Previously, on Avatar Quest.....

After interrupting a meeting between the adults to discuss building a settlement, you were berated by your father for expressing your opinion when it was not asked for in a meeting that you were not a part of. When Lee spoke up on your behalf, things quickly deteriorated, and the two decided to duel one another. Lee quickly gained the advantage; dodging your father's bending attacks and managing to knock him onto his back. But, your father gained the advantage when he lifted himself into the air on a pillar of Earth and began raining attacks down upon Lee. Worried about someone getting hurt, you stepped in, prompting your father to attack you. During the ensuing fight, you revealed that you were the Avatar. Your father panicked and prepared an attack that would have killed you, had your mother not intervened. Your father went off by himself, and you spoke with the others for a time before going to speak with him. The two of you reconciled, and he placed you and your mother in charge while he left to deliver a report to the Queen. At your recommendation, he also put Sena in charge. That night, under the moon, you successfully Waterbended for the first time before going to sleep, awakening to find bandits attacking.
>>
>Welcome to Avatar Quest. Here are the rules.

Decisions are made by vote. Each vote has a ten minute interval, after which, the option that receives the most votes it the one that is chosen.

There are no write-ins unless explicitly stated

Some options require rolls. In that event, rolls will be out of 100. Whether rolls succeed or fail is decided by the first three rolls. If one passes, then you succeed regardless of the other two. Rolls will really only occur during training, or when trying something new.
All decisions are final. If you regret voting for something, too bad. Think carefully before you make decisions.

Try to keep waifu bullshit to a minimum.

You decide to get your day started, and get up.

When you're greeted by the sight of your family and friends fighting for their lives against bandits, you know it's going to be an interesting day....

Your mother, Sonyo, Sena, and Ren are all trapped in nets. The others are busy facing off against a dozen bandits.

Bulo is using his Earthbending against a group of three men wielding swords. He is having little success against them, as his limited abilities are less effective with sand. However, he manages to knock one of his foes onto his back with a sand blast, but the other two are quickly closing in.

Felna and Galda fight side by side, each unarmed but still extremely dangerous. As you watch, Felna sweeps a bandit's legs out from under him, and Galda stomps on his throat when he hits the ground, crushing his windpipe. Their other two opponents back away slowly, looking fearful.

Lee skillfully evades the strikes of his foes, catching one man's arm and quickly breaking it before falling back into his evasive pattern.

Away from the others stands a man with a bald head and a dark mustache, observing the fight with a frown.

You figure that the bald man is the leader, and decide that the wisest course of action would be to take him out.

He sees you as you run towards him, and sends a blast of sand in your direction. You leap out of the way and counter with a sand blast of your own, which he dodges in a similar manner. Before he has the chance to counter, you fire a blast of fire at him.

His eyes widen in shock, and he barely manages to avoid the attack, leaping out of the way and landing on his side. He punches the ground, creating a wall between the two of you.

Glancing around, you see that Felna has been caught under a net, while Galda continues to fiercely battle with two opponents. Bulo has been captures as well, and Lee is desperately trying to evade the strikes of his foes.

Things are looking bad. With only three of you still fighting, the battle is looking impossible to win. With that in mind, you rush to free the others from their nets.

Turning your attention away from your foe proves to be a huge mistake.

As you make your way to the nearest netted person, Felna, you give Galda a little help by knocking one of her foes away with a sand blast. Galda continues fighting standing between the enemies and you as you move to free Felna. Before you can do much of anything, however, a large sandblast knocks both you and Galda to the ground. Before you can get up, a net is thrown on top of the two of you. It quickly tightens, squeezing you and Galda together and immobilizing you to the point where you can't Earthbend.

The bald man approaches, chuckling darkly.

"Well, we hit the jackpot today," he comments. "Some pretty women, some strong benders, and the Avatar."

He kneels in front of you. "Ming is going to be VERY happy with us. Of course, he'll be most happy if we don't have to kill any of you. I don't want to disappoint him, but if any of you cause trouble, you are going to die. And Avatar, you're too valuable a prize to kill. But, if you cause any trouble, I'll kill one of your friends, starting with the girl you were trying to free."

>D. "You've got a family of lordlings and relatives of the queen herself, along with the Avatar. Maybe you can barter with the queen for a rather nice ransom, but chances are more likely you'll all be crushed under sixty feet of solid rock. If we all suddenly disappear from this region, the queen will send an army to find you, and she will find you, and you'll all be hung before the month is out. And if you just let us go and walk away, we won't say a word.

Really, it's in your best interests to leave us be. We have little valuables with us, and we intend to set up a city. In exchange for our lives...I'm sure an understanding could be reached concerning your activities and trade routes to the capital. Things I won't talk about at sword-point."

For the record, my plan is to play hardball, and then when they get all mean, "Friends, friends, we can't expect negotiations with all of us angry like this. These are large matters, and negotiations may take a few days...instead of getting violent, lets take a night to mull over what was said, and take a fresh, calmer look in the morning." The idea is to delay until A) Their guard is let down, or B) until Daddy comes home.

Other ideas involve going to their camp as a hostage for negotiations, leaving everyone else here (to attack from without, we can also take Galda or Lee for protection), or launching them all into the lake at the first oppurtunity.

No.
Just no.

If a person already has you captured, improving your value only gives them a reason to keep you captured.

If a person has gone so far as to attempt to harm, or even kill, there can hardly be reasoning with them, as that is likely their purpose.

Also, the queen would have no reason to suspect any foul play, let alone that this one shit was responsible.

"Who's Ming?" you ask.

The bald man throws back his head and laughs. "Who's Ming? Do you really not know? Ming the Bandit King, the mightiest criminal in the Northern Kingdom!"

Now you remember; you've heard stories of Ming. He rules over many bandits with whom he terrorizes the kingdom; robbing, kidnapping, murdering, and so on. Some say that even the Queen fears him.

"Well, he knows who you are," the bald man tells you. "That is to say, he knows who the Avatar is. He's going to be very glad to meet you."

Suddenly, he scowls. "Will you idiots stop messing around and catch that brat?"

Moving your head, you can see that Lee is still fighting, though clearly losing.

"We don't have time for this," the bald man grumbles, leaving you and going to help the other bandits defeat Lee.

"If they take us to Ming, we're pretty much done for," Galda tells you. "We'll be killed, sold as slaves, or forced to join him."

"AHHH!" you hear from the Bald man, drawing your attention away from Galda.

You see him fall to the ground, smoke rising from his back. Felna steps over him and regards the other bandits, who have knocked Lee to the ground and are preparing to net him.

Three of the bandits rush towards Felna, while the others finish netting Lee. As they approach, Felna takes a deep breath. Once they get a bit closer, she breaths out with what sounds like a roar as flames come pouring from her mouth, engulfing the bandits, who fall to the ground, screaming in agony.

The other nine bandits back away slowly, but Felna doesn't let them get far before she begins firing a barrage of small fire blasts at them, scorching the flesh of many while the others flee. One drops his sword close to Lee, who manages to grab it and cut himself free with it. He stands and prepares to fight any of the bandits who weren't smart enough to run.

Felna takes a deep breath, this time to calm herself, and turns towards you, smirking.

Once the two of you are free, you get to your feet. Galda starts to speak, but Felna interrupts her.

"I'll explain everything later," she tells her sister. "For now, we need to free the others and decide what to do next."

You quickly create a high wall of sand in front of Felna, yourself, and Galda.

This sudden obstacle causes the archer to hesitate, and gives Felna the chance to duck. When the arrow is fired, it flies harmlessly over her head and into the lake. The archer has no way of knowing whether or not he hit Felna, but it's likely that he'll turn his shots on the others, who are still visible to him.

Taking a little peak around the wall, you see the archer taking aim at Lee, who strolls slowly towards the tree, a look of quiet fury on his face. The archer fires, but Lee has already begun leaning to the side, and catches the arrow by its shaft. He stares up at the stunned archer and breaks the arrow in two.

The archer desperately knocks another arrow.

Let's examine this post for a moment, shall we?

All this wall of sand did was 'give Felna a chance to duck'. This shows that the wall - on its own - would not have been enough (in Som's estimation) to save our friend.

However, I suspect he didn't feel able to kill her at this point because he's determined not to show how his detractors are right about his ridiculous habit of antagonism toward his players. So she 'ducked'.

You take a deep breath and bring your hands in, lowering them in front of you.

The archer fires another shot, which Lee dodges, getting closer to the tree.

As the archer prepares another shot, you thrust your fists towards him, unleashing a torrent of flame that strikes him directly, causing him to scream in pain and shock as the fire engulfs his body and he falls from the tree, the now burning branch falling on top of him.

Lee looks in your direction and gives you a nod of thanks before moving over to the fallen archer.

"Nice shot," Felna compliments.

She nods and runs towards her brother and the fallen archer. Galda, on the other hand, stays behind, and helps you release the others from their nets.

"So...since when can Felna Firebend?" Sonyo asks.

"That's what I want to know," Galda tells him.

"We can discuss that later," Ren tells the pair. "First, we need to make sure we aren't going to be attacked again."

"Several of the bandits escaped," your mother points out. "In all likelihood, they'll get help and come back."

"True, but we should make sure we don't have to worry about an immediate attack before we decide what to do next," Ren says

"If that archer survived, he might be able to tell us some things," Sena suggests.

"Well, he didn't survive," Lee says ad he and Felna approach. "Between the fall and the fire, he died."

Galda sighs. "That figures."

"Then we must act under the assumption that this spot could be attacked at any time," Ren says. "We should pick up camp and leave."

Oh, I know, I was mostly making a joke. Water in Avatar is about change, and that's why it's not very good at avoiding attacks. It's much better at accepting the energy of the attack and redirecting it to transform defense into offense. You want to dodge attacks you go air, block attacks you go earth, redirect attacks you go water and preventing your enemy from getting a chance to attack is fire.

I'm not sold on it. The bandits have earthbenders, too. Probably not many, but an earthen structure is potentially vulnerable. So is a wooden one, if they have firebenders. Your mother shakes her head. "Going off alone right now would be suicide."

"Yes! Let's kick some bandit butt!" Sonyo agrees gleefully.

"We barely managed to beat the last group," Ren points out.

"They attacked when most of us were asleep," Galda reminds him. "This time, they won't have that advantage."

"We'll need to be better prepared," you say. "We should raise some Earth walls around the area and fortify ourselves."

"Well, some of the bandits we took down had weapons we can use," Felna says.

"And some of the others dropped their weapons and fled," Lee adds.

Galda grins. "I'm gonna go see if I can find a pair of daggers."

She runs off to inspect the corpses, and both Ren and Sena go off to arm themselves as well. Your family gather around you.

She is right, time is of the essence. The attack could come within the hour for all you know. You set to work immediately.

Your mother, being a war veteran, is able to give you some direction. She tells Felna and Ren to run off and gather all of the large sticks and branches they can find, Galda to use her daggers to sharpen them all. She then instructs you to build large walls around the beach, which will at the very least keep any archers from getting a clear shot.

"If Mind gets word that you're the Avatar, he will certainly want to capture you, rather than kill you," she explains. "He won't just order his archers to fire blindly into the base; too much risk of you getting hit and killed."

You create a high wall of sand in front of the trees, and a high wall of sand on each end of the beach. You don't bother putting up a wall right at the lake. They most likely won't bother coming that way, and leaving it open gives you water to bend.

"Sand walls won't hold them well, but if there's an entrance, even a small one, their first instinct will be to go for that rather than to attack the walls," she tells you.

Taking her advise, you carve a small doorway out of the wall in front of the area that the bandits retreated in.

Galda, in the meantime, sets to sharpening everything that is brought to her, soon having a large pile of sharp sticks.

"Now, we want to make it as hard as possible for them to reach us," your mother tells you. "The less we have to actually fight, the better. Make some deep trenches around the base."

You do so, creating deep trenches all around the base, except in the lake, of course.

She then gets Galda, and the two of them soon come over with the sharp sticks.

"Rise the Earth at the bottom of the trenches," your mother instructs.

You do so, and both she and Galda begin planting the sharpened sticks in it before you lower it back do-

"Thank you," you say to her.

She gives you a bow. "You are welcome. Thank you for being such a good pupil and friend."

"So, where did you learn to do that?" you ask.

"Well, one time, I saw a dragon," she tells you. "And it breathed fire, so....I decided to try it out. And it worked."

"Hello, Shin," he greets. "The battle will be starting soon. Is there anything you need from me?"

not likely

"So, how do you feel about Felna being a bender?" you ask.

She scowls and starts to raise her blade before stopping herself and taking a deep breath.

"Felna and I agreed to talk about it after the fight," she tells you. "I'm not discussing it with her until then, and I'm sure as hell not going to discuss it with you."

Quickly changing the subject, you ask, "Do you think we have a chance of victory?"

She takes a look around. "Well, the base you set up isn't bad. It will make it harder for Ming and his men, at least. Really, I think it will come down to just how many men he has and how well he leads them, and of course, what other benders he has."

You decide to wait for the bandits to arrive.

It is over an hour before you hear anything; everyone remains relatively silent as time passes, either training, resting, or talking quietly to one another. The tension in the air is thick, as is the fear. Everybody is well aware that they may not be coming out of this alive, but they're all ready to fight until the bitter end.

When you hear the scream of the first bandit, you know the battle has begun.
