With the arrival of new and hostile creatures, mostly human with a mix of other beings, you have flexed the muscle of your hive. Your warriors have beaten them back to their ship, the Hel’s Angle, and your drones beat at the loading bay door. The door bends slightly, but holds fast for now. Your victory has come at a cost, with half of your warriors dead, and most of your wasps wounded you find yourself in a difficult position, although you doubt the humans know of your current weakness. Of the eight warriors and four wasps you sent in, one wasp has been gravely injured and has returned to the hive to heal, one has been captured and is now loose in the Hel’s Angle, and three warriors survive. Your sniffer has been brought to the brink of death, and in its current state you are unsure if it will survive its injuries.

Welcome back to Hive Queen Quest!

Your wasp stands in the hallway leading from the cargo bay with the shredded bodies of two humans strewn about. The Ceph, Coil, has bundled into a dense knot of tentacles in an apparent effort to sooth the pain of its wounds. It pulses a bright yellow and red pattern as it passes Lyle and retreats down the hall.
“Go float it off, they grow back.” He says, his eyes locked to your wasp’s. This is the first time you have managed a good look at the man. A fresh set of bandages are wrapped around his chest and shoulder. Two small dapples of blood stain the white cloth where your drones had punctured his armor. A towel is casually draped over his shoulders, offering only a glimpse of the crisscross of scars and the set of revet-like protrusions along his color bone. His arms are covered in small metal plugs and strange tattoos. On his left is a small string of lines with a set of numbers and the line “Helviti Penal Colony” written below, on his right is a stylized and archaic looking helmet engulfed in flames with a decorative scroll inked above and below that read “Orbital Shock Troopers: 137th brigade” and bellow the phrase “quoniam bonum est, in infernum saltu”

>>
>>32806240
Current Research
>Small land drone
>Large land drone

Available research options
>Lightning gun
Very slow: potential of failure and destruction of sample device
This powerful weapon appears to throw rapid bursts of highly conductive plasma in a manner not unlike natural lightning. The humans of the Union call it a “CIP Pistol” which seems to stand for “Concentrated Ionized Plasma”. From what you have seen of it in action, it appears to have devastating damage potential, but is difficult to aim and holds a very short effective range.

>Ion thrusters
Slow
The Unity drone is held aloft by a series of powerful ion thrusters that use the air particles around it, or stray particles found in the interstellar medium to accelerate and change vector in a highly efficient fashion. No real fuel is needed, only a powerful electrical charge. The only major drawback is that with the increase in efficiency comes a drop in overall performance and power. The Unity appears to have gotten around this limitation by carrying their drones in larger ships that transport them in and out of combat, and by limiting the drone’s size to a bare minimum.

>Cyclotron particle beams
Very slow: Runs a potential of failure and destruction of the sample device.
Unlocks Liner particle beam research
The Unity drone is equipped with four powerful cyclotrons, a ring of superconductors that use powerful magnetic fields to rapidly accelerate a series of particles to near-light speeds, which are each attached to one of the four main weapons. The cyclotron is both compact and efficient, but is relatively fragile as damaging any one component will disable the entire system. It also requires a short but noticeable amount of time for the cyclotron to accelerate a new shot. The drone fires them in sequence to account for this and provide more firepower.
>>
>>32806264
>Conductive armor plating
Medium
The Unity drone appears to have been designed with the energy based CIP pistol in mind. Layers of highly conductive struts frame the armor like a faraday cage, protecting the inner working components from electrical fields and directing harmful blasts of energy away from critical areas. It is much less effective against solid projectiles however, and is only as strong as the metal alloy plating covering its chassis.

>Oxygen recycler
Slow
In the process of disassembling the human environment suit, the thinkers found a culture of artificially mutated microorganisms. They were able to take several samples and have set them aside for further study and application. The humans appear to have used them in a small tank to turn CO2 into breathable oxygen, you may be able to do the same, reducing the rate at which your drones need to breath, allowing them to work in areas even a filter lung would not function such as underwater or in vacuum.

>Reactive armor
Slow
While most of the human suit systems are designed to solve various failing of the human body, you may be able to learn from their chosen method of protection. The suit has a thin layer of microfibers that rapidly solidify into a dense shell when subjected to dangerous kinetic force, both serving as a cast for broken bones and protecting against blunt trauma. Developing a method of weaving a similar substance into your drones would greatly improve their resistance to impacts and ballistic attacks, however it would have no mitigating effect on directed energy weapons.

I really hope I didn't forget something again.

>“quoniam bonum est, in infernum saltu”
My Latin is rusty, but first part is "For it is good," but the second part... presumably meant to be "to leap into hell"? if saltu is supine form of 'salio'...

http://ancienthistory.about.com/od/verbals/qt/112307Supine.htm

but that's the wrong form of 'to leap', you probably wanted the infinitive? Or else I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Basically the problem is this: >>32806879

Until we research the CIP or the Cyclotrons or the upgraded Spike Rifle or bombs or something heavy platforms are fairly useless.
>>
>>32806910
Armor pierce would presumable do the most damage, followed by incindiary or acid rounds.

Laser tech seems to do the most damage to us so far, though.
>>
>>32806989
Actually we already have heavy weapons they're called railguns
>>
>>32806989
IIRC, there was the biological grenade idea from much earlier, though I forgot the fine details of that one. My suggestion was to use Spike Rifles in a gattling configuration as a stopgap measure until we can develop better weapons.

>>32807049
We have yet to research that.
>>
>>32806988
We don't necessarily "own the ground" yet, our Warriors could use some more armor and maybe an "overwatch" type Thinker who can direct them and accurately process battle data.
>>
>>32807049
That would call stampedes on us all day everyday. Let's do it when we're ready.
>>
>>32807068

Your wasp chitters its mandibles, the rapid cackle briefly echoes down the hall and your wasp opens fire, filling the air with deadly barbs. Lyle drops, his legs crumpling under him into an almost bestial stance and he quickly lunges forward. Your wasp follows his movement, ripping into his arm and tearing off several large chunks of flesh. The muscle beneath glistens with a silver sheen and he quickly closes the distance. Your wasp leaps into the air, running along the ducts and piping of the ceiling as his combat knife slices through the air inches behind you.
"You're a nimble little bastard, aren't ye?"
Your wasp moves to line up another shot, but Lyle has already moved, dashing from wall to wall so fast he almost leaves the ground entirely. His boot spins in a wide arc and impacts your wasp's leg, snapping it in two as your drone leaps away.

>>32806989
I promise I will give you at least a choice of two basic weapons whenever you make a new design. You have some good tech available that I don't bring up because it's irrelevant to the moment. You don't need to know about starship hulls, for example, when you are focused on making your first farm. Your two basic weapons can be scaled up as needed. At larger levels the Thorn launcher becomes a cannon, and the sting caster like a heavy machine gun. For space ships the Thorn launcher becomes the rail gun, and the sting caster a close range auto cannon.

We're nowhere near an egg laying bottleneck, and there's no limit to our psionic bandwidth. If there were, you could build a second relay.

With Lyle now standing between you and the cargo bay, you question if your wasp is quick enough to get past him. He plunges his knife into the wall under you just as your wasp leaps through the porthole above you with a beat of its wings. You can hear the grating sound of tearing metal as he pulls the knife from the deep puncture in the wall.
"Get back here, I was just getin' warmed up!"

As a general, absolute rule no job is worth your life.

Who cares if the cargo is a galactic menace? Vent the airlocks/cargo bay, or take an escape pod. Let the goverment deal with it. Self-destructs are expensive and dangerous.

'Course if they wanted to they could overload their singularity core, but I don't think they have one. I suspect that's military and/or large ship technology.

"Shit shit shit." The human shouts as she tries in vain to pivot the turrets to the blind spot just behind the loading bay door where your three warriors are. Your wasp quickly moves closer, it's last two legs softly thumping on the metal floor. As your drone's shadow falls over the chair she looks behind her. "Rogers, we lost Len-" She stops mid sentence as your wasp opens its mandibles and moves in, quickly tearing into her armor plating and gouging the flesh below. By the time she brings her sidearm to bear her skull has been torn in half and scattered across the glass canopy.
>>
>>32808259

You know, even if they send a message it'll be a distress/"Help, there are a fuckload of bugs attacking us!"

Your wasp quickly stabs at the displays, tearing at the wires and dials. Sparks fly as you rip open the paneling and slice into the sensitive equipment. You can't be sure how much damage you actually do to the device without knowing how it works, but as you bring down your blade one last time you feel a sudden jerking motion. Your drone is lifted into the air and brought down backwards onto its head, a bloodied arm wrapped under the mandibles. Lyle drives your drone's face into the floor and quickly rams a knee into its thorax with a loud crunch.
"You know how much one of ya buggas is worth alive?" he says, his elbow pressed hard against the back of your wasp's head. "Fifty thousand creds a piece, thirty if dead. I don't know why and I don't ask, all I know is you and your buddies' little tantrum out there means me an' coil get to keep that much more of it."
Your wasp lashes out with its claws, reaching in vain for Lyle's head. A knife quickly pins the arm to the deck while the other is pulled up behind the wings and crushed beneath his knee.
"Now, I'm gonna go take a piss, and then I'm gonna think on all the things I can buy with thirty thousand creds. Now for givin me such a fun ol' time, I'll let bygones be bygones, but if I see ya start making somthin personal outa this, I'll have to get serious." He leans in close. "Hear that, ye' majesty?" Destroy?

The SOS was a radio transmission transmitted with the radio drone at their request. The drone in the system that received it was destroyed by the Unity server ship, not us.

If the humans never get rescued, no one knows any bugs exist. It's trivial to hide--we were hiding just fine except when we chose to reveal ourselves.

The ribcage has been split apart like a flower, and the insides scrambled into a thick paste, but the head and lower body seem intact. >>Take it back to the hive
>>
>>32809886
How so? Would it be somehow more difficult to pretend to be stonesmashers?
>>
>>32809901

I can support this line of questioning.
>>
>>32809823
>Take it back to the hive
Muh hero ect.

Ask about the human governments and how shifty they are. See if they are likely to set something like this up under the table. The fact that survivor man knows about The Queen means he had information directly from the group of survivors that we helped off. Also, only our human friend knew about the Queen and likely told his friends. Once again, we have already lost yet another advantage now that they know of the Queen. Damn it guys.
>>
>>32809823
Lay warriors. Lots and lots and lots of warriors. And wasps.
>>
>>32809797

Look, if we hadn't helped the humans we'd be dealing with the Unity. Personally I prefer dealing with the humans.
>>
>>32809823
I'm against talking to Theseus about the Clarke, it's irrelevant.

Describe the ship design of the bounty hunters, and as about its weaknesses or communication capability.
>>
>>32809965
They would've figured it out when they noticed our drones don't have reproductive organs.
>>
>>32809823
Can we lay some wasp worker variants?
>>
So who here thinks that the scientist sent these guys?
We know he was laughed at for thinking of a hive mind species, but when he finally finds one he can't take a sample.
>>
>>32809962
Depends on how far our infrastructure and general influence on our surroundings had advanced. It's worth noting that the arrival of a later exploration ship might not involve its crash on the planet and having all of its survey instruments destroyed.

We were super lucky to not have to hide from any real high-tech scrutiny.
>>
>>32810014
He sent these guys.
>>
>>32810014
I feel more like it's the government myself.
>>
>>32809965
To be fair, we don't know for sure they DO know of the queen. This guy's statement could easily be colloquialism couched in personal assumption/misunderstanding of his briefing. I mean, when you see giant space bugs you think "queen" and "hive".
>>
>>32809996
>prefer dealing with the humans
The Unity does not have an obvious conflict of interest with the hive.

>Unity
>hide in distant star systems
>blood feud with creators
>no ill will to other factions
>science all day every day
>willing to respect hive's right to secrecy

>humans
>expansionists, rivals for territory, manifest destiny over the whole Frontier Expanse
>blood feud with Unity
>desire control over all other civilizations in their way
>hire bounty hunters to discover the hive's secrets
>>
>>32809823
>Recycle it and lay a new one
>>
>>32810092
you forget, that these unity robots want samples of our species, and could view us as something that obstructs their chance to advance in science.
>>
>>32810089
I didn't consider that. Next time I see a space bug race I won't immediate fall towards assuming that horrible always true stereotype.
>>
>>32810092

Nonsense, the Unity would've moved in to harvest us and there would've been little we could've done about it because they don't have a bureaucracy to delay action.

Oh wait, is conjecture on what could've been different annoying you?
>>
>>32809823
>take it back to hive
>>
>>32810130
We checked that possibility.

If the hive refuses to share bio samples, the only consequence is they will not share their treasure trove of research and data in return.

Quid pro quo.

Hence the "willing to" etc.
>>
>>32810130
How?
"Can genetically engineer selves and creations at will. Suggested action: map genome, assume they can do everything."
>>
>>32809823
>Take the sniffer back to the hive

You direct your thoughts to Theseus, although you still find it strange how naturally you seem to be able to do so. His response is a brief pain in the back of your mind which you seem to feel is something called a "handshake protocol", you're not sure how you know that.
"What do you know of this design?" You say, to the point. Direct thoughts tend to be much more direct than what you have experienced from the strange dance of verbal speech.
"It appears to be a customized Spartan patrol cruiser outfitted with a Ceph Slip Drive. Some of the modifications are different but the design seems to match that of the Hel's Angle. How did you encounter it?"
You can't help but be shocked at the response. You were expecting a far more vague answer. "How do you know this ship?" You ask, although the urgency seems to make it more of a demand.
"We have made dealings with the owner in the past. A man named Lyle Rogers. I can assume you have met him?"

What do you say?
>>
>>32810203
"He is attempting to capture hive drones to obtain items called 'creds'. His artificial body modifications make him very difficult to kill."
>>
>>32810203
"Recently."
>>
so the rest of the unity is screwing with us,

>>
>>32810203

To Catch a Lyle: A Hive Powerpoint Presentation

By Thinker Seven

1. Swarm with workers
2. Workers seize four human limbs in strong, stone-crushing mandibles
3. Workers de-swarm, pull human spread eagle
4. Warriors advance, use sharp mandibles to sever all limbs

Success!
>>
>>32810430
You lost me after step 2.
>>
>>32810290

Concur with this too really.
>>
>>32810203
Can we send in our workers to help the warriors?
>>
>>32810486

I tend to think that sending workers (no matter the number) against Lyle is likely to end in slaughter of the workers.
>>
>>32810510
we just need to distract him, while or warriors fuck him up, plus workers are our cheapest unit.
>>
>>32810524
I think the interior of the ship is too cramped to really pull this off, sadly.
>>
>>32810486
How about this plan. If the ship is disabled and the outer weapons are busted. Then why siege it? We just get the workers to BURY the ship in rocks, mud, and other junk so he can't get out. that way we can buy time to grow new troops and then unearth it and tear him a part.
>>
>>32810555
sounds like a plan.
Kill the antenna, weapons and engines form outside, bury it for a week, swarm with a small army.
>>
>>32810555
>>32810608

He's got an entangled comm unit, for sure.

Honestly now that we hear that he's cooperated with the Unity before and that he's willing to not take things personally I would be willing to work with him for mutual gain.

After all, what difference does it make to him if he takes home a wasp or a specially grown worker who has the most plain genetics possible?

In return we can acquire basically whatever we want.
>>
>>32810555
>>32810608
You'd somehow have to find enough rocks to do that in the middle of a jungle.
>>
>>32810203
He has attacked and captured a drone with the promise of 'credits'. My warriors have attacked and damaged their craft, and killed much of the crew. What do you know of this?"

"Energy Credits" he says "A form of politically neutral currency deviced by the Earth Confederation to facilitate interstellar trade. It is used by both the Union and Commonwealth, and is used to some extent by all other known races. We hold many thousands of false accounts with Union, Commonwealth and Valen banking authorities. While it is usually universally accepted, the mercenary Lyle Rogers has been known to accept technology as payment. We have found him to be very reliable in missions of espionage and technology gathering, although we find he is hired to move against us just as frequently. We have always tolerated this due to his efficiency and professionalism."
"Professionalism? Explain."
"He has never informed us of his other employers' identities or locations, even under duress, although he typically offers a free 'job' after extended interrogation. Despite lack of pay in such assignments he has always delivered."
"Did the Unity hire him to come here?"
"I do not know. It is always possible."
"What do you know of him?"
"He served in the Commonwealth military for a time as a deep strike shock trooper, but was dismissed due to mental instability."
"What of 'Helviti'?"
"A Commonwealth prison colony in the Hel system. It is highly volcanic in nature."
>>
>>32810608
>Small army
I have a feeling Lyle is going to be a recurring character just because we want him dead so much. Who's true goal was the first thought of humanity since it's conception

"Can I fuck it?"
>>
>>32810624
How about a suicide drone with a Thinker stuffed inside? Thinker has standing orders to trigger the drone's suicide function as soon as the drone is injured or sedated in any way.

I don't actually support this plan, mind.
>>
>>32810624

You have a point...we can make this work to our advantage if he's willing to cooperate.
>>
>>32810637
"How do we defeat or otherwise disable his cybernetics?"
>>
>>32810657
I would be pretty upset if he got away, and with a drone, after some hand wave. If he does get away at this point it would have to be from us screwing up.
>>
Depends, he could be persuaded to work for us, but if his professionalism is to be believed. I don't thin he'll rat out on his current employer in the middle of a job.
>>
>>32810637
"You have captured him before, to put him under... 'duress'. Did you exploit some weakness?"
>>
>>32810657

Why kill him when he can be of use?
>>
>>32810637
Good to know that torturing him is a waste of our time, I guess.

Damn, I'm starting to have terrible ideas involving cooperating with him.
>>
>>32810799
Because we have no real method of paying him.
>>
>>32810637

Describe a Ceph Slip Drive, we have disabled his apparent primary propulsion. Is there danger of him escaping?
>>
>>32810630
We're digging under ground tunnels, there is plenty of rocks there.
>>
>>32810730
The real challenge does seem to be getting him to abandon the pursuit of our drones in any form.

>>32810821
Funny you should say that because we do. Basic melee warrior drones with a Thinker to command them that is instructed to follow Lyle's instructions. Without us they'd be dumb brutes, but they're damn good meatshields.
>>
>>32810826
Alright, cant we just dig under the ship, then collapse and bury it?
>>
>Everyone wants to kill him or experiment on him
>"He is a mercenary. He won't rat you out"
>LETS HIRE HIM GUYZ
What the fuck?
>>
>>32810898
I think its the same guys that blindly trust the robots.
>>
>>32810821

What are you talking about? We clip the excess genetics off of a worker's corpse and that's 30k credits RIGHT THERE.
>>
>>32810881
Good point! That should be easy to do with the workers on hand.
>>
>>32810637
"What are his capabilities?"
"Most of his implant technology is designed to allow the operation of a Drop Suit. We have analyzed them extensively the first time we captured him infiltrating our territory. Many subsequent implants and modifications are of our own design, and were provided as payment for a variety of espionage efforts. His skeletal structure has been reinforced, artificial muscle tissue offers enhanced speed and strength, and much of his nervous system has been replaced with high performance fiber optic micro-cable. His skin is also interwoven with a high quality polymer that is resistant to puncture or slashing."
"What of this, 'duress'"?
"During our first interrogation he was subjected to extreme electrical currents. While he stated that 'it tickled', he eventually offered a free job in exchange for freedom. The previous three times we captured him he said 'good game, guys' and offered the same deal."
"What do you know of this 'Ceph Slip Drive"
"I do not have this information. The Ceph are a highly isolationist people and we have yet to obtain a working sample for proper study."
>>
>>32810898
Basically, he could be a possible contact operating within the union. Also, he seems to give no fucks about whoever hires him so long as he gets payed.
Emphasis on COULD and SEEM
>>
>>32810945
Well at least nobody will miss a mercenary.

Thanks Theseus. Time to plot his downfall.
>>
>>32810945
What I'm really curious about is how he handles failing a mission. If he's fanatically loyal to his current assignment, he's basically useless to use because we're his target.
>>
>>32810945
"How do you suggest I capture him?"

Also, I agree with Fluff. We should put the ship into a hole.
>>
>>32810946
Even if I accepted that he would have some value, we have nothing to pay him with. Unless you want to go with what anon posted above about giving him several drones and thinkers. You know, the thing we have been fighting to prevent this whole time.
>>
>>32810945
>The Ceph are a highly isolationist people and we have yet to obtain a working sample for proper study."
Almost as bad as the humans.
>>
>>32810945
I look forward to throwing his body to the thinkers.

We could learn to artificially augment our own drones in a similar manner.
>>
>>32811031

The Unity caught him infiltrating their territory and managed to dissuade him from completing his mission.

We can too.
>>
>>32811050
Maybe its best that we just make sure they won't be able to escape for now by dropping the ship into a hole. Then we can debate on what to do with him.
>>
>>32811073
One problemo, hombre:

That means letting him leave in a ship. Which we need to dissect for delicious cloaking technology and everything else, too.
>>
>>32811087

Meh, we could always pay him to acquire delicious cloaking technology and such after he leaves.
>>
>>32811073
We have nothing to pay him with no money or anything unless we capture him and begin a mind control drone program
>>
>>32811059
Seriously, every time someone says diplomanser I see assurances that no one wants to diplomance, yet here we are.
>>
>>32811112
We could pay him with warrior drone goons, but that's a problem if he's going to turn around and sell them.
>>
>>32811130
Just an addition, I have no problem with diplomacy, I voted to help the humans before, but getting buddy buddy with the robots or letting the mercenary live is just stupid.
>>
>>32811144
He probably would sell them.

At this point, we just need to stop him from leaving, and ensure he dies here.
>>
>>32811144
>>32811104
so WHY do we want to let him live?
>>
>>32811073
Unity also has a massive power and Tech base as well as credits. Also, we need to keep ourself hidden. Giving him samples of our drones will make others ask questions and start to look for us.
>>
>>32811175

To acquire technology.
>>
>>32811185
lets just kill him then.
>>
>>32810945
"How do you propose to capture him?"
"I would not know, I do not have access to his detailed psychological profile. Many of our serverships' internal defenses are designed with him in mind, and he has proven highly effective at finding errors in our applications."
>>
>>32811185
How about we just look for tech among the TWO SPACESHIPS we now have?
>>
>>32811175
He needs to die. He knows about the queen. That and the implants would make a great thing to study for the thinkers.
>>
>>32811153
I agree with you, i'm just boggled that people bitch about the humans so much, but are acting the same way towards the robots like we did to the humans.
>>
>>32811199
Have workers tunnel under the ship, then collapse the tunnel, burying the ship with it.
>>
>>32811204
>>32811193

Suit yourselves. I doubt it'll be quite that easy, I have a feeling he'll have quite a few 'favors' stashed up among people we don't want to displease at this stage in our development.

If I was devising this NPC I'd sure have him with those connections.
>>
>>32811175
Because.. Uh.. Er... Um... "Reasons"?

There's damn little he can give us that we can't get from dissecting him, or haven't already taken when our drones disabled the ship.

We have TWO SPACESHIPS to play with now, as well as human bodies, spacesuits, all the guns we can shake a mandible at, and something to stick our pet AI in so it doesn't croak.

He either knows too much, or was hired by someone who suspects too much- We can't let him get away.
>>
>>32811153
Robots don't make 'buddy buddy'. That's not even on the table.

They make a valuable offer of quid pro quo, which is irrelevant right now since it's impossible to make the transaction while planetbound. That's it. A one-off tech tree unlocking bargain.
>>
>>32811220

There's like 1 or 2 people who bitch about humans, the rest of us are fine with how it turned out. At least it's entertaining.
>>

The soil under the Hel's Angle is soft and muddy. The tunnel collapses faster than it is dug, and requires extensive reinforcing to make any progress. This may take a while...

Also, yea we seem to be burning through threads real fast, and I think the board has gotten a bit faster recently, which is why I wanted to deal with drone design now and finish up the fight at the start of the next thread.

>>32811892
You are researching that now, but you can design a drone and have it made when the research is done.

>>32811920
That's another reason. It's well into the night at this point, so you have effectivley reached the next day. I figured it would be best to be able to set up drone production now instead of the next day so you don't have as long to wait.
>>
>>32810089
We do for sure. Lee told the Clarke crew everything about what he saw, they logged it all in the First Contact report.

Anyone except a scientist with tunnel vision for his pet theory would conclude based on those observations (giant-ass bone-headdress-antennae on queen? talking to drone is like "talking to someone on the phone"?) that a centralized command structure was more likely than a decentralized gestalt intelligence.
>>
>>32811991
I also wonder if the government had had encounters with other Hives/Queens before? It might be the reason for where we are at now.
>>
>>32811982
What are our troop count, and nutrient count?
>>
>>32812064
uncharted space
>>
>>32812064
That is so unlikely as to be ludicrous, as our species has never met aliens like this before, and also this is uncharted space, ie our race has never been near human space to encounter them.

And this is their 'Frontier Expanse'. They haven't been further than this before, either.
>>
>>32812064
We came from an uncharted nebula, remember?
>>
>>32812065
292 N
597 M

combat drones are
3 wasps
5 warriors
2 sniffers, although one of them is in critical condition
>>
>>32812100
>>32812099
>>32812083
Yes, we did. But who knows how long we were out there. The humans might have came in behind us and found out that way. But right now, I'm just guessing and it's more likely we'll never find out.
>>
So what was the plan for shock-troop drones again? Because those sound like they'd really come in handy. Also, we should probably research heavier weapons next. Also, using the upcoming heavy carapace with upscaled weapons would be good, if only for dealing with armoured enemies.

Also, I propose we name a heavy varient "Bobslayer" for giggles.
>>
>>32812164
Bro. 'Frontier Expanse'. As in 'humans are still just starting to chart this part of space for CONQUEST'.

There is almost no possibility they made it so far past the spinward nebula.
>>
>>32812214
Basically the idea is Explosive Warriors. That explode when they die.
>>
>>32812154
extra 5 warriors
7 more wasp
thats 55 nutrients
make 5 shock troops as well
which should bring total cost 170N, and 75M
>>
>>32812264
With wings, if I recall.

Jeez, tg is fast tonight.
>>
Rolled 21

>>32812264

Nah, it was more complex than that. More like "Elite Warriors". They could be used as a queenly bodyguard, shock troopers, or long ranged recon-in-force units.

Its a bit pricy, but i like to think these guys are the elite of the elite.
23 nutrient, and 13 metal.
>>
>>32812154
Make 30 more workers.
>>32812281
Here is my design for reference
>>32669240
>>32806545
>>
>>32812295
>Endurance legs
but why?

>absurd senses
Let's not and say we did? Like, in a dedicated sensor drone? One that can have escorts like these guys.

This is a hive, we don't need the common drone to have keen elf-eyes when it can be guided by its brothers with but a thought.
>>
Rolled 49

>>32812295

Although looking at it we should probably split the legs between endurance and sprinting, for more combat efficacy.
>>
>>32812348
>split the legs
bro, sprinting *is* combat efficient model. just pick sprinting.
>>
>>32812334
>but why?
Sprint is only good for short burst of combat, while endurance is for long fights and trecks.
>>32812334
>absurd senses
Like i said last thread, they are dedicated elite units that go in and fuck shit up or hunt things down.
>>
Rolled 95

>>32812334

It's a generalist combat drone designed to operate on its own at long range and to be able to detect any threats that may be incoming towards the queen.

>>32812372
Yeah, but with their given senses they're suited to going off on their own for long times. Giving them purely sprint would be eliminating that possibility.
>>
Rolled 59

>>32812399
>>32812372
>>32812348

Oh, now that I look at it I think the moderate flight was supposed to make up for the lack of sprinting legs. Makes sense now.
>>
>>32812399
"split the legs". what does that even mean? You want to have your cake after you've eaten it already?
>>
>>32812449

We have 2 pairs of legs. We can choose one specialization for one pair and another for the other pair to gain generalization at the expense of specialization.

So yes.
>>
>>32812434
Also the wings are used for.
> They could leap over walls and barriers, attack from above and charge in ahead of the others in a suicide run. If you were willing to throw them away in an attack, they would decimate things just by dying next to them.
>you get a lot of bang for you buck. Your warriors were shrugging off assault rifle attacks, and when they fought the Unity drone one of them took a particle beam to the chest and was fine.
>>
>>32812399
Well even with the "sprinting" legs they still have great endurance. The difference is that endurance legs can just keep chugging along all day without rest, but simply can't move very quickly, while the sprinting legs can expend lots of energy very quickly but doing so will tire the drone. The drone can leap out of the way of things, charge an enemy position, or just move really quickly in a forced march, but if they go for too long they start getting penalties as they tire out.

A warrior can walk all day and not tire out, but after a battle it won't be very effective until it has time to rest.
>>
>>32812295
Really don't need most of that sensory junk.
>>
>>32812571
I think an exploding warrior with moderate wings is enough of an upgrade over the base model, personally. Maybe moderate acoustics and basic radio if we want decent commando capabilities.
>>
>>32812295

Well I still like it, Anon, and I'll vote for it when it comes up.
>>
Got the thread archived. http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/32806162/

I'm still shocked at how fast tg has gotten recently. I have no need to sleep for the trip since I won't be driving, so if we have the same problem I might do a double thread this Friday.

As always, I'm always open to questions, comments, or complaints.
>>
>>32812636
its an elite commando, instead of an upgraded warrior, if last thread and this thread is anything to go by.
>>
>>32812695
Run, like, 8 threads before Friday
>>
>>32812695
so what are we laying building?
>>
>>32812636
Yeah I agree with this.
>>
>>32812636
>>32812730
Why not design and make both?
>>
>>32812636

I think exploding workers with wings would do better for that role.

I want the uber-commandos, but by no means should they be numerous.
>>
>>32812720
That would probably kill me. I wish I could though.

>>32812727
looks like either more warriors and wasps, or these Elites, although the design has not been finalized yet.
>>
>>32812827
>That would probably kill me. I wish I could though.
If it kills you, it's not like you'll be around to care about it.

If you survive, then you'll be stronger than ever!
>>
>>32812827
no more workers?
>>
>>32812772
I don't think concentrating a lot of things into one drone is the good strategy. I mean, radio signals receiving?

I guess a heavily armored, rather slow scout is a niche we can fill. We'd only need 2 of them though.

it would be exploding flying warrior plus loadsa senses then.
>>
>>32812866
We could afford a few more. Have them Make a proper throne room for the queen. It's protection appears to be needed now.
>>
>>32812866
We can only lay so many things, we have to make tradeoffs here.

I think laying workers might be better to do sooner than martial oriented ones though. Odds are this situation with the merc will be finished, one way or the other, within the... what, 4 days it'll take for combat drones to hatch?
>>
>>32812889
I can kind of see the benefit of a self-destructing combat scout, but I'm not a huge fan, and it doesn't seem terribly applicable to our current situation. Thinking ahead, I guess.
>>
>>32812955
If we win, yeah. We can probably delay their departure with harassing tactics though.
>>
>>32812695
How damaged do the engines on the ship appear to be?
>>
>>32813035
I doubt it. Hence the spoiler tag.

The Taidarens could well jury rig it back into functionality while we're shredded/driven off by the big guy, preventing further sabotage.
>>
>>32812960

To be honest, we have a fuckmassive nutrient surplus per-day and a ton of them stockpiled. I think it'd benice to have a heavy hitting jack of all trades unit.
>>
>>32813130
They are in shambles. Holes have been punched through various components, and you can still hear a slight hissing coming from it. One of them has even fallen loose from its housing.
>>
>>32813187
But for every such drone we don't lay, we can lay twice as many heavy hitters.
