Voiced Intro(Kudos to Voiceanon and Sonlee for this): http://vocaroo.com/i/s1Grk05b6F0v

Your name is Michael Dunkin, and you now work for the Inquisition. Previously you were a sergeant in the 291st Cadian Shock Troopers, but now you find yourself in the company of Inquisitor Christina Massey of the Ordos Xenos. After saving her life at the cost of your men and your life (the old one, at least), you've been officially proclaimed a dead hero and recruited into her retinue. Now, with your new life and future in her hands, you're tasked with looking after Christina's well being. And whatever else that entails.

After accepting Vincent's job offer you decide to do a bit of shopping. As per your luck, this quickly goes south and you find yourself in the company of new friends as well as an old one. You think, on the latter. Despite this sudden occurrence, you keep your cool and play your part well. Afterwards, you return to the ship to inform the Inquisitor and meet up with Vincent for work.

IT LIVES AGAIN!

You find Vincent and three other armsmen waiting in the hangar he listed, standing next to a much less impressive but more inconspicuous transport than the Inquisitor's Lander.

"Get everything squared away with the Lady?" Vincent asks, crunching a Lho-stick beneath his boot as you near.

"Well enough," You answer. "I take it we're ready?"

"Been waiting on your, Mikkey boy," Vincent signals to his henchmen. "You already know Hassan. The funny looking one's Mervin, and the short one's Grover. Boys, meet Mikkey. He's lucky Thirteen."

Each man nods in turn and with that you board the transport. Grover, admittedly a small man on his years, climbs into the pilot seat while the rest of you secure yourselves in the passenger compartment. Vincent finds his place next to you, to your lack of surprise.

"So," He begins, attempting to sound casual as you take off. "Anything I should know about from earlier?"

"We're dealing with professionals. Not just gangers," You tell him, then lower your voice. "I also think I know one of the terrorists, if that counts."

The look the Commander gives you kindly requests you give a bit more information than that.

"I don't know for sure," You admit. "But he's Cadian, and he fought beside my old unit in the past."

"Well, shit. How did they convince a Cadian to join them?"

"I think he's actually part of the leadership."

"Double shit!" Vincent mutters. "What's his name?"

"Major Owen Bishop, 302nd Shock Troopers."

"An officer? Even better. Still, it's better we know this now rather than later. You did good out there, kid."

"So what exactly have you roped me into?" You ask, not feeling particularly confident going in blind.

"Just a little business transaction," Vincent assures you. "It's all very illegal and dangerous. Nothing to worry about."

"That's... reassuring."

"Alright, it's like this, Mikkey: Sidonas is housing a LOT of guardsmen right now. Guys that have gone through more than they should have. We're going to help give'em something to keep their morale up."

"Narcotics."

"What? No! Well... that's not our main concern. Drinks, smokes, and other stuff you and I get to have whenever we want."

"So we're giving them stuff from the Antebellum?"

"Delmar would have my head if I tried that. No, we're doing some... local business, with some guys willing to cut a deal. We're going to go get the stuff and take it to a place where we've got people waiting. Once there, we'll give them the stuff and they'll reward us for our efforts. See? Nothing to it, and in the end everybody's happy."

fun fact, hookers got their name during the American civil war. As did the "Sharp shooters" because they were shooting one of the most ,if not the most, accurate (at the time) rifle in existence.
>>
>>32981397
>"If we're going this for guardsmen, we're not charging them."
I've got a feeling that the terrorists would gain some ground with those troops if we bilk them. Use that as an excuse to bolster their ranks. I've heard one or two tales of a guardsman who slaughtered his entire platoon as a sacrifice to chaos when the coffee ran out. They call him "Darvas the Half-Awake", doomed for an eternity of slurred words of blasphemy and nodding off amongst the horrors of chaos.
>>
So let me get this straight

>Our brother is a heretical tau sympathizers
>We may have to blam him
>Said sympathizers recurited us?
>And now were about to get captured by the local commisariat

Sounds about right?
>>
>>32981582
We are not cheating these people out of anything. At the very least we're giving them something in exchange for thrones that they can't really spend on anything in a warzone. I'm more worried that the terrorists already infiltrated this regiment and our cover gets blown.
>>
>>32981741
No. Someone we knew is a sympathizer. Our brother is somewhere on this planet and we don't know anything else.
>>
>>32981744
Honestly, I'm more interested in that little tangent then how altruistic we are.
>>
>>32981397

"Sounds like a plan," You say. "Are we expecting trouble?"

"Eh... are you packing something?" Vincent asks.

"My pistol and a knife. You?"

"Something similar. Just be ready for trouble and we'll be fine."

As you feared, the transport delves well past the point of seeing sunlight and into the lower portions of the hive. Air traffic is still present, but nowhere near as much as farther above. You also stop seeing the occasional Arbite patrol.

You land in a hangar bay that only looks partially like a gust of wind could knock it down. Grover remains with the ship, but the rest of you disembark.

"Here," Vincent says, and tosses you a case from an overhanging cargo rack. "Hold onto that thing like your life depends on it."

"Why do I always have to carry these things?" You mutter, more to yourself than anyone else.

Even for a hab in the lower wards of a hive city, you soon come to regret the lack of armor as you walk the streets. The crowds are a mixture of shady and outright dangerous looking characters, but you stick close to your companions and they keep to their own business. Eventually Vincent stops in front of a bar, and without a word he enters.

Inside, the bar is loud and thick with the smell of cheap liquor and obscura. Various people, and you think you even spy a mutant, crowd the bar, but it's the pair of gangers in the back that Vincent approaches.

(Cont.)
>>
>>32982263

"Evening, boys," He smiles. "How are you doing this fine day?"

"Better if you would show up on time," One of them growls. "Do you have the it?"

You show them the case, but as the second gangers goes to rise from their seat to inspect it Vincent steps in front of you.

"You show me yours, I show you mine," He says, still smiling.

The ganger glares at the Commander, but his friendly demeanor never fades. After a few seconds the man caves and they both stand.

"After you and your friends, old man," The younger ganger grins, signaling to a back door.

"Much obliged," Vincent nods, waving both you and Hassan to follow. You and the young armsman share a wary look before going after him.

Outside, you find yourself in an alleyway where a trio of addition gangers wait around the back of a cargo truck. It looks suspiciously like a PDF wheeled model, with the bed only covered with a flimsy canopy arching over it. On the bed rests several large metal crates, no doubt holding plenty of ill-gotten goods.

"Happy?" The older of the pair from before asks, impatient. "Now pay up."

"Ah, ah, ah," Vincent holds up a finger. "Hassan. Check'em."

The armsman holds up his hands, taking slow steps toward the truck. The gangers aren't too annoyed by this, so you take it that they're actually backing their part of the deal. Hassan hops up on the back and seems to struggle with the locking mechanism a moment before it pops open with a hiss.

After a bit of rummaging he turns back around and hops back down, giving the Commander a thumbs up and returns to his side.

"Good lads, all of you," Vincent nods. "Alright, Mikkey. Pay these gentleman."

Wearing your quiet but scary mask again, you approach the lead ganger and hand the case over. Then you begin slowly walking backwards.

The ganger eyes you warily a moment before turning his full attention to the case, along with the rest of his companions. He levels it on an arm and pops open the lock-

-and his head and upper chest turn into a fine red mist, wounding another ganger and causing the rest to reel in surprise.

Silently cursing the Commander, your hellspistol comes into hand in a flash and you down the wounded ganger, and then another. Behind you, lasfire takes down both remaining men before they can fire back.

Chuckling like a madman, Vincent slaps you on the shoulder before running past for the drivers seat. Hassan, meanwhile, pauses a moment to grab something off a dead ganger.

You pause next to the remains of the leader and see a pouch hanging at his side. Though it jingles nicely as you grab it, you also feel something else but don't have enough time to give it too much thought.

You shut the passenger door just as the truck roars to life and you shoot out of the alleyway and into the street. You feel the vehicle lift on your side as it turns, but the Commander straightens out and you slam back down.

"Vincent, you crazy fuck!" You can't help but laugh. "Next time, warn me before you hand me live ordinance!"

"Hey," Vincent snorts. "I warned you to keep a tight hold. And you did. So there's no problem."

"I wouldn't say that, boss," Hassan says, sticking his head through the open cab window behind you. "We've got a tail."

"Then deal with it," Vincent says, as if it's that simple.

From the pouch you grabbed you hear the crackle of a vox, but the words are muffled. Reaching inside, you pull the communicator free.

"-et on their asses, you idiots!" A voice snarls. "Fucking mercenaries..."

"Fucking gangers," Vincent answers, but you ensure it's only receiving. "You know the price they asked for this stuff? Triple what it's worth. You don't extort Guard, and you damn sure don't extort ME."

Behind you, the crack of a lasweapon is quickly answered by the chatter of a slug weapon.

Knowing Hassan can handle things himself, you keep the vox transmitting. A number of voices argue before the original one manages to silence them.

"Enough bitching, all of you! We'll settle whose fault it was. Where are they now?"

"Down on Carnagi road, heading for the Dantan District."

"Well? What are you dumb asses waiting for? Cut them off on the overpass."

"Thank you, sir!" Vincent says, making a hard right.

Behind you, a number of heavy thumbs and some colorful language suggests Hassan wasn't expecting that.

"Quit driving like a woman!" He shouts.

"If you didn't shoot like one I wouldn't have to!" Vincent calls back.

Keeping a careful ear on the chatter, you manage to go past any roadblock or ambush they manage to set up, which isn't much to begin with. Eventually you hear from behind the screech of tires and the sound of metal crunching. Moments later, Hassan's head pops back through the window.

"We're clear," He reports. "No thanks to either of you."

"We knew you had it handled," You tell him.

Having not expected a positive response, the trooper merely grunts before vanishing once again.

The rest of the trip is, thankfully, uneventful. After a time of driving Vincent pauses in front of a warehouse and honks the horn three times. After a few seconds a loading entrance rises open and a pair of guardsmen in fatigues appear, waving you inside.

Driving inside, you find over a dozen troopers from various units waiting. All three of you dismount to the sound of applause and cheering, with Vincent landing on the floor and giving a dramatic bow.

"In the Emperor's name... get shitfaced!" He announces, all theatrics.

You and Hassan remain with Vincent as the guardsmen go about unloading the cargo. The Commander greets a woman with the pins of a Lieutenant and the colors of the 84th Omnicron Rangers.

"Any trouble?" She asks, pointedly looking over the bullet holes in the side.

"Nothing to worry yourself about, ma'am," Vincent smiles. "Just glad to help."

"Uh huh," She says, utterly convinced. "Your payment's in the car. You didn't see us, and we didn't see you."

"Pleasure doing business with you," Vincent says, and as she walks off turns to you and Hassan. "Merv and Grover are keeping the transport nice and tidy for us, but I doubt they'd be too crossed with us if we decided to mingle a bit."

As he says the last part, his eye is rather firmly on the Omnicronian.

"Why the hell not?" You shrug.

"That's a good lad!" Vincent says. "Have fun, but not too much fun. We'll be needed by the Lady soon enough."

"I'll go count the money," Hassan sighs. "Try not to start a gunfight, or any kind of fight. Either of you."

There's a fair number of soldiers in here, leaving you plenty of options of find out about the sympathizers... or your brother. Then again, this warehouse design looks somewhat similar, and you're back in the lower hive. Maybe you're close to the one you were dragged into?

Not too keen on partying or watching Vincent try and hit on someone, you make your way over to the car apparently meant for you and the others. Hassan is standing behind it, leaned into the open trunk and counting a respectable number of thrones.

"How much are we looking at?" You ask.

"Enough to make this worth it," He replies. "What did the boss do now?"

"Nothing... I think. I was actually wondering if you would help me with something."

He pauses in his counting and looks for you to continue.

"I think we're close to the place where I met the sympathizers at. I want to check it out, and was looking for someone to watch my back."

Sighing, the armsman seems to give this some serious thought before shutting the trunk.

"I'm going to regret this, aren't I?" He asks.

"Probably. But thanks."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah..."

Finding a side door to leave through, you find the streets fairly deserted. The lights lining them are only half working at best, casting a less than desirable shadow over most things.

"Alright," Hassan says, looking down either ends of the street. "You've got me out here. Now what?"

See, a lot of questers have noticed a curious phenomenon about the name Wrenloft. PPQ players and PGQ players have used the strange temporal anomalies that are created every time someone using name the Wrenloft to roll dice to get Nat 20's right when they needed them in the past. I used it to get a Nat 20 on a saving roll for a Nat 1 out of a D100 in SQ. The formula appears to be: lots of dramatic tension + Potentially horrific Consequences + roll with ONLY the name Wrenloft and link to the post = Nat 20.

You set out, trying to figure out what each warehouse might hold or possibly find the Inkquisition. Hassan follows along dutifully, refraining from too many complaints.

You're a ways from Vincent and the others, on what you think is a familiar trail, when you hear something behind you.

Turning you find a pair of ragged looking men, each of them aiming ballistic pistols at you and Hassan. Their firearms shake violently in their hands, and it's not too difficult to spot an addict as bad as these two.

"W-we want your money, not your lives," The gunman says. "Hand it over and we'll let you go."

"Son of a..." Hassan mutters.

They're only standing a few feet away, and neither one seems too combat ready. The main problem is that you're lacking any armor whatsoever and your weapons are firmly put away.

Digging into a pocket, you retrieve several high-note thrones and hold it out to them. Hesitantly, one of them steps forward to take it.

As soon as he touches it, your other hand surges forward in a punch that connects hard. As he falls backwards, clutching at his face, you sidestep and narrowly miss the shot the second man pulls off. However, Hassan is on him a moment later, kneeing him in the stomach and pinning him face-first to the ground.

The addict's eyes widen several sizes at this, and he begins sputtering nonsense until he finally seems to catch himself.

"I... I may have seen some... some guys."

"What kind of guys?"

"Mean looking ones. Not gangers. Scarier."

You and Hassan share a look before returning to glaring.

"Keep going," You suggest, weapon still in place.

"They come around a lot. Sometimes late, sometimes early. Me... me and Jaek live nearby, so we kept noticin'em."

"Describe."

"It's different ones, most times... except these two. A dark man with funny hair and words, and a soldier, I think. He's mean, whenever we tried to ask'em for help."

>>32986397

"Take me there and we'll talk about paying you," You tell him, offering a hand.

Hesitantly he takes it, and with Hassan keeping his own weapon in hand you keep the two addicts in front of you.

They walk in resigned silence, though you're ready for one or both of them to bolt at the chance. However, after a few minutes of walking they both stop at a corner and point to a warehouse seemingly like ever other down the street.

"That's the one," He says. "Dunno if anyone's home."

>"Tell anyone we were here and I'll be back."
>"Thank you." (Pay them? If so, how much?)

50 each and tell them to keep their mouths shut.
>>
>>32986580

I have no idea how much that's worth.
>>
>>32986580
>>"Thank you." (Pay them? If so, how much?)
Not sure the value on thrones but I guess 50 each or all together or something is fine. We really don't need money.
>>
>>32986670
>>32986625
Guys we only have 127 thrones on us.
>>
>>32986702
We get free room and board, equipment, and can ask for just about what ever we want. We also haven't gotten our first paycheck yet.

>>32986580

>>
>>32986751
Of course I mean thrones. All fantasy currency sound the same.
>>
>>32986580

You've never really had much need for money and you don't see that changing soon. Your meals are free and you're not one for extravagance. With that in mind, you bring out a hefty sum of one hundred thrones and split it between each.

Both men openly gawk at the amount of money now in their possession, but you snap your fingers to get their attention.

"This goes to food and LEGAL drugs when they're needed. We were also never here. Got me?"

"Y-yeah, man! Of course!" He answers, and with that both of them scamper off.

"You're karma must be something else," Hassan muses.

"You don't know the half of it, buddy," You chuckle.

The warehouse stands before you, not looking anymore different than the others. You don't see or hear anything to hint at activity within, but you're gut still suggests caution.

"Let's see if we can slip into the back," You suggest.

"Please never say that again," Hassan groans.

No one else seems to be around, but you decide to play it safe anyways. A brief search shows a backdoor with a flickering light above it, with no obvious signs of recent use.

With a shrug the armsman approaches the door and pulls out a small kit you don't recognize. With only a few muffled complaints he goes about working on the lock.

You keep your eyes open for anymore trouble, pistol ready this time. Thankfully, the minutes only tick by the sound of tinkering metal and a complaining armsman.

Soon you hear a click and the creak of a door opening.

"Very nice," You offer.

"You first," Hassan waves, sidearm also ready.

Part of you wants to chance it, but you keep from voicing your first answer.

"Alright," Is all you say, and with that you enter.

The lights are all dead, but Hassan retrieves a flashlight from his person and offers some help. It's just like you remember it, though perhaps some of the crates may have been moved around.

"Is this it?" Hassan asks, too loudly for your tastes.

"Yeah," You reply in a softer tone. "This is it."

"Alright. Now what?"

To answer, something causes a loud thud nearby.

Beeping.

You hear beeping.

At first you think explosive, but then you spy a trio of blue lights in the darkness. Hassan sees it a moment later and brings the light to face it. You suppose you shouldn't be too surprised, but you still are all the same.

The Tau Drone hovers in the air, eyes moving as they zoom in and out, watching the two of you. It gives a chirp in greeting.

However, by the time you get out the thing's already long gone.

"This isn't good, is it?" The armsman asks warily.

"Not at all," You answer in an equally tired tone.

"...you did it."

"Yes, ma'am."

A sigh.

"What's the damage? You're not calling me from a courthouse, are you?"

"No. I decided to track down the warehouse the sympathizers took me to and see if I could find something."

"Don't leave me in suspense, Lieutenant."

"We found a Tau drone inside, and it escaped before we could stop it. Fairly sure it recorded the whole thing."

Think about the coldest, most distant person in your life. Doesn't matter if they're male or female. Remember all the times they've put you down, made snarky remarks, or commented on your moments of weakness; how they've constantly completely failed to empathize with you as a person or even recognize you as a human being. Now multiply all of that by twenty, give them the ability to tell the feature, a savior-victim complex, and stupidly accurate hearing. Now you've got an elder Waifu. Enjoy.

"How very noble," She deadpans. "Get back here, please."

With that she cuts the line and you wince. Suddenly, returning to the Antebellum seems less welcoming.

Eventually the same warehouse as before comes into view and you pause before entering.

"Thanks," Hassan offers. "At least you're her Thirteen. I don't want to know what she might do to me."

Or so you hope.
