Voiced Intro(Kudos to Voiceanon and Sonlee for this): http://vocaroo.com/i/s1Grk05b6F0v

Your name is Michael Dunkin, and you now work for the Inquisition. Previously you were a sergeant in the 291st Cadian Shock Troopers, but now you find yourself in the company of Inquisitor Christina Massey of the Ordos Xenos. After saving her life at the cost of your men and your life (the old one, at least), you've been officially proclaimed a dead hero and recruited into her retinue. Now, with your new life and future in her hands, you're tasked with looking after Christina's well being. And whatever else that entails.

You've finally received details on what you've been hired to do for the sympathizers, and it's about as simple and easy as you expected. Assaulting a complex full of angry and drug-fueled gangers in an attempt to get back stolen xeno weaponry. While Christina looks more into House Brice and those around it, you begin gathering your team. Alpha is the obvious choice, and with Vincent's help you rather easily fill the roster. Now, after waiting for the Commander's men to scout out the place, you sit down and begin to iron out a plan.

You gather with Roxy and Vincent in the meeting room you found yourself in before hitting Dwimos. Pictures and notes lay scattered about the tables, detailing various points of entry and interest of the ganger complex.

"Not bad, for a bunch of ganger shits," Vincent notes. "Around thirty to forty guys inside, all lookin real mean. They keep a few people in sentry duty day and night, though half the time they're too drugged or drunk to notice anything. During the day they send out people, some armed with xeno tech, and at night they come back with whatever they managed to steal. Looks like they keep the weapons in an armory of sorts near the center of the complex. Way I see it, a night approach is going to get us the most weapons."

"And the most gangers if things go south. Not that I'm saying we can't take them. Looks like just one main entrance here, with the big metal doors," Roxy adds, leaned back in her chair. "They look sturdy enough, but I'd like to see it take on half of what we're packing."

"There's a sewer system running beneath it. We could come up from below if you can stomach the smell," Vincent grins. "Though, who knows what calls home down there."

"It's gonna be hard to get the weapons if they're under a pile of rubble," You say, and Roxy gives a thoughtful shrug. "Though the unknown in the sewer isn't sounding particularly good either."

"Well, the Lady put you in charge, so this is your show," Vincent says. "What's it gonna be, Mikkey? Knock down the front door, or take the quiet route?"

"I've never really been one for discretion," You chuckle. "Why start now?"

Vincent almost looks disappointed, but Roxy seems pleased. With that settled, you go about putting down the details.

The main idea is something you all agree on: go in and get out, quick and dirty. The Antebellum has a number of vehicles, mainly consisting of Chimeras and Tauros'. The former was protection over speed, while the latter was the opposite.

>Chimera.
>Tauros.

After getting inside the complex itself, it was a matter of half the team keeping the gangers at bay while the other half found and loaded up the weapons. The person leading each half would be responsible for keeping their people on target and moving.

>Did you lead the protection or loading detail?
>Does Vincent or Roxy lead the other detail?

Finally, it comes to your attention that the sympathizers had, if you chose the direct approach, offered help. At the expense of a portion of the discount you were working for, they would lend you two specialists. Who and what they specialized in was a mystery, however, and you're not sure Delmar would appreciate having to pay more for whatever deal he'd brokered.

>Take the help.
>Decline it.

After what feels like an eternity of squabbling over details you eventually finalize your plan. Chimeras for transport, with yourself leading the protection detail, choosing Vincent to lead the looting team, and declining the extra help. You note, with quiet interest, the mixture of relief and disappointment that passes over Roxy's face when you give command to Vincent.

"So that's that?" Vincent asks, and you nod. "Good. Though next time, Mikkey, try to keep things stable. You tell me you want quiet people, and now we're going in for an assault. Now I gotta tell my people the news, and they'll be all sorts of disappointed..."

He's joking, for the most part, but you give a sheepish laugh all the same.

"Sorry," You say. "Will there be a problem?"

"Nah. Just a bit of extra time spent that I could have used drinking, smoking, or something else equally productive."

"Are we finally done?" Roxy asks, standing from her chair and stretching. "No offense, but my ass fell asleep a while ago."

>Say something else. (What?)

"Hey yourself," She returns, arching a brow. "What's up?"

"Do you want the protection detail?"

"Huh?" Her eyes go wide. "But you-"

"-can coordinate between you and Vincent. Multitask," You shrug.

Like before, a hesitance returns, though this time not even trying to be hidden.

"I..." She looks to the floor.

"Ow!" You chuckle, rubbing your arm. "What was that for?"

She mutters something you don't catch, but moves on before you can tease her. "Alright, alright. If you're okay with it... I'll do it."

"Well, that depends on why you ask," She says.

"I was thinking of shooting something," You shrug. "Was wondering if you might be interested."

Your answer seems to surprise her, but she seems pleased by the prospect.

"Alright. Let's see if you can actually hit something this time," She teases.

You both make your way down to the training yard, where a number of similarly-minded armsmen are also practicing. You and the Sergeant take the same shooting lane as before.

"You go first," Roxy suggests, grinning. "Set the bar for us."

"Won't be much of a contest if the winner goes first," You say.

"Uh huh," She snorts. "Step up and start missing, already."

Moving into place with rifle in hand, you shoulder the weapon and nod to Roxy. She smacks the console, and a horn blares.

"Go on," You sigh.

"Why go on?" She smirks. "I already called it."

"Well," You say. "That's all the proof I need."

Roxy looks confused for several seconds before realization clicks. Then she turns an interesting shade of red and quickly crosses her arms over her chest.

"Pig!" She scowls.

"Are we going to throw around insults or fists?" You ask, and she hesitantly removes her arms.

With that you both take a stance begin circling the ring. It's just a little bit difficult to concentrate, considering your new view, but you try your best.

You both meet in a storm of fists and feet, having been more or less taught the same fighting style. Too bad for her, you've learned more than a few tricks in your career. Not the most honorable tricks, admittedly, but ones that get the job done.

After several minutes of sparring you've both worked up a good sweat, but it feels good to finally have a serious fight after so long. And then, just like that, it's over. You sweep the Sergeant off her feet with a leg, and before she can recover you're on top of her and pinning her to the ground.

You meet her glare with your typical grin, but after a moment her expression softens. The only sound is that of both of you trying to catch your breath.

Then she shoves you off and you land next to her with a thud.

"I'm gonna feel this shit tomorrow," She grumbles as she leans up, then smiles at you. "Nice moves, though."

"We're one for one now," You chuckle. "Don't be such a sore loser."

"We'll see," She says. "This just means we're gonna have to have a tie-breaker."

With that you both part ways, and before long you're on your way to the armory. You arrive shortly after, and after a brief conversation with the still-yet-unseen Tony, you're let inside. The typical number of people are inside, with Cachino sitting next to a table laden with parts, reading from a dataslate. However, as you enter he firmly sets his eyes on you.

"Uh huh," Cachino grunts. "What do you want?"

"I was wondering if I could get a new piece of gear or two," You answer.

"What?" He snorts. "You survive one mission and you think that's enough?"

You're not quite sure how to respond, but before you even can the older man sighs.

"I'm gonna regret this, but what were you even looking to get?" He asks.

We have a Hellgun; maybe some mods? And lots of grenades! If we're storming the place, we may as well do it right. Suppression sounds like what we need.
>>
>>33193114

"The more important question would be what do YOU have?" You ask, trying to be friendly.

"More than you need to know about," Cachino answers.

"Alright... something that'll help put a bunch of holes in a whole lot of gangers," You venture. "Something heavy?"

"I won't have it blamed on ME when YOU blow up the Inquisitor. Put the hellgun on full auto. It'll put as many holes as you need."

This obviously isn't going well. You decide to try something smaller.

"How about something to improve my aim?" You chuckle nervously. "Right now I'm sitting at Emperor-damned Ork standards here."

That actually makes the man stop and consider. Though, after a while, you suspect he's doing it mainly to drag the whole thing out.

"I might have something," He says. "But it won't be free."

"I have money-"

"-and so do I. What I want is something neither one of us can afford."

"...what are we talking about here?"

"Captain Delmar keeps a serious stockpile of amasec and other things locked away in a storage room on the upper levels. Your level, to be specific. He won't get through half of it, at the rate he drinks. Don't think he'd mind if a bottle or two came up missing. You get me that, I'll get you your weapon mod."

You're not sure if he's serious at first, but his expression is as bemused as always.

"Fair enough," Cachino nods. "I'll be here. Now, get on. Before you end up breaking something."

The Sergeant-at-Arms ushers you out of his armory, and with having actually gotten him to budge you don't cause any fuss over it. Once out, you decide to...

You decide to track down the good Captain and see what he's up to. Making your way back to the upper levels, you ask around until you're pointed to his dining hall. Entering, however, you are greeted by an interesting sight.

Ever dressed in gold, the Captain is pacing back and forth down the table. His arms are nearly constantly moving in dramatic movements while an obviously overtaxed crewman types away at a dataslate.

"-and once atop the beast, I held on for my life! With my rifle gone, I had only- Michael!" He notices you almost immediately, twirling around to fully face you. He jumps from the table with flourish, and the crewman gives you a grateful look as he puts down the dataslate and flexes his hands.

The crewman looks horrified at this suggestion, but Delmar waves it away.

"Bah," He sighs. "If I forced him to work much longer without pause, I might have to actually pay him for his efforts. Besides, I always have time for you, my friend. How can I be of service?"

"I may have heard you have some top of the line amasec bottles lying around," You shrug casually. "What would a certain Inqusitors bodyguard have to do to acquire 2 or 3 bottles?"

The Captain lets out an amused chuckle, and he seems to look you over. Then he grins and your gut warns of trouble.

"You once showed me your skill and love of the arts," He said. "A gift such as yours must be shown to the world, my friend. I need someone of your skill."

"A private concert?" You ask, trying to mask your unease.

"Not quite," Delmar says. "There is to be a banquet at the end of this month. A number of fine men and women, much like myself. I promised to provide several things. Good food, drink... and music. You would be paid in more than amasec, of course. I am greedy, but not selfish."

If there are two things you dislike in life, it's playing in front of others and nobility. Still, there's a chance to make get more than just a weapon upgrade...

>"I... guess."
>"Apologies, Captain, but I can't."

"I...guess," You answer, not exactly thrilled.

"That's the spirit!" Delmar grins, slapping your arm. "Come, come, I will show you my personal stock."

Without any room for argument the Captain leads you through a servants entrance, past a number of surprised cooks and servants. They scramble to make room for the two of you, but the Captain pays them little mind.

"From almost every planet I make port, I always acquire a few crates of the local flavors. Some a exquisite, while others... less so," He explains.

Eventually you are lead to an oddly fortified door, and after Delmar taps a code into a nearby console it swings open. Inside, what looks like an endless row of amasec bottles and other alcoholic drinks line the walls and make isles.

The Captain watches your expression with glee, obviously pleased by it. Even you have to admit it's an impressive sight.

"Take as much as you want, but... temperance, my friend," He suggests.

>>
>>33195995

You begin to look through the stock before you with a critical eye. Some you've never heard of, while others are ones you didn't think you'd ever see with your own eyes. Remembering Delmar's words, on more than one occasion to force yourself to put back several. In the end you take four bottles. Two for Cachino, two for yourself.

When you return, the Captain gives an approving nod.

"Enjoy yourself, my friend," He grins. "Just not too much."

"Always do, Captain," You answer.

You stop by your quarters long enough to put away your own collection before moving on to the armory. There, Cachino hasn't budged from his seat. However, something resembling a smile appears on his face when he sees the bottles.

"Well I'll be damned," He says. "How'd you manage that?"

You explain your newest addition to your firearm, stressing that Melodi had overseen the whole thing. Knowing this, most of Cachino's ire remains negated. Most of it, at least.

He takes the weapon and says that it will be ready by tomorrow morning. Maybe.

With that done you grab a quick meal before retiring for the evening. A bit of time reading and a glass of your newest vintage is a nice way to unwind, and with that you drift to sleep.

Sadly, despite your best efforts, you dream.

The light calls, but you turn and plant your feet firmly to the floor. Not tonight.

"Come on, you bastard!" You call. "Come and fucking get me!"

Then, just like that, the noise stops.

In the darkness ahead comes an animalistic growl, and a pair of glowing red eyes appear. Without another thought you raise your lasgun and fire. The shots land squarely, but the thing doesn't even seem to notice. Clad in armor black as night, head being that of a skull, it never breaks its stride.

"Murderer," it whispers, swinging a gauntleted fist that narrowly misses your head. Instead it slams into the wall, and you roll away to fire into the things back.

"Butcher," it continues in it's infuriatingly soft tone, turning and knocking the weapon from your hand. You grab your combat knife and pull it free.

"Shut up!" You snarl. "Shut the fuck up!"

You duck beneath another swing and sink the blade deep into the things chest, but when you pull it free only ash pours free from the gap. You stare in horror. Too long.

It grabs you by the neck and slams you against the wall, pinning you there and causing you to cry out in pain. Closing the distance, the skull brings itself inches from your face.

"COWARD!" it screams.

You rear your head back and slam it against the skull with all the force you can muster. The thing's grip on you loosens, and you shove it off of you.

"I HAVE FACED TYRANID HORDES WITHOUT FALTER," You shout, hitting the thing and forcing it farther back.

"I HAVE SEEN WORLDS BURN AND DIE!"

Another hit and a fragment of the skull goes flying.

"I DID AS I WAS ORDERED! I KILLED WHO I WAS TOLD TO KILL!"

One last hit sends the thing falling backwards to the floor. For some reason your eyes begin to burn and your vision blurs, but you fall on the thing and keep hitting it.

"I AM A CADIAN! AND I AM NO COWARD!"

Piece by piece the skull breaks away to reveal flesh and bone behind it. Before long blood stains your hands and face, but your blows don't stop. Can't stop. It only ends when you hear something. A noise.

A gasp, quiet and alarmed.

You look up to see a woman standing in the hall, the light suddenly much closer and near blinding. Vision still blurred, you can only make out two things:

First; her dark hair, reaching down to her shoulders.

Second; the pure, utter look of horror and fear on her face as she looks at you.

And then, as quickly as it began, you wake.
