“Thanks,” you say. “But to be honest I’m probably digging it more myself. It’s fun as hell.”

Wolfgang laughs. “I noticed,” he says. “Not every day us dance princes get humbled, you know.”

“To be fair, you’d probably give me a run for my money if I didn’t catch you off guard,” you say, briefly making way for a couple of giggling girls as they head across the floor. “Really,” you continue, “you’ve got nice moves –didn’t see something like that from you.” You chuckle at the thought that’s just popped into your mind. “Nobody’s going to know what the hell’s going on in the court room when you win the verdict and just like, break it down right there and then.

“I’m counting on it. Everyone knows that a man of the law is only as good as his special moves,” Wolfgang replies.

You’re pretty sure that’s exactly how it works. “Yep,” you agree. Wolfgang’s a pretty chill guy, and though you’re in the middle of a sea of bodies, it’s kind of like you’re not at the same time. It’s the most relaxed you’ve been in a long time. (-2 Stress: 2/100)

But a rave is not the place to chat with anybody. “Say, you here with anybody?” you ask. “Besides Moriah, I mean. Or are you just going stag?” You wouldn’t want to pull him away from anybody. Or you know. If he was with somebody, you wouldn’t want to be a jerk and screw it up.

Wolfgang shrugs. “I came here with some pals, but they do their own thing and I do mine.”
>>
>>33256218

That fits your purposes just fine. “Well my thing’s checking out all the freaks,” you say. “You still dance mastering here or you want to come along?”

Wolfgang winces, as if the idea is some huge hassle that will ruin his scheduling for the rest of the night. “I was planning on being the center of attention for the next three, four hours, but I suppose I could take some time out,” he says wryly. “Let’s get out of this mess.”

The two of you weave and force your way through the crowd. It seems like ten minutes, but eventually you reach the sparsely populated sidelines where you can actually like, you know, breathe and stuff. You’re surprised to find scents besides body odor in the air, now that you’re not jammed in with people. There’s the stale smell of concrete and mixed flavoring of hair products and rubber from all the masks and fake costume bits.

The air is thick, but cool in comparison to the crush of the dancers.
>>
>>33256233

Wolfgang comes up beside you and leads the way over to the back of the place, from where you can get a good look at a lot of the party. You find a comfortable point and spend a few minutes picking out the coolest and the most disturbing costumes, while you lean up against the wall and take a break from the action.

“She should know better,” you say, wincing at the fat girl trying to pull off a sexy Tinkerbell. Especially after seeing the adorable version just like, an hour or two ago, this is especially horrendous. “I mean, wear what you want, but you should at least, like, acknowledge your body shape, ‘cause now I’m stuck here acknowledging it.”

“Just pray you don’t see the Wonder Woman,” says Wolfgang, a traumatized look in his eyes.

“Why’s – “ and then you see her. You wish you hadn’t. “And I am never going to forget seeing that.” (+3 Stress: 5/100)
>>
>>33256259

Wolfgang’s face is devoid of feeling. “I am so sorry.”

“You and me both, man,” you say, internally horrified.

“And now to change the subject,” Wolfgang says, changing the subject. “Moriah told me about how you stuck up for her. Thanks for that, by the way. And sorry about how it came around to bite you in the ass.”

You smile ruefully at yourself. “Yeah well, don’t be,” you say. “If it was like Groundhog Day, I’d totally do it again. Except, you know, I wouldn’t get wet. I would probably do that different. Unless like, I was trying to kill myself? Because I guess variety would be the only reason for living at that point, even if it involved dying.”

“Right,” says Wolfgang, nodding in agreement with everything you’ve just said.

You’re pretty sure there’s sarcasm there somewhere, but you decide to accept it at face value. “So anyway, why Draco? Is it just like, because you can pull it off, or is it more like because it appeals to your inner sense of looking good?”

“Both,” Wolfgang says. “But furthermore, I do it for Slytherin.”

“You’ll have to explain that one,” you say. Although the other points are just as valid. Looking cool is its own reward.

Wolfgang smirks. “They’re always portrayed from a Gryffindor-centric point of view, so it might seem like they’re a bunch of cartoon villains,” he says. “But out of all the houses, you know it’s the Slytherins that know how to have the best time. You don’t see them settling for less – they’ve got ambition. They’re all about raising the stakes.”
>>
>>33257123

“Yeah, ‘cause they’re evil,” you say.

“Evil or not, there’d be no plot without Slytherins. Everyone else is too busy keeping the status quo.”

Well, you guess that makes sense. Kind of. They do have a cool mascot, so you’ll give them that, at least. “Hey, by the way,” you say. “I kind of ran into your dad a while ago. He was uh. Busy, kind of. What’s his job again?” Maybe it’s prying, but you’d rather know straight up whether the Crowthers know about all the magic business or not.

“He runs a law firm,” Wolfgang informs you.

“Oh,” you say, kind of disappointed. “He looks the type.”

Wolfgang pauses for a minute. “He… has some other work on the side, though.”

You raise an eyebrow and glance surreptitiously at him.

He remains serious. “This have something to do with your ‘costume’?” he asks.

You purse your lips in thought. “I have a pretty good idea, actually, but I think it’s not the same idea of what you have,” you say.

Wolfgang waits for you to elaborate.

“They’d probably like, let me make a mess of their guest bedroom and try to make me not suck at school so much,” you say, kind of laughing to yourself at the thought. “You know, treat me like family and stuff. Because they already know. Because it’s why they ad – er, gave me a place to stay.”

Your answer surprises Wolfgang. “Really?” he asks, blankly.

“And your dad knows too,” you say. “I like, became a deputy marshal on Monday. Not like, the real Deputy Marshal, but like, a part time deputy marshal.” You look back over the dancing crowd. “I was trying to figure out what you know – I guess you don’t know anything, really,” you say, snickering to yourself.

Wolfgang jams his palm into his face. “I know my father never tells me anything,” he says. He smiles suddenly and begins laughing to himself. “Though, this makes last family game night a lot funnier in context.”

You furrow your brow. “You mean with Waldric? Oh. Waldo. Wald… dammit.” You really aren’t good with this crap. “Waldron!” you shout.
>>
>>33260298

“And I was thinking he was just nervous about you figuring something out,” Wolfgang continues, grinning in bewilderment. “You’re his contact? You’re the one killing Meckor’s conclave? Oh my life, this is ridiculous. Moriah is going to flip her lid when she finds out.”

You’re not sure you want Moriah flipping her lid.

Wolfgang catches the look on your face. “Don’t worry about her, her lid will flip in the best way possible as soon as she gets a look at you.”

Everything is becoming complicated. (+10 Stress: 25/100)

“Really?” you ask. “Because I’ve been like, toying with the idea of telling her that I’m hellborn ever since I met her.”

“Trust me, it’s better that you got to know her first,” says Wolfgang.

“Well what the heck are we standing around here for? Let’s go find her!” you say, heading off. This is getting kind of awesome. (-12 Stress: 13/100)

“Hey Sierra?” says Wolfgang.

You pause momentarily and look back at him. “What?”

“Do you know what Moriah’s costume is?” he asks, smiling.

“No, why?” Then it hits you. “Oh yeah. I uh. Guess I wouldn’t know what she looks like. C’mon then, you’re holding up the operation!”

“Hold your horses there, Speed Racer,” says Wolfgang. “I’ll just text her to meet us outside.” He pulls out his cell and shoots off the text, and the two of you head outside to the rendezvous point.

You step outside into the cold night air. There’s a hint of salt on the air – the sea breeze is coming in strong now that the sun’s thoroughly set. Beside a couple dark figures conversing over at the way, the place is pretty deserted. The deep beating of the music sounds faintly from back inside. It’s nice out here. (-2 Stress: 11/100)

“So,” you say, breaking the silence, “you really are a vampire then, right? I mean, I drink blood too sometimes, and I totally get that it’s fucking delicious and whatnot.”
>>
>>33261074

“TMI, Sierra,” Wolfgang says, making a sickened face.

“Well fine, if you’re not a vampire, what the hell’s the deal then?” you ask, feeling giddy. “What’s the missing piece? Like, lay it on me, I’m all for revelations and stuff right now.”

A figure in a blue cloak appears at the entryway and comes over toward you and Wolfgang. You can’t really make out any details under the cloak, but it’s fastened with a deep red jewel at the neck, and the hood’s up. The figure speaks in Moriah’s voice. “What happened?” she asks, coming up to Wolfgang.

Wolfgang lays an arm around his sister’s shoulders and turns her toward you. “Your friend’s here,” he says.

You smile and wave your knife-sharp fingers at Moriah.

She flips down her hood, revealing that her Raven costume covers all the little details as well as the big ones. You probably could have guessed she’d dress up as something like this, now that you think about it. “This… is a surprise,” says Moriah, looking at your demon form with wide eyes.

>Surprise!
>I’m full of surprises.
>Well, if you say you’re vampires now, I’m not going to be surprised.

Moriah doesn’t say anything for a while. She just stares meaningfully at you, and starts tearing up. “You’re beautiful,” she whispers.

That’s probably the most sincere compliment anybody’s ever given you. It’s not just like, about how you look, but you get the feeling she’s talking about you as a person too. You feel like you’re glowing, which you check to make sure you’re not. (-15 Stress: -4/100)

Caught off guard by her response, you kind of bumble forward jokingly. “So yeah,” you say. “In retrospect, your pentagram shirt actually does summon demons.”

Moriah actually laughs for once, and starts smiling and crying all over the place, and Wolfgang just rubs her shoulder reassuringly. Even he’s getting kind of misty eyed. Wolfgang doesn't strike you as the type to get misty eyed about anything.

“What’s wrong?” you ask. Did you do something wrong? Man, you screw things up too often.

“Nothing, you – you’re great,” says Moriah, beaming through her tears. She breaks Wolfgang’s grip and embraces you tightly, like she’s afraid you’ll blow away. You stiffen reflexively at the contact, and you fight back a panic attack. It’s Moriah. “You’re the best,” she says, burying her face in your shoulder.

You are stuck in a very awkward position. On one hand, you hate this and you feel like your skeleton’s going to jump out of your skin. On the other hand, you think Moriah’s going through something really powerful right now, and that she needs to hug you for some weird reason.

You must not complain. (+14 Stress: 10/100)

You stiffen up, but you buck up and power your way through. You rigidly bring your hands up and weakly kind of simulate returning the hug, though it’s just about all you can do to endure without freaking out. If she wanted a hug so bad, maybe she could have like, asked or something and you would have given her one – this isn’t a two way street. (+6 Stress: 16/100)

You’re really confused as to what’s going on, and eventually manage to kind of wheedle your way out in a way that’s not offensive or unnatural. Well, more than the usual level of unnatural, coming from you. “What’s going on?” you ask, confused. You pull back enough to get a look at Moriah’s face.

Her makeup’s streaking down her face with the tears. “I’m sorry, I just – I had to,” she says, stepping away so as to not be in your personal safety bubble. “I’ve just never… I never thought I’d have a real friend,” she says, smiling. “And then you’re… you’re not just my best friend, but you’re… like me.”

You frown. “I’m like you? Like. What are you talking about?”

Moriah smiles. “I’m a demon too, Sierra.”

And then she flickers.

The skin on her face fades and disappears completely, as does the muscle beneath it. You’re face to face with gaunt, skull-like face that resembles Moriah, though only in traces. She still has her hair, but a notable addition is that she’s got horns. Two pointy, thin straight horns that jut right out of her forehead and straight up about a foot.
>>
>>33264615

Her eyes are recessed in dark flesh, deep within the sockets; though they retain the same look that you’ve grown accustomed to since you’ve known her. Her nose is gone, and the where it would have been is just and empty hole, which turns into a split in the bone that continues down to the top of her mouth. Her teeth are razor sharp, and her bony jaw is split in the middle into independent mouth-part mandible kinds of things. Sinewy cords of skinless muscle holds her mouth together, and the same kind of flesh composes her exposed neck, which is thinner than it was with the illusion in place.

Her look reminds you of a fluffy cat after you douse it with water. Skeletal and thinner than natural.

Her jaw mandible things shift slightly when she speaks, and you you can see flashes of the inside of her mouth and teeth in a way that’s completely alien to you. That’s just not how humans talk. “I’m a hellion,” she says, a gravelly, watery quality to her voice that you’ve never heard before.

“That’s… different,” you say, still shocked by her sudden metamorphosis.

Wolfgang grins. “We’re both hellions,” he says.

And I bet Wolfgang's blood tastes like magic, which makes him an even better husbando than before.

I wonder if the hint of "waterfall" we smelled when we first met him was from him being a Hellion.

I'm guessing Papa C isn't a Hellion, though he could just be really good at hiding it instead of being a mortal magician.

I think Moriah is pretty innocent for being a demon, judging how she reacted to Beatrice and her cronies. Imagine all the questions we're going to ask Moriah about being a demon, and how she'll react when she learns about the more extreme stuff we've done.

Or she might look up to us and think we're soooo cool because we've actually been out and doing real demon things, like rampages and killing but on the side of the good guys.

We're not even sure she's in lesbians with us. She might be, but we're pretty much her only friend, and she just found out she doesn't have to hide what she is from us, it's not surprising that she got emotional over this even without taking any potential lesbosity into account.

Also, Sierra isn't a lesbian and Wolfgang is totally hot. I think Moriah will understand, and be alright with us as a sister-in-law and best friend.

Besides, this just means we can set her up with Rowan.

I was thinking about doing one, but I don't even on this. I'm just going to wait and hope Languid does one of his little pic things like he's been making for Sierra.
>>

>might not know better.
Maybe, but I think it's way more likely that it's a one-drop type deal going on.

I mean, yeah, you could call a half black half white kid mulatto, but most people will just call em black.
>>
>>33265497
I'd totally do it if I had more skill. Maybe in a year.

Laguid should totally do that tiny pic thing for Moriah, yeah.

Only with more darkness and less fire.

And this is what I imagine mother dearest looked like when she was glamored.

>tfw when you've been avoiding your friend, because she's super awesome and you've been lying to her and keeping something secret

>tfw when you get dragged to a party by your older brother in the midst of that

>tfw when you get a text from your bro saying to meet him in the lot, it's super important.

>...tfw when you find that one of your best friends in the whole world just so happens to have the same secret as you.

I don't think the Hallows know that Magister's whole family is demons. How would Isaac think of that?
>>
>>33266498
He'd probably try to fucking adopt them our something.
>>
>>33267401
Adopting Papa Crowther.

That would be weird as fuck.
>>
>>33267473
Well, you know Old Man Hallow. All crazy paternal about hell-things. Adopting demonic murderers straight off the street just to start.
>>
Yuropoor at work here. I'm not disappointed in the lack of makeouts.

Well, maybe we'll kiss some skull on Wednesday.
>>
>>33265706
They had those split jaws though, didn't they?
>>
>>33269026
Basically, start with a naked skull.

Add two short, straight horns.

Sharpen the teeth.

Split the jaw into two separate bones, instead of one.

And add in raw sinew holding it all together.

That's a hellion.

I assume the rest of their bodies also tend to feature naked bone being held together with raw sinew/muscle, but that's just an assumption.

It's been established repeatedly that Sierra does not pack tacos or clean pearls. She deals strictly with woodwork.

>Wolfgang is totally hot
Muh fucking nugguh right here. Wolfgang Superior, all other husbandos inferior.
>>
>>33269087
Only one way to find out.
>>
>>33271405
Ask?
>>
I'm betting Papa Crow was a loyalist to our mother
>>
>>33272956
Okay two ways.

Look it up in a demonology textbook?
>>
>>33273245
Exactly.
