>Shoot straight
>Conserve ammo
>Never cut a deal with a dragon

Old /srg/ is on its way off the board, new /srg/ claims right of succession.

Topic of the now: Music and media in the Sixth world (and cutting deals with talent scout dragons). Is there anywhere that really talks in depth about music culture? I figure that knowing a good amount of material to fluff up runners meeting contacts in clubs might make things feel a bit more immersive, but all I really know offhand is Maria Mercurial and Jet Black by name, and underground ork punk rock having been a thing before.

What are some of the modern genres and unique musical stylings that rock the night clubs of Seattle or Hong Kong or even Tenochtitlan?
>>
There's mention of things like gothabilly, voodoo blues, and steelmill industrial in a western themed club in one of the 4e campaigns. Not sure if there's any mentions of those elsewhere but I like the names.

I remember Elf Rap from somewhere but I dunno.
>>
>>>33023532
pixies are 1/4 the size of elves (45cm vs 1,9m)

9mm is almost 1/10th of 88mm (hurr durr maths)

9mm is more like anti material rifle sized. Also, with their average strength of 2 they're fine.
>>
>>33023335
Shadowbeat and Attitude are the only books that even graze music from what I remember. They both kinda suck for music, too, so I prefer to mess around with local music scenes without touching either one-- It just doesn't seem like anyone on either dev team knew fuck all about music, to be honest. And slapping a metatype on an existing genre is like half of what they'd done with it, which is lazy as hell.

I mean, elves are people too but on a cultural level people seem obsessed with making elves these delicate, sensitive, spiritual people. Which makes me hope that elf rap is a bunch of inner city elf kids sick of that stereotyping bullshit and writing songs about how they killed fuckers when they ran with the Halloweeners and shit.

I think some people think the metatypes are sorta..... not what they're supposed to be.

>>
>>33024020
And they're both products of CGL's endlessly mediocre characterization. Riggers back in City of Shadows and Smuggler Havens were great.
>>

Sorry if these are a little long, wrote it up in Word. Gonna post the first two and then write up the dramatic climax.
>Our Pathfinder team gets (rightfully) wiped. >New Campaign!
>The Group: Short Geek Girl, Punk Girl, Me, and my Twin Brother from another Mother. I’m gonna call him Pepsi, if he sees it he’ll get it.
>Our DM: Nice guy, could have used more deodorant but his roomie always had the apartment sprayed down hard. Said he thought he could deal with five players and he knew someone who wanted to try SR.
>Thursday Night, instead of starting the weekend early we’re building characters. DM comes in with this cute girl with a blonde pixie cut. We’ll call her Fraulein.
>Introductions are made, characters built. Pepsi and Punk Girl are new to SR but me and Fraulein and the DM help.
>I should clarify real quick, me and Pepsi look really fucking similar. Both tall anorexic looking guys, we have the same laugh, same sense of humor, we both love WWE, it’s nuts. I’m white as fuck, he’s half Iranian and pretty dark.
>We’re both Jewish. I’m just Jewish because of my mom, never had my Bar Mitzvah, if I keep my hair short I don’t even look it.
>Pepsi goes to synagogue, his jewfro works really well. I’ve seen him in a yarmulke before. He wears suspenders. You know what I’m talking about.
>I’m helping Pepsi and Fraulein keeps looking at him. It’s not a distasteful look, just sort of confused.
>Party forms. Short Girl is a troll (hyuk hyuk) cyborg man cannon, Punk Girl is a human gunbunny/invisible adept, I’m an Ork Technomancer (Fraulein raises her eyebrows), Pepsi is a Dwarf Combat Rigger (again with the eyebrows).
>Fraulein is a human Christian Theurge.
>>
>>33024762
>Me, Pepsi, and Punk Girl had written each other into our backgrounds. We were all omae, had done a few runs together.
>Short Girl's Troll had lived in glorious Nippon but gotten tired of the horrible racism and missed job opportunities so she came to Seattle. Fraulein's Mage had transferred here from Berlin.

>We get a message from our fixer to meet Mr. Johnson in a restaurant in Tacoma pronto.
>Mr. Johnson informs us that we need to “recover” a drone schematic from a production facility. That night.
>We might need a bit more muscle and support, so he’s hired a Sammie and a Mage for us, and there they are now!

>Fraulein and Short Girl show up, everyone introduces themselves, Johnson gives us some more info and a bit of upfront money and leaves. We RP our dinner a bit to get a feel of our characters before we get into the run.
>Fraulein only seems to want to talk to Short Girl and Punk Girl, only one word answers for me or Pepsi’s characters.
>Whatever, it’s fine, maybe her mage doesn’t like tech heads?

>This whole time she’s been on her laptop, blogging or whatever. That’s fine for us, Punk Girl and I do it sometimes. It used to bug DM but after a session or two he realized we could still pay attention and we’d close em for characterization.

>We all pile into Pepsi’s sedan and drive over to the facility. Bit more characterization, again Fraulein is cool. It’s a little disappointing cause I actually thought she was a little cute but I'm just a huge sucker for the short hair.
>>
>>33024762

I'm thinking of GMing a game of Shadowrun either 3rd or 4th (first time I'll ever be GMing) any recommendations for either one? I heard 4th was vastly different and certain things were taken out and 3rd is "balanced" or some such. I've read the 2D stories if that helps.
>>
>>33024956
>So we break into the facility. It looks like there’s just silicon in there which me and Pepsi deal with. It seems like a milk run and OOC it kinda is, DM wants to ease Punk Girl and Pepsi into SR. But as we all know, it’s never that easy.

>The run goes smoothly, all the way up to me hacking into the node with the schematics.

>We’re all onsite, DM doesn’t like that Riggers sits in the car shit and Pepsi is playing a crazy motherfucker with flying machineguns anyway. DM also knows that I know Matrix Rules decently but forgot that this was my first actual Technomancer so I didn’t build very well.

>I get the file, but that sets off an alarm. Hired goons start running down the hall Short Girl is patrolling, and some Grey ICE shows up.

>My Ork is a real whiney dick with his 2 CHA and I glitch my roll so I just barely manage to jack out of VR gushing from the nose.

Meanwhile, Short Girl is terminating the fuck out of the goons but one of them plugs her in the back.

>We’re two down, Short Girl in less urgency than me but still on the ground.

>Fraulein is the only person with any first aid, she also billed herself as a Healing Mage.

>She heals Short Girl right away. I’m still on the ground, drooling a little, and Punk Girl yells at her to heal me. Guess what happens?
>>
>>33025492
Depends on the flavor, if you want a more old-school cyberpunk feel go with 3rd. if you want a more "modern" take on cyberpunk 4th. is your choice.

If TwoDee's adventures are what inspired you in the first place then 4th is what they ran it on. otherwise I would actually tell you to pick up fifth (Unless you guys have already looked at it and decided to run with either 3rd or 4th instead)
>>
>>33025492
Read over the rules and see which you feel more comfortable with. You can set the game anywhere in the timeline that you want.

I prefer 4th due to the more action movie-ish you can make it and still be within the rules.

>”Look, sorry, sorry. We can finish the game, you guys didn’t have to bring politics into it!”

>DM is still kinda weak knowing that he invited a Nazi to play with us. (Turns out they had fucked and he wanted it to keep up. I don’t know if I should call him lucky or not)

>We couldn’t finish the game. Fraulein gets escorted out by me and Pepsi while she and Punk Girl yell at each other and she calls me and Pepsi kikes. After she left we took a Pizza/Smoke Break.

When we came back DM handwaved my dumpshock and Short Girl and Pepsi carried me out of there with Punk Girl covering our backs. Fraulein’s character was “lost in the confusion” but we actually ran into her later. The DM had her running a cell of Humanis we had to wipe out.

We looked at her character sheet and she had avoided taking Prejudiced but had taken a Policlub Officer as her primary contact. I guess DM hadn’t noticed when he was accepting our characters.

And that’s the tale of Fraulein and her Nazi Blog™

Gonna rub a Miami campaign soon. "Single A corporate battleground" sounds like a fun hook, and I steal half of my mood music from hotline miami anyway.

Since Miami is in the Carib League, what corp has the public security contract? I assume it's not Lone Star since they only operate in the UCAS and the CAS from what I gather, but then what are the major security providers for the Carib league?
>>
>>33026432
I can't remember, I'll check the North America source. But you'll want to read Cyberpirates! for the Carib League in general, it's one of the funnest sourcebooks there is.

Would it be? I know that the corporate court plays a role in keeping the overall Carib League protected, but the Sixth World Almanac seems to imply Miami is a battleground of lesser corporate interests instead of somewhere any one AAA had too much of a direct grip over

>>
>>33026688
You could always make it a mishmash of competing cop corps, doing 19th century style firefighter turf wars.
>>
>>33026704
The security market's split pretty well between Lone Star, Knight Errant (An Ares Subsidiary®), and smaller outfits like Eagle Security, who did Chicago before it went bugs. Reading through Cyberpirates, it is in fact Atlantic Security who has the Miami contract, but that probably doesn't extend to the rest of South Florida, let alone off-coast. Atlantic does dictate the way things run in Miami, though.
>>
>>33026844
Eagle security sounds like a shitty ares subsidiary. Like, you couldn't afford Knight Errant, so you went for the shit tier package instead.

I have a question regarding Matrix mechanics, /srg/. I want to view someone's public profile from their PAN using AR, they aren't in direct range of my commlink but they are meshed in to the Matrix. Can I do so?

How about if a node is set to passive - can I still access public-level functions, or is that restricted to user and higher?
>>
>>33027399
It's like if geocites had sex with Mein Kamph
>>
>>33027433
4e, huh? For public functions I would assume that since you're in a public space, you can access everyone's profiles via the local node network (in addition to a store directory at the mall, you'd have a social space directory and see if there are any unaccompanied qt3.14 elf teens traipsing about). It's only if you want real peer-to-peer contact you'd need mutual signal.

In 5e this is better abbreviated by the Grid concept. Everyone on a Grid or inside a Host can see each other.
>>
>>33027401
Did you hit it?

Oh god how could anyone think that? I mean thinking that SR orks are all green and shit instead of having normal human skin tones is fine since all other fantasy uses green orks/orcs. But seriously, thinking orks are based off of black people? That's just so stupid, nothing in SR points to that at all.

SR orks tend to have human skin tones too, but it'd be a less crazy assumption to make. It isn't like there's not also black people. Even black orks! And elves!

I just don't get that line of thought though, maybe it's because I don't live in America and don't experience many black people, but the whole fact that there are plenty of successful negroes as well as plenty of scummy, idiotic whites just disproves the whole negative stereotype of blacks.

There are a lot of parallels with the racism. Being segregated and living in slums, "orxploitation", gangers, the stereotypes...I can see where the thought comes from.

It dosn't.

According to the writers, any encryption can be broken cheaply and easily because LOL CHAOS THEORY.

Credsticks and credits are supposed to be cyrptographic currency. An untraceable way to electronically transfer funds from peer-to-peer without the need for a third party.

Of course, with all encryption easily broken, that makes no sense.

Welcome to Shadowrun.

>>33028736
Credstick uses aren't tracked and don't need to contact anyone else. They are purely peer-to-peer.
>>
>>33028815
They could put backdoors in and then reboot, if those are added in Data Trails.
>>
>>33028790
that doesnt work, as credsticks are not tied to any account and are untraceable. The money actually resides on the stick, like a bitcoin.

They're digital cash containers, you can move a balance on and off of it over the wire. That doesn't say what the underlying technology BS is.

An incredibly sophisticated micro-computer which holds (behind Delta-Ware Grade Encryption), a file, which when correctly authenticated, is worth a certain amount of data.

It's basically mobile cash in a handheld form.

You can forge it, but then it's an opposed check between the rating of the forgery and the rating of the terminal accepting it.

Is it possible to spoof a peripheral with an access id that is not currently logged into the node? Is that id permanently authenticated when they create an account, or must they re-authenticate every time they log in?

If the former, you've got a permanent backdoor into that node, if the latter it will not work unless they're logged in.

I want to make a 4E character who kicks the hell out of stuff with Foot Anchors. I really want full cyberlegs, but mechanically it'd be a hell of a lot better to just get rating 4 muscle augmentation and toner, which makes me curious about how cyberlimbs are any good when you can just get bioware instead.

Anyway, is there anything I can get besides some martial arts to increase unarmed damage and such to make this character able to kick things as well as a punch adept?
>>
>>33032349
Patience. We already have implanted vaginas that work well enough, we're well on our way.
>>
>>33032396
not all cyberware has bio analogues and vice versa. And even when there are anologues typically bio gives you more control, ie splitting muscle replacement into toners and augs
>>
>>33032396
Raptor Cyberlegs give +1 DV to kicking, and the Nightengale Feet of Fury cyberlimb optimzation gives +1 die per leg to Unarmed (kicking only, obviously).

The main reason for taking Cyberlimbs is to be able to compensate for low natural attributes.

It's far better for somebody who has 1 or 2 AGI, BOD, and STR to take a 3/3/3 cyberlimb than it is for somebody with 6+ in all of those.

Quick question, I have a sniper rifle with an external smartgun system mounted on the top rail, the question here is if I plug into said weapon system with a datajack, I assume I cant use my cybereyes vision enhancements while looking through the smartgun camera unless it has those mods.

That would be correct, but you could use the smartgun without looking through its camera, and get all your cybereyes bonuses.

smartgun camera? You don't look through it, all the parts of the smartgun system are for calculating range and telemetry and stuff, and overlaying that information on your smartlink.

After that it's drones or hungry wildlife complicating things. Gotta hide or kill them, and the party is getting cut apart by spirits they can't see without you.
>>
>>33032700
For 81k¥ (and 2 Essence), you can get a pair of cyberlegs with:
AGI 9
STR 8
+2 Unarmed Combat dice (kicking only)
+1 Unarmed Combat DV (kicking only)

Assuming you have 4 ranks in Unarmed Combat, Muay Thai with the +1 Unarmed Combat DV advantage twice, and a specialization in Muay Thai, you've got 17 dice and do 7P.

Nowhere near dedicated punch-adept tier, but serviceable. The only big issue is the high Essence and nuyen costs, but you save on Muscle Replacement/Toner/Augmentation, and you can skip Dermal Plating in favour of adding Armour to your Cyberlegs.

Although it makes sense for gameplay, having everything hooked up to the matrix seems like a glaring security flaw. I can't see anyone in the game doing this unless the convenience outweighs the risk, theyre confident in their defense measures or they're simply ignorant.

Would you feel cheated if you broke into some place only to find out all the cameras and turrets are operating on a wired LAN? Is there any way to deal with this besides finding the computer than controls them?

I'm new, so I don't know if this is common or acceptable.
>>
>>33034084
That's one of the main complaints people have with the 5e Matrix System.

I'd feel insulted (player-wise) if the GM DIDN'T have hardwired cameras. Of course, you can always just hack into them with a Fiberoptic Tap.
>>
>>33034084
It's relatively common in very, very high security areas, as the benefits of global wireless typically far outweigh the vulnerabilities (IC is a thing, after all). You can get around it by tapping into the wired network either with a special drone or with a hardware kit.

As a note, the rail-mounted drone in Arsenal is explicitly wired to provide the added security.

It's a reasonable complication to have. Just make sure that if they do the legwork, they'll know about it.
>>
>>33034084
Knock it off. In order for the game to work and deckers to be useful, it's this way. Just suspend your disbelief and roll with it. There are plenty of reasons for the system like that to exist, just create chokepoints matrix-side to limit accessibility

>>
Anyone any name ideas for an Adept Troll in 5e?

>>
>>33034266
There are rules. Basically, sacrificing someone adds their Essence as a bonus to the spell/ritual's Force.
>>
>>33034290
What are you Adept at?
What's your ethnicity?
What's your favorite hobby?
What's your most distinguishing physical feature?
>>
>>33034266
It's in Street Magic.
Sacrifice Meta magic lets you cause damage with a Melee weapon, and the amount you deal is remove from the Drain of the spell you cast with your next Complex Action.

Then there's the ability to Bind Blood Spirits.

The former has the potential to be used for just ends... But Blood Spirits.
Hold fuck, hope that you never encounter a Free one.
>>
>>33034084
Firstly, it might be a logical security risk, but if you assume that PC hackers are a fairly uncommon thing in the game world, then it might simply not be a common risk except for the most important of installations.

Secondly, when you ARE talking about that installation, you can go all out and make a fairly paranoid security plan (but, it's best to keep a running tally of how much each measure would probably cost to implement and maintain). So, wired everything, wireless traffic policing, keeping the whole place out in the middle of nowhere and shooting every air drone that comes onto the restricted area, and other terribly crazy things like that can be a part of it. Generally, the game works out a little easier if you at least start off with more street-level targets and work your way to the big runs.

(we're going to be playing 4e, by the way)

Alright, so I'm getting mixed messages here. What I meant to ask was, are there ways for a decker to hack into a device that isn't meshed into the matrix in 4e?

I'm not sure how wired systems are even represented in the game. The controlling workstation would probably have it's own 'matrix' attributes. But, if players found the computer controlling the peripherals, how do they hack it? It's not likely to let you install hacking software with portable media unless you're already authenticated, and you're not getting in without your hacking tools or someone else's login info. Does the corebook or an expansion address this anywhere?
>>
>>33034290
Don't start with a street name, let your teammates come up with one after a run or two.
>>
>>33034459
To interact with a device you need a connection so you can hack in with your Commlink's Persona.

If the device isn't wireless enabled, you either need to connect to it physically by a port, or connect to a node that it's wired to, then Hack across this connection.

There are some other fancy ways, including piggybacking on Fiberoptic Cables through a Wire Tap (Unwired), and Skinlink, though unless you're a Technomancer with the Skinlink Echo, the device also needs a skinlink.
>>
>>33034459
you either jack into the machine itself or tap into the wired network, then hacking procedes as normal. The software is on your commlink
>>
>>33034541
What do you call each other for the first two runs?
>>
>>33034552
Note that a Node being subscribed to "The Mesh" is a connection you can get in through.
>>
>>33034290
Tell us some more about him, then we can suggest some ideas.

If you just want steriotypical "Troll-Build" street names.
Wall, Brick, Chunky, Lug, Tank, Bridge, Thug, Thumper, Soak.
Seeing as your Troll is pretty thick, any one of those might actually be decent.

Eating and driving.
Pretty much being huge. Nothing really that distinctive.

No last name d'you think? It'd probably fit the character as he is at the minute.

We just finished character creation last night and this is my first Shadowrun game , so far this is what I've got pretty much:

>Big, strong, not the brightest
>Pays close attention to his mentor spirit Shark
>Gullible, but headstrong. Pretty much he'll believe most of what you say, but if he decides a course of action based on this, you better hope you can either stop him or that the course of action is beneficial for you.
>Possibly an enforcer for a Drug Supplier for another PC. Who is also a Drug Supplier and owes money to the first
>Has a motorbike that he loves very much.

Good idea.
>>
>>33034706
>Massive Shark Adept
Call him Jaws...

Ooh, even better!
I also forgot to say:
I found symbiotes. Which makes me hungrier more often and for more food.
Jaws probably suits actually...

On the topic of Blood Magic. I can't help but be a bit let down that Blood Magic isn't nearly as fleshed out as the Blood Magic of Earthdawn.

It really was an interesting trait of magic in Earthdawn, and the complications surrounding it lended itself to there always being a story to tell surrounding each occurrence of Blood Magic.

And while Blood Magic was commonly frowned upon for good reason, it wasn't just of vile nature. It included elements like Blood Oaths, could even be a honourable thing when sacrificing your own very being for the greater good.

And vile or not, Blood Charms are like a form of magic oriented Cyber/Bio-ware, built around enchanted items. Magic isn't really as powerful in Shadowrun, but I don't really see why Blood Charms can't coexist with the above in one form or another.
>>
>>33035107
Chalk it up to FASA selling the brand. It was probably going to be tied more closely to Earthdawn blood magic beforehand, but that ended. I like integrating the Earthdawn stuff, it makes the setting a layer deeper. One thing you might find interesting, though, is that I think ED Strain was a Blood Magic thing, whereas SR Drain seems similar and it's a part of all magic. I never played enough ED to know, though, so if you're more familiar please correct me.
>>
>>33035367
Yeah but integrating ED led to Harlequin
>>
>>33035390
Everything about the Harlequin stuff was kinda decent, except Harlequin himself. Call it a glaring flaw on an otherwise decent bit of story.
>>
>>33035435
>>33035390
How can I make Harlequin not suck? If I do end up running a module where he appears, how do I make him, if not likable, then at least tolerable?
>>
>>33035496
You might have to rewrite a couple things, but what I'd personally do is write his dialogue so that it's obvious he's been on a thousand-year struggle without a damned day off. He's paranoid, nearly insane, and completely without pleasure, doing this shit because he knows the alternative's worse, nothing else. And probably ditch the clown makeup.
>>
>>33035496
If you're running Harlequin, get rid of the bit at the end where he fights Ehran in a cutscene, or at least adjust it so the PCs get to do something.

Maybe they could be his champions in the duel or something.

Just don't run it as "Oh, you try to join in the fight? Lol, he cuts you in half like a little bitch".
>>
>>33035764
Or just have him say he's gonna do it and then they hear the result afterwards.
>>
>>33035496
If it's Dawn of the Artifacts, you can cut him straight out, and have someone hire the Mercs to attack the players on purpose.

He adds nothing to the missions.
>>
>>33036027
I never read those, but I heard they were just kinda bad.
>>
>>33036059
They're fundamentally usable, however you've got to replace the Platinum-Blonde Magic 15 Mary Sue DMPC with someone less powerful than the PCs.

Otherwise you'll be forced to use their BS justifications for why she doesn't just solve everything all of the time.
>>
>>33035764
>>33035802
Maybe Ehran bitchslaps him with one of his claws, and as he's recovering he yells at the party "Don't just stand there, do something!"
>>
>>33037020
Maybe. You can still actually get good results by throwing in the "This conflict is too significant for you" feeling, but the way the adventure actually does it is lame as hell. But any worldwide conflict resting on a single melee fight is going to end kinda disappointingly in SR. Just doesn't feel right.
>>
How do I travel to and log onto to a node that isn't in mutual range of my commlink?
>>
>>33037648
Connect to a node that is in mutual range of the target node, hop to it. You get noise penalties.
>>
>>33037672
So this requires a large routing device if it's like, around the world then? Could I hop through a bunch of shorter range devices to reach something?

>>
>>33037742
You can jump through a lot of shorter range wireless devices (either hacking or them, or via them all being subscribed into the "mesh/internet").

Or you can get a satellite uplink or other device which will put you in mutual signal range.
>>
>>33028904
If that's the case, who do people NEED SIN's to go about on their day to day lives? Can't the local vending machines / general stores accept credstick currency?
>>
>>33038459
You still need an active PAN broadcasting a SIN, otherwise you're probably going to be arrested by the police.
Similarly, even to purchase at a General Store you need a SIN. Even if it's a shitty Rating 1, you still need one, otherwise they won't serve you...
Unless they're willing to flaunt laws, like a lot of low-income stores are.

A lot of locations don't accept Credsticks due to their use by "terrorists", and will report their users to the police.

It's the mentality of "paying via Commlink is so easy and convenient, there's got to be a damn good reason to use a credstick".
>>
>>33038693
Broadcasting SINs is something that I don't necessarily think is a good idea to require for a stuffer shack purchase. SINless still actually exist, few can afford the thousand cred on a fake SIN, and they're a significant enough portion of the population that the local Conoco would be retarded not to accept cred. And no police drone patrols are gonna hit below a certain paygrade's stomping grounds, because what's the point? Once the runners start doing business in places that serve the actual middle-class+, then SIN and all that should be important. Otherwise, it's not really sensible and just bogs things down at street-level.
>>
>>33038715
Sure.
That's why there are "Shadow Shops" who'll sell to SINless because there's a demand, and they've got a supply, and fuck the laws.

According to 4e rules (Runner's Companion) though (for players), you can only purchase a Lifestyle level equal to your SIN level, otherwise your SIN will get caught out.
i.e. You need a Rating 2 SIN for a Low Lifestyle, a Rating 3 for Medium, and 4 for High

>>
>>33038715
Sorry to ask but, just confused about SINs as a whole.
So, what's the deal with having multiple SIN? Say a character has a fake SIN they use as their main 'identity', then they have one in a kind of bug-out-bag for when shit hits the fan. Do you have to leave one just, broadcasting in your apartment, or basically never activate it unless you need it? (And, if you have activated it at one point, is switching it off til' later going to get you arrested?)
I also assume there's no point to getting a fake SIN once you've had a real one, as all of your DNA is on-file and would probably conflict with your fake one?
>>
What are people making of Run and Gun? I'm pleasantly surprised with the MA and Demolitions stuff but the rest just seems like the 5e Combat 1.5 Patch (please understand) that we were expecting.
>>
>>33038973

Well typically paranoid runners will rent properties with a relatively good SIN as a cover and then use another to purchase weapons and permits, use when breaking in etc

Shouldn't be problematic to switch on and off. Its only illegal not to show a SIN when asked by LS, and slightly rude in higher circles, but switching on and off is generally fine.

As to real SINs, remember that a SIN is maintained by a corp/ nation. If your prints turn up at a crime scene then when they run them, yes you'll ping up BUT when you just broadcast a SIN/show one to customs, a shop or LS then all they will do is verify that SIN. So yes its a problem, but not insurmountable.
>>
>>33039068
Aresnel, but without stuff for riggers.
>>
What would be the most important things to remember as a decker, especially when you can't rely on your team? Like, a top 3 for SR5e? - The character is capable enough to take care of themselves in a gun-fight, but obviously prefers the deck.

>inb4 "Shoot straight. Conserve ammo. Never cut a deal with a dragon"

Fake SIN Details

>1 Random anybody, age, nationality, and sex may not match; no supporting data

>2 Rough match; sex matches, age and nationality “pretty close,” no supporting data

>3 Good match; sex, age, and nationality match; supporting data, but obviously fake

>4 Casually plausible; sex, age, and nationality match; supporting data appears valid only on cursory checks

>5 Good fit; all statistics match; valid biometrics for another person (with samples); some supporting data and history)

>6 Alternate life; all statistics match; valid biometrics with samples; complete and entirely believable history

Your fake SIN info is pretty much garbage compared to a real SIN, but it's also stuff that doesn't specifically point to you below rating 6.

With this list (p367 core) the concept of a 'main' SIN becomes somewhat outdated - anything beyond a visual comparison is likely to cause a fake to start tearing at the seams, assuming the checker actually cares.
>>
>>33041051
>assuming the checker actually cares
Which many checkers don't, being machines.
Note also the table of comparisons made by various ratings of SIN checks.

>1 Do you have a SIN?
>2 Basic redundancy check on the number and vital statistics
>3 Redundancy check on number and statistics; query for external data attached to SIN
>4 Verify all vital statistics; external data checked for obvious conflicts; biometric must be present
>5 Full verification and consistency check; biometrics tested against sample
>6 All possible verification; multiple biometric samples must match; random supporting data verified externally

Notice how the ratings roughly match up - a rating 1 SIN will pass a 'do you have one' check - it would fall through in an instant if anything more specific is checked, but all the machine is asking is if it's present.
>>
>>33041205
>Which many checkers don't, being machines.

While I'd assume many low value corporate assets will feature only a machine reader, the fact it mentions operators leads me to believe anywhere more important than a stuffer shack vending machine will have someone standing near or next to the machine.

Anywhere that focuses on security (ie; where a runner will be paid to ply their trade) will likely have an operator that actually knows how to use the machine - even doing comparisons themselves. (which has more to do with p378 onwards than the SIN checking machine)

Point still stands. Don't go for a main fake SIN; buy a fake (or more than one) that fits the scrutiny you're going to put it through, and be prepared to switch to something else.
