You were a split second from death when the eastern beauty appeared as if sent by the Lord Above to pull you from the edge. Now she stands, one foot gently resting on the now-motionless wing and the other on the still-open eyeball of the recently deceased Eyebat King. "My, my. What a brute. Ah, is your friend alright?" Her serene gaze flickers over you to the unconscious girl beside you.

Charme is breathing, if a little shallow. You quickly check the lady thief from head to toe, but find only minor scrapes and bruises, likely from the fighting she's been doing until now. "Sh-she's okay, I think," you tell the stranger. "Thank you! For saving us, I mean."

The lady brings a hand up to her lips, a refined gesture to conceal her gentle giggle. "Please don't mention it." She tugs the spear from the corpse, clearing the blood from it with a swirling flick, carefully directing the muck away from herself and her fine dress. "Oh, and if it wouldn't be too much of a hassle for you, would you mind directing me to the market? I was following the main road, though I seem to have taken a wrong turn."

RACKETEER QUEST! FUCK YEAH!

Thank you, Kaleun, for running this quest despite the difficulties.
>>
>>33448853
Well it WAS that way until ogly here blew up the exit. Now we don't know, somewhere else in the dungeon I guess!
>>
>>33448853
CLEARLY we must guide the young waif-uh, woman there ourselves. What could go wrong?
>>
>>33448853
>[Ara ara~ intensifies]
Introduce yourself, give her directions (and/or offer to walk her there).
Charme would deserve whipping for being so useless, but I doubt she'd take it as a punishment.
>>
>>33448853
>"Oh, sure, I'll guide you. Saddly, the king blew up the portal to go out of the dungeon, so I don't know the exit either. But don't worry, I'm sure Charme knows where the other portals are."
>>
>>33448962
>being so useless

She pretty much solo'd the dungeon and gave us what we were looking for. We do need to find her something to help her glass jaw, though.

>>33448984
I forgot:
>Search the boss's corpse for valuables while waiting for Charme to regain conciousness
>Wait 15 min, then try to wake Charme. We're on a shedule

"To the market? Well uh, first you need to get out of the dungeons. The exit was here, but that thing..." you look towards the unmoving corpse.

"Dungeons?" The beauty tilts her head, her long hair falling over her shoulder. "My, is that where we are?"

You blink. "Y-yeah. These are the living dungeons outside the city. You didn't know that?" She chooses not to answer, instead hopping down from the King, touching down gracefully. "Anyway, uhm. If you'd like, I could show you the way."

A smooth smile widens her mouth without creasing her cheeks. "That is very kind of you. I would be much obliged." Behind her, the Eyebat King's corpse begins to glow a bright white, flesh melting and twisting away from the body and sinking into the ground.

The stranger though seems too distracted by the lady thief in your arms. "Ah, it seems your companion has awoken." Indeed, you look down to find Charme stirring and opening her eyes.

"I got hit, huh?" She asks bluntly. You nod wordlessly, and she lifts up her left hand. On her middle finger a silver ring with a purple inset gem. She wiggles it a little to catch the light, and you pick out a long, thin crack running deep through the middle of the gem. "Aw man, that sucks."

She sits herself up, greeting the stranger. "Hi there, I'm Charme. Professional berk for little Recette here."
The stranger's eyes widen a little as she absorbs the two names.

AAH!
You jump upright, accidentally kicking Charme in the back as you stand. "H-hi! I'm Recette, and this is Tear!" Tear nods a greeting. "Together we own Recettear, the item store!"

The lady bows to you. "My name is Nagi. It is a pleasure to meet you all."

With the introductions out of the way, your attention is once more pulled to the corpse behind her. The light from the degrading body has sunken into the earth, leaving a magic circle marking the exit home.

>[1/2]
>>
>>33449460
Charme recovered remarkably well, really.
>>
>>33449549
She was dead.
>>
>>33449549
That ring might have had something to do with it. It's not every day that someone is blasted with a huge laser and gets off with light scrapes and bumps.
>>
>>33449683
no, but she would have been if we had let her in the water
>>
>>33449705
Then she would've been dead twice.
>>
>>33449460
"Oh, I guess it's that way then," you comment to the others. "Let's hurry up and get out of here before anything else goes wrong!"

Nagi smiles, dipping her head in agreement, then walks into the light. The three of you follow right after, and find yourselves at... somewhere that certainly isn't the back alley behind the Adventurer's Guild. In fact, judging by the way the decor includes a counter, a gruff-looking man and some guild banners, you're pretty sure this is inside the Adventurer's Guild!

Nagi strides ahead towards the main doors, but the gruff man jerks out of his chair to bar your passage when you try to follow.

"Who the hell are you? How did you get in here?"

Charme instinctively reaches for one of her blades but you catch her before she dose something she'd regret. Nagi, picking up on the commotion behind her and gently intervenes. "They are with me. These kind folk have been showing me the way," she tells the man sweetly.

"Miss Nagi!?" The man shows genuine confusion at her intervention. "I didn't know you were in the Dungeons today..."

"Dungeons?" Her eyes widen in surprise and amusement. "Of course not. I was just on my way to the marketplace." And with that she bids him farewell and takes her leave, you, Tear and Charme hurrying after her while the man gawks in confusion at her.

Outside, the lamps are all lit already and the streets are empty, with many of the city's residents having already headed home for the night. There's no way the market would still be open at this hour, but Nagi still seems intent on finding her way there.
Once clear of the Guild, you...

>Thank her and take your leave?
>Lead her to the marketplace?
>Offer to lead her to the marketplace in the morning?

AND

>Head back and open the store?
>Head back and get an early night?
>Go into town, maybe try the pub?
>Wander the streets?
>Other?
>>

"Thanks for the help there, Nagi!" You jog a few paces to catch up to her.

"You are most welcome. My, it certainly has gotten late. Please, don't mind me. I know my way from here." She takes her leave.

Tear flutters beside you, ready to murmur something in your ear.

"Recette?"

"I know."

"She's going-"

"I know."

You start to walk quickly after the retreating figure. "That way is the docks.

"I know! Hey, Nagi! Hey uhm... I did sort of say I'd walk you to the market, so how about letting me do that anyway?"

She smiles that heart-felt smile again. "My, such a kind and honest soul. Very well, I shall walk with you a while, Recette."

With her arm linked in yours, it's a short trip to escort the foreign wonder to the marketplace. As you expected, it's closed. Not a single open stall in sight.

"Oh dear," Nagi breathes. "It seems we must have taken too leisurely a pace."

"I... really don't think that was the issue here," Tear comments behind you. Nagi ignores her.

"Very well, I shall return tomorrow in the hopes of arriving earlier. Thank you for the assistance today, Recette."

You blush at the sincerity in the young woman's voice. "Please, we should be thanking you!"

She tilts her head, visibly lost on your train of thought. "How so?"

"You saved our lives!"

"Ah, is that so? I suppose we are equals, then."

You frown, uncomprehending. This girl actually considers saving your life to be equal to walking her along a well-lit city street?

>>
>>33450895
It's because she's so best, Recette. When you grow older, you'll understand.
>>
>>33450895
"I bid you good night, friends. Perhaps we shall cross paths again."

You catch her before she wanders off on her own. "Wait! Wait, if you'd like you could stay with us for the night? We only live up the hill."

"The hill?"

"Y-yeah. The hill. You know, that hill?" You point at the hill on your left, dominating the skyline to the south.

Nagi gazes at it, as if seeing it for the first time in her life. "My, I was not aware Pensee boasted a hill."

"You're not from around here?" Charme asks in a casual tone. "Me either. Don't worry, you get used to it soon enough."

Nagi smiles knowingly, "is that so? I shall take your word for it, Miss Charme."

You continue, "anyway. We're just a little way up there. If you want?"

The exotic spearwoman shifts her head in a gentle decline. "Perhaps another time. For tonight, I would like to return home."

You take the hit and continue swinging, "okay well at least let me give you some directions to our store, so you can stop by and see us some time!"

She smiles, "by all means."

You excitedly tell her the way to the store. It's really quite a simple route!

She relays the directions back to you. You tell her that would take her to the church.
You correct her on the turn that got her wrong.
She hums, nodding, and relays the corrected directions back again. You tell her she'd be walking into the river. She frowns a little at that. You correct her again.

Fifteen minutes later, she correctly relates to you the necessary turns to get to your store. Turn left at the sloped road and walk straight, the store's on the right...

"Do you... think you'll be able to make it there okay?" You ask her nervously.

"Of course!" she answers eagerly, "my sense of direction is excellent."
No-one bothers to comment.

[2/?]
>>
>>33451151
Recette, you fool! You gave her the directions from the market, a place she can't find in the first place!
>>
>>33451151
Just ask Tear to go with her

That will also make us able to talk with Charme about this blackmail business
>>
>>33451151
With Nagi departed, you start making your way back to the store. On the way back, you take a small side-trip to stop by Jacob the blacksmith. Knocking on his door, however, receives no answer. You knock a second time, again for no answer."Perhaps he is out looking for materials?" Tear suggests, unsure.

"At this time of night?" Charme raises an eyebrow. "No way, he's in there."

You resolve yourself and knock harder, louder, more furiously. And finally, an agitated voice answers. "Whaaat? Do you know what time it is?" The sound of several bolts slamming open and a crossbar being removed, the door swings open, almost into your face. Jacob glares down at you.

"I got you the crystals," you answer simply. You hand him the bag of void crystals. He opens the bag and carefully inspects your haul.

"Right, these will do nicely... though you're one short. Ah, whatever. We can make do." He takes the bag, nods his thanks, then slams the door shut. The bar slots back in place and the bolts are driven home.

"Not an evening person, I guess," Charme jibes lightly.

>>
And here goes the chance...
>>
>>33452090
Sounds about right, yeah.
>>
Anyway, Battleplan:

We need to get Charme to steal the dock manager's records, showing that a "priest" is smuggling stuff and doublecrossing Terme in the process (by aking more than his share). Then, we need to blackmail both the dock manager and the "priest" so that they pay off our debt (for starter)
>>
>>33452287
That...sounds like it could go wrong in many different ways.
>>
>>33452326
Sure it does. But the alternative is to let those two idiotic criminals do it on their own while we struggle to pay off a debt bigger than some student loans.

I'd say it's time to speed up our game. We can't continue to dungeon crawl and sell merchandise for petty mones
>>
>>33452543

I thought the end game would be replacing Terme as the crimelord of the city, either as his natural successor or through violent means

You opt to head straight home after that. Arriving back at the store, you find Euria waiting patiently in the front room again. She pouts at you as you take your time to ease yourself back into your own home. "I made you all food. An' I been waiting here for you to get back. Then it got dark, and I'm just here getting worried. I mean what if you guys had gotten yourselves shanked? Or eaten in the dungeons! Or.. I don't even know! And here you are, wandering in at, what time do you even call this?"

You walk over and pull Euria into a hug. "Thanks! It smells great."

She grumbles back. "Hurry up, it's gettin' cold."

The four of you file into the back room and settle down to eat. Despite her protests that she's perfectly fine, you insist on feeding Charme yourself. Of course, after the first spoonful you slip into her mouth, her protests die off and she sits quietly, content to let you look after her. Once Charme has eaten her fill and you've quickly swallowed enough to fill yourself, you tell Tear to help Euria clean up and talk it upon yourself to walk Charme up to bed.

As soon as you're alone in the bedroom, Charme chuckles happily. "Maybe I should get killed more often if this is the treatment I get."

"Actually," you correct her, "I'm using that as a cover to get you alone."

"Hoo? Do go on~" the grin widens.

Your own grin stretches to match hers. "I think it's time to talk about that thing I need you to steal."

You finish your recollection of the events transpiring in the cafe earlier, and the exchange between the manager and the priest.

"So," Charme muses, "you're thinking about the leverage you could get if you got your hands on those records. I like it."

You continue, "the records themselves would be great for seeing what's going in and out of the city, and seeing who the main players are, but I'm also thinking I-"

Meta hint coming up right here. Consider the priest's disposition towards the manager's demands during their conversation, and why this might suggest these two options are mutually exclusive.
>>
>>33464709
Yeah, I didn't think that through at all.

Just the priest then.
>>
>>33464683
>want to break the balance of power
I'm not sure whether to weaken the church, or replace the merchants. I'm REALLY not sure if we should go against or support Terme. But the start of any of those begins here.
>>
>>33464683
>>want to use it to blackmail the priest?

We can get the inquisitor off our back.
>>
>>33464730
Supporting Terme obviously, and we should try and weaken the Church.
>>
Also we should get Charme some better gear
>>
>>33464730
>I'm REALLY not sure if we should go against or support Terme.

Don't fight Terme. Terme is protecting you, if you tried to break right now he wouldn't even need to crush you. Gather info all you like, but absolutely do not make a move against him until you can actually back it up. And even then it may not be profitable to make an enemy of Terme.
>>
>>33464730

Going against Terme would be foolish.
>>
>>33464891
So, use on Church Guy to get Inquisitor down then?
>>
>>33464955
Didn't mean to link, meant more as a general query
>>
>>33464955
As an immediate action, yes.
>>
>>33464955

Removing the Inquisitor would be the a safe short-term goal.

Long term goal? Weakening the church might be good though not sure how to accomplish that
>>
>>33464974
Creating a second branch of it?
>>
>>33464974
Direct confrontation may not be necessary. If you weakened the church to the point where magic becomes legal, your potential profits would drop because now everyone can play that game. A more lucrative situation is one in which you have assured that the church does not dare move against you, at least to a certain pain limit of illegal traffic. That would leave you able to act with a greater degree of freedom in a market where your opponents have little. That is profitable. War is not.
>>
>>33464683
"-want to blackmail that priest. Having someone inside the Church should be a pretty good way of keeping tabs on the Inquisitor and keeping him off our backs."

"Makes sense," Charme says. "Alright, I know what I'm looking for. I'll head over and scope the place now while there's at least a little light left. I'll hit in the early hours, and be back for breakfast!" She stands, making her way to the stairs.

You put a hand on her shoulder, stopping her. "Tear can't know about this. Not yet."

Charme nods, "so you don't even want her to know I'm up to something? Aah, fine. Guess I'll take the window." She pushes the shutters open and heaves herself out onto your roof. "Wish me luck!"
And she's gone.

With nothing much else to do, you settle down into bed, carefully arranging the pillows beside you to appear as if both you and Charme are sleeping in the big bed, and let sleep take you.

You awake a few hours later, pre-dawn light shimmering through the open window. Charme is gently rustling you, a confident smile on her face. Judging by the peaceful breathing, Tear and Euria are still sleeping soundly.

Focusing on Charme, you begin to sit up. Seeing you awake, she silently produces a large binder of paper, offering it to you. You flick through it, and this is definitely the records you were hoping for. The manager has even had the decency to mark out the discrepancies for you, and you can clearly see where the contraband is going, and take some good guesses as to who's buying. Interestingly, it looks like the owners of the new Big Bash store are buying up just as much as Terme...

>Take the binder to the church and find the priest immediately?
>Wait until later?
>Other?
>>
>>33465185
>Other?

Take out few of the pages containing discrepancies and take it with you to blackmail the church. Just enough to let him know that you are serious.

Leave the binder with Charme. If the church pulls anything funny, you'll have leverage.
>>
Let's remember: the dock manager also need to be blackmailed. I think we could pay off our debt pretty fast with only 1% of what this guy is payed
>>
>>33465289

I thought our debt was a ludicrous amount. Could someone remind me what the actual amount was?
>>
>>33465299
No.

Because it's still growing, I haven't kept track of it. Ask Tear.
>>
>>33465299
Currently owed: 25,455,055 pix with 12% interest per month.
In cash, you have 1,354,254 pix, of which 505,000 is to be paid to Jacob today.
>>
>>33465289
I'd rather not overextend this blackmail. Let's make sure we get the Inquisitor off our back first. Gives the dock manager time to forget and leave himself open, as well.

>>33465299
No, it would take a significant fraction of the dock's profits over the course of a few months or even years to pay off the debt. It's not happening.

Definitely leave the binder with Charme. We don't have anywhere that's truly safe AND out of Tear's view yet. Give instruction to Charme on bailing us out if things go sour, or write up a script for causing a scene.

I'm a little concerned about what Tear will say if we go now and leave her in the shop. We could always just say that we "dealt with the Inquisitor problem" though.

ehh, let's do it.
>Go to the church with a couple of pages.
>>
Also: we need to be disguised if we go to the Church. We went paedofinder general on their Inquisitor, so the priests probably don't like us
>>
>>33465332

So we need to make over 3 million pix per month just to keep pace with interest.

Pix is basically yen in modern day conventions, correct? So basically 30k dollars per month.

>>33465185

Mkay, so plan of action is to take some choice pages to the church now in a disguise and find the priest. The blackmail angle is threatening to release the double-dealing to Terme, so leave the binder with Charme with orders to leak it to Tear/Terme if you don't come back safely.

Unless there are protests, I shall begin writing.

You gesture for Charme to quietly follow you out the room to the store, and carefully remove some of the better pages from the binder, the ones that very clearly display the priest's shady business and double-dealing. And more specifically the fact that the most valuable items are definitely not headed in Terme's direction.

Grabbing some of the rough men's clothing from the corner display, you dress yourself up in a different enough fashion that most folk shouldn't be able to recognize you at a distance. Then you hand the binder back to Charme. "I'm going to go meet the priest now. If I'm not back before opening hours, assume the worst and take that to Tear, tell her the Church has got me and Terme needs to see this."
She wishes you luck and watches you depart.

The quiet of the city's streets in the predawn is somewhat eerie, with none of the sleepy city's residents having yet awoken. At this time in the morning, even the rogues of the night will have fled the oncoming dawn, and not even the cats loitering the alleys just yet. Though such a fact does not affect the church. Since their gospel tells them that a man must always be free to pray, it remains open at all hours.
Your way is clear to enter the gaudy building, to pass beneath the stained glass and approach the altar; though this is not where you're headed. The pews are sparsely populated with men of the cloth, saying their morning words before their business for the day commences. Your search among them and find the man you're looking for thankfully near the back in the shade of the decorated pillars.

You quietly take a seat beside him, though he does not react until you speak.

Well, time to hope this goes okay.

"I have some documents you might like to see." The priest tips his ear, and finally opens his eyes when he hears the rustle of paper being pulled from your pocket.

He discreetly takes them from you, keeping his hands below the bench, out of sight of his fellow. With one half-closed eye, he parses the first page, his previously serene visage quickly tensing as he reads further. "Where did you get these?"

You whisper back, "from the binder that is now in my colleague's possession. There are lots more where these came from."

He clears his throat. "These are some very interesting documents, child. It was good of you to bring them to the Church's attention. If you would let me have access to the rest of these documents, we shall bring this sinner into the light, and see him repent before the Lord."

Oh, so he's playing dumb?

>>
>>33466124
You don't answer his question, instead deigning to explain to him some of the finer points he may have missed on the page. "It's interesting," you say quietly, "that of all these recorded contraband items passing through, it's only a certain set of items that seem to go missing. As if someone were carefully assessing what people wouldn't notice go missing and also bring the most money back. And the last known locations might suggest that they were being sold to two different sets of people. Two sets! That's a scary thought," you pause on that, noting with satisfaction that the priest is growing more and more uncomfortable.

"Indeed. Such a thing should be righteously quenched as soon as possible."

You ignore him again, "but this second group... they're getting all the best bits, aren't they? But they only started getting them recently." You produce another sheet that supports your suggestion. "I wonder if they know that someone else is getting all their best."

He grips your arm, squeezing tight. His vice-like grip pinches your flesh, but you keep from crying out. He hisses in your ear, leaning in close now. "What do you want?"

"The Inquisitor should stop nosing into others' business. If he interferes with Terme or any of the merchants under his protection again, Terme will come for the man responsible for these dealings, and there is nothing the Church can do to stop him."

The priest does not respond, and you tug your arm away from him and bid him a good day. As you turn to leave, he calls out after you. "Boy, who are you? What do you gain from this?"
You smile, and tip your cap to him before departing.

Thanks you!

I have two questions: How much pages that clearly proves the priest's culpability are in the binder? And what ammount of money are we talking about?

For the planning part, I'd say that we need to tell Caillou that we may help him get out of the Inquisition's radar, if he wishes.

Also, we need to make the dock manager pay our silence. Maybe in cash, maybe by some favor here and there. I wonder if he could simply increase the taxes on one item, but not for the guy who sell them to us.
>>
>>33467343
I also must say this thread was awesome. I didn't expect the priest to mistake us for a boy after talking to us, but what do you know?
>>
>>33467343
There is nothing in the binder indicating this particular priest is involved. You only know of his involvement thanks to overhearing him. Though a fair guess says Terme knows who his corrupt contacts are.
The patterns in the contraband movement are identical enough to know that it's all on one person acting without authority, while the areas of movement and sale indicate who is receiving the goods.
Value seems to average around 1million pix per week over between 10 to 20 items.

It's worth this is all in the manager's footnotes and Recette is moatly working on those to understand what she's reading.
>>
>>33468943

Why not just tell Terme about it? Full Terme loyalty route doesn't sound bad at all. We're certainly not shying away from illegal acts so that can't be the problem.

>>
>>33470127

>Why not just tell Terme about it? Full Terme loyalty route doesn't sound bad at all

Terme is a bastard. Being loyal to him won't help our debt, and would get us killed
>>
>>33470387
I've seen no reason to believe this in the quest.

>>
>>33470754
>>33470696

>He's planning to cancel it when she's older.

No he's not. Tear only said he expects her to pay back before hitting adulthood. Probably a thinly veiled threat that he'll put Recette in a borthel if the debt is still here.

Also, 12% interests rate. That's not someone who want to help us.

>And the way things are going, she's going to be quite the crime lord by the time that happens

While agree Recette is going to grow into a mighty crime lord, we'll need to kill Terme before that. Crime bosses don't like potential rivals
>>
>>33470696
>>33470754
>>33470881

I'm fairly sure it was hinted that Terme was grooming us as a potential successor or top lieutenant. Let me see if I can find where it says that.

>>33470997
So the "Yes he is, he's going to cut it when she turns 20." is just a speculation?

In my opinion, Terme is just a loan shark who found a convenient money-spitting machine. Even if he doesn't have ill intent toward us, helping him more than what is required to survive is hurting us
>>
>>33471125
>So the "Yes he is, he's going to cut it when she turns 20." is just a speculation?
Not that part, it was in an earlier thread.
>>
>>33470985
From thread 4
>Mr. Terme has simply told you that you'll be able to pay it off before you turn 20.

Still going through the other threads and I'm not exactly being thorough.
>>33471125
>Even if he doesn't have ill intent toward us, helping him more than what is required to survive is hurting us
Why? We all want to be involved with crime. He's involved with crime. Having ties to him can only help us, if we don't get stupid and betray him.
>>
>>33471125

So here's all the relevant Terme quotes I found

>You're so goddamn adorable that even the local mafia boss, after lynching your Papa for failing to repay his debt, decided to take you in as a runner and petty peddler instead of selling your body on the black market, like he usually does. He also gave some pretty favorable terms for paying back the debt, that might even see you free before you turn 20!

>I see Mr. Terme wasn't exaggerating your bartering talents. Perhaps you are the one we need for the job

>Specifically, I am Mr. Terme's personal financial adviser. He has apparently taken a liking to you, as he has assigned me to assist you in repaying your debt to our company. As such, I have... acquired... a building that would be more suitable for your purposes

>Mr. Terme was very pleased to hear my report of how you handled the situation."

>>Meta: Mr. Terme is a very kind individual, he included a get-out clause that allows Recette to become free of all remaining debt if she remains a loyal member of one of Terme Finance's umbrella of income groups until her twentieth birthday. Assuming she survives that long.

That's straight from Kaleun's mouth

> can at least tell you that Terme Finance does not just lend wealth in such vast quantities with no good reason. And you are not the first Lemongrass to be a direct employee of Mr. Terme

>"So why was Papa special?"
He was one of Mr. Terme's best agents. But after that utter failure with the-"
>>
>>33471186
>Mr. Terme has simply told you that you'll be able to pay it off before you turn 20.

See? "pay it off".

>Why? We all want to be involved with crime. He's involved with crime. Having ties to him can only help us, if we don't get stupid and betray him.

Because Recette is basicaly his slave. And while we want to be involved in crime, I at least refuses that Recette settle to be just another henchloli. So I say we kill that bastard and steal his stuff. Obviously, not soon, but eventually.
>>
>>33471305
Fuck that.

>>>Meta: Mr. Terme is a very kind individual, he included a get-out clause that allows Recette to become free of all remaining debt if she remains a loyal member of one of Terme Finance's umbrella of income groups until her twentieth birthday. Assuming she survives that long.

Loyal henchloli plan is go.
>>
>>33471264
>Meta: Mr. Terme is a very kind individual, he included a get-out clause that allows Recette to become free of all remaining debt if she remains a loyal member of one of Terme Finance's umbrella of income groups until her twentieth birthday. Assuming she survives that long.

My bad, then. Could you tell me where you found this?
>>
>>33471264

So here's what I infer:

1. Papa Recette used to work as one of Terme's best agents, but fell out of favor for some reason.

2. The humongous amount of debt wouldn't be normally lent out to any individual. Papa Recette was a special case.

3. Terme specifically made an exception to his usual policies and brought Recette under his wings instead of selling her on the black market.

4. Terme decided to send Tear, a valuable asset, to advice and cultivate Recette while she's still young.

5. The contract has a get-out clause that allows the debt to go away if Recette remains under Terme.

Here's what I'm thinking. Terme decided very early on that Recette had potential to succeed Papa Recette as one of his best agents. That's why he made all these special exceptions, sent Tear as an advisor, and specifically included a get-out clause.

In fact, I am starting to suspect that loaning the money to Papa Recette was a set-up. Terme knew Papa Recette wouldn't be able to pay back the money, but he valued Recette's potential more than he valued the money.
>>
Terme talk aside, do we want to attempt becoming known as a specialized store at all?

That doesn't change the fact he'll leech on us for ~10 years, though.

But I admit I'd like for Recette to kill him because I hate that kind of guy.

Also, let's remember that the essence of capitalism is to have for goal the aquisition of the biggest capital. Settling to be a second-fiddle is the opposite of that.
>>
>>33471354
>In fact, I am starting to suspect that loaning the money to Papa Recette was a set-up. Terme knew Papa Recette wouldn't be able to pay back the money, but he valued Recette's potential more than he valued the money.
Dude thats Tzeench tier scheming to kill off our dad over a decade ago for

Its more likely he's just a kind but ruthless crime lord who thinks we're adorable and valuable
>>
>>33471400
Considering she seems able to spend her 1 million pix however she wants, I don't think Tear cares too much about taking every last cent from her before she's able to enjoy it.
>>
>>33471400
>Also, let's remember that the essence of capitalism is to have for goal the aquisition of the biggest capital.
No, its to make all your competitors your bitches raking in the capital for you.

We shall ascend and take over, and Terme shall become indebt to us, and who knows, if he serves us well enough, we might favor his children and spare them...
>>
>>33471418

That's what I'd say if Papa Recette wasn't one of his best agents. Tear's reluctance to tell the full story doesn't help matters either.

He also wouldn't know that we were valuable from the very start, which is when the contract with the get-out clause was made.

So either he thought we were so adorable that we would make a valuable asset when we turn 20, or he had some deeper motivations.
>>
>>33471360
I'm okay with it, but we need to know what sell best before taking a decision.

It would arguably be most efficient to gain Terme's trust and become his right-hand and surrogate daughter before we decide to act against him.

There are other powerful entities like the Church, Merchants, Big Bash, Alouette's family in the city. If we remove Terme too soon, we won't be able to take his network intact. Which means other entities will fill in the gap, and we will be marginalized.

We should focus on absorbing or weakening other entities before we make the big move against Terme.
>>
>>33471504
>Are you implying we should stay loyal to a guy who killed a guy just to put his hand on his daugther?
Not him, but I am. We don't know the full story. Even if we did, Recette likes her new job and has no problems doing all sorts of illegal shit. We have no reason to backstab him other than spite.

>>33471547
Sure. I'll go along with this if it gets you moving in the same direction as me for now.
>>
>>33471504

No, but simply killing the guy right now as we are would waste his resources. We can't just kill the guy and say "By law of conquest, I am now mafia don."

We gotta build a rival network before we can think of doing anything. We want all the money and power, not just empty revenge.
>>
>>33471547
>We should focus on absorbing or weakening other entities before we make the big move against Terme.

On this, I agree. Good thinking.

I say that we need to increase the number of our contacts, and try the good old "fix the sinking ship" gambit: basically, we find an organisation in trouble, help them and then have them in the palm of our hand.

Since we can blackmail the dock manager, maybe we should take a try at smuggling? I think Euria knows people into those circles.
>>
>>33471504
>I'm okay with it, but we need to know what sell best before taking a decision.
I think anything that identifies our store as the place to go for [a thing] will sell better than the current hodge-podge of items we're stocking.

I agree, but it's important that, if we're the place to go fo [a thing], [a thing] is something that sell for good money.

What about my idea for "adventurer loan"? We lend adventuring gears and money to adventurers (with nearly-outrageously inflated prices and interest rates), since no one want to loan things to such a dangerous profession.
>>
>>33471754
Not necessarily. We might just want to sell something legal to get a reputation that isn't completely shit.
>>
>>33471637

I do realize it, and would like to know more about Recette than "father worked for mob boss who later killed him, leaving her with the debt".

I mean, who's Recette's mom, for exemple?

I admit I am hard-headed on this issue, but Terme, as he is presented, is absolutly repugnant to me. Maybe that'll change if he changes from an ominous presence in the background to a man of flesh and blood.

Anyway, this Quest is too awesome to be wasted on quarelling. Why not agree to disagree?
