Voiced Intro(Kudos to Voiceanon and Sonlee for this): http://vocaroo.com/i/s1Grk05b6F0v

Your name is Michael Dunkin, and you now work for the Inquisition. Previously you were a sergeant in the 291st Cadian Shock Troopers, but now you find yourself in the company of Inquisitor Christina Massey of the Ordos Xenos. After saving her life at the cost of your men and your life (the old one, at least), you've been officially proclaimed a dead hero and recruited into her retinue. Now, with your new life and future in her hands, you're tasked with looking after Christina's well being. And whatever else that entails.

Now you've gained a new name, and that one is Alex Sandon. While investigating the Brice Merchant Company with Christina, going with the name Amanda Berg, you meet the man behind the prints of the pulse carbine; one Sal Noriega. Playing the part of the gruff mercenary, you and the Inquisitor get your foot in the door of this new organization. Whatever it is. After making initial contact you followed Christina to Tiberius', where you receive an interesting call from Vincent.

“What do you want me to do, ma’am?” You ask.

“I’ve had my use of you for today,” She answers with a smirk. “Besides, you’ll need the practice.”

“Practice…?”

“Vincent and his men have gotten very good at being very bad. If you decide to play Alex as that sort of mercenary, you may want to take notes. You could also try and keep them out of jail for me.”

Tiberius, in his great wisdom, wordlessly scrolls to another page on his dataslate.

The chance to do some grunt work, as well as earn a little on the side, sounds promising. However, you'd rather not end up in a penal legion anytime this week.

"If Vincent's going out on the town, someone's got to play the part of an adult," You say, eliciting a snort from the aging Arbite.

"Most likely," Christina replies with a nod. "I'll be here with Tiberius for a while longer, so you won't need to worry too much. You run along and do... whatever is you Guardsmen do."

Bidding them both farewell, you bid both of them farewell and exit back out onto the street. Still being mid-morning, you've got some time to kill before you're supposed to meet the Commander.

You feel like you're in a horribly cliched spypict, but you try and play this discovery off as well as you can. You continue at a casual pace, not too enthused in anything in particular. However, you eventually stop at a storefront selling something you really don't care about.

You cast a sidelong glance back down the way you came. It's still early, so the crowd's are fairly thin. So when two men in civilian clothing pause mid-stroll, it sticks out. They look at one another a moment before copying your movement and inspecting a store, but even you can tell it's not the smoothest recovery.

Both of them appear middle-aged; one a light skinned man with thin dark hair, the other a dark skinned and haired man with impressive dreadlocks and flashy glasses. You can't make out any weapons, but you don't really feel like taking a chance.

Shopping can wait. It's time to have some fun.

You break away from the window and continue for a time longer, catching a glimpse of your followers soon doing the same. Their not armatures by any account, but you count yourself lucky or perceptive enough to have caught them.

Before long you catch sight of an alleyway, and without any serious thought to it you venture inside. However, as soon as you're out of sight you sprint to the T-intersection not far down, taking cover behind the wall there. It isn't long before you hear footsteps approaching fast.

You clench your fists, feeling a familiar and welcome sense of adrenaline begin pumping through you. Their footsteps continue to grow louder until you know they're right on top of you.

You come around the corner in a flash, meeting the black man first. A hard left hook smashes his glasses and sends him sprawling backwards before he can even react. The other man, to his credit, hardly skips a beat. He dodges under your second swing meant for him and delivers a blow to your chin that almost leaves you feeling lightheaded.

"That all you got?" The man asks in the accent of an ice worlder.

Rather than answer you bounce on your feet, moving quick and throwing up a kick. It connects and sends him stumbling sideways, but he manages to keep his footing. However, before he can recover you plow into him, pinning him against the wall. With your forearm firmly against his windpipe, all he can do is glare angrily at you.

"Screw you," The man coughs.

"'Peace, me bredren!" The dark man groans, attempting to sit up. "Bah, I think ya bust me nose, badman, but we no come here to chop."

He speaks in one of the thickest and most outlandish accents you've ever heard, but you've gotten fairly good at understanding those types.

"Oh yeah?" You ask. "Funny way of meeting people when you don't let'em know you're there."

"I and I, we came to get a look at tha new cat in ta ring, seen?" He goes on, looking over his broken glasses in dismay. "Peace, rasta, peace."

"The boss man," The other answers.

"He got a name?"

Both men look at one another. The pinned man shrugs.

"Maybe. You want, we could take you to him. He a mad one, like you, I think. Don't like surprises."

"What reason do I have to believe a word you're saying?"

"We both gettin' paid, me bredda. We both seekin' answers. Justice."

You look between both men before slowly releasing the second. He glares at you while he rubs his throat, but most of his initial anger seems to have vanished.

"One question," You say, offering the first a hand up. "What's your relation to Sal and his inventory?"

The first man is grateful for the hand, dusting himself off and chuckling.

"Bad vibes on that one. Never know what he's thinking till he tell you or shows you. I try to keep outta his way when I can," He says.

"We all have our uses," The second man finally speaks. "We have ours, and he has his."

As they recover from their abrupt beat-down you absently scratch your ear, keying the last person that called you. It buzzes for a few seconds before clicking.

"Eh? Mikkey?" Vincent asks, confused. "Something wr-"

"Alright," You say. "No funny business and I'll talk to your boss."

"All we ask for," The first man grins. "Name's Vonas. This me friend, Markus. He don't talk much, but he a good man when he wants to be."

"I'm Alex," You return, and with that both of you begin making your way out of the alley.

"Ah, shit, Mikkey," Vincent mutters. "I thought you'd be the one pulling me out of the fire. I'll get some people on your tail as soon as I can."

For a man that's now sporting a minor bloody nose, Vonas is an oddly friendly fellow. Markus, on the other hand, seems mostly content to let him talk for the both of them.

"Where did you learn them moves back there?" Vonas asks as you walk. "That some crazy stuff."

"I'm a man of many talents," You shrug, "and I like to finish things quick and dirty."

"I'm liking you already," Markus chuckles dryly.

"Thanks," You say. "I think."

It isn't long before you arrive at a parking lot, and they both stop next to a car you take to be theirs. Vonas turns to you and nervously shuffles where he stands.

"This a bit awkward, me bratha, but I'm gonna have to ask you somethin," He says. "Ya seem like a good man, but we got ways a meeting the new people. Seen?"

"Don't tell me you wan't to put me in the trunk," You tell him in a warning tone.

"Nah, nah, nothin like that," Vonas quickly waves his hands in denial. "Just..ah.. take a load off in the backseat."

"We'll also need to keep your eyes covered," Markus says. "This time, at least."

"Never thought I'd ever be kidnapped willingly," You sigh.

"You wanna meet the boss man? You gotta do what he asks," Vonas explains.

Rolling your eyes, you refrain from further complaint as you climb in the back. Without warning Markus yanks something over your head, blocking your head and giving you an encouraging push on the head so you fall over. At least they didn't restrain you.

"Hope ya comfortable back there," Vonas says. "I'll try and give ya a warnin before I go slammin on the breaks."

"Much appreciated."

"How about you, Markus? Where do you call home?"

"I don't," Markus replies in a tone that means he's not keen on sharing.

"Yeah, I was thinkin them. The eyes, ya know? Hard to miss," Vonus says.

You never really thought about it until now. Though you might be able to change your name, your eyes are a dead giveaway of where you're from.

"I hear badman be about there like clingers on a hang. It as bad as they say?"

"And worse," You answer, not seeing any reason to lie. "Tell me again why your boss wants to see me?"

"Like I say, you a badman yourself. You fight hard, but I think your also good."

"What makes you think that? I busted your glasses, and maybe your nose."

"He's got a point," Markus adds.

"And that's all you do," Vonus continues. "You got your heart in the fight, but the fight ain't got in you. A time and a place, me bratha."

"There's got to be more to it than just that."

"Maybe, but you gotta ask the boss man. We just here to pick you up and drop you off. Seen?"

"Yeah."

You have a hard time keeping track of time with music blaring in your ears and something smelling suspiciously like obscura barraging your senses. To your slight worry, Vincent remains silent.

Eventually you feel the car come to a stop and you lean up, waiting patiently. Markus removes the bag covering your face and you blink a few times as light blinds you. It takes you a few second to realize you're inside a warehouse. Crates of varying shapes and sizes sit scattered about piled high and low. In front of you, a pair of other civilian cars sit with a half dozen men scattered about.

Wordlessly you exit the car with Vonas and Markus, keeping your best tarot face on. The men all turn to face you, and from the group an older man steps forward. He's on in his years, hair graying but refusing to leave. His time among the living shows, but he holds himself as an officer.

"I understand this is a lot to take in, but I think you know where to stand on this. We'll have work for you soon. Expect contact in a few days," His eyes narrow ever so slightly. "You were not here. I was not here. Nothing was said."

With that done you return to the car, but sadly the bag goes back over your head and you lay back down. At least Vonas is just as chipper as before.

"See?" He asks. "A right and real soldier, like you. Don't take nothing from the badman or anyone else."

"He was certainly... something," You say.

"You can say that again," Markus adds.

You decide to keep quiet, letting the blasting music make the noise for you. However, not long after you feel the car start again you hesitantly pull up on your cover and catch a glimpse outside. You think you're in an entertainment district, judging by all the neon signs and the packed crowds. Though you know it's mid-day, darkness reigns. You catch a glimpse of something called 'The Inkquisition' but the rest is a blur.

You arrive a time later back at a familiar parking lot, where you're allowed back out and are able to breath freely again.

"See you around, Alex," Vonas calls out. "Keep them skills hot, me bratha."

"Will do," You tell him, and with that they pull out of the lot with a screech of tires.

You take a short walk a ways away to make a call, but before you do you hear a voice from behind.

"Mike."

You quickly turn around to find Vincent, standing with a pair of armsmen flanking either side of him. The Commander looks more concerned than anything else.

"You okay?"

"Now isn't really the best time to discuss this, is it?" You ask.

"Eh, probably not," Vincent admits. "Let's head on back to the Antebellum."

Though you initially had plans of a quieter sort, you know you don't really have much of a choice now. You grab a transport with the others and explain once you're in-transit.

"A Dranegi?" Vincent asks. "Isn't that where Delmar's from?"

"Beats me," You shrug. "Him and another, Valhallan maybe? They took me to meet who I think is their boss."

"A Valhallan? Greaaaat... as if Mik wasn't enough Ice Worlder to go around..."

Before long you've arrived back on the Antebellum to find no serious commotion.

"I kept your disappearing act quiet," Vincent explains. "I figured you could handle yourself. Though we -were- about to call it in when you finally showed up... so, who do we break the news to? The Lady's been back for a while now."

>Go straight to the Inquisitor.

"I need to talk to the Inquisitor first," You decide.

"Heh. Have fun with that, Mikkey," Vincent says, sending you on your way.

You hurry down the halls, not too quick but enough to make good time. A too-long elevator ride later leads you up to the personal quarters, and you track down her room from memory.

Knocking first, you enter to find the Inquisitor sitting at her desk, a dataslate in hand. When she sees you she offers a small smile.

"Lieutenant, just the man I wa-what's happened?"

And just as quick it vanishes when she sees your expression.

>>32810804

"We need to talk," You sigh, pulling up a chair.

"Alright then," Christina says, instantly down to business. "Talk."

So you tell her.

Everything.

From the moment you walked out of Tiberius' store till Vincent picked you up. Your willingness to tag along with the diabolical duo, and of your possible connection with Owen. Christina takes this all in silence, brow growing increasingly furrowed as you go on.

Eventually you finish, wrapping up with the store you saw and the Major's words.

For several long minutes the Inquisitor seems lost in though. Then, just before you try and say something, she speaks.

"First, I'm impressed with your initiative," She says. "Second, I'll see what I can bring up on this Major Bishop. And third... well, I suppose I no longer have to break the good news. Bother."

"Which would have been?"

"Delmar secured a deal with Mr. Noriega. A half-dozen of our men-you included- will be at their beck and call to help lower the price of the weapon shipment. They wanted to schedule a meeting with the man we were putting in charge."

"Well, I'm nothing if not punctual," You sigh, sinking back into your seat.

Christina allows herself a smirk before shaking her head.

"So it would seem whatever they have planned for you and your team will happen in a few days time. Any ideas on what it might be?"

>Take a guess.
>"I don't really know, to be honest."

>>
>>32811090
From his tone it sounded like he wants to clear house...at least in the long run.

Maybe a simultaneous assault on local major Imperial Institutions - the governors palace, PDF HQ, etc. But that would require heavy firepower and a large amount of supporters, too many to hide easily.
>>
>>32811258
Spoken like a true shadow runner

>>
>>32811090
My guess? The non general officers will stage a takeover against the good general, from there, there's an equal chance of them submitting again to imperial authority or of defecting to the tau and forcing the civilians and thief government to comply.
>>
>>32811329
Oh, and if they do defect, please try to convince the Inquisitor not to declare Exsterminatus
>>
>>32811370

"They talked about 'cleaning house.' A coup, maybe? A world-wide uprising? Though I don't think they could just sneak enough hardware in for something like that," You think aloud.

"It would get obvious quickly, even enough to get the attention of the Arbites," She nods. "Anything else?"

"Something smaller, but still with a major impact. My guess is their primary target is Lord General Gagne and those under him."

"My thoughts are something similar. At least that shrinks our options of targets. Now we just have to concentrate on local Imperial High Command, and those related to them. If we're lucky we can stop them before they get a chance to act, but we'll just have to see."

>"...do we have to stop them?"

The Inquisitor's shoulders slump at that, giving you a wary look.

"So you say, ma'am."
