Previously, on Avatar Quest.....

Accompanied by your friend, Felna, you returned to the creek bed to practice your bending. After managing to perform several new tricks, you were challenged to a friendly sparring match by Felna, that was quickly declared a draw after the two of you got scratched by rocks. You decided to find a better spot for a rematch, and followed the creek to a large lake. The two of you sparred on the beach for a time, then you erected a wall of sand to keep you from peaking while Felna went to wash off. After she finished, a humungous beast emerged from the lake and attacked. The two of you tried to flee, but were cut off. Your Earthbending alone was not enough to stop it, so Felna was forced to step in, revealing her secret; she is a Firebender. The two of you defeated the creature, then pushed it in the lake to keep it from dying. On your way back, Felna discussed the possibility of constructing a house with Earthbending. You gave it a try, and made a house of sorts, but were exhausted from the effort. Felna lead you back to the beach and kept watch while you got some rest. When you woke up, she was exhausted, but as it was dark, you decided to lead her home. Making your way up the creek, you were met by Galda, who was worried for her sister and angry with you. The meeting soon turned violent, and Galda slit your throat. You don't seem to remember what happened next, but you woke up back at camp, alive and fully healed. Your father was unconvinced that Galda slit your throat, but you soon spoke with Ren, who told you he believed his daughter had done it. He explained Galda's hatred of benders, and begged for mercy for her. You agreed, and he thanked you repeatedly before remarking about claims Felna had made about you firebending. You told him Felna was probably seeing things due to stress, and he said you were probably right, but said that healing of a severe wound like yours could only be done by water benders

>Welcome to Avatar Quest. Here are the rules.

Decisions are made by vote. Each vote has a ten minute interval, after which, the option that receives the most votes it the one that is chosen.

There are no write-ins unless explicitly stated

Some options require rolls. In that event, rolls will be out of 100. Whether rolls succeed or fail is decided by the first three rolls. If one passes, then you succeed regardless of the other two. Rolls will really only occur during training, or when trying something new.
All decisions are final. If you regret voting for something, too bad. Think carefully before you make decisions.

Try to keep waifu bullshit to a minimum.

Ren makes his way back to the others, leaving you alone just past the trees. You see him briefly exchange words with the other adults before he and Sena make their way over to Galda.

Felna looks in your direction and mouths the words "We'll talk later," before following her parents.

Your own parents make their way towards you, and you meet them halfway. Your mother immediately pulls you close and hugs you tightly.

"I am so glad you're okay," she tells you.

"As am I," your father says from her side. "But really, would you please tell your mother what ACTUALLY happened? All we've heard are these wild stories from Felna, and some nonsense from you about having your throat slit."

You tell them what happened as you remember it; how you and Felna were on your way back to camp when Galda confronted you. You go through the dialogue that was exchanged, and explain how Galda punched you in the face, then climbed on top of you with a dagger to your throat. You explain what you said to her, and how it resulted in her bringing her knife across your throat and cutting it.

Before you can say anything else, your father interrupts.

"That is ridiculous!" he tells you.

"Are you really saying that Shin is lying about almost being murdered?" your mom demands. "Especially when Felna told us the exact same thing before he even woke up?"

"Are you seriously saying you believe it?" your father demands of her. "He says his throat was slit, which is impossible, since he is very clearly alive and well. And Felna says he used firebending. He's an Earthbender! It's not possible!"

"It doesn't matter," you tell them. "It would be bad to speak of this outside the family, and I'm sure Galda regrets her decision already."

Your parents seem surprised by this response.

"Well, we already agreed not to tell anyone else about this," your father tells you. "That includes Bulo, Sonyo, and Lee."

"I'm surprised you're being so forgiving about this," your mom tells you, impressed. "Were I in your situation, I probably wouldn't do the same."

"Yes, it will be better for the family if you keep this between us and don't go off spouting nonsense," your father tells you.

Your mother gets up and turns to him. "I am tired of you calling our son and Felna liars!"

"And I'm tired of YOU encouraging these tall-tales!" your father retorts.

"Both of them said the exact same things, and neither of them were around while the other was telling the story," your mom tells him.

"They could have rehearsed it," your father replies.

"Why are you so determined to believe that our own son is lying to us?!" your mother screams at him.

"ENOUGH!" your father yells. "This discussion is over."

With that, he turns and stomps off back towards camp.

"What's up with him?" you ask your mother.

She lets out a sigh. "I'm not really sure. When Felna brought you back last night and started talking about what happened, he looked terrified. We all were. But, when she mentioned the fire bending and the flying, he still seemed terrified, but...in a different way. At that point, he started vehemently refusing to believe what Felna was saying. "

"I'm not lying," you promise her. "Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm not lying. Something happened. I don't know what it was, but something did."

She holds your shoulders and looks you in the eyes.

"I believe you," she says, and you can tell that she means it.

"And don't worry about dad," you tell her. "He's probably just stressed out. Things have been anything but calm around here."

She nods. "That's true. And, I can see why he has difficulty believing you bent fire. Nobody can bend more than one element at a time, well, excep-"

"Maybe I ignited a rock by accident?" you suggest, interrupting her mid sentence.

"Maybe," she answers. "But, I've never heard of anybody doing that with Earthbending. Then again, not many living Earthbenders can do what you can."

You decide to go and find Felna; the two of you probably have a lot to discuss after what happened last night, after all.

Recalling that she was making her way towards camp, you decide to head that way as well. Upon your arrival, you get a cheeky grin from Bulo; you don't want to imagine what he thought you and Felna were up to all night. Sonyo and Lee are having a sparring match off to the side, supervised by your mother and Sena.

Ren and Galda sit at the edge of camp, with Ren saying something to Galda, who has her head down. Your father sits in the center of camp, lost in thought.

You see no sign of Felna.

You find that you're extremely tired, and want to take a nap more than anything else. So, you do exactly that, finding a nice, soft piece of ground, curling up, and drifting away.

In your dreams, you are watching the events of last night from above. You see yourself on your back in the creek bed, with Galda on top of you, holding her dagger to your throat. You see yourself say something, and the dagger cut across your throat. You watch as Felna tackles Galda off of you, and as a strange glow begins to surround you.

As you watch, you rise into the air, and a great gust of wind blows the girls away. You see yourself hold out your hands, and flames appear in them as your head whips around. As you watch yourself rush to the water, you see Galda get back to her feet, eyes wide, and search frantically for her dagger, shouting something at Felna. As you watch, Felna approaches her from behind, mouths something, and strikes her sister on the back of the head, knocking her out. You see the other you kneeling in the water, and holding his hands to his throat, before slumping down and falling face-first into the water. The dream ends as Felna rushes towards the other you.

You next see the same dark-haired man from your earlier dream being held by a pair of armed men in front of some kind of great beast.

Your eyes snap open, and you take a look around.

Galda and Ren are still talking to one another, and Galda has finally lifted her head to look her father in the eyes. Your mother, father, and Sena, are all sitting together, talking, and you see that Bulo, Sonyo, Lee, and Felna, are all gathered together talking as well.

Bulo sees you first, and grins. "There you are. Been hiding all morning so you didn't have to tell me about what happened last night?"

Felna frowns as she looks at him. "Wait, you know what happened?"

He chuckles at her. "Of course I do. The two of you go out together, come back REALLY late at night, all of our parents are mad."

"I don't blame you for being reluctant to attack your sister," you tell her gently. "How is she, anyway? Galda, I mean."

"I haven't spoken to her since last night," she replies, letting out a sigh. "I am not looking forward to our next conversation."

"About what happened, though, me bending and all that...I'm not sure what's going on," you confess. "This is gonna sound stupid, but could you...try to help me firebend?"

"Thank you," you say. "It will be an honor to learn from you."

She grins wider at this.

"Where do we start?" you ask.

"Well, first we need a place to practice," she tells you. "I say we should try the beach; they'll be less likely to look for us there than the creek."

The two of you make the rest of the trip in relative silence, using your Earth stairs to make your way down into the creek, and following it until you reach the lake. The two of you walk around to the far side, and Felna instructs you to face the lake.

"Alright," she begins, stepping out in front of you. "Galda was right when she said that firebending was pretty much just shooting blasts of flame. It is a very simple process to do so, as well."

She takes a deep breath, and brings her hands close to her chest, then lowers them both, palms facing downward. Spinning around, she thrusts her hands forward, and a large jet of flame explodes from her fists out above the lake.

"I've found that breathing allows your blasts to be more powerful," she tells you. "Taking deep breaths allows you to make larger, longer lasting blasts. Short breaths help you bend faster, but the blasts are smaller and less powerful."

She turns back towards you. "Try to do a simple blast, and remember the breathing."

You follow her advice, and begin by taking a deep breath. You feel a warmth fill your chest, and as you pull back your arms, you feel the warmth beginning to spread to them. You lower them in front of you, and feel the warmth spreading to your hands. Chambering your arms, you take a step forward and thrust both arms forward.

To your amazement, a jet of flame releases from your fists, and while it is not nearly as large as Felna's, it's still big enough and powerful enough to give someone a serious burn. After a few feet, the fire evaporates, and after only a few seconds, it stops coming from your fists.

Felna claps, and grins from ear to ear. "Amazing! Shin, you did it! You're a fire bender!"

Her expression turns serious, and she speaks in a stern voice. "Do it again."

Once more, you bring your hands in close, and take a deep breath. You lower them in front of you, then chamber them, before thrusting them forward and shooting another jet of flame out over the lake.

"Again!" Felna tells you.

For the next several hours, you continue this process, the blasts becoming easier to conjure each time, until, soon, they reach the point where they become nearly effortless. It's still not quite as easy for you as Earthbending, but making a basic blast of fire isn't a challenge any longer.

"Excellent work," Felna tells you. "Now, try to create smaller, more rapid bursts of fire."

You do as she instructs, and pull back your right hand, taking quick shallow breaths as you thrust it forward, shooting out a small, narrow jet of flame that evaporates after a short distance. You repeat this action with your left fist.

"Good," Felna tells you. "Keep going."

And so you do, spending hours on this, just as you did with the more focused blasts. As the sun grows lower in the sky, and the light begins to fade, the area still glows bright with the flames you produce. Felna pays close attention, occasionally speaking up in order to tell you to continue, or giving suggestions on your stance or breathing.

Finally, she gives you permission to stop, and you collapse in an exhausted heap into the sand. She gives a small chuckle and walks over to you, placing a hand on your shoulder.

"You did a fantastic job," she tells you. "You're a fast learner. Soon, you'll probably be a better Firebender than me."

>>
>>33324384
I don't think they'd break out. Because they'd be dead. Smothering in molten materials is rarely non-lethal. Really, that's the flaw in bending as a combat discipline. Damage output greatly exceeds durability. Sure, there are defensive techniques, but it doesn't change the fact that one lucky strike can still kill you. Benders are still made of flesh, with all its attendant weaknesses. We're a glass cannon, pun intended.
