The silence fills up the canyon fairly quickly before a bone chilling scream is heard from behind you. Both you and Tarik turn to find the source of the scream, only to realize that it came in the direction of the convoy. You turn to Tarik as he puts his boltgun down.

"I believe that we were not needed on this mission... It seems that whatever resides in here may have been angered by our attack and finished our mission... I just hope that whatever it is doesn't try to thank us..."

Their armor is rent and it seems that they were eaten from the inside out. The remains are fairly old, signifying that they were here a little whiles into the rebellion. Tarik then looks at you and sighs.

"They aren't one of ours, so they must be one of the renegades."

Just then, you hear a boltgun cock behind you and then a sigh of relief. You turn around to see three marines and your scout squad.

The marine steps out of the cave and out into the canyon.

You step out of the cave and follow the lead of the marine before hearing something burst from the canyon walls. A scout turns around and is quickly grabbed by the tentacle and is pulled into the cave, screaming all the way. It only stops when you hear a sickly crunch.

After another good hour of walking at a fast pace, you finally reach the canyon entrance and find that the bodies from the battle before have disappeared. Not even body parts are on the ground.

"Where are the bodies?..."

As soon as the marine says this, the ground begins to shake as you feel the earth beneath you shift a bit. The canyon is silent and still for a moment. Tarik shoots a glance at you and then at the scouts.

You quickly shuffle over and make your way up onto the rhino. You look at the marine and find that he was talking to his brother who is now dead.

He looks down at the rhino and opens up the hatch.

"I think we can outrun whatever those tentacles are. We'll need to be fast and we'll need to get far away from the canyon before attempting to call in reinforcements. Can you handle this, scout?"

"As far as I can tell, the vox is still operational. The deadzone cover at least ten miles, which is the entire canyon, and an extra five miles outside the canyon. I will yell out when we are outside the deadzone. That is when you will vox command and tell them we need help."

The marine sighs and then says a little prayer.

"Is everyone ready!"

The last scout climbs into the rhino and gives you a thumbs up. You tap the marine on the shoulder as he starts up the rhino. The rhino comes alive with a mighty roar, which is then met with a large quake as tentacles begin to spew forth from the canyon.

"Hold on!"

The rhino speeds up quickly and dodges a few tentacles.

"We are nearing the one mile mark!"

One tentacle spews up from the ground under you and goes right through the pilot's seat, knocking the marine unconscious.

"Nameless! Get on the wheel!"

You quickly push the marine out of the pilot's seat and you begin to drive as Tarik takes up your previous position. A tentacle spews out in front of you...

Like it was second nature, you quickly swerve out of the way and smash into another tentacle, crushing it under your treads. Tarik smirks and yells.

The rumbling is getting worse as you see something large coming up from the horizon. It's as though something is rising from the earth itself. You quickly look down at the radar and, with great joy, tell Tarik that you're out of the deadzone. Tarik then voxes in your position.

"Copy that, Scout Tarik, we are sending support. ETA 5 minutes."

"Think you can hold out for 5 minutes, Nameless?"
