You are Sireyi Valyenya, 18 years old, you have just finished your Paladin training.

You are on a quest to retrieve the Horn of Alzurad: a legendary artefact that can call dead heroes back to fight for the holder of the Horn.

Checking the guards are in no danger of dying, and giving enough healing to make sure, you then abscond with the captain.

When you get to your base of operations in the basement of the Church of Velya you can (after the captain comes round) interrogate him and/or ask Jianxi what happened in there

Interrogation
>Nope
>Yes, we’ll interrogate him (who?)

Before you ask the captain any questions you decide to ask Jianxi what happened in there.
“So” you say carefully to Jianxi “any problems?”

“None at all” she says glibly, perhaps a little too glib.

“Are you sure?” you ask, pressing for more info. She looks at you as if considering what to keep secret “Well there was this one kid that got in the way, but nothing big.”

She grins “Unlike the twins eh? Tell me, did you miss so badly with that oversized hatchet because they throw your balance off when you fly?”

Maybe it’s better you drop this topic.

You and Jianxi settle down to talk to the captain, you ask the questions in a calm manner whilst Jianxi threatens him, and plays with her knife.

“What did you hope to gain by kidnapping me?” you ask “And why couldn’t you just join us?”

Captain Gorric, in a soaking nightshirt and tied up (it took 3 buckets of water to wake him) glares at you “Unlike some, I take my contracts of hire seriously” He spits at you, missing “The others are all untrustworthy idiots.”

“You seem very determined for a corrupt guard captain. There's more to it, isn't there?” you ask.

Why are people so bad at reading comprehension?
They didn't try to sacrifice us last time we were here.

Virginity making magical powers is useful, but there should be magical powers for having lots of children. Having lots of children is pretty good.

>>
For the purposes of this games laws of magic virginity is ended by an act of sex that includes both penetration of an appropriate orifice, and orgasm by one or both parties. Virginity is a plus for certain types of sacrifice, just as being a paladin or half-angel is, virginity grants no special powers on its own but is a factor in specialised circumstances – i.e. dealing with unicorns. And some later paladin powers are enhanced by virginity.

Touching the man you flood his body and soul with divine energies. In seconds he relives all of the harm he has visited on others. He jerks fitfully in his bands and then falls unconscious. He comes round a few days later (after the palace attack) a changed man, wanting to put his violent mercenary life behind him and make amends.

The night before the assault on the palace you pray to Velya for guidance. She sends you a vision in response.

You stand before a mirror image of yourself that crackles with electricity, surrounded by howling winds. As you both reach out to touch the other you are reunited, two halves becoming the same whole.

You stand in a thick and lush jungle, Matthias at your side, around you are dozens of wolves, in unison they throw back their heads and howl, a howl that is answered by Matthias standing at your side. As you watch he transforms into a wolf and leaps on the nearest one, tearing its throat out before attacking the next, and the next. The howling wolves make no move to stop him. Once all the wolves are dead, Matthias runs off into the forest and the dead wolves rise to their feet, their wounds healing, and follow him.

You are in a foreign land in the middle of a city, elaborate architecture surrounds you, people in strange clothing walk past. Down the street come strange horseless carriages belching steam, overhead huge wooden cabins hang suspended from vast floating shapes. Jianxi is next to you, looking around him wonder. As you gaze around you notice that Jianxi is naked, at the base of her spine just above her buttocks is a tattoo of two snakes held tight in a fist. As you watch other tattoos of animals, objects and mythical beasts appear on Jianxi, she doesn’t seem to notice. Finally a man walks out of the crowd and takes Jianxi by the hand, leading her away from you. You can see the now holds a baby in swaddling clothes in the crook of her arm.
>>
>>33359091
You stand alone upon a ruined landscape, submerged under several feet of water. The Horn of Alzurad is in your hand, you raise it to your mouth to blow it.
A crazed-looking man with wild hair grabs you by the throat and lifts you off the ground, choking you, you are unable to blow the horn as he crushes the life out of you. The last thing you hear before the vision ends is his voice shrieking “GIVE THAT BACK IT DOES NOT BELONG TO YOU IT’S MINE!”

You wonder what this means for the battle ahead.

Assault on the Palace

With your forces gathered, one early morning you begin the attack on the palace. Due to the number of people involved, completely hiding your attack isn’t an option.
The army moves in battering rams to smash down the palace gates as the palace guard rain down arrows, rocks and anything else they can get their hands on.

Eventually the gates break open and you rush inside with the troops. You halo drives them to greater effort and terrifies the palace guards.

After battling your way through the palace defenders you make your way to the throne room.
Sat on the throne is King Hallam, the years have not improved him: the same chubby face and the scowl of a petulant child used to getting his own way. He has grown larger since you last saw him, rolls of fat straining against his ornate clothes.
Next to him stands a short, ordinary-looking man in fine clothing, he is bending down to speak to the king. From both you can sense evil (magic, demon).
Between you and the throne stand a dozen tough-looking guards with spears.
“You came back” says the King, looking at you with hunger in his eyes “Now everything will be better once we’re married.”
The man bending down to speak to the king murmurs something inaudible and the king looks over at him briefly “Of course, yes” he turns back to you, “But first you must be taught how to obey.”
>>
>>33359122
You could try to talk him down, or fight your way through his guards

The king nod rapidly in agreement “Not on its own no, but our child will take restore this kingdom to glory, and getting married is the first step” he leers at you, revealing stained yellow teeth “Unless you’re eager to get to the conception my dear, in which case bring yourself over to me” he opens his arms in welcome.

“King Hallam” you say, trying for a peaceful solution one last time “Surrender to the justice of the people, or die.”

“No, no” he says, “it is you who will die!” and witch that lightning formed of black and blue erupts from his hands, flying towards you, it’s lethal energies...dissipating utterly against your divine and magical protections.

The vizier at the kings shoulder barks out something in a language that no human should be able to speak and oily black smoke coalesces around him, when it dissipates there are four monstrous forms standing there. As they start forward he slips out of a side exist.

The four...things are 8ft-tall toad-like humanoid figures – if toads had razor sharp teeth and claws. They radiate evil magic (demon).

Sireyi launches herself at one of the demons, her halberd cleaving into it even as a flash of divine energy explodes, killing it instantly (Divine Energy 12/13).
King Hallam blasts another burst of dark energy at you, but misses and kills one of his own guards.

Disappearing in a familiar blur, Jianxi makes her way around on of the guards and stabs him in the back.
Wounded he turns to face her, only to be cut down by one of the soldiers on your side. (Arcane Energy 10/11)

Matthias leaps towards one of the toad demons, swinging a powerful blow at its head, which it jumps back to avoid.
It leaps forward again and smashes at him with two powerful blows, opening up horrible wounds on his body (HP 23/33)

Isla chants out an arcane tongue and simply incinerates 3 of the palace guards. (Arcane Energy 29/33)

Battlefield
Although well trained, the palace guards are fighting more like novices under the effects of your Halo, as the soldiers with you are fighting like elite veterans. Even the Toad Demons are discomforted.

Two of the toad demons attack Sireyi, she slices one open with her halberd even as she blasts it with divine power, wounding it. The two toad demons slash at you with wicked claws, but blows that would tear people in two do little more than bruise you through your armour and divine protections (HP 11/13).
King Hallam blasts another burst of dark energy at you and hits, though it does little more than singe you slightly (HP 10/13).

Jianxi cuts down another guard.

Matthias manages to hit the toad demon he is fighting, wounding it slightly. He ducks out of the way of its return slashes

“So you really wanted to marry Miss Perfect” says Jianxi, as she traces a dagger gently down King Hallams cheek “Why, what did you see in her?” She doesn’t wait for him to answer before jabbing her dagger into his fleshy arm, causing him to slump on his throne, and start snoring.

Matthias backs off from combat breathing heavily.

Isla fires magical missiles at the remaining toad demon, finishing it (Arcane Energy 23/33).

The battle is over. The soldiers with you take up stations at the exits whilst leaving King Hallam in your charge, he is unconscious.

NEvertheless, watch out for traps.
>>
Hunting your way through the palace you find only confusion and battle, you head towards the horn. The sense of evil magic pervades everything.
Fortunately it seems that the forces you have bought with you are winning, as time passes you see fewer and fewer fights, and more and more you see your allies standing guard over defeated palace guards.

As you reach the edge of the Palace grounds you can feel the horn still ahead, the thief has disappeared into the city it seems.
You hear the piercing cry of a bird of prey, looking up you see what looks like a giant eagle on fire slowly circling above you.
That brings back memories.

As if it senses you watching, it gives another cry, and sets of flying over the palace rooftops. You wonder where he is trying to lead you this time, it is moving away from the Horn - though not directly so.

You fly after the giant bird, it has grown, as you have, and for a few minutes you recreate your graceful dance above the palace spires, until it once again leads you down towards a courtyard, though you can hear no whistle this time.

You find yourself in a familiar-looking courtyard – this is the same one you were trapped in 6 years ago, but there are no nets to fall on your this time, no gang of thugs with clubs to knock you down. Around the courtyard are a number of doorways.
Below you, you can feel evil magic, demonic in nature and very powerful. It might be your imagination but you think you can feel it growing stronger.

>>
You go through one of the doorways and follow a long flight of stairs down underground. As your wingtips brush the walls of the narrow stairwell you feel like the place is closing in on you. You try not to think about the tons of rock and earth above, by the Gods you hate enclosed spaces.

You finally reach the bottom of the stairs, below you can hear chanting in some arcane tongue and you can see a harsh red light emanating from the bottom of the stairs. You advance cautiously. The feeling of evil magic ahead of you is overpowering.

As you reach the bottom of the stairs you enter a very familiar room, it hasn’t changed much in 6 years.
Around this small underground room stand a dozen viziers in long ornate robes. They are chanting in unison and you can feel dark magic pulsing in this room. Unlike last time there is no magic circle inscribed on the floor, just a smooth covering of black tiles. Noticing your entrance they cease chanting and the chief vizier at the back of the room speaks.
“Welcome, Sireyi, Paladin of Velya, I’m Ralzuz Croyne” he says in a polite way, his wrinkled face contorting in a smile, or possibly a grimace “we’ve been waiting for you, I suppose you’re wondering what this is all about?”

“Looks like a group of demon-worshippers worshipping demons to me” you say, cocking a pose.
“Ah yes” Chief Vizier Croyne continues from the other side of the room “I thought you might say something like that.”

“And what exactly do you think you are doing?” you say

“Well, I confess, yes, I am guilty – I have consorted with dark powers, summoned demons, and sacrificed innocents in my quest for power, however” he continues, walking forward to the centre of the room “I know when I’m beaten, I am ready to surrender and face whatever justice you see fit.” All of this is delivered in a pleasant, conversational tone of voice.

“Of course I would expect some sort of consideration if I order the remaining palace forces to stand down, but you’ll meet me half-way won’t you?” He remains standing in the middle of the room. The other viziers are silent, waiting for the outcome of your exchange.

“No one is so evil they cannot repent” you say, considering his words, everything here is suspicious.

I mean, they knew we were coming months in advance, they could have summoned all the demons they wanted if they had the power to do so.
>>
>>33362569
Oh I did, and I don't regret it. But that didn't change that we didn't leave the party to go fight the boss, and were by events, forced into attacking the Vizers. I'm not really bothered by it honestly. I figured thats what would happen when the bird appeared.

Your Halberd strike removes the Viziers head (DE 6/13)

As the Chief Vizier dies, Ublexus gives a drawn out plaintive cry, fading away into nothing even as its tentacles reach out for you again, disappearing before they even touch you.
As it lashes out at you, it also lashes out at the other viziers, ripping some to shreds and grabbing others. As it is drawn back to Hell, all of the living viziers are drawn into hell with it, leaving you alone in the room.

With Chief Vizier Croyne defeated, the hellish energies of this place begin to ebb, though it may take years before this place can ever be truly clean. For a moment your mind flashes back to the last time you visited this place, idly you wonder how Uno and Juvo and your Aunt are doing right now.

As the demonic energies of this place slowly fade you can feel something else hidden under all the mystical filth of this place, something familiar...

In all honesty thats what I do. I then do what seems most fun anyway. I mean, come on, it was obvious the bird was going to lead us to something bad.

Basically, expect the worse but do whats fun.

You feel a tiny glimmer of familiar energies, it feels like....you. You concentrate and tug at this thread, unravelling it, marvelling at how it has been hidden here all these years, hidden to all except you.

As the spark of angelic energy expands it rushes into you and you remember, you remember what truly happened here 6 years ago. You remember staring across time at yourself, and you remember a part of yourself being trapped here, that you gladly welcome back.

Angelic powers unlocked

Elemental powers unlocked

(see rules pastebin)

Current Quest over, we’ll do XP as we do the epilogue, and then set up the next part.

XP
Sireyi only (NPC XP is handled by QM)
General XP 13 (can be spent upon anything)
- Quest Completion (10)
- Gain 3 of 4 captains (3)

Paladin XP 20 (you can only spend this upon paladin powers, weapon skills and Divine Energy)
- Defeated Demons (6)
- Defeated Demon-Worshippers (4)
- Prevented Hellgate from opening (10)

Angel XP 55 (you can only spend this upon angel powers, elemental powers and Divine Energy)
- You didn’t kill any mortals (5)
- Fragment of yourself reclaimed (50)

You still have:
1 general XP unspent
4 Paladin XP unspent
in addition to what you just gained

good point, his evilness cancelled him out.

With the battle over, all that’s left to do is pick up the pieces. The Palace guard has surrendered, the King is in the custody of the Churches and the mood is one of celebration and rejoicing.

You fly across the city hopefully but the Horn is still to the east, and north – directly into shifter territory.

Maybe it would be a good idea to speak to General Yagyu before venturing forth.

As the Angel of the Revolution you are greeted with welcoming smiles wherever you go, they are already talking about putting up statues of you.

When do you leave?

You find the good general enjoying a drink with his officers in the kitchens, as you approach with Jianxi in tow the merriment fades from his face and he ushers you into the corridor.

“Not much I can tell you about Kugan” says the General “Other than what I’ve already told you – avoid it if you can, or if you can’t, make sure you keep to the visitors enclaves.”

You ask a passing servant to bring you a map and you ask General Yagyu to show you where Kugan is, he taps a point far to the east of the map, across a vast desert, although it would be theoretically reachable by ship too. The maps maker simply lists this part as ‘The Unknown Lands’, the general taps the name and says “They’re not very hospitable to foreigners.”

He turns to Jianxi and says sadly “Your facial features mark you out as the Ries, or ruling caste, in short you are a noble, or from a noble family at least.

Jianxi seems shocked into silence at this.

>She also has a tattoo, possibly a family crest

Yagyu seems uncomfortable “What can a man say about the nobles who rule his homeland when he was born a commoner, when they exiled him?”

“The Ries rule Kugan but they are themselves ruled by a strict code of conduct, Ries cannot marry non-Ries for example – the penalty for fraternising with peasants is death for both parties. Ries have very closely watched bloodlines – breeding is a huge part of who they are, professional horsebreeders are not that obsessive.”

“They must observe strict social rules, etiquette, things like that. I don’t know much more.”

“Some Ries do tattoo their family crests onto their children” says the General, thoughtfully “what does it look like?”

“Your Goddess has been granted you visions of me naked!” She exclaims “That scheming, match-making, bitch, why I-” Her cheeks are now flaming red.

“Hey” you interject, “enough with the blasphemy, It wasn’t like that”

“Oh no?!” cries Jianxi “erotic visions, 10 a copper, no wonder they call Velya the Goddess of slu-”

A strangled sob escapes General Yagyu “The Snakefist Ries” he says, his voice choked with emotion “Are the Emperors enforcers, they possess mystical powers and kill anyone who opposes the Emperor, the families of traitors are exiled.” And with that he storms off.

I...don't know what you mean?

>>
You stay a few days to enjoy the festivities, and to watch the trial of the King. One thing that does come out is that a stranger came to the Palace months ago and was consulting with the Kings Viziers about...some strange object he had. The court loses interest without any evidence of this stranger or object taking part in demon worship.

The King is found guilty and is publically executed, his children are given into the care of the Churches, some of his wives are free to go, though one, convicted as a demon worshipper as well, is also executed.

After resupplying, and drawing sufficient funds from the Churches you are ready to continue your journey.

You manage to bargain the City Planning Committee down to just one statue of you, fully clothed, in a small square out of the way of the main markets.

You head into the jungle, towards shifter territory. You approach the border, as the shifters define it, about half a mile into the jungle. A line of wooden poles, each with a human skull on top of it, the tops of the skulls have been removed and the afternoon wind blowing through the trees sounds like the moans of suffering.
