You are Lord William Bordain, Lord of Morderengrad and the Norther Valley. Some call you the Iron Lord, as your wealth flows from the arms and armor you sell, and your demeanor is as unflinching and cold as castle-forged steel. Other have taken to calling you “The Grey Giant”, in reference to your great size, less-than-warm demeanor, and your recent marriage to House Tollett of Grey Glen.

You are a Lord by right of Murder, having slain the Targaryen children in the Sack of King’s Landing. After years of solitary brooding, you decided to rejoin the greater world. You brought order to your lands, unveiled a traitor, and wedded the lady Alyssa Tollet, who now bears your child.

Which means that you have a legacy to forge for your future child. You will not leave your flesh and blood without care or resources, and so you have dived into the management of your lands and holdings, to procure a bright future for yourself and your children. But storm clouds darken the horizon. Tywin Lannister has asked that you seek to supplant Jon Arryn, your liege lord, as Hand of The King. Further, Oberyn Martell has crossed you, and this you will not let go unpunished.

When last we left off, you had recently been assaulted by bandits, who sought your mother for reasons unknown. You were entertained at the Eyrie, seeking to ingratiate yourself to the Lord Arryn. Petyr Baelish, Harbormaster, had proposed a new business venture. And you hunted with your father and father in law.

You have spent 3 days enjoying the fruits of that hunt. Roast Venison marinated in port, and served with gooseberry sauce. Thick spiced stews of venison and beans. Diced smoked venison with your morning eggs

You are beginning to hate venison,

Culinary qualms aside, your life is, for the moment, enjoyable. You will be happier when Dewall returns from the Eyrie, his wounds tended by Jon Arryn's Maester Coleman.

At present, you have a few days before the monthly reports arrive, with a record of your holdning's fortunes this month. You reflect on recent events as you grudgingly eat your kippered venison. You're not even sure you can kipper things that aren't fish, and suspect your cooks are making things up just to see if you'll eat them. But that's not what most grabs your thoughts for the moment, no, that honor goes to:

>Baelish's proposal.
>Your need to visit other lords
>Your wife's pregnancy
>Tywin's plans, and your role in them
>Granaries to help your people endure winter.

Posted, I might as well chip in.
We need to design our own Dreadnaught Armour. A category heaviery than even plate, it would be too heavy and encumbering to be worn without a mastery of heavy armour, luckily our song of Iron or whatever treats armour forged from our metal effectively 1 category lighter, so we'd be wearing it like full-plate.

I propose 2 Dreadnaught suits, the general combat variant, which is basically super-heavy full plate, and a jousting variant, where most of the armour would be on the front, with at the expense of weaker armour on the sides and back.

>Baelish's proposal.
That's the dredging thing that would wind up killing the fish, right? Pass.

>Your wife's pregnancy
>Tywin's plans, and your role in them

I forget the rules on that, so I'd like to hear what Page says about it first.

Though the idea of heavy jousting armor sounds bad, really. The armor for a fight is good.
>>
>>33212541

Well last time he said it was okay, IIRC
As for the heavy jousting armour, really? I thought that Jousting armour was already heavier and more frontal focused than regular plate, this would just be more so.

>>33212642
Well we were forced into fighting our own tournament thanks to King Douchebag Baratheon, and we came off rather poorly from it. Wanna make sure that's covered if his royal fatness tries to get us involved again.

Wait, nevermind, I was reading through le archives, and our Artisan Blacksmith is already forging it, nvm then.
>>
>>33212765

I thought we did fairly well to be honest. Jousting doesn't really seem to be the MC's preferred style and he still did well against Wilas.

All of them it is.

Your plate (for all that it is slowly clearing of vension) is certainly fuller than you like. Once, you were a simple squire, whose greatest concern was the cleanliness of Lord Tywin's armor. Now, you face a multitude of issues.

Petyr Baelish, and the other Lords of the Vale spring to mind. You rejected Petyr's first proposal, as your wife noticed the potential damage the dredging could inflict on the fisherman who feed your towns. His second proposal, of using the Lynderlys to chain your shipments to port, has been less clear-cut. All advice you've received agreed: it would work if you could trust the Lynderlys, Baelish, and your newly hired Doma, your Pentoshi Merchant Captain. The trouble is, you don't KNOW the Lynderlys. Of all the neighboring Lords, you personally know only Tollet, and Bellweather you have a passing familiarity with, given the trial of...last year? Good lord, how time has flown. But, Lord Arryn says you should make an effort to meet more Lords, that you might overcome your grim reputation.

Travel would have to be done soon, though, as your wife's pregnancy would disallow such jaunts in a few month's time, and it is well known that your wife's presence does help warm the coolness of your speech and manner. You are still mildly disbelieving of her condition, and the prospect of being a father. You remember you should make a note to Maester Arban to prepare whatever is needed to help your wife's pregnancy, and the eventual birth.

Thinking of enduring, while at the Eyrie, you considered the idea of fortified granaries, in case the winter grows cold enough to freeze the river, and to prevent any enemy fleets from cutting off your food. You should consult with your architect, and Korbis, if such a thing can be done, and how swiftly.

>>
>>33212813
It's not that we did poorly, but more the fact we did poorly *and* we were forced into participating that has me worried.

I'd love to stay out of tournaments, but that only works if the king lets us actually stay out of them.

The cost shouldn't be overmuch, since while a custom suit of plate is expensive, it still only *one* suit. Not to mention we're pretty much the biggest forgers of arms and armour in westeros, so we'd get it cheaper than anywhere.
>>
>>33212896
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/23743919/#p23747300
Also we're a very good jouster, it's just that we're a freaking monster on foot with our crowbill.
>>
>>33212896

Well, that's my point. I don't think we did poorly at all. Top 3 is pretty decent consider the caliber of knights in the tournament.

If we can get some sweet jousting armor without it being a burden on other important priorities, then yes I can support that
>>
>>33213042
I'm just terrified we'll be forced into a tournament against Oberyn "I go through poisons quicker than Robert through whores." Martell.
>>
>>33212865

Also, your Painted Dog Tribesmen need further help developing their towns and other holdings, so it looks like your architect will be quite busy for the next few months.

Lastly, and perhaps most worryingly, is your recent talk with Tywin Lannister at your wedding. He asks you to suborn Jon Arryn, your liege lord, in Robert's trust, and, if possible, make yourself Hand of The King. Tywin holds it is the only way to keep Robert from spending every last cent the realm has. You have, in pursuit of this goal, made yourself an ever-growing friend of Jon Arryn, and a frequent visitor to his court. The deceit rankles you, and the more you associate with him, the more the idea niggles at your conscience. But no one has ever said you could not do what needed to be done.

You realize you haven't taken a bite of food in some time, and in fact are staring blankly at your plate, cleared now of venison and eggs, with only some toasted brown bread with butter left on the side. Gods know how long you've been sitting there like that. Or, you note with a start, how long your wife has been leaning against the doorframe, watching you with something that looks halfway between bemusement and concern.

"Breakfast particularly engrossing today, my Lord?" she notes with a gentle smile, crossing to the table. "What sends my husband's mind so far afield?"

>Answer?

>>33212642
As a young Lord with a reputation for skill at arms? It's either that or the melee, realistically at any tournament you show up at. And the joust is more high class.

You know the only Lord noted for his lack of tournament attendance? Ned Stark. That ended well.

>>33212993
>>33212754
>>33212765
You are currently making the Dreadnought Armor, and yes, you are actually a "Trained" Jouster. You could level your average hedge knight in a single pass.

You, however, jousted Willas Tyrell, who has something like 6 dice in Jousting.

It's Less "You're bad at Jousting" and more "You lost at arm wrestling Thor"
>>

>>
>>33213144
Let's bring up the Lynderlys first, since that's time sensitive.
>>
>>33213447

Seconded.

And I think we should try to be diplomatic towards Lord Bellmore, too.

Lack of communication and familiarity with neighbors nearly brought near-war to us, so let's try to get to know them better.

Plus we might show that we're nice and reasonable, despite our cold reputation.
>>
>>33213237
Eddard Stark did not attend. But that's not hugely surprising: Eddard has not left The North since the Rebellion. His lands are vast, and his children quite young. His son Robb is 5 now, Sansa nearing her second name-day.

>>33213237
>>33213247
"No farther afield than my worries, which seem to span the world." You reply to her question.

You lay out your thoughts on the coming events and issues: your desire to protect your children, and your people, your need to meet other Lords of the Vale, especially the Lynderlys, so you can decide on Lord Baelish's offer, bit by bit you lay out your worries, and eventually ask for her wisdom.

Your wife chuckles, a touch of sadness to it. "My Lord, one day you will learn that no matter how much steel you put in it, you cannot build a shield for the world. Nor one against it."
"Korbis will see the constructions started, and your workers will no doubt do you proud. That is no great worry."
"Further, do not trouble yourself with my condition. I am a woman, not a doll. I have already spoken with Maester Arban, and we are already making necessary preparations. If you wish to be useful in that regard, maybe you should find things to furnish a child's room with."
"Send a raven, and see when the Lynderlys can receive us. I doubt I will bloat to the point of uselessness until a hand of months have passed. "I cannot speak to the worry and pain you feel with Arryn. That is a regrettable situation, and one that would test any man's loyalty and resolve. Do what you think right."

With that, she kisses your brow.

"Now, you do have other advisors, my lord, and no doubt they would like some of your time as well."

Quick errand done, back to the quest.

You rise, and kiss your wife back.

"I suppose I must give it to them, then."

With your wife, you leave your solar. You proceed down to meet Korbis, Arban, and your other captains.

In the past, you all met in your solar, but your maester suggested that you should probably keep your work out of your leisure rooms, lest you never gain a moment's rest again. So your captains found and re-purposed a room. You arrive to see all the familiar faces:

Grell, your taciturn head of your guerilla fighters. He is sketching out something on a piece of parchment, unheeding of the rest of the room's conversations.

Egar, Head of your Personal Guard, the Bloodsmiths, a vast wall of a man, who is laughing at some joke, his ample lungs filling the room with his booming laugh.

Maester Arban, whose still flourished arm indicates he was the teller of the joke, as his dark skin and robes mark him of Dorne. You still don't know the man too well, but his skills have been invaluable.

Finn, the Head of your Infantry, is snickering at the joke, hiding his amusement behind a calloused hand. Of all the captains, Finn is the youngest, and from his hair, eyes, and general demeanor, most suspect him of being some form of Lannister bastard. Though you've never seen a Lannister as happy as Finn.

Merrick, the Castellan, and head of Morderengrad's Garrison, coughs into a silken hankerchief, though whether in distaste or more controlled mirth, you can't tell.

Finally, your old captain and now Steward, For Korbis. Perhaps the third closest thing you have to a father. (Second if you count 'affection' and 'human emotions' higher than 'imbuing with wisdom and skill'.) First, of course, being your father.

All of them rise to attention at your entrance.

>>33214426

You pre-empt any kowtowing or bowing, you're still not at ease accepting such acts, with a brisk, though jovial demand.

"Gentlemen, I will need a quill and some parchment, as I have need to send some ravens. One to the Lynderlys, for I need to start meeting some of my neighbors, and apparently these ones can help me make some money. Second, I must send a letter to Lord Eddard, to congratulate him on his daughter's coming nameday. Alyssa, you know noble lady's tastes, could you get a suitable gift for the girl?"
Your wife nods, as you take your seat at the table, and the rest do likewise.

"Now, gentlemen, let's talk about our home."

Artisan Blacksmith, Artisan Architect
Accountant
Blacksmith’s Guild
Mason’s Guild
Port
-Dock, Tower (under construction, 4 years, 11 months remain)
Gold Mine
- Foreman.

>>33215078
Oh, yeah, sure.

Defense is military holdings in your territory. Castles, Towers, etc. You have 5 free, having invested in a Castle, Two Towers, and a fortified town.

Influence is your general level of 'importance' in the realm. Right now, you're about "Mormont" tier.

Lands are a measure of your workable/usable lands. You can found new towns, or build roads, etc.

Law is a measure of the orderliness of your region. Your current Law means that crime is rare in your region. (to the other guy's question, it's 51 for the next tier.)

Population is essentially population and population DENSITY. How tightly packed your people are as well as how many. Yours is "modest", a few small towns, maybe 5,000 souls all told.

Power is aggressive military holdings. Your standing troops, ships, etc.

Wealth is...well, yeah. Money.

Speaking of power, here's your current army roster:

1 Elite Personal Guard
1 Elite Guerillas
1 Elite Special
1 Elite Cavalry
2 Elite Infantry (t)
1 Elite Archers (t)
1 Veteran Infantry 2
1 Veteran Garrison 2
2 Green Infantry 12
1 Trained Support 4
Fieldable strength: 940 men

Small note, the entire force of the Vale is, canonically, 45,000 troops. You command over 2% of the overall forces of the Vale.

DID SOMEONE ASK FOR A PASTEBIN?
This is actually for Wealth holdings.
http://pastebin.com/46BLMQ3M
>>
>>33215078
Okay, defence is like fortifications, Castles, forts and shit.

Influence is how well known you are, you can use it to buy heirs, and trade it for I think, can convert to Law at 1:1 ratio.

Lands, increase the size and quality of your holdings, adding more acerage, rivers, mountains, town, ect all take land.

Law: Makes your lands run smoother and more efficient, I guess.

Population density, not actual numbers. Too low and too high both have drawbacks, See the North or King's landing. Converts to Power 1:1

Power: Your military, allows you to recruit units/navies. Converts to Influence, Law and Population 1:1

Wealth, used to buy shit, improvements, host tourneys, it's fucking MONEY, I shouldn't have to explain this. Converts to *any* resource at 2:1

Note that converting resources takes a few months, you can rush buy it instantly, but increases the cost a step. (IE 1:1 becomes 2:1, 2:1 becomes 3:1)

Here's a list of shit we can buy.http://pastebin.com/46BLMQ3M
>>
>>33215295

Alright, let's invest 1 in Wealth since that's really versatile.

I guess the other one we use to invest in Influence. Tywin's plan is for us to take over Jon Arryn's reigns, right? Having some Influence could help in that regard in case we need to call in favors from other nobles.

Jewler is a synergy benefit, since we only have gold, a jewler has the same benefit as a habourmaster, or 2x as much is smelter synergizes with it.

Now the question is, does a harbourmaster provide a boost to ports? Otherwise it's a rather static benifit, that doesn't really benifit from having a large port. (Which makes *no* freaking sense at all.)

I concur with the fortified granary, we'll need one eventually.
>>

Offhand, I would say any population loss would be reduced by 1, 2 if the cause is explicitly starvation. Fortifiying it would prevent it from being raided more easily, and show the people you are focused on their protection, giving a small bonus to law. However, there'd be a slowly increasing chance that the granary would run out, unless re-stocked.

I'm thinking I'm going to have the merchant give bonuses to influence that scales with your ports, showing how your market connections make you more important.

And the accountant...ooh, I know what he'll do.

Good.

So, just to clarify, can I get a quick vote between jewellers and granary?

I think you may be slightly overestimating our aquatic presence.

Look at this map. You see that weird dude with the knife, upper left? That's you. Yes, you have a direct river route to the ocean, but you're still fairly inland. Like, 50 miles. So like, Northern Lousiana on the Mississippi.

But the votes seem to speak for Granaries, so you have your men carry it out. You send a rider up to the town, and have them inform Killian that you'll want his architectural skill to design fortified granaries, and you send word to the masons as well.

They say it'll take about 2 months to set up, and it'll cost you 3 Wealth and 1 Defense

After that, your letters go flying off, your wife picks a gift for Sansa, and you receive a surprise Raven: Lord Belmore wishes you to visit. You recall that, a month ago, before the bandits, and the visit to the Eyrie, you had written him, because he seemed to know something about your gold mine.

All told, a trip to Belmore's lands would take about 2-3 days to reach his home. And, you note, it would place you closer if the Lynderlys agree to see you.

Nothing like technical errors to screw things up.

Anyway, you send a raven back saying you'd be delighted. You invite your wife along, though she expresses some minor objections.

Again, the last time you two were together...he gave you a bunch of silver bells for your wedding. BUT BEFORE THAT. There was some violence. And a trial! It was all very...loud.

Nonetheless, you resolve to see your neighbor, and see what he has to say.

More of a fretting than real objections. Your connection with Belmore was initially quite hostile, and happened on the day you got betrothed, and there was a suicide...

It's more that she just doesn't have very good thoughts about that time.

I'm upset, because I think Belmore talked to you some more in Song of Iron and Hate part 6, which didn't get archived, so I'm only vaguely remembering what he said.

>>33217351
The ride is peaceful. The road between you and Belmore has been, you hear, since you nailed up those bandits along the border. Men tend to quiet down when speaking up gets you crucified.

The weather is pleasant enough, and your wife is fine company.

In time, you come to Strongsong, home of the Belmores. It's...slightly sickening. Militarily, the only thing that makes it a passable castle is that it's isolated, and the roads to it are narrow. Otherwise, this was clearly built, or at least, remodeled, to be a 'noble keep', or 'stalwart redoubt'. This is the kind of castle that shows up in stories with Children of the Forest, and Targaryens with impossibly long hair.

You suspect Benedar Belmore is more a man of appearances than usefulness.

Still, you cannot deny the view of the nearby lakes is quite good, or that the Serpentwood is not lush here.

But if anyone walks by in a Red Hood, you're going home.

As you and your company ride up, you see the gate guar- By the Seven, he stations guards WITH HALBERDS OUTSIDE his castle gate.

For fuck's sake, if the man keeps a "kindly wizard" on his staff, you're coming back and burning this place to the ground.

"Who goes there?" The guard asks, indifferently.

"No one, lackwit." You snap, your temper roused by the saccharine nature of this place. "Since no one's leaving, but LORD WILLIAM BORDAIN just CAME. HERE."

A chuckle from your wife makes you slightly regret your phrasing. The guard perks up, adjusting his mail and tabard, seeming slightly shamed by your tone.

"Beg your pardon, My Lord, We did not expect you so soon. You were expected on the 6th, my lord."

"It is the 6th."

The ensuing pause makes you sadly aware that the fellow before you may not be able to count. Or, more generously, he's just currently hung over. In any case, it is a day's worth of awkward in about 20 seconds.

Red-faced, the youth begins again.

"S-s-So it is, mm-m-milord. I'll go ge-get the greeting party."

You feel slightly bad for the boy, so your tone softens as you call after him. "Boy, what's your name?"

"S-Sammy, my lord."

"Is there a place we can stable our horses while we wait?"

"OH! Um, yes, um. My Lord. Mikal can show you."

The other guard, who has almost exploded with laughter, inclines his head in something like respect, or simple acquiescence, before leading you to some stables.

As you wait, your wife turns to you.
"So, what're you going to say? And was I supposed to pick out a gift, or did you?"

Finally catch up. About Belmore I remember that last time we were talking about gifting him a beautiful suit of armor with the sigil of his house in the chest. Something in the same style to the spears we gave Oberyn and our father-in-law. Trying to make it our "thing" to give personalize gifts to our neighbors/allies/whoever and building up our openhanded reputation we started on our wedding.

You look sideways at your wife, a slight smirk on your face.

"I did function before I married you, dear."

"I met you back then. You functioned, you didn't work."

You tilt your head in acknowledgement.

"Fair enough. But trust me, making metal is EASY for my people."

Your whispered conference ends as Benedar Belmore comes out to greet you, a small band of family members and courtiers with him, His wild red hair and beard like a torch of his coming presence.

"My Lord William, welcome! So good to see you again, my boy!"

As ever, he's loud, though at least at the moment it's appropriate, as he still had about 20 feet to close the distance between you.

"How was the journey, William?"

"Fair, my lord. A warm and peaceful journey. You know my wife, Lady Alyssa." You say, stepping to the side.

"A pleasure, my Lord," she says.

"The pleasure is mine, my dear. I was ever so pleased to be invited me to your wedding, despite the actions of my vassal."

Seizing the opportunity, you lean in.

"Let us think no more of that time, Lord Benedar. In fact, I have prepared a gift, to thank you for this chance to get over the unpleasantness of our first encounter."

At a signal, your men bring forth a lacquered set of Steel plate, made in the lord's colors. The purple is broad and deep, the silver highlights like fish leaping from the depths of the sea.

"A princely gift, My Lord WIlliam!" He exclaims. "I see you even made it to my size!"

"I have an eye for arms and armor, my lord." You chuckle.

"That you must. I hope to draw your eye to some prettier prizes, my lord. But come, you are my guest. Name what you wish, and we shall do it."

"Let us eat first, Lord Benedar. We have been on the Road a few days, and could do with some refreshment."

He nods his head, happy you chose something that wouldn't demand too much of him. He waves forward a steward, who carries a loaf of brown bread and the standard bowl of salt.

"First, a small snack, Lord WIlliam, and then to the feast proper!"

You and your wife, as well as a few of the Bloodsmiths, partake of his bread and salt, sealing the compact of peace for this visit.

"Excellent, then let our guests be brought to the Great Hall!"

Belmore's Great Hall is nothing to sneeze at. Yes, it's a little overwrought by your ascetic standards. The varnished dark woods, the overstuffed chairs, the table for at least 30. The minor scuffs, wear spots, and nicks tell you that this room had probably been used for decades by his entire family.

You sit, prepared for a feast, and Belmore does not disappoint.

The first course is shellfish from the coast. Oysters served with Spiced vinegar. The vinegar cuts some of the oysters' slime, and plays with the sweet wine of the course.

The second course they called "rafts" consisting of smoked fish, at least 3 different kinds, with a variety of breads, as well as sauces. Mustard, Butter, a few reductions here and there, a spiced jam. You built your own little 'raft' of fish and suace on bread. You yourself went with a smoked fish on beer bread, with a treacle and cinnamon sauce.

Next, they left the raft materials out, but brought out hot soup. The broth was light, but flavorful. You'd never had its kind before, and Lord Belmore explained it was made of onions, cooked until browned, deglazed with wine, cooked until the wine was gone, then deglazed again with chicken broth, cooked down again, and finally deglazed with beef broth. You sopped the broth with rafts.

Next came baked lake trout, in a striking sauce. The trout was supposedly caught and killed just that morning, and the sauce...well, it was truly more like 5 sauces, each a different color, each spread over a section of the fish before it was cooked. The effect was of a rainbow one could eat.

Fifth, came a leg of mutton, boiled in a brine of peppercorns, mustard seed, bay leaves, allspice, and juniper for several hours, until it was soft and pliable. It was served with a mash of turnips, and a brown gravy.

And on and on it went, ten courses in all, a mountain of food. If this is how Lord Benedar ate, no wonder he was growing spherical in shape.

By the end, (tubular pastries, with a center of soft cheese with citrus inside) you were beginning to sway, your vision clouding. No battle had ever demanded as much of your internal fortitude as that meal. If you could rise to go to bed, you would be surprised, and It was not yet sundown!

"legit"? No. But I do have a food "blog" I write (insanely sporadically), and my 4 big hobbies are theatre, RPGs, reading, and cooking, so I spend a lot of time with words and food. Personally, I consider some of it cheating, since, for instance, the second course is just a Westeros version of Smorgasbord, the third is French Onion Soup, and the dessert is Cannolis. But if you never stop and think about what's IN food, it seems really impressive.

You rouse yourself from your impending food coma, and gesture to Benedar.
"My lord, this is all incredible, and any time you wish to host me, I will come. But maybe I'll fast first next time."

He laughs at the joke as you continue.

"Now that our bodies are sated, shall we discuss business?"

He grins a little. "Ever to business with you, boy. That's what I hear. No patience except where steel is concerned." He waves off your attempted protest. "No, no, it's fine in a man your age. You're still quick and fiery, the years don't weigh on you like they do on us old men, slowing us. Well, come little lightning lord, and we'll talk business."

His words border on offense, but they're spoken with the tone of an indulgent uncle. You decide to swallow any outrage (though you're so full it may not fit easily) and join him in his solar.

The first thing you notice is the colors. The room is awash in reds, greens, and blues. You glance up to find the source and...

By the Seven.

It's...a chandelier. If you can call it that. It's a ball, larger than your head, of gems. You see emeralds, rubies, tourmaline, amethyst.

That block must be worth a small keep, and he hangs it to reflect light.

AS you look at it, you realize something: These are bad gems. They have cracks, cloudiness, visible impurities, occlusions.

"If nothing else, it says "here's more gems than you'll ever see. Even if that they aren't good ones." You finish, turning to look at Belmore.

"No, they aren't. Not that half the Lords who see it don't go praising the craftsmanship. No, I made these out of cast-offs. Gems that were deemed too poor to sell to nobility. I keep it for the colors. And the lessons. Just because a thing won't sell, doesn't mean it isn't beautiful. And, the easiest way to find an idiot is to let him tell you."
"You're not an idiot, Lord William. So let me speak to you. You have Gold. I have gems. And some of the most skilled jewelers in the world. I suspect that you're thinking of bring jewelers to your lands. And that's fine. BUT, I think it would serve us both better to make a deal."

He gestures again to his ball.

"Gems are all well and good, but they need a set. something to hold them. Gold is fine as a coin, but as decoration, it lacks flair. So why seek your own jewelers, haggle with their guilds, when you can just sell to mine?"

He pauses.

"OF course, such things are not to be resolved in a moment. Think on it. Consult with your maester, and your businessmen. FInd the proper course. But I think we could make something wondrous, Bordain."
