YOU ARE LOLI,

and you're sitting beside Vasa. After you made her push herself too hard, she's resting for a bit before trying anything else. You're passing the time by talking. The conversation just turned to Kris.
You ask her, "so... you don't know what Kris is here for then?"

"I, what? No, I didn't say that. I-" Vasa takes a breath, then starts over. "She hasn't told me, no. But she'd tell us if we needed to know, right? I trust her. She's looking out for us, I know it."
Vasa trails off, apparently not wanting to say more on the subject.

"She told me she's looking for something called the Wish Granter," you mention. Vasa's head snaps around to fix you with a look.

"She said that?" Vasa's tone has suddenly turned very, very serious. "In those exact words? That she's looking for the Wish Granter?"

"Uhm, well... not 'exactly'. She said it's where the Wish Granter is. What she's looking for. I wonder what she wants to wish for if she wants it so badly. Hey, what would you wish for, Vasa-neesan? I bet there's loads of stuff to wish for, right?"

Vasa blinks twice. "Hmm? What? Oh, uh. I don't know. I don't... really have anything to wish for." She's looking really moody now. Is she angry that Kris told you and not her? Is she angry at you for asking about wishes?

Trying to suppress your panic at her mood change, you try to change topics to something else.

"...do you remember back when we were playing with those 'spatial anomalies' when we got lost?" You ask timidly, not wanting to upset her further. She nods, and you continue. "Kris said something about London. So I guess she's traveled a bit, right? I was just wondering if you'd been anywhere. Or if you wanted to?"

She shrugs, "I've lived with my Father my entire life. Until he left. No reason to go anywhere else. We were happy enough." You frown a little.

"But that's not very exciting! Life should be an adventure, right?" You ball your fists enthusiastically, but Vasa just shrugs again.

"Adventures get people killed." Aaand your enthusiasm peters out. Boy, she really doesn't like fun!

"Okay, well what is your papa like? You lived with him forever, so he's a good person, right?"

She smiles a little at that, "yeah. Taught me everything I know. Mother died when I was little. He married again to another nice lady, but she wasn't my mother. I think he realized how I felt, so he spent all his free time with me. Just to keep me company. I loved learning how to hunt with him. Then one day he was gone, with a message that he'd come here. I didn't have anywhere else to belong, so I came to find him."

You hum thoughtfully at this. "It's funny, isn't it? Your papa ran away from you, but I ran away from mine. Do you think that makes me a bad person?"

"Yes." She doesn't even hesitate, saying the word forcefully. "You had a family that loves you and you're putting them through agony while you're here. And my Father didn't run away from me. He had his reasons to come. He had to." She... sounds hopeful, not certain.

Wow. Vasa is so deep up her own arse it's amazing she hasn't suffocated yet.
>>
>>33354025
Aahhh! You're not good at this. You just keep turning up more and more things she doesn't want to talk about! Maybe... if you talk about something here and now?

"We found out something interesting while we were saving the hostages."

She tilts her head in question. "Hostages?"

"You weren't here, you were still sleeping. Me and Ice and Kris and Dave saved some hostages from bandits. And it turns out the stash we found in the mill? It was Dave's! He put it all there. But he didn't say anything about it, like he was okay with us having taken it. Do you think he knew we were going to go there and set it up for us? Does that mean he was watching us for ages?"

Vasa just sighs. "I really hope not. Had enough of plots and plans for one life. I don't even get it. How do they guess what we're gonna do before we do? Creeps me out."

Oh great. Another topic she doesn't like! You feel despair start to well up inside you, as she angrily grumbles further about people setting up plans to make her do things for them when couldn't they just ask like normal, regular people?

She catches a glimpse of you from the corner of her eye, and stops her little tirade. "...maybe you should ask Dave instead of me."

She stretches her legs out, wiggles her shoulders, then starts to stand up. "Alright, I'm good. Thanks, Loli. For, keeping me company." She reaches out a hand towards you, pauses midair as if having second thoughts, then quickly ruffles your hair before turning away. "Let's get back to your lessons."

>[X]Agree. Get back to lessons!

You hop to your feet excitedly. "Yeah! What're we doing now?"

She scratches her cheek, "well I wanted to run a few more grappling games, maybe teach you some techniques for things you can actually beat. But I probably shouldn't risk that again. I guess we could run some other exercises. Like how to field strip your weapons, or some target practice. We could play hide and seek again. Or... hey, do you know how to throw knives?"

"No," you tell her. "They have people doing that at circus shows, right? It looks really hard!"

The corner of her mouth perks a little, "needs some skill, but we can work on it."

She takes you over to the bank behind Skadovsk, and marks a clear area on the slope with a target. Then she produces a few knives from under her shirt. "You can actually do this with any knife, but balanced ones are better. So use these for now." She hands you three of the knives, then readies one in her hand, holding the blade between her fingers and thumb. "What you want to do, is spin it when you throw so the point lands down, right? Like this." With a flick of her arm, she hurls the little knife. It flies over the ten paces to the bank and lands with a squish in the muddy bank, point deep in the target she sketched out.
"Right? Now you try."

Frowning in concentration, you hold the knife the same way, then throw it like a rock at the target. It flips through the air, careening off to the left and bouncing handle-first off the bank a yard away from the target. Vasa sighs. "Watch carefully how I move my arm. Flick it like...*this*." It lands dead on the target again.

Right. Okay. You think you get it. Your turn again.

I just hope we can learn to take care of our guns afterwards, because we're heading north soon, which means we're gonna need and will be finding better and better guns and we're going to be needing to use them against stronger enemies, like guys in exosuits which our knives just bounce right off of...

Bending your wrist back, and bringing your right foot back, you line up your throw to the target. Then you swing straight down, letting the knife go when it's sort-of level with the target. It flies straight this time! But it still lands handle-first, and bounces off the ground a few feet short.

Your shoulders sag at the failure, but Vasa is pleased. "Good! That's good," she nods with a smile, "try again. But this time throw a little harder so it travels the distance."

As per her instruction, you try again. This time, the knife doesn't fall out of the air too soon and actually hits a few inches away from the center target. But still lands handle first.
"Excellent! You're a natural at this." You... don't see how. You haven't even got it to land point first yet!
You grumble, feeling a little down, but Vasa doesn't seem to register, instead crossing to the target and picking up all five knives and handing them to you again. "Now all you have to do is change your wrist angle. Here," she makes you stand in the ready position, then tilts your wrist a little away from where you had it. "Try now."

The knife hits the target flat on, instead of on its handle. She lines you up again, then tilts your angle a little more. As she's doing so, she keeps giving little tips about how to judge distance, and how the angle of your wrist and how you flick changes the amount the knife will spin by. "What you need to do is judge how much it's going to spin before it hits, and change your grip to match."

One more time. This time, it flies straight, hits the target edge-first and digs a few inches into the mud.

"YIPEE! I DID IT, VASA! I DID IT!"

Despite her attempts to stay neutral, she grins at your excitement. "Now do it twice more to prove it wasn't a fluke."

I'm not sure which game's canon we're situated in, but in CoP your knife is a rape machine, and in SoC a stab to the head kills an exosuit.

I love the knife in that game.

Is there any mod available for installing a weapon that takes weight, but reaches further and has a higher DPS?

There are only a few mutants I can't reliably shank. SoC bloodsuckers, and CoP controllers.
>>
>>33354815

>>
>>33354895
The knives do technically work on the exosuits, as long as you find the right spot. We've stabbed people wearing them before, it's just not very effective. I think we managed to break two knives on just one suit.
>>
>>33354798
After a few more rounds, Vasa seems happy that you've got the basics down, and asks what you want to do next. "If you're feeling okay, I wanna try some wrestling again."

A flicker of doubt passes through her face, but she nods and walks back to the clear space in front of the boat. "Alright. We'll run some slow, gentle stuff just so you get the idea."

She shakes her shoulders out, then lowers herself into a fighting stance. "You're tiny, so whatever you do should be trying to use the attacker's strength against them." She takes a few exaggeratedly slow paces towards you, raising her arm as if she were going to hit you. "Okay, step to your right, and bring you arm up..."
She guides you through a really slow example, and pretends to let her weight carry her through and over you as you 'roll' out of her attack, then mimes falling over.

After two more pretend attacks, you sort of have a basic understanding of what she's trying to get at with these moves, but you don't have any sort of feel as to how to actually use them in a real fight.

Your dissatisfaction with the lesson apparently shows on your face as her cheeks redden a little, and she scratches the back of her head. "Sorry. Not really ideal." She sucks in a breath, grits her teeth, then readies herself again. "Okay, try for real this time."

>The knives do technically work on the exosuits,

>It's worth noting that the exosuits are thick bullet-proof kevlar over steel or composite plates. The kevlar stands no chance against the blades, which is why you can dig pretty deep to begin with, but can't so anything against the plates. The actual exosuit itself is just the pipes and framework that provide synthetic muscle and motors to help the person move that much weight about and still be combat effective.
>The reason Loli can't one-shot an exosuit fighter in the neck/head is because she's a tiny twelve-year-old who can't physically reach that high.

She rushes at you at a real combat-like pace, swinging her as if she were going to punch you in the face. Focusing on the moves she just taught you, you sidestep her momentum, making sure her arm passes clean over you, then use your body as a tripping block to flip her over onto her back. She hits the muddy ground with a plop, coughing a little with the impact. With some effort, she rolls herself back over and you help her stand back up.

>what dice system are you going to keep after all?
I haven't decided yet. 4d6-4 is the more "balanced" system for getting rolls, and the percentages are easier to work with. But best of 3d20 seems to generate more FUN when we use it, due to crits and wild variation. It requires a different mindset though, with less "punishment" for critfails and more "you didn't succeed but in an interesting way". Which, actually, I find very hard to write.
With the 4d6-4, you're effectively always rolling a 9, 10 or 11 out of 20. It gives an easier method to work chance of success with, but let's be honest, rolling a Nat.1 is more entertaining than failing an "easy" check by 5 degrees.

You've had some goddamn hilarious ones, though, can't really blame you for running out of ideas for them. If /tg/ dice weren't utter dicks, we wouldn't have that kind of problem.

>Where possible, I will only kill relevant characters on-screen.
Confirmation that Loli literally increases mortality rate with her presence, regardless of what she actually does. Maybe that's what called her to the zone, the Monolith decided it was too cruel to let her run loose in the world and is trying to contain her.
