LAST EPISODE: You made a business arrangement and remodeled.
- - -
Mitsuko of the Dark Water slowly descends from her floating position down onto the ground of the newly re-designed, open-air, ballroom. Red PKE crackling from her hands.

Her small feet touch down on the wet floor, the blackish water swirls and pools around her.

Sato clears his throat. "Mitsuko of the Dark Water, I greet you as a member of the Ghostbusters organization, and a representative of the city of Tokyo and the Nation of Japan. Your presence here is unwelcome and we request that you remove yourself from this plane of existence to the nearest dimension of your convenience. If you wish assistance in this transition, we are more than willing to help facilitate that move."

Akira looks at Sato. "Really?"

"It's in the handbook." Sato says.

"Guys...focus." Star says.

Mitsuko tilts her head at you four and smirks. "You give ME such orders? I have defied the wishes of Kami and other great powers. Do you think yourselves as greater than gods?"

> Your answer?

"We have defeated gods before. We will do so again. Gozer comes to mind as someone who went out like a chump."

Bump

By the way guys, I just realized it but I still gave myself a good smack on the head.

All those killings we did, the vampire, the youkai, us letting the Kitsune go. . .we could've COMPLETELY avoided it.

Next time we get back to base, we need to construct ourself an Atomic Destabilizer. It turns physical matter into ethereal (ghost) matter, and turns non-ghost entities into ghosts to be captured.

The Ghosbusters used it to capture the Boogeyman who previously they couldn't touch, and it was the go-to weapon for daemons like Azrun
http://ghostbusters.wikia.com/wiki/Atomic_Destabilizer
http://ghostbusters.wikia.com/wiki/Destabilizer

We get these', we'll be able to trap that Kitsune once and for all.

---

On another note, if Yurei is still suffering from Anti-PKE and we want to prevent her from passing on
ignoring the ethics about that
we could invest in either an Molecular Phase Amplifier or an Ethereal Solidifier, to stabilizer her form.

>>33476974
You should ask Gozer, I bet he's tasted loads of gods and minor dieties in the worlds he's eaten.
>>
>>33476816
The Ethereal Solidifier might also be useful in trapping the Rage Spirit when we go after her eventually. If we can modifiy it into a ray form.

Star opens first with a Stasis Stream.

Akira, as always goes for the proton stream.

> Your turn.
> Remember that you have YOMI-1 up here with you, if someone goes to operate her, you can turn on the Spotlight Proton Cannon and use that, or get the Super-Slammer up and running.
>>
>>33477725
Let's save our Big Guns for when the enemy shows their trump card. For now we need to test her abilities.

This is a very powerful entity, so let's start shaving away some of that power with blasts from the Boson Darts tracing the proton cannon (in game, the Boson Darts and the proton stream can be fired at the same time, and the Boson Darts can be guided by the stream).
>>
>>33477725
Tell Sato to get the Yomi-1 working.
We'll go for a stasis stream.
>>
>>33477725
Should we get Sato to use the Proton Cannon, or do it ourselves?

Thinking back, Sato installed and used it last time, right? He has the most experience with it?
>>

Boson Darts/proton stream on the ghost. Let's whittle it down a little first.

I dunno capatcha, boson darts are designed to lead to fiery destruction of the prostate

>>33477826

>Let's save our Big Guns for when the enemy shows their trump card.

>This is a very powerful entity, so let's start shaving away some of that power

I'm with this mindset, but hoping to weaken her to a point where we may give her the option we gave Kayako. She is just a kid, after all.
>>
>>33477810
Akira shoots his proton stream at Mitsuko, and with a gesture a wall of water rises up from the wet ground and blocks it.

Star's stasis stream has the same reaction, but the wall instantly hardens into crystal and then collapses on its own weight.

You crack off a boson dart at her, while she's looking surprised at the counter to her trick.

After this we need to preemptively spray Posi-slime on any and all water. That stasis stream trick only worked because she was actively manipulating it with PKE, but should also be effective next time she tries it.
>>
Rolled 14

>>33478100
She does that damn trick again, a wall of water blocks your blast from ever getting close to her. On the plus side, the boson dart completely evaporates the water.

Sato tries to see what a blast of slime can do.
>>
>>33478107
With posi-slime, isn't there always the threat that it could be turned into red or black slime, like what happened with the bucket of slime that took our sister, and with that one Gentleman's Club guy?
>>
Rolled 19, 17 = 36

>>33478186
Well, it doesn't to anything to Mitsuko, who teleports to the side, out of the way of the slime cascade, but when it hits the water, it sizzles and bubbles and the foul black color of the water fades away.

"MOMMY! HELP ME! PLEASE MOMMY!" Mitsuko shouts, and blasts a mass of red PKE at the wall.

Red cracks start to form on the wall, and they instantly start to leak water. Something's pushing through.

Mitsuko closes her eyes and concentrates and, again, red PKE starts to charge up around her.

Star and Akira continue with their current tactics of stasis and proton.
>>
>>33478249
Yes, but the upshot of which is that also drains the power of anyone who tries to do it. Not even ghosts can break the law of conservation.

Also, the answer to that is keep dumping more posi-slime, because eventually you will neutralize it same way an acid neutralizes a base. Rookie and the Original Ghosbusters had to posi-slime a ton of black slime and black slime netherportals.
>>
>>33478267
Again, Star's stasis beam seems to be an excellent way to break through her water wall trick.

Actually, from that last shattering, there's not any Foul Water present, just the slime and stasis crystals.

Which means that Akira's blast hits the brat dead center. She howls in pain.

There's a loud CRACK as the thick beam of energy slams into Mitsuko and sends her FLYING across the room.

She SLAMS against the wall with enough force to cause a huge impact crater.

"SATO! TRAP NOW!" You yell.

Sato chucks out a ghost trap, right in front of the wall and the dazed Mitsuko.
>>
>>33482273

With a scream and a wail Mitsuko is sucked inside the ghost trap.

"YOUNG LADY!" You shout as you jump out of YOMI. "YOU. ARE. GROUNDED!"

The trap slams shut with a snap.

There's a pause. The little light on the trap blinks for a bit.

Then the walls start to leak again, only the water is clean and pure. It's also filled with more of those little yellow sparks.

"Not as many as Sadako or Kayako." Star says as she watches the little flecks of light go up into the air and disappear.

"Hey, if they are what we think we are, I say freeing one of them is a big win for us." Sato says.

Akira nods. "But why was she so powerful? I don't think she was a Legion Entity, or was a psychic in life."

"Maybe cause she was the last Avatar? All of Oiwa's power was going to her?" Sato says as he goes to retrieve the trap. "Maybe the yokai did something, who knows. We won. Let's get down from here, get YOMI home, Akira to the clinic, and this bitch in the Containment Unit where she be-

That's the point where the ghost trap holding Mitsuko explodes in a burst of red PKE.

Sato is knocked to the floor by the shockwave. The rest of you are forced back, covering your face and eyes.

Mitsuko is hovering there. She looks bad. Her legs are completely gone, and half of her face is missing as well, you can see right through her.

There's a sense of...less...to her. She's a bit more translucent than before, and there's no PKE cracking around her hands. Her hands are also slightly fading in and out.

She looks like she must have expended a LOT of PKE to break free. Too much. More than just that red PKE she was generating.

You can see her try and flex her insubstantial hands to generate more...but nothing comes. In fact she makes a whimpering grunt and drops to her hands and 'knees' on the ground.

"Help...please...anyone...help me!" She sobs. "I can't...I can't...they took all my Mommies...they took my sisters...I can't hear Grandma Oiwa...help me...help me, help me!" She sobs.

Before any of you can get a bead on her, throw a trap, or in Sato's case, get back up, a green flame bursts to life on the wall you forcibly introduced Mitsuko to.

"Come child!" A voice says. "Hurry!"

You see something through the flame. It looks like a...a fox headed woman in a green kimono. It's not the same one who's hand you blew off.

Mitsuko lunges for the flame.

You're the first one to get your wand out, and the only one with a clear shot.

You can try and re-capture Mitsuko, but it's not going to be an easy shot.

However, you notice something else. There's still some little flecks of light being freed from the water. They're not disappearing like normal. They're being sucked towards Mitsuko again.

If you sprayed slime, that would probably be enough to keep them free and clear. However, Mitsuko would get away.

Or if you don't care about Mitsuko, and want to try for the BIG brass ring, you can try and fire a Boson Dart at the flame portal. If it hits, you'll not only hurt the kitsune, but the portal will be sealed and Mitsuko won't get away. However, the odds are worse than trying to just capture Mitsuko.

It is a first, but not unexplainable. During the IVO incident, the ghosts had apparently grown stronger that the usual pull of the trap didn't work and they had to be wrangled in (in the film, all the ghostbusters had to do was get them over the trap and then they could turn off their stream)

Who knows what the 100 blood moons are doing to these ghosts.

She's obviously important to them, so we can let them have her and use her.

>>33482823
Even if they are caught in the trap with Mitsuko, the containment unit is peaceful and it's better than the alternative ways to be trapped on earth. They'll simply have to wait a bit longer for the afterlife, but they'll still get there eventually on judgement day when trumpets sound.

>>

Damnit. Too late. Why aren't we protecting the souls again?
>>
>>33483045
Because we risk damming even more souls if Mitsuko gets into their hands, also if we trap mitsuko we trap the souls as well, ending their suffering at least even if it isn't afterlife.
>>
>>33483071
I'm just thinking she's going to absorb hundreds of peoples' souls, and we don't have a realistic way to free them. Stopping her can happen later. Saving those souls will be much more difficult.
>>
>>33483138
Stopping her will be much harder later, as for freeing their souls the ghostbusters have a LOT of souls in their containment unit. Thousands of ghosts were once living human souls. All of them need to be freed, eventually, but the important thing is they aren't hurting anyone else or themselves anymore in the containment unit. They're at peace, not eternal peace, but peace nonetheless.
>>
>>33483138
As for freeing them, the only surefire way is to help them dissipate from this mortal realm. Like how all the sparks just vanish, they pass on and no longer exist in our world but the next, as the soul is immortal.

Hundreds of thousands of souls that Ivo Shandor absorbed to become a god passed on when the ghostbusters destroyed him and the entire Gozer universe with Total Protonic reversal (as well as any souls who were trapped in the Gozer Realm more than likely). Would that we could afford to do the same to our containment units, but we can't for now.
>>
>>33482972
Your beam streams out and just barely snags around her wrist.

You pull it back with every ounce of force that you can and Mitsuko is jerked back for just a fraction of a moment.

However, you are not alone. That gap in time is just enough for three more capture streams to streak out and grab her and toss her, slamming her against another wall.

"Told you we were going to give you a spanking!" Akira says as he tosses out his own trap.

"NO!" Mitsuko sobs. The little flecks of light that were gravitating towards her now turn away and disappear.

"Damn." The kitsune says. The fire disappears instantly.

Mitsuko is sucked into the trap, again.

You all spend about five minutes staring at the trap, proton wands pointed directly at it. Nothing happens.

You all sag in relief.

PKE scans of the wall show nothing, no trace of any identifiable, charted, PKE energy. You may need to make new charts and meters.

After a rather dicey, slow, but uneventful, elevator ride down. You manage to get YOMI back on ground level. The slime filled tires are holding, sort of...you're pretty sure you can get her back to the Dumpling Factory in one piece.

You roll YOMI out of the building, and you see a little unusual sight. Two people sitting on beach folding chairs, watching the sun slowly come up.

You recognize them. It's the Middle-Eastern Man who hosted the game show, and that gorgeous red-haired woman who helped you with Kayako.

They look like they're tailgating. Or, just finishing up tailgating at least. The woman looks like she just finished another kind of activity and is enjoying a smoke on an electric cigarette.

"Do we want to talk to them?" Sato asks. "Get some answers?"

"Sato, Akira's still shot, and you're slightly bleeding from ghost trap shrapnel." Star says pointing at some red spots on Sato's jumpsuit. "You two need to see Nurse Reika, and YOMI needs to get home too." She looks at you.

The two individuals are just calmly watching the sun rise over the Reject Zone. They're not spending too much attention to you. However, you don't feel any sense of danger or hostility near them.

We could requisition a containment glass box like the kind they use on slimer, but that's meant for very low level ghosts like slimer and if Mitsuko could muster enough juice to break through a fucking trap we can't take that type of risk.

She'll be sleeping like a baby in the containment unit at least, like they all are.

You wave your hand dismissively at the pair. "They'll come to us if it's important." You say. "Actually hold on..."

"HEY!" You yell at them. "IS THE WORLD GONNA END TOMORROW?"

They look at each other. Then they shake their heads.

"Ok. Have a Good Morning! We're going to bed!" You wave goodbye.

The red-head laughs hysterically at that. The man looks, slightly annoyed but also vaguely amused. He gives you all a dismissive wave, and then goes back to his dawn watching/beer.

You slowly get YOMI back to the Dumpling Factory, where the tires finally give out and deflate into puddles of goo.

Yurei is also glad to be back home and safe too. Just being in the Dumpling Factory helps her a lot. So you'll be able to stabilize her PKE matrix...or something...later.

Sato and Akira are taken by Star to the clinic so they can receive treatment by Nurse Reika and her massive...bandages.

The Dumpling Factory HAS looked better however. The fight Sana, Sachiko, and the Vampire has trashed the place pretty well. Nothing that a day of cleaning can't fix, but you're not getting those proton burns and bloodstains off of the ceiling any time soon.

You, after getting into regular clothes, go next door.

"And there I am, trapped inside a refrigerator coffin, in a smelly hippy van, and not thirty feet away, Jimi Hendrix is doing something AMAZING, during a sound check of all things!" Kali sighs. "That's when I discovered that being a vampire is really Fu...ahem...really lousy. Hey! Look who's back! How'd it go?"

Sorry about the hole in the roof, though it's better than what would have happened if we hadn't made it."

She waves it off. "With your record, I'm just happy the building is still standing."

"Do you know any kitsune?" You ask.

"Me? Nah, ask your rabbit friend. Japanese yokai tend to avoid the Chinese Devil. Anyway, kitsune are sociopaths...clinically. Even the nice ones. That kami of theirs supposedly keeps them in line."

"Yeah, about that." You say. "Is it possible for a Kami to be...gone?"

"Gone?" Sachiko asks. "Someone killed a Kami?"

"You can't do that." Kali says. "And, like I said, I'm a foreigner, I try to stay out of it. Ask the rabbit. However, I've never heard of a kami or a 'God' or anything like being 'Gone.' They can 'die' but that rarely slows them down, but I've never heard of them being just 'gone.' What I DO what to know is where your secretary got so good at fighting games!" She points to Sana who's crashed on Sachiko's couch. "She beat us all! Even your linguist sister."

"I preferred light gun games." She says. "Brother...could you walk me to the train station. I should return home and get some sleep."

"Sure." You say.

"Hey, kiddo." Sachiko says with a yawn. "You think about our offer. Okay?"

She just bows to the two women. "Thank you for your hospitality."

You both leave and walk towards the train station.

"What offer?" You ask.

"Priestess Sachiko says that she could find me a position working here in the restaurant Miyagi's." She says. "And Miss Kali says that my talents with languages would be helpful in her relocation project. She also said that she'd be happy to escort me on a trip to Paris, and Venice, and many other places."

>>33484161
"It sounds nice." You say. Your mind is slightly preoccupied with thoughts of having to get 500,000 yen together by tomorrow to appease stern yakuza Oni.

"It..." Kaede bites her lip and wipes her eyes. "It..."

"Kaede?"

"It sounds WONDERFUL!" She breaks down sobbing and grabs you. "It's wonderful, and magic, and everything I wanted and more than a few things I dreamed, and Kali tells wonderful stories, and Sachiko is so nice and will teach me to dance, and Sana says I can get my degree through study here, your coworkers are funny and cool, and Miyagi's smells so nice and the two men there are the nicest and everything here is beautiful and wonderful and exciting and it's scary and and and I miss you so much and I want to be a part of all of this SO. BAD!" She sobs into your chest.

She swallows and pushes away, wiping her eyes. "But I can't. I...I can't. Mom will be coming back from Nagano soon, and Father needs me there, and...and..." She sniffs. "They need me, and if I leave...it'll hurt them more."

She's teetering on the edge. You can see it. She'll be able to get on that train and get back into her life, and go back to her regular life. She'll get back into school, back into proper Japan culture, and she won't have any more regrets than the next person. She has the drive, and she'd do it just on inertia. As much as you upset her life, she can still claw her way back...and she'd be happy.

But all it would take would be a little push, maybe less than a word...and she'd not get on the train. She'd stay here in the Reject Zone. Learn languages, see amazing things, be here in the weird, the magic, the danger, you...and you'd have part of your family back. She'd be happy too. It'd be dangerous, but lets not kid ourselves, just sending her away will not lessen the danger. Especially if Oiwa levels the city. The other girls love her, and you know that someone with her drive and ability could succeed here.

But...it would destroy your family. Mother, Father, probably a good deal more people as well that are related to you.

One person leaving is just an unfortunate disaster. Something that could possibly be recovered from.

If both the Son AND the Daughter left?

Ruin.

Also, if something goes wrong for the two of you here? You'd be doomed. There would be no one to turn to. There is no safety net, no second chance, no nothing. This would be your life, good or ill, and if it's ill...maybe you could handle it...but if something goes wrong for Kaede? She'd fall, and that would be that.

Could you do that to your parents?

Could you ask so much of your Sister?

But, do you want your sister to turn her back on being apart of...well...something fantastic? Just for the sake of 'expectation?' And why shouldn't she be able to make her own destiny?

Or are you only asking her to stay because you're lonely.

Whatever this is, you know one thing for certain.

Con's:
Will have the regret of always wondering what might have been.

Pro's:

Con's:
Will destroy our family, drive Father to an early death and Mother will die embittered and alone; extended relatives also emotionally distraught.
Complete ostracization from the rest of national society.
No safety net if something goes wrong.
No guarantee that things will work out.
>>
>>33484555
She's already decided to go home; she wants to stay but believes that going home is for the greater good of the family.
We can sway her to stay just by mentioning it.

By our choice, her choice will be affected.
>>
>>33484555
True, and yet, though she would be happy with the life she has at home, we also know she would be even more happier achieving the greatness that we've already denied her once with our actions.

Should we deny it to her again? Or is that wishful thinking. . .

As for Mom and Dad, they are reaching out to us but likely, we'll never reciprocate. If Kaede were to come with us, in time, maybe they would follow. Or not.

One thing is for sure, we're not going to get on good terms with them by coming to them anytmie soon.
>>
>>33484586
That's a good point, we killed her dreams by ostracizing our family the first time and having her pick up the pieces of our family, and we'd be killing it again if we let her go.
>>
>>33484586
>Should we deny it to her again? Or is that wishful thinking. . .
We'd only be giving her a chance at something better, with a great chance at failure and no chance at recovery.

She goes home, she's guaranteed to be happy. Not as happy as she could be, but content.

She stays here, and she puts everything on the line, and our family is guaranteed to be ruined.
Dad will likely lose his job; for someone of his generation, that's tantamount to his failure as a human being. His only recourse would be suicide.

Maybe if we talked to them, get them to consider "sending Kaede to a different school in the next city over", then it might work so long as no one knew she was in the Reject Zone.

>>33484672
We'd be killing her dream, but the alternative is to kill the rest of our family.
We did both the first time, now we're being made to choose one or the other this time.
>>
>>33484558
I think that it comes down to what we think should be valued more. Individual achievement and satisfaction is a VERY Western idea, but putting aside one's needs for the good of the family and society as a whole is a predominantly Eastern idea, it shows up elsewhere but it's most prominent here.

It's a very good chance though, you must admit, with the entire international Ghosbuster community to help with her education and financing, Sachiko and Kali.

Even in the worst case if she is ostracized in japan, there is a world outside of Japan where none of that matters and she would be able to pursue whatever she wished.

The family is a good point though, that'd be tricky. But you make a good point about having Kaede sent to a different school.

The extended family is also an issue, but if they are willing to leave us for something like this, how much of a "family" does that make them?
>>
>>33484469
The thing about this life is that one should not just stay with what they have just to be content.
She is at least in high school, right? Soon, she will have to leave her parents in some way to pursue a dream. And what good is a dream if without any risk? Taking risks and leaps of faith can lead into greatness. And this doesn't seem like she's abandoning her parents to me. She is being given a chance to see the world, learn things she never knew, or could have known.
What is life without a risky adventure?
>"Kaede...wait..."
>>
>>33484796
>There might, MIGHT be a way to have our cake and eat it too, but it'll be hell to pull off.
We are Ghostbusters after all, and by god hell is (almost literally) our territory.
>>
>>33484796
The only way to have Kaede pursue her dream while our family not imploding entirely involves lots of lies, lots of money, and lots of luck.

We need to do that job for the rich youkai, because we're going to need the money, especially after the payoff we need to make to the Oni tomorrow.
Then we need to talk with our Dad, and convince him to "send Kaede to a boarding school", and that "she received several scholarships to make it possible".
That's where the money comes in; we need to make up the difference that Kaede not bringing in an income will make.
That's pretty much the bare outline of the plan.

>>33484818
>but if they are willing to leave us for something like this, how much of a "family" does that make them?
A family that doesn't want to be associated with someone who is the cultural equivalent of a terrorist.
It's not just social standing we're talking about here, there are real and very painful consequences for what this would do to anyone related to us. Look at what happened to our Dad, and that's going to happen to anyone related to us.
>>
>>33484818
It makes them Japanese, where the ultimate sin is bringing shame upon the family.
>>
Why don't we just come straight out and ask her:
"Where will you be happiest?"
>>
>>33484863
Oh for fuck's sake.
This is exactly the kind of Western-blinded attitude that >>33484796
was talking about.
If something goes wrong, then there is no recovery for Kaede. You gloss over the financial dangers, but if one doesn't have money, then no, you can't make a new start.
And Daisuke already mentioned that this WILL impact our parents, that it WILL be seen as abandoning them, and so your interpretation is the self-centered egocentric view of a gaijin.
>>
Taking risks that could lead to disaster and pulling them off is a Ghostbuster specialty! If we can hold what amounts to GODS in a prison, them damn it, we can pull off a dream while still holding together a family!
>>
I feel that the last few posts here are exactly what is going on in Daisukes head. Torn between two persona's, each trying to do what's right. And no matter how heated it gets, it's pretty awesome.
>>
>>33484950
See, the thing is her personal happiness isn't her highest priority. Familial duty is very important.

Even though, if you think about it, the three aspects of Oiwa are all girls who have been let down BIG TIME by people they were supposed to be loyal to.
>>
>>33484965

We already know that, and she already knows that.
The question isn't "Where will she be happiest?", it's "Is a chance at her dream (not guaranteed) worth destroying the lives of our parents and of the rest of our relatives (guaranteed)?"
That's the question here.
Is one person's chance at greatness worth the lives of her family.
>>
>>33484965
>>33484940
>>33485033
Tradition is important, but if you think about it, it's also the thing we're going to need to overcome.

We are supposed to break the tradition that brings shame to Oiwa daily and give her peace. If we can't overcome this, how would we be able to accomplish bringing back Oiwa's face when that is even more embedded in Japanese tradition?
>>
>>33485040
>sorry if it seems like that
There is no "seems" about it, that's what it is.
>>
If we let her on the train, we may never see her again in the story. But if we convince her to take a chance, it could lead to some very interesting character development for Daisuke and the rest.
>>
>>33485033
Like here's the thing, this current crisis we're facing now, with the Youkai?

All that wanting people to stay scared of the dark?

Pretty sure it's bigger then them, and reflects on a generational gap in Japan itself, general fear of shifting cultural tides.
>>
>>33485075
The problem is that even if she does go back to our family, her life WILL get better.

Like she won't be working those waitress jobs forever, and will get to go back to school somewhere.

It's not like we're leaving her to toil in mediocrity, she could still conceivably attain success.
>>
>>33485064
>Is one person's chance at greatness worth the lives of her family.
Ask yourself, is it?

Everyone lives, everyone dies. We ourselves have been the unfortunate hand at the end of others, but only out of what is right. One should put their destiny in their own hands, not at the hands of others. Even if they are the hands of one related by blood, even one they love.

All life ends, but it's how you lived that life is what matters. Did you live your life? Or did you live for somebody else. . .
>>
This looks like it all really boils down into a tradition vs. dreams conflict. There are so many reasons to take one or the other. Set in logic, facts, and common sense.
From what I see, however, has no bearing on those whatsoever. What I see is emotion, and a chance to act. I personally feel that it might end up being the best if we take that chance.
And I am hoping that if such a circumstance played out in real life, the brother would stop the sister.
Please. Let her stay
>>
>>33485176
We could help out covertly even if she goes back home, couldn't we? I know that accepting charity is like scrabbling in the dirt to a great many people, but we could dress it up with words like 'scholarship' and 'opportunity' and 'career training'. Even if we don't bring her into our world, we can still help her go to Paris. We have friends with respectable friends.
>>
>>33485075
>shame to Oiwa
Shame isn't what's associated with Oiwa; it's retribution and vengeance.
Rightfully so, in all versions of the tale.
The only difference is that the earlier versions and movies had Oiwa's ghost do some redeeming acts like reuniting her sister with her sister's fiancee, while later interpretations focused solely on her hatred for Iemon.
>>
>>33485176
But the same thing could be stated if she stays with us.

It is not like what we are asking would get her killed. If she is captured to hold as ransom against us, it is just as likely to happen here as it is there.

If she goes back, there's still the chance that her live gets worse to. There is no guarantee either way.
I am just rooting for her staying.
>>
>>33484469
You already know what needs to be done, so I won't stand in your way. Just know that the offer will never leave the table, if you ever change your mind. In the mean time, we Ghostbusters will work to build up our reputations to far exceed the expectations of those who look down upon us. Heck, by the time you graduate, you might be able to have all of that without worry of being ostracized.

Big brother still has his baseball bat. The monsters he's protecting you from are just going to be much farther away.

> "Goodbye, sister."
>>
>>33485222
Tradition has always been the enemy, at every turn and every corner. We've been tasked by Oiwa to help break tradition.

Do we let tradition win our sister as well? When we would fight hell and every ghost on the planet for her, we give her up for this?

>>33485240
I didn't say was associated with shame, but that tradition doesn't bring her any good light and we're supposed to break that.
>>
I agree with this >>33485094 so

>>33484469
> "Kaede...wait..."
>>
>>33485222
Part of the problem is that when we get down to it, Daisuke's dedication to justice and general stubbornness can make him kind of cold.

Like since he signed up with the Ghostbusters, and his family has made it clear that they no longer wish to be associated with him, I don't think Daisuke has given them a second thought.

The same philosophy that allowed him to focus on what was right, no matter how many lives it ruined, enables him to think that if his family is done with him, then he's done with them, and that's that.

Can our sister do the same? What can we do to assuage the guilt that we didn't really bother with?
>>
>>33485211
>Did you live your life? Or did you live for somebody else. . .
And herein lies the Western egotism and narcissistic self-importance that you so obviously cherish.
That you can't see just how self-centered your viewpoint is, really shows that you can't understand another culture.
>>
>>33485240
But the Youkai who seem to be capitalizing on the Oiwa thing, they're all about tradition.

Like the way they've lived their lives seems to be in danger and they think that if they unleash a spooky ghost then it'll all go back to the good old days.

But you can't turn back time.
>>
>>33485270
>There is no guarantee either way.
No, it IS guaranteed that her life will get better away from us.
It's her life with us that's questionable.
>>
>>33485277
Yeah I guess I can agree with this.

It seems wrong either way.

Either we're asking her to kill our family, who even if we no longer care about them, she certainly does, or not live up to her full potential.
>>
>>33485316
And in you I hear the same echo of those ghosts and spirits who seek to plunge the world into darkness all for the sake of culture and tradition that we are desperately fighting to keep back. That you do not see this yourself only displays the very same flaw that is as we speak killing lives and causing death.
>>
>>33485306
It is actually a bit hard to say. Remember, the only mention of his family before his sister came into the picture was in the very first episode of this quest. We don't really know much about them or how they think outside of what we are told in that first episode.
As for his sister, who knows? We may have to deal with it as it comes. One cannot completely predict the outcome of every action
>>
>>33485405
While you have a point, I feel like if we burn all the old world to the ground, we'll just reach a different kind of oppression and sterility.
>>
I say let her stay. I really don't want her to disappear from the story. Otherwise, her whole appearance could be just like "hey, we have a sister, and we are fighting the third aspect because of her." and nothing else of impact. I really want her to stay and see what we can do to build up this zone.
>>
>>33485432
Well yeah, I'm just saying that the MC is an "out of sight, out of mind" kind of guy.

Even though we're probably gonna have to deal with our parents at some point.
>>
> "Kaede...wait..."
I don't feel that Ghostmaster would try to give us a bad end if we tried our damndest to work hard and think even harder.
>>
>>33485493
Look, if she said she was gonna do this, then I wouldn't talk her out of this, but if she decided to stay, then she clearly cares more about our family than we ever did.

I don't want to have to deal with her own guilt, misplaced or not.
>>
>>33485477
The ghosts would burn the world to achieve the opposite. Two objects cannot exist in the same place at the same time. Do we choose the Old World or the New World?
>>
>>33485405
No, you dense motherfucker, the ghosts and youkai are using the idea of traditions and precedent to go back to being on top. Much of Japanese traditional folktales and culture show humans beating down youkai and ghosts when they get too uppity.
They're only appealing to tradition because it's easier to get human spiritualists onboard with that party line than the true Youkai Supremacy agenda they have.

This is a choice between hurting others for personal gain versus accepting a given level of happiness in order to bring happiness to others.
The way that you are trying to frame this choice is steeped in Western thinking, and I'm saying that it needs to remain in a Japanese context because the character is Japanese.
>>
>>33485538
He is a Japanese character who has already rejected much of Japanese tradition and society anyway, and rightly so.
>>
>>33485527
Do NOT say that. That implies that we cared very little, and from the actions of Diasuke, I'd say he cares a lot, but is unable to act on any of those because of the culture he's in. Hell, he was considering SUICIDE at the beginning of this quest to spare his family the shame! But he found something to do and made peace inside himself.
>>
>>33485538
>>33485546
And given the choice to hurt others to do what is right, and not hurt others to do what is wrong, what have we done in the past?
>>
>>33484469
>"Goodbye, sister."
>>33485493
That's some pretty selfish reasoning you got there.

>>33485504
And that's just naive. Because we got nothing in terms of ideas or plans and you're assuming that she'll be able to leave the story so easily.

And when you get down to it, if she needs to be persuaded to risk it all and go on an adventure, she has no business doing it at all. She chose to stay by the fire, and we should respect that.
>>
While I, as a player, don't know which choice I would make, I think that the character we are playing would want his sister to take the risk for happiness. Mostly based on the fact that he stood up for what was right and was thrown out of school and turned on by both his parents and most of society, and not once has he regretted the choice he made.

That's just my interpretation of the character, though.
>>
>>33485591
This is a story! I'm thinking about how this can be improved and given character development!
It's not selfish, it's detatchaed.
>"Kaede...wait..."
>>
>>33485603
I agree. Whether or not it ends up being the right or wrong answer in the end, it is closer to how he'd think and act.
>>
>>33485577
This isn't right or wrong, justice or injustice. This is about personal gain, acquiring the chance at personal success at the expense of others.

Do I think that we should try to find a way so that she can stay in the Zone without making our family collapse?
Of course.

But don't try to make this seem better than it actually is, because it IS about personal gain at the expense of others versus achieving happiness by making the lives of others better.
>>
>>33485603
From what I've seen, I think Diasuke would have her stay too.
>>
>>33485603
You're glossing over the fact that Daisuke felt that the deaths of others was an acceptable price to pay for justice to be done.
>>
>>33485577
>>33485603
But are we doing what's wrong? Like she WILL get to go back to school, and she will be able to get a respectable job and get a happy life. From what I've gathered, our family isn't abusing her or anything like that.

She will still be happy, what she's doing now, is choosing not to open the Mystery Box.

And I think she might be wiser for it.
>>
>>33485661
And it was
>>
>>33485664
If we didn't choose to open the Mystery box with Sato, we'd be pizza under a subway car.
>>
>>33485621
And I feel like she's yet another plot thread that we can't really afford to address.

We've STILL been blowing off those rabbit spirits that are paying us so much money.
>>
>>33485661
I'm not glossing over that fact. If anything it further convinces me that asking her to stay because he thinks it would make her happier is something Daisuke the character would do.

>>33485664
Sure, she'll probably be happy if she goes back. But if she stays, she might be happier. And feel more fulfilled in her life.
>>
>>33485698
Which proves that this is not the same situation that we were in. She still has options, we didn't.
>>
>>33485700
You know, if we did that job so well as to aquire more funds we'd already have at least one of the problems solved.
>>
>>33485698
But she's not us.

And she still has a future that she can earn.

Look, the Reject Zone is something you're either left no choice but to go, or something you embrace wholeheartedly. There's no place for dawdlers here, if she needs to have us persuade her to stay, then she'll never survive in a place like this.
>>
>>33485669
Now, ask yourself, would Daisuke kill another person for personal gain? Would he ruin the lives of others, just so he could personally have a better life?
No sharing the spoils with the rest of the team, no using it to improve the Zone; just himself.

Because that is the choice we are making here.

I'm for having Kaede stay, and for trying to make our parents lie so that they won't be made to suffer more, but I'm not going to lie to myself that this is somehow more noble, or the Right Thing To Do.
It's pure logic and cold reasoning, and accepting that our parents don't have much long left to live because of our actions.
>>
The only real in character reason I can think of for Daisuke not to try is concern for her safety. Especially with her getting threatened at the start of that last debacle.

What's more important to Daisuke? Her happiness or her safety?
>>
>>33485715
But if she stays, our family will be destroyed. And I don't think she's strong enough to deal with that.
>>
>>33485661
That's more of a "a million is a statistic" coping mechanism. It is unlikely that he knew how many would kill themselves. I think he may regret them dieing, but not regret acting out justice.
>>
>>33485715
>because he thinks it would make her happier is something Daisuke the character would do
Then understand that this means that Daisuke will hurt others for personal gain, that he will leave people behind if it's in his best interests.
This isn't about Justice, this is about personal gain, and that's how Daisuke already sees it (from Ghostmaster's posts), how Kaede would see it, and how everyone else would see it.
>>
>>33485763
But she'll still be happy.

Just not AS happy.

Maybe. Could wind up a lot happier than she'd end up.
>>
>>33485764
You don't think she is, but what does Daisuke think? Does he think she's strong enough to grasp her own future and find her own path, or does he think she needs to stay on the laid out road ahead of her?

We need to think about this from Daisuke's perspective.
>>
>>33485776
I agree that it's not about justice. But I don't see how this means that Daisuke will purposefully hurt people for personal gain or leave people behind. I'm pretty sure if Daisuke was the kind of guy to leave people behind we'd be down a GhostBuster or two by this point.

If the only way she'll even try is for us to push her, then I'd say he knows damn well what the answer to that is.

If you recall, we suicidally charged a bunch of super-fast, slit-faced ghost things because we knew our sister could be talked or tricked into having her face mutilated by them.

Not everyone is a fighter.
>>
>>33485763
>The only real in character reason I can think of for Daisuke not to try is concern for her safety
Uh, what?
Daisuke, in the story posts, specifically called out safety as being irrelevant because Oiwa would level the entire city, as well as the nation.

He gave an entire laundry list of, in-character, why this would be a bad idea.

The ONLY in-character reason to have her stay, besides a selfish desire to have her here because we're lonely, is that this is Kaede's chance to live her dream and be part of something fantastic.

Because this is a choice about whether Kaede gets a CHANCE at great happiness at the expense of everyone in our family (immediate and extended), or if she accepts average happiness while also giving average happiness to everyone else in our family (immediate and extended).
Choosing the former means that we'll hurt others for a chance at great personal reward, rather than accept average happiness for everyone.

Pretty much, no. She'd only have a twinge of regret that's of the national average.
Going home is the safe option that makes sure that everyone is content.

Staying in the Zone is a chance (admittedly better than average) to be very happy, but with almost assured despair and bitterness for our parents and the other members of our family, and only a very slim chance to avoid those repercussions.

>>33486088
It's bullshit, but it's bullshit to die for and I hope GM was laughing his ass off the whole time. Meh, we'll likely see her again anyway.

Kudos to Ghostmastter for getting us involved and really immersed.
>>
That settled we can talk about our next immediate actions I suppose. Yes we should stop holding off the Youkai, and after tomorrows hit to our budget, we're going to need it.

God I really wish that Oni allowed for multiple payments and didn't ask for it all in a lump sum.
>>
>>33486112
Just for that, I hope she won't come back into the story.
>>
>>33486137
Eh, hopefully the gold will cover most of it.

We never got around to really doing anything with it, after we figured out how to track the Fury.
>>
>>33486154
Have we tracked her PKE signature though? Might want to get around to that soon.
>>
>>33486088
That's the problem with voting on 4chan. No such thing as a legitimate vote.

and for those complaining about the samefagg, it is just as easy to change your email thing for each post as it is to duplicate it to make it seem like others are samefagging.
>>
>>33486149
I'm a bit torn. She's alright, but I can't really see much potential to her. Like it seemed to be more of a "Hey, here's another reminder of Daisuke's backstory, now feel bad!"
>>
>>33486154
>>33486159
Oh, and we're also going to need to work on an Ethereal Solidifier ray since she's able to separate herself from her PKE form so well. It's meant for "wispy" ghosts, such as a primal spirit like her.

>>33486177
>>33486060
Another anon beat you to the gun.
>>
>>33486088
If you're going to say that you samefagged, then shouldn't you, you know, point out which ones you did?
>>
>>33486177
Quote only makes things a bit harder to samefag, but there are ways.

Ways that have killed quests.
>>
>>33486088
I follow the quest, but he only gets me during work hours or sleep time. I voted to go.
>>
>>33486191
She had potential, a LOT of potential, if she stayed...
>>
>>33486159
>>33486211
Look, she is the lowest of priorities.

Right now, making women angry enough that they don't kill themselves is providing a very important service that is also likely to prevent a lot of ghosts.

Especially in this country.
>>
>>33486211
That destabilizer thing might be more important in the short term if we're going to deal with hostile Youkai that we don't necessarily want to kill.
>>
>>33486224
Did she?

She was nice, smart too, but I didn't really see much strength in her.

Or at least not the right kind of strength to make it out here.
>>
>>33486235
Just because we might agree with a killer ghost, doesn't mean let them be killers.

It's a black stain on our career as Ghostbusters to have let one so dangeruos away. Sure not now, but eventually we will have to deal with her.
>>
>>33486191
The main reason I wanted her to stay was so she would not amount to what you just said there.
>>
>>33486251
You couldn't have seen it, since it wouldn't have been given the chance to show.
>>
>>33486276
She had a chance.

She could have asked us. Or even shown that she wanted us to persuade her.

She made her choice to go back on it. And that, to me, proves that she wouldn't have made it anyway.
>>
>>33486088
You open and close your mouth. You're in the same boat as her. You have a thousand reasons to want her to stay, but a thousand more reasons for her to go.

Your sister can read your face as well as you can.

Then she hugs you, for real this time. Tightly.

"Give me a week." She says, wiping her eyes. "If...if I can't get things better in a week...I'll come back."

You nod. If anyone can get things done in a week, it's certainly your sister. She's got more drive than you do, that's for sure. Three jobs at once and learning languages on her own for the sake of getting bigger tips is just the tip of the iceberg.

"This is not goodbye." You say.

"No." She says as the train arrives. She hugs you again, as the scant few people get off the train. She lets go and gets on. "This is NOT goodbye."

The doors close, and the train rumbles away.

You slowly walk off the platform, sighing.

"You know, as my mashmashshu," A middle eastern man says as he leans against a light pole by the train station entrance. "I should feel more put off that you blew me off." He grins. "But that was worth watching, and you never chose to serve me. I picked you all...AFTER you dealt with that drama queen Gozer."

"Enkidu?" You ask.

He bows. "Also known as Enki, Ennki, and a bunch of other names, but first I was Ea. Your patron, your servant." He smirks at you. "And I'm mostly that, because otherwise some other deity would have grabbed you and ruined everything."

"Are you here for anything?" You ask, wiping your own scratchy eyes.

"Just to give my congratulations." He said. "Oh, and to thank you for calming down Fury. Ish and her go WAY back. She won't admit it, but you hit her MUCH harder than she'll let on. Ego is all she has really."

"We're still planning on tracking her down and busting her." You say.

"Could I ask you to hold off on that? Not to not do it, heavens knows that the woman could use some more humility beaten into her, but I have a need for her."

The pressure to conform in any family can be high, but in Japan it can be extreme. If I had been here, I'd have voted for her to stay, and offered to any of our family that needed it money from our paycheck and a place to stay.
>>
>>33486295
She had the strength to turn back what she clearly saw would've made her happier than ever and fulfill herself, all for the sake of her family, and that is my proof.
>>
>>33486056
Ghostmaster, do you have a twitter I can watch, so I know when you'll be running this?
>>
>>33486295
>Or even shown that she wanted us to persuade her.
>>33484368
>She's teetering on the edge. You can see it.
>But all it would take would be a little push, maybe less than a word...and she'd not get on the train.
Seems like she wanted us to persuade her, what with crying to us how much she wants to stay.

Every Thursday since I latched on.
>>
>>33486311
Sure, we can do that.
>>
>>33486372
We have to hold it off anyway, bigger fish to fry and bigger troubles ahead.

But remember, the key word is "hold it off"
>>
>>33486311

Ghostmaster, just let me say thanks for heading off that chaos and doing is very well. It's a compromise that I think both sides will be ok with.
>>
>>33486430
Indeed. No matter which path we chose, it's ultimately up to GM to decide the result.
>>
>>33486438
Well if you think about, what the vote really amounted to WAS "be paralyzed by indecision"
>>
>>33486438

I've seen a damn lot of quests keel over because multiple people start arguing over a keenly felt decision and the GM making a ruling one way or another GENERALLY ends poorly.

Still, Ghostmaster does a bloody good job with this quest and I trust him to run it.

>>33486311
"What need?" You ask.

"Ah, ah, ah." The man waves a finger. "Let me have some secrets. I promise that my plans for Fury involve no harm, directly or indirect, to any man, woman, or child, on this planet. I mean this statement in every sense of the terms." He sighs. "Also, if Fury and Ish are doing their 'Girl Time' in places like Amsterdam or Vegas, I don't have to worry about them getting into actual mischief." He shakes his head.

"Imagine 4000 years with the only regular company being your psycho-tsundere ex-wife." He shudders. "Better yet, don't." He sighs. "Anyway, I promise I'll keep a tight reign on Fury. If she acts up, I'll let whomever is closest know, and you'll smack a little more sense into her."

"Anything else?"

"No...although the sooner you can figure out exactly what this cabal of miscreants did, and reverse it, BEFORE Oiwa shows up to wreck shit...it would be helpful. Also it would put the Kami in my debt, which is something that I cannot put a price one." He grins.

"Well, if you can give me any advice...since you are supposedly our patron." You say.

"Sorry." The man shrugs. "First off, I make it a policy to meddle with you guys as little as possible. It keeps the other side from meddling on their end...unless I can have some fun with you, the game show bit was priceless. Or if Ish wants to goad you into a fight." He shrugs. "You know you could have just trapped Kayako's innocent part, right? That whole bit against your own grudges was just Ish looking for trouble. NEVER trust that woman."

"Okay, okay. I get it." You yawn. You are tired, out of adrenaline, and emotionally drained. You're standing on your own two feet out of habit more than anything else. "So, you want me to find out how Oinari can be 'gone,' right?"

(cont)
>>
>>33486487

The man shakes his head. "It's not just her. It's all of them."

"What?"

"They're all absent, Oinari, Amaterasu, Hachiman, even Izanagi and Izanami." The Old God says. "They aren't dead, and it isn't as if the prayers aren't being heard. They're just not here.

"As of now, Japan is a nation, that has no Gods."

Eh, it was cathartic. And gives us insight into our teammates.

...Though what the fuck was with Sana.
>>
>>33486505
That seems arguably worse than Oiwa.
>>
>>33486513
>...Though what the fuck was with Sana.

That was Fury.
>>
>>33486525
To elaborate, she had been hitching a ride within Sana (and all of the other girls that had been suckered in by that fake audition) and when Oiwa called out Sana's grudges, Fury was summoned as well.

Well, no patron Gods at least. I wonder if Bhuddist gods have taken interest? They would be the only contender to them in these parts, even then their greatly outnumbered and is probably more interested in his major holdings like India.

Judeo-Christian God's followers don't even have a percentage point of the population.
>>
>>33486591
Maybe they're taking vacation. They know who's on the job.
>>
Don't forget to tell Spengler and New York the ghosts here have reached the stage where they have actually broken through a trap, because that's an extremely bad omen. The Twinkie here might already be the size of Russia for all we know.
>>
And getting to work on that Atomic Destabilizer.
