Last we left off we left Basarat and were just getting home. The new slaves were being freed and settled in and after defeating the horde things were looking up for our people.

Two years pass and several children have been born, mostly drow. Our trade deals have been very profitable putting some of the dwarven steelworkers out of business in Basarat, leaving an opening for us to hire them to come here.

Our numbers continue to swell and our military might continues to grow as well, with many people volunteering to defend and expand our civilization. We even have had some contact with the eastern gnomish city states, who unfortunately are extremely paranoid about other people getting their technology and use it instead to flood the market with superior goods over their competitors.

Rumors from the east indicate that war is brewing there.

Whats the plan

A) Pay a visit to Basarat
B) Send an official delegation East
C) Other
>>
>>33493099
lets snatch up those dwarf steel workers and expand production

we can also keep our ears open for rumors about the east ant the continent in general while we're there
>>
>>33493130
You take a party to Basarat and when you arrive go to the market district. You find several steel shops shuttered closed and track down their owners. You offer them jobs working for us in our city, most agree giving us several experienced steelworkers and their families. We then move onto the slave market where there are three items on sale, a group of humans from the imperial slave markets, a group of high elves captured in the northern wars, and a strange looking tall, pale human with jet black hair being sold individually. When you scan him with the rod its almost like he is resisting your attempts to read his mind.

What do? Do we want to buy these? We have plenty of cash
>>
>>33493832
inquire how much the humans and high elves will cost

and question the pale human openly, what is his story?
>>
>>33492762
sage
>>
>>33494378
you bumped it though
>>
>>33494207
They all cost 10 each, so 30 total for all of them.
You ask the slaver about the strange human and he claims that he is a knight and a vampire captured in the far north by the empire. The humans are common slave stock from the empire and high elves are apparently taken from a town in territory which the western empire recently annexed.

You take the strange human aside and ask him his story yourself. He seems to drop some of his mental dicipline as you sense range and defiance towards his captors, he claims he is a part of an order from the far north, that he was protecting lands under his order's purview from the empire when he was captured. He also claims to be a knight-errant in the Order of the Blood Orchid.
>>
>>33494422
rookie mistake on his part
>>
>>33494478
buy and free the humans and elves. Ask the vampire if we free him would he rather join us or return north to his order, also question him about more general info about the order and the north.
>>
>>33494599
You buy and free the elves and humans sending them back to our city while you go and talk further to this vampire. He explains that the empire is fighting multiple large scale wars of conquest, in an attempt to make the emperor more popular and distract from internal issues. He is a part of small order of vampires that defend a string of mountain towns near the empires borders. In the past they have defended the locals mostly from orc raiding parties and bandits but they have nowhere near the strength to take on the empire themselves with a few bloodknights and a couple hundred human militia. Apparently their founder believed that his condition was a gift from god to defend the weak and that they require blood to live because god wanted them to have to be reliant on the people.
>>
>>33494787
What now?
>>
>>33494787
whats the strength of the empire in the north and the vampire knights respectively?

buy and free him, send him back to the north with a diplomat and five of our special operators as bodyguards. we need more information on this situation
>>
>>33494997
The western empire is massive with around 200,000 inhabitants and its legions have tens of thousands in them.
>>
>>33495587
Was >>33492978
our stats after the two year leap?
also how much cash do we have?
>>33494810
Ask the knight that if he bought him, and freed him what would he do?
>>
>>33495799
I havent done the stats after the 2 year leap, but the main change was children, a few new slaves and some dwarven craftsmen so basically bump up the numbers in almost every category for a small amount.

>>33495799
You ask the knight what he would do if you purchased him and granted his freedom, he says he would like to get home to serve his order again, but fears it is already too late. He says that he will swear fealty and serve you as his new lord as long as he is not made to break any oaths he has sworn. The oaths are to not slay the innocent, to protect the weak, and seek justice against the guilty
>>
>>33495799
>Ask the knight that if he bought him, and freed him what would he do?

this
>>
>>33495922
Buy him, has our military changed in two years?
Look into focusing more trade with the gnomish city. And looking into new tech breeding the horses.
>>
>>33496032
You buy the vampire knight and he swears fealty to you and your heirs. You then leave the slave markets and head to the tavern. You go in with a few of our people buy some drinks and talk to the patrons. The first thing you notice is that there are few of the mercenaries that typically frequent the bar, although there are still many merchants from out of town. You hear rumors about trade with the east becoming less frequent and that there may be a possible war brewing in the east. Apparently the city states are hiring out all of the mercenary companies. After this you leave and return back to our city.
>>
>>33496446
look into strengthening our defenses, do any of our people have any talent for engineering or architecture?

also look into secondary sources of water in case somebody captures or poisons our aqueduct
>>
>>33496446
Upon your return you realize that our people will need to do a lot of travelling and resolve to improve our horse breeding program, as well as building a proper stable and holding pen for the horses.

You also see Jericho training several new recruits in the training yard on the finer points of melee combat and Coren teaching a group of adults and children basic magic outside.

You assign Rafael, the blood knight as your chief bodyguard as well as our cavalry master, having him oversee the breeding of the horses and the training of a proper cavalry unit.

A few more weeks pass and some of the passing merchants say that there is now war in the east, with the gnomish city states fighting each other for territory and trade rights. Shall we send a delegation to the region?
>>
>>33496527
yes, send a squad of regular guards to escort them, and have the special forces accompany as well with them keeping an eye out for trouble while staying hidden
>>
>>33496527
Yes send.
What does our military look like now. Alogn with the gold we have on hand?
>>
>>33496516
You have our engineers and builders extend the wall around our farms and the mines, granting additional defenses, we also have several small wells dug around our settlements as a secondary water source
>>
>>33496634
>>33496620
You send a delegation of 20 people on horse back with 2 diplomats, 8 regulars and 10 special ranger troops. They are bringing 400 gold pieces with them out of our 1000 total that we have with the hope that they can purchase some technology while we are there.
>>
>>33496639
Create Mage barracks and archery center.
We need to focus on the things we excel at.
Having dwarfs and orcs and humans as the front line.
We can kill anything before they come with in 20 feet from our front line. More focus on battle mages.

This is before the time leap. I believe I have most things right. Added gold as I know that.

The delegation sent east finally arrives at Styria, one of the gnomish city states. They are impressed with the advanced machinery they see, with massive forges working on producing goods and people riding around on pairs of wheels with a seat in the middle that seem to be powered by people pushing a pedal that moves gears, the gnomes call them bicycles.

We also see heavily armed and armored guards on every street corner as the city is at war and on high alert. When we inquire into purchasing some of the gnomes military equipment we are rebuffed and are told that their government has banned the sale of of equipment to third parties. However we flash some gold in the merchants eye and he takes you around to the back of his shop. For 100 gold he is willing to sell a few advanced repeater crossbows in nondescript cases to us. He also is willing to sell some of the gnomes armor, which is made of steel, but it somehow lighter and stronger than anything we can make. Sets of armor are made to be flexible and can fit anyone of a certain race, hes selling them for 100 a piece as well.

What do?
>>

Back at home Coren sets up a record system, using the lineages and blood relations to help find more people with magic potential so we can start training them at an early age. The program is successful at finding 6 suitable children who will serve as the first class for our magic academy. What would you guys like the class to focus on (choose a magic type)

Veras and his men pay 200 gold for the crossbows and the advanced armor leaving us with 200 gold left. We hide our goods in nondescript packages and place them in our tavern room under guard.

There are several points of interest in the city where would you like to go?

A) The tavern
B) The slave markets
C) Leave to another city
D) Other
>>
>>33498143

See if we can pick up some new magic spell books for our mages?

B) the slaves!
>>
>>33498187
>>33498117
The first mage class chooses to study necromancy under Coren they will learn the basics of magic in general and then some moderately advanced necromancy spells

Meanwhile in Styria, Veras hits up the bar, going to the tavern to see if he can get some information. He gets a drink and sits down with a couple mercs who are talking about the upcoming campaign. Apparently Styria and a few other cities states are fighting another set of city states led by Tirolia. None of the city states have large armies so they rely on foreign mercs to do their fighting for them. These mercs are particularly happy as they are flush with cash from their contract and talking about the rumors of an arrangement between some of the mercenary company commanders that they won't do any serious fighting against each other but make sure they put on a good show for their employers. While this war is going on there are also rumors of gnoll raids becoming increasingly frequent against larger settlements. There are even rumors of the gnolls becoming united under a powerful sorceror.

After a few more drinks you walk over to the store fronts and look for anything selling magic materials. You find a legit looking shop with several tomes for sale. Three books catch your eye, There is a text on advanced illusion, a text on aeromancy and a text on advanced enchanting. They are being sold for 20 gold a piece.
>>
>>33498604
acquire all three, use the rod to see if we can figure out a way to get a discount
>>
>>33498604
Buy text on advanced illusion.
We can create a a huge skeloton work force doing the mines and farms. free's up more hands to work building magic schools/stables/ inns/ shit to bring in more cash
>>
>>33498604
Buy them all!
Then we buy the slaves!
>>
>>33498807
>>33498794
>>33498753
You use the rod to scan the owners thoughts for a way to get a discount and find out he has a special deal with one of the magic schools in town.

You try to persuade him that you are a student at the magic academy of Styria and that you forgot your identification to try to get the discount, roll a d100 for results, higher is better fyi, ill average the first 3 rolls

He believes you and gives you a 25% discount on the books you walk out of the store spending 45 gold instead of 60 on the three books and make your way over to the slave markets. You are impressed by the size of the huge barges plying the river trade and occasionally docking at the city, unloading and loading various goods. A line of drow slaves chained together catches your attention. You count at least 50 in the group, and based on the varying ages in the group it looks like they almost enslaved a whole village. There are also large numbers of orc barbarians being brought in for sale and a small group of vampires along with some humans. Each group is going for 50 gold we have 165 gold remaining. What do?

>>33499163
The orcs seem to be cowed with fear of such an advanced civilization and large city, the drow are angry and seeking revenge, the vampires and human group seem resigned and defeated, you notice they are all men, after further inspection you read that they are survivors of a battle with the empire, sold into slavery.

For the next couple years you focus on our peoples economic development, leading to population growth and our people starting to fill the city as well as establish small satellite villages around the city for lumber and farming. We also increase the scale of our mining operations and open up several new forges. All in all we see a large population increase and production increase across the board. In addition our people begin to form a more cohesive culture with music being developed that features mostly native drow instruments, but with some instruments from the human empire and orc lands. It even has a bit of a northern dwarven flair. This leads our people to a decision to rename our city and give this fledgling infant nation a name?

Well I guess we do have a ruined city with a bunch of dark skinned people so it fits the namesake....

We call our city Detroite

In the time that has passed the war between the eastern city states has continued inconclusively until recently when one of the lesser city states was sacked by a Gnoll army under a powerful named Tartarian, rumor has it he uses dark magics and demons themselves march in his armies.

A few weeks after you first here these rumors, refugees begin arriving at our city from the east.

What do?
>>
>>33502384
Uh let em in? And start beefing up our defenses
>>
>>33502384
Today op was a cool guy

>>33502440

>>
>>33502384
rod read them before letting them in, I dont want no daemon sabotuers in our city
>>
>>33502440
>>33502685
>>33502689
You create a camp for the refugees to stay in outside the city and start using the scepter and a security pat down to check each person you let inside the city. As you scan the refugees you find several demonic cultists and it starts becoming clear to you how the gnoll army so easily sacked a well fortified city state if they had help from the inside. Most of the refugees are gnomes with some humans mixed in. The refugees report scenes of horror and claim to have witnessed demons and gnolls slaughtering the cities inhabitants, their meager armies able to do little but slow down the invaders. There are even rumors within the refugees that some witnessed the beginings of demonic blood orgy over the corpses of the dead.

What should we do with the captured cultists?
>>
>>33502980
torture for info, (outside of the city) then kill, have the bodies sanctified then burned
>>
>>33503024
This
>>
>>33503024
>>33503136
You have the cultists placed in a special holding area until night, when you take them out into the fields 10 miles out of town, accompanied by a priest, 10 soldiers and 2 mages with counterspells ready. You have them(4) dig ditches, give them their last rites and execute them. You then burn their bodies and have a spell binding them in place used, finally you the ditches back in and ride back home.

Nothing much happened for a few weeks after that, during which we put the refugees to work, building extra defences, reinforcing the walls and the gates and digging a defensive ditch around the city.

This morning however, you can see a new group of refugees, bigger and more ragged this time. You are surprised to see Captain Jarvan leading the procession along with a few of his lancers and several other mercenaries. They say that they went in with an army to retake the fallen city and were crushed by the might of the demonic horde. After the battle he and his surviving men got out of dodge and fled west, meeting up with a group of refugees and some other mercenaries along the way. He thinks that city states will fall within the next 6 months and that the demons will likely move west when they are finished with them.

What do?
>>
>>33503376
gather an expeditionary force under the guise of saving a city state (the one we visited), time to loot some technology
>>
>>33503424
We contact Basarat and request aid in setting up and deploying a expeditionary force, we also gather the fleeing mercenaries into a cohesive force under Jarvan and get them organized for a fresh campaign.

Alright I think im done for now. Thread was kind of slow today I dont know why.

Thanks for playing
