We'll start from another perspective and switch back to Akari's after a bit again today, because I like the way that fills out other characters and gives a bit of extra background and whatnot.
Being Mami is suffering

You are Tomoe Mami, a Level 4 esper and what the uninitiated might refer to as a 'magical girl'.

And, for some reason, you just can't get laid.

Seriously, what the hell? You're pretty sure you're a babe.

But you just can't get any.

Hell, you walked in on the Twins (who everyone knows are entirely enamored with you) during one of their homoerotic, incestuous 'tickle fights,' right in the middle of the main office of Judgment Branch 090.

You walked in on them.

They stared at you, faces bright red from embarrassment and excitement intermingled, the thin veneer of sweat giving their identical faces a glossy sheen, and what did you do?

You winked, bit your lip, asked, “Who said you could get started without me?” and made to remove your blouse.

And, two geysers of nasally-ejected hemoglobin later, they were unconscious and you were shirtless and entirely unmolested.

And, as you helped their sleeping forms back into those stupid, overly-frilly dresses of theirs, knowing Tsuruya-san and her red-headed wife (those two are so cute together, it makes you want to vomit- in a good way) would be back from their patrol soon enough, you refrained from swearing, refrained from seeking release of any sort, refrained from admiring their petite forms as you wiped the sweat and blood off of the Twins' alabaster skin.

Because you, Tomoe Mami, are a REFINED and ELEGANT LADY!

GOD DAMMIT.

You pound your fists on the desk as you finish doing the Twins' paperwork.

You need a fu- you really need a drink.

You sigh as you pour yourself another shot.

Alcoholism isn't something a lady should indulge herself in, you suppose, but... you are a Level 4, after all, as well as a-

Your thoughts and potential plot advancement are interrupted by a package thumping down onto the desk before you.

“You're Akari-chan's sempai, correct? Would you be so kind as to make sure she receives this?”

The voice asking is gentle and sweet, you think.

You lift your eyes to see a girl- no, a woman- with several distinguishing traits.

The first and foremost being her hair, which is long and silky and a shade of red that makes you think of the motherland.

The second being her kind smile, which makes you feel all melty inside.

The third is the Saiga-12S semi-automatic shotgun slung under her arm, and the presumably-bulletproof vest covered with pouches that are probably stuffed with ammunition.

But... perhaps the strangest thing about her is the way she seems to have noticed that gently-glowing gemstone of yours.

Her smile wavers, if only for a moment. She bends over and snatches up your shot-glass, downing its contents.

She says something in your native tongue, slightly less-than-fluently.

A warning, by the tone, and you know the tone all-too-well, but an observation, if you were to consider only the words themselves.

Were you to translate it (why would you, though?), it would be something like, “I didn't expect to see another of [those] so soon.”

You know full well what the implications of her statement were.

You also know full well that you can't let her leave without returning a quip of your own.

“Where did you happen to acquire such a fine weapon, American?”

The words are innocent enough, but the accusation comes with the tone.

She doesn't seem too perturbed by your question, though, and she answers, in Japanese once more, her tone sing-song and carefree, “It was a gift~”

You pour yourself another shot as she leaves.
>>
The only thing you can think when the door swings open, not ten minutes later, is another word from home.

Blyad.

A part of you wonders what Floofykins-san would think.

Another part of you worries about the part of you that's concerned with the opinions of that freaky cat-thing.

Okay, I think that's enough plot shenanigans for now, back to Akariiin shenanigans!

You are Akari Takamichi, and you're really kinda getting worried here.

Mato's still big.

And it's been a few hours now.

You expertly direct the Skill-Outs in the construction of their human pyramid as they try to rescue a kitten from a particularly-tall tree, and, after a series of dangerous undulations that nearly caused your heart to jump out of your chest and run around in circles of sheer panic, the one in the sleeveless leather jacket (no, not /that/ one, the one with the mohawk!) manages to grab the stranded feline, much to the relief of the rest of his gang.

After figuring out that it wasn't tagged, you directed the young men to the nearest animal shelter, where you'd suspect many of them will be volunteering in the near future.

With that problem solved, and more young men turned towards productive roles in society, you turn to Mato, who has been watching the whole affair with a smirk plastered onto her face.

You find yourself almost-rubbing her bared midriff and shake your head.

“Mato-chan, when are you going to go back to normal size?”

She puts her hands together and places them to the side of her head, then rests her cheek on them.

“When you go to sleep?”

She shakes her head, then draws a line with her finger. She holds her hands just short of each end of the imaginary line, cupping the space between the endpoints.

What is she- OH! While she's sleeping. “It's a gradual change, then?”

She nods emphatically.

It's a few hours into the afternoon, now, but you should patrol for awhile longer.

Then again, you might want to report back to your sempais about the whole MOP-MAN thing.

Mato tried texting them earlier, but they didn't respond. They're probably busy with paperwork or something.

Well, you haven't reported it yet, and Anti-Skill didn't make too big a deal out of it, so reporting your bizarre encounter with the madman and his mop can wait!

Mato seems to understand your decision before you can even tell her about it, if the approving nod and offered hand are any indication.

You take her hand, and let her lead you through the boundaries of the Strange, content with the physical contact and the relative quiet.

It's not too long before Mato abruptly stops, dropping into a low crouch and pointing to her ear, then making a gesture indicating that there's something around the corner.

The building you're crouching by seems like it used to be a bakery, maybe.

Before it became a canvas, anyways.

After a few moments of tense silence, you hear it, too.

Clanking.

Like, a LOT of clanking.

Almost like a couple of chicks in big metal armor marching down the street.

Pff, what a ridiculous notion.

You peek around the corner and see...

A couple of chicks in big metal armor, marching down the street.

Huh.

Each of them has white hair (well, the one in the middle's wearing a helmet, but you can assume) that provides sharp contrast with their black and red armored suits, and they're all carrying absurdly-sized weapons- oversized guns and golden chainsaw-swords, for the most part- and marching in formation.

It takes you a moment to recognize where you've seen this before.

Nee-chan has figurines that look like these.

They're, uh, they're...

Sororitas, maybe?

You'd think they were cosplaying, but... their weapons and armor look so... real.
>>
Mato pulls you back away from the corner and pantomimes furiously.

“They're just cosplayers,” you say, adding a “probably” under your breath, “and even if they're real, they'd only shoot us if they thought we were cultists or aliens or something.”

Somehow, that last part seems to do the exact opposite of what you had wanted it to do (which was 'reassure Mato-chan', by the way), because she grabs your shoulders and puts her face close to yours.

Heh.

Mato smells nice.

Er, you mean, uh...

Mato's staring into your eyes, the kind of stare that one directs towards a person when one is trying to determine their sanity.

You stare back, giving her your best 'I'm totes not crazy, super-duper promise' (which is something of a sight to behold, admittedly) in return.

She sighs soundlessly and releases you, making a gesture you loosely interpret as 'FINE'.

With that settled, and Mato holding your hand in a death-grip, you:
>Step out around the corner, greet the murder-nuns (do you say anything in particular?)
>Ignore them and move on, you don't have time to waste on these cosplayers, despite the fact that they may well be packing absurd amounts of heat
>Something else? (Write-in)

I think she is a Level 4 Esper, and her powers make her look like something others would call a magical girl. Hence the 'uninitiated'.

You suddenly realize, you need pictures of this.

“C'mon, Mato-chan, let's go take pictures!”

The look Mato gives you is difficult to describe with mere words.

If one had to describe it, though, like for a quest or something, the most proper word would probably be something like, “Wat.”

But you're too busy dragging her (geez, she's heavy!) around the corner to notice her nigh-indescribable expression.

There seem to be seven sisters in all, and, as you run up to them, they halt, forming a line that spans the entire road.

It is at this point that the metaphorical spaghetti begins falling out of your pockets.

How are you supposed to act in this kind of situation, anyways?

Mato seems equally fazed.

The helmeted sister, who also happens to be the center-most one, steps forward as you draw to a halt.

She bangs her fist on her metal-plated breast and bellows, [GREETINGS, YOUNG ONES! I AM SISTER ONOE!]

Her voice sounds like astronauts on TV, when they make that static-y sound before and after talking.

You wave meekly. “H-hi! I'm Takamichi Akari, and this,” you say, gesturing to Mato, “is Tsuruya Mato!”

There's a second, louder clatter as her sisters duplicate the salute.

[YOU BEAR THE INSIGNIAS OF THE LOCAL PRAETORS! IF IT IS NO TROUBLE, MIGHT YOU BE OF ASSISTANCE TO THESE HUMBLE SERVANTS OF THE EMPEROR?]
>>
You scratch the back of your head. “Well, I just wanted to take a picture, but, uh-”

[A PICTURE? WHY DID YOU NOT SAY SO IMMEDIATELY?! WE WOULD BE OVERJOYED.]

The sisters immediately form up, striking a remarkably cute group pose.

Mato, who is less than enthused about the whole ordeal, snaps a picture of you and the sisters on her phone.

The sisters act as if nothing cute has just occurred and return to formation, though you note that one of them is touching up the little french flower-thingie-insignia on her cheek with one of those make-up pencil doohickeys.

Onoe-san regards you interestedly.

You give her armored waist a hug and thank her, then:

You giggle when Onoe pats you on the head. “Mato-chan's normally really nice, but she... lost her voice and has really sensitive ears, and I think your armor kinda freaks her out.”

Onoe nods at you conspirationally. [AND HOW HAVE YOU DETERMINED THAT THIS MATO-CHAN IS, AS YOU SAY, “NICE”?]

Oh, that's easy! “She's my girlfriend! We slept together this morning and she said she'd take responsibility!”

You manage to remain completely unaware of what you just said for the entire span of two seconds.

Then, you realize what you just said.

Mato appears to be beet-red, as do the sisters, who have converged in a circle behind Onoe-san to whisper and giggle amongst themselves. Words like 'yuri' and 'pettan' and 'lolicon' are used, and the latter two seem to spark intense miniature debates when mentioned.

Onoe-san, for her part, is helmeted, and therefore capable of pretending she isn't blushing like crazy.

She pats you on the head, then makes an 'I'm watching you' hand gesture at Mato, pointing from her visor to Mato's eyes.

You follow along behind Mato-chan, only lamenting that she's wearing that coat of hers a little bit.

She seems to be grumpier like this- when she's big, that is.

You wonder why.

Maybe it's hormones or something?

You look over your shoulder. Onoe-san and her sisters are keeping up just fine.

“Say, what concert were you talking about, anyways?”

[SURELY YOU MUST HAVE KNOWN THAT MIKU-SAMA WAS HAVING A CONCERT TODAY!] She immediately produces a poster from... her gun?

Is her huge gun really just a purse?

That's either really weird or really cool.

You're not sure which.

Maybe a little of both?

She unrolls the poster and shows you a girl who looks kinda familiar.

Turqoise twintails and eyes, a cutesy pose, some silly bangles on her wrist, and what looks like a school uniform and a pair of thigh-high boots...

The advertised concert is scheduled for July 20- in other words, today.

[DO YOU RECOGNIZE MIKU-SAMA'S NAME NOW THAT YOU MAY COMPARE IT TO HER BEAUTIFUL FACE?]

You tilt your head a little.

“Miku-sama, huh?” You've heard of her, you think. Yeah! You asked Nee-chan if she wanted to go (honestly, a girl like that? That's right up Nee-chan's alley- or so you'd thought) to a Miku concert a few months back, and she had told you she already had plans.

In fact, she told you that just about every weekend, which is also apparently when Miku's concerts normally are.

Hmm.

That Miku girl definitely looks like someone, but she's too short, even with her platform boots. There's a strange something in the girl's eyes.

It's not quite greed, you think, but...

Your brain snaps the clues together like... like the pieces of a puzzle designed for two-year-olds.

No challenge at all.

Miku looks just like Mato would, if Mato was shorter, rounder, cuter, less pasty, less scarred, less ROCK SOLID, and an idol.

In fact, big-Mato looks almost exactly like this chick.

And big-Mato is basically an older Mato!

And Mato said she had an older sister, but that she wouldn't say who- you always assumed it was the girl who looked like an older Mato, but that actually WAS Mato!

WHICH MEANS THAT MIKU IS MATO'S ONEE-CHAN.

HOLY SHIT.

YOU KNOW MATO BECAUSE NEE-CHAN INTRODUCED YOU.

NEE-CHAN IS ALWAYS GONE WHEN MATO'S ONEE-CHAN HAS CONCERTS.

Nee-chan isn't stalking Mato's big sister, right?

… right?

Mato glances over her shoulder.

Your phone vibrates.

'Congratulations. You finally figured out who my sister is.'

Is Mato-chan giving you lip?

You're about to type out an appropriately-sassy response when Mato leads you through the doors of A Certain High School, to where students are just starting to file out of a couple of classrooms.

You try your best not to regard them with disdain.

After all, Mato-chan only barely managed to avoid summer school, herself.

It doesn't take long for Onoe-san to spot her 'BATTLE BROTHER'.

In fact, it wouldn't take anyone long to spot him.

Because he's HUGE.

He is to the average high-schooler what big-Mato is to normal-Mato.

Except instead of being way taller, he's both wider and taller.

He scoops up the seven huge, armored girls into a hug.

All at once.

I.E., he LIFTS them off of their feet.

Mato blinks in surprise at the display, then reaches out for your hand.

You accept the hand-holding.

Onoe-san and her 'sisters' all crowd around the two of you, possibly because they've recognized the resemblance between Mato and her older sister, but also to thank you.

YOU GOT SEVEN PHONE NUMBERS FROM CRAZY ARMORED CHICKS!
(Score?)

After the sisters and their 'onii-sama' have left (with directions to the concert provided by Mato-chan, no less!), a little pink-haired girl comes up to you and tugs on your jacket.

“Excuse me,” she says, in a little voice that just makes you wanna pick her up and hug her forever and ever, “but, um, are you Takamichi-san?”

You blink.

How does this kid know who you are?

And what's she doing in a High School?

Most importantly, does she have a license to be this cute?

You pat her on the head and nod. “That's right, I'm Takamichi Akari! And who might you be?”

Mentally, you're preparing yourself to start frantically looking for an older sibling.

Mato looks amused for some reason.

The little girl bows excitedly.

“Tsukuyomi-sensei! But you can call me Komoe-chan!” She pauses awkwardly. “I mean, y'know, if you want to.”

She's... a teacher?

She smells like smoke, now that you've been snapped entirely back into reality after having your attention diverted by your hand being held.

“I, uh... okay, Komoe-chan.”

“Anyways, Steve-san wanted me to talk to you!”

… What? Why?

She drags you bodily into a classroom before you can voice these remarkably-pertinent questions.

“I'm something of an expert on Pyrokinesis, you see,” she begins, only to be interrupted by the sudden THUNK of Mato's face hitting a desk.

“... Holy shit, kid, are you already asleep?”

Wait, what?

Did she just-

Mato-chan does seem to be out cold, but what kind of teacher is this girl?

Komoe-chan clears her throat.

No, he couldn't have because he never got within range of any part of Touma's body that wasn't IB.

Now, he could have just stomped the ground and collapsed the entire area 10 miles into the earth and then shot balls of plasma into it for good measure. That would have actually been easier since

As Komoe-chan is explaining that shooting fire is a waste of energy, and pointing out the ways that a beam of thermal energy is superior- range, ability to melt stuff, hotness, coolness, and so on and so forth- you notice two things.

First, Mato-chan is little and cute again.

Second, you can feel something hot.

It's not just 'hot', though.

It's far away.

And hotter than the hottest thing you've ever felt before.

Panic and pure, instinctive, primal fear grip you as the heat increases.

Nee-chan took you to visit a volcano, once.

The magma chambers, the tour guide had said, can reach temperatures in excess of two-thousand degrees.

You could sense it from the mountainside.

It felt natural, almost calming.

Like some sort of ancient beast, rolling over in its slumber.

But this... this is even hotter.

And it's not natural.

It is quite possibly the least natural thing you've ever felt.

It must be showing on your face, because Komoe-chan looks worried.

“Takamichi-san? Are you alright?”

Well? Are you?

Accel not doing horrible things to Touma wasn't a case of personal reality insufficiency. His PR was already at a place that would have allowed him to do damn near anything, but he just didn't use it.

It's much easier to accept that Accelerator's crazy in a 'I want to toy with my prey' kind of way than it is to just assume that he was too pants-on-head retarded to realize there was a problem

It's some weird interpretation of wave-particle duality. Her PR forces the electrons she fires to act in a way disregarding both form's properties and just break apart the target.

It's total bullshit by real world physics, but it's Personal Reality so I guess it's okay. It's actually really good, since if it works as it apparently does it destroys things on a sub-atomic level, so any physical defense is worthless.

Problem is she isn't immune to it, so she's really limited in terms of how much she can fire at once.
>>
>>33590851

Yeah, she tends to job to other character. Kakine kicked her ass as well, though his power is to say "fuck you" to any law of physics he damn well pleases, so that's a fight not alot of people are going to win.

I don't think she's actually won a fight, aside from against mooks. Kind of sad.

She's alot of fun though.

>“Gya ha ha!! Oh, now where to start burning her? Maybe I should roast that little face of hers. Or maybe I should press against her pink ***** and burn it pitch black!! Hey, what do you think, Hamazura? You’d better come out, cause I’m gonna burn her into a black mummy! Or can you still get off to fucking a hole like that!?”
>(Dammit…)
>“I’ll count to three. If you don’t come out, I’ll burn Takitsubo’s ***** as punishment. Of course, if you’d rather just abandon her, then you can just sit there masturbating to the stench of her virginity being burned away.”

Well, yes. But Mugino is extra special crazy.

You know how characters get redeemed sometimes? That sort of happened to Mugino. So her logic is that she can murder as many people as she wants, because Hamazura will forgive her and fix her no matter what she does.

She's awesome. She doesn't seem to understand how redemption works, but there you go.

You can practically feel the strength leaving your body as you raise your arm and point.

“... Hot. T-that way. Hotter than anything I've felt before.”

Komoe-chan frowns. Probably because she knows exactly how your ability to sense heat works, and is perfectly capable of extrapolating the fact that there's some crazy shit going down.

She pulls out a cellphone and immediately calls someone.

Probably Anti-Skill.

Please let her be calling Anti-Skill.

Everything blurs a little as she begins frantically talking into the phone.

The fire just keeps getting hotter.

And bigger.

Anyone who could make a fire like that... would have to be a monster.

No human being could have a reason to make a fire that hot, that large, and for this long.

There's a strange sort of pressure building in your head. Like you're feeling something you shouldn't be able to feel.

Your vision blurs further.

What the hell is going on?

There are arms holding onto you, now.

Oh, hi, Mato-chan.

>“Y-you reconciled…owww…you reconciled with Hamazura. Bhh…You reconciled with him…You decided to live a proper life and walk in the same world as him!! Then! Then…!!”
>“Sigh…So that’s it.” Mugino scratched at her head in annoyance. “As long as I have Hamazura, this is fine.”
>“…What?”
>“I’ll get into trouble and into fights. There will even be deadly fights. But it will all work out in the end. No matter how many people I kill and how much I destroy, everything will be resolved in the end somehow and we can all be happy. All my past experiences have shown that to be true.”
>The atmosphere and overall mood suddenly grew colder.
>Some kind of strange rule that did not exist anywhere on the earth covered that area.
>“That’s how it was during the fight between Item and School. That’s how it was when we fought underground in District 23. That’s how it was when we met during the fierce fighting of World War III. And so I know it will be fine as long as I have Hamazura. No matter what happens, he will forgive me in the end.”
>Kinuhata quietly sighed from her position outside Mugino’s field of vision.
>They had no idea who that attacker worked for, but he had misread the situation on a fundamental level.
>Just because a happy ending had been reached did not mean all the death and violence had forever ended.

… Mato-chan lookes worried.

About you.

In your stupor, you realize you can hear far more than you should be able to.

You can hear the Anti-Skill officer on the other end of the line in Komoe-chan's phone.

He's saying that you're wrong, that there is no fire, that a fire that big would create a windstorm as the fire sucked in oxygen to fuel itself.

Under normal circumstances, he'd be absolutely correct.

Under these circumstances, he couldn't be any more wrong.

Your eyes dip closed as darkness descends over your world.

Then you force them back open.

What the hell do you think you're doing, anyways?

You can't pass out on your first day!

Whatever it is that's making that much heat, it can't be good.

And you might well be the only person 'qualified' to handle it.

“Mato-chan.”

Akari-”

You grab onto her shoulder and pull yourself into a standing position.

“Something's wrong. We have to stop it, whatever it is. It's dangerous. Extremely dangerous.”

“How dangerous? Level 4 dangerous?” She pauses. “Level... Level 5 dangerous?”

“Level this-isn't-pyrokinesis dangerous.”

“Shit.”

You nod. “I know. Let's go.”

Komoe-chan didn't try to stop you.

She could probably see it.

The fire in your EYES.

Academy City... you may not have been born here. You haven't even lived here for the majority of your life.

But this is your city.

And the people here?

They're your people.

Your friends, family, acquaintances and allies, comrades, brothers-and-sisters-in-arms, and whatever else you could think to call them.

The words don't matter.

What does matter, is that someone's burning your city.

Someone, or some...thing.

All that means to you at the moment is that someone or something needs to be on the receiving end of an ass-kicking.

You're more than capable, you think.

No, not think.

This is your city.

No.

No fireballs, no heat rays, none of that.

You have an idea.

You run up the stairs, even as they begin to warp and melt in the intense heat.

You can hear voices- two of them, both male- in addition to the freaky noises the fire monster is producing.

And, as you round the corner and come up behind the creature, the spiky-haired guy's eyes widen in surprise.

He looks like he's about to ask what you're doing here.

Which is odd, given he's fist-fighting a scary fire demon.

You'd think he'd be a little more... unfazed by this kinda thing.

Regardless, Mr. Fire-demon-guy isn't particularly perceptive, and the way these bits of paper (which, bizarrely enough, haven't been reduced to cinders yet) are fluttering about I mean, come on, he only taped them on one side, those things would be flapping all over the goddamn place, let's be honest here , they're making enough noise that your footsteps are basically nothing.

As you draw nearer, you can feel it.

Pulsing.

Throbbing.

Sweltering.

If you were to walk up to the sun, it would probably feel a helluva lot like this.

The fact that you're aware of the temperature is almost shocking.

Such power...

It's in the wrong hands, now.

But your hands...

Your hands might fit this just right.

You're close enough to touch it, now.

Spiky-hair guy is gaping at you.

Your body seems to know how to react to heat on instinct alone.

You almost hesitate.

Almost.

The heat as you bury your hands in the monster's back is intense.

You're actually sweating.

Your shades are melting.

In fact, all of your clothes are melting.

But you can feel it inside of you, thrumming deep in your chest.

You take hold of... something, and you pull.

You can feel your mind reeling as it takes in this previously-incomprehensible new stimulus.

Fire that burns without air.

Heat hotter than any flame has any right to be.

An unrelenting, raging torrent of fire whips up a whirlwind in the very center of your being, in your very soul.

Your mind was so... so narrow, before.

So bound by rules and regulations like the 'laws of physics' and 'the way things work' and 'logic'.

But those don't apply here.

The power to BURN IT ALL AWAY is now yours.

Let none be fooled, there is no longer any flame greater than yours!

The last thing you do before you lose consciousness is witness spiky-hair guy punching the teeth outta some tall redheaded guy with a cigarette in his mouth.

Good on you, spiky-hair man.

That'll teach him to give himself lung cancer in a smoking-free area!

...

When did it get so not-hot, anyways?

...

Oh, hi, Mato.

Why's she look so freaked out, anyways, it's not like you did something rash or any-ZZZZZZZ

Its really only bad if it becomes a habit, the important thing is that thgis thing nor its outcome drastically change the quest, impact, yes, but the quest shouldn't start revolving around doing crazy stunts involving cameos,
>>
>>33594473
We could learn his heat illusion stuff, that's fun.
>>
>>33594548
I don't think this just gave us Innocentius-tier durability. It probably just let us make flames that burn like crazy.
>>
>>33594589

>>33594624

>>33594610

>>
>>33594574
I just hope that we don't end up in the canon stuff too much. I mean, running up to touch the fire demon and passing out is one thing, but please don't suddenly just replace the main cast of Raildex with Akari and friends. Don't have them be the ones to solve level upper or stop lv6 Shift or anything like that, ya feel me?
>>
>>33594574
It might be a good idea to have her lose a lot of control because of this. She gained a huge jump in ability with none of the training needed to use it safely.
>>
>>33594665
That'd be boring and dumb, anon.

Don't misunderestimate my stragegery, okay?
>>
>>33594624
Well, Accel made a huge ball of plasma, but the whole thing was pretty much over at that point so I doubt we'd get there in time before it was done.

And Stiyl makes Innocentius in AC a few more times, so I guess there's that.

Really we only need to get involved if we feel like it.
>>
>>33594662
>We'll die if we're killed
But then how will we get Kakine-kun to notice us?
>>
>>33594686
Good man.

Now just get crackin' on powerups from fisting Innocentius and we're all set!
>>
>>33594683
Losing control with firepowers is pretty angsty territory, which might not be appropriate for the quest.
Since she "stole the fire" so to speak, maybe she gained control over "metaphysical" flames
maybe she can make Mato 'burn' for her now like "fire of inspiration" kind of stuff. Admittely, I don't know if that fits into the setting.
>>
>>33594759
It'd fit more if we were a Magician trying to craft a spell about that.

As it is, we're an Esper, so our powers basically function however we intuitively feel they should.
>>
>>33594759
It doesn't fit.
>>
Is there a chance this could taint her with magicks somehow? I know Espers can't use that shit, but maybe she could be affected by it enough for Mami-sempai to notice with her magical girl powers?
>>
>>33594745
>wanting a male to notice you

I now imagine the Sororitas cosplayer seeing Mato run come out of the building with a mostly naked, sleeping Akari.

Lets hope that armor isn't 'too' authentic.
>>
>>33594683
That's not true at all. She gained a boost in ability because she gained a boost in understanding.

She can make the flames hotter and bigger now (assuming that's what the boost is) because she can control it better.

More power with esper abilities directly translates to finer control.
>>
>>33594814
>I didn't really intend her to be your waifu that fast.

And isn't Akari still oblivious? It's funnier that way.

I think giving her fire a special quality, or expanding its ulitiy or something would be better than a straight power-up.
>>
>>33595323
No need to go overboard with it really.

Most of Innocentius's power comes from it's insane regen. If we just absorbed the amount of power it had in a single instant, it's not that much.
>>
>>33595299
>>33595323
We were right on the cusp of lv4 from thread 1, though, so jumping up to med-high 4 wouldn't be that weird.

And don't underestimate level 4s. They're already crazy powerful. A level 4 telekinetic can put every particle of his body into stasis and essentially become indestructible. Saiai has short range reactive Nitrogen-specific aerokinesis and she can tank shots from tanks and then rip the tanks in half. Kuroko really is bullshit when you think about what she's doing. Umidori is nuts.
>>
>>33595383
If I remember right we were on the cusp of lvl 5, hence the challenge of reaching lvl 5 for ice cream.
>>
>>33595370
I think you're misinterpreting what happened.

Akari didn't actually 'absorb Innocentius' or his power or anything like that.

She touched it, had an epiphany about the nature of fire, and then passed out. The boost in her power came from shaking up her personal reality, not from glomming magic or something. It's not like she even could have eaten it; magic and esper powers are incompatible. She'd have turned into red goo.
>>
>>33595416

>>33595383
Level 4s are crazy, yeah.

I was told the scale was exponential, and I've taken that to heart.

>>33595416
Cusp of lvl 4, your motivation is ice cream, the researchers are entirely aware that you're capable of LVL FIVE stuffs.

>>33595418
Yeah, what this guy says!
>>
>>33595418
She didn't learn about fire. She learned about bullshit magic fire that burns way hotter than it should without air. There's an important difference there.
>>
>>33595383
Eh, Umidori is nuts through AC tech though.

Her normal power let's her create two nitrogen spears that can rip through tanks like butter and cut apart buildings. That's pretty good but not really insane.

Then she gets thousands of cyborgs hands attached to her, because giving the crazy girl the ability to fire thousands of building-destroying attacks is a GREAT idea.

Then she gets wrecked by a Fiveover Railgun which is hilarious.
>>
>>33595459
>Yeah, what this guy says!
I think you need to say it at the start of next thread, because some people here seem to think that she literally absorbed Innocentius or something.
>>
>>33595484
It's the fusion of her power and the tech. The extra hands wouldn't do jack shit if her personal reality didn't dictate that anything she considers a hand can shoot spears.
>>
>>33595479
Yes.

She learned how to be crazy, basically.

NO RULES!

>>33595503
More you realized that nothing makes sense and absorbed him metaphorically.
>>
>>33595459
Well, it's not exponential perse. Level 0-4 is fairly straightforward, though with a pretty big leap between 3 and 4.

It's just that to be a level 6 you need to be able to juggle universes, so level 5 can range from barely above level 4 to literally any amount of power at all.

It's why the gap between Kakine and Accelerator, and everyone else is so large.
>>
>>33595479
Point still stands that the powerup came from within her and was only inspired by outside happenings, not some kind of taking outside power into her.
>>

>>
>>33595667
They're very tiny hands. When she needs all of them they fold on top of eachother and shit. All that matters is that she perceives them as her own hands, they don't have to actually be able to function as hands.

And hell, if she can mind fuck herself into thinking a fucking cliff is part of her body, I won't doubt her.
>>
>>33595667
>You guys like spontaneous ignition far more than I ever anticipated.
I just like things that activate at a designated coordinate rather than traveling from caster to target. It's a personal thing.
>>
>>33595798
Time for mage quest

it'll revolve around tricking espers into completing spells inadvertently and killing themselves.

It'll be dumb and boring!
>>
>>33595667
Because spontaneous ignition is Akari's best power. Fireballs and flamethrowers are flashy and cool, but it's such a drag that someone can just Gears of War it and dive behind a chest-high wall. Someone hiding behind a wall? Spontaneously ignite their shit and they can't do nuthin' about it.
>>
>>33595873
I think Akari would benefit from abilities that don't horribly maim or kill people, which is, admittely, kinda hard to do with fire.
>>
>>33595873
b-but it requires line of sight

spontaneous ignition is literally your only power that wouldn't be able to affect them in that situation
