The problem is actually my increasing tendency to dilly-dally before I even starting writing. Sometimes it's that I have to rewrite a bit to get exactly the right tone, but that's generally just Adelle's dialogue - I rewrite her dialogue a lot more than everyone else's, because she's supposed to be socially quite adept which means I try to make sure players like her.

Hey, some great authors wrote one-dimensional characters. Charles Dickens, plenty of Tolkien's characters, plenty of George R.R. Martin's.

A lot of characters aren't worth putting more effort into - it'd be a waste of the reader's time. Adelle is the most multidimensional character in this quest and you've done her in a well-paced and believable manner.

Also cartoons are great.
