PREVIOUS EPISODES: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Ghost+Busters

LAST EPISODE: Yasuo was a dependable P-COC worker, promoted team synergy, and helped the Ghostbusters clean up their act.
- - -

You and your teammates duck as another barrage of clothing racks are hurled in your general direction.

"Next time we go to Harajuku," Sato says. "We bring Fabric Softener."

"Don't know if that would help." You say.

The Rag-Woman Ghost lets out another wail and sprays another wave of needles in your general direction.

This isn't a big thing, for the record. It's a Class 4 manifestation that's taken the form of a woman made out of 'off market,' 'out of style,' and 'bargain bin' Harajuku dresses. A typical manifestation of a general sense of despair, loneliness, and the desire to be other than what people are. Add in some Black Slime build-up in the sewers, and the Lunar Conjunction, and all it takes is a old dress, thoughtlessly discarded onto the ground over an oozing crack in the pavement, and voila.

She wasn't big on talking either, going straight to mayhem and destruction.

So...they knew who to call.

Which is why you're dealing with being assaulted by last month's fashions.

I dunno if it's just me, but I'm really getting tired of "slime blower" being our go to weapon.

I know it's related to the game's mechanics and that's wonderful, but nerf it for the sake of it being our go-to weapon.

Or just make the other weapons more stronger
pls no nerf
Besides, it's just plain simple procedure for possesions. Slime/Stasis to slow it down and then hit them with the proton stream.

It isn't a cure-all either.

It's less effective of more typical ethereal and transparant ghosts, who DO require the proton stream.

In the same way we save the Meson collider for the undead.

Let's not break our roll with a Ghost Roll now
>>
>>32885196
By "nerf," I don't necessarily mean "make weaker," but rather we encounter enemies which require using our other attacks.

Maybe we simply run out of "low hanging fruit" so to speak and start facing ghosts that require a blast to the face rather than getting positive energy ooze squirted on them.
>>
>>32885268
We've encountered enemies that required our other attacks. We use the Stasis Stream alot. Hell, we use the Proton Beam quite abit too, the only thing we rarely use is the Meson Collider.

We've never used the Slime Tether, now that I think about it. That gives us a whole new strategy.
>>
Rolled 3

>>32885268
There are certainly a lot of enemies we could encounter of which slime wouldn't work, for example very large armored Golems would be useless aganist slime, we would have to blast out it's armor exposre the core and wrangle it out with the stream.

Generally speaking Slime wouldn't work on anything BIG.

Flying swarms of little enemies too would be better suited to be blasted away by the Stasis Shotgun feature, as Slime wouldn't have the reach.

>>32885315
We did use it that one time to tie down those cultists, and it'd be useful if we need to move very large objects we couldn't possibly do it ourselves.
>>
>>32885384
Dude, turn off your dice. You nearly got us a ghost roll.
>>
>>32885418
Ghost Rolls only count when they're in the first three dice.
>>
>>32885418
Also 3 is the lucky number in Oriental numerology. It sounds like life where 4 sounds like death
Implying 3 isn't the best number anyway
>>
>>32885315
Certainly true. I'm just sick of having slime blower being the go-to option when, at least from what I've experienced of the Ghostbusters franchise, the go-to option should be Proton beam.

I don't hate the slime blower, I just think it's used too much.

>>32885384
>a lot of enemies we could encounter of which slime wouldn't work

Okay. Let's see more of them. That's my point. Maybe some ghosts where slime blowers hypothetically would work on have to be whittled down with another weapon in order to be sprayed effectively. Shake us out of our "dogmatic slumber" with regards to our weapons.
>>
Rolled 19, 20, 10 = 49

>>32885190
Your spray hit the dress that was the cause of the trouble in the first place, it bursts into sparks as the black slime reacts violent with the posi-slime.

The others open up with proton streams at the now very open target's core.
>>
>>32885491
Eh, if people want to use the slime thrower, let them use the slime thrower. Changing everything and making it useless just because people like using it is stupid.

Besides, usually one or two of the others hits the proton beam, so we're fine.

"So, with this job, how are we doing?" Sato asks.

"Skating by." Akira says with a sigh. "We'd be more in the black if we didn't give as much to help out the Zone."

"Yeah, but that isn't us." Sato says. "And Sachiko hasn't shot our sign in days. I'd like to keep that going."

"Yeah, yeah." Akira says. It looks like he's just happy to be back to simply busting Ghosts and not having to negotiate. "Anyway, this'll cover the usual power costs, the Zone help, and keep us in noodles and dumplings for another week."

"Can't we talk Kali or Rini into throwing another party or taking us out to dinner again?" Star asks as she walks us.

"I think they're working on that Sanctuary idea too much to be willing to party." Sato says.

"They're not heeding the warning we gave them?" You ask. "The one Yasuo said he got from a psychic?"

"I can't believe none of us are even doubting that in the slightest." Akira says with a chuckle.

"They're staying clear of the building and watching it for us, but there's legal stuff to deal with, people to call, and plenty of other stuff to do that doesn't involve going inside." Sato says. "So, they're just waiting for us to go inside the trap that's waiting for us."

"Yipee." Akira says as you all go up on the train station and wait.

"There's that job that Rini's friend has." Star says.

"You mean the stealing job." Akira says.

"She claims its a rescue." Star says.

"Hmph." Akira says.

"Why didn't we take YOMI again?" Sato complains as the train arrives and you fight against the human traffic.

"YOMI needs an oil change and tune up." Akira says. "Plus Harajuku isn't THAT far."

Sachiko, and Kali are happy to join you for dinner...provided that they don't have to provide much else other than drinks.

"Where's the old guy?" Akira asks.

"The old man is helping with the hospice care group I found for him, this evening." Kali says. "He says that one of their patients is about to pass on, and he wishes to be there to feed."

"I THOUGHT we had a deal." Akira says.

"Yes, and he's holding to it. He takes the very very last breath of the dying. As per tradition. It's his ONLY feeding source. That's why Fait-Sachiko and I got him that job. He's very good at comforting the dying."

"And that last breath isn't like...eating their souls, right?" Star asks.

"And don't you dare look at my sister like a meal." You say.

You bow to her, and then you hug her.

She doesn't hug you back, but doesn't push you away. She just stands there stiffly.

This is not normal for her. Well, you suppose it's normal for a regular person, but you remember Kaede as being a standard, mildly happy (If stressed about exams) girl. She had friends, she obsessed over her scores in light gun games at the arcade (her one weakness), and she was struggling with French but forcing her way through it. (She's wanted to go to Paris ever since she learned how to say the name.)

This Kaede who is quietly taking her seat at the table...is different.

She did bring some good food with her. It's a mix of American fried chicken, club sandwiches, some baked goods, and a lot of rolls and croissants.

You get the feeling that most of this stuff is day-old and she got it for either cheap or free.

No one else minds, cares, or probably notices.

The dinner conversation is lively. The trio are describing the Harajuku fight, and Kali is reminded of her adventures in the area from decades ago. Sachiko keeps talking about the Zone and improvements, and her own escapades in Harajuku when she still had hopes of being a ballerina like the rest of her family.

It's just another lively, animate, dinner with your friends and neighbors and the food is good, and in the back ground, Yurei is playing the Chyme. She's discovered how people can play pop hits on string quartets and has fallen in love. So the Factory is often filled with that kind of sound.

(She's respecting your wishes and not appearing in person so to not freak out Kaede.)

Kaede just sits there. Silently. Staring at a slightly droopy club sandwich on her paper plate.

"K, that wasn't the same uniform I saw you wearing on the train." You ask. "It's only been a few hours between then and now. Are you working at two places?"

She nods. "Sango is nice. I told him about our meeting and he let me have the night off."

"You work nights at Sango's and you work days at some place else?" You ask. "What about school?"

"I don't work at the Harajuku cafe every day." She says. "I was lucky, and on weekends I work in Akihabara at that brand new Gundam cafe."

"You work THREE jobs?!" You ask. "And then you go back to an empty house?"

She just shrugs.

"You've dropped out of school." You say. It's not a question.

She shrugs again.

Getting angry at mom and dad is pretty pointless since we're the reason they lost their jobs and now have to subsist on minimum wage positions and triple shifts.
Getting angry at anyone besides ourselves just shows how selfish we are and unable to face the consequences of our actions.
"How badly in debt are you?"
Better that we help to actually support them than just putting Kaede in danger. Or did people forget we regularly get injured on this job?
>>
>>32889908
>>32889926
No, it doesn't work, because we're the one who put dad into tht position in the first place.
If we had just bowed our head and apologized, then things wouldn't have gotten this bad.
It is our pride, our self-righteousness, our stubbornness that keeps us from conforming.

If he HAD apologized then thing might have been better, but he hasn't, and I pointed out the reasons that he won't.
Namely that Daisuke is stubborn, prides himself on his sense of Justice, and does what he thinks is right, no matter the cost, no matter te collateral damage.

We are proud of our Just act

That's the old guard mindset, mind you. The younger generations are becoming more westernized in their outlook, though.

"We...ummm...you know our Secretary is always complaining about needing help, and she keeps having to step out to go to auditions. There's an opening, and the hours are negotiable."

She still doesn't look at you. "No. Thank you for the offer. I have a good job already."

You run your hand through your hair. "Kaede...please...please just look at me. Tell me what I can do to help."

She looks up at you. "Father thinks if you apologize to his superior, things will get better. His son went to the same school as you." She shakes her head. "But it's too late for that. Professors have confessed, people have...acted rashly, and other people have come forward. You know they had to close the school temporarily, and anyone at Father's company who had a degree from there were encouraged to either resign, or take a lesser position? The name was tainted."

"Is it still?" You ask.

She shakes her head. "No. I don't think so. It doesn't matter to me."

"What about school for you? What about your plan to go to Paris?" You ask.

She shrugs. "My teacher was afraid of me. I think she was glad to see me go."

"Why?" You ask.

"She was having an affair. Everyone knew about it...but she thought that I would tell." She picks at her sandwich. "But I left before things got awkward. And Paris was a silly dream."

"K, please...at least let me give you some money. We've been making plenty of money, most of it goes to bills, but Sachiko can pay this week's fees herself, cause when I tell her this is family she'll be okay with it."

"No. Thank you for the offer." Kaede goes back to looking at her sandwich. "Your money isn't needed."

Come on, Daisuke is a social leper, probably the worst reject in the Reject Zone. I wouldn't be surprised if people spread some salt after he walks by.
Anything Daisuke touches is tainted; any help he tries to give to his family would only make the situation worse.

That's why help has to come from influential people that are immune to Daisuke's taint, people who have enough money to make problems go away. Such as that youkai we need to do a job for.

Your sister quietly rubs her hands under the table. "A little."

You get up from the table and motion for her to follow. "Come over here. We've got this...this product. It's good for chaffed hands and its very mild and very soothing." You say. "Looks a little weird out of the package, but I'd like you to try a little."

Kaede smiles a little. "You know...this does feel a little soothing. It tingles too."

Suddenly there's a horrible rattling sound that echoes throughout the entire factory.

You hear Sachiko scream in pain and you turn around just in time to see her collapse onto the ground.

Then the Chyme that's on the table where you and Kaede have the bucket sparks red and Yurei bursts out of it, her body crackling with red PKE and her face in clear pain.

Kaede, naturally freaks out at seeing a ghost pop out of nowhere like that, and jumps backwards, knocking the bucket of slime all over her front.

She staggers back towards the large factory sink, hyperventilating, and you can see the slime turning slightly darker.

"Kaede!" You say. "Calm do-"

There's another rumble and the sink, the emergency chemical shower, the hose, the bath, and the overhead sprinklers all turn on at once. Spraying the entire place with water.

Only when you look at it when it hits you, you see that it's blackish, foul, and it reeks. It's not slime though, just water.

However, Kaede's slime covered hands are touching the rapidly filling sink.

There's an eruption of water in the sink, and standing in the large square basin is a little girl. She's obviously been drowned for ages by her bloated, puckered skin. Long black hair hangs across her face, and a baleful pair of eyes stare at you. Both indicators of her 'heritage' as an Avatar of Oiwa.

She also has a bright red Hello Kitty child's purse slung around her shoulder.

"Brother..." Kaede says.

And in an instant the little hell-brat puts her arms around Kaede's shoulders and drags her into the sink!

"NO!" You make a lunge, but you stop as massive pain zaps through your body. You hear the other Ghostbusters cry out in pain as well. You look down to see that there's red PKE energy lancing up your body. It HURTS.

SPLASH! The girl drags Kaede into the sink and there's a big splash of that filthy black water.

Someone is grabbing your shoulder and shaking it. You come out of the haze of red and see that it's Sato.

"Come on!" He says pushing your pack into your hands. "We're going. Now!"

"Seriously?" Kali asks as she looks at the other two instantly suiting up and racing to get YOMI-1 operational. "You KNOW it's a trap."

"WE DON'T CARE!" All four of the Ghostbusters shout as one.

"Damnit..." Sachiko says getting up off the floor. "I have had e-fucking-NOUGH of that bullshit!" She runs out the door. "Give me three minutes!" She yells.

"You can't be..." Kali sighs.

It takes you half that long to get YOMI to operational mode. Thankfully, Sachiko only needed that amount of time for her to get her bow, quiver, arrows, and that large staff with the rings on it.

There are no words said, there is no time to make plans, there is only forward.

You tear down the street to the far end of the zone, siren blaring, and violence in your eyes.

You can see the hotel now. The girl isn't being subtle now, you see water damage all over the place, and some of the windows are leaking.

There was a fence around the place, but Akira took no notice of it as he plows through it and parks YOMI-1 in the entrance courtyard.

It's bigger than you thought it would be. Apparently it was an hotel that also had office space, condos, daycare facilities, a medical center, movie theater, and there's supposed to even have been a full tea garden with pagoda on the top. It was a pipe dream of an 'arcology' where people could live, work, play, be born and even die all in one place. The kind of dream that the economic bubble of the 80s naturally fostered and then, also naturally, collapsed in on itself.

There's a man standing in front of the main doors. He's dressed in a filthy business suit that looks like it's covered in algae. He's also wearing a fedora. Also filthy.

"A kappa?" Kali says.

"THAT'S a kappa?" Sachiko asks.

"Well, a badly glamored one." Kali says. "And no, knocking its hat off won't kill it. Just weaken it. But it shouldn't even BE here. Kappas don't like Tokyo."

"Are they hostile?" Sato asks.

"Territorial more like it." Kali says.

"Screw it. I'm running him over and making a new door." Akira says.

"Hang on!" Star says. "Look!"

The kappa is waving a white handkerchief.

"I'm going to go talk to him. Cover me." You say. "Kali, come with me, so he doesn't try anything or hide anything."

A nod of agreement from everyone.

You all get out of the van, and the others take a bead on the kappa. You and Kali walk towards him.

"Give me back my sister." You say.

"Release Mitsuko's cousin and aunt." The kappa says.

"Who?"

"Sadako and Kayako." The kappa says. "And ALL of Kayako, not just her weak part."

"What are you doing?" Kali asks. "This...this is wrong on so many levels. You've broken so many rules."

He points a moist, scaled, finger at you. "THEY broke them first. You come into the Shadows and make your own rules, knock over game boards, and throw everyone for a loop...and you think there wouldn't be a reaction?"

"Okay, so they pissed you off, but you know what you're risking here with this? You're asking for a lot more trouble than just being locked up for a while." Kali pauses and then tilts her head. "Fuck me. You're aware of that. What's the con?"

"Doesn't concern you, shadow-puppet." The kappa says. "You'll get yours."

"Shadow-pup...you're actually calling me..." Kali frowns and puts her hands on her hips. "I've heard it before you know, how the Dark times will come again, how the humans will be beaten back into their caves and their fires dimmed and blah blah blah. Didn't happen any of those times. Isn't gonna happen now."

The kappa just gives her a smug grin.

"And this just tells me that you're scared of them." Kali points at you. "And THAT is the most ridiculous thing out of all the ridiculous crap that's been going on."

"Enough." The kappa looks at you. "Lady Mitsuko has your sister. She can be drowned in less than three minutes. Turn over the other two Avatars of Oiwa, in their full glory, or we'll drown her, and toss her from off of the roof so you won't even have enough to bury her."

> I've got a counter-offer. Release my sister and we will give her back her face. I can make the call now. Before the moons are up, she will be able to rest.
>>
>>32893623
They don't want that. Oiwa herself does, but they don't care about putting a human spirit to rest.

They're youkai and they want humanity back in the stone age.

We REALLY should send some forces back to the base.
>>
>>32893623
> And before she decides, she should think long and hard about this. Because she wants an ending. We can give her that. But part of endings is a sacrifice, on both sides. A letting go, so something new may be gained. Because if we hold onto something tightly, if we decide to make things even harder and higher, we can't just step off stage easily. We can only fall.

"Fuck you." You draw your wand and blast him briefly in the stomach. Then you spin around and point it at the others.

"You give her back RIGHT NOW, or we cross the streams!" You shout out loud. "And if you know ANYTHING about us, you KNOW what that means!"

The kappa gets back up from being knocked down, and coughs. He puts a hand to his ear for a moment, and then shakes his head. "You're bluffing." He says. "That'd kill her, you, this zone, and most of Japan...if not more."

"I can think of plenty of beings that could step in and minimize the damage." Kali says. "So it'd probably just be most of Tokyo." She looks at you nervously. "But...seriously? You don't know these guys like I do. They'd do this. Especially if you kill the girl."

"This act would kill the girl." The kappa says.

"Yes." You say. "It'd kill Kaede and me, and Sachiko, the others, and even Kali...but do you want to know what it would do to YOU, your 'lady,' and any other ghost you have in there? You'd be obliterated. To the last atom of your being, your energy wouldn't be dispersed or transformed or altered. It would be GONE. You think that the afterlife, or whatever comes AFTER the afterlife is no-big-deal? If you don't give me back my sister, I will send you all to FUCKING OBLIVION!"
The kappa swallows and then holds up his hand.

"Okay...okay. Don't...don't do anything stupid!" He says

"Bad advice to them." Kali says.

"Yeah..." He says. "Yeah...okay."

The Kappa frowns and tugs on his collar. "Fuck man, you KNOW that shit does what they say it does! No I DO think they'd do it..."

"Okay...okay." He says. "You four walk in, no packs, no toys, no shit like that, and we'll let her walk out and leave with the priestess and the vampire."

> Deal, show us Kaede first.

"Deal." You say. "Swear it. Swear that she'll be released, safe, unharmed, into Sachiko and Kali's protection, and that NONE of you will EVER get so much as NEAR her again!" You hold your wand right under the kappa's chin.

"I swear that she'll be released safely, and...and all of that stuff you just said!" You say. "For the love of the Shadows and Her Vengeance show them the girl!" He shouts.

The door opens and you see two teenage girls who are wearing surgical masks, standing there. They're holding a wet, shivering, and terrified looking Kaede.

"Kuchisake-onna." Kali says. "Never thought I'd see yokai that make those ko-gal rabbits look classy." She holds up a hand to you and the others. "They'd be fast enough to rip out her throat before you zapped them."

"Disarm!" One of the girls says.

The four of you slowly take off your packs.

"Kick them away." The other says. You all obey.

"Let her go." You say.

The pair walk Kaede outside into the courtyard.

The kappa motions with his head. "You four, walk into the hotel. We'll let her go when you cross the threshold. Then we'll take you to her ladyship."

Kaede looks at you. She sobs.

"Why do you hate me?" She asks.

"I..."

She sobs and looks away from you.

"Aww...poor girl." One of the teenagers says. "Big brother just keeps on hurting her."

"Maybe if she was pretty, things wouldn't be so bad."

"Oh yes! If she was pretty, she'd get whatever she wants."

"Don't you dare!" Kali says.

"Shut up, hag!" One of the Kuchisake says.

"You four, walk inside. Now."

"Wouldn't it be nice to be pretty?" One of the women says.

"Pretty like us?"

"We get whatever WE want."

"Have a look!"

One girl puts a hand over her eyes, and the other puts two hands over her ears. You see Kaede relax. She's being shown a vision, a tempting vision.

"Move or the girl gets it!" The kappa snaps.

"You're stronger and more beautiful than you think you are, Kaede!" You yell.

"YOU!" You yell at the Kappa. "You swore cucumber-muncher! Tell them to back off or else!"

The kappa smirks at you. "They aren't harming her, and if the kid ASKS for it, then it's okay! They aren't gonna kill her."

The girls stop and put a hand over Kaede's mouth.

"One second sweetness." One of the girls say. "You really think we're that dumb? We've seen all the movies. Inside. Now. Or we get to hear what your little sister's decision is."

The other GBs look at you. Technically, all you need to do to follow their command is walk three steps and you'll be past the threshold of the door to the arcology hotel.

Your pack isn't that far from where you are. If you make a dive and got lucky you could crack off a blast, and you can tell that Kali is sick of this shit, and she's fast too.

If you dived for Kaede though, you might be able to pull it off. The girls would probably rip you to shreds...but you could get to her and keep her safe.

You're not sure what happened. You dived for her, you felt a rush of wind, a LARGE amount of pain along your back, and then there was a ringing sound.

Then you're on the ground, holding Kaede, and there's the sound of proton blasts, and screams, and more ringing.

Kaede looks at you for a moment, and then hugs you. She sobs.

You hold her for a moment, and then you look up.

Akira and Sato are using the Meson collider and proton beam to continue to pul the black, bloody, mass of seaweed that used to be a kappa.

Kali has ripped one of the Kuchisake's heads off, and she's in the middle of drinking the second one dry.

The second kuchisake has blood on her taloned hands, that's probably yours judging by the wet feeling that your back has.

Sachiko has been banging that staff of hers and every time she does, the remains of the three yokai all...wince in pain...is your best description.

Kaede sniffs and looks at you. "I remember when I woke you up in the middle of the night because I thought there was a monster under my bed."

You nod.

"You sat in my room with a baseball bat the whole night."

You nod.

"Thank you for being the scary thing for scary things." She hugs you again. This time it's different. You return it.

Twenty minutes later, thanks to the First Aid kit in YOMI, you're patched up. It wasn't too bad. You've had worse.

Kaede is staying with Sachiko and Kali at her temple, and they're gonna watch the Factory for you.

You four however, are fucking settling this. Tonight.

You're not letting them come after Kaede again, and you are NOT letting this go.

So what if it's thirty floors filled with hostile yokai, yurei from hell, and a demon brat at the top?

They're all scared of you, and they did one really really stupid thing, a stupid Old Rules thing...

They invited you in.
