You are Risa Schrodinger and you are currently looking over three pairs of torn up and damaged outfits. You frown as you look over the three outfits, lifting each hastily torn shirt and placing it against you while looking in the mirror. You rather like the TaRDiS, and for your first day of class. You pause and look up concerned. “Wait, first day of class? I thought I already graduated Uni.” You say.

Wait, hold on. It happened like twenty minutes ago, remember? With the Fin incident? “Monologue, I think you vastly underestimate how much I need those little ‘last time you did this’ thing you do. My attention span is terribly short without everyone clamoring around in my brain. You lot are my rock.” You explain looking over the outfits and picking up a red one with an image of a strawberry covered in barbed wire.

Thanks? Anyway, last time you got a lead on a god and went to off the dude. He turned out to not really want to fight and since Hiroshi was there you decided not to offend his delicate sensibilities by killing and eating the dude. You did learn, however, that the university nearby seems to have demons possessing people on campus. You also got more lore from Caede who has been just full of fascinating information lately.

After that you came back and found Shiba drinking because of something Sin-Fin did then you cleared that up and came in here to change and find school supplies. Oh! Hey! We should bring Jager. We could be the popular girl on campus and her our sort of nerdy friend and people are all ‘Oh why are they friends?’ but then Jager takes off her glasses and she is just like ‘Dayum’ but still with that cute personality and then werewolves. “I’ll think about it. What do you think of this top?” You wonder.

You don’t wear red often. Say, if you weren’t getting your clothed picked out for class then why were you getting changed. “Going to fight the boss cat.” You explain. You’ll never win.

You agree that is a distinct possibility and decide to instead look for clothes for University. You look over your outfits and realize you may need backup on this one. Or not, I’m not your bloody keeper.

It is currently night. Are you and other people going to jump in as “new students”?

Caede the Knowledge Font for sure.

I really don't want this to be a massive group thing. Maybe One or two other people, and I'd really rather leave Hiroshi and Jager at home this time.

Small group. Caede, certainly. She's the resident demon expert, we may need her expertise.
Maybe Jager, or Ryoko. Not both. Personally, leaning towards Jager.
Definetely not Hiroshi, Shiba or Sin-Fin.

Caede. And before we leave, we get her to help us perfect faking making out juice feel like one of those really posessable humans. It's not like we need to show up with that, but it would be useful to know for drawing out the demon. We should remember Raven girl, so we just need Caede to check it.

Cool my idea was that since the Valkyrie guide the spirits of the norse warrior dead to the afterlife, kinda like the nofugnami did for the Soul King, they'd have pretty similar abilities. And by kinda similar I mean, "The Soul King was lazy and basically copied them, made them male and female, and mucked about with them to fit his designs." Because the Soul King is always lazy.

“Why of course I am going to bring people with me. The more the merrier in fact.” You explain looking over your outfit. “We need Caede because she is the one who knows the most about demony stuff. We also should probably bring Ryoko. She is also my rock.”

Right. Who else? “Maybe Jager? I have this sort of idea about her being the shy girl on campus and we are all ‘Pew! Look at the Jager abs!’ Will be sort of all the ace.” You explain.

You go into the shrine and to seek out she of the most adorable ticklish person in the whole of reality. You find her sitting with Deboorah watching a movie. You land in front of the screen and put your hands on your hips due to what is likely a need for attention. Caede pauses the film and you point at her. “Caede! Thomas! Tomorrow morning we are going to an institute of higher learning! The university where the professor guy game from and where the demons live.” You explain.

“What are we going there as?” Caede asks.

“I shall pretend to be a student. While the rest of you lot will be students on a university tour. I can be the tour guide for my extra credit.” You say. “Because my TA hated my time travel dissertation and I need the credits to graduate. Because they slacked they expect me to slack.”

Caede squints. “Are you actually making a back story or just having a mental breakdown?”

You grab Caede’s shoulders and shake her. “I won’t compromise my mathematical beliefs on the structure of time and space just because some daft bastard wanted to draw squares and circles on his bloody notebook and say it was his thesis.” Not bitter at all are you.

“Right, make sure you got a lunch and are wearing your best outfits.” You command turning and sonidoing out of the room.

You go to Ryoko’s place and tap on her window. She turns her light on and opens the curtains wrapped in a blanket. “Sensei, hey like, what are you doing here?” She wonders.

“Just wanted to tell you we are going on a demon hunt. You know, with scary monsters, discovering yourself, and all that jazz. We are going to the university and you will be pretending to be a incoming student or something touring the facilities.” You explain.

“Oh, okay sure. Hey, do you want to come in and, like, hang out? My grandma is away for a meeting and won’t be back for a few days.” Ryoko wonders.

“You must sleep! Do you want to compromise your first day of higher education? Be totally overwhelmed by the syllabus and then drop out and end up in a dead end job being a ghost?” You wonder.

Ryoko gives you a strained smile as you turn to face the city and…

“Poor Ryoko.” You say leaping into the night. “She is going to break one of these days and there isn’t a bloody thing we can do about it.”

The bloody hell you on about then? It would be so simple to not break her. Just go back and spend some quality time making her feel- “No! There is nothing we can do to save her! She is on the path of no return! It is a fact of time now!” You interrupt as you climb up the hill to your shrine.

But-But it would be so easy. Just go over there and lay your head in her lap or something and make her feel like- “Nope, sorry. Can’t do it. Ryoko is going to go insane, snap, and kill me one day and there isn’t anything I can do to stop it.” You explain filling your bag with doctor who school supplies you made yourself.

But- “The choice has been made monologue.” You say hopping into your bed and throwing the blankets over your head.

You wake up to a bright sunny day, likely a side effect of Shiba being happy, and step outside to the bright morning air. Ryoko is waiting for you in an outfit which you think she is wearing to look more mature. Her hair, normally is some stylish bunned-up side ponytail is down straight now and she smiles when she sees you. “Sensei! Good morning!”

“Morning Ryoko. Where are Caede and Henrietta?” You wonder.

“They should be here soon. You look really cool sensei.” Ryoko smiles.

Ryoko spends her time trying to compliment you but you simply tap your foot impatiently. Finally Caede and John come out of the building and you Sonido to the university. You again have to wait as Ryoko’s outfit isn’t made for high speed movements and then you turn to the large university. “Japan University.” Not this places name. “My ancient foe.” You just met.

“So where do you think we should start first sensei?” Ryoko asks trying to psych herself up again.

Good questions. Where do you go?

You lead your group through the campus to find the history department and feel your skin crawl as get further and further from your math and sciences department. You lean against a wall to catch your breath as the people around you in their classes talk about stuff that happened, dates, significant events, and probably more stuff that happened.

Ryoko looks over at you and leans down. “Are you okay? What’s wrong?”

You push yourself back up and nod. “Yeah, sorry about that love. The foul winds of history and I don’t get along. I had a real major.” You point at a studying student. “Get a real major which will ensure you have a fine job!”

The student blinks and looks up at you. He adjusts his glasses and seems to think about what you said. “After I graduate I have a job lined up in the upper ranks of a major corporation.” He replies.

You hold your threatening pose for a moment then slam your fist into the table angrily. “Why?”

“Would you mind moving? You are in my light. I have to finish studying for my mythologies test.” He says looking back at his book

“This test, would it happen to be with that professor who goes around looking at creepy ancient Japanese shrines?” You ask.

“That’s the one.” The student replies.

“Where is he?” You ask.

“Probably teaching or with that club he is in charge of. He has this group of students who he sponsors and takes them with him to different shrines around Japan.” He answers.

“They could all be demons.” Ryoko mutters looking around.

“Possible. A few of them enjoy walking around in groups.” Caede explains looking around as well.

You look around and panic. You rush into the university trying to find the trail of your plant and trying to find what dastardly thing which has taken your plant. You nearly charge up your body until you hear a girl let out a shriek of delight. “Kya! You’re so cute.”

You look at the commotion and see a group of people surrounding Masami. You narrow your gaze and calmly walk over to where everyone is making a fuss and see several women have started trying to feed him.

“Here, are you hungry? Where did you come from?” The woman holding your plant on her lap asks.

You resist the urge to slaughter everyone for touching your plant and grind your teeth as she reaches into her bag. She pulls out a newspaper clipping of the professor and shyly holds it up to her face a pleading look in her eyes. The students all look at what she has and the girl holding her speaks up. “Oh, you are looking for Professor [BADGUY MCEVIL PERSON]” Ms. Should keep her hands off your bloody plant says making you glance up as your monologue fills in the names with more fitting titles.

“Are you looking for him? Hey Taka you are in his club right?” The corpse who hasn’t realized her own mortality asks.

A guy, Taka, nods. “I already said don’t call me that! Yeah, I’m in his club. I don’t remember him having any kids though.” Taka explains.

“Hey, it’s fine right? She’s cute anyway.” Ms. Meatsuit explains.

“Are you sure it’s a girl? A little flat for that isn’t she?” A guy with a weak goatee asks making your plant blush and hide his face.

“Hey, look you embarrassed her. It’s fine Taka will take us.” Ms. Better not walk down any dark alleys at night explains.

“Us?” Taka asks.

“Hey, I can’t just leave someone this cutie on their own.” Ms. I am going to give Risa PTSD.

Taka grumbles and holds out his hand and your plant takes it shyly and gets lead on. You narrow your gaze and decide you can’t stand this anymore. You take aim at the back of the woman’s head and fire a bala. You smile as it streaks through the air but the woman ducks. You look confused and see your plant as pulled her down to look at a flower. Ms. Dodge your balas but not in a lewd way smiles happily and you are about to fire again when your plant stares at you.

He doesn’t get angry, just a warm calm peaceful smile. You stare back with your arm raised and feel daggers of guilt stab into the hole where your heart is. You grumble and lower your arm as your plant gets back on her way.

“Hey Caede, is that guy a demon?” You wonder clinging to Ryoko and making her stumble a little.

“If he is being possessed it is hard to tell unless they want me to. I should also point out that I am not possessing someone.” Caede explains as Ryoko heats up.

“So? You don’t need to possess anyone because you are adorable enough as is.” You explain.

“I’m not adorable!” Casede protests then regains her composure. “What I mean is if any demon sees me they will know I am not human. Ryoko I don’t think they will notice unless they try to jump in her or she zerks out, and you and [Plant] are both cloaked so you should be fine. Some demons are pretty territorial too, so if they see me and think I am stepping on their toes then they might get really pissed.”

“Huh, so we might be able to use you to draw out a demon? Will you recognize them if they use demon magic?” You ask gently petting Ryoko as you get comforted.

“Maybe. Keep in mind some humans can cast demon magic too.” Caede explains.

Hm, something to consider you suppose. You follow the plant to the department and Taka opens the door. A strange sort of demony scent washes over you and Caede narrows her eyes. “That’s funny.” She notes walking in after them.

You peek in and see an old man with grey hair and a beard. Several students are in the room and you see they are all reading weird looking books. “Well now. What’s this? Takashi you brought guests. Good to see you as always Keiko.”

The girl pushes your plant forward and the man smiles at the plant “And who might you be young lady?”

Your plant looks adorable and holds out the newspaper clipping that said he went missing. “Ah! Yes, that was quite scary. No, Lucy's a total bro besides the whole lightbringer thing.

>Lucifer: Thinks fondly of you. Want to team up.
>>
We could go and eat another Great Old One.

Even they have to have scrubs...right?
>>
>>33365020
Hah, I thought of that guy back when Risa was still being described as a "Demon Cat-Fox with Purple Hair".

Majora's Mask had a nice theme of madness and Armageddon that sorta fits HQR
>>
>>33365470
While it was never finalized, the plan seems to be that we aren't going to settle for being Lucys' equal. We don't' want to have to negotiate or barely scrap by in the final fight.

We want it all to end on our terms.

After Gabe gets turned down things are going to kick up a notch. Not greatly, but things will most likely accelerate a bit. By powering up now it insures we can capitalize on this while leaving some breathing space.
>>
>>33365609
Remember squad 0? Those are the closest things to Old One scrubs around.
>>
>>33365579
Wonder if someone would crunch some numbers and see how we have grown since then.
Might volunteer if no one else does. Tomorrow I have no plans and just want to stay home anyway.
>>
>>33365634
And we aren't luring them out because...?
>>
>>33365654
Because we might not be able to take them. They are stuck doing fuck nothing anyway, just leave them until we are more confident in our power.
>>
>>33365693
We eat squad 0, we can go and start eating the Old One's corpse. If there's enough juice to twist Shinigami like that, there's gotta be something we can use.
>>

We don't have a solid date from lucy do we? We got a quote of nearly 2 months, and that was about a week ago if I remember correctly.
I like it that way actually, would hate it if we had a true countdown.

You consider your options and stroke Ryoko’s hair as if it were a beard. You could storm the place, and kick everyone in the face until they made funny sounds. You feel Ryoko shiver under your fingers and wonder just what it is you should do. You hear your plant make some plant sounds in the room as you wonder. Your plant eventually comes out and you hear Keiko and Taka talking happily in the room about stuff. You decide that charging in would be a bad move and go back to the campus main.

“Why are you waiting?” Caede asks.

“Because this is strange and I don’t like strange.” Actually you do, just not strange you aren’t a part of. “Caede, what sort of demons are good at possessing people? What aspect of sin are they?”

Caede crosses her arms and thinks on it. She tilts her head and makes hmm sounds before finally nodding. “Envy I guess. Envy demons tend to have a lot of interaction with the human world and are the ones most often responsible for possessing people. Why?” She wonders.

So you can’t just tell Snazzy on them. “Just trying to put the pieces together.” You explain as you smell Keiko and Taka leave and split up. Keiko goes into the science building while Taka goes into the History hall for his lecture.

“Right, first things first then. I think I am going to try and…”

I'm saying we wait more until we attack them again. Didn't you read the last few threads, where they forced us into a retreat?

That's because we were dumb enough to fight them all at once.

They group up and all come soon as one gets killed though, that's why we fought them all in the first place. We killed Mr. Over 100 dark magics and the rest wanted to rain on our parade. Also they all Bankai'd up at the end of the fight as we were evacing

>>

They might figure it out after a bit, but we can at least get one or two through.

As for them calling reinforcements, when they get cautious we can just pull a Scorpion and YANK them through as they study the doorway.
>>
>>33366217
We would have to use our Laughing garganta or risk letting them remember to open their own portals. Ryoko would not work.

Our portal is a one way trip that takes time and you can't see through to the other end. We would not be able to pull them through. If we just made a portal and sat around waiting for someone to come through, they would never find the portal or they would all come at once and kill us. We are not going to get one or two. And we can'y tank them through and pick them off, we would need to know exactly when and where they are and then hope they don't see us coming. Which they will.
Stop thinking in videogame logic. Anime logic is fine though.

You look after the two split ground and decide to go after Keiko. She is prettier and this has nothing to do with how you feel about the history department and the crushing reality of life after college. Totally and completely legit. “Alright. I will see what I can find out about Keiko about that professor guy.”

Your plant’s pink hair is pink in a way you are pretty sure means “And that’s all, right?”

You sulk down and put the fun snaps you pulled out of your inventory back in your pants. “Yes, and just that.”

“I will try and get a look at the books they have in there. Maybe I will be able to recognize something.” Caede says standing up.

“I will see what I can find out about, like, that club of theirs. See when they started and if they do anything strange.” Ryoko explains.

Your plant knows what it must do and your group breaks. You follow Keiko to the math section then into a classroom full of equations and diagrams about waves, physics, and stars. You take a seat next to her and look over her shoulder as she scratches her head over some notes in looped girlish handwriting. You feel bad for her and point out one of the things she wrote down. “That’s wrong.” You explain.

“Huh?” Keiko asks looking at you as you sit there bored.

“I said that’s wrong. It looks like you used the wrong form of specific heat for your equation.” You continue.

She looks down at her notes then back to you as the teacher comes in. He starts rambling on about something related to stars and you amuse yourself by finishing his sentences before he can and giggling like a madwoman. You do it quietly so as to not disturb his lecture, but it takes your mind off the fact you have no idea how to interact with kids today.

Should you seduce her? That would probably be easiest but what do kids say today to get their seduction on? Do they even crash their sports car into walls at 200 anymore? Maybe you should start with cake, yeah cake. Fuck it, just use lasers. You charge your arm as the lecture ends and turn to Keiko ready to laser your problems away. However Keiko is on the ground and has her head against the floor. “Please teach me to math!”

You tilt your head confused. “What now?”

“Please teach me math! I had to take most of the first semester off and I am so behind I have no way of catching up! Please!” She asks.

Thank you childish belief we could invent time travel if we went to college place.

You follow Keiko to the lounge area as she chats your ear off. “Ha ha, sorry about that. It just felt like my life was closing in on me.” She explains.

“Why not just drop and take next semester?” You wonder. That only works for you Peter Pan.

“Well I thought I had it. Then suddenly the difficulty of the class went up after the last day to drop and I had no idea what to do.” She sighs looking down at her feet.

Some people do that, yeah. “Okay, time to cram.” She says looking over her papers.

You could probably ask her something because you so totally have an in.

“So why did you have to take time off? Seems a bit silly to do right at the start of the semester.” You say.

“My sister has been really sick since she was little. She had a pretty bad episode and was in the hospital for a while. The doctors said she should have died. My parents do what they can but I really want to get out into the working world to ease the burden on them. Still they said I had to finish college so here I am.” She explains.

“So your sister turn out okay?” You ask wondering if you should nom her.

“Yeah. Actually.” She narrows her gaze. “My sister’s pretty much in perfect health now.”

“Well, that’s a relief.” You reply.

“Yeah it was pretty strange but miracles happen I guess.” She says spinning her pencil.

You go over her work and pretty much teach her far better than anyone else ever in the universe of forever because you are the best at teaching. She gives you her number and runs off to her other class. You go back to the eating place and find people making a fuss over your plant again. You pull your plant away from the mass of people and get your group back together.

Caede sighs as you sit down. “Well I am pretty sure the books were on magic. But the thing is with the names and summoning rituals they are making they could easily over run the town. I have no idea why they seem to be holding back. There is probably something more going on here. Something much bigger. I don’t really know if we should get too involved.” Caede explains.

Ryoko sips her drink. “The group was hand selected from the Professor’s classes. Looks like the only way in is by being good at history and myths.” She says.

Your plant smiles and is suitably adorable.

Well that ain't suspicious at all. I wonder if one of the demons healed her sister in exchange for her help or if one of them possessed her sister and that healed her or some other thing.

Anyway... I want to go for the demons, but Caede is kinda psyching me out here. I mean, she is the resident lore dump / demon expert.

>Looks like the only way in is by being good at history and myths.
Guess we're fucked then aren't we.

It looks like they are setting up for some kind of takeover or invasion. The professor and company are not that strong since they were thrown off by a crippled corn god. It seems like they are hunting down gods and items though judging from what we have seen. Prehaps we can break in and take whatever they have collected? Or do they eat things like us?
Either way, there were beaten by a corn god. We strike after we get more information. If they did not kill or eat what they have collected so far we can use them.

Did you miss the last several times where Azure straight up said that most of our advantage in fights has come from jumping the target and catching them mostly unaware? What his schtick is, and if he's more useful alive or not.

So since nobody else noticed this, I may as well go ahead and tell y'all what's what.

Corn god is lying to you about who he is. He's no a Japanese deity and that name he gave was probably false. Corn isn't native to Japan. It wouldn't be the main crop in the realm of an ancient Shinto god. The fact that his field didn't have any rice or clover was also a big hint.

He's going to do something eventually.

You decide to do more investigating. You split up again and sniff around the campus smelling nothing particularly interesting. You go check out the history department and find absolutely nothing relating to the Japanese artifacts and shrines, so whatever it is they are doing has nothing to do with that.

You ask around the campus about what the club and professor usually do but just get the regular spiel about how they work on investigating old shrines and work hard on examining the historical significance of cultural heritage sites.

Recently they have gotten into collecting old books which the Professor keeps locked away in his office which he keeps locked if no one is in. You ask about his favorite colour and learn it is Teal. That sick son of a bitch. You look over all your notes in your notepad and meet back up with your group in the middle of campus in the near evening. “Okay, so here’s what we know.” You start.

“Why are we investigating?” Caede wonders.

“Well, we need to see if he is useful alive or something.” You explain.

“He’s a demon. You ask me if there are demons with powers you need and- What? Why?” Caede wonders.

Before you can answers a massive burning circle forms around your group. An inferno of blistering sulfurous flame envelops your group and you let out a shriek of pain as demonically cast hellfire tears through your soul parts.

You look up and see the professor, his eyes black with glowing green irises close a book and a massive lance of hell born flame tears through your group.

>>33368015

>>33368061
...what information are we in need of, exactly? It's pretty clear that they've been summoning demons, and that it's had some consequences, unfortunate, unexpected or otherwise.
Membership requires knowledge of history and mythology, which explain how they find their targets, even if we discount demonic knowledge as an info source.
We have everything we need to know short of a comprehensive breakdown of their member list and combat skillset.
And we ain't getting that by walking around in an invisible deerstalker. We get that by;
(a) infiltrating
or (b) fighting them and not dying.

>>33367899
I'll likely be off soon, so on the off chance you return while the thread's still up, I'll lay down a vote to kill the killy demony professor that's trying to kill us before it kills us.
>>
>>33368061
Why do we need to know what they're planning? We aren't some anti-demon force. We're doing this for food. If we're going to kill the dude behind the plan, then what does it matter what the plan is? The plan isn't going to happen.

As for loot, sure that could be cool, but what were you expecting? That they'd go to their loot room and we could follow em there? That they'd eventually just let slip that they're storing all their pilfered gods and artifacts in the storage locker located at [place]? No, this was supposed to be a short operation and that would take a while. It would have been faster to just beat the shit out of him and question him while we do it in the hopes that he spills. Or almost kill him and then let Caede torture him because she's damn good at it.

I told you that this wasn't going to work and that it was going to backfire on us. And then it did, but you seem to think that this is somehow my fault and we need to just keep up this behavior in every situation even when it doesn't fit.
>>
>>33368061

The plant transcends traditional views of timelines. When it dies in one, it dies in them all.

>>33368277

The luckiest option is that Lucy is planning on arriving a little ahead of time. Now, to be clear, that isn't good for us, but it is good for getting all these shenanigans wrapped up. If a quest is getting tiresome, I much prefer a finish to an indefinite haiedus.
>>
>>33368277

That's always a possibility. We aren't guaranteed more relevant info just because we say that we want to try to find it.
>>
>>33368441

Kind of pisses me off. The one time I vote to not attack it was pointless from the start. I'm too tired to decide if I'm stupid or if I had a valid point that there was reason to investigate, and that investigating would help.

Hate to bring it up again, but I think things were more fun back when we weren't working as though we were on a deadline. We don't /need/ to take over the world at end game.
>>
We ask for demons and when we get a chance to eat them we go around talking to shit like they will just leave all their loot out in the open with a big ass sign on it? This was an open and shut case but it dragged out.

>>

Ehh... I dunno. I think we didn't handle this too well and I'm usually one of the people getting uppity about too much talking to shit, but the scarecrow seemed like a good idea to me. Starting at the basics we would either have to start with having fun and protecting our smile be our priority or eating food be our priority.
I agree that it was more fun before we worked as though we are on a deadline. Cept we are on a deadline.
>>
>>33368605
Trolling the internet for gods has never let is down. This time around we had the drop on the demon assholes and instead of jumping them we helped some random chick with her home work. We even brought the party members who are okay with us randomly killing people and we still sat around doing jack shit
>>
>>33368687
>Trolling the internet for gods has never let is down.
It always produces things, but we never really have any idea of what those things are. it's a pot luck. I just want a real menu and hopefully the scarecrow keeps a list of his own.

>This time around we had the drop on the demon assholes and instead of jumping them we helped some random chick with her home work. We even brought the party members who are okay with us randomly killing people and we still sat around doing jack shit
I know, anon. I know. I even voted for these people specifically so we could be a douchebag and not have to worry about it. Other people just wanted to figure out -everything- before acting more than we wanted to get shit down asap.
>>
>>33368742
I wasn't really able to participate but maybe the reason people were really pushing investigation is because they didn't want to be tricked again?

And part of it might be a general rebellion of just being rushed all the time.
>>
>>33368803
Then we could have gone to a nightclub or something. If we want to dick around the middle of an assload of demons is not the place for it
>>
>>33368803
>And part of it might be a general rebellion of just being rushed all the time.
That seems incredibly petty and obnoxiously passive aggressive to me.
>>
>>33368742

I think it was more fun for OP when we just jumped, killed, and ate everything willie nillie, when he didn't have to worry about a vast and intricate band of tag-a-longs who we are so overly attached to and paranoid about and all of the various plot strands running in every direction. After all, it used to not matter. A cat with a ball of yarn won't ask questions but just proceed beating the shit out of the yarn.

In the end, many people are talking about bringing the quest back to its roots. One thing to consider is that this quest has existed long enough to where many of the likely posters nowadays weren't even around when the roots were laid. Their curiosity about the world turns into a desire to see everything and push every button rather than getting to the matter at hand. I count myself among this number, but it seems that this isn't what a lot of people want, even Azure. Like Bleach, I think this game has run its course. What I think we need now is the end, not a continuing stream of increasingly samey incidents that just further convolute the "plot".
>>
>>33368892
That's a bold and inflammatory statement.

Hueco Mundo only lasted for one all-day marathon, it wasn't really a significant portion of the quest.
>>
>>33368892
And I dissagree entirely. I'm glad Risa has more things and sincearly hope OP does not take your advice
>>
>>33368892
>I came into this quest recently and don't like what it was in the beginning and I don't like that the OP and many of the other players did like that, so I think that this needs to end.
>>
>>33368892
To be honest, the idea of the ever-looming endgame is the thing that's kind of hurting my enjoyment of the quest.

Like it makes everyone so impatient and make bad ideas, like trying to take on all Squad Zero at once.
>>
>>33368892
I think azure likes the plots but not when we sit around hemming and hawing about things. Like those shinigami who were after Raijin. We should have made a decision one way or the other. Instead we had Hiroshi take care of it.

This time we had a lead and instead of taking it we sat around waiting to react or for everything to fall into our laps. There is a time for buttons and a time for action.
>>
>>33368892
I for one don't want an end.
We have three problems
1. We have team members we don't want to die
2. We need food
3. We can't find food

For one, we simply stop bringing people along with us. We can have non-Risa people times when we get back from hunting, and I assume they will ask us to do stuff with/for them. For two and three we simply stop aiming to take over the world and we won't need to have that much food.
Don't misunderstand and think that there is a good number of people saying this, I am >>33368540 as well
I wish more people would reconsider wanting gota go fast mode, but I won't mention it anymore.
>>
>>33369021
Well in this particular case, now Caede and us get to eat the stuff the Professor summoned, in addition to the Professor himself and his minions.
>>
>>33369000
So what do we do? Act like we never asked for a estimate of when Lucy makes his move?
I agree with you though. Loki and Feneir were the last highpoints.
>>
>>33369022
I like gotta kill em all adventures and it would be far better if people didn't drag every other thread to a dead stop with trying to explore every single branching option.
>>
Fellow voices! I have a grave realization! It is a full moon or a nearly full moon tonight.

Werewolves are about! We must hide Jericho!
>>
>>33368983

I think you may be misunderstanding my statement. I read through the first parts of the quest. Moreover, I find that I like the quest one way or the other, but at the same time, Azure seems about burnt out. He's literally just left mid-thread because he wasn't feeling it. The apocalypse hasn't started or anything just because of that, but it seems like it would be a point of consideration to think about whether continuing to stretch out this game won't just result in a continued loss of cohesion. You're entitled to your opinion, as am I.
>>
>>33369053
We could have done that at the start and done scrub bonding after. We are just reacting and not acting enough
>>
>>33369095

Werewolves have a good nose. They'll probably keep away from the sulfur smells.
>>
>>33369105
The problem isn't that there isn't real cohesive plot happening or anything of the like. Just going around and killing shit with slice of life inbetween could be fun as hell.

The problem is that we've had multiple threads in a short span of time where people, instead of doing things, drag all action to a dead halt. The first time it was with the shinigami trio and the repetitive 6 hour long "I'm not the worst!" argument thing where we refused to make a decision that advanced the situation. This was the next really bad one where we did the same thing. We came to a point where we'd extracted everything we were going to from investigation, but we just voted to investigate more instead of advancing the situation.

The problem isn't that the quality of the quest is going down, it's that the voters keep deciding to pick at one unimportant issue for stupid lengths of time and Azure keeps letting them do it because he's terrified of another bullshit 'muh agency' shitstorm.
>>
>>33369105
Guys been running for 5/4 days of the week for a good bit now. He just needs a break. If he doesn't enjoy QMing he should say so and he would say so.

Will say this. Quest use to be about having fun in a dangerous and mysterious universe. The players saw that there were bigger fish in the pond and got scared. The fear fully took control after we nearly got our things killed the last time. We turned this into become the biggest fish in less then two months, the quest.
>>
>>33369233
Look with the shinigami was partially on AE, since he insisted on having the dialogue being entirely vote-based, so when I and someone else brought up the argument that eventually wound up convincing them, he didn't take it because not enough people voted for it even though that would have saved a couple hours.
>>
>>33369258
Yeah I don't really like the sprint to shove everything into our mouth.

But with the University stuff, I think that was just a simple case of players being confused and wanting to learn more maybe?
>>
>>33369357
Eatting use to be about
>Oah hey, Lets fuck this guy up. Eat him too. Oah, powerups? Nice.
Now it's turned to
>Eat him need SPXP eat him need SPXP. Only 20? Fuck everything.

It's all attitude, and I've changed my attitude after this chat. Towards the former, I mean.
>>
>>33369233
>Azure keeps letting them do it because he's terrified of another bullshit 'muh agency' shitstorm.

To be fair, that's pretty much exactly what would happen.

>>33369357
I just joined the thread now, but personally speaking I agree with investigating. Why? Because they're summoning demons. We want to EAT demons. So let's either figure out how they're doing it, or let them do it and show up for the buffet.
>>
>>33369471
>To be fair, that's pretty much exactly what would happen.
>I just joined the thread now, but personally speaking I agree with investigating.
Something tells me that you would be one of the people shitstorming about their agency.
>>
>>33369471
While I get that logic, I think that's also what got us fucked with Squad Zero.

We could have dragged it out and done guerilla tactics, but Anon got greedy and now we can't even go back there until we get gooder than we've ever been before now.

I have no idea how the fuck you guys thought we could take all of Squad Zero at once, I'm pretty sure we didn't even severely wound ANY of them.
>>
>>33369518
iirc, people thought there were going to be less of them left alive. They expected 3 and got 5.
>>
>>33369471
>Because they're summoning demons. We want to EAT demons.
How in the bloody fuck is that relevant? We can just pop into hell to kill demons when we want to. Summoning them up seems like a great big waste of resources and time.
>>
>>33369505
Is there some cognitive dissonance in my post making you think that? I'm just curious.

But I'd like to think not. I normally don't post at all, not even to vote on actions. I like letting the story just unfold and don't really like being in arguments.

>>33369572
Well, hell has a lot more demons and a lot less of our allies. Summoning a few select demons at a time saves us from ending up in another Squad Zero situation like >>33369518
mentioned.
>>
>muh SPXP
It's about the blood gore and lamentations of their women, not the SPXP. Quit basing decisions on SPXP or possible avenues of getting more SPXP and instead on how fun it will be.

>Is there some cognitive dissonance in my post making you think that? I'm just curious.
You say you just joined the thread and you're joining in on this discussion, which indicates that you've read the thread. You have seen that continuing the investigating was both boring and useless and has backfired on us, yet you claim that you still want to do it.

I find it unlikely that you're the kind of person would both think that and not bitch and moan if you were to be told 'no'.

Okay, wow. We sort of needed a little bit of a sit down aye?

They are not summoning demons. They are using a grand spell which will probably burn a good chunk of your gojucie for a bit because that is what hellfire does. They saw Caede, saw she was with you, and put two and two together just like Caede sort of warned you might happen. They are going to use the demons already there and have already got their mates set.

Please stop freaking out about the deadline. Seriously, stop. After you ate sammiches I said something along the lines of "Hey, you are ahead of the curve you should be fine." I had NPCs tell you that you are fine. But you still won't actually believe you are fine and think you are going to die again at the drop of a hat. You are fine.

I get that some people want to just romp about and troll and that is totally cool, I get that. I like running fun things and when it develops Jager, Sin-Fin, and all them that is even better because I find it fun too. Want to push buttons? Okay, I wrote buttons specifically for people who wanted it. However there is a time and a place for fun happy go lucky crazy parts. When you are hunting demons in their turf? Not the time at all.

To the people who said they thought the demons would leave super magical god stuff just laying around I can only ask why? Would you place secret demon/god magical stuff in the open, no. They didn't either.

The main problem I am sort of feeling is as an anon put it we are reacting. With the Raijin issue? We should have finished that quickly. Instead we kept debating back and forth about talking. Yes, I know an anon posted something that would have worked well. However I can't just pick what I like. That is not a quest. You brought it up before and you are unhappy it turned out that way, well so am I.

But it wasn't the most voted on action within the window. If I just chose what I like we would have an Agency problem which as many players know is the single thing I am trying to preserve.
>>
>>33369865
Can we get out of Hell easily, by going through Hue Co?
I remember you, or Caede, saying that getting into Hell is easy but not getting out, unless specific summoning rituals are used.
>>
>>33369865
I still maintain that dialogue should specifically be a different thing.
>>
>>33369865

>>
>>33369865

If the only way to succeed a dialog choice is with a write-in, please don't disregard a write in just because it came later than 10 votes of people confusedly clicking the provided options because they couldn't think of anything and just wanted to post something.

Again, there is a time and a place for everything. Does Keiko have a plot hook? Totally, she is a button you could push; but later. When you are not hunting demons which you have been looking for since you lost your shot at masochism.

I think there is a disconnect between the players and it is causing votes which should last two or three updates to drag on for 4-6 hours.

When we fought Loki we took active measures to find him, and did everything we could to draw him out and kick his ass back to wherever Lokis come from because we felt we had to.

With Raijin we left it to Hiroshi, assumed some stuff incorrectly, and then sat around while a winch pulled down Raijin.

>>33369935
When you are in hell you are most likely not getting out at this time.
>>33369980
>>33370010
It wasn't the only way to succeed, it is just the way it was chosen because they wanted to 'let them beat on us' when that wasn't going to happen. Then they tried to say something dramatic and turn their backs on them confident they could totally ignore them. Then anon wanted to have hiroshi do all the talking rather than doing any talking themselves

I can not disregard the majority without railroading as I like. I already see if I were to take up the 'Oh, write ins are more important' mindset then as soon as I take a write in which will totally destroy a situation I will be yelled at for following through on the 'write-ins take precedence'.

I know there's lots of people doing the "I KNOW THE PROBLEM! ALLOW ME TO EDUCATE YOU!" thing, but I think I have an idea of something that is at least contributing to these situations.

We keep bringing different npc groups on every adventure, which is fun, but it means that there's a constantly changing set of rules for how we operate and what we can do and get away with and people just don't know it intuitively. They're treating our missions like we're going solo and not taking into account things like Caede not being as sneaky as we are. Sure, she straight up told us, but I'm willing to bet that people didn't think about it putting a time limit on our investigations where we'd have only so long before the demons saw her and did the old 2+2=hostiles inbound.

Going with lots of npcs for things is fun, but I think that it might be good for us to do solo stuff more often. I'm not saying that it would fix everything, and who knows. Maybe I'm wrong. But maybe we should hold off on bringing a small army to every single encounter. I think it's worth a try.

It is worth considering, but the problem is that when we bring the right party members it all meshes well and we have a good time.

I think people do forget what others can do. Maybe one thing to consider is posting a reminder of some sort constantly, but I honestly don't know if that will do anything.
>>
>>33369865

Yeah, stating that the whole head hunt is a bit superfluous was a much needed step in the right direction. We have been so busy trying to catch the last fire sale before meltdown that we have been continuously fraying every loose connection in our search for clues.

As for write-ins, I recommend taking pieces of whatever strikes your fancy and throwing them in if you think it's a good idea. Even if you go through with another option for mass voting, throwing in their bit to make whatever turn out from the other option better allows everyone to feel like their contribution mattered. So long as the words aren't out of your own mouth, I don't really care. Even if they were, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

That said, don't panic because people are getting antsy. Just take the quest at your own pace and make sure you can enjoy it. As a DM, I've sacrificed till I was broken for my players and I never want to see another person make the same mistake. The game is fun, the dialogue witty and the banter entertaining.

HueCo and Hell are two very different places with very different rules.

Your adorable younger sibling who frolics happily through the meadows with you eating ghosts when you are not looking.

There also seems to be some issue with SPXP. I think part of it may be from giving it out for made works. You think "Ugh, just SPXP? What a rip off."

If you had selected and saved your SPXP you would likely have a lot more higher end powers. Instead you didn't take it and decided to just branch out for the other stuff instead of actually saying "Sweet, 20 SPXP! Now we are just one more monster kill away from super mega death laser that we have been saving for!"

The current thought is "Ugh, 20spxp? Let's just get this other thing. We can make up the difference with drawfags."

The bonus stuff was supposed to be a "Thank you" for the drawfags and writefags who have been fantastic in giving stuff to the quest, not the bloody basis of your entire theory of upgrading.

I am considering getting rid of the system all together, I will think on it.

Appreciation met with immediate gratification can be a bit of a slippery slope. Having no dog in the fight, I really don't care one way or the other. I like having more art of this floating around. The Jaegar pic is adorable, and other things have caught my eye.

I would encourage the continuance of the rewards, but maybe allowing only cosmetic upgrades (possibly related to the art). Otherwise, maybe giving those points or benefits to other characters. Rerolls and 1 cancellations are also things that QMs do, but I find that it gets messy when people start point banking like the dirty whores they are.

I appreciate everything you have done and I enjoy the works people get excited to do but that is not my main issue with it.

It feels bad when people say "Oh, well this drawfag will give us SPXP" or "This writefag will give us stuff so we don't have to worry about getting it".

It is somethign players should worry about. They should absolutely worry about it and plan as if there will be no more write or drawfags. They should plan on that SPXP they get from nomming being the only SPXP they get.

I am going to think about it and maybe rework the system if this is how it continues.

>>33370685
It is supposed to be a hard choice. That was my plan for the power. Yes, they have cool powers, but you also have cool abilities in your higher upgrade trees and just grabbing stuff isn't as effective as it could be I feel.

There has to be a point where anon is able to say "Yeah, that's cool but we are sort of strapped for SPXP at the moment."
>>
>>33370409
>The current thought is "Ugh, 20spxp? Let's just get this other thing. We can make up the difference with drawfags."
I want to say thanks for addressing that and I hope that people stop doing it. The mentality has been bugging me for a while now, and I usually try to ask people to not do it, but I know that they probably don't. Whenever people start on the "we can just wait for drawfags or I'll write something", it gets me nervous that we're going to be stuck in non-progression unless I, or someone else, suddenly starts cranking out fanworks, but I don't want to do that. It feels empty and scummy to only make things because spxp and I just can't do it.

Sure, I've posted some crappy stuff that I would have probably just deleted without the system in place, but it still would have been drawn anyway and just gone unseen. Been trying to do that less and only post things I'm more or less happy with, though. I'll admit that some of my pics have been god-fucking-awful, but I still would have drawn them anyway and I'll still make things if you do decide to drop the system.

I'll be honest and say that I'll probably miss it if you do can the spxp system, but I don't draw things for HQR because you give us free stuff, I do it because I like the quest.
>>
>>33370751
Maybe fill out the not-yet-available section more? I've noticed that a lot of people don't look at the skills as a branching tree, they only look at each power individually.

Maybe, but even with "The End" People have left Zero on that list for a long time even though our primary means of combat is lasers and kicking.
>>
>>33371037
Maybe allow to pre-spend spxp on things to discount them the way that people can currently discount things when they post fanworks?

One of the biggest problems I see in quests with systems where you buy abilities is that the lower cost things always have an advantage. You only need to save up 20spxp for most things, but you need 50 (well, 34 now) for Zero.

Maybe if we could say "I want to put 16 towards unlocking Zero" instead of saying "I want to not spend anything for several weeks while other powers distract people", then we'd have a better chance of getting it. It's like a person with money in their pocket instead of the bank. Pocket money gonna get spent.

Ah well, being on the same page is the most important thing I guess. best nip misunderstanding and such in the bud before it erupts completely.

>>33370751
Its probably for the best you kill spxp for art program. Discounts maybe, because people usually ignore the hell out of the lower cost powers.

I like this idea though >>33371121

>>33370810
I find the branching stuff to be on the vague side. I don't vote for a power on the chance something cool or useful might come from because I don't what will actually come from it. It could give something cool, it could give something not cool. I'd rather pick something at guaranteed face value. Just because there might be some branching power just isn't a persuasive argument for getting a power imo. maybe if there was some kind of hints or something.
>>
>>33371266
Sorry it went down this way, but the only way we can fix stuff is to talk about it.

Or break it until there is only ash left but I don't think that is a thing that can happen.

I think I may just implement a pure discount program and allow spxp to be invested.

Sorry to hear about your friend's mom man hope it works out.

Something like ((Leads to))? Hm, something to think about.
>>
>>33371266
>maybe if there was some kind of hints or something
That's what the not-yet-available section is. It's hints about what you can unlock with the things currently available.

Like The End. We all know that it branches off of Zero. Obvious as fuck, but it's a very nice thing that we know that cero has more to go and Zero won't be a dead end in terms of usefulness.

There's also that OO power that boosts our regen. The power that boosts regen and is currently available is that organ thief thing, so it's a damn good bet that if we want better regen, we need to buy that to get on the right track.

Filling out that list more helps us out. But I can agree that it could stand to say a tiny bit more. I dunno. Light touch and all that.

>>33371368
>Something like ((Leads to))? Hm, something to think about.
I could dig it.

>>33371218
If you decide to do that, you might want to rework the way you represent it in the pastebins. Don't make new categories like how you have it now where Zero getting discounted means there's no more 50spxp category and you instead create a 34spxp cost category. It will get horribly cluttered if you keep the current method and allow for more discounting

Pastebin's down, so I can't copypaste an example or fix the thing up for you. Maybe I'll do it next thread or tweet it to you or something if pb ain't fixed within a few hours.
>>
>>33371425
You could make a table on GDocs...

nah, bad idea.
>>
Well, I would try to vote for discounting Zero now, but I don't think we should what with only 3 or however many people appear to be here being here.
>>
>>33371530

Huh?
>>
>>33371555
I'm saying that doing spxp spending votes now would probably not be right since there don't seem to be that many players left in the thread.
Which makes me worried that they just missed all of Azure's concerns about stuff.
>>
>>33371579

But we don't have the SPXP for Zero unless I missed something?
>>
>>33371621
You missed the part where Azure is most likely gonna start allowing us to pre-spend spxp on powers to discount them. We could put 16 into zero now to drop it from 34 down to 18.
>>
>>33371642

Oh wow, yeah I totally missed that.

Yeah, I'd be down with that too but I also doubt that we have enough people for a proper vote.
>>

I am still thinking about it. We will see when I start the next thread at a point that is not now but later.
>>
>>33371682
Some roll call.

There's at least people here. Let's call the whole thing off.
>>
I'm sad that this thread kinda imploded, but I feel the things that got said needed to get said. Oh well. I guess 2 days in a row was too good to be true.
>>
>>33371745
Time for silly questions?

What are the chances of Risa opening up some sort of school thing eventually? It feels like a thing that could totally happen.
>>
>>33371781
of all the thread implosions/shitstorms, this was the least painful one.

>Or a fullbringer
Actually, not-Homu fullbringer mite b cool. I could see a hammerspace timestop shield being an item.

I would not call this an implosion. Jager was an implosion. This is more like we were running a race and two angry naked ladies pulled our clothes off and we sort of stopped and went "Okay. How can we stop that from happening again?"

"Interplanar Mathematics Institute"

Instead of a fountain in front of the facilities, there's a big statue of the 'real degrees' beating the shit out of 'tosser degrees' with pipes and chains.

The fiddle. He can do lots of things, he is very talented

He's invited to the band. This needs to be within no less than 4 updates of him popping into the world.

>Oh hey what up Lucy Goosey?

>Ok. Awesome.
>SHIBA GEEET YO SCALY ASS OVER HERE! AND BRING THE DRUMS!

Fiddle? Gold or silver?

Does Gabriel get picked by everyone not an angel? How many temper tantrums has he threw?

Maybe we can at least be a guest lecturer somewhere on one of our slice of lifey days. That would be fun. I miss classroom hijinks, but I don't miss being obligated to show up every day preferably not hungover. Burning down the school was a good life choice.
>>
>>33372064
Jager could probably play bass
>>
>>33372136
What even is Jager? Some kind of weird Middle Easty mix? Probably has some German person in there somewhere because green eyes, but I got nothing for the rest.

This has probably been said before somewhere in the quest, but what does Jager's gun thing look like? I keep imagining it as a cross between the Gmod tool gun and a bolter pistol.

Mary Sue Boogaloo, lets go.
>>
>>33372209
the ghost of Les Claypool?

>but anon he's not dead-

that can be arranged.
>>
>>33372212
I sort of think about it like a bolt pistol with a small, like, holographic screen that pops up and she can push number into.

But without being as gritty I guess.

>>33372230
Is this because of the butts? I assure you none of the butts are named mary or sue.

Doesn't she have a thing on her sheet that says she can create weapons? Is a bass guitar really so different?

maybe replace trumpet with bass guitar?

>>

doesn't most of our offense involve exploding ourself?

I meant bang the drums with the intention of self-detonating so as to bump up the Masochism buff.

Guess I should have said "If we ever manage to eat a masochism demon" instead.

But the thing is that we have no idea who the right party members are because we go into the vast majority of these things blind and it turns into a guessing game of
>Who can even go right now and not get burnt out?
>Who might be good for this based on vague inklings?
>Who is a terrible match up for this?
>How many can we even bring for this?
>How many should we bring for this?
where we don't have any idea how it be for 4 out of 5.

And it's not like scouting or research is even something we could do efficiently since by the time we get info properly gathered for a well designed group strike, we could have solo'd most things.

Hopefully the scarecrow will start to rectify that by telling us who it is we're trying to kill before we show up at their house.
>>
>>33372756
If you read this after the thread 404s, can you tweet out the wing numbers of the fallen? All have 6 or do the lower ones only have 4?
