You are John James Green, mutant vagrant.

It’s an awkward walk home for you. On the one hand, you’re glad to have escaped unscathed from the jaws of potential embarrassment. On the other, you’re not entirely sure what all of this means, if anything. Every so often you sneak little glances at Laura as she marches alongside you, the beads at the end of her braid bobbing up and down to the rhythm of her step.

Her choice was an… interesting… one. She stared at the little baubles for a good long time, as if evaluating their every minute detail, before raising her hand in an awkward, tentative way kinda reminiscent of a sportsman flagging down a referee. Then she said, in an unfamiliar, halting tone:

“Is it possible to choose the one that looks best?”

The merchant couple responded by looking over at one another and shrugging, before the woman purred out a “Yes.”

Apparently the husband-wife ones looked best. Hence, the awkwardness.
>>
The two of you arrive home as the day begins to darken, the sun slipping down behind the clouds and shifting the sky back toward the muted, sterile greys of late winter. You tread carefully down the stairs into the station, your abundance of shopping bags making you feel like one of those fancy Elizabethan chicks with the excessive dresses must’ve felt.

“Dios mio…” That would be Gaby spotting you. She trails toward you and you cargo, her eyes wide. “How did you pay for all this?”

You grin, and for a moment you feel like you’re made of gold.

“I’m a detective now. I solve hard cases for hard money.” Maybe you should invest in a Sherlock hat.

Layla follows close behind Gaby, all fifteen (holy shit she’s learning to keep more of her duplicates around longer, not good) of her. Noriko lags after them both, looking vaguely bemused.

“You’re looking pretty exotic there.” She nods toward your new fashion statement, making you feel just a little more self-conscious than you’d like.

“Hey,” You glance over Noriko’s shoulder, at the mostly empty platform. “Where is everyone?”

She shrugs.

“Kevin and Lucas took the vampire to see those”– Her nose visibly wrinkles, as though she suffering through an awful smell –“X-people.” Yeah, it only started getting easier to say ‘Young X-Men’ with a straight face after seventh or eighth time you had to use it in a real conversation. “Guess they’re still there.”

Well, that’s good to know. You imagine that Hisako chick wants to know absolutely everything that went down – she seems like the thorough type, like she’d be a cop or something if it weren’t for the whole dirty muties stealin’ our jerbs thing.

“Cool.” Still… “Guess we can go after them if they’re out too late. For now, who wants to set up a tent?”

“Seriously?” One of the Laylas darts by you, rummaging through the assorted bags.

“Yep.” You let your chest puff out a little. JJ strong, JJ procure foodstuffs for hobo family, JJ beat chest and eat people when provoked. “Picked up some real person food too. Some minced beef, some good chicken, some spaghetti…” Lots and lots of spaghetti, actually. You don’t know why but you just feel drawn to it.

You and the group spend a little while setting up the tent, Layla’s ability to be everywhere at once proving useful for once, if no less annoying. A few failed attempts and sore thumbs later, you end up with a big, arched tent standing in the middle of the platform, large enough to house the whole lot of you and maybe one or two more. Christ, it’s beautiful…

You spend the next hour just lying back on one of your sleeping bags, admiring your handiwork.

Well done, JJ. Well done.

Dreamily considering what you could get done with the fruits of your next payday, you flick idly through your texts. You’ve got a reply from Peter, informing you that he’s free tonight, possibly tomorrow afternoon too, which reminds you message that Remy guy. Gotta touch base there at some point. Sighing contentedly, you stash the phone away, and – wait.

Wait a minute.

You tug it back out, glancing through your message logs again.

>UNKNOWN: 6 NEW MESSAGES

Six. Were there always six?

Biting your lip, you open them one after the other. They don’t… really say much. The first two ask if that’s you turning off the machines around it. The timestamp on the third is a little later, the text warped and discoloured.

>A RE YoU ST I I I LL THERE?

Then the fourth:

>ICA N’T FEE E E EL AAAAN Y Y THING AR E YOU S T I L L L L L L L L L there

You sit up, cringing inwardly. The fifth:

>I d ON’T W W W A nT TO G O
>>
>>33409192
well, who needs sleep anyway?
>>
>(2/3)

The sixth… is just a stream of unintelligible, meaningless text, barely any of it even recognizable as English – or any other language you know of. Quietly, you stow your phone back away in your pocket and run your hands through your hair.

“Hey…” You voice is a little hoarse. “Hey, everyone, I got some stuff I need to tell you guys.”

“Is it that you’re a lady now?” Asks a Layla, snickering quietly. “A lady with pretty braids?”

“…No.” You breathe out a long, difficult sigh. This is hard. Noriko seems to notice the strain in your voice and sits down, shaking her head at Layla(s).

“What is it, JJ?”

You tell them.

It takes a while, and eventually you have to show them the… messages… you got from UNKNOWN. The faces assembled before you pass through a gamut of shock, disgust, and gut-wrenching horror, before their reactions veer out in different directions.

Unexpectedly, Gaby takes it the best – you get the impression that bad people doing bad things doesn’t surprise her. It’s just how things are. There are good people and bad people and the bad people are terrible, end of. Layla asks why someone would do anything like this a few times, and you answer her as best you can, but she’s clearly not really talking to you. Noriko…

Electricity coils across her shoulders, bright white with ionizing heat.

“I’ve been… you mean I’ve been…” You shift back instinctively. She looks like she’s about to either barf or explode. “…I’ve been eating people? Human people…?”

“Well…” You clear your throat, giving you a moment to think. “…I’m not sure. I don’t know if it’s made from people or if it just, like, incubates in the”–

“What’s the difference!?” Her hands fold up over her head, as if trying desperately to hold her grey matter in, keep it from bursting out into the world. “What difference does that make!?”

Man, if it’s one or the other, you hope she barfs…

“Look…” You hold your hands up. That’s supposed to be calming, right? Man you hope you don’t look too absolutely terrified. Moderately absolutely terrified would be best. “…You’re not the only one. Creeper fooled a lot of people. A lot. Me, you, Kevin…”

At least Noriko didn’t actively cart this stuff around. You… you actually had some small part in making all this possible. The chemists brewed it, you delivered it, and the dealers dealt it. You were part of the chain. You’re implicit in it, the whole thing.

“…But if you don’t calm down right now, you’re going to hurt someone…”

She looks up at you through strings of swaying, electrically charged hair, her brow creased with effort and her eyes full of lightning.

“We’re going to make this right.” You add. “I’m going to meet with the… the X-guys… and we’re gonna do something about this.”

Almost like the real X-Men. Huh.

“…Really?” Her voice kinda reminds you of a Geiger counter when she’s like this.

You nod.

Slowly, she calms down, her inner glow folding back away, the flailing tendrils of lightning shrinking back under her skin. She breathes in and out slowly, and, with little warning, veers to the side to vomit over the edge of the platform.

“Urgh.” Layla covers her nose. “Gross.”

Let's be real. About this Jack stuff; we'll need better evidence than just our testimony and some stiff's messages. Maybe we can play up how we used to be Creeper's right hand boyo and just how deep we were in Jack's business back in the day.

My thought is that he had been doing it for a while, existing primarily in the machines as his body was sucked away and brain became less reliable. >[X] Go looking for the others.

“Don’t be a butt.” You say, clipping Layla cross the back of the head and inadvertently generating a new pair of duplicates. They rub their scalp in synchronized indignation, glaring up at you. “You gonna be okay, Noriko?”

Still leaning out over side of the platform, presumably in case of a second surge, she sucks in a deep, measured breath and glances back at you. A few stray sparks dance under her eyes, like tears made of blue fire.

“I’ll be fine.”

Yeah, you think she will. Out of all of them, she’s the one that’d probably last as long as you by her lonesome.

Getting up, you entrust Laura with half your funds, reasoning that the Scar isn’t particularly safe. She offers to accompany you, but you point out that someone should probably stick around to watch Noriko. Nodding in silent agreement, she sees you off, and you head back out into the cold.

The sky overhead is dim and coarse, transitioning unevenly from blackening grey to orange to deep, bloody red. You trudge through it, wrapping your jacket in close. On the way, you think a little about that kid, down there in the dark, and how he reached out to you through your phone. You kinda want to send something back, just in case, but you’re not sure what.
>>

It doesn’t take you long to reach the old library the Young X-Men call home, the smell of wet fur and spittle rising up through the ruins long before you see the building itself.

“Hey.” You say, as you cross the opposite road. You know the creature – Rahne, was it? – is out there, listening. You’ve grown somewhat accustomed to its scent.

Not really in the mood to stop and chat, you head into the building, making your way through the desolate, wind-swept lobby. You can smell people nearby – Victor, Hisako, the blonde guy. Kevin, Lucas, Anna. And a few others you’re not as well acquainted with.

You rap your knuckles against one of the bookshelves as you approach the central clearing. Don’t want to surprise these people. When they finally come into view, you see that Hisako is sitting beside Victor and another guy – tall, brown here, stern brow, probably in his late teens. That girl from before is with them too, the one with the blindfold, and she’s looking relatively awake. The blonde dude, Doug or whatever, appears to be talking to Anna off to the side. Kevin and Lucas are sitting opposite the others.

All eyes turn toward you.

>[X] You guess they’ve been told, then.

“Hey.” You nod in the girl’s – blindfold girl – general direction. “Good to see you up and about.”

She nods slowly, as if going through the motions of a dream, and smiles.

“Yes, thank you, very good.” There’s something a little worrying about that smile. “It’s good to see you, too. You’ve come a long way to be with us tonight.”

You pause. Why do you get the feeling that she’s not talking about the walk between here and your little hideout?

Before you can inquire further, the brunette, Mr. Tall Dashing and Stern, approaches with his hand held out.

“Hey. You don’t know me, exactly, but I feel I should be thanking you.” You take his hand, a slight electrical buzz suddenly playing at the tips of your fingers. Who the hell is this guy and why is he – “I’m Jeb. As in, Jeb Guthrie. Thanks for getting word to me about my brother. You’re a good guy.”
>>
>(2/2)

“Oh, right…” You feel the compliment like a heady, warm glow in the back of your skull. That’s pretty new. “…It, uh, it was nothing. Nice to meet you.”

Stuffing your hands in your pockets (human contact, you’ve had enough of it for now), you turn toward Hisako, and then the ‘vampire’.

“How’s this thing going?” You were kinda worried that they’d do… something… to her, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Hisako sighs, folding her arms.

“She’s staying here for now.” She glances over at the girl. “We have a reputation for being helpful. Hopefully some of that can rub off on her, and people will forget all that’s happened. That aside…”

She turns her eyes toward Lucas, and then back to you. You notice that the younger boy doesn’t seem all too enthused with any of this.

“…Your friend here has made some pretty incredible claims. Is he telling the truth?”

“It’s true.” You confirm. “I don’t have proof, but I will.”

Hisako examines you closely, narrowing her eyes at you. You don’t get the impression that this is a very trusting person you’re looking at here. Which is fine enough, you suppose – homelessness doesn’t teach you to be trusting. Meeting her gaze, you refuse to look away, and a strange, silent exchange ensues, neither one of your particularly willing to budge from a position of quiet stoicism.

Eventually, she relents, sighing wearily. Warily, too. Her whole rhythm is guarded. You get the impression this girl never drops her defences, not even for a second.

“Alright.”

“You believe us?” You ask, sounding a little surprised yourself.

“I believe it’s plausible.” She states, curtly. “Of course, this isn’t the first grand claim you’ve made. First you save everyone at the docks, then you bring this great truth to us. Maybe you’ll turn water into wine next? Or feed us all with a single loaf?”

You frown. Hard.

“You’re either telling the truth or you’re a deeply manipulative person.” She continues, matching your frown with one of her own. “But, either way, it can’t do much harm for everyone to meet on these grounds. It had to happen eventually.”

Rising to her feet, she balls her fists, the light twisting unnaturally about her, as though through a pall of tinted glass.

“We’ll meet with Julian’s people. And the Corsairs, too, if Jono agrees to it.”

Yeah… those guys.

Governmental suggestion:

These three make a council, and act as the ruling body. They can each act as judge, jury, and executioner in their own territory (lines of which will have to be drawn and agreed upon, something we can also help with) but for matters regarding the entirety of the scar, it'll have to be a joint meeting on agreed-upon neutral ground.

JJ's roll in this will be as peacekeeper. He'll be allowed to voice his opinion and act as advisor, but he won't be allowed to vote. Instead, if anyone violates the peace of the Scar by attacking another group, or breaches the peace of the council's neutral ground, or outright refuses to abide by any agreements the council makes for the betterment of the scar, we will step in and eliminate the current leader of that faction.

We have a skillset that makes us an adept and damnably lethal assassin.

Additionally, it will be our responsibility to investigate matters if the council deems it necessary, in which case members of each group will be required to cooperate.

The hard point is that we have to abide by the council's decisions, even if we don't like them. Even if we think it's idiocy, and will get everyone killed.

Should one group attack another, the third group will come to the defender's aid, as shall we, making it a war on two fronts with an easily Class 4 mutant knowing them inside and out. This is to ensure any open conflicts are resolved as quickly and quietly as possible, without the need for Mutant Control to get involved.

GENETIC MIMICRY
JJ may consume the genetic material of others to take on aspects of their appearance, and even mannerisms.
Level 1: After consuming a small amount of blood, saliva, or another genetic sample of a being, JJ may temporarily take on some of their minor aesthetic traits. He cannot become them, but he can take on their hair colour and type/ethnicity/eye colour/etc.
Level 2: JJ may now shift fully into an exact copy of a human being whose DNA he has recently sampled. This change only lasts for a matter of minutes.
Level 3: JJ may now maintain the change for an hour.
Level 4: JJ now only needs an at least somewhat extended amount of physical contact with a target to take on their shape. Additionally, he can access a few of their mannerisms.
Level 5: By consuming a significant portion of a person’s brain, JJ may permanently ‘store’ their genetic code and take their shape at any time.

http://pastebin.com/JYrcDPPk

The last level REQUIRES brain consumption to get the fullest bang for our buck. Now, I'll agree we may never get there, but some people don't want the power because we wouldn't be able to fully utilize it

>>33413012
Are you fucking retarded? Did you read literally anything in that post you're quoting?

Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you are REQUIRED to do that thing. We can buy a power without upgrading it to level 5

We bought Electrostatic touch on thread 5. We have gone literally 75 threads and it is still at level 1. Buying level 1 does not REQUIRE you to buy level 5.
>>
>>33412850
I wasn't there for the power vote for adhesive touch, but honestly it's been pretty useful and at later levels it's full blown tactile-kinesis, which could be useful in carry important people or items, carry several people at one time, etc.
>>
>>33413109
Okay, did you read my phrasing? I said 'to get the fullest bang for our buck', the colloquism meaning to use it to its FULLEST as in to use the last ability listed, it requires brain consumption. Yes, requires.

No, we don't have to do it, but there is a requisite if we want to you fucking sperg
>>
>>33413157
So when do you plan on bringing Adhesive touch to level 5? Obviously we need to get it to level 5 since we have that power.
>>
I was hoping Rogue would join us in the Tunnel Snakes
>>
>>33413252
I'd like to yeah, it's full on tactile kinesis at max which is really fucking useful.

It's the shit Superman has so that when he lifts heavy shit, that heavy object doesn't fall apart because it's not being supported structurally in other areas.
>>
>>33413252
>>33413299
It also lets you walk on water for a little while, which would probably be useful in shaking people

>>
>>33413341
She'd have been really useful in extracting info from Creeper goons.
>>
>>33413091
I think there a matching pair so there's no real differece between them and the bead just symbolizes a relationship of that type like a wedding ring and such.
>>
>>33413387
After sticking with the Young X-men, I think. Marrow's probably going to be an arse because she wanted to show how alpha she wasn't, so it's best for Anne to stay with them for a bit.

it just would have been funny if we had the wife bead
>>
>>33413320
>>33413341
It will take 95 x-points to max everything.

So on thread 151 we will have Adhesive touch level 5. Which will be pretty cool. On thread 171 when we buy Genetic mimicry level 5 yes we might have the option to eat someone brain.

That's assuming we don't buy a single extrapolative.
>>
>>33413476
new powers would be available by then anon
>>
>>33413476
Sure, if we get Genetic Mimicry, and people don't find Animal Affinity more useful because there's more extrapolatives to support it

111 x-points.

Wanna know something real fucking funny?

Thread #17(when we got Adhesive Touch) was probably the strongest point for the phasing campaign, we had all the cool bits covered and where looking into utilities. Shortly after(I think after vanishing the demon, thread 20) we got our powerset locked - no new powers-. We got one x point the thread before, but it was so late we couldn't hold a vote before the thread disappeared.

Thread #17 also saw a change in the voting format. Old format would allow you to quote back to CJ and still count your vote.

There were 23 total votes in thread #17. Only 7 of those votes where in the new format, so our final primary power was decided by those seven votes.

Out of all 23 votes, 8 total went to phasing and banking. 6 of them were in the old format, while only 2 where in the new and valid format.

7 votes total went for phasing, 4 in the old format and 3 in the new format. So, despite having 2 fewer old style votes and 1 vote less overall than the two other options, thanks to adopting a new format(and CJ being tired as shit and not wanting to make a second vote to decide between banking and phasing), Adhesive touch won.

>>33415030

Sperging aside. These fags>>33413476 >>33413595 did a pretty good job of demonstrating that we're not going to be getting out utility power to high levels any time soon. No matter what that power is.

We can't really get birds to go out of their way to help us until level 3. (6 points) So the whole "animal arm" argument is irreverent.

>>33415155
Strength 3 is definitely not enough to kill a Sentinel. Claws 2 will allow us to cut through their armor.
>>
>>33415280
well, if we sink enough points into it, we can effectively mind control animals
>>
>>33415280
From the pastebin

ANIMAL AFFINITY
JJ develops the ability to communicate with and command fauna.
Level 1: JJ may understand the basic gist of what an animal is conveying. He may suggest actions but not compel them.
Level 2: JJ may entirely understand ‘animal-speak’. Smaller land bound animals almost automatically trust him and are more suggestible.
Level 3: JJ may sense nearby wildlife. Airborne animals and large land bound animals almost automatically trust him and are more suggestible. JJ may emit a loud noise that acts as a ‘beacon’ to chosen creatures.

JJ: "Go throw yourself at it to buy me some time."
Bird: "Fuck you."

Actually, if we took another level or two of adhesive touch we could probably fire it from our shoulder without bracing it or losing our footing. Add telescopic vision so we don't have to readjust the scope constantly and we could be mobile and able to set up invisibly on any building by wall running.

We have enhanced Strength 3 and Agility 3 as well as perfect ricochet. We can basically throw redirecting bullets (well, steel musket balls) right now and those will scale as we increase agility. Hell, if we ever get that repulsion power the damn things will gain momentum with every bounce until they impact with soft tissue.
>>
>>33416032
Nigga throwing requires a lot more arm motion than is efficient and stealthy

>>33415917
>Creeper's been buying Jack from the Facility right?
That's not what's been happening at all. The hell are you smoking?

True, on the other hand we're basically at the point where we can kill mooks and civilians with thrown quarters, so there's that.
>>
>>33416239
Yes but then their commander shows up and rips our arm off when we raise it up to throw
>>
>>33416265
If we're close enough to them (and accessibly instead of being adhered to a wall or ceiling) for the commander to spot the point of sudden deadly pocket change materialization (leaving our invisi-field) then we probably deserve a broken arm. That being said, everyone and their mother has decent body armor these days.
