Laughter echoes, rippling the water in the fountain before you. Here, out in the open, you spar verbally with a projection of a man called Maestro. He is among your self professed Clergy. His worship of his ‘goddess’ is to challenge her to spur her growth. Slung over your shoulder is the animated nanotech construct that had previously been several pieces of gear belonging to a woman who served the opponents of your fanatical and deranged devotees.

Standing in full view of many people, you are coated in the red and black. Its carapace skin accents each rolling hill and ridge of your musculature in the never same patterns of blending fluid as oil and water. A predatory growl escapes your lips and grows into a snarling roar.

“I would not think myself sick...I am merely more aware of the truths of the world,” he sighs, “than most of the rabble at anyrate. I haven’t finished my elegy for you, dear goddess, but it shall play soon and all the earth will be audience,”

He laughs.

You are Tsubasa Campbell, a post human fused with impossibly advanced quantum nanomachines. This transformation has changed you in myriad ways, and attracted unfortunate attention.

>Ask the bastard something. What?
>Leave, this is too public.
>Lash out at the projection. Verbally? Physically?

You are wrapped in a carapace of the red and black...which is technically part of you. Your important bits are covered by a swirling second skin...so maybe?

With your claimed bounty, you turn from the Maestro’s projection and ignore him. It doesn’t seem to please him as you grow further away with each step. His laughter strains into angered silence. He says something about this being only his prelude.

People part their way for your. Some in fear, some in awe, and some in confusion. With an unnecessary beat of your wings, you leap into the air and soar. Leaving astonished gasps and cries in your wake. A missile, you navigate your way home where you transform the carapace into a sensible short jacket, shirt, and pants.

Swinging the door open, you find Tomoko and Hanako chatting on your couch. Hanako in her skirt and one of your T-shirts. Its a bit too big on her, but her blouse got a bit stained last night.

“Oh, good,” Tomoko Tomoe smiles, “You brought back what’s left of my equipment,”

“Nope, spoils of war,” you shrug, “Plenty of iron and fiber, a complete breakfast,”

Tomoe-san rolls her eyes and grumbles, weakly listing back to the couch.

“Breakfast?” Hanako asks in concern.

Raising the headlight framed ‘face’ of the monstrous amalgamation you part your lips wide and sink your teeth into metal, glass, and plastic. With the twisting strain of the materials you pull back trailing wires and leaving jagged torn metal in your wake. Liking your lips to wet them and then pursing, you slurp the trailing wires up. Tentatively chewing you smile and lightly moan.

Hanako stares at you, slackjawed.

“The truck that blew up was containing a ton of tiny robots that were very old and very rare. They fixed up Tsubasa’s body and started growing, gave her super powers, and gave her a penchant for eating & integrating less advanced nanomachines...among other things,”

She nods slowly, eyes still locked on you as you slowly and provocatively consume the combined form of the inert nanomachine infused devices.

>Acquired 30 Banked points

She rises and approaches you as you lick the last bits of motor oil from your fingers. Placing her hands on either side of your face she turns you left and then right. Tracing your jaw line to your chin before parting your lips to look at your teeth.

Releasing your face you can’t help but smile at her shell shocked curiosity. Lifting your shirt and laying a hand on your stomach you hear her whispering something about you not even being bloated.

She turns around, grabs another beer, and sits back down.
>>
>>33134864

“I thought you said me being all powerful was hot,”

“You being a stone cold badass was hot...the rest of this is still sinking in,” she cracks the top and takes a drag, “Like...I know you work out, but is all that...you?”

You shrug as Tomoko snatches the beer out of her hand and chugs it down.

“HEY! I Needed that to cope!”

“If she wasn’t cut, she would still be able to bench...I don’t know what she could bench. I’ve spent the past few weeks shadowing her every move and monitoring her internal activity. All the nanites have done was help her process raw materials. The brick house is all earned, she works out more than a person should be able. And she keeps all her gains,” she crushes the can between her hands, “and then there are the faces she makes during and after...not to mention the sounds-”

Hanako stifles a giggle.

“Seriously, you could probably do a lot worse,” she leans back and looks over to you, “Both of you,”

Oh, that’s a bit embarrassing.

“You...were watching that?” you shrink back a bit.

Hanako seems to draw in on herself as well.

“Weeks,” she groans before jerking the thumb at the embarrassed woman next to her, “And this one thought I was trying to move in on you at your ‘I’m not dead’ party,”

>>
>>33134886
If you've been watching me that much, we might need to chat and see what opinions you have about some of the other shit going on, but for the moment, we need to talk about this Maestro guy.
Know anything about him? Crazy as all get out and can try to take control of nanomachines from a distance with some sort of weird.. hymn... thing.. something.
He's decided to 'force' me to evolve into his goddess by sending monsters to kill me. Yay.

You know, next time we should get powers to block electronic monitoring tools. A low grade emanation we can switch on and off that makes sensors not notice anything or something. Being stalked by crazy cultists and an erstwhile corporation who wants to save the world makes me want to seek some sort of privacy.

I call it "Electronic Ghost"
>>
>>33135844
Mainly I want to beef up Queen of Control next, that was a rough check against the Hymn messing with us, and I'd rather like make sure that any nanotech around us knows that we are in charge, not some nut in a nice jacket.
>>
>>33136538

What if we just get a nicer jacket?
>>
>>33136538
Hm, maybe layer Nanotech Mastery on top of it or something.
I keep feeling like we need a proper name for Quantum Machines of the Ancients.
>>
>>33136575
Then we'd be styling.

Clearly, we need to make friends with a FABULOUS Italian fashionista of some sort. We could name him Dio Sugata
>>
>>33136575
That could help, but how do we top a tailed white jacket?
>>
>>33136538
If we keep going, we could use it to control nano-machines independent of us.
>>
>>33136635
And then the meals could just come to us.
>>
>>33136685
But we like showing off our hard cut body. How about we lead the nanomachine infested monsters to remote places and then go to town on them.
>>
“Yeah, about that,” you walk over and prop yourself up against the loft bed ladder, “Do you need to stalk me so thoroughly? Shouldn’t you be keeping tabs on guys like Maestro?”

“I need to do my job. My job was tailing you until you were ready to play nice with us,” she crosses her arms.

“Maestro?”

“The nutbar with the green visor who broke my mirror,” you grouse.

“So. That’s twice now the Clergy has had you attacked?” Tomoko counts off on her fingers, “Do you want to play nicely with Mori Micro now?”

“I’ve got a few concessions, but I’m willing to talk,”

“Wonderful,” she smiles.

“I’m feeling extremely lost right now,” Hanako huffs.

“Clergy are some guys who think I’m nanotech jesus,” you sigh, “And all they’ve done is provoke me into fights,”

“Were they behind the giant armadillo?” Hanako asks worriedly.

“Probably, we thought such an attack was beyond them...but after this morning I’m not so sure,” Tomoko leans back, “At least you took care of my rogue gear quietly. I gotta say, I admire your dedication to being as subtle as possible,”

You did point out the fact that the sudden appearance of giant kaijuu and a probably friendly, but unconfirmed, superhero like being is going to cause lots of anxious normal people to panic... " 'Do I want to play nicely with Mori Micro now?'. You see, that kind of attitude really puts me off. I've done nothing to harm your company. Maybe you should think about being more open with what you want, instead of treating me like a mushroom."

Your gear came running down a busy street with crazy tendrils, I smashed it quick, but Maestro project some kind of giant hologram of himself to try and goad me into conversation. I didn't give him the pleasure and got out of the public view.. but it was a pretty public show- Totally not on me, I've tried to keep off the radar.
>>
“Yeah, about that...I fought it in public and Maestro made a whole public declaration,” you scratch the back of your head and pause to put your hair up into a ponytail.

“What?”

“It was a big to do, but I didn’t let him bait me, just walked away,” you nod, “So. Later you and I are going to go over some favors I need with certain personal troubles and we’ll see what we can work out, especially finding out exactly what you want from me,”

You glare at her, and she wilts back.

“Any, Hanako and I have a thing to do this afternoon and we need to get going. And I’m sure you’d do me the kindness of arranging repairs to my door and bathroom after this dust up,”

Tomoko sinks deeper into the couch and nods.

You motion for Hanako to come along, and she does at a slow pace.

After about two blocks of hesitant steps behind you, she catches up and walks beside you.

“So, this is weird,” she laments.

“A little,” you concede.

“So a guy called the Maestro is going to send monsters after you?”

“Yeah, its like a bad saturday morning cartoon,” you groan, “but so far they’ve been tasty,”

“You should totally get a red scarf and a new motorcycle!” Hanako says in excitement, “You could be like Kamen Rider!”

You chuckle.

>>33137575
“Nah, I can get big. I’m more like Ultraman,” you cross your arms proudly, “And...its weird. Before, I was always small. I got buy on speed and my wits. Now I can throw my weight around and it means something, it feels good,”

“You always did really love Sumo and Pro Wrestling,” Hanako nods.

“I coveted strength because I didn’t have it...now I do, and I really like showing it off. Proving that I’m stronger,” you blush, “I get really into it,”

“Ah, I’m jealous. You get the body of your dreams, get super powers, lame saturday morning enemies, and,” she smiles as her hands fall behind her back and she pushes her chest forward, “I’m pretty sure you’re going to get the girl,”

“Its scary, though,”

“At first I didn’t understand what was happening to me,” you crack your neck and look over and down at Hanako, “I had this weird coma dream, and when I came too all my scars were gone. Then I started growing...I pieced it together and then got a few answers from Tomoko...but it was still scary,”

“I guess it really would be,” she concedes.

“And, I keep trying to get a grip on it, but sometimes I feel like I’m losing the things that make me human,” you close your eyes and keep walking with Hanako beside you.

She is eerily quiet for a few paces, before you feel a pressure against your arm. Leaning into you, she wraps both of her arms around your own and keeps a slightly hurried pace alongside your longer stride. Slowing down for her benefit you can’t help but smile. It feels nice.
>>
>>33138680
“and, I don’t want to scare people. I want them to know there’s someone out there to stand against the monsters. Maybe be big, maybe inspire others to feel big,”

Hanako breaks her silence.

“You do like showing off, don’t you?”

“Maybe a little,”

“Maybe a lot. You didn’t need to start chowing down on that robot right in front of me, you wanted to,” she faux scolds you, “Hitomi and I still have a lot of work cut out for us. You still think like a guy,”

“Okay, so I do. I still want to be an inspiration,”

“And I’m sure you will be. And if you ever feel too far away from your humanity,” her head falls against your shoulder, “I’m right here,”

Its comfortable. Its peaceful. The few odd looks you get from other pedestrians is worth it, this feeling of peace.

“However I am still totally jealous that you can literally just eat whatever you want all the time,” she grouses.

Heh. It’s petty, it’s funny, and it makes you feel human.

“I will need thirty more Emulators,” orders the Maestro as the fallen of his choir are carted away, “Ten to replace the fallen and twenty to bolster control and range for my next piece,”

The surviving robed choir stand vacant eyed. Without the song, they lack purpose. Their freedom long ago taken in the service of, in the words of their captors, a greater purpose. Only three of the fallen remain in the room, smoking corpses burnt from the inside out, their pristine yellow robes untouched by flame or soot.

He smiles, the Maestro. He lays his hands upon the ivory with care. It will be a bold move, for certain. His peers within the clergy will scold him for it, but he absolutely must ensure success. They had studied the specimen he intended to use extensively, so losing the raw materials now wouldn’t hurt the cause too much. Win or lose, something of value would be gained. Even if it was at a cost.

“Swan to travel,” he whispers as the tank is opened and he plays the first note, “Storm to gain her attention. Fly,” he commands in song.

Big Changes Quest Thread 18

End or Pause?

Begin end of thread queries, discussion, and voting. I'll be back in the morn to check up on things, answer questions, tally votes, and if it's still around, run.

See you at about 10 or later in the am. EST
>>
>>33138748
End it for now, so we can debate on what cool powers to get?
>>
>>33138748
I'd say end it for now.

See what we can do with our new banked points. Though I admit I'm terribly tempted to see if we should get a weapon. As satisfying as it is to beat things with our bare hands, it would be satisfying to eventually have a badass warhammer or something forged.
>>
>>33138908
maybe use the red and black to form a giant scythe thing? Or form a portable rail gun?
>>
>>33138822
>>33138908
You guys are aware that him ending it for now and then starting it back up if he can in the morning would qualify as a pause, right?
Unless you *want* him to end the thread completely.
>>
>>33138952

End or pause, voting on how to spend your but load of points will be a thing.
>>
>>33138952
No, I don't think they understand that. I've seen /tg/ be pretty stupid these past few days.
>>
>>33138748
I'll vote for upping Queen of control and nuclear phoenix.

And maybe get a new power. Maybe some kind of training aura where those who train physically in our presence find they gain more of a benefit from physical exercise than they normally would. They wouldn't be able to transcend human limits on strength and endurance,at least at first but they'll find reaching those limits much easier than training without Tsubasa.
>>
>>33138974
Let's just pause it and see what happens afterward.
>>
>>33139029
How about power? We still have it at 1d6 despite all that training Tsubasa goes through
>>
>>33138748
Seeya in the morning, take care.

I'm for upping Queen of Control.
Maybe add a Nanotech Mastery power to reinforce that (and other useful uses).
>>
>>33139050
Queen of control +1d6 -6 points
Atomic Phoenix +1d6 -6 points
Power +1d6 -6 points
Anyone have objections to anything on the list so far?

Also, we just gained 30 points, but how many did we have banked before that?
>>
>>33138908
I think we can form simple shapes from the Red & Black already. We just don't haven't done much outside of form wings and harden up.
>>
>>33139183
>but how many did we have banked before that?
5 points.

Considering that Maestro can take control of nanites at a distance, maybe we should modify Queen of Control to Queen of Controlling Choir.
>>
>>33139226
so we had 35

We minus out 18

We still have 17 points. What can we use it on?
>>
>>33139226
Well, that would really just cut down on the amount of things we can use QoC for, and it's whole purpose originally was to let us mess up the choir and their attempts at control.
If you mean so WE can control nanites at a distance, it does that too, we just need to upgrade it.
>>
>>33139269
Maybe we can boost Hidden Presence?

After all, if they can't find us, they can't try to control us?

Or is that wishful thinking?
>>
>>33139266
I would like to upgrade hidden presence, because all these people knowing where we are all the time is starting to get annoying.
Ultralight skeleton getting an extra d6 would let us move even faster, which could be useful for Evasion and maybe offense, especially since it looks like we're going to be fighting a flyer.
Really, I just want to upgrade some of these powers a bit before we start getting new things.

>>33139293
It might be able to do that, but the Choir works through sound waves, so hiding wouldn't prevent it.
It might let us fuck up Maestro's attempts at gaining research data, though.
>>
>>33139183
>>33139050
We've got a lot in Amazon, which stacks with Power.

>>33139183
Agree on Queen of Control, actually I'd like to put much more in it.
Meh on Phoenix.
Disagree on Power.

>>33139226
>>33139269
I'd say leave QoC wording as is, we're getting what we wanted from that.
If we want to expand our control, I'd say a separate power.
Maybe themed off our exposure to Maestro's hymn. Let him regret trying that on us-
Hymn of the Goddess (maybe too much ego there)
Mistress of the Hymn.
Chorus of the Machines.
Hymn of the Ancients (I like this, tie in with the roots of all this stuff)
>>
>>33139333
Hm,

Elegy of the World
Humanity's Choir
Song of Destiny

It's kind of fun thinking up 'song' themed powers
>>
>>33139293
>>33139326
>>33139333
>>33139183
How about this line-up:
Queen of Control
Hidden Presence
Hymn of the Ancients
>>
>>33139333
Yeah, but upgrading Power is 6 and upgrading Amazon any further would cost us 10.
Plus, Power, as the physical stat, probably increases the amount of wounds we can take, and I don't know if FCA would help with that.

Hymn of the Ancients is definitely my favorite name on the list, although my ego calls me to Hymn of the Goddess as well.
>>
>>33139326

Flyer, not just a flyer.

Swan, Storm, That song about Jupiter, and reverse image search yields Olympus

I'm scared. We're gonna have to take the bull by the bolts.
>>
>>33139362
Aye.

>>33139326
I'd favor Mimicry of Divine Stature over Ultralight, more size/toughness/strength for monster mashing, also makes a better wall for shielding others.
>>
>>33139404
... If it's related to Zeus, I really really hope it doesn't have 'rapey' overtones. Because Zeus was one heck of a randy animal.

Animal being literal, the amounts of stories with Zeus and transforming into a beast to get it on with the lady folk is a bit much
>>
>>33139364
My personal desire would be:
Queen of Control +1d6 cost 6
Power +1d6 cost 6
Hidden Presence +1d6 cost 6
Hymn of the Ancients +1d6 cost 4
Atomic Phoenix +1d6 cost 6
Then we'd still have 7 points left, if we want a new power or to upgrade a 1d6 to 2d6.
>>
>>33139194
>>33138939
Hrm, point. Maybe later when we're ready for something new.

>>33139364
I like this, but as >>33139383 says I admit to pandering to a bit of ego as Hymn of the Goddess.
>>
>>33139441
Why don't we use the last 7 points on something frivolous

Like, "Perfect Finishing Moves" - ridiculous wrestling moves that actually work for some reason?
>>
>>33139441
I'd suggest upping Hymn of the Ancients/Goddess to 2d6.
>>
>>33139452
Hymn of the Ancient Goddess?
Hymn of the Eldritch Gods?
Hymn of the Unknown Divine?
>>
>>33139491
Do we need to add powers that just add die?
I would like to get something like pain resistance that allows us to ignore the negative successes from wounds up to a degree equal to it's level x 2.
Of course, we'd need Gyoji to tell us whether that kind of thing would be allowed, so for now we could throw another d6 onto whatever we decide to name our theme song/nanite control mechanism.
>>
Bump.
>>
>>33142065
Beat me to it.

Awake, morning all, back in action in a few hours.
>>
>>33142432

>>
Wouldn't something like Hymn of the Goddess or similar wordings play right into the Clergys plans, since our powers effect who we are?
And that's exactly what they want us to be, right?

If we still want something musical themed, how about something like one of these:
Indomitable Rhythm
Unsounded Symphony
Imperium Symphona ad libitum

I really like the idea of "Imperium Symphona ad libitum", since that lets us do pretty much anything we want with it.
>>

We decided on Hymn of the Ancients, not Goddess.

None of those sound anywhere near as good as Hymn of the Ancients.

The last one just means 'control the music at will' which would be more or less the same as HotA, except it doesn't imply nanite control, just music control.
>>
>>33142669
Actually, I have more issue with the 'Hymn" word than the second part, since a hymn implies we are praising something in a religious context.
Incorporating that into our self would really change our outlook. It would basically mean we'd be viewing "The Ancients" as being as gods to us.
And whatever power we get from it would not really be 'our' power.
>>
>>33142755
Well, I don't think our powers necessarily change who we are, but I can see your point.
'Hymn' is such a good word, though, and intent when making the power seem to matter quite a bit as well.

I still don't really like any of those other suggestions, though.
They just feel kinda haphazardly chosen, we should include something that ties it to the nanites.

Maybe use Song or Cry instead.

'Cry of the Goddess' sounds great to me, but you don't like that link to our goddess form.

Aria sounds fantastic, but I don't like the alliteration it would have with Ancients.

'Aria of the Goddess' sounds pretty great.

'Aria of the Guardian Spirit' is what my thesaurus evidently wants me to choose, but it doesn't flow right to me.

'Aria of the Adversary' since I've started looking for synonyms to 'Devil' at this point, wanting to distance ourselves from the clergy without choosing an outright evil thing.

'Aria of the Hellion' could work, Hellion is a word one can use to describe a delinquent, which would mean it probably reinforces Tsubasa's sense of self through connection to her past.

Might think of some more, but I would like to know what you (or anyone else that's returned) think of those possibilities first.

Also, the thing linking this to nanites in these suggestions is that the last word is describing Tsubasa in each instance.
>>
>>33142952
Maybe something along the lines of 'Aria of Disruption' ?
Implying an ability to break their control, interrupt the music, and disruption is fairly diverse as to what else we could do
>>
>>33143072
Well, we also wanted to be able to do some kind of nanite control with it, not just disruption, which is why I linked the second word to Tsubasa in each instance.

Also it's a theme song that way.
>>
>>33142952
Symphony of the Ancients perhaps?
>>
>>33143230
I made this thing way more complicated than it needed to be.

Yeah, 'Symphony of the Ancients' works as far as I can tell.
>>
>>33143175
We've already got nanite control, and I'm honestly lost ad to why the music bit bass been so important here. The other guy uses music, why do we need it?
>>
>>33143537
Because people want to beat him at his own game and rub it in his face.
I really would prefer something original, but no one has come up with something interesting, except maybe this guy: >>33139548

I think it's a bit sad that most of our power choices so far are reactionary, when we have such freedom to make what ever power we want.
>>
>>33143633
I kinda want a theme song, and if the theme song can be a versatile combat ability too? So be it.

Though really, the main reason I want the song ability is that the Choir had a bit of an effect on Hanako, and I want to make sure we can protect her from that by drowning it out with our own song.

And I'm glad you liked my suggestion.
>>
>>33143633
Hmm, do we have invisibility?
Because that would be a neat, possibly useful, power to have.
>>
So, it seems like you guys want to spend some points on a song like ability, among other expenditures.

What spread of spending do you all seem to most agree on?

Also, back and writing resume.
>>
>>33143973
Actually I think we could use Hidden Presence that way, we just haven't thought to yet.
>>
>>33143982
My personal desire is for:
Queen of Control +1d6 cost 6
Power +1d6 cost 6
Hidden Presence +1d6 cost 6
Symphony of the Ancients +2d6 cost 4 + 6
Atomic Phoenix +1d6 cost 6
>>
>>33143973
How about an ability that makes it so we can take injuries to any part of our body (including having our brain split in two) and not die?
>>
>>33144165
That would depend on if Gyoji wants to implement the idea of skills that grant unique things instead of more dice.

Unless you just want bonus die to your 'don't die from massive physical trauma that was somehow inflicted on you' roll

Plus, it probably wouldn't allow immunity to such extreme forms of death at first level, even if Gyoji did implement such a system.
>>
Meta Dice abilities would require me to work up a hard chart.

How about I put that on the back burner for a short while and then when I have something I find useful or applicable I present it to everyone and see if you like it...if that's okay.
>>
>>33144260
That's fine, modifying a system mid-quest without carefully thinking it out would likely result in disaster, sooner or later.
>>
>>33144260
Sure, I can wait.

For now >>33144072 seems like an okay list.

Though I'm not completely sure what people want Symphony of the Ancients to actually do aside from giving us more dice to control nanites.
>>
>>33144304
Simple.

We get more swole if we do something related to music when we lift: sing, hum, ect.

The Yukimura estate stands before you. A short while ago, Hanako had let go of your arm and walked ramrod straight behind you. She looked a bit ridiculous with her office uniform skirt and one of your more recently acquired T-Shirts, but she gets this oddly specific and hard lined look in her eye.

Unlike the night of your party, where you came in one of the side entrances while Hanako was still sobering up, the two of you approach the main gate where a woman with a plain kimono.

She bows her head to Hanako and opens the small door immediately adjacent to the main gate. She asks her to send ahead for a set of casual clothes to be laid out for her, a simple breakfast for the two of you, and for the newspaper office she works for to be called that she may take a personal day.

Her mannerisms almost remind you of Hitomi, a stark contrast to the way she normally carries herself.

“You know I already ate,” you say as the attendant takes her leave, “And are you sure you can take off from work?”
>>
>>33144551

“A motorbike is not breakfast,” she stares up at you with crossed arms and puffed cheeks until you shrink back a bit. You could still totally eat.

Hanako had been very serious about getting into journalism in school. She liked mysteries and uncovering things, and gossip. True she mostly just helped edit copy and with layout now, shunted into the office pool despite her efforts, but she kept at it hard with big dreams of being a manager.

“Family business and this are…” she hesitates, “important. Besides, Grandfather bought the paper last year and thought I wouldn’t notice. With Hitomi being tentatively married off, and with no other heirs among the main family, once Grandfather passes I’ll be head. The paper will be mine among other holdings, I’ll be a pretty big deal. Hell, any husband I eventually take will have to give up his family name,”

Bristling a bit with apprehension at what Hanako just said, you stare down at the normally...jolly and carefree woman beside you as she marches straight ahead.

>”Husband? Wait, what?” Confusion
>”Hold on, then what was last night and this morning about?” hurt...that hurt.
>”If this is just going to be a fling for you I would rather it established up front,” calm and overly rational.
>Snap back hurt and angry, what do you say?

I don't like the one about feeling hurt, because Tsubasa has shown before that she's got a very thick emotional skin. This isn't something that she'd feel hurt over before actually finding out what Hanako is talking about.
>>
>>33144880
Well, probably those who voted 2.

Anyway, I want to ask about it because it really is the kinda thing you should ask about. Given what happened between them and all. Sure it's a little immature since Hanako probably just didn't think about what she was saying, but there's nothing wrong with acting on emotions from time to time - hell, asking just shows that Tsubasa is starting to get a bit invested in whatever it is they have going as well, while keeping quiet doesn't give her anything to go off.
>>
>>33144880
No arguments from me.

Even with people that Tsubasa cares for, she's never been emotional.

It's simply not who she is.

There is a sudden lump in your throat, to heavy to swallow down. Husband? What was all that acceptance about earlier? What was that kiss about? All the teasing and waiting and flirting and...and.

You weren’t expecting something said so offhandedly to...give you such pause. You barely know what this thing you have with Hanako is going to become, and yet she casually talks about husbands? That needs to be addressed, and since you are alone in the hallway, and you don’t feel anyone else immediately around, you might as well ask. She could have said that for the benefit of anyone on her house staff she thought might be around on the other side of these thin walls and screens.

Right now, you have the luxury of knowing you won’t have anyone listening.

“Hold on, then what were last night and this morning about?” you say nonchalantly as you give her a passive side glance.

She stops and turns to you suddenly pale and wide eyed, as though she herself just realized what she had said so casually and perhaps flippantly. A guilty look passes over her features that is replaced with a tight resolve. Looking down the length of the hallway and then back the way you had both come, she grabs at your hand and looks you straight in the eye.

“I knew that if you did return my feelings,” she confides, “it would present certain difficulties in our lives. Grandfather has been fine with my past...dalliances, so long as I was discreet about it and didn’t create as big a scandal as I did back when I smoked,”

She takes a deep breath to steady herself.

“Discretion and certain open secrets are perhaps a core conceit of tradition and privilege,” she becomes a bit nervous, “and even before I found out you could do the impossible...I’ve been busy preparing just in case you did say yes to me; for a conversation I had hoped would be very far off.”
>>
>>33145377

You nod slowly. This is a weirdly and unusually serious side of Hanako Yukimura. Is this the face she wears at home, the facet of herself that walks with the same grace as her sister.

“For a long time, I expected that I would have to marry some second or third son of some respectable or wealthy family. Expected to bear an heir, and I do want to one day be a mother someday,” she closes her eyes with a tinge of fear, “but I vowed that my heart would be free. My heart would find who it wanted and keep them close. I had hoped for a long time it would be you. An orphaned son of an established family, though of foreign descent. I was very confident if I could win your heart, then grandfather would allow it, and if not…”

She becomes nervous.

“Grandfather made certain admissions to my sister and I back when we were first getting into high school. That when he passed, the family would have it’s first female head in a very long time. Expectations would be different for us then it had been for him, but as long as we avoided great public scandal and other difficulties, it wouldn’t matter to him,” her breathing quickens with nervousness, “He and grandmother had not loved each other for a very long time. For a time in his younger years, he kept a mistress...whom held his heart and protected him against the world like armor,”

She bites her lip and looks away, releasing your hand and waiting for some kind of response to her unspoken and previously far off question and offer hanging in the air.

I just want to mention that it doesn't matter if we're female right now, since we can decide to be either gender we want, and anywhere in between, at will.

Is our shapeshifting capable of that yet?

Reaching out, you take her hand and hold it gently, a tired smile spreads across your face. Her eyes light up with tentative hope at your response; and with her free hand she brushes a loose strand of hair from her face.

"Some days, I think maybe our lives would have been easier in America. Then I remember that we'd probably weigh like a hundred kilos or something,” you joke to ease the tension.

She narrows her eye ag you before relaxing and giggling. Pulling your hand she leads you to her room where two trays and pillows have been set up. A simple fare of rice, miso soup, and fish has been prepared. Assured in being alone in her own have, she turns to you and snickers.

“So, miss ‘I ate a motor bike less than an hour ago’ weighs less than 100 kilos?” she cattily jokes before grousing, “Not that there would be anything wrong with you if you were heavier than that. At least muscle weighs more than fat can be your justification,” she pokes her middle before sighing and breaking her chopsticks, “Then again for a while I thought that with your shinsumo photobooks you didn’t mind big girls,”

“That wasn’t sexual. It was just my fascination with power. Unless you were planning on modeling a mawashi for me back then,” you laugh and blush before deciding to continue your own brand of playful teasing, "Who knows; I might be able to browbeat Mori Micro into giving me a seat on their Board. Then you'll have a spouse that's just as successful and rich as you,"

She brings a piece of fish to her lips and chews slowly while musing on it with a hum.
>>
>>33146357

“I very much doubt they’d put you that high in their corporate structure if you joined up. They’d probably want to involve you directly in the study of...well...you,” she sets down the chopsticks and begins to work on her soup before putting on a fake and super haughty demeanor before breaking out in giggles, “Though I do have expectations of you in the long term if you are joining their firm. A proper mistress in this day and age should have their own career after all, and I highly doubt you’d settle for just being a kept woman,”

The hard part is finding a phrasing that doesn't contradict 'Firm Curvaceous Amazon' or 'Pretty Androgynous' while still letting us shift into whatever we want.
Since those two descriptors define our appearance as an absolute, and something like 'Polymorphic Body' would declare that we had no 'set' form.

So if we purchased an ability like 'Complete Self-Analysis' we would become consciously aware of our control over our development?

Would you require us to make an in character action (e.g. meditate) in order to get such an ability, so that it isn't just spontaneous?
>>
>>33146939
Probably spontaneous unless you want to do something particularly complex with it.
>>
>>33146939
Hmm, now that I think about it, 'Complete Self-Analysis' would actually be pretty useful for other things too, since it would let us know the exact nature of anything that affected us.
For instance, if we were poisoned, we would know what kind of poison it was; or if we were being psychically influenced we would know, no matter how subtle it was.
Basically, being aware of any and all 'status effects'.

You squirm on the cushion, you’ve barely touched your food. Stirring your Miso soup you look over to your side at Hanako who is still running on the amusement her last joke provided her. You are excited, and at the very least a bit apprehensive about the whole thing. It can wait for you to come back to it later.

“We can talk about that later,” being a mistress, an open secret, flouting your presence casually to whoever she winds up marrying if she marries...it carries a certain excitement. Perhaps too many things are exciting you these days.

No.

“Are you going to stick around to see how I look in makeup?” you ask a bit nervously as you finally lift a spoonful of soup to your lips.

Hanako blushes a bit and a smile curls on her lips.

“I took the day off, didn’t I?” she sets her chopsticks down, “And if this is your first time trying it on, I want to see the cute little mistakes you’ll make. Momentary confusion, the missteps I’m sure will happen,”

She is silent a moment as you finally start on your rise and fish.

“Although, I’m debating whether or not to tell Hitomi of our own first steps while she’s still under the impression that she’ll have to marry Dojima,” she sighs before perking up and nudging you in the shoulder, “speaking of which, we should totally go on a first date tonight. Dancing, dinner, or a movie,”

>Offer an opinion about talking to Hitomi, or stay silent about it.
I think we should tell Hitomi that we ARE working on getting her out of the marriage, don't rub it in that Hanako is finding happiness with a lesbian mistress/spouse (if we end up being a powerful enough corporate presence that traditionalists have no choice but to bow down before us, the zaibatsu equivalent of atomic bombings).
And if Hitomi gets all uppity again, we hit her with her hypocrisy, since this IS her trying to be a hero by herself.
If push comes to shove, we tell her the truth about us, that we're pretty much invincible to anything less than a tank battalion.

>Offer an opinion, reaction, or stay silent on the topic of a date.
A date would be nice. I'm more partial to a dinner and a movie. Or maybe a private workout at our place, since Hanako is always bemoaning her weight; maybe she's just not doing the right exercises.
>>

Agree with >>33147666 mostly, but I'm more partial to a dance. After all, it's a more active experience than a movie, and plays on Tsubasa's newfound strengths. Also tease Hanako a lot.
>>
>>33147561
Let's get Hitomi sorted out first, then talk to her.. though there's very good chance she'll figure it out before we talk to her about it.

“Well, if its some alone time to bond tonight...would you like to come over and work out?” you ask a little sheepishly and prompting a curious and questioning glare from Hanako.

You can sum her expression up easily. Its the kind of look Junpei would get from a girl he was dating fairly frequently, it meant something he had said was taken the wrong way or out of context. Junpei was normally oblivious to this and things would fall apart in a matter of days after that. Hopefully, you are not as oblivious.

“No, I didn’t mean...okay,” a deep and calming breath and blush a bit, “You could come over, and I could show you a pretty intense routine to help keep your weight down and allow you to eat whatever you want within reason. You obviously aren’t completely happy with your aerobics routine at the gym. And I was thinking that, you know, we’d be in close proximity when I showed you how to get the motions right...and I ‘like’ working out,”

Expressionlessly she rises from the cushion, and picks up the folded clothing that had been laid out for her. She stands still a moment before the sliding the door, facing away from you.

“I would complain about how you are already trying to change me,” she turns enough to see a mischievous smile and red tint spreading across her features, “but I was already helping you change...so I guess we’ll call it even. Besides that, you’ve offered a very risque evening comparatively early on in this relationship. I’m finally rubbing off on you,”
>>
>>33148407

“Well, you will be,” you offer with a sly bit of sudden confidence before becoming serious, “I don’t think we should tell Hitomi about us yet, just that we are working on finding a way out for her. If she gets upset again, and starts going on about me making a martyr out of myself, we can throw it back in her face that she’s doing just that. And if we can’t convince her otherwise...we can demonstrate what I can do,”

Hanako nods and opens the door to go get changed while you finish the meal. Her last comment lingers with you as the door slides closed.

“Assuming, of course, she doesn’t figure us out within minutes of seeing us,”

The tentatively building relationship between Hanako & Tsubasa, the super science goings on, and any other queries you may have that I can address.

I think Complete Self-Analysis needs another word to allow for changes or repair, and not just diagnostics.
I like it as a stepping stone to Complete Self-Analytic Restoration, not as just an end to itself.

Fine time once again, thanks for the run.

I'm having fun.
The relationship, and budding lewdness, between Hanako and Tsubasa is entertaining.
Though since Tomoe is such an effective stalker, I wonder if Tsubasa should indulge her desire to show off when she's working out, knowing that Tomoe is watching.
If she's going to be watching, might as well invite her in for some tea, right?

I think you're doing great, especially considering we took Tsubasa he opposite direction you thought we would. On the other hand you just gave /tg/ a lesbian couple so buckle in.

You started bringing in Tsubasa friends and history in when that really was the only complaint people might have had, good on ya.

I've been enjoying it a lot so far. Definitely improved since the early days as well.

updating the list to:
Queen of Control +2d6 6+8=14 points
Hidden Presence +1d6 6 points
Symphony of the Ancients +2d6 4+6=10 points
Complete Self-Analysis +1d6 4 points

Total = 34 Points

Hmm, well you're welcome to suggest some phrasings, if you can get it to not sound like we're trying to cram two unrelated abilities into one.

I'd prefer spreading our points out for now.

That's 36 points.
We only have 35.

Then we should eat a toaster for the extra point.

Also, I must be bad at this, since I thought there were points left over after that spread.

A guess I'd drop Power for the moment in that case, even if loathe to do so.

You only accrue points by banking successes or by consuming nanotechnology.

Will update sheet with this later.

We should only eat a toaster if it's got dancing nanite or slime powers. Then we can get really good at dancing to Your love is lifting me higher.

Otherwise, leave the toaster be, it makes toast, which we probably still eat. Probably.
