Previously, on Avatar Quest......

A near-fatal encounter with Galda caused a stunning revelation; you are the Avatar. At first, you were unconvinced, dismissing the suspicions shown by your mother and Ren as foolish. But, you secretly confided in Felna that you wished to see if you could bend Fire. She took you to a hidden beach on a lake, and instructed you on how to perform basic Firebending techniques. You followed her instructions, and to your astonishment, were able to bend fire. You spent the day training relentlessly, until your instructor told you to call it quits. On the way back to camp, Felna asked that you keep her training you secret, as she didn't want everyone else to know that she is a Firebender. You agreed, and informed her that you wished to keep your identity as the Avatar secret as well. The two of you discussed what revealing yourself to the world would mean before returning to camp, where you informed your mother and father of the lake that you and Felna had found. The two of you led the others to the lake, where it was decided that the settlement would be constructed. Galda then asked to speak with you in private, where she asked why you choose not to inflict any sort of punishment on her for what she did to you. You told her that perhaps you simply weren't the kind of person she thought you were before returning to the others. As Galda and Felna went off to talk, the guys asked you for details about the events of late. You told them you weren't allowed to say, and Bulo turned the conversation to his favorite subject: you and Felna. He got on your nerves to the point where you launched him into the lake, attracting the attention of the Shark Turtle from before. You went into the lake to save your brother, and were somewhat surprised when the beast recognized you, and took the pair of you back to shore. The adults went off to plan the settlement, wh-

>>
>Welcome to Avatar Quest. Here are the rules.

Decisions are made by vote. Each vote has a ten minute interval, after which, the option that receives the most votes it the one that is chosen.

There are no write-ins unless explicitly stated

Some options require rolls. In that event, rolls will be out of 100. Whether rolls succeed or fail is decided by the first three rolls. If one passes, then you succeed regardless of the other two. Rolls will really only occur during training, or when trying something new.
All decisions are final. If you regret voting for something, too bad. Think carefully before you make decisions.

Try to keep waifu bullshit to a minimum.

"Come on, we have work to do," you tell everyone. "I want to see what the adults are up to."

"Planning the city," Galda tells you. "Come on, your memory can't be THAT bad."

"Well, I wanna help plan the city," you tell her.

"That could be fun," Sonyo admits.

"I don't think the adults want our help," Lee tells you.

"Only one way to find out," Felna replies. "Let's go."

You make your way to where the adults are gathered, discussing their plans for the new settlement. You hear their conversation as you approach.

"....able to construct docks yet," Ren says. "I don't really see the point in building them at all, to be perfectly honest."

"To allow us to fish in the deeper parts of the lake," your father responds, as if talking to a child.

"I understand that," Ren replies. "But I think that's unnecessary, given the fact that we can just as easily fish from the shore, or make canoes. Either option would take far less effort and resources."

"Canoes would be vulnerable to that Shark Turtle in the lake," your father argues.

"Do you honestly believe we'll build anything large enough to not be vulnerable to that thing?" your mother asks.

"Besides, the Shark Turtle didn't seem all that aggressive," Sena chimes in.

"The Shark Turtle shouldn't be a problem," you speak up. "So long as you leave him be, he should leave you be."

Your father gives you a hard look ."This discussion is for the adults, Shin."

"He may be right," Ren argues for you.

"I'm not willing to trust that that animal will remain docile," your father snaps at him. "We either need to find a way to make ourselves invulnerable to it, or we need to find a way to kill it."

"You can't kill it!" Felna protests.

"I believe I just said that this conversation is for adults," your father replies coldly.

"Felna and Shin found the damn place, let them have a say in what happens with it," your mother tells him.

"They did; they picked the location we would build our settlement on," your father tells her. "Maybe if they're good, we'll name a building or the lake after them."

"You really should show them some respect," your mother tells him in irritation.

"They are children. Why should I treat them as anything else?" your father asks.

We're not a child, though. Shin's sixteen, that's old enough to be considered a man in this culture. Dad's just being stubborn. You remain completely silent, though many of the others do not.

"Wow, replace "children" with "nonbenders", and this is exactly the sort of thing I'd expected to hear from your family," Galda mutters, earning a glare from Felna.

"The fact that the two of them have survived dangerous situations, displayed impressive combat skills, and located the spot that we will be making into our home on their own should make you respect them," Lee tells your father.

Your father glares at him. "And who are you to tell me who I should and should not respect? You've done none of the things that you've praised them for."

Lee keeps his gaze steady. "Would you like me to demonstrate one of the qualities I praised within myself?"

Your father smirks. "Sure, kid. Show me that you can fight."

You decide to once again remain silent, letting Lee and your father sort this out on their own. However, just like last time, not everyone is capable of keeping quiet.

"I'll fight him," Felna speaks up.

"No, I will," Galda tells her.

"Neither of you will," your father tells them. "You're his sisters; it would be difficult to trust that you're giving your all. No, he is going to face me."

Lee doesn't miss a beat. "I accept."

Your father chuckles. "You have guts; I'll give you that."

"I absolutely will not allow this to happen!" Ren speaks up.

Lee looks at his father. "He has issued a challenge to me; it is my decision whether to accept or decline, father. I have accepted."

"See? He's accepted," your father tells Ren mockingly.

"Are we to battle here?" Lee asks.

"No; I'm not giving you any sort of advantage," your father replies. "If you wish to earn my respect, then you will fight me where I am at my strongest."

Lee nods. "Very well. Where did you have in mind?"

"The creek seems like a good enough place," your father tells him.

Lee nods and turns, starting his walk to the creek. Your father smirks as he follows. One by one, everyone else does too.

Alternatively, we could say to Lee, "I made the same mistake you are. I challenged a better fighter than me, having been goaded into it by childish insults. My father's are more thickly veiled, but the intent is the same. I ask that you decline this challenge so we can finally get back to work."
>>
>>33433139
Yeah. Yeah I am. Looking back I should have the supported the choice to have us fight him.

So does anyone have any ideas for dealing with shark-turtle provided we do convince our father to listen to us? I was thinking maybe we could construct something like a bay or breakwater near the mouth of the stream. Make a nice sheltered region that the shark-turtle can't easily get into while providing a habitat for fish to congregate in. Safety from shark-turtle (we need to name that thing sooner or later), better fishing, maybe even a possibility for aquaculture down the line. It wouldn't be that hard to make, either, with earthbending to move the materials.

We could alter the creek, help it travel upriver or to different waters nearby...alternatively, we could just have everyone deal. The fish it leaves behind will be enough for the group to live on, and we'll have farms prepared before any large groups start showing up.

Not the best idea, but providing the shark-turtle a steady supply of food so it suppresses its hunting instincts could work.

Remaining silent, you follow the others as they make their way to the creek bed. Everyone is careful to give your father and Lee a wide bit of space to have their fight in.

Your father wears a look of anticipation and barely-concealed excitement, while Lee keeps a calm, emotionless expression.

"Don't do this," your mother yells to your father. "This is pointless and childish, not to mention a waste of time."

"The boy wants to earn my respect," your father replies. "Here's his chance."

Lee keeps his gaze steady. "Are we starting?"

Your father nods. "Yes. Let's see what you can do."

Lee begins to slowly walk towards your father, his arms remaining at his sides, his expression not changing.

Your father laughs. "Really? You're going to make it this easy for me?"

Your father stomps on the ground in front of him and thrusts his right arm upward, pulling a large chunk of rock up. Making a punching motion with his left hand, he sends it hurling at impressive speed towards Lee.

Lee makes no effort to move out of the rock's path, but simply leans back, letting the rock soar over his head before he stands back up and resumes his slow pace towards your father.

Your father pulls up another chunk of rock, and hurls it, lower this time.

Lee calmly steps to the side, then steps back, resuming his leisurely stroll towards your father, whose face is turning red with anger.

"Alright kid. You're starting to irritate me," your father spits.

He stomps on the ground in front of himself and thrusts both fists upward, pulling two large chunks of rock from the ground. He hurls both, side by side, at Lee, who simply turns sideways, allowing the rocks to pass right by him before he faces your father again and continues to walk, getting closer and closer.

Your father pulls up one more chunk of Earth and hurls it at Lee, who turns sideways once again, allowing the rock to fly past him as he grabs your father by the wrist an-

-d pulls him into a kick to the stomach. Lee follows this up with a leg sweep that leaves your father on his back in the creek, Lee standing over him.

"Do you surrender?" Lee asks calmly.

In response, your father slams his elbows into the ground, causing a large column of Earth to quickly rise below him, throwing Lee back, and lifting him high into the air, much too high for Lee to reach.

Your father laughs down at his opponent. "You can't get to me here."

"And you cannot attack me from there," Lee replies.

"Of course I can," your father laughs, stomping on the column and pulling two large chunks from its sides.

Lee, in response, picks up a stone from the creek, and hurls it up at your father. The stone doesn't quite reach the top, and your father laughs before hurling his chunks of rock down at Lee, who leaps back to avoid them.

"Enough of this!" your mother yells up to your father. "Stop before this gets out of hand."

Your father ignores her, and rips more chunks of Earth from the sides, hurling them down at Lee, who continues to evade them.

"Father, stop this!" you yell.

Your father, predictably, ignores you, and continues to rain chunks of Earth down upon Lee, who manages to avoid them all.

You decide to take action yourself and focus on the column of Earth upon which your father is standing. You reach both hands towards the sky, before clenching them into fists and slowly lowering them back down.

The column of Earth rumbles beneath your father, who stops his attacks on Lee in order to maintain his balance. You hear him swear as his column descends to the ground. He glances in your direction, and you see intense rage burning in his eyes.

Pretty much everyone has now turned their attention to you, varied expressions visible on their faces.

"You should not have interfered," Lee tells you. "That fight was between your father and I."

"Well, now he's made it between me and him," your father tells Lee before addressing you. "You need to learn a lesson in respect, and in keeping out of business that doesn't concern you."

Your father stomps and pulls up a column of Earth, which begins to rapidly move towards you.

You stomp on the ground and thrust both fists up, pulling a column of Earth up in front of yourself, and sending it towards the one sent by your father.

The two columns collide, shattering each other on impact, and creating a thick cloud of dust. From that cloud, a large rock comes hurling at you, striking you in the chest. The wind is knocked out of you, and you are thrown onto your back, wincing as it's cut by the rocks in the creek bed.

"You may be an impressive Earthbender compared to most, but you are lack the experience to use it properly," your father tells you, approaching as the smoke clears. "I've fought in more battles than the number of years you've been alive; you're out of your league, child."

No, it gets him to shut up. He's treating us like a child because he thinks we were making stories up about what happened with Galda. "I didn't even want to fight you father, I wanted to stop it!" you shout, rising into a sitting position.

"Your interference has consequences," your father replies. "You got involved in a fight that was not yours, so it became yours."

"I surrender," you tell him.

He raises a brow as he stares down at you. "Is that right? I'm not convinced that you've learned your lesson."

"Father, don't you thin-" Bulo begins.

"Silence!" your father yells at him. "Unless you want to be given the same lesson as your brother, you will shut your mouth."

Bulo clenches his fists, but your mother puts a hand on his shoulder, shaking her head at him, and Bulo backs down.

Your father turns his attention back to you. "I want to hear you say that you will never speak out of turn again, that you will never give your opinion unless it is asked for, that you will never presume to address me as an equal, rather than a father, and that you will never tell such ridiculous tall tales again."

You rise to your feet, and take a deep breath, bringing your hands in close and slowly pushing them towards the ground.

Looking your father dead in the eye, you tell him, "They aren't tall tales."

You thrust both fists towards your father, unleashing a great torrent of flame upon him. His eyes widen, and he quickly raises a column of Earth to shield himself from your attack.

For a while, there is nothing but stunned silence. All eyes are on you as your attack ceases, and you keep your own eyes on the column of Earth protecting your father. The column begins to shake, and slowly, lifts out of the ground as a gigantic chunk of Earth.

As your father lifts the column into the air, you get a good look at his face. Desperation, rage, and fear are all plainly visible in his expression. And you have no problem believing that he will hurl that potentially lethal bit of rock at you.

You remain completely still, but prepare yourself to dodge when he throws that chunk of Earth.

As it turns out, you don't have to dodge. As your father prepares to throw the massive projectile at you, he is struck from the side by another flying rock. The column of Earth drops with an incredibly loud crash as your father hits the ground not far from it.

Looking in the direction the rock came from, you see your mother already raising another and preparing to throw it at your father.

"If you even think about trying to do that to our son again, I am going to kill you," your mother warns him.

Your father gets to his feet and glares at her. The two hold each other's gazes for a few seconds, then your father looks away, backing down.

Your mother lowers the rock she was preparing to throw at her father, and looks at you, concern etched into her expression. Galda looks between you and your father, a contemplative expression on her face. Felna lets out a relieved sigh, as does Bulo. Lee looks between you and your father, his expression unreadable. Ren shakes his head in disappointment at your father, and Sena does the same. Sonyo just looks very upset by all that he has seen.

Your father turns and walks back towards the beach.

"So, yeah, pretty sure I'm the Avatar," you tell everyone. "Sorry for not saying something sooner."

Your mother's expression slowly turns to one of slight amusement. "Aren't you the one who said you being the Avatar was ridiculous?"

"Yeah, I think he is," Ren agrees.

"Seriously? The Avatar?" Bulo asks in disbelief.

"You can Firebend? That was amazing!" Sonyo tells you.

Galda and Ren honestly seem unsurprised by the revelation, and neither does Felna, for obvious reasons.

Your mother walks over to you and hugs you tightly.

"I'm so sorry I let things get that out of hand," she tells you, and by her voice, it sounds like she's crying. "I just didn't think your father....I'm sorry, Shin."

It would be weird for everyone else in the group and it could become publicly known which can cause all sorts of badness.

So what's our explanation for where we learned firebending? I suggest we go with self-taught. The reason we had Felna with us during it would be because we wanted someone to spot us in case we set our self on fire. She had already seen us do it, so we knew she'd believe us when we asked for her help.
>>
>>33436521

Three, technically, but we got the third one's throat slit before he did anything that couldn't be explained by really advanced waterbending. We're the fourth. Assuming Wan and his successor lived to a fairly old age (though I don't think the successor did, I recall Som saying he died saving people from a volcano or something like that), we're at most 200 years from the first Harmonic Convergence. Which is trippy as hell, since it means we're a good twenty thousand years before the first series.

"Thank you," she responds, pulling back and wiping her face. "I'm going to go have a talk with your father. You and I can discuss things more later."

She gives you a kiss on the forehead, and goes after your dad.

Felna, Bulo, and Sonyo run over to you next, joining you all in a group hug. You remain crushed between them for several seconds until you hear the sound of someone clearing their throat.

Turning your head, you see Galda looking at you with an unreadable expression.

"Yes," you tell her.

She nods and turns, walking up the creek bed a little bit to get out of ear shot of the others. Ignoring the concerned looks of Felna, Bulo, and Sonyo, you follow her, coming to stand next to her away from the others.

Galda doesn't say anything for a little while, and when she does speak, her voice is a little shaky.

"I....I owe you an apology," she manages to get out. "I assumed that you were like every other bender I'd met; arrogant, seeing yourself as superior to everyone without your precious gifts. When I found out what you are, that didn't exactly help my opinion of you, either. But, what you just did. When you first stepped in, I thought you were just trying to keep your dad from getting hurt. But, you were willing to stand up to him, to fight him, because you believed what he was doing was wrong, because you wanted to help my brother. Lee is a great fighter, but, I think we both know he was going to lose. There was no real risk to your dad, but you stopped the fight out of concern for my brother."

She sighs. "I guess...I guess I was wrong. You aren't like other benders."

You won't have to worry about me killing you anymore, so long as you don't do something to earn that. But, I will still be keeping a close eye on you. You're dangerous, and I don't like how much time you've been spending with my sister. Just don't do anything stupid...well, stupid for you, and we'll be okay."

With that, she turns and walks back to the others.

>>33437529
Yeah, if she kills us she has to wait at least a decade for another Avatar to emerge and be identified, and there's no guarantee they'll appear in her own kingdom.
