Previously, on Avatar Quest.......

After displaying a new Earthbending trick to friends and family, you decided to return to the creek bed to give your bending some more practice. Felna followed, asking if you would like to have a practice partner. You accepted, and the two of you made your way to the creek bed. There, you experimented with your bending and managed to perfect several new tricks. Felna was impressed and wanted to see how she would measure up against such a skilled opponent. The two of you had a brief spring match before getting cut up by the rocks in the creek bed. The two of you called it a draw and decided to find a different place to have another match. You suggested returning to camp, but Felna pointed out that it would be difficult for the two of you to fight your best when worried about accidentally hitting someone. So, the two of you followed the creek bed to a large lake. You travelled around it and found a beach to spar on. Using your new tricks, you were able to defeat Felna, who went into the lake to wash off the sand, while you sat behind a sand wall and faced away from her. Soon after she finished, a massive beat with the head of a shark and body of a turtle emerged. The two of you fled, but were cut off. You attacked the creature with Earthbending, but it still seemed to be too little. Then, Felna revealed herself to be a firebender, and the two of you worked together to defeat the great beast. You agreed to keep Felna's bending a secret
>>
>Welcome to Avatar Quest. Here are the rules.

Decisions are made by vote. Each vote has a ten minute interval, after which, the option that receives the most votes it the one that is chosen.

There are no write-ins unless explicitly stated

Some options require rolls. In that event, rolls will be out of 100. Whether rolls succeed or fail is decided by the first three rolls. If one passes, then you succeed regardless of the other two. Rolls will really only occur during training, or when trying something new.
All decisions are final. If you regret voting for something, too bad. Think carefully before you make decisions.

Try to keep waifu bullshit to a minimum.

As the two of you walk up the creek bed back the way you came, you are both silent. Despite the fact that you agreed to keep her secret, Felna still seems nervous now that she has revealed herself as a bender. Given her sister's attitude towards benders, you can see why she might not want her to know, but you aren't sure why she would keep it a secret from her parents, or even if she actually has kept it secret from them.

You notice her glancing over her shoulder occasionally, probably checking to see if that creature is following the two of you But, you've seen no sign of it since saving its life. Perhaps it understood what you did for it, and is grateful. Or maybe it's just afraid of the two of you now. Hard to say.

The silence is becoming awkward. Say something?

"Are you okay?" you ask her.

She nods. "I'm fine. It's just...this is really....I don't know how to describe it. I've worked hard for a really long time to keep my bending a secret, but now someone else knows about it."

She sighs. "I guess in some ways it's a relief; there's someone I don't have to hide it from anymore. But, at the same time, I let it slip. I let someone find out my secret. If it happened once, it will probably happen again. And what if next time it's someone who won't refrain from telling everybody?"

She stops walking and shakes her head, chuckling lightly. "You know, it's funny; you know my biggest secret, and I don't even know your name. You were the only one in your family who didn't tell the rest of us your name."

You decide to see if you can accomplish what she is suggesting, and so attempt to build a house from the Earth.

You start simple, by pulling two large columns of Earth partway out of the ground. You pull up one more, creating a building with three walls and a large entrance. The tricky part comes when you attempt to make a roof for it. Once again, you pull a large column of earth from the ground, but this time, you knock it over, then use your bending powers to lift it into the air. It takes extraordinary effort, but you manage to lift it to the top of the three walls, and gently set it down.

You've done it; you've created a house with Earthbending. It's no three story palace like the queen has, but it is certainly impressive, and will work just fine as a dwelling.

You turn to find Felna staring in disbelief at your creation.

"I...that...wow," she says. "I honestly didn't think you'd be able to do that. At least, not on your first try. But, that is amazing!"

She grins at you. "Making a town will be a lot easier now!"

She puts her hands on her hips and gives a knowing smirk, "Really?"

"Absolutely," you reply. "Now, if you'll excuse me, passing out on the sand from exertion seems infinitely comfier than doing so right here."

With that, you turn around and begin to walk back towards the lake. You hear Felna laugh as she comes up next to you, and puts your right arm around her shoulders, letting you lean on her and helping you walk.

"Come on, super-bender," she tells you. "Let's get you to the beach before you pass out and I'm stuck carrying you."

The two of you make it all the way back to the sand without you passing out. Felna takes your arm off of her shoulder and gently lays you down on your back.

Trusting her to keep watch, you give into the exhaustion and take a nap. Your dreams are filled with Earth, Fire, and wild beasts. But, towards the end, you also see a dark haired young man using firebending against several armed men. They appear to be fighting in the courtyard of some kind of palace.

When you wake up, you find that it has already gotten dark. Felna sits in front of a fire not far away from you. As you stand up, she turns towards you and gives a tired smile.

"I slept fine, but I had some odd dreams," you tell her.

She pats a spot on the ground next to her, and you take a seat there.

"Tell me about them," she suggests.

You tell her of the first few dreams you had, about Earth and Fire, and wild beasts.

"Well, given the events of today, that makes sense," she tells you.

You go on to explain the dream you had near the end; where a young, dark haired man was using firebending to battle with a group of armed men in a courtyard. Felna actually does look a bit confused by this one.

"Well, you might be dreaming about fighting with firebending because I did that today," she suggests, though she doesn't sound entirely convinced. "Or, it could mean nothing; dreams can be pretty strange and random, after all."

Even if it was a true dream, it's not anything that would matter to us. The nearest courtyard is dozens if not hundreds of miles away, much too far to have any impact on our lives. Let's just put it out of our minds for now.

Actually, how far are we from the nearest city? I assume we don't know the exact distance, since cartographic equipment is likely pretty unsophisticated at this point in history (though since we're in a Chinese-inspired setting we at least have compasses. China had those pretty early on.). But I assume we can at least guess based on how many days we were traveling.

This is a good point. We don't know what the elemental mix of the Northern Kingdom is. There were dozens of Lion Turtle cities, even if we only see one of each element in Wan's story. No reason that the Northern Kingdom couldn't have formed from the population of cities of multiple elements. It was always kind of implied that the division of the elements into the four nations wasn't always the case in the world's history, it could easily be the case that whatever led to the segregation of the nations along elemental lines hasn't happened yet.

You decide that getting back to camp would probably be a good idea.

You get to your feet and put out the fire before the two of you start moving around the lake to get back to the creek bed. It's dark, but the light of the moon provides enough illumination for the two of you to get around. You soon reach the creek bed and begin making your way towards the Earth Stairs you created earlier. As you walk, you notice Felna getting slower and slower, eventually struggling to even stay on her feet.

"You really think I don't see what you're doing here?" Galda asks. "You're trying to turn my sister against me, and make her worship benders just like everyone else. You're just another patsy for the Queen, trying to push her pro-bender agenda."

"Galda, just because I don't hate benders, doesn't mean that he-," Felna starts before being cut off.

"Fine!" Galda shouts back before returning her attention to you. "I'm watching you, Shin. If you try corrupting my sister, brainwashing her like the Queen would, I am going to kill you."

We're going to be doing our best to survive here, do you really think whether or not we do it with bending is the most important issue?"

She shakes her head. "Not yet. But once you no longer need our help to stay alive, you'll turn on us. You'll build a nice big pyramid out of the people in this new land and place yourselves on top of it. That's what benders do. And I am not going to let that happen."

"What is your fucking issue?" you ask. "You hate benders because Auntie was mean to you, I get that. But just because you think every bender in the world is trying VERY hard to ruin your day, doesn't mean we should ALL suffer for it."

She glares down at you, and you meet her glare with equal fury.

"Get off of me, or I will break you," you tell her.

Bad choice of words.

"You won't live long enough to do that," she replies, and you're suddenly VERY aware of the dagger at your throat.

Before you can do anything, she lashes it across your neck, not deep enough to make it a quick kill, but still deep enough to let you die slowly.

Your vision clouds, and you can hear Felna screaming your name, and vaguely see her tackle her sister off of you. Everything goes black.....

And suddenly comes back as you explode into the air on a mighty gust of wind. Both sisters are thrown several feet away from you, but you hardly register that fact. You illuminate the surrounding area with fire, and soon see a small bit of water nearby. You lower yourself to the ground and move towards it at a speed you didn't think possible. Cupping the water in your hands, you press it to the cut, and see a dim glow as your wound heals.

"I'm telling you, that's what happened," Felna insists.

"Firebending? He's an Earthbender! It must have been a trick of the light!" your father replies.

"And how do you explain his wounds healing?" your mother asks.

"Obviously Felna only THINKS she saw her sister stab him," your father tells her sternly. "I mean, really, even if he did bend fire, there's no way he could have used THAT to heal a wound to his throat."

"I know what I saw!" Felna shouts indignantly.

"It's not as if we have a dagger to check for blood," Ren says softly. "So, we can't know for sure."

Your sight returns, and you see all of the adults, along with Felna, standing over you.

"Bitch cut my throat," you say.

Everyone turns their attention to you as you speak, sitting up and looking at all of them.

"I'm sorry?" your father asks, clearly not expecting this accusation from you.

"Felna's right, Galda slashed my throat with a dagger," you explain.

Ren and Sena have looks of horror on their faces, while your father wears one of disbelief. Your mother seems torn between the feeling of relief that you're unharmed and the terror of having almost lost you.

Felna kneels down and throws her arms around you, giving you a warm hug.

"I'm so sorry I couldn't stop her," she says, tears streaming down her face as she pulls away.

"I'm still not convinced," your father speak up, earning a look of disbelief and anger from your mother.

"He just said that Galda slashed his throat!" your mother reminds him angrily.

"And yet, there is no cut on his throat, and he is very much alive," your father points out. "I think that perhaps Galda did pull a dagger on him, but she did not cut his throat, she slammed his head into the ground and knocked him out. Felna saw her shift her weight and assumed the worst."

"Then why is there no bump on his head?" your mother asks.

"Are you sure there isn't?" your father counters, kneeling at your side.

He runs his hand along the back of your head, and sure enough finds a bump. You don't remember having it, but you probably hit your head when Galda knocked you on your back and were too occupied by the knife at your throat to notice.

"Just as I thought," your father says. "A nice bump on the back of his head."

Your mother kneels down at your side and feels your head, frowning. "Okay, so he has a bump, but do you really think he'd lie-"

"I'm not saying he lied," your father assures her. "He simply lost consciousness from the blow to the head and assumed the worst, as Feln-

Your mom shakes her head. "Felna said she saw blood."

"Her fears may have caused her to see things," your father reasons. "And, as Ren said, we don't have a dagger to verify the claim."

"Why don't you have the dagger?" you demand. "Did Galda toss it out into the woods after I passed out? What's the matter, she couldn't pull it together for a repeat performance? I'm not sure how I survived, but I definitely got cut. There should be some blood on my collar, at least."

Your mother examines your collar, and nods. "There is."

Your father frowns as he examines the blood.

"How do you explain that?" your mother demands.

He sighs and stands up. "Felna, you said that Galda first struck him in the face, right?"

"Yes..." Felna tells him, confused as to what that has to do with anything.

"So, if she punched him in the nose, there's a good chance it could have bled," your father explains. "And, some of that blood could have dripped down onto his collar."

"Then why is there no blood on his face?" Felna demands.

"You said that you found him face down in the creek, right?" your father asks. "The blood on his face could have easily washed off."

Your mother and Felna whirl on him angrily, when Ren speaks up.

"I'm sorry, but, Shin, would you mind if you and I spoke privately?" he requests.

I say reconcile. Killing her is a waste of resources and theres definitely the possibility we could get caught. Also I think the Avatar isn't supposed to go around killing innocents
>>
>>33281972
Wait a minute. Lake Laogai is a large lake in the north-east of the eastern continent. Just like the one we picked out as the ideal place to found our new city. Are we going to found Ba Sing Se?
>>

>>33282086

We also can't kill her in an accident. It would be the most obvious thing ever and suspicion would fall on us for obvious reasons.

That would just alienate Felna and her family.

If reconciliation is impossible, we need to either send her packing in exile or wait for her to attack us before we finish her in self-defense.
>>
>>33282086
I only agree because the possibility we would be caught is high. But I have ridden the Somnius quest train one too many times to just believe we can wuv her into not killing us.

I vote we just don't associate with her for a thread or two than go pacifist monk, moral high ground on her.
>>
>>33282086
Hopefully she'll get herself into trouble and we can just let her die.
>>
>>33281958
>D Then you understand my position. I, personally, want to kill Galda outright. Not only for my personal grievances, but because I fear for my life and that of my family.

That is, of course, not what will be happening...but I still don't see a good alternative. Locking her in a box would only worsen her condition, and letting her loose would only give her a second chance. One I might not survive.
>>
>>33282179
>pacifist monk, moral high ground on her.

We should have been doing this but anons wanted to fight and argue
>>
>>33282127
>>33282146
>>33282149
True. Its still murder at that point, not to be a moral fag. It'd be one thing if we killed her in self defense. Meh, its weird. I agree shes not 'innocent' but I don't think killing her by accident would be 'acceptable.' Not to forget that it'd be incredibly obvious if we let her die or arrange an accident.

Also in most quests I'd completely agree with just murdering the shit out of her at the earliest convenience. However in this thread I think doing so just doesn't fit the character
>>
>>33282255
Yep, in-character we have been told this is the way we should go about it.

We need to rise above her hatred because who cares what the fuck she thinks. If she attacks us again, self-defense but other than that fuck her we have a city to build.

If she wants to raise shit about us interacting with her family, bend to her wishes but make it obvious who is being unreasonable, let her family argue our points for us in that case.
>>
>>33282292
You're absolutely right. We should rape her first, then murder.
>>
>>33282292
Oh I agree. We can't just "make it look like an accident" and we're the vessel of the Spirit of light, and good and all that shit. So no straight murdering yet. Gotta be a tyrant for even Kiyoshi to kill them.
>>
>>33282325
Then how about this? We push to have her exiled.

We move the camp down to the beach, and set up boundaries. If she's caught entering the boundaries, THEN we kill her.
>>
>>33282330
Damn. Thanks for reminding me anon.

Oh. Too bad. Well, it's a nice thought, anyway. I guess we'll just have to make our city even better than Ba Sing Se. For example, we could establish the tortoshark as the guardian beast of the city like the Serpent is for Ba Sing Se. It'll be cool.

Exiling isn't going to work unless she does something extreme. I would definitely be behind exiling if she attacks us or our family again and we can get more of a majority on our side for it.

You stay silent, allowing him to continue.

"Galda's been on edge ever since she found out that we would be living with a family of benders," he explains. "I should have seen this coming, especially after the fight you two had. I had hoped that, after your experience helping one another kill that Crocodile Wolf, maybe things would start to turn around."

He sighs. "I want you to understand why Galda has such a deep hatred for benders. And note: I said understand, not agree with. When Galda was very young, she thought it was the most amazing thing in the world that we were related to the Queen. But, she never understood why we lived in a small house in the city, instead of in the palace. One day, when she was seven, she managed to sneak into the palace. I still don't know how she did it, but she wanted to meet her aunt."

He takes a deep breath. "She didn't come back for a week. When she did, we could barely recognize her; her eyes were swollen shut, she had scorch marks all over her back, she was missing several of her teeth, and had a deep cut in her right shoulder. It was days before she could even open her eyes again, much less function like normal. For the longest time after, she was absolutely terrified of benders. Then, as she got older, and learned to fight, she grew to despise them, every last one, even if they had not wronged her in any way."

He drops to his knees in front of you, puts his hands on the ground in front of him, and puts his head in the dirt. "I am begging for your forgiveness on behalf of my daughter. I know you must be furious, and rightfully so, but I beg of you, show mercy. Do not kill her, do not send her out into the wilds to die. I have already lost my sister, and after coming so close to losing Galda once, I can't do it again. I will keep a close eye on her, and punish her severely for what she has done. She cut our throat.

We believe wholeheartedly she cut our throat.

Felna saw her do it and her father believes us.

The only one who doesn't think she did it is the father, who is just trying VERY hard to give her the benefit of the doubt.

She did something extreme already.

>>33282430
I think that suits our needs rather well. Besides, we've seen her work. She probably COULD survive on her own.
>>
>>33282408
How about we force her to wear stone shackles? That way if she ever tries anything again we can instantly bind her. Though getting them on her would be hard. I don't think we can fuse earth yet, right? That's not a trick we've learned, as far as I recall. Would be hard to shape the shackles onto her wrists and ankles, then.

These won't work. Yes she tried to kill us but no one is going to back us on this. It will look bad to everyone else, it will piss off Galda and it will get us barely anything.

We need to go moral high-ground, do not associate with her mode. We need to rise above the desire for punitive action but understand that we should be wary.

We should probably keep an eye on our siblings interactions with her since they are also benders.
>>

>>
>>33282647

Attempted murder is attempted murder, even with extenuating circumstances.

However, we pretty much have to take the mature solution right now.

What are we going to do? Tell the girl's dad that we are going to murder her? We have to be prudent about this.

>>
>>33282647
My thought on the matter is. Essentially, we are fine. Even though she tried to kill us she was still non lethal (for us) and so in some ways it can be looked at as no more than a murderous assault due to a horrifying experience. The best situation (if we are going more Aang route anyway) is to attempt to fix her rather than remove her from the situation.

You consider carefully. On the one hand, part of you REALLY wants her dead for what she did; trying to kill you is no minor offense. And besides, she could be a threat to you and your family. Another part insists that, even if you let her live, you should still smash her hands or keep her in bindings for the rest of her life. But, ultimately, your softer side wins.

"I agree," you tell him.

The look of relief on his face is difficult to look at in its intensity. "Thank you so much, Shin Tiniama. You are truly a kind and merciful man, and I cannot express my gratitude properly."

He rises to his feet and hugs you tightly, before taking a step back.

"And I am so glad that you are unharmed, I could never forgive myself had I allowed my own daughter to do something so horrible to such a kind-hearted individual," he continues.

You get the feeling that you have earned a great level of respect from Ren.

Is that term even really used at this point? I don't think there have been enough to establish the pattern. There have been what, four Avatars before us? Two of whom died before they could build the legend. And Wan's story is unique compared to the later Avatars. He stares at you for a moment, then shakes his head, chuckling. "You're right. That line of thinking was ridiculous, absolutely."

He turns away from you and begins to walk back towards everyone else. However, after a few steps, he stops and turns towards you.

"But, like me, you might want to give some thought as to how you survived that slash wound, and how it seems to have just disappeared," he tells you. "That kind of wound can only be healed with bending, and the only benders who have ever managed to do that have been waterbenders."

With that, he turns back around and makes his way back to the others, leaving you with a lot to think about.

The first Avatar. Started as a Promethean figure, stealing the secrets of firebending so he could lead a rebellion in his home city. Then he was exiled and studied with the spirits of the wild places beyond mankind's walls. He also accidentally unleashed the spirit of darkness upon the world and had to fuse with the spirit of light to defeat it. Said light spirit is the mediator that lets the Avatar use multiple elements at once without it overwhelming their soul. The term "avatar" does refer to a spirit incarnated in flesh, after all.
>>
o first we need to make the city stable then we can travel and master the elements. take Felna and Galda with us to start out. Then as we travel we start just doing general avatar stuff and help people and she realizes we all have the same problems bender or not.

Why IS waterbending the only element that can heal, anyway? The explanation given is that they're not physically manipulating the tissues, they're using water as a medium to adjust the chi. That's why they have a mass of glowing water when they heal instead of just laying on hands. So shouldn't other elements be able to alter the chi, too? Fire pouring in energy to supplement the life force, earth to stabilize and prevent degeneration, air to free the passage of chi back to balance. The body is a unity of all four elements, you should be able to affect it with more than just water.
