laid out. Eg Yugioh. They have a specific goal they want to herd people into and when something like magical scientist comes out the Japanese go berserk.(granted that might also be because Americans invented the deck type while japanese never noticed the otk) There are worse "officially sanctioned" combos but Scientist is still banned nowadays.

America as a culture is also obsessed with guns, war, and vehicles. It was going to be the focus of research and discovery from the get go. Tangential obsessions are with post apocalyptic scenarios due to the decades of cold war.

TLDR The American servers are a bunch of people suddenly going " I have prepared for this my entire life."
Or Americans are like the Australians in Pacific Rim when Kaiju appear.
>>
>>33609589
Another example is how exp parties from final fantasy xi went.
The Japanese would have the melee use Ninja as a subclass to mitigate damage with the spell utsusemi. Utsu bloocked 3 hits then they put it up again and so on.
The reasoning behind it is the mage wouldn't run out of mp so it's a slow and steady thing for a decent rate of exp.
The NA/EU players eventually settled on using sj war/sam/etc to deal more damage while taking more damage per attack by the monster.
The logic being that even if they take twice as much damage per hit they cant get hit if it's dead so they took less net damage. additionally the monster only really attacks one person at a time so its not like the other DD shadows(Utsusemi) are being useful most of the time.
So the NA/EU players are the mad (izzet?) scientists that getting organized is like herding cats. The Japanese are more methodical and calculated (and better at the assembly line or organization) but less prone to experimentation.
I was just reading the latest chapter and somehow (Warning. LN spoilers)Demikas didn't even kill any landers despite going full despot. I have no doubt that some crazy American PK would have been trying to make fun and creative ways to kill off landers like people in Zombieland.
>>
>>33609589
I have no words and I must express joy and admiration towards this post.

Seriously, though, that's actually really interesting and makes me feel a lot better about the direction the quest has been heading.

Maybe that's why Mamare put super powered sea monsters between America and Japan.

>>33609802
>final fantasy xi
That brings back memories.

>Spoilers
True, but he also started a sex trade racket (Or something like that? My reading comprehension is apparently shit.) which would probably be anathema to American sensibilities.

Makes me think that American PKers and Japanese PKers would both try to claim moral superiority to the other.
>>
>>33610912
true although when one thinks about it Demikas didn't technically do anything morally wrong as far as his understanding of the situation went. As far as he and others were concerned it even the stuff they were doing to other players was just the equivalent of teabagging. One might even say he was basically RPing like the Akiba players only in a less romanticized tone. Then shiroe comes along and says his RP is stupid, informs Demikas that it isn't a game, and as he struggles to hold his group together in the aftermath, and then suddenly some giant guild sent by Shiroe comes in, beats the tar out of him, and talks bullshit about how numbers aren't everything while wearing stuff that cranks out bullshit numbers in both damage and range. It's no wonder Demikas hates all of them.

There should be a few technological blocks (eg if we didn't luck out and have Lilac the tech level/boom would be MUCH lower.) coming up and we've not "infiltrated" the Landers as much as Japan has. so there are at least some areas Japan is ahead in.
The PK's are sorta interesting. Akiba's PK did tons of experimentation immediately due to boredom(so we aren't THAT ahead of Japan. We just used it for more practical purposes as we had an outlet) while the Suskino ones were more um "business oriented" and used it to play out their own little delinquent town RP.

The PK we've seen so far here are more mercenary.(OMG A QUEST)
>>
>>33612192
>The PK we've seen so far here are more mercenary.(OMG A QUEST)
Hey, if a named NPC comes up to you and says "I gib you phat lootz if yous killz da noobs" you fuckin' do it.

But more seriously, we'll hopefully be seeing more of <Last Valley> and how they actually operate. How we're going to do that without switching to Zachery's perspective I'm not sure yet. Most I can think of is he calls you in a day or two and drops some exposition on what he's been up to.
>>
When reading Log Horizon, nothing struck me more with regard to the differences of the West and East than the following.

"Not to sound boastful, but the Japanese saw no value in undermining the authority of its governing body. In fact, they viewed those in politics or in the police force as people who provided world-class service. If such organizations failed, it would only inconvenience them. So for most Japanese, they would rather leave these organizations to their own devices. So such notions as 'the Japanese government being incompetent is only natural' did not originate from the Japanese people themselves. In other words, Akiba's Adventurers, who were also Japanese, would not think of 'undermining the authority of the ruling organization'. "

I started laughing at 'world-class service.' If a sizable portion of the Japanese really think this way, then they hold a view I find truly hard to understand.
>>
>>33613900
I don't really get this. Maybe my reading comprehension is bad, but
>If such organizations failed, it would only inconvenience them.
That sounds like the precious sentence is sarcastic.
Like, the "world class" service is such that people go their lives with such minor influence by the government and the police, to the point that if those failed, most people wouldn't give a shit.
>>
>>33614309
I dunno. The Japanese cities seemed to have capitulated pretty fast.
Suskino had to have had a decent amount of high levels other than Demikas. The same thing that let the slavery happen is the same thing that lets people free them/protest.
Akiba folded to the first pretense of authority.
SlutTown capitulated within days/hours and somehow large masses of people haven't tried to escape to a different town or set HP near a raid instead.
>>
>>33615371
That is interesting when you compare them to Big Apple.

After the Food Riots the entire place more or less becomes like Susukino except instead of one guild in control, it's several guilds all warring throughout the city trying to take control.

And what do the Americans do in that situation? They just leave. I'm pretty sure Leonardo outright says that everyone except the bad guys had already left long ago by the time he finally decides to fairy ring out of there.
