You are Sireyi Valyenya, 18 years old, you are on your first quest.

You're about to fight a bunch of pirates on an airship powered by lightning, the middle of a storm.

“Stormwings? Lightning Core?” you ask out loud, you’ve not heard these terms. You’ve moved inside after the announcement and are standing with some of the other passengers, after hearing the captains orders.

One of the card-playing passengers learns over and says “A pretty rare item m’dear, supposedly dedicated to a storm god” he chuckles “of course, the gods aren’t real, some sorcerers built it long ago to impress the ignorant. It gathers lightning from storms and converts it into magical energy. As part of an airships engine it would grant them unbeatable speed.”

“The stormwings are these winged harnesses that let the wearers fly, but only near the Lightning Core.”

“Supposedly the priests of the storm god could draw power from the ‘Core, a never-ending source of energy in a storm” he says “the stormwings were given to the gods warriors and had some different powers, lesse: flight, resistance to lightning, the ability to detect magic, something else, something else...” he trails off “either way, you’re going to see something that seldom graces the skies any longer, now must dash, need to hide the family jewels.” He bustles off.

You’ve decided not to get the crew to fight the pirates, stealth will win the day. Whatever you want to get over there to do, first you need to get there.

Will you?
>Leave the ship without anyone seeing you and fly over there (Sireyi and 1 other can go, not Bokin)
>Wait until pirate ship docks with yours (taking who?)
>Ride the Lightning to the ship (taking who?)

Leave.

>>33516307
>Sneak onboard with Gendric, Sofia and Jal
Bokin doesn't seem stealthy.
Reminder that RTL costs 5 divine energy for every person we bring and we have 27 max.
>>
>>33516307
I think waiting until the pirate's are docked might be a bit risky, seeing how the docking places would be swarming with them.
RTL might also be a bad idea, with the Lightning core and all, but we don't know about how it actually works, if it like attracts all lightning nearby to it or something then that might be bad... or really good if the lightning core is the previously mentioned magical item.
Wings could be too obvious.

So I guess I'm just going to mention these points for other anons.
>>
>>33516423
>>33516413
Ah, good points. Might be best to sneak aboard once the ship docks. mainly due to the cost of RTL. Also I would prefer to have everyone come with us. Last thing we need is someone getting raped or murdered while we are gone
>>
>>33516307
Can we wait for the docking then head on over as a group?

>>
>>33516507
How fast is Dimension door? Could we use it as a panic teleport from now on during fights, like we did with RTL against the slavers?
>>
>>33516549
It's a spell, so it takes a normal action to use.

Ok, so most popular option appears to be, wait until docking then head over as a group, writing
>>
>>33516584
>hint, it's not on yoir ship
I'm suddenly overwhelmed by paranoia.
Guys, what if we have to crush one or both of the ships, then crashland somewhere close to the item?
>>
>>33516584

Can we cast it on others, perhaps together with scrying?
>chronosphere
>>
You decide to wait until the pirate ship docks with yours, and then you will all head over together.
The pirate ship approaches the raises and lowers several flags, as does your ship.
Eventually something is agreed. A dozen winged forms launch themselves from the pirate ship and head towards yours, as they approach you can see they are humans and part-demons wearing harnesses with wings made from metal wire jutting from behind them. Tiny sparks play all over the wings.
They fly towards your ship and land on deck, giving orders to the crew and telling all passengers to go and wait in their cabins, that the pirate ship will be docking soon and that they should get their valuables ready.

You’ll need to decide where to go, whilst waiting for the pirate ship to dock, as the stormwing-equipped pirates are clearing the deck of people.

>Go wait in your cabin
>Hide somewhere on your ship
>Remain on deck, try to convince pirates you should be there
>Other

The Pirate ship is close now and its approach is slowing, you can see pirates on its decks reading grappling hooks and ropes. Electricity crawls across the entire ship, but seems more centered towards the lower decks of the pirate ship.

Around you the storm howls and heavy rain falls.

I think we need to try to find out more about this lightning core. If it is related to the storm god, what do we know about him? Would his followers/clerics be good-aligned? If so, they would probably be outlaws of some sort on this plane, and we could probably become friendly with them given that we're an angel with storm powers.

Storm flavored gods are almost always chaotic, and tend to be neutral or evil.
He could be a god of freedom just as easily, however, so I agree that we should find out.

I think these guys are just pirates using leftover magical artifacts of the god's followers.

>>33516863
We have no idea if they even worship the god that their things are supposedly made from, divine abilities are possibly traps, and that vote is already over.

I don't know. It's awesome, but very unpaladinlike to impersonate a deity.
>>
>Success
You and your companions hide in a room on one of the lower decks. You feel an impact as the pirate ship is dragged into contact with yours, pirates come aboard but do not find you.

You peer out of a porthole and see pirates ferrying loot from the passenger ship to the pirate ship, the two ships are held together with ropes, some at deck level but a few have clearly been thrown from the lower portholes of one ship to another, the portholes are open, its a tight squeeze but any of you except Bokin could make it.

If you don’t act now, the pirates will be gone. You could use magic to get across, or try to sneak on deck and climb across the higher ropes, or climb along the lower ropes and squeeze into a porthole.

How will you get onto the pirate ship?

>Use Dimension Door to get everyone across
>Ride the Lightning (open porthole counts) - pretending to be avatar of storm god optional

What.
That doesn't even make sense.
Did you not read the archives?
There can be multiple gods, and our lightning powers come from us being exposed to crazy-powerful storm elemental mana due to our mother being a diplomatic envoy to the Storm Court when she was carrying us.
It has nothing to do with any gods.

What if RTL gets drawn right into the core room?
Somebody would sense the burst of angel juice, we wouldn't be able to RTL out due to it just getting drawn back in, they probably don't worship the god, we can't redeem that many people so quickly, we'd have to fight everyone on the other ship even if this one surrenders to us, etc. etc.

Note, you cannot DD into a solid object, spell would just fail, even a blind jump will get you into some open space.

Only a single scry spell is needed to use DD multiple times on the same location

We are not taking the girls, are we? They are far too squishy for this, cannot handle themselves in a fight and don't seem the type to like dangerous situations.

We don't have to deceive them. We are an angel, we use storm magic and we were sent by a god.
I'm sure we can bend the rules some way, to get their respect without deceiving them too much.

Yes, that'll be next option

You gather your arcane energies and cast your senses outwards. It’s....hard to make out the room with the lightning core in it. The image in your head keeps distorting (Arcane Energy 32/34).

What you can see is a large metal engine, similar to the one in your own ship, steam is pouring from it and it seems to be running much faster than the one you’ve seen before. You think it has the lightning core within it, but the picture is too fuzzy to make out details.

You can see that there is a single man in the engine room, tending to the engine. You think the Lightning Core may interfere with nearby magic, you may be able to punch through the interference by using more power though.

You gather your arcane energies and open a doorway through to the engine room of the other ship. Gendric quickly dives through. It was easy opening that despite the interference (AE 27/34)

“Uh Sireyi? Says Sofia, pointing at your head, you have a storm on your head.”

You look up, your halo has appeared and is dancing with lightning. You didn’t make that happen.

Maybe being this close to the ‘Core is messing with your storm powers, in fact, there’s no maybe, you can feel your energies draining away (DE 26/27), lightning crackling around you.

All of your storm abilities beg to be released at once in a cascade of energy, like their power is trying to force their way out of your skin. You shut your halo off, you hope no one noticed the brief burst of divine energy it gave off.

Gendric is through safely. He can see the engineer in overalls and wearing thick goggles, he’s tightening a bolt on the vast smoky engine, muttering to himself. His back is to Gendric.

Gendric can feel wild magical energy in the air, using magic here might be difficult.

Gendric chases after the engineer and cuts him down with his swords, but not before the engineer is able to yell “Engine Room! Intruders!” into the brass horn.

Sireyi tears open a doorway into the room and steps through without incident (AE22/34).

This close to the Lightning Core, the draining effect is stronger (DE 24/27). Your lightning crown once again dances upon your head without you activating it.

The hot steam is thick in here, but you can feel the lightning core deep within that steam engine, it calls to you, you need to go to it and touch it, let it drink in your energies, as you will drink in pure power....

Gendric rushes over to the engineroom door and locks it, piling up anything he can find to block it.

You’ve resisted its call, for now.

You pull pieces off the engine, tearing away metal like its paper, although eager to get to the ‘Core you’re not doing so without thinking and instead you are carefully peeling parts off it. Part of the engine explodes, and you get a face-full of hot steam, very hot steam (HP 48/58).

You stumble back for a moment in pain, then you look at the engine, you can see IT.

The Lightning Core doesn’t look like much, a dull metal cube the size of your fist, but incredible lightning energies are dancing around it, maybe too much even for you to control or resist. It’s drawing in all the energy around it and feeding it into the now wrecked steam engine, it won’t be long before this engine holds more energy than it can handle, unless you remove the Core from it.

(DE 22/27)

Lightning Resistance has nothing to do with the draining effect, it does have to do with us not passing out from a severe electrical shock.
We can probably get the core to obey us after we make contact, it seems like that kind of artifact.
>>
Gendric speaks into the brass horn, confusing the pirates enough to delay a response.

You reach out eagerly and grab hold of the metal cube, not even your powers can completely protect you from the energies raging around it (HP 42/58).

As soon as you touch it you feel it drink in all of your power (DE 0/27, AE 0/34). It is agony.

And then it starts to drain your life-force (HP 32/58), but you cannot let go, it is not agony, it is ecstasy.

You’re not just using the power of the storm, you ARE the storm.

High above the world you rage, hurling lightning and stormwinds this way and that, in the middle of you, two tiny floating things are lashed together, creatures even smaller than they are crawling around inside them.

No, wait, that’s wrong, you’re not a storm, you’re Sireyi, you’re a half-angel and a paladin and a young girl, and this thing is KILLING YOU.

But now that you’ve touched it you cannot let go, you either bend this thing to your will or you die.

This is not a god, this is not a person, this is a thing, an enchanted object, and your will must win.

This thing draws in the energies of the storms, that’s why it’s draining your life, your powers are close enough to a storm elemental. But it also channels them, you need to force it to pour all the energies back into you.

Gendric

You see Sireyi, she’s kneeling on the floor holding some metal cube, lightning dancing around her, getting close to her would be dangerous, but she looks in a bad way, what should you do?

>Wait, lightning is her thing, she can do this
>Try and pull that cube away from her

With a supreme effort of will you force the lightning core to return to you everything it took, and more (DE 54/27, AE 68/34, HP 58/58).

But it’s not enough, you want....more. There’s a storm raging above you, you know you could pull it into the core and store it there, you know the core can handle it, the question is...can you?

With the dancing energies under your control, magic is safe to use again, safe as it ever is, anyway.

You decide that trying to drain an entire storm is a task for another day. You use our dimension door spell to get you and Gendric back to the room your allies are hiding in, making sure to don your draconic disguise before you do, and hide your halo (AE 62/34).

The lightning core seems to be constantly feeding you power in proximity to a storm (AE 68/34).

Out of the porthole you can see the pirates ship burning, a fire billowing from its hull.

You wonder if the pirates are going to try and save their doomed vessel, or capture this one?

“Sireyi?” asks Sofia hesitantly “Are you ok?”

Despite your admirable opinions, I would kindly request that you go to /pol/ or /b/ and debate them there.
>>
You watch as the pirates hurry back to their burning vessel, dropping the loot they are carrying. You can see some flying over there on those stormwings, it would be so easy to just reach out and pinch off the power of those wings. But it wouldn’t be very nice to just drop them to the ground below, so you let them fly back to their ship.

With the pirates panicking, your ship decides to leave, letting the pirates battle the blaze on their own.

You all hurry back to your cabin and pretend you’ve been there the whole time.

Well that was exciting. Indeed, it seems all that the ships passengers talk about for the rest of the trip was the pirate attack.

Some of the demon-blooded, those with purer blood, talk about a powerful explosion of energy that set the ship on fire, they can’t quite define it though “not arcane” one says “but something...other, a power of judgement, pure in purpose , and terrifying.” The general consensus seems to be that it was the Lightning Core malfunctioning and exploding.

Most of the passengers seem content with the explanation of the lightning core exploding. One doesn’t: a young demon-blood sorcerer, a scholar on break from university going home to visit his family – according to shipboard gossip. One day as he walks passed you in the corridor he says casually “Thanks for helping with the pirates...dragon-blood” and then walks off, looking quite smug with himself before you can react.
What should you do about this?

Caution is the best course of action for now, you don’t do anything, yet. After that one comment he keeps his distance.

You decide to spend your time with Jal, giving her language lessons, which are progressing erratically, and with Sofia.

Sofia seems to look up to you and is happy to talk about what you want to talk about. Please pick 2 topics only

>Her past
>Her future
>Her paladin powers
>Was there anyone she ‘did’ want to marry?
>Konig being her ancestor

About Konig, I wonder if it was the big man himself having some good time on a distant plane, or just a coincidence (?) like with the Valyenya

You ask Sofia about her plans for the future, she initially claims not have any but with a little careful questioning it seems that she never truly thought about it, since as the hereditary ruler of a nation, her path was chosen for her.

Now though, she seems to be focused on becoming a paladin – like you, though she has no idea what to do beyond this. How do you respond?

Please pick only 1

>Don’t worry, your path will come to you
>One day, we’ll go back and get rid of Ninver, then your will rule your people once more
>I don’t know if I’m the right person to emulate, but I’ll teach you what I can

Ninver will have to be dealt with before we leave this plane though.
>>
>>33521256
>Don't worry, your path will come to you.
The other two options are to direct her towards being a ruler or a paladin, respectively, it seems.
She should choose her own path in life.

>>33521295
Do we even meditate?
I know we pray, but I can't recall anything about meditation.
Might just have forgotten.
>>
>>33521256

“Don’t worry” you say “your path will come to you”

Marriage might be a tricky topic to broach with Sofia, but you try anyway.

“Is there anyone you did want to marry?” you ask.

“Not really” she responds “Anyone I got close to was chased of by Ninver or his cronies, what should I look for in a husband anyway?”

Ah.

“Someone you love” you say “an equal, and who treats you as an equal, someone who inspires you”

She gives you a funny look “You meet two of those three” she says archly “if only you had been born a man.” And then laughs at her joke.

The rest of your journey passes uneventfully. You fly across majestic landscape, now fully controlled by an evil empire. You see strange wonders in the places you visit, and at last you reach your final stop, the city of Arrowgate, in the province of Malgor.

As you disembark with your friends, you stand on a long queue to go through customs. Fortunately they just seem to be waving people through with a cursory check of luggage.

As you approach the airdock guards, one looks at you with a grunt of recognition and says “Ah, one of your fellow passengers told us about you, step this way please” He indicates an area off to the side, away from the long queue. A group of guards in red armour are standing around over there, watching everything through lazy eyes.

As you turn to follow the guard, to see the young sorcerer student out of the corner of your eye, just having passed through the customs check. He seems to be giving you a mocking wave, you turn to look at him and he blows you a kiss, before picking up his bags and walking off.

The problem though is that what you describe is still an 'equal' relationship. It doesn't mean you do everything half. You give your partner what they need and so do they. Generally as long as one person isn't giving or taking more than the other the relationship is stable. Thats what being equal partners means to me anyway.

To any anons that search for errors: while I *do* appreciate having other spotters, I usually find most of the errors.

Assuming I miss any, of course.

Rules Error:
Since we can no longer get Crown of Rulership or Queen of Battles, you should probably remove them from the power purchasing list.

CS/Rules suggestion:
Please put (R), (N) or (E) next to each spell in our spell list and spell purchasing list.
(R) means Rapid: the spell can be cast in conjunction with a regular action (Halberd, Lightning Storm). EX: Breath spells, Sanctify!
(N) means Normal: the spell takes a turn to cast. EX: Dispel Magic, Dimension Door
(E) means Extended: the spell's casting time is measured in hours. EX: Minor Planar Binding
This should help us with knowing what spells are great for combat and which ones are...less so.
I only chose Dimension Door for that first round of spell buying because I thought it was (R).
CS suggestion:
>(p)Willpower- 19 (+4) Lightning Halo 29 (spells only, +9)
Would be better as:
>(p)Willpower- 16 (+3) Angel's Magic 19 (+4)

>Willpower Rolls:

Question/Request Dump Time:

Our Halo applies a malus to evil creatures, and demons always detect as evil.
It also applies a bonus to all allies.
How does it behave in regards to demon or part-demon allies?

Can we choose lower levels of Aspect of the Dragon to turn into?
I.E. If we had L2 AotD, could we use the L1 transformation?

When you say, 'or a combination of both' in the AotD transformation description, does that only apply to the wings or would we go full fluff-dragon?

If we got Permanent Sanctuary, could we turn it off completely or suppress it to the point of it not giving us away?

Requesting a WorldBin update with a seperate section for this new world.

Requesting a segment on Perils of the Arcane in the Rules pastebin.
To clarify, I'm aware of how wild magic tends to work and not asking for a detailed list of results; I'm requesting a brief segment explaining what it is and what can cause it to activate.
And maybe a few humorous examples of effects it could have.

Requesting that Whispering Wind be added to L1 spell list as an N spell and purchased immediately with that one NL1 purchase point we have left.
Reasoning: Wind is one of our domains and WW was previously seen on Jianxi's L1 spell list. That purchase point is driving me insane.

>Is what we ended up doing what you intended to lead to getting a hold of the box and mastering it?

You took a more direct path than expected, the box was the prize for triple 20, but success was not guaranteed. Touching the box as a result of failing the willpower check to resist its siren call would have resulted in higher DCs and more damage, so maybe touching it as soon as possible was the right choice.

>Was feeding on the storm an impossible feat or just DC20+ willpower check?

Willpower check DC 20, failure would have exploded the pirate vessel though.

The next quest I would like to run after PoJ would likely be at least a year away.

The second option

Essentially, (female) MC has several husbando options, and can sleep with them when she wants to, or is feeling lonely etc.

Sex scenes would not be the goal of the quest, just part of the story, like relationships, fights with foes, and dealing with everyday shit like a boss that hates you and the ghost of your crazy grandfather who won't leave you alone.
>>
>>33522348

Did the pirate ship have some special machinery to aid the box, or could we just fly up high during a storm and try to absorb that one, when we're feeling more confident?
I kind of want to have a storm in a box.
>>
>>33522424
Anon...
We've already landed, the storm is likely dozens if not hundreds of miles behind us.
We've just been detained by the demonic secret police.
>>
>>33522413
Future fantasy

A galaxy with faster than light space-travel as well as superheroes and magical creatures.

The story would focus more on superhero than space-battles or fantasy though, due to the main character - and the villains being super-powered individuals.

The story would revolve around the MC trying to have a normal life despite a rather fucked-up upbringing.

Of course, supervillains out to kill you gets in the way of that too, because your grandfather made sure you were the last person to possess a (allegedly) unbeatable power he taught you how to use.

As for crunch, I'd run this either with the same base rules-set of PoJ, or a (modified for forum play rather than face-to-face) version of the rules I built the setting in. Which is my own pet homebrew.

In MS word the total filesize of the rules and setting is 20mb

>>33522424
You can fly up into a storm and try and take one, just don't bollix the roll.

The pirate ship had machinery that was designed to integrate it with the engine more than anything else.
>>
>>33522609
Sounds cool, just don't end PoJ early because you're excited for this other idea, please.
And don't try running two quests at once, that never ends well.

>>33522424
>>33522588
Also, I know realize he was talking about *any* storm, not the one around the pirate airship in particular.
The phrasing confused me slightly.
