( http://pastebin.com/KqWaKuej ) Character Sheet (Please review before posting, changes have been made.)

"The main problem is that creating what we want is normally a three step process." Gi'al says. "Normally you make the ingredients and mix them, from the actual base, first. In this case, apples from the Dra jungles. The second step is maturing the ingredients. This is what the rune does."

You've quickly discovered that your terrible cider is mostly terrible because of the fact that it's essentially alley wine. While it still gets you blasted-ass drunk, you would prefer to make a better product. After all, you're catering to a distinguished-ish crowd. "And the final step is fermentation." he says. "Since we're making something like wine, or hard cider, the process is somewhat simpler than brewing beers or malts or the like." he sighs. "Unfortunately, the documentation in the school is lackluster." he grumbles. "If we want better knowhow, we'll have to smuggle the proper books in."

"So... Not good stuff?" Tal says, sitting on the bed, tail whipping at the air. It's the third day of classes, and you've been working at trying to make good alcohol and...

Well, you wouldn't call it failure, exactly. It's certainly alcohol...ic. But nothing like what you want or need. This stuff is like apples fallen from the tree. Your process is too simple to yeild positive, worth-selling results, as it stands.

"The second problem is that we simply don't have the room here." Gi'al says with a heavy sigh. "We can't go gangbusters with testing and experimentation in such a tiny lab. So many problems..."

"Gi'al, can I ask you to look into those books for me, quietly?" you say, rising and walking over to the bottles in thought. "And Tal, can I ask you to find better equipment? Larger bottles, better ingredients, and so on?"

Nods all about. "And do either of you know where we could move the lab?"

They look at each other, and Tal taps his chin.
"Could smuggle off-grounds." he admits. "Build lab?"

You consider the option as you slide your fingers over the jars in steady thought. "Or could find cave or such. Might be dangerous."

"I'll think on it. Let's get going."

The others all head out to get a move on, and you smile at their departure, sitting down before the bottles. You've a few more bottles than before - and a goodly amount of juices. You tap your chin in thought. The salient points are thus:

>Things placed inside a jar marked with Decay have time acceleration based on the rune used. The larger the rune, the faster the time. The smallest rune increases the time enough to mature the product a few days an hour. The largest, a few years. Your middling one, a few weeks. The longer you mature, the stronger it gets. Usually.
>An erased rune reverses the effect immediately.
>The matter inside the bottle retains properties after leaving it - brewed stuff stays brewed, but is no longer experiencing time dilation once it leaves.
>Finally, you have no idea what Sickness does to a jar. You've yet to test it.

I want to see what would happen if we were to carve the decay rune onto an actual apple. Or freeze juice in the shape of a decay rune.

I also want to see what happens if we pump juice through a decay filter in a loop. I'm wary of the sickness rune. It might do something neat, but more likely it will just make bacteria-infested slop.
>>

You consider the ramifications of the jar positioning - they're set on a shelf in your closet in a line - smallest mark to largest. Unfortunately, you don't have a pump yet, but with some thought on the matter and some theorycrafting, you have some reasonable assumptions. You'll need to ask Tal to acquire some things before setting it into motion.

You immediately dismiss the errant thoughts regarding your associates and runing yourself. For one thing, becoming too aggressive with them would likely turn them to betrayal at worst, or simple departure at best. You file away the thoughts, but you decide not to act upon them, immediately.

>Theory gained: Rune application (Decay, Barrel) Causes further time dilation, and possibly a more focused shot at brewing, pickling, and the like.
>Theory gained: Rune application (Decay, Fluid pump) Causes adjustable time dilation on a finer level than with a simple container. Possibly speeds time-based preparation of things.
>Theory gained: Meta-Rune application (Decay, Jars) Do runes in proximity of each other affect one another, in some way?
>Theory dismissed: Rune application (Decay, Self) Too much risk. Likely to cause irreversible damages to the self, even if it is simply traced.
>Theory gained: Rune application category: (Decay, Other) Does the location matter? What occurs when traced on a living thing? Need a test subject to implement properly.

You file away these experiments for the moment, coming to an overarching conclusion: You don't have the resources for much more than theorycrafting at the moment. You need a better locale and equipment.

You gather some simple provisions, writing a quick note about your plans, and stretch before setting out. You hardly make it to the entrance, before someone calls out to you.

You turn around to see a young man your age in a white uniform with yellow trim. He walks with straight posture, arms behind his back. A satchel with the same pattern rests on his hip - an emblem of a small dove with closed wings on the pack. The symbol of new Law.

"Excuse me." he says, approaching. "You seem to be heading outside of the school grounds. I should warn you - It's very dangerous some ways out. We are surrounded on three sides by the jungles of the Dra kingdom, after all. The protections from Bahamut only extend so far."

"...What's your name?" you ask, slouching a little. The two of you contrast, you note, your grey clothing against his white uniform. "I'm Magnus."

"Antemus." he says, extending his hand, in a white glove. You shake it quietly.

"Any reason for your interest in my... excursion? It doesn't really involve you."

"The safety of my classmates is my primary concern, due to my position in the Student Council this year." he says, "Apologies if I seem to be nosy. I just want to keep you safe." he says. His appearance is handsome, short black hair over bright blue eyes and a slightly tanned complexion. Features of the mountain people from the central continent's northern areas and the capital's breed intermingle in his form in a rather pleasing way, lending him slightly exotic features. "I hope you understand."

Yes, yes it is wrong. You can't train someone to be more confident and charismatic than you are, it's the kind of thing you're born with. Like no one taught Yugo how to be a sexual tyrannosaurus, he was born with a big heart and love of life.

And Gi'al took after his father much more than his mom, which means he's likely gifted in being a crossdressing bondage doll.

"Sorry, but it's none of your business." you say with a light smile, leaning back. His face only loses its unreadability for a moment - dissapointment - and he nods.

"Take care, then. May Law watch you with an even gaze." he turns to go and you relax, heading out the doors. The grounds are beautiful, the building sitting atop a hill overlooking deep woods which soon progress to jungles. Slipping down one side of the hill, you come to rest near the edge of the woods. You scratch your chin in thought, looking around the area. You do have a sharp, sharp knife, about four inches long, for carving runes - but you don't explicitly need it. You can draw the rune with your fingers, so long as you remember where the lines go, and it'll slide into effect for a few minutes. Erasing any rune you've made, even carved, can be done with your thumb with one wipe.

You pass deeper into the woods, looking about in thought.

You slip into the clearing, seeking about and seating yourself on a stump in the center. It's a big clearing, nice and wide. You're about to lay back when you feel something near your feet.

It's a pulsing... something. Like a lump of meat, oozing red, a pink and white mess that sludges about. As you watch it, it puffs up, then shrinks with a sound like someone blowing a raspberry. The grass it touches shrinks into its form, dissappearing.

You reach down with a stick and lightly poke it. the thing ripples, swelling suddenly and then blowing a raspberry at you. Then a psuedopod slaps out and grasps the stick, pulling it from your hand and eating it with loud snapping noises. It's only a little larger now, eating the grass around it slowly and relaxing with a light burbling sound of escaping air, flattening between your feet as you watch it.

This area, you figure, is large enough for a decent lab. It's a little out of the way, but that is ideal. You could keep looking if you want.

Tal is bearing a sack, but Gi'al, who looks nervous, seems emptyhanded.

"Is good for now." Tal says, laying down his bag full of things. Jars, beakers, barrels, apples, oranges, grapes, and some wheat. He carefully sets it all out before you - ten more jars, five beakers, a lot of apples, a lot of oranges, plenty of grapes, a single barrel (compact, but still pretty large compared to the glass items).

"No." he says, "I just, I don't like the outdoors much." he admits. You rub your chin in thought. "I p-promise."

You wave it off. He doesn't seem the type to lie, and Tal is bouncing a little, looking around. His golden eyes glimmer in the sunlight.
"Was good hunting." he says, "Now what?"

You sit down, selecting one each of the fruit, carefully carving Decay into each. Your eyebrows raise - while the apple and the orange both actually rot into a disgusting fluid on the floor, the grape turns into a raisin in your palm. Bob eats the mess and burbles contentedly, as you try cutting up the apple and applying the rune again - larger - to the apple, which dries into something edible. The orange, however, still subsumes into rotfluid.

"Curious." you say, mind sharply focused on the task. You can hear Gi'al behind you taking notes as you work.

>How would you like to experiment with the present equipment?
>>
>>32905678
Dammit Karl, just because you're the New God doesn't mean you should change the rules Willy-nilly.
>>
Experiment with your dick on Gi'al's ass

But more seriously, try mixing chopped up fruit of more than one type of fruit into a container, then trace decay into the container.

Also, try feeding Bob with something that has Sickness on it.

Also, try surrounding Bob with a circle of Decay runes
>>
>>32905883
let's give up on the orange for now, at worse, we'll use them for cocktails.

hmm...
maybe we could try making some wheat alcohol and mixing it with some orange juice, to improve the taste.
oh, and maybe we should filter it too
>>
>>32905883
Alright, so, the larger the rune, the quicker the decay effect? Slow decay equals rot, quick decay equals dessication? Oranges have a much higher fluid composition than apples, which would go some way to explaining why they respond differently. Maybe it's relative to the size of the item which the rune is being inscribed onto? That would explain why the grape reacted differently.

So we basically just need to work out the correct rate of decay, and the correct rune size, to create a usable product.
>>
>>32905883
chopped fruit, crushed fruit, singular and mixes of multiple kinds. see how these react to different sized runes in different containers, and also whether or not adding sickness runes will do anything (there's a couple alcohols that use bacteria instead of yeast, I think)

while we're waiting for results, flirt with Gi'al and Tal, and try to get to know them a bit better as well

gotta go this
we need a threesome soon

We kind of don't

technically not
but it'd be nice, and we did promise Gi'al one before the end of the week

You hum to yourself as you work, and discover the following properties of the runes:

>Larger Decay runes mean quicker effects.
>Speedier decay results in life not being able to recycle the ruined parts, resulting in dessication and dryness.
>Slower decay results in rotting.
>Smaller objects and dryer objects require smaller runes to desiccate as opposed to rot.
>Decay on the barrel is a rousing success, resulting in your first successful batch of a simple hard cider in just under an hour. However, its yield is minimal. You'll need to find a larger barrel before you want to do more. Also, juicing the apples is a labor and a half, and you lose a significant amount of the juices in the process at almost each step.

>Sickness on fruit discolors it somewhat to your vision, but no one else's.
>A small sickness rune resulted in Bob spitting the substance back out and giving a loud, pointed raspberry.
>Sickness on bottles did the same for fruit, applying it to the space. This allows - you suppose - for powdered poisons and similar.
>You've no idea if the poison in Sickness is contagious.

You and Tal and Gi'al stand over the first full barrel of the cider. It's not amazing - but it is palatable, from your small tastings.

But what about
>surround Bob with Sickness and Decay runes
>>
>>32907574
Right, who are we selling this to?
>>
>>32907574
celebrate our first success by drinking it

let the drunken shenanigans begin
>>
>>32907574
maybe if we had a press of some sort we could just crush the apple hard enough to get juice...
maybe we can replace the "larger barrel" with more barrels of that size (could also reduce the loss in case of a fuckup)

but now, let's PARTY
>>
>>32907674
>>32907688
drink all the booze and fuck all the critters
>>
>>32908218

What happens if we stick our dick in Bob?
>>
>>32908380
it will probably digest it
might be pleasurable for one second, but will probably not be worth the loss
>>
>>32908409

We should research a way on how to give Bob a mind, so we can fuck a slimeboy.
>>
>>32908442
feed him someone who pisses us off, maybe he'll assymilate the ability to think?
>>

too much risks that he'll assimilate the ability to piss us off too/first
>>
>>32908728

What about that asshole that tried to stop us from going out here?
>>
>>32908442
Shouldn't we first just reset what the fuck Bob is?

Could be a fragment of Clown or something.
>>
>>32908762
I think we should kill Law
>>
>>32908762

Which is why I want to put him in a containment circle.

Also, do we know what runes Gial and Tal are?
>>
>>32908758
Bit too early in the quest to be a murderous sociopath, isn't it?
>>

I agree that he needs to die, but let's not turn Bob into Bob Law

I suppose

ALSOOOOO

I have a new idea for an experiment:

An array of Decay runes in the shape of one large decay rune.
>>
>>32908905
You're a madman

I like it
>>
>>32908905
that doesn't sounds dangerous at all..
let's fucking do it
>>
>>32908905
Do the same thing, but a sickness rune made out of decay
>>
>>32908905
speaking of runic arrays, could we mimic the powers of Heal by scribing a Sickness rune inside a Decay array, causing Decay of sickness rather than matter?

Also other experiments: Decay runes in the shape of a large Disease rune, Disease runes in the shape of a large Decay rune, Disease runes in the shape of a large disease runes.

Also, my earlier idea. Pic related

>we mimic the powers of Heal by scribing a Sickness rune inside a Decay array, causing Decay of sickness rather than matter
So a decay rune made of decay runes would cause a decay of decay? Wouldn't carving that on our body make us biologically immortal?
>>
>>32909064
If that theory's right, it'd be putting a decay rune inside another decay rune that'd do it. Making an array of runes in the shape of themselves should theoretically just amplify their effect exponentially rather than change their intent

What if you had them runes interchanging inside the larger rune?
>>

That's not even madness yet.

We haven't even gone into doing three layers of rune arrays yet.

>>32909264

One moment.

Oh god.

I wasn't prepared.

I have to check my notes.

I have to rewrite my notes.

Alright so here's the deal

Runes are applied to objects. They change that object. They don't generate a field or work with each other to make one, except in specific circumstances.

So Rune Arrays wouldn't really work. But they almost could, if I changed some things. But I'd need some time to rejigger shit.

Also, they'd be dangerous. Very. Very. Dangerous.

So. Include them and redo? Or disinclude them and continue?
>>
>>32909773
The more mechanics the more fun this will be
>>
>>32909773
Include them
Danger is never a bad thing

>>
>>32909773
include
>>
>>32909773
Eh, I'm fine with not changing the system.

Just mark it in our notes as something runes can't do.

That too, is science.
>>
>>32909773
include!
>>
>>32909773

>>
soooo ded thred?

good job guys, you broke the quest already
>>
>>32912182
we broke the quest when we rolled for runes and made EGO toss out his notes the first time
>>
>>32912215
true, but whats happening now? we just all waiting for him to post or something?

I'm also not seeing why making arrays work requires a complete redo of the systems and notes, just make them apply to specified objects within the array, it just allows for much deeper levels of experimentation and more refined/defined subtle layers of results, positive and negative, it ain't a rework, more an expansion
>>
>>32912274
My guess is that the Big Bad was going to be the first person to think of using runes like this, or something
>>
>>32912332
anon, theres always going to be someone to one-up you, always

so whats the go with the thread though? it finished for this week?
>>
>>32912453
Which is why EGO's gotta rethink things. If we came up with part of his endgame this early, he'd need to rework shit, because that's how EGO works
>>
Someone gonna archive this or what?
