Annalise begins chanting as she holds her holy symbol over your many bleeding wounds. The words she speaks, once clear and moving, are alien to you now. They are nonsense and gibberish, but they do their job. Your holes begin sealing up and leaving only small scars as evidence that they ever existed. After a few minutes, you feel much better, and Annalise tucks away her golden sun symbol.

You stand and dust yourself off. Before you stand Pietra and Annalise, your lovers, and two of your closest companions in life. They arrived only days ago, and have since been felling groups of small game and springing traps in order to draw the attention of the Rangers. According to Annalise, Pietra was able to track you and Maurice all the way north, but the forest was too much for her, and they quickly found themselves lost amongst the leagues and leagues of tall trees. Kor, the grand spectacle of a woman from the Sunset Island, was sent to rendezvous with the Rangers, who will no doubt be on their way here after hearing about your being ambushed alongside Leon and Maurice.

"You're lucky we came along, you know. You're out enough blood to paint a barn." Annalise seems a bit upset about having to treat your injuries immediately after finally reuniting with you. She crosses her arms and scrunches up her face.

You joke a bit with them. Pietra cracks a smile, but Annalise only sighs.

Soon, Leon and his Rangers catch up to you. They all dash through the trees, put of breath and relieved when they arrive to find no enemies, but a dozen bloody corpses. Leon spends some time greeting Annalise and Pietra again.

You all take a short break, catching up as you wait for Kor to return. She isn't as adept at moving through the forest as Leon and the Rangers, so it's likely she's just struggling a bit.

"Those fucking ice monkeys." Leon speaks with no hidden amount of disdain. "They try to raid the forest at least once a month, three times in winter. I guess they finally got fed up with dealing with our patrols and decided to bring a fight with them. I'm going to have to start doubling our watchers and sending everyone out with armor." Annalise puts a hand on his shoulder to calm him.

"I'm sure these ones were just outcasts. I've met northerners, they're not bad people."

"They hell they aren't! They're thieves, killers and deviants. No offense meant, Pietra." Pietra raises and eyebrow to this.

You tell Leon to take a deep breath and relax. He comes back at you with a short hiss, but does seem to try and gather himself more. The Rangers at his command only watch silently. It makes you wonder where Leon got such a rebellious attitude.

You ask Leon to tell you more about the northern tribes. He rubs his sinuses and sighs before answering.

"Up north, past the reach of the forest, are the ice lands. The lands of winter. Out there, there are no kings or cities. Tribes of men roam the frozen plains and mountains, foraging and hunting. Some old legends say they're descended from the first Rangers, but I think it's hogwash. There are five great tribes, which basically rule through number and organization. The smaller tribes bend for them, and some people say they have something that vaguely resembles civilization."

"It is a civilization." At this point Pietra chimes in, scowling at Leon. "The northmen told me there's a stone city, just like Lumen on the west shore. They even have knights."

"Well he lied. The northmen are barbarians and thugs. All they know how to do is fight amongst themselves, or fight others for coin."

"The northern lands are cold, most of the year. Some places thaw out and become green in the summer, but they are coveted. There's a lot of forest and plains-"

"And beautiful mountains, and sparkling lakes with water so pure you can see your own face in it's reflection, and even an enormous waterfall that's so big the bottom is pure mist and foam." Annalise smirks as she rattles of her praise of the north, to Leon's annoyance.

"The northern tribes include the Wild Rose, The White Pine, the Grey Talon, The Cutter Tails, and the Iron Sand. Terrible names-"

"They sound more poetic in the northern tongue." Annalise chimes in again.

"Egh! They're filthy names for filthy animals!" Leon seems just about fed up with the conversation. You try to change the subject to any sort of defenses you have against the north.

"Defense? For what? In case they try to storm us with their clubs and leather wrapped feet? The morons haven't even mastered tanning leathers properly, let alone forging steel from iron."

"That's not true. The northmen who helped us has true swords, and metal ringmail and plate. They even sparred with the inquis-"

"At any rate!" Leon cuts Annalise off with a roaring shout. "They can't be reasoned with. They're coming to take what isn't theirs, and we'll drive them back, just like we drive everyone back."

You put forth the idea of speaking to the northmen, rather than resort to violence off the bat.

"Tch. I'm telling you, it's a waste of your words. And I'm not going to put Rangers at risk so you can try to reason with a bunch of stupid apes." Leon steps away and toward his underlings. They still watch silently.

"Well I think it's the right thing to do. Maybe they attacked for a reason! We'll never know if we just assume the worst of them!" Annalise steps toward you, looping her arm around yours. You can see the anger rising in Leon as she nuzzles your shoulder.

"I don't care what we do." Pietra shrugs, inspecting her nails for dirt.

You try to convince Leon of the merits of speaking with the northmen. He sighs.

"Do whatever you like."

With that, you're free to go. Kor arrives not long after the conversation wraps up, out of breath but eager to see you. She scoops you up in an impressive embrace so tight that you can feel your spine pop. When she sets you back down, you explain the plan. She is more than eager to join you.

You decide to follow Leon back to the outpost to gather Maurice before you go. The walk back is silent, but thanks to Pietra it's anything but lonely. She spends most of it hanging off of you, to the point you can feel Annalise resisting the urge to smack her like a bad pup. As you near, you hear whistling high in the trees. Rangers signaling each other, as you've learned from their books. They mock bird calls to mask themselves from animals and enemies alike.

Back up in the trees, you find Maurice resting on the edge of a branch. He spits blood down at the distant ground and sips blue-white liquid from a small flask. When he sees you coming, he corks it and stands up to greet you. You waste no time telling him of the plan.

You decide it is better to have a day of rest before setting out again. After all, Annalise and the others have just arrived and there's a lot to catch up on.

You tell everyone to relax and unwind, and even Leon has it announced that you're to be treated as guests for your stay. The other Rangers don't like it, but they aren't known for petty disobedience. Leon disappears almost right after you announce your plan, as do Kor and Maurice, but Pietra and Annalise stick to you like glue.

"Let's go have a bath. I'm all dirty. Or if you like we can just go straight to your bed. You must be chomping at the bit." Pietra laughs evilly. Annalise isn't so forward.

You do the only reasonable thing to do is bring them to see the spawn of Leon. You don't tell them where you're going, but they do seem eager.

They follow you across the branch-bridges and up the stairs carved into the trees all the way to Leon's apartment. When you arrive, you knock gently in case of her being asleep. The door opens slowly, and Eva peeks out. She seems a bit surprised to see you all gathered, but she lets you in all the same. You explain to her about Pietra and Annalise, briefly going over your past, and soon she puts everything together. She welcomes them happily, letting you all take up the chairs in the sitting room.

"So what's the big secret? That Leon met a woman? Admittedly I never saw it coming, but it's hardly worth keeping us in the dark." Pietra pokes fun, and Eva seems to catch on to what you mean to do. As she doesn't protest, you assume it's alright.

You stand and motion for Pietra and Annalise to follow you. They do, albeit confused, and you open the bedroom door slowly and quietly.

You step into the room, telling them both to be silent. Annalise already seems excited, whether she knows what's coming or not. You bring them over to the small crate full of blankets and point down. Inside is a tiny baby girl with smooth skin and a patch of curly black hair. She is pudgy, and sucks on her fist as she coos in her sleep. You look up to see their reactions.

Annalise claps her hands over her mouth, stifling a scream. Her eyes sparkle with wonder, and she does everything in her power not to reach in and snatch the little child up and squeeze her. You watch as she silently dances in place, absolutely shaking with excitement.

Pietra is not to keen. She looks at the baby curiously, but doesn't seem interested in getting much closer. "She does sort of have Leon's stupid face. Guess I can't say it isn't his." At this point, she begins to stir in her crate, and looks up at the three of you. She glances around, and then rests her eyes on your face. She lets out a silent yawn, and then smiles. Eva enters, seeing all of you spread out in a circle around her baby. She smiles.

Almost immediately the baby begins crying.

Annalise stands and begins panicking, trying to rock her and quiet her with whispers. Eva giggles, and you can't help but join her as Annalise's eyes fill with tears again. Eventually, Eva takes her and soothes her. She assures Annalise that she's only cranky and doesn't mean anything by it.

You wait for the sharp vibrations to stop in your bones before you straighten back up and look at Pietra. When you do, Pietra's face has changed from furious to astonished.

You repeat your apology, and this time she is kind enough to listen.

"Can you blame me for being upset? All I wanted was one romantic night with you, and you refuse me. But as soon as Annalise wants a baby in her, you're open for business. How is that supposed to make me feel?"

You ask them both how they fare. Pietra lifts herself off of you and reveals a few bloodstains. Annalise does the same. All of you took cuts and bruises, but nothing near fatal. You suppose you've been in enough death battles by now to be somewhat skilled at them.

A black blur falls beside you, hitting the branch you sit on and shaking it gently. It rears up, and you see Leon. His face is splashed with blood and he still holds one of his twins in his right hand. After confirming you all to be in one piece, he sheathes his sword.

"Those fucking mongrels are going to pay. I've already tripled the lookouts. Tomorrow morning I'm riding out with you, and we're going to slice the throat of whoever calls himself their leader."

As Annalise begins healing you, already finished with Pietra and herself, Leon orders preparations to be made. He plans to bring three rangers with him, and is willing to let you bring two of your comrades.

She seems in good shape, and eager to help. You tell Annalise and Pietra to stay back and watch over Eva and the baby, and they agree.

Even wrapped in his robes, she makes him look like a child with her height and impressive muscles. He shrinks as she wraps her hands around him.

"Oh, please do be careful. I'm not very good at riding, and I'm a bit frightened. I hope you don't mind if I squeeze you when it gets bumpy." A grey cloud hovers over Maurice as the seven of you put the spurs to your horses and ride north.

The forest whizzes by you now. The horses are swift and skilled at dodging the trees. They're so good that you hardly feel any need to guide them, really.

It's dark by the time you near the edge of the forest, and the horses begin to tire. It's no wonder, as you kept them galloping at top speed for at least six hours. But soon you break free of the treeline, and enter a snowy field. In the distance you spot lights.

You follow Leon to his office, offering to help him finish so that he might be able to get to bed sooner. He smiles genuinely for the first time in a while, and the two of you head up and knuckle down together.

Most of Leon's job seems to be reading and stamping reports from the other Rangers. That, and compiling them into a briefing. You're a bit surprised how much bureaucracy there is to deal with in the Rangers. It takes nearly two hours to finish everything, and by the time you're done you can't feel your legs from exhaustion. As Leon finishes the last of his reports, you fold your arms on the table and rest your head for just a minute.

When you wake up, it's already near midday. Your back hurts, and there is a small puddle of your own drool on the table beneath your head. You rub your eyes and look around, and find that Leon is already gone. You suppose you should start getting ready to leave sometime soon.

You stand up and do your morning stretches. You really didn't get proper rest, but you'll have to make do. You head out the door to Leon's office and begin searching for Annalise and Pietra.

You ask around and eventually find the two of them sparring down on the forest floor. Annalise comes at Pietra with a blunted longsword, and Pietra seems to be doing her best to master the twins. The metal clashes as the two of them dance around each other. You sometimes envy the grace they have.

As you watch, Pietra begins taking the upper hand from Annalise, turning away her sword strokes with one weapon and lunging with the other, tiring her out quickly by forcing her to evade right after attacking.

You fold your arms and watch as Annalise and Pietra go at each other.

Annalise seems to gain a second wind, coming at Pietra with all her strength. Pietra, untrained in proper twin fighting, can think of no defense but to raise both swords to block her swings. Annalise finally gets in with a thrust, hitting Pietra in her stomach and knocking the wind out of her. As Pietra bends over reflexively, Annalise slides her hip beneath her and throws her over. Pietra hits the ground, arching her back to distribute the impact, and Annalise falls on her, grappling her and attempting to wrest the weapons from her hands.

The two of them roll on the ground, tangled with each other and struggling for dominance. Within moments, Annalise's hair looses itself and falls over her and Pietra both. At this point, the other Rangers discover the bout and stop their own training to admire the tenacity of both parties.

You step in as they viciously work to overpower each other and kneel down. They stop mid punch and look up at you. Their breathing is heavy and deep, and they are glistening with sweat. You try to speak quietly enough that none of the other onlookers can see you.

Annalise breaks away from Pietra quickly, regaining her feet and clutching herself nervously as her face fills with blood. "I-I-I d-don't but we're not-"

"Okay, let's go!" Pietra hops up and dusts off her hands. "Cmon, while my heart's still pumping!"

Have a good laugh and pull them both up. We should still have some time before we leave. Three way fight and then we cuddle in a private spot.

As an apology for the error, have a man with a lute.

You correct yourself, telling them you only meant sparring. Annalise catches her breath while Pietra gathers her weapons again. The Rangers begin to disperse when they realize the fight is over for now.

Annalise and Pietra take stances across from you, forming a triangle together. They still haven't fully caught their breath, and you wonder if you should go easy on them to start.

Yes, begin the fight.

And then later, when we beat them, we carry one over each shoulder to our love nest.

You take up a longsword and wait for the two of them to begin. You aren't too surprised when they lock eyes for a brief moment, and then both rush at you together. Pietra is the quickest, and lunges with one of her blunted twins. You knock the blade away, and she brings the other one around. You catch her hand in your free hand and turn her around, hugging her against your chest. She smiles up at you before kicking off the ground and flipping over you, bringing your hands with her. She does her best to restrain your wrists with her comparatively meager strength as Annalise charges at you.

>
>>
>>32921638
Twist around so that we are facing Pietra, then pivot so that Pietra's back is facing Anna's charge
>>
>>32921667
You manage to twist yourself around and reverse the hold, shoving Pietra into Annalise as she charges. They crash together and fall all over the ground. Pietra lands on all fours, and Annalise rolls back, rubbing her nose. Pietra tries to distract you by shaking her bottom at you, and you can't help but laugh a little.

>
>>
>>32921836
pick them up and put them on our shoulders. now let's find a bed.
>>
>>32921868
You reach down and help both of them up. Pietra laughs as Annalise grumbles over her sore nose. You reach around Annalise and lift her off the ground, tossing her over your shoulder like a bag of grain. She screams helplessly and you add Pietra to your collection. The two of them struggle, although Pietra clearly only does so for fun, and you carry them away laughing.

Eventually the three of you settle down in one of the common rooms. You kick one bed into another, making the total surface just large enough to fit you with your absurd frame. You toss the girls onto it together, and Pietra giggles uncontrollably. Annalise curls up and hides her face in a pillow.

>>32922131
Help nurse Anna's nose and have her relax. We take it nice and slow.

Have Pietra help and cozy up together. In fact, eventually we should be hugging both of them to our chest in a firm but gentle manner
>>
>>32922131

And we should say, "You know, back in Hollag, I remember jumping out the window carrying both of you like this."

>>32922211
You kneel on the bed with them and pull the pillow away from Annalise's face to see her nose. It doesn't look hurt, but she must have bumped it all the same. You kiss it, reddening her face even more, and twist around to lay on your back. You reach out and grab both of them, pulling them close to you. Pietra is having the time of her life, but Annalise still tries to bury her face on your chest to avoid making eye contact with anyone. Pietra presses herself against you, going so far as to wrap her leg around yours. You enjoy a quite period together, saying nothing but bonding just the same. In a few minutes, you can't help but begin to drift off to sleep.

You regain awareness a few hours later, still between Pietra and Annalise, only now Annalise seems to have overcome her shyness. She rests her head on your shoulder, just like Pietra, and the two of them even hold hands with their fingers intertwined on your stomach. You look around the room and see that it's nearly sunset. The door to the common room slowly opens, revealing a figure cloaked in black.

"The commander wishes to speak to, uh...speak to you." One of Leon's Rangers stares at you in your intimate position.

You tell the Ranger you'll be along shortly. He nods and shuts the door. You lay your head back and close your eyes, enjoying the sounds of gentle, steady breaths in each ear. If you are still enough, you can even feel all three of your heartbeats forming a rhythm together.

Time betrays you, and eventually you know you must rise. You reach your hands up and gently shake the girls' shoulders. Annalise grumble and buries her face in your chest, and Pietra takes your hand and slides it down to her hip instead. You sigh, and shake them once more, waking them. You explain the situation, and they reluctantly rise with you. The three of you stand and don your boots before heading out and up.

You find Leon in the Rangers' meeting room, sitting at the head of a table of very official looking men. They all wear unique pins, but you aren't sure of their meaning. Leon rubs his temples, and doesn't look up even when you enter.

You ask Leon what he needs, mentioning your contentment just minutes ago in the dark of the common room. Leon looks up and begins speaking.

"In the east, there are a set of lakes large enough to host sea battles. On these lakes, cities are built by descendents of northmen and men of the continent. Seven great cities with proud history. Those cities now number six, and one of them has been reduced to nothing but smoke and cinders in a day." You raise an eyebrow, unsure what Leon means by all this. "No army of men can crumble a city, stones and all in one day. No natural beast can hunt and kill so many men, women and children with no survivors. Not even the Great Lake Rangers could ride fast enough to discover the source of such a doom."
