You are Chief Gloombreaker, and your magical extra-planar castle is neighbor to a sleepy little magical cottage of smoke demons and frozen teddy bears or something. You haven't asked what that is all about. Regardless, you've recently gained a maid in the form of some noble young woman who has a gigantic axe, and now you're thinking about your next move. You were told forever ago that thinking three moves ahead is what smart commanders do, so you guess you aren't very smart since you're usually thinking about the move you're currently making as you make it. The phrase Blaise used was 'impulsive brat' and then Milda said that it took one to know one. Maybe that is why you think you can get along with her!

Oh, right! There was also a clown recruit. You don't know much about them. Still, the boys enjoyed a nice time at the circus so they won't get restless for a bit. It is definitely good to keep them busy, though!

What's the plan, boss?

Blaise is moving somewhat uncomfortably in her uniform as you sit at a table in your extra-dimensional castle, eating donuts and drinking some sort of bittersweet brown liquid. When asked about it, you were told it was a 'dark roast' but you're pretty sure it doesn't taste anything like a pig. You called your new maid over in order to interrogate her about Manderlay's capital!

"Hey," You say, sipping a bit. This stuff makes your hair stand, "We're gonna get Manderlay's capital pretty soon so tell me how to get in there and take it over really fast so me and none of the boys die 'cause I wouldn't want that to happen to any of us, really, including you since you're one of the boys now as far as I'm concerned so really it is in your own best interest to tell me." Your mouth just spills out the thoughts that come to your head as soon as they arrive.

Blaise quirks an eyebrow, places a hand on your arm and sniffs your drink. "First of all, why would you think they'd tell a noble girl anything about critical defenses? Second of all, I don't know if you should be drinking that."

shrugging, you take another swig to wash down the donuts. "I'm drinkin' it cause it tastes nice with these donut things, which are great. And I dunno. Maybe you know a shortcut in or something? I really don't wanna put the boys through a real siege or anything since those are nasty and a lot of people die and I like all my boys."

With a sigh, Blaise shakes her head, "No, I don't know any secret passages like that. Your army can't succeed, by the way." Now it is your turn to quirk an eyebrow, "They got stonewalled in Valenwood, right? Isn't that where most of your forces are? How are you supposed to overrun a larger army at a city designed to withstand a siege?"

'Cause you'd have a huge army of summoned demons. But maybe you shouldn't tell Blaise that?

>Tell Blaise what the dragon lady is going to do to overrun Manderlay.
>It ain't her business. Press harder on what she knows about the capital.

"Well, whether I'm there or not..." You look out the window towards the ocean. "Manderlay is probably gonna blow up." You take another drink. This must be what is referred to as a 'mature flavor'

"Eeehhhh?" Blaise's surprise is evident, "Are you sure? You're the only reason the stalemate in Valenwood broke, and you told me the army around here isn't impressive! Surely you can't suggest these ingrates can take out the noble stronghold of Manderlay!"

Shaking your head, you continue, "These guys? Nah, not them. There is a dragon lady back underground. She's got some sorta demon prince boyfriend, and the two of them are gonna raise up an army of devils to loot the place."

"That's awful, you've got to stop them!" Blaise pumps a fist in the air, but you look at her like she's crazy.

"What? Me, stop them? How am I supposedta do that? She's a freakin' dragon! I can't beat one of those! Also she has, like, a amillion demons she is trying to raise. Besides, why would I want to stop her?"

The maid crosses her arms and looks at you with an unimpressed look, "I think you're selling yourself short. In addition, I think you could probably be a pretty good ally to Manderlay, if you tried! Fight off the underworld armies, and I'm sure you could work out a land grant with the king! Then you just act as a buffer state between Manderlay and the underworld, and you're set for life!"

"You're crazy! None of the boys would want to live above ground and there is no way I could hold off the underground army by myself!"

The argument escalates from there. She has a few good points, though. But you still think it is suicide. She storms off in a huff before you could get any info on Manderlay's defenses, though.

>Go apologize for blowin' up. See what she has in mind about starting up a buffer state.

That conversation with Blaise reminded you that you don't really know how all this godvessel stuff works. Might be handy to find out before you think about the dragon lady and her husband any more! You finish off your coffee and donuts, and skip out of the castle to the entrance leading to the Witch Boy house. It is still early morning when you knock on the door. You hear some stumbling around, and when the door gets pried open, a sleepy Allonces greets you. "Oh, hey, Shax. What's up?" She's wearing a loose button up t-shirt and some pajama pants. Alfonse is standing behind her. You're continually amazed at how she made a rotten troll smell nice.

"Not much, witch guy in here?"

Allonces meets you with the dead stare of the recently awoken for a moment before remembering who you're referring to, "Oh. Oh! Yeah, he should be in the back. Me sleeping around in these clothes makes him all shy to walk into his study." She gives a grin. Like a cat with a mouse, probably?

Stepping inside, you find the building to be an even larger mess than before, with more books strewn about and left open. Paper and notebooks are everywhere. You head into the back and find the witch boy hunched over a doll. "Hey! It's me, Shax!" He nearly jumps out of his skin as you loudly announce your self.

Pulling a weird visor off his face, he turns to look at you. "Oh, uh, hey Shax. What is up?"

"You got yourself a vessel, yet? I need to know more about those things. Such as: How can it make demons, how it can hold a demon prince in it, and what else it can do." You cross your arms. It is time to get down to business!

"Oh?! You're interested in this kind of stuff, Shax? You always seemed to not want to listen for one second longer whenever I went into the more technical applications of this sort of thing! Well, if you insist, then please pull up a chair!" Woah, he seems way too into it. Still, you can't back out now. Especially since you asked him to tell you. You kick off several stacks of documents and take a seat in the nearest chair to you. "Oh, I, uh, needed to have those for... nevermind. Anywhere, where to start."

You cross your arms, "Probably with the stuff I asked about."

Pushing up his glasses, witch boy shakes a finger at you, "But how could I expect you to understand that without first establishing the foundation! Allonces! Bring the charts!"

You hear Allonces from a distance, "Bring them yourself!"

"Haha, she's a handful, isn't she?" Witch boy laughs while scratching the back of his head, "Now, first to understand godvessels you have to understand the soul conversion ratio inherent in the spiritual layers of mana manipulation. This, of course, is of a different spectrum than the elemental manipulation fields that are contained-"

You're feeling pretty jittery from the 'dark roast' and this boring stuff ain't helping. Practically vibrating in your seat, you have trouble focusing on any one thing. By the end of the forever lesson that your watch tells you took three hours, because you checked it every ten seconds, you find that you learned basically nothing.

What you got out of it was this: Gods are immortal, but if you can wound one you can shove it in a god vessel. If you shove a god in a god vessel it can manifest it's realm on the physical one to some extent. You can 'program' a god vessel to alter it's host in subtle ways.

>Hit something before you hit him.
>Idly mention you have two gods ready to be shoved into a vessel.
>Ask him what it'd take to shove the Hungerer in there.
>Ask him if gods would like that sort of thing.

Fidgeting profusely, you resist the urge to cut his stupid library in half. "So, uh, would gods particularly enjoy this sort of thing? Bein' shoved into a doll and all that?"

Shaking his head, witch boy sighs, "Were you even listening? Of course they wouldn't! However, you can alter the vessel to an extent that they would never think of why it'd bother them, avoiding the problem in the long run."

Gods you don't like... well, how about the Hungerer? "So, could I, like, shove the Hungerer in there? That'd deal with him, right?"

He nods slowly, "You could, however, that beast rarely leaves his plane of existence. You'd have to be there first, wound him, cause him to flee, then have a high priest sort of guide him into the god vessel. Then after you've lured him there, you'd have to seal him inside. A deity that powerful is no joke, you know? The Hungerer rules completely over the plane of avarice." You don't know what avarice is, but you don't like it! "It'd be a nightmare to fight him on his own ground."

He starts talking about gods, and it is awful. After a while you interrupt him, "So, uh, I have two gods just sorta hanging out. Couldn't we just push one into this dumb doll and get started on your ultimate project or whatever?"

Glasses practically fogging up from excitement, the witch boy approaches you quickly, "Shax, I don't even know how you keep surprising me! That's fantastic news? Would either of them happen to be, ah, a goddess?" You nod, "Oooh, excellent that would fit perfectly. What nature is she?" You shrug. "Hmm. I see, well all of that can be found out in time. I humbly ask you to let me experiment on one!"

You don't like the sound of that. Besides, if you sit around here all day you'll go crazy. And who is to say what the boys will do to the country side out of boredom.

btw, when we used axe girls jewels they seemed ok, so we can just have Allonces go over to the elf town and drop one in an inn or something so we can get there fast later. Maybe should someone more competent with her, though.
>>
You politely excuse yourself from the weirdo's house, nearly running over Allonces on the way out the door. She's giggling and reading some book in the middle of the floor, kicking her legs. Jeez, she has made herself at home. At least she isn't bothering the help back in your castle.

After you make it back into the boy's camp, you wander around a bit saying hi to the troops. It isn't too long till you hear the sounds of music. It's gotta be Sitri! You head towards the noise, and see her and the boys have struck up an impromptu band. Sitri is on the pipes, and lending her voice to singing, some goblin is strumming away on a makeshift bass, and one of the trash can knights converted his armor into a drum set. It's a raucous affair, but there is plenty of dancing, drinking and partying to be had.

Before too long, however, a goblin notices you and you get drug into the mob of dancing goblins. It's fun to cut loose and dance a jig or two! You lose track of time, and before you know it the ad hoc concert is over. "Hey, Shax. What's up?" Sitri meets you afterwards with a mug, "You haven't been done this way in a while."

You kick your feet at a picnic table the boys set up and lean back, looking at the satyxis. "I'm getting kinda bored. You know all sorts of legends around here, right? I was wondering if you could think up something to do."

"Hmm," Sitri looks up at the sky and thinks for a moment, "There are legends of a couple hidden temples towards the mountain ranges east of here, if you're in an archaeological mood. There is also the faerie court to the south who are looking for mortal knights, stealing the emotions of those who fail their tests. The only other legend I can think of involves a full moon, and we're quite a way off from that."

What quest do you wanna persue?

Oooh, hidden temples sound fun. "What kinda hidden temples?!" You're excited! Hidden temples convokes the images of jewels, exotic statues, puzzles, traps, ancient gods, undead guardians! A lost and fascinating culture, waiting to be explored!

"Well, most of the ones that are easy to get to out there have been looted already," Disappointment covers you like a blanket, and Sitri notices your immediate downer shift, "But! I'm sure the ones not found are filled with all sorts of cool things! The society those temples were based on were said to be great artisans, who constructed servants of stone and metal. Mystical hammers, the gods born of the mountain, and stuff like that." Your mouth forms an 'o' as you make an appreciative sound, "The temples explored were filled with wandering, mindless golems! Covered in bandages! It was said that the careless and greedy explorers suffered a dire curse." You shiver, you don't like curses! "But the truly clever and brave can over come those!" Wow, it sounds super cool.
>>
But... if the easy to get to ones have been looted already, how are you supposed to find other ones? When you bring up this concern with Sitri, she winks. "I have a few ideas about that, myself. You see, I'm a cleric of the goddess of song. And cultures have all had songs at some point or another." The satyxis' face darkens, "Well, except a few." After a moment she seems to recover, "But those aren't a problem right now!" Sitri winks, goes over to her stuff and pulls out a few maps.

"I've actually been consulting with my deity about the various worker's hymns the golemsmiths used while creating their servants. They mention several locations in these hymns, and deducting the ones already found I can confidently say there are at least three more temples." She circles a few blank areas on the map. "Going by the composition of the golems, and the area's natural resources, I can confidently say they'd be located around here. The only thing remaining is, well, where you would like to start looking?"

"Alright! I dunno what bronze hair is, but jade eyes has gotta mean wealth! Let's do that one." Plus, it was the closest one according to the map.

Sitri looks at where you put your finger, "Hmmm, looks like there is a small town near there. Let's hit it up, then? I'll be coming along, of course. I'm not going to miss out on adventure." Of course Sitri would come along! But who else would you want to drag with you? You check with Allonces first.

The elf girl rolls around on the ground, "I'm feeling laaaaazy, Shax. I don't wanna go crawling around in a dusty temple fighting golems." You kick her shins.

"You better come with me! Leaving you around here would be a bad influence on the boys!" You're waving your arms at her.

"I'm not going anywhere!" Allonces sticks her tongue out at you. You fight for a few more minutes before giving up and moving on to the next member, Whoop, who agrees immediately. His crab arms are still sorta freaking you out. The boys find out you're going hunting for ancient treasure and several volunteer, before too long you weed out the ones you'd like to have along:

Rund, incredibly paranoid, feels safer with you than at camp, so he comes along. Nost has been pretty unhappy with the amount of action he has been getting, so joins up in hopes of a fight, and Xab seems to brighten up when you mention Barilitine's name, and his whole cult tags along. You've got a decent sized crew with you! Getting on your dinosaur, you go to leave when you feel like you're forgetting something.

For some reason you feel like your subconscious would riot if you left Blaise at camp, so you order her to come with you as you hunt the temples! Now how do you want search for it?

>Go to the human town first, ask around for clues, get some supplies.

It doesn't take long for you to arrive at the town, astride your dinosaur. The town guards sorta stare as you ride in on the feathered, crab armed monstrosity. Hopping off the back of it, you approach one of the gaurds. "Hey, me and my friends here gotta ask some questions."

"Who. What?" The guard is a bit baffled. Blaise hops down, in her maid uniform and wielding her giant axe.

She curtsies at the man. "Hello, I'm the youngest daughter of the Vapulatin house. I have some inquiries to make with my friends here," She gestures at you and the rabble arriving slowly behind the dinosaur. "It is of a very urgent nature."

"What is happening?" The guard stares as kobolds begin milling about him and his associates, and Xab wanders up, waving his arms and proclaiming the whole town to be filled with blind fools.

"Oh ho ho ho!" Covering her mouth with the back of her hand, Blaise gives the guard a pitying look. "Surely you've heard of the eccentrices adventurers have? What else could explain a noblewoman dressed as a maid riding into town on a dinosaur with a coterie of goblins and kobolds?" She leans forward, patting the handle of her axe, "They're harmless, I assure you."

Nervously, the guard permits you entrance. Huh, that worked? Sitri waltzes in and isn't spared a second glance, "Good job, kiddo." She pats Blaise on the back, but pretty low for a back pat. Kind of a weird spot to pat a girl!

It doesn't take long to find out everything they know, and it gives you a pretty good idea of where to hunt for the temple, though it hasn't been found by the natives yet! Most local people treat the temple as a cursed place, and advise you to not go there. Like that's gonna stop you.

I kind of think Blaise is on the right track but it was a mistake to assume Shax would be interested in a buffer state. Or really anything that would require settling down and settling for less.

As you left town, you insisted on riding in the front on your dinosaur. Sitri tells you that you're heading the wrong way several times, and you end up switching with Blaise. The dinosaur seems to like her, so you're forced to sit behind her as the giant feathered lizard trundles around the country side.

Apparently one or two vagrants have started following Xab, because you see two raggedy men in his group of kobolds, and they keep good pace with the rest of the party as Sitri desperately tries to herd cats in the right direction. Apparently, Sitri and Rund found several unusual tracks in the area belonging to vaguely humanoid inhabitants. The tracks seemed recent, and heading directly away from your party. Still, whoever they were, they were keeping their distance. You tell Sitri to not worry about it, and to just get everyone to the temple already.

A few more hours pass, and Blaise starts up chatting again. She's still on that crazy 'help Manderlay out' plan, but she is less pushy about it. Girl has an agenda, and you can respect that. But it is bad manners to bring it up in front of the boys, and you tell her that.

Suddenly, you arrive in a narrow valley in the hills. It looks like a regular old boring place, but Sitri quickly finds an entrance. A few feet into the cave you find an artifical structure. This must be the entrance to the temple! A pretty hard to find place. The door appears sealed, but you've long since stopped caring what doors are supposed to do, and cut it down.

It's time to explore the temple of Barilitine!

I was updating slow, I had to delay a bit, and I had to slog through some exposition at the start of the thread to get the rest of the plot set up, so I felt like I should run an extra two hours! >I'm not good enough at writing to write a book, I feel.
I'd honestly say, out of all the QM's I've followed on /tg/, you're the QM with the best grasp on Voice.

I might rank some other QM's higher than you in other categories but your prose has the most personality and energy to it and that's a really marketable thing.
>>
>>33409020
Nonsense!
Just look at the magic you've sowed in these threads. Sure, you had some outside imput, but those were mostly from choices you gave us. If you don't feel you can do it comletely solo, find a cowriter, or just get some friends to consult with.

Hell, roll some dice for effect as you write. God knows the critical failures in this quest have been some of the most entertaining moments.
>>
>>33409020
Yeah but how many writers who write books aren't good enough at writing to write books? It is a bunch of them.
>>

it takes a long time to write them and I don't want to wait that long
>>
>>33409401
But if we don't get him to start now then you'll have to wait longer!

Also, I was mostly taking offense at him not thinking he was good enough to write one, not that he wasn't going to write one.

I'm not going to call him amazing or anything, but by virtue of a strong Voice alone he's much more likely to succeed compared to any other amateur author. Strong personality is a very, very marketable quality.
>>
>>33409457

Oh, I didn't mean to offend you.

I really don't know what I'd write, to be honest. I mostly enjoy Quests because of the improvisational feel to them. There isn't really a type or writing similar to this. QMing has a lot of interesting aspects to it beyond that of writing.

I am, however, flattered that you think so highly of me!
