You are Darius Duravi. You're not very concerned. You should be.

[Catch the fuck up!] http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Operator%20Operator%20Quest
[Character Sheet] http://pastebin.com/HB7jgzrx

Recently, you:
-Flipped the fuck out.
-Went back home.
-Put your guns on.
-Contacted Evelyn.
-Told Evelyn about your plan.
-Met up with Evelyn and Darida in the inner reaches of Huxley's lab complex.
-Knocked Darida out. It was for her own good.
-Navigated through half the complex.
-Were accosted and held at gunpoint by a guard.

The plot:
You operate for a living. This involves hooking yourself up to some wires and controlling six robots. If you're DE BEST DE BEAST, you get paid. You mostly operate in Cups, where earning the most points across several missions gets you paid. Currently, you have other problems.

The objective:
You must navigate the recesses of Huxley's laboratory. At the same time, you must also avoid the guards, cameras and other security measures. You have a STEALTH LIMIT, which sits at an arbitrary 150 points. Once you exceed this limit, advanced security measures will activate automatically. More guards, better armed, even drones. All of your actions will increase your STEALTH GAUGE by a set amount. As a result, you have a limited amount of time before you trigger the HIDDEN FUN STUFF. Avoid dead ends and open combat, but backtrack and operate as necessary.

You have a gun at the back of your neck. You can't really see anything because there's blood in your eyes.

"Don't shoot, don't-" You raise your empty hands in a hurried motion, simulating panic with worrying ease, then with a start you spin around. You smack the gun-carrying limb away from you, it pulls the trigger, fires and misses. A bullet flies out at blistering speed, grazing your upper arm in a long stroke of sweltering heat. Your left arm recoils in shock, your right descends in a knuckled strike on the attacker's wrist.

It breaks.

Of the eight bones, most shatter. It's a right hand, you assume from its position, and several phalanges crumble as well. The guard crumples, bending at the knees and bending in half, clutching his arm. Your singed left arm traces a brazen uppercut and meets a skull. The locus of impact emits a wet crunch.

You straighten out. Wipe the blood away. Examine the situation.

It's a little gruesome. The guard clutches at his face, his body twists violently, his one free hand is rooted firmly to his face. An eye popped out, the other eye socket is red and bloody. His free hand is mangled, but lies limp on the floor, a pistol beneath it.

You pick it up. There is a convulsing body in front of you. It is in pain. It tried to kill you. Not "he." "It."

You examine the gun in your hand. It's ready to fire. Safety's off, should be a round in the chamber. You level it at the very image of agony before you. It'd be so easy. So just.

The guard's body continues to move haphazardly, without conscious thought. It's only reacting to the brutal pain which courses through its veins, a fire that burns in its hand and in its head. It holds its face, flails one leg and stomps with the other, its back arches and its torso folds back up. You almost feel pity.

But you step over it and walk ahead. It's not making much noise. At least, no noise that others could hear.

There are no others here.

You examine your hands and find that the left is mildly bloodied. Your upper arm aches once more, your mind now free to receive this stimulus, free from battle for survival. Evelyn comes up behind you. You don't catch the words in particular, but hear her worried voice. What if the guard gets better, she asks.

You look at his head. You point at his eye, dangling from its socket. Evelyn squirms and lets out a cute whimper. You turn your attention to her, fully. She's a pretty thing, isn't she? She asks what you're looking at. You smile. Her face goes from pale to a healthier shade.

She's got a point, you tell her. Go on ahead, you tell her. She complies, and when she does, you grab your trophy pistol by the barrel and swing it grip-forward at the guard's head. He goes limp.

Whoops.

Stealth has failed you. You're sick of playing the mouse. You're a fucking human being, god damn it! You're the apex predator. You OWN this place. You run this shit.

You're sick of hiding. You go back and pick Darida up again. You put the trophy pistol away, next to your own, and take up the AK-42. You take the safety off and pull the slide back.

Three-round burst will do nicely for one-handed wielding.

You move up, next to Evelyn.

"Are you alright?" She asks. There's a tinge of fear in her voice and more than a smidge of fear in her eyes. Her expression makes you aware of the solemn look your face shows. Your brows feel like steel, your face is in a scowl. You right yourself.

"Perfectly fine!" You assure her. "Now, get ready to follow me."

"Huh?"

"We're gonna run for it."

"Is that not risky-"

You grin. "Trust me." It's a thirsty grin.

You bolt from your place, storm down the hallway, tear through the guards like a hurricane, sniping the cameras. More guards follow. More cameras are shot. You go down the parallel hallways, one after another, sighting dead ends from far away and killing indiscriminately.

Fuck stealth.

Your body count rises. You stop just once to change mags. Evelyn's Calico-type is barely spent at all. There's just one decision left to make.

Time runs short, and as you run, you begin to hear the whirr of wall panels rotating, rising, removing themselves from the paths of security drones. Little wheeled contraptions, still spinning up, humming to life, begin their charge at you and Evelyn. The halls here are full to brimming with turns and bends and the layout becomes truly labyrinthine.

Shots start ringing out. You recognize the characteristic report as that of the "Peashooter," a built-in wannabe machinegun which fires .22lr rounds.

Well, an analogue, anyway. Doesn't change the fact that it couldn't kill a kitten at point blank. It's a terror weapon.

Unlike the very, very functional tasers. Those only work at point-blank range, but that's okay, because the drones can-

"Th-they've vanished!"

-enable thermoptic camouflage.

"Still got those needles?"

"The syringes, yes!"

"Throw 'em on the floor behind us and run ahead!"

Evelyn does just as you tell her to, scattering her three syringes on the floor and dashing in front of you. Medical equipment falls to the floor, yet doesn't break. Not until the drones roll over it and break it. Liquid bursts from the glass under the weight. Some of it splashes onto the drones.

Some idiot programmed them with pack tactics. You level your rifle at them, keeping up the pace.

Roll "dice+4d6+-4".

Woe unto them that hunt in packs. Woe greater still unto them that hunt in packs intelligently.

The optimal formations have long since been figured out - and extensively drilled - by Operators seeking to train themselves in the ways of numerical superiority. These drones were in wedge formation. You hastily switch your fire selector and pluck the 'bots with placed shots.

One, another, both to the legs. One, another, again in the legs. On and on, until the horde recedes to a small handful. You've got about 9 shots left in your mag and you still have to bail your company of three out. The drones keep spilling out of the walls. You know where to shoot, even if you can't quite see them, but-

"Darius! Dead end ahead!"

Shit!

Well, you don't have much choice.

"Evelyn! Shoot a silhouette on that wall there!"

"What?! This is not a movie!"

"Don't fucking question me, woman! Fire!"

You screech to a halt and turn to face the...

Drones? There aren't any. Where did they go? You look back at Evelyn, trying to place shots on the wall in the shape of a person. An armless person.

You leave Darida on the floor and head a little ways back. There's footsteps in the distance, brief ones, then nothing. You have bigger concerns than that at the moment. You pick up one of the drones by its stubby arm. It jitters to life briefly, attempting with an erratic movement to bring its other arm to your hand, electricity arcing between metal studs.

You drop it on your knee. Slower than before, it still insists on resistance. You repeat the motion. The drone halts. You raise your rifle to it and blow its "brains" out.

You head back to where Evelyn has now just about finished her task.

"Step aside."

She does so with a huff. You raise your arm, drone in hand, reach back and...

SLAM!

You smash the wall.

SLAM!

Again.

SLAM!

Once more.

SLAM!

The drone breaks. Wordless, you drop what remains on the floor and go back to get another. When you come back, Evelyn remains speechless.
[1/2]
>>
You sweep the last drone's remains to the side with your foot and begin anew.

SLAM!

Silently.

SLAM!

Unyieldingly.

SLAM!

Savagely.

SLAM!

This one falls apart, too.

"Far be it from me to question the primacy of violence in this world," your intellectual compatriot finally speaks, "but this wall does not seem to be thin enough for your ministrations to take proper effect, so perhaps we are better off-"

"...Yeah."

"Yes? So we are in agreement, then. We-"

"It doesn't look like it, but it's actually tough."

You head back for another drone-club.

"Should we not continue our search, then?!" Evelyn yells at your back.

"Nope."

You return with another makeshift ram. For this one, you unscrew the bottom eye - cue a brief shudder from the drone - and insert your hand. Boom, handmade cestus. The drone shivers again.

You reach back, only to realize that you've overworked this arm and it'll hurt like a bitch in the morning. You switch to your other, inserting your right hand into the 'bot's empty underbelly. Its legs tremble, but it remains otherwise lifeless.

You smash the wall.

"Like I said, there-"

You smash the wall.

"-doesn't seem to be any-"

You smash the wall.

"visible effect, so why-"

You smash the wall.

"don't we try-"

You smash the wall.

"Are you listening?!"

"Yeah. Go ahead."

You still smash the wall.

"We must flee while we are not yet found by another-"

"What, drone? That's all they had. Guard? Still got rounds. I'm not really seeing the problem-"

"The problem is that this is useless, you muscleheaded dunce!"

You give Evelyn a soft slap.

"Regain thine composure." She gives you an indignant look. "See this wall? It's not like most walls. This is the kind of wall made to keep people as strong as me in. When you hit," you smash the wall with your fist again, "all the damage goes right through. Basically," you repeat the motion, but this time, rubble can be heard falling off on the other side, "it starts breaking from the outside."
>>
Sorry, looks like I need to make a part 3.
>>
After two more strikes, there's a small hole in the wall. Evelyn lowers her head to peek through.

"Well?"

"It's the street! I can see it from here!"

Ain't that great. You wait a little. Then some more. Finally, you resort to drastic measures - you tap on the back of Evelyn's head. She responds immediately. You barely contain a smirk.

"Yes?"

"I'm, you know, not really done."

"Ah! Yes, of course." Evelyn straightens her back and adjusts her lab coat, followed by clearing her throat. "Quite."

In a few minutes and fewer drones, you find yourself on the other side. So do Evelyn and Darida. It's barely two meters to the sidewalk. Your first action when you step out into the sunlight is to stretch.

Then you head for the nearest tobacco shop. Evelyn notices your destination and grabs you by the arm. You draw a sharp breath of air and wince.

"Ah! Forgive me, I-I didn't mean to-"

"I'm fine, I'm fine..."

"But, all things considered, you should refrain from such vices. Or do you mean to tell me you also drink?"

"..."

"Darius..."

"Darius!" Now there's a familiar voice. ...Tina?

"Darius! Heyo!" Duva? What?

"What the fuck are you doing he- What the fuck are YOU doing here?!" You demand, unable to contain yourself.

"Don't be like that~!"

"How did you-" You begin, but are interrupted by Tina.

"We followed you, silly! Now, since you're keeping Darida, why don't you help out Duva, too?"

...

"Alright, fine," you concede. "She can stay with me."

"Yay!" Duva jumps on you and crushes you in a hug that's far too strong to come from a woman. Christ, what the fuck.

"And you..." You point a hand at Evelyn, though it's affixed to your torso by Duva's elation. "You're staying... With me... Too..."

"Wh-What?" Evelyn asks.

Duva finally releases you. You breathe a sigh of relief.

"I've got a home to return to," Evelyn continues.

"Yeah, great. Got anyone waiting for you?"

"No, that's not the case-" Evelyn suddenly stops and flushes red. "Th-That has to be the boldest invitation I've ever heard, Darius! You're absolutely shameless."

"What? No, I'm just saying it's not safe back at your place. Stay with us."

"Yeah," Duva pipes up. "Stay with us..." She narrows her eyes and smiles at Evelyn, who just waves her hand at Duva and chuckles, coupled with an "Oh, you..."

"Well?" You press. "How does that sound?"

"We won't be alone, so... I suppose it's okay."

Tch.

"Don't be such a prude, Eve," Duva chimes in again. "You're no good at bluffing."

Evelyn flushes again. Geez, you're usually better at reading poker faces than this.

"I am the BEST at bluffing! You don't even know!" Darida's up. Could this get any better? You doubt this in the last peaceful moments of your life.

While Evelyn introduces Duva and Darida to each other, you spot Tina trying to walk away.

"Hey!" You call her over. "Where are you going?"

You can tell your shout drew the attention of the lab trio.

"Ah~ I almost forgot!"

You get Tina's tongue down your throat for the second time today. It's a noticeably more drawn-out kiss, so you have much more time to appreciate the warmth and gleeful exploration that is now so characteristic of Tina. When she pulls back, there's a thin strand of saliva between her tongue and your mouth.

"Can I go now~?"

Uh.

You sigh.

"You've done enough damage for today. Dismissed."

"Then~ I'll see you later!"

Tina waves at you as she jogs away, as if in a hurry to be somewhere. You don't buy into it.

You walk back to where Evelyn, Duva and Darida await you in silence. The former and latter pout, while Duva looks at you expectantly.

"Well," you say, "follow me. It's not far."

Once you're all in front of your apartment, you unlock the door and welcome everyone.

"It might not be much, but make yourselves at home," you tell them, but once Evelyn, the first in line, has entered, you follow up, "and make sure not to break anything."

Duva smiles sheepishly at you and Darida wrings her hands a bit in response.

Inside, you place all the guns back where they belong. Darida appears a little upset that you won't let her play with them some more, but you're adamant about locking them away.

"Dinner's in the fridge, heat yourselves something." You eye the two girls who will be staying with you for good. "We'll go shopping for clothes and all that tomorrow. Evelyn?"

"I apologize, but I must return as soon as I am able. There is unfinished work at the laboratory that needs doing. That is, if the professor will have me back..." Evelyn responds with hopeful eyes.

"Alright, we'll talk to him." You look out the kitchen window. "This is strictly between me and him. We'll think of something tomorrow."

"I am very grateful."

You look back at her and smile.

"That's good. Remember that." You turn back, once more gazing at the streets stretching out below. "I'll have to call someone else up. Ayumi might be good at this, or maybe Ashley." Then realization strikes you. "Oh! Ishvara! She might have some free time."

Though, she did look like an office worker. Worth a try, in any case.

"Well, I'm off to bed."

"Not going to eat?" Duva asks.

"I'll be fine with just breakfast."

Truth is, you'd fall asleep right at the table if you sat down now. You shower and head to bed.

AAAAAHHHH IT WORK LIKE AK

>>
You awake with a sleepy Filipino girl on top of you. She rubs her eyes and mumbles a slurred "good morning". Upon receiving questions, particularly regarding her current location, Duva replies simply by saying you had no other beds. Darida, apparently, got up not too long ago.

You wonder how Duva would know. She spent the whole morning, if not the entire night, on top of you.

Evelyn is still sleeping on the couch when you find her. She's not receptive to your attempts to wake her up. You shake her, softly slap her, do everything you can think of, short of pouring water on her head.

Short of that, and whispering in her ear. You lean in, but just as you lower your head to her face, Evelyn's eyes flutter open.

"...Oh. Morning."

"Morning?" She seems confused, but also red-faced. "Were you-"

"Nah, got a big day ahead. Anytime you're up for it, though!" You straighten out with a swift contraction of your powerful back muscles.

That done, you head for the kitchen and grab what's still left in the fridge. Almost all of it, as a matter of fact. You're starving. When you set the food on the table, you find Darida already eating. She makes brief eye contact with you, then looks back at her food. Her face is also red.

Seriously, what is up with everyone?

"Feeling alright?"

"I sure am. Are you, um, feeling cold?"

...Uh.

You look down at yourself. You're pretty much naked, save for a pair of boxers. This is something of an oversight, now that you share a roof with two-plus-one women, although in your defense, this is how every morning of yours starts. You're not exactly ashamed of your body. In fact, the unsightliest thing about it right now is the shallow burn on your left arm. You touch it, and it stings.

You inhale your food, briefly instruct Darida on how to lock the door, show her and Duva the spare set of keys you keep and tell them both to stay inside. You're out the door the moment you're done.

Major Arraki meets you.

She opens her mouth to speak, but you interject immediately.

"We can talk on our way down," you tell her, then bolt down the stairs.

"I received another tip that you're hiding some sort of refugees."

"That again?"

"Yes, it was the same person," the Major says in between shallow breaths, "so I wanted to know if somebody's harassing you."

You stop in your tracks. Sari Arraki stops as well.

"You know, Major, you're very thoughtful." You step closer. "You wouldn't happen to be single, would you?"

"That's," Arraki begins, looking away, trying and failing to hide an embarassed smile, "That's not-"

"That's not the case? What a shame." You pretend to sound disappointed and hang your head low.

"No, I meant that's not within the scope of my job, but, um..."

"Hmm?"

"Well, uhm. Yes..?"

You give her a wide smile. You grab her hand, hold it tight and look her right in the eyes.

"Then stop by again. I'll be waiting."

You leave a flustered Black Wing officer behind you, choosing to flee scene by sliding down the rail in the middle. In two minutes at the most, you're on the ground floor.

If you're going to handle this situation with any degree of control, you need as many people on your side as possible. That they sent Sari Arraki in your case is a godsend. If it was somebody else, you'd be in much deeper shit, yet currently, it's more like a muddy puddle. Arraki will be an ally. You can tell.

It's a sunny morning when you set off for the Dome one last time, the third time in a row. Birds fly, grass grows, the sun shines and boy, do you have a lot on your plate right now. The trees all around provide some comfort, some relief, some contrast to the web being spun for, by and against you. You marvel at the sun-highlighted foliage and breathe the aroma of nearby smokers' tobacco - high quality, you note - both of which remind you of the time you spent in Bohemia. Time you spent as Shanoa's guest. It shaped you.

You don't have time to reminisce. Your ears perk up at the sound of rapid footsteps, women's shoes clacking against the pavement.

You turn to meet the approaching individual.

It's Helen.

"What up?" You ask her, doing your best impression of being calm and easygoing.

You are already scoping out every route of escape as Helen speaks her reply.

"Don't you 'what up' me!" Ah shit. It is about yesterday, isn't it? "Where's my diary?"

No, apparently not.

"What diary?"

"My. Pink. Diary."

"Nah, not ringing any bells." You know which buttons to push, of course. "But if you can remind me what you wrote inside, maybe it'll jog my memory."

"Mm..!" Helen balls her hands up into small fists.

"What's the matter? Too embarrassing to recite?"

"Hmph!" Helen begins to storm away, but you know better than to fall for it.

"If you want it back so bad, how about you do me a favor?"

"What... kind of favor?" Helen slows to a stop and turns to look at you out of the corner of her eye.

"I'll let you know later."

"Can you at least promise not to read it?"

"How do you know I haven't already?"

"Well, I trust you!"

"Sorry, I guarantee nothing." Lying to Helen, while tempting, is an exceptionally poor move. She smells lies like a hungry great white smells blood.

Helen waits for you to catch up, then walks alongside you. She doesn't speak a word the whole way to the Dome, which makes you appreciate both her behavior and exceptional looks.

If she wasn't so fucked in the head, she'd be prime wife material. Such a shame.

Well, time to Operate.

Thread end! I'm going to try something special for the "boss" operation next thread. I'll have to finish up that Perk Tree I've been working on.

Can anyone point me towards software to make it look readable? I can pastebin the whole thing, but that won't be too comfortable to read.

Almost forgot: thanks for reading! I'll see you on the 3rd or 4th of August. I'll announce it ahead of time, but the thread will go up around 6 AM GMT.
