You muster what vestiges of strength you have and pour water magic into the girl's hand. The bones slowly correct themselves, moving back into their proper positions. The wounds knit themselves back together. Only one of her shoulders is dislocated, the other was simply tweaked. The dislocated shoulder fixes itself with a loud 'pop' and the girl winces, but doesn't cry out.
>Vys Pool: (1/28)

While you're healing her hand, in a half-dazed tone due to how absolutely exhausted you feel, you find yourself rambling off life lessons. “Next time someone lights themselves on fire, don't spill flammable liquids, you know? It's just a bad idea. Maybe don't try to shank people with guns to your head. I mean, what if I'd shot you? I can't bring back the dead. Common sense.” You don't get a response, but it's not really important. Once her hand is healed you let her go and she rushes across the room to Lucky, seeming to shield herself behind him and clutching his hand desperately.

You slump down onto one a sealed crate, leaning back against the wall and closing your eyes for just a moment. This has gotten entirely out of hand. “Fulvia, keep an eye on these two. Keep them... I don't know, in the bathroom.” She nods and draws her sword, ushering them into the bathroom wordlessly. They don't complain, seems they've grown rather compliant, for now at least. You have no doubt that once the shock wears off they'll be getting uppity.

Once the hostages are taken care of Darzi's voice echoes into the back of your head. {You took this too far Mik, way too far. We come here as guest, and not an hour later you've extorted a shopkeeper, killed a handful of people, and taken two hostages. You're no better than any common bandit we'd find back home.} Profectus is the next to speak up. {I know you panicked, Mik. We all did. The situation got desperate. I don't think anyone wants to be in a hostage situation though. Lets just... leave. Nobody knows our names, and if we find a nice place to stay in the other tower we'll probably be able to just walk away from this.}

Skull Kid, entirely unaware of the nonverbal conversation going on, closes and locks the door to the apartment before turning to face the party. “Alright, look. We've got two hostages. We've probably pissed a pretty powerful gang judging from the firepower thrown around. I think it would be best to just... ditch. Make a run for it. I mean, I'm just as fucked as you five if Stumpy catches word of this.” Chryssa nods. “I agree. The moral quandaries raised by recent events can be discussed in full once we have reached the City or are certain our action will not raise the ire of the Conclave.”

>You're too tired to deal with this right now, planning can wait until after you've rested.
>You should focus on getting to the city, Profectus and Darzi can bitch you out for this later.
>Prof and Darzi are right. You're in way over your head right now. You should just... leave. Find some place to stay the night then hire a guide into the city.

About to pass out Man I've forgotten how long this quest tends to run I'm getting rusty.

Well try to make amends guys this shit was bananas and fucked up. No matter how you look at we were a true dickhead during this. Mik don't be an idiot you were an ass. Skull Kid is a true bro he's just helping us cause we're new here even though i feel like shadow running nah fuck it he deserves a reward.

Shes all about justice, but the resident bitcher does bring up a point.

Just a note, you'll only be reopening wounds you didn't already completely heal. Basically, any minor scars, torn tendons, damaged nerves, that sort of thing will be repaired and any shrapnel still stuck in them or you pulled out.

You'll of course ask for permission first, and you'll only start once you've already recovered your vys. Anyway, Writin'

You assume a meditation pose atop your chosen crate. “We'll discuss it later. I'm dead on my feet right now and I think everyone would do well to relax for a few hours.” Darzi throws her hands up in the air. “How can I relax?! We're keeping two people hostage in an apartment that looks ten minutes from collapsing on top of us while a gang is out for our blood!” Profectus puts a hand on her shoulder and pulls her away. They share some words you can't quite hear. Darzi sighs, but stalks off to the opposite corner of the room and lays down on a collection of canvas bags.

“Chryssa, Profectus. After I've regained my vys I want to test a method of meditation I've been kicking around. It will entail reopening your wounds to heal them more completely while I meditate. Even if I don't gain any insight from it, your wounds will no longer bother you as I'm sure they do now.” Chryssa nods. “Very well, you will be able to dull the pain with magic, correct?” You shrug your shoulders. “Maybe, but it shouldn't be just terribly painful.” Profectus hesitantly nods. “Yeah, alright. I figure if it gets rid of this sharp pain in my abdomen whenever I twist it's worth it.”

You nod, and with that fade away into your meditative trance. There is depressingly little vys in this room. What little exist is rapidly being absorbed by Fulvia's generator. Even branching out into neighboring rooms and out into the streets, you're simply not sure there is enough ambient vys to full replenish your reserves. You become more and more certain of this fact as you meditate. You manage to get your reserves to a respectable level, but in this environment it's simply not possible to top them off.
>Vys Pool: (23/28)

>>
Your eyes snap open. You feel refreshed, amazingly so, but not as much as you usually do after meditation. “Alright, Prof, Chryssa. You're up.” As you stand up from your box and survey the room, you see that Chryssa has claimed the top bunk while Skull Kid has taken the bottom. Darzi is sleeping on her pile of canvas sacks, their contents apparently old clothes. Fulvia continues to stand guard in front of the bathroom. Profectus is sleeping on the floor. Just how long have you been out?

You shake Profectus awake first, since he's closer. He groan and rolls onto his back, stretching himself out. His joints pop loudly and he winces, a hand shooting down to clutch at his abdomen. “Shit, alright. Time to do this?” You nod. “Yup, time to do this.” Fulvia speaks up as you move to wake up Chryssa. “If I may make a recommendation. You should use the surgeon's tools we found in the mine to perform the operation. Be sure to sterilize them with fire magic beforehand.” You glance at her confused. “What for?” She cocks her head to the side. “To purge the tools of any unseen contaminants, of course.” You scrunch up your face. “What sort of unseen contaminants? The hell are these tools made of?” She shakes her head. “Do you really not know? Everything around us is covered by unseen living organisms, they cause diseases and infections. Fire will cleanse the tools of these unseen organisms.”

Huh, you've never heard any sort of nonsense like that before. Diseases and infection are caused by imbalances in vys, everyone knows that. You ignore her in favor of climbing up on the bottom bunk so you can wake Chrys. She's sprawled out in a rather unladylike fashion, snoring softly. You place a hand on her shoulder and shake her a few times, she bolts upright, glancing around for a moment before focusing on you. “Is it time for the procedure?” You nod, and she slides out of the bunk once you've stepped down.

Your test subjects gathered, you withdraw the surgeon's tools from your cloak and indicate that they should lay down on the ground in front of the crate you'd been sitting on. They do as directed, and you take a moment to sterilize your instruments with fire magic as Fulvia directed you. Out of paranoia, more than anything. Then you set to work. You start on Chryssa's legs, removing any scar tissue with the small knife, you believe it's called a scalpel, and then severing any damaged nerves fully as well as removing several frayed tendons. You prevent bleeding with water magic and do your best to dull the pain, though it's difficult.

Then you move on to Prof, who's a more difficult subject. You're not really sure how to go about it, frankly. In the end you decide to simply make an incision in his abdomen and remove any scar tissue on his face and neck, be they from burns or metal shards.

Your companions seem less than thrilled with the procedure, but they do not cry out or squirm. Perhaps the scalpel is enchanted in some manner? Ah well. You resume your position atop the crate and begin meditating properly.

The massive bonuses at the lake were because of your chosen method of meditation. You got additional bonuses on the meditation roll based on your performance in combat against the fish-creatures. You also got bonuses to the meditation roll from the weakened veil between realities.

So you'd still get bonuses, they just wouldn't be as massive.

Just a thought, but when we get back home we should probably apologize REALLY FUCKING HARD for pulling everyone into an alternate dimension that apparently turns us into a hard ass renegade that couldn't find a fuck to give in an ocean of fucks.
>>
You start with the most difficult task, removing the metal shard from Profectus' abdomen without using metal magic. You've no idea how to go about it, but eventually decide on a method that involves regrowing flesh in such a way that it squeezes the shard out. Ideally without damaging other tissue. It's slow going, since you're trying to only regrow flesh at the same rate you gather vys while at the same time preventing them from bleeding. You manage it, but it's too much to focus on all at the same time to really gain any insight into what you're doing. You're more or less going with the flow, doing as your instincts suggest.

Once the metal shard has been removed the burnt skin on his face and any bad cuts so they won't leave scars. It's a fairly simple task in comparison, but it still seems to take forever. It feels like instead of just having the flesh reconnect itself, you're regrowing each individual muscle fiber, nerve, blood vessel, and patch of skin one by one. It's annoying how detailed you have to be, enough to give you a slight headache.

Chryssa is infinitely worse though. There is simply so much scar tissue, you doubt you can repair it all in one sitting. Not without expending your newly gathered vys, and certainly not while the only ambient vys available might as well be fumes. You do what you can, but her legs will still be badly scarred once you finish the procedure. At the very least you can say you reconnect all the damaged nerves in her leg properly, any sort of pain or numbness she might have been feeling ought to be alleviated.

(1/2)
>>
When you've finished both of them you start on your own wounds. You're a little more lackadaisical with the procedure on yourself, since it's your own flesh you risk damaging. You rend your wounds open with water magic, a difficult but not impossible task for you at your current level so long as it's on a small scale. Then you seal them more completely than you had in the thick of battle. You also remove a shard of metal from you calf that you'd missed.

The procedure finished your eyes snap open. You don't feel enlightened, you haven't made any progress really. Still, it was your first time using this method. You still need to get used to it. Maybe next time you'll be able to glean more from the process?

Profectus and Chrys have both already stood up and are busy inspecting themselves. Profectus is twisting and stretching in various ways to ensure he has full range of movement. Chryssa is busy running her finger along a long, jagged scar which still crawls its way across her shin. You feel a little bad, you sort of got her into this mess, but she doesn't seem upset. If anything you think she might think it's cool, but it's always hard to tell with her. Regardless, now that you've regained some vys and healed your companions you turn your thoughts towards the future. How do you intend to get out of this mess?

You've killed a handful of people who probably didn't deserve it, kidnapped two people who'd done nothing just horribly offensive towards you or yours, and forced them to let you hide out in their apartment. You're in too deep to just leave. It would be too anticlimactic. You'll have Lucky take you to the tunnel entrance and then you'll let them go. Maybe you'll even give them a little something in compensation, though you're not sure about that yet.

“Lets get everyone up. We're leaving for the city as soon as possible.” Chryssa nods, and moves to wake Skull Kid. Profectus clears his throat quietly. “Lucky and Pip too?” You nod. “We'll have them lead us to the tunnel entrance, that's it. Then we're done with all this nonsense.” He nods, though you can tell he's still uneasy about the whole situation. He moves to wake Darzi. Fulvia slips past the curtain into the bathroom to wake Lucky and Pipsqueak. Before you know it everyone is gathered in front of you, Darzi with her arms crossed in front of her chest haughtily.

“Lucky, you do have a route into the city right?” He nods his head emphatically. “Absolutely, guaranteed more or less mutant free.” You sigh, pushing yourself up. “Alright, lead us to it then. After that you're free to go.” You're turning towards the door when Lucky speaks again, this time a not of defiance to his tone. “Pipsqueak stays, she's not a part of this and she won't be any help on the journey. You leave her here, you won't have any trouble from me.”

>That's agreeable, she can stay.

OOC, the girl probably had a lot stashed up in pockets than just a knife; most likely communication devices and such. It's very likely we're walking into a trap. I'm surprised Skullkid didn't remark on how easily this could go topside.

If you'd had a natural regular success, the table would've caught on fire but it wouldn't of spread. People would've still panicked, but not as badly. If you'd taken a severe or regular failure, the fire would've begun spreading out of control and eventually the bar would go boom if you didn't get out of there quickly enough, once the flames started to heat the tanks of synth to an untenable point. If you'd had a great success, the table wouldn't of caught on fire and people wouldn't have panicked.

If you'd paralyzed Lucky he would've ratted you out to the gang after the paralysis wore off and you would've been the target of a drive-by shooting. This would've happened regardless of what sort of terms you set to counter Lucky's paralysis.

If you'd haggled, you could've gotten the price down at most to 400 AWU on a Great Success. Regular would've cost you 500. Any sort of failure would've left it at 600. Lucky would've honored the deal and lead you to the tunnel without any shenanigans at a time of your choosing regardless of the dice roll.

“That's agreeable.” You reach into your cloak, pulling out Pip's knife and flipping it to catch it by the blade. You hand it to her grip first and she snatches it out of your hands, sliding it into the sleeve of her baggy hooded garment without a word. Lucky seems relieved, at least. “Thank you, really mate. A weight off my shoulders knowing she'll be safe. Lets go then, yeah?”

You nod, and he leads the way out of the apartment. Pip watches you leave silently, those soulless black eyes tracking your movement. It's incredibly unsettling, but you ignore it. You've probably made more than a few enemies today, but at least you'll be out of this whole messed up situation soon. You follow Lucky down the flights of stairs to the ground level. He pushes the door open and pauses, you half expect gunfire to erupt. It doesn't though. He just glances both ways before leading you out into the streets.

You must look an odd bunch. A augmented gang member with a fist imprint on his face, a heavily armored woman carrying a giant egg, a horned woman in armor concealing her face with a hideous mask, an elf and a samja in armor unimaginably ancient, and a wastelander with a giant metal shell covering his head. Even in a place as unbelievably strange as this futuristic, destroyed world your group attracts the stares of passers-by. At least the child-like midget with solid black eyes and translucent skin isn't tagging along anymore.

As you round a corner towards the nicer part of town, towards the great bazaar you first came to this accursed tower for, you hear a roar from behind you. Glancing over your shoulder you see six men on those floating vehicles, two of them wielding shotguns, three some method of strange miniature rifle, one a pistol with a barrel longer than your forearm, and finally one wielding what you can best describe as a strange club. One of them jerks back the handle on his vehicle and it practically leaps towards you, sailing through the air at an unbelievable speed.

Repeat after me, "A big chunk of Banished players are fucking retarded"

This has to be repeated like every 3 threads or so and there is nothing you can do about it. They are just stupid, ADD-ridden idiots.
And they get incredibly defensive too, If you even hint that some action was idiotic, even without specifically indicating any posters, you'll be spammed with butthurt meme images and other reactionary nonsense by them.

And don't think I'm exaggerating when I say you can't do anything about these retards. You could argue with them for half of a thread, come out on top and have them agree with your point of view and in the end be met with "I agree with you, but I think you're an asshole so I'll keep voting otherwise just to spite you". I've actually seen this happen several times in the span of this quest.

This is something you'll have to simply accept. And yes, most of the time they defend themselves by going "Mik is CUHRAZY LOLOLOLOLO"

As soon as we encountered that thug and people started suggesting hiring him, I knew it was over.
