You are Zhu Xing, from the city of Xu Chang. Seeking out your destiny, you joined the infamous Dong Zhuo who took over the Han court and declared himself Prime Minister. Having fought well in numerous battles, you became Lu Bu's friend and quickly rose through the ranks as an officer. With the capital city of Luo Yang abandoned and razed to the ground by Dong Zhuo's force, you are now at Chang An. You've gained some fame by helping the populace and defeating the Qiang forces. Another new month starts, as Dong Zhuo's infamy grows every single day and his relations to his officers sour.

Part 2: http://archive.foolz.us/tg/thread/32683252/

>the difficulty of the game will be "medium." Death won't be lurking in every corner, but too many mistakes, stat check failures, and the like will mean the end of the character
>if the character dies, you can then play an heir to the character following him, or a completely new one if you wish. The goal is to get to a unified China regardless whether you "win" or "lose"
>try not to meta the game as much as possible when following through some of the famous events
>this will heavily rely on the novel and history, and little bit on Dynasty Warriors. So no, don't expect to rambo in 1000 soldiers by yourself
>>
Winter passes by. The lords and nobles of Chang An eat well and sleep comfortable by their fires, while the peasants suffer and die. Dong Zhuo makes no effort to lower his high taxes and abuse of the people. Most of the lords across the land stop their fighting for a while and build up their strength. You spend most of your days drilling the troops (+2 Lea) and visiting Lu Bu occasionally. You are given your salary (+60 gold)

Spring time comes, and soon enough the other lords will begin their marches again. You hear rumors that Dong Zhuo and Lu Bu's relationship has taken even an even worse dive; apparently a handmaiden has come between them. The handmaiden is said to be Wang Yun's daughter.

What do you do now?

>Patrol the streets and keep order
>Abuse a bit of your power and take from the populace
>Help the populace out and get some support from the people who already dislike your force

>Train a stat (Choose)

It's probably time for us to delve into intrigue.

If Lu Bu's relationship with Dong Zhuo is an all time low, now might be a good time to discretely pledge our loyalty to Lu Bu.

We made friends with that one guy we fought with against the bandits.

I'm hoping we meet Zhuge Liang through Lu Bu sempai

We have 140 gold so we can probably buy one of Family Banner or Widow Bow.

Gliding Spear would also be useful (+2 War) or Whispering Blade as a compromise between the Bow and the Spear.

We are bros with Fan Chou now. It would be helpful to meet other generals too, but we should keep an eye on our meal ticket.

If we're going to get the Family Banner at all, we need to get it ASAP to reap the benefits.
>>
>Visit someone of importance and improve relations (Lu Bu)

With the rumors spiraling out and sending vibes of worry through the state, you decide to pay Lu Bu a visit. You visit his house, but the servant tells you that he is not present at his home. He tells you that instead he is at the local tavern. You thank the servant and visit the place.

It's a small place without much patrons and made of wood. Off in the corner by a small fire is Lu Bu, still in his battle garments. There are some empty jars of wine in the table and you can see he is drinking away. It seems most of other guests here are staying away, afraid that they might anger Lu Bu.

You walk up to Lu Bu and give a bow. He glances at you, his face hazy and obviously drunk.

"What do you want, Zhu Xing?" he asks, pouring himself another cup.

>Ask him if you can sit and have a drink as well
>Ask him what's wrong

I'd like to ask for the attention of my fellow anons.

I suggest that we should start going to visit wang yun in order to prevent the collapse of the faction when the 4 generals are refused amnesty.

I know that this is meta-gaming but hear me out, if we want try making this faction into a one that might be able to stand on its own two feet, we need to intervene somewhere which caused a historical collapse. With the correct influencing of wang yun, we create a faction a has Wang Yun as a Prime Minister, Lu Bu as its head warlord and a core of liang troops and supporters who will not rebel as long as they are not trampled upon. This sets the foundation for a strong side and deprives Cao Cao of his captive Emperor to lend legitimacy to his side. Liu Bei will likely remain contented in his county holdings, not being usurped by his guest, Lu Bu; he might even answer the call if the Emperor put out a call for loyal subordinates to join him.

We make this one change, we change the landscape on the entire Wei Qi board. From that point on, we can't metagame and we enter full alt history mode.
>>
>>32767932
>I know that this is meta-gaming
cmon, man.
>>
>>32767932
Sure, that sounds like a plan. I'd just like there to be some reason for our character to go talk with Wang Yun aside from metagaming.
>>
>>32767670
>Ask him if you can sit and have a drink as well
>>
>>32767985
He's probably well known enough that we would have heard of him.
>>
>>32767932

Only if Lu Bu gives us a reason to visit Wang Yun.

I'd hate to metagame in a game like this.

But we do have good relationships with Fan Chou so we might be able to help him out as well.
>>
>>32767932

I'd rather just join Lu Bu's wild ride and fight our way across China.

Seriously though, we don't know a single piece of info about the Zhou's court aside from Lu Bu not being happy. This is a retarded amount of meta-gaming, maybe if we had been introduced to Wang Yun already, but i don't think the GM will (or should) allow that.
>>
>Ask him if you can sit and have a drink as well
You smile and politely ask him if you can sit and have a drink with him as well. He snorts with a wave of his hand.

"Go right ahead."

As you sit, he places a cup in front of your seat with a hard thud. He pours a drink in the cup, but it is sloppy and splashes of white whine spill. He doesn't seem to care as he pours himself next and takes a deep drink.

"What a damned sorry state of affairs I've come to. Bah," he mutters.

>Ask him what's wrong
>Throw praises at him in an attempt to cheer him up
>State that things are fine, and continued loyalty to Dong Zhuo will do good
>>
>>32767985

Well we've heard of the rumblings of him plotting and that his daughter is in the middle of Dong Zhuo and Lu Bu. Thats enough reason to go and seek him out, to see what he intends. Zhu Xing has relatively high Int, he'd know something is up.

Armor. We keep stacking up minor wounds.

>Ask him what's wrong
>"It's Dong Zhuo, isn't it?"
You take a drink from your cup calmly.

"General Lu Bu is one of the highest ranked men in the state. He is usually boasting with confidence, and full of vigor. When I see him in a tavern, drinking by himself, it troubles me and makes me think there is something wrong."

You place your cup down, and look at Lu Bu in the eyes.

"It's Dong Zhuo, isn't it."

A small silence brews, as Lu Bu stares back at you. After a few seconds, he frowns and look away.

"You've been a damned nosy one, haven't you?" he mutters. "I have served the Prime Minister loyally and made many grand deeds. If not for me, would not the coalition lords have taken the Son of Heaven in to custody and destroyed this force?"

Lu Bu, as arrogant as he is, is beginning to say some treacherous words...

"Tell me Zhu Xing, have you been in love?" he asks taking another deep drink from his cup.

>Tell him briefly about your past relations and make a joke
>Tell him that you've been looking in to marriage and expanding your own clan
>Get to the heart of the matter and talk about the handmaiden you've heard about

If we have to buy something at this early stage, Banner.

I'm not entirely sure about that

>>32768328

I wish we knew how long we're going to stay in Chang'An for. I'd like to earn some money / stats by helping the locals then buy some gear before Spring comes, which is going to be huge.

Best bet would probably be armor. But i'd like to have a Banner by the time we start engaging with other armies since we are an Officer now.

The second choice is even worse.

I am ambivalent the joke option at the end, but you don't talk about business and formalities with a drunk man looking to talk about his love troubles.

A little self depreciating humor about our past loves seems to fit the situation better than a business discussion.

Best way to get someones panties, trust me, thats how I got a wife
>>
>>32768724

But do we want to get into Lu Bu's panties?
>>
>Tell him briefly about your past relations and make a joke
"Love?" you reply, stroking your chin and looking upward at the ceiling. "When I was a growing boy, there were quite a few girls at Chang An. Lovely flowers they were. I took a few of them to my bedside and had some relations here and there. Plucked their petals; some of them their first. You'd be surprised at how many women are willing to marry you when you're a noble. But love... Bah, I'll not let a woman tie me down like that. I got things to kill and armies to command."

Lu Bu chuckles slightly, and nods.

"Love makes us all weak, it seems. You've probably heard about the girl that I've been seeing. Diao Chan. The most beautiful woman I have laid my eyes on, and she's treated me with kindness. When Wang Yun invited me to his household, I could not help but be captivated by her. Wang Yun even offered me her hand in marriage. But that damned Dong Zhuo!"

He slams his hand.

"He takes her away from me, makes her his own. He had a hundred other women in his harem, but he has to take Diao Chan! And after the years of service I have given him, he even had the nerve to throw weapons at me!"

You tap Lu Bu on his arms, reminding him to keep it down.

"What shall I do, Zhu Xing? I am backed in a corner."

You feel a sense of danger prickle past your mind. Lu Bu is asking for advice, and you might influence something big...

>Say you cannot afford any advice and stay silent

From my understanding, they're honorifics derived from basic military positions.

So, "Guardian of West Gate Infantry" is like, one of 4 infantry commanders, one for each gate or some such. It's just an over-technical way of explaining who and what they command.

Seriously though, if we want something like that then may e we should continue helping the peasants that already like us out in the fields. Get a popular revolt of farmers going
>>
>Tell Lu Bu, that perhaps, a certain man needs to be killed and another man needs to take charge
You think to yourself for a moment. You have served Dong Zhuo faithfully as well, but recently the man has not rewerded you for defeating the Qiang. He is also a brazen tyrant and making things more difficult by abusing the people. He's raped many women, killed many loyal men of the Han, and even had the audacity to loot the tombs of the great Emperors of the past.

"Perhaps... It is time for Dong Zhuo to die, and for you to take charge, General," you whisper quietly.

Lu Bu looks at you in surprise. He was not expecting such words to come out of you. He was expecting some reassurances from a friend... But words of rebellion?

"What are you saying, Zhu Xing?" he hisses quietly, looking around and making sure no one is listening. "Have you gone mad?"

"General, your valiant efforts and deeds have made Dong Zhuo what he is today. He gets to fatten himself up, only because you are there to protect him and root out trouble. And yet, he takes Diao Chan from you, and even makes attempt at your life. He is beginning to lose the support of the people. No... He has never had support from them in the first place. He has only controlled the court so far with fear. General, should you kill the man, offer your loyalties to the Emperor, and raise your forces... Surely you can win the land."

A silence hangs in the air as you mutter these words. Lu Bu leans back, obviously uncomfortable. He looks down at his feet, places a hand on his chin. He seems lost in thought. After minutes pass by, he finally speaks.

"...Yes. I am a hero, am I not? I should bring the treacherous Dong Zhuo down... Save the Han... And fight for my woman. But who will support me in this matter?" he says with a frown.
>>
>>32769179
Thanks for the support, anon.

The rest of you lot have to remember that this is 190 AD. Back then, people didn't unify that rapidly. Loyalties for the most part stuck to family, clan, village, province, region, then the central government.

People back then would much rather support someone who is a local, home-grown hero than some random schmuck from all the way from the northlands or the east coast. If anything, we need to go about looking for local patriarchs and matriarchs and gather the support of the local people as well as convince watch commanders and sergeants to be loyal to us (or eventually our Clan once we get that blasted Clan banner) instead of the corrupt central government headed by Prime Minister Dong Zhuo.
>>
>>32769297

Man, can you imagine Lu Bu as Emprah?

Its like Sigmar all over again
>>
>>32769302

PUMP THE BREAKS.

We need to take this slow, Lu Bu is going a mile a minute, we need Wang Yuns side of the coin.
>>
"General, if you are willing to commit to the cause, I, Zhu Xing of Xu Chang will be willing to follow you to the ends of the earth. I am Commandant of the Guards and I control the men of this city. The men trust me, as does the populace of Chang An. Allow me to make friends and garner support for you. We will soon have an army at your backs, and we will take Dong Zhuo's head.”

A smile, bright as a sun appears on Lu Bu's face.

“Zhu Xing, you are truly a good friend!” he says, clasping his hands on yours. “Yes, I will be willing to kill Dong Zhuo. We should need a few months to prepare, and then we can slay the beast.”

You nod and smile.

“Yes, General. The Prime Minister is surely the most benevolent lord and a true servant of the Han. I hope we will march together soon, so that we may continue to expand his domain and put the other treacherous lords to heel,” you say out loud in the tavern.

You and Lu Bu spend the rest of the day pretending your continued loyalty and drinking merrily as if no words of treachery were ever spoken in the tavern.

(Cha +5)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

A week passes. You spend time obtaining the loyalty of the soldiers under your command, but making sure yet not to speak any words of rebellion. You learn of the other officers at Chang An, and many of them do not support Dong Zhuo. You think that this will be an easy plan.

One night, you are sleeping comfortably in your bed. You are however wakened by your servant. He informs you that a man has come to visit you, and no matter what, he insists on seeing you. It is midnight, and you grit your teeth. Who in the world would come here at this time?

>Go out and meet this visitor.
You dress yourself, and go out to meet your visitor. You are not really worrited about any assailants. Who in the right mind would try to assassinate you in such a direct approach, especially in your household that has guards around it?

You go out to your front gates, your servant following with torch in hand. You see a visage of a man, slightly leaning at the front gates. When you come close, and the light reveals his face, you find that it is Wang Yun.

"Greetings, Commandant. Might we have a few words?"

You inwardly smile. You already know what this might be about.

"Yes, please, do come in."

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Wang Yun is dressed in commoner's clothing. It seems he has taken caution to make sure no one knows he is here at your household. You make sure to take the same caution, and order only dim lights to be lit at the guest room. You order your servant to make sure word of this never gets out, and he simply responds that he saw nothing this night before pouring a cup of tea for you and Wang Yun.

What do you say to your visitor?
>Play the game of politics. Ask him why he's here
>Get straight to the point. Tell Wang Yun to help you kill Dong Zhuo

We have the fucking city guards, he's not going to screw us over. It's just an opening comment.
>>

THIS. Social niceties were important back in the day!
>>
>>32769916

That's dumb.

1. We don't have the power to grant concessions that will enrage Lu Bu. We are still a subordinate of Lu Bu in many in this conspiracy.

2. He's too invested in the conspiracy to risk us getting pissed for some concessions.

3. He's in a compromising position in our home, he's put his fate in our hands. He has already conceded some power to us.

You gesture politely towards his cup of tea, and Wang Yun nods in thanks. He takes a sip from his cup and remarks that it is a good brew.

"Thank you for your visit, Minister Wang Yun. Tell me though, it is quite late; to what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?"
"I cam simply to see how the Commandant is doing and if he is faring well."
"Oh? This late at night? And in such clothing as well, I may have mistaken you for someone else, Sir."
"Pray forgive me. I am an old man, and grow senile every day."
"No matter, no matter. I am honored to take a visit from an esteemed minister. I have been doing quite fine these days."
"I have heard. You also seem to be doing well, winning the support of the people, and the guards as well. I hear that recently you've been looking in the court yourself."
"You seem to know quite well. Have you been keeping tabs on me, Sir?"
"When a general begins to look in to the civil world, some begin to wonder. It is custom after all for warriors and generals to stay out of politics and keep to their duties."
"Of course. I simply was making sure as Commandant of the Guards that everything is accounted for and the peace is kept. The Prime Minister is a good man, but it sometimes falls upon me to clean up... certain messes he makes. Like rumors that he is mistreating General Lu Bu."

Both of you exchange various words, probing at each other and equivocating. (Pol +3) Wang Yun is old, but he seems to have a good head and a way with words. After a good lengthy discussion, Wang Yun gets up and bows.

Speaking of which, we may have to read up on the 36 Stratagems in-character so we don't do anything that runs against the Art of War by Sun Tzu.
>>
>>32770443

We should buy gear and start training our stats once the initial plans for this betrayal are in place.

Assuming we find a good transcription. They didn't exactly mass-produce them in those days, and the writers may not take down everything accurately. But a well-made transcription of a war classic... not only is it good study for our skill in war and intelligence, it'd be a great bribe for a strategist.

I mean, a young, inexperienced but headstrong commander looking to expand his knowledge of battle doesn't seem THAT out of place.

There's also the 2010 Three Kingdoms live action show, which actually starts right around here (a little before, actually, with Cao Cao's failed attempt on Dong Zhuo's life)

That'd be another good way to start.

>Declare your loyalty to the Han, and intent to kill Dong Zhuo
You rise from your chair, and move toward Wang Yun. Grabbing him gently by his elbows, you lift the old man up back to his seat and proceed to bow yourself.

"Do not lower yourself to someone like me, Minister. I am but a servant of the Han; a sword to smite evil and treachery. I have long waited this day for an opportunity to kill Dong Zhuo and rid this land of this pestilence. With your help, and the support of the other civil ministers, I can accomplish this task and restore power back to the Emperor."

Wang Yun is nearly in tears. "Truly? Will you save the Han, Zhu Xing?"

Rising, you walk to the side of the room to take your sword. You take the blade form its sheath, and cut a streak across your hand. Balling your hand to a fist, blood dripping, you pour it to your cup of tea and sip from it.

"I swear by my blood and my ancestors, I will either kill Dong Zhuo or die trying."

The old bursts in to tears. He drops to the floor, and bows deeply to you.

"Bless you Zhu Xing, bless you."

Hours pass. Wang Yun informs you that next week, you will initiate the plan to kill Dong Zhuo. He is visiting his mother, and when returning, armed guards will be waiting at the palace to murder him. You will escort Dong Zhuo to the palace yourself.

You nod to Wang Yun, and make say your farewells.
>>
>>32770536
The day of the plot comes. You informed Lu Bu about Wang Yun, and he is happy that the man is now part of your fold. As told by Wang Yun, Dong Zhuo went outside the city to visit Meiwu and give his honors to his mother. When he returns, you greet Dong Zhuo politely at the gates. With your most trusted guards, you escort Dong Zhuo to the palace. Dong Zhuo mutters some sayings to you.

“Zhu Xing, you have been loyal to me and a good general. I will raise you another rank when we return. Lately, I have not been getting along with my foster son. But today I will make amends with Lu Bu. We will then gather the armies, and march out to destroy Cao Cao. We will reach out dream soon enough, and make a land of paradise for ourselves.”

You nod politely, and thank Dong Zhuo for his generosity. Throughout the way, Dong Zhuo seems rather uncomfortable. He sees ill looking omens around him, and even at one moment, the sun is eclipsed and the day turns black for a few seconds. You assure Dong Zhuo there is nothing wrong, and he takes some comfort in your words.

You reach the palace. Dong Zhuo gets off his carriage, and proceeds to walk toward the palace.

A sudden cry comes out from the sides of the palace, and armed men come charging out. The loyalist guards stationed there are caught by surprise and quickly killed.

“What!?” Dong Zhuo screams. “Protect me! Zhu Xing, escort me back to the palace!”

But you and the guards that were keeping the carriage in check do not protect Dong Zhuo. You and your men instead close the entrance gates of the palace.

“What are you doing!? Zhu Xing!”

“Death to the traitor!”

A shout comes from the palace. Wang Yun comes, Lu Bu beside him.

“Dong Zhuo! In the name of the Emperor, we hereby decree your death!”

Lu Bu lunges at Dong Zhuo with his mighty halberd, and pieces Dong Zhuo through the chest before he can run.

Cheers run across the palace. The loyalist guards throw down their arms and are taken prisoners. You, Wang Yun, and Lu Bu make your way to the palace and to the Emperor, and bow in his prescence.

“Dong Zhuo is dead! May your majesty reign in peace!” Wang Yun cries out.

The Emperor, a mere teen, begins to shed tears. He has been victimized by Dong Zhuo for a long time, and is finally free. The other ministers begin to cry as well, bowing their heads lowly. Shouts of “Wan sui, wan sui, wan sui!” ring throughout the palace.

How do you respond?

At the point where Dong Zhuo actually died? Dong Zhuo had already abandoned one capital and fled to another.

Cao Cao and Yuan Shao might be able to steal the credit for having driven him to ground, but Lu Bu comes out of this smelling like... well, not roses exactly on account of the patricide, but he comes out of it with a much better reputation than he did historically. Wang Yun is still alive, and if we convince Fan Chou, we look like Han loyalists just waiting for our chance which puts us in a position of virtue. Cao Cao's going to have a much harder time 'saving' the Emperor if there's nothing to save him from.
>>
>>32770722
It is more than that. He said he was also going to make amends with Lu Bu and focus on fighting upstarts like Cao Cao. Perhaps, if things had been a bit different he could have been a great leader and not the worthless man we had killed.

This would weigh heavily on me, but I stress that this is simply myself. I am likely too softhearted to commit an act of betrayal like this irl

Anon, Dong Zhuo already abandoned Luoyang, we are in Changan right now.

Especially since the Emprah and his ministers didn't flee from Chang An to a burned down Luo Yang after the whole squabbling shenanigans that happened after Lu Bu killed Dong Zhuo and fled after the other generals ganged up against Lu.

If anything, we have set ourselves up as the Han Loyalist faction and can easily advance our own agenda against the other warlords by having the Emprah issue a Imperial Edict against them.

>>
>Bow down and give your respects as well
While the other ministers and men are truly supporters of the Han and are crying their hearts out, you aren't exactly that big of a loyalist. You have some loyalty to the Han, but you also did this for Lu Bu and to rid the land of a fool. You simply bow and give your respects. Lu Bu does the same; he is a man who did this rebellion for himself more than saving the Han.

The Emperor makes the people rise. He makes Lu Bu a Marquis and Marshal, Wang Yun a Senior Minister and private tutor of the Emperor, and you a lord and General Who Exterminates Rebels. Lu Bu is greatly pleased by his rewards and bows low, while Wang Yun speaks of his unworthiness and cries more. You follow Lu Bu and bow as well.

After the ranks are given out, those who were loyal to Dong Zhuo are brought and killed. In particular, Li Ru, the main adviser of Dong Zhuo is beheaded and ordered that he will receive no funeral. As the executions are carried out, noise of crying and lamenting comes out. Wang Yun angrily orders the man crying to be brought out.

An old man is put in front of the Emperor. Wang Yun demands to know who he is, and why is he is crying when tyrants and villains are being killed. The man informs you all that he is Cai Yong, history writer, poet, and a minister.

"Though Dong Zhuo was a tyrant, he was still my master and I his servant. I do not hold loyalty for him, and I plan to continue to serve the Son of Heaven to my deathbed. But with tradition and following ancient rites, I must mourn for the late Prime Minister."

Wang Yun orders the man executed, but the other men intervene and plead for him to live. Wang Yun orders him to be sent to prison instead.

"Wait, Minister," you state coming from the sidelines.

"Minister Cai Yong is a loyal man and a vital part to this court. We would be doing an injustice to remove him from court, lest of all send him to prison. To cry and mourn Dong Zhuo, a traitor and tyrant as he may be, speaks for Minister Cai's character. If the Minister truly did not care for the Han or the Son of Heaven, and was a true servant of Dong Zhuo, I would think that he would have kept silent at the sides. At this moment we must make certain the real traitors are removed, and the true servants remain in service."

Wang Yun strokes his bead, contemplating over the issue.

"Very well. Pardon me, Minister Cai Yong. I may have been overzealous. Please forgive me, and please continue to serve this state well."

Cai Yong bows in thanks, to both Wang Yun and you before returning.

(Cha +2)

Next, the issue of the Xiliang generals come to play. Li Jue, Guo Si, Zhang Ji, and Fan Chou. Wang Yun decrees that these men were Dong Zhuo's loyalists, and are power-hungry sycophants. They must be put to death. Many of the others are in agreement.

Would that work? If we beat back the three commander's alliance and hold Chang An, Wang Yun remains the most obvious face. Trying to claim Lu Bu controls the court when he seems more interested in fighting and making more kids with diaochan would be hard sell.
>>
>>32771289
... tteeeechnically we were a draft Lieutenant under Lu Bu. But we were still a no-name LT with zero confirmed kills under our belt, so yeah, that whole mocking thing was understandable.

We should probably rub some petty salt into the other 3 gits wounds. Then turn to Fan Chou and say:
>Out of the esteemed generals kneeling here, only General Fan Chou recognized me for my worth. In respect to the General's life, I humbly plea for his life as he has treated me as kinsman in the past.
>>
>>32771289

It was a dumb decision, but fuck them anyway. Zhu Xing doesn't forget his embarrassing episodes.

>>32771289
That is true, however they were still assholes to us. At least Fan Chou wasn't a total dick to us about it
>>
>>32771330

If worse comes to worse and we fail this roll, i'm sure we can make a plea to the Emperor to save Fan Chou as recompense for our role in deposing Dong Zhou, give up our generalhood maybe and serve Lu Bu.

That is, if this roll fails, which i doubt it will.

General Who Exterminates Rebels is a pretty nifty title for Zhu Xing.

>Plead for just Fan Chou

Once again, you step out from the sides and bow.

"Minister, pardons. But I must speak again. While I agree that Generals Li Jue, Guo Si, and Zhang Ji should be executed, for they are ambitious and greedy men, I must ask that you pardon General Fan Chou. I am afraid he has been assigned to the wrong area and that he is being mislabeled with the three three generals. Last year I fought against the Qiang with General Fan Chou, and I learned that he was a good man and capable leader. I vouch for both his abilities and his character.

Wang Yun grunts a bit, and looks slightly annoyed.

"General... You seem to be speaking out much today against the wishes of the court... However... You were an instrumental part in removing the pestilence of this court. And the people can vouch for your goodwill. Very well, I shall pardon Fan Chou. The other three however will be killed."

You bow in thanks, and return to the sides.

(Cha +2)

The rest of the day follows with more appointments, more traitors being killed, and a declaration throughout the city of Dong Zhuo's death. The populace cheer and herald you and the others as heroes. Dong Zhuo's body is thrown out to the streets, and the angry peasants mob his dead body by stabbing him repeatedly and burning his body.

All in all, it was a grand day and to be remembered. Your deeds reach across the land and people have have heard your name and what you did.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

A few days pass. You hear rumors that the generals in Xiliang are staging a rebellion. For now, you can do nothing as the court is reorganized and the streets are kept in order.

You are training your sword-arm one day. Your servant informs you that a noble lady wishes to see you. You slightly frown, as it will interrupt your training and progress. Should you receive the visitor?

This, but if we do we can't get hitched to Lu Bu's daughter 'cause we would then be related. And that's taboo as hell.

Case in point; Zhao Yun defeated that one guy who also had his family name. Beat the guy senseless, ended up finding out said dude was pretty chill and ended up swearing brotherhood with him. Then dude-man brings out his dead brother's widow and proposes that Zhao Yun gets hitched with the widow. Zhao Yun gets mad and punches the guy for this breach in protocol and etiquette.

"Thank you for receiving me General. I am Cai Yan, daughter of Minister Cai Yong. I have come to thank you for pardoning my lord father."

>>
>>32771693
We should contact Wand Yun about holding a festival and or investing in the lower classes.
>>
I've been reading through the two previous threads and notice a big flaw in our combat tactics. Why the hell have we not been using fire attacks? Fire attacks are fucking auto win in this period, and if that fails we can always rely on the age old pincer attack.
>>
>>32771709
Mainly because the first fire tactics was going to be hard.
That and INT, which is required for fire tactics is essentially our second lowest stat.
>>
>>32771709

Reason 1: Our intelligence is notably lower than our war stats, so we tend to be far more effective when we use our might to rally the troops.

Reason 2: Raian himself pointed out in Thread 2 Q&A that fire tactics were a trap option when defending Luoyang.

Sun Jian had much higher INT than us and we actually made the right choice by holding the line.
>>
>>32771708
I would be cautious on contacting Wang Yun. He didn't seem that happy with us with all of our requests, and with the position he is in now I don't want to temp pissing him off more.
>>
>>32771732
No its not. It's our mid stat. Leadership and war are higher, politics and charisma is lower.
>>
>>32771709
I actually recall OP saying that a fire attack would have been more likely to fail at one point instead of simply using the high ground to our advantage
>>

>>
>>32771746
We were also facing against Sun Jian who had deployed scouts ahead of his vanguard to ensure that he wouldn't be walking into fire attacks and ambushes.
>>
>>32771709
Well, fire attacks require favorable winds or they can blow back in your face, and we're not great strategists, which means against top-tier heroes known for their wit we're much better off doing shit Flying General style.

You ask her about her poems and for her to recite one. She is delighted with the request, and actually informs you that she made one the other day. The poem is about the harshness and tribulations of Winter, but how the coming of Spring brings new life and restoration to the land.

>The land is frosted over, flowers wilt in the garden
>The river Liao is frozen over,
>treacherous paths are made for those who walk upon

Yeah, but marriage order dictates the prestige of the wives. If we marry Lu Bu's daughter first, that would make her the 1st wife and therefore the head of the household when we're not around. Adding Cai Yan as 2nd wife would be a politically better choice than the other way around.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

A week passes by. You are given your salary, along with a personal gold fund from the Emperor for your deeds (+140 gold). By the week's end, order has been restored and most who are deemed rebels killed.

The rest is short-lived however. A soldier from the west comes in a panic, informing everyone that the Xiliang generals have risen in rebellion. They have informed the garrisons and soldiers at the west that Wang Yun planned to kill them all, and have created a vast army to take back Chang An.

The news is grim as you, Wang Yun, and Lu Bu gather at the council. Wang Yun is worried, and the other ministers are frightened. Their army is much greater than the forces at the capital, and it was a mistake to not pardon the generals.Fan Chou has yet to return a reply and there is no word from him despite the pardon.

Lu Bu stands up.

"They are but sheeps led by other sheep. I am Marshal now. Give me the elite troops, and let me go crush them."

The ministers discuss, and they believe there is no choice but to fight them. Staying here and being surrounded through a siege, especially with Chang An's poor farmlands can mean certain defeat.

Wang Yun gives his thoughts.

"General Lu Bu should take 75% of the force and march to meet the enemy. The rest of the troops must guard the city. We do not know if there are more rebels, and we do not know if Cao Cao or Yuan Shao may make a move on us. General Zhu should stay with us at the capital while the Marshall crushes the rebel army."

The plan sounds good, and most of the ministers agree. How do you reply?

>Agree, and make defenses at Chang An

25% of the forces are there.

We are friends with Fan Chou, he controls the bulk of the enemy forces (or at least he did last time we saw him), if we can convince him to leave the rebellion, we can avoid massive bloodshed and maintain our only bro outside of Lu Bu.

>>
>>32772454

>>
If we can buy, here are my suggestions.

> Wind Bow: 100 gold (Chance of wounding enemy officer in duels as a separate check)

We're probably going to be dueling and being a bow bound horseman will be sick.

> Iron Armor: 70 gold (+1 War, It's better than the Leather Armor...)

Better than leather armor.

> Family Banner: 100 gold (+2 Pol, People recognize your clan better and your fame grows slight better)

This is our biggest chance to build a name for ourselves outside of Lu Bu and the people of Chang'An.
>>
>>32772476
We should probably check the shop and see if there's anything new, but I'd say Iron armor or wind bow, Family Banner stuff we can gain over time.
>>
>>32772476
I'm not sure if the wind bow or the sword are better, honestly. +1 war isn't much, but it's there all the time.
>>
>>32772492

We have 280 gold, we can buy all 3.
>>
>>32772476
I suggest the banner horse and if we can afford it the halberd

Halberds are heroes choice weapons
>>
>>32772505
We should be war-centric right now, considering we are in active combat.
>>
>>32772498

The stats on most of the items we were presented with are minimal at best, i'm looking at the effects. I get the feeling if we do go with Lu Bu, we're going to be dueling some of those lords we didn't pardon (or atleast i hope we get to).

Wind Bow + Whispering Blade could be awesome in terms of dueling.
>>
>>32772512
only weapon choices were bow, sword or spear. Spear gives +2 war but no dueling bonus. Sword gives +1 war and higher chance to wound in duels. Bow gives a separate check for wounds.
>>
>>32772514

Family Banner is important to get early, particularly before we enter major battle where we can get a large amount of fame.

Balanced approach seems to be advisable here.
>>
>>32772517
That's a good point, actually. The banner would be nice, but we're going to have plenty of battles after this. If both dueling weapons stack their bonuses, they would be vastly more useful than the banner.
>>
>>32772340
>Agree, and make defenses at Chang An

If Senpai fucks up we can cover his shit.
>>
>>32772476
>>32772498
>>32772517
>>32772522

This is all dependent on if OP lets us shop before riding out.

If he does though, i suggest Bow and Blade in case we duel (which if given the option we should, that will also make us a recognized name which overrides the need for the banner.)

Then we have 80 gold left, so probably just the armor, since we already have a horse.
>>
>>32772530
What's a banner going to do for us now?
We're a general, we're debating with the highest tiers of our own faction!
The banner will do little aside from make us well known among the enemy, which isn't a good thing, being underestimated is better than overestimated.

>Disagree, and ask that you march with Lu Bu
"I am General Who Exterminates Rebels," you declare. "I cannot do so by staying here. Let me march with Marshall Lu Bu."

The ministers are troubled by this response. Wang Yun looks at you with a worried expression.

"We do not have much capable generals here. We need someone of your caliber to defend the capital city."

You shake your head.

"Yuan Shao and Cao Cao will not move. They cannot attack here or they will put themselves in danger in lieu of the other force. Let me march with the Marshall."

Wang Yun sighs and strokes his beard. He doesn't think think it's a good idea.

"...Very well. We shall find someone else to lead the defenses. Safe travels, generals."

You march out with Lu Bu, 10,000 troops in total. A day of travel, and a report comes from a soldier.

"Generals Guo Si and Li Jue march here with 20,000 men. They are being advised by an advisor named Jia Xu. They have sent up camp on the hillsides."

Your own forces set up camp. As you make sure everything is going well, you hear an argument from inside the tent of Lu Bu.

"Father, I am a grown woman and a warrior now. I will march and meet the enemy as well."
"Damn it Lingqi! This is not a game, this is war!"
"I understand that! I am prepared to lay down my life for your cause!"

You do not want to interrupt, but you need to make plans to defeat the enemy with Lu Bu. You walk in and give a bow. The air is slightly awkward.

"Zhu Xing!" Lu Bu says. "Tell my foolish daughter her place!" he demands.

It seems you've been caught in an awkward position... You look at Lu Bu's daughter. She is young and dressed in black armor. Her hair is cut short and she looks back at you with fierce eyes. It seems she has taken some of her father's features; physically and the attitude.

Lu Bu grunts, and stays silent for a few seconds. He thinks over the issue, but before he can finish...

"I will fight whether you like it or not Father. I will not sit idly by and fiddled around for political purposes like the other women of this land."

She looks at you, and her brows furrow.

"And I will not be condescended down by anyone. I am a warrior of my own right, and if you both cannot respect my prowess, than I shall earn more kills on the battlefield than both of you by my own right."

She walks out the tent without another reply or chance for both of you to speak up. Lu Bu places a hand on his forehead and mutters.

"I've spoiled that damn girl too much. I wish she was like her sister, more respectful and obedient."

He sighs.

"But enough of that. Let us get to the battle at hand. We are facing Guo Si and Li Jue. They are but mere pigs and I will destroy them. I do not know what happened with those Zhang Ji and Fan Chou. Night raid worked last time. But we also held the line in our first encounter and it worked really well. We can try a Pincer assault if we split our unit. Or a Pincer assault with Lu Bu.

Either way. Here is what we know about them from our experiences.

> General Guo Si's 8000 met against Sun Jian's own 5000. Guo Si was thoroughly defeated. General Li Jue fell in to an ambush by Cao Cao, but managed to retreat in good order.

It seems Guo Si is the weaker of the two, getting thoroughly trounced by less men. I think he should be our primary target, if he can be routed by Sun Jian, he can easily be routed by Lu Bu + Us.

Either way, contacting, or attempting to contact Fan Chou should be our primary concern, it is after all the main reason we came out here.

"War" is everything to do with war.
>>
>Defend your location and attempt to draw the other two out
>Try to contact Fan Chou
You call in a soldier. You write a letter, and inform him to deliver it to Fan Chou. He looks at you with a slight frown.

"General... We do not know where Fan Chou is. Where shall I go?"
"I don't know, it's your damned job to find him! Go behind enemy lines or something!"

The soldier is flustered, bows, and goes out to deliver your message to Fan Chou. If he can... You then turn to Lu Bu, and declare that you should make defenses and hold the line. Lu Bu slightly frowns, and informs you that he would rather attack, but accepts your plan.

A day passes. You make defenses on your side, and throw taunts to the enemy. The enemy however do not budge from their hill spots. It seems they know the advantageous location they hold and will not fight you until you go to their side of the battlefield. The same happens the second day, and Lu Bu begins to grow more agitated at the lack of action.

What should you do?
>Keep the position, and tell Lu Bu to be patient
>Attack. Nothing will come out of just standing in position
>Perhaps try that raid again...
>>
>>32772906

In this quest, it's clearly not.
>>
>>32772897
>All he's good at is beating the shit outta people in a straight-up manner.
Admittedly, he does do that very VERY well.
>>
>>32772908

Two options.

Wait and see if your soldier found Fan Chou.
Night raid.

They have confirmed better location and more troops, attacking them head on is a total deathwish.
>>
>>32772908
"Lu Bu, you are the greatest warrior under the sun, with the power of the Emperor behind you, it is no wonder that they cower in the hills"
That being said, we need to keep contact with Chang An, I have a feeling it's under siege.
>>
>>32772908
So something needs to change. How about this. Lu Bu takes half our forces and makes it look like he's racing back to the capital. We keep the other half in our defensive positions. When the enemy attacks, we hold until Lu Bu's forces turn around as smash into their flank.
>>
>>32772908
>Make a feint; personally lead a quarter of the forces for a flank assault while Lu Bu takes half of the remaining force for a frontal assault.

Really wish we had surveyed the terrain beforehand. Then we'd find an advantageous place to fight.
>>
>>32772908
What is the terrain like and do we know if there is a town or how they're getting supplies? Because I have a crazy plan that might not work, but might work and if it does it'd be awesome.
>>
>>32772908

>Keep the position, and tell Lu Bu to be patient
>Perhaps try that raid again...

Tell Lu Bu that you are working on bringing Fan Chou to your side.

Since he's antsy, he could lead our elites in a night raid aimed at burning down their supplies while the rest of the army maintains its defensive position.

If we can burn down their supplies, they'll have to fight or retreat.
>>
>>32772908
>Keep the position, and tell Lu Bu to be patient

Not sure if Lu Bu will comply but we gotta wait for Fan Chou to be found
>>
>>32772936
This + >>32772931
>>
>>32772948
I'm not holding out much hope for that. We only sent out one guy. I had hoped to send out like 20.
>>
>>32772931
>>32772936
>>32772941
I was thinking of something similar to this. We send out small Fire Units under the cover of night, when morning comes we have Lu Bu lead a force to charge at the front.
When the enemy goes out to meet him, we have the Fire Units attack them from behind/attack their supply depots.
>>
>>32772960

The problem is that Fire Units would be detected in the morning.

Fire attack needs to happen at a night. We could do dual night raids with Lu Bu leading the main raid and us leading the fire units, but it seems needlessly duplicative.
>>
>>32772948

He might not even be here in the first place.

I suggest we do a combination of >>32772936 and >>32772931

If we can hold the line long enough and coax them into attacking us, Lu Bu will be able to flank them and DECIMATE them. We will probably take some losses though.

Also, we need to keep an eye on Chang'An, just in case Fan Chou and the other rebellious leader decided to attack the capital while we fight here.
>>
>>32772940
The terrain is rocky and mostly dirty. Slightly flat on your side, more heavy on theirs. They are holding high positions on two separate locations, but are close to another.
>>
>>32772936
>>32772931
Oh yes backing these
>>
>>32772908
Raian

Describe the terrain for us please
>>
>>32772936
I'll back this. It's relatively simple, but at the same time even if they know it's a trap the enemy will think their 2:1 advantage will let them fight through it.
>>
>>32772908
>>32772936
>>32772931

We can also spread rumors that Yuan Shao is attacking the capital.

This would make the enemy anxious to capture the capital before Yuan Shao does, which might make them more aggressive.
>>
>>32772931
Lu Bu's arrogant but he's not an idiot. I fear what might happen if we patronize him like that. Why can't we simply explain our plan to him to gain Fan Chou's help instead of coddling him like a child with empty praise?
>>
>>32772999

>>

>>32773009
I'm sorry, I replied to that post alone without reading the ones immediately after that.
>>
>>32772999

Lu Bu likes being praised, that's part of his personality, and we are also being quite upfront about his plans as well.
>>
So, everyone in favor of splitting the force, us defending and Lu Bu + Elites 'retreating' only to flank and save us should they attack?
>>
>>32773032
Yeah, seems like a solid plan.
>>
>>32773032
We should send a few scouts to check out An Chang while we do so though.
>>
>>32773032

I would also add in spreading rumors of the capital being under siege to give a plausible explanation as to why Lu Bu is retreating.
>>
>>32773043
I'm not sure how we'd accomplish that when two armies are facing off against each on separate hills.
>>
>>32773032
yep also a bonus in regards to Lu bu leaving is that the enemy will be overconfident when the learn Lu bu has left & overconfidence leads to mistakes.
>>
>>32773054

Camp followers perhaps? It would be difficult.

Here's what the terrain looks like. As stated before, the enemies are in higher positions at the top of hills, and in two separate forces but enough to reinforce each other. Your side is more flat. The enemy is a mix of infantry and cavalry.

So far is making Lu Bu pretend to go for the capital and side attack, or hold defensive positions. Unless you think of another plan, pick one of those two.

Oh, and 1d100 rolls.

>Lu Bu flank attack
>avg of 61
You inform Lu Bu that you need to draw out the enemy. You tell him he should make a pretend-withdrawal to the capital with half the forces while you hold the line. He frowns once again and informs you he just wants a straight up battle. But you convince him to follow up with the plan saying there will be glory.

Lu Bu leaves with half the force. A few hours pass, and the enemy is drawn out. They seem to be in much haste and eager to destroy you. They are moving towards your position.

You look at their army. They are overwhelming in size... And you sort of realize that but cutting your army in half, you've made it about 4-1 disadvantage. And these aren't just average green troops.... They are the experience Xiliang troops that have been fighting the Qiang for years...

Well, time to defend anyway. You organize your defenses and the line. The enemy charges at you like a wave, infantry at the center, their cavalry at the side. They crash in to your force and a large melee ensues. Your first lines manage to hold a bit, but after some time passes, they begin to falter. The enemy cavalry at the sides make their flanking attacks, and your lines break a bit.

You do your best to lead the man and keep formation. While you manage to keep your army away from complete collapse, casualties are beginning to pile up. You yourself fight off the enemy with your blade and spear, killing numerous soldiers. One enemy manages to wound you with a spear thrust at the side (Minor injury). Your forces at the front and flank are beginning to dwindle... And you feel this might be the end.
>>
Lu Bu's army arrives however, and they strike the enemy from the flank. It seems Guo Si and Li Jue were not expecting this. They do their best to hold the line, but their own formations crumble as your own forces push back. Lu Bu dives in and even manages to cut Guo Si's hand off before he flees and his men cover him.

The enemy takes some heavy losses as they run back to their positions. While they have take substantial losses, your own forces have taken losses as well... You tally your men and find that you have 6000 men left. The enemy have 12,000 men left.

You worry that the enemy reserves will come, but all is quiet so far as night passes. Lu Bu is proud of his achievements, and thinks the army should attack now since the enemy has been defeated and their morale low. Your army is quite battered however and exhausted, and the enemy reserves might come.

What do you do?
>Agree with Lu Bu, attack
>Hold the line here and get your men rested up

>Agree with Lu Bu, attack!
Somewhere, the gods are wondering what made you pull such a reckless move after having done well so far. Maybe Lu Bu is finally rubbing off on you in a bad away. Your men are tired and fatigued, and the numbers between your force and theirs have not changed much. And there was always that worry about enemy reserves... But what the hell.

You and Lu Bu charge the enemy. They are surprised that you would attack so quickly, but make their defenses. Their hill positions and the rocky terrain makes it difficult for your men to travel...

Your forces crash in to theirs. You and Lu Bu personally lead a group of soldiers and mow through a part of their ranks. Powerful as you both may be, it is not enough to change the tide of battle. The enemy, with their high positions and bigger numbers, push your men back. You and Lu Bu are forced back and take numerous casualties, and only the fact that Guo Si and Li Jue are barely competent allows your force to retreat.

By the time light comes, your forces have dwindled to 2000 men. You and Lu Bu now feel it's best to retreat back to the capital, but...

A soldier comes running to you from where Chang An was. He is battered, and collapses in front of you both.

You and Lu Bu are flabbergasted. You both demand an explanation from him.

“Generals Fan Chou and Zhang Ji had used a separate mountain path to reach Chang An with 10,000 of their own forces,” the soldier says crying. “Their attack and the forces here were all planned. They were to distract General Lu Bu's force, while the other generals were to lead a division to take Chang An. Apparently this was a stratagem all planned by the enemy strategist, Jia Xu. General Fan Chou was said to have attempted to come to our side, but the generals and ministers on our side refused to trust him and open the gates for his force. General Fan Chou thus attacked with Zhang Ji and Chang An is now under fire. I think that by the time we get to Chang An, it will be over by then.”

Lu Bu is outraged. He begins screaming and throwing curses. You begin to panic, but manage to collect yourself.

“General, all is lost! With our few remaining forces, we must abandon Chang An and head eastward! We can do nothing but regroup and plan our net course.”

Lu Bu's anger turns to despair.

“Diao Chan... I must get Diao Chan out first!”

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Your forces head to Chang An. As the soldier stated, it is all but lost and the enemy is already pouring in. You and your soldiers manage to sneak with your low numbers to another gate. You inform Lu Bu that there is no way you can hold the city, and only to get his family. He does so, and once Diao Chan and his other daughter is safe, you make plans to flee westward. However... Will you yourself run like a coward? Perhaps you should stay and defend the Han, no matter what...

We're wounded though, we should run, maybe try and carve out ourselves as loyalists, definitely earned some cred for deposing Dong Zhou though.

You are not going to die a needless death. You flee with Lu Bu westward. Before you flee, you throw curses at the top of your lungs to Fan Chou, whether he hears or not.

In the halls of the palace, Wang Yun lies tired at a table. His head is place on his forehead in frustration.

"Those fools... Those fools..." he mutters. "If only they had listened to me."

The Emperor comes from his rooms, fearful.

"Minister, what are we to do now? The enemy is pouring in. I... I fear for my life."

Wang Yun gets up and bows to the Emperor.

"This servant has failed the Son of Heaven, and a thousand deaths cannot atone for it. Your majesty... I will surrender myself to the enemy. Your majesty must listen to the enemy brutes and remain safe until another time comes. Guo Si and Li Jue will not last long, for they are foolish animals with no sense of anything but war. Alright. So first off, the decisions made when conversing with Lu Bu, Cai Yan, and Wang Yun and planning the rebellion went off well. Convincing Wang Yun to let Cai Yong and pardon Fan Chou was wise.

And... Once the rebellion goes is where things fall apart. Seriously, I wanted a scenario where Lu Bu/Wang Yun won against the Xiliang corps. To do so successfully, you needed to be at the capital to let Fan Chou in the city when he wanted to defect. The going out with Lu Bu or staying was a big test on the Lu Bu dick riding... And unfortunately, it failed to pass. >>32772404
That was actually me, trying to get you guys to rethink the situation.

In any case, the march was given out. I gave hints out that it was:
> Jia Xu who was planning the enemy plans in order to make you aware there was something up.
>Fan Chou/Zhang Ji missing from action, and people saying they had no idea where the two were.
>Guo Si and Li Jue being extremely cautious was also another hint. Why would a huge army trying to take the capital only defend?
>When Lu Bu made his feint for the capital, the enemy quickly moved from their positions. It wasn't because they thought they were gonna kill you and get glory, it was "FUCK they might have found out about our plan, we need to quickly defeat this guy and march to Chang An as well"

The retreat option would have given a chance to get to Chang An and arrive just in time for the siege. You could have led Fan Chou in at this point, and fought a hard siege to win it out.

Put yourself in Fan Chou's position. He is 1/4 the armies stationed in Xiliang. He gets pardoned by you, but what about the other three generals there? Will they take it lightly and let Fan Chou go while they will be killed?

Fan Chou was being smart. He was going to join you as soon as he got the chance, and that was reaching the capital. Unfortunately, no one else was going to trust him besides maybe you.

>Why so little troops?
Historically/novel, this was how it went. Most of Dong Zhuo's troops were stationed in Xiliang and Lu Bu/Wang Yun were outnumbered and defeated in a month.

As stated it before they attacked, the enemy generals convinced most of the other soldiers that they were going to be executed if they didn't join, so they all followed suit of Li Jue/Guo Si.

Because guess what kid, shit like what happened at Chang-An...happens all the time in real life. Especially in the Three Kingdoms era, and double-especially when the enemy has an exceptional strategist.

So either leave, or man-up and soldier on.

We knew going in that following Lu Bu was not the wisest choice, that it was going to be the hard mode.

The QM also downright told us that leaving Chang-An was a bad idea for this battle.

The rest of us are enjoying this quest, so again, either leave or man up. But either way, quit yer bitchin'.

>>32773773

My thoughts are two-fold:

(1) Practically he could have sent messengers guised as a scouting party. They could have been "captured" to deliver the message.

If he commands 1/4 of the army, surely there were more options.

(2) Speaking from a meta perspective, there needs to be a bigger hint as to Fan Chou's intentions.

Players are mostly unhappy because going out to Lu Bu was specifically for the purpose of finding Fan Chou in the reserves.

While I realize that you gave some hints, a hint specifically directed at this line of thought would have been incredibly helpful.

As it was, we had nothing to go on except to hope that "Fan Chou was being smart". That's not a hint, that's an assumption.

I will still follow the quest and look forward to rebuilding MC's power base but this would be helpful thing to address in the future.

>>
>>32773773

I think the easiest solution is to make hints more obvious.

I'm not saying make the quest dumber. It's just the nature of quests make it easier to overlook hints, particularly when it's a collective game with large audience.

One way to implement this is to go with your original hints at the start. If players blow over it, you can make it more obvious and introduce gradual consequences/diminishing returns.

Example:

We sally forth with Lu Bu, we get a late messenger that indicates that Fan Chou and the other guy is nowhere close to the battlefield.

That could serve as an impetus for retreat. But old hints will be disregarded by new action scenes.

If we continue to ignore that, then you could introduce a more obvious hint and more dramatic consequences for ignoring that.
>>

>>
>>32773800
>>32773802
He was on watch. As in, when you put someone on watch, guards are watching him and reporting his every action. Sure, if you were Fan Chou you could have thought up a really big plan and sneaking a message off through some way. Unfortunately, Fan Chou is just an NPC, and he is not going to do any convoluted plan to get a message out.

If the quest has outraged you that much, then fine, I'm not forcing you to stay. Thanks for playing so far, but I'm not going to change consequences and for me people who are familiar with traditional games should be experienced to deal with tragedies that befall them. Regardless, as I said, there was always a chance of dying and having to make another character to play further.

I wasn't trying to railroad either. I have no idea why you would think I am trying to make the players lose, and planned Lu Bu losing from the start.

>Unfortunately, Fan Chou is just an NPC, and he is not going to do any convoluted plan to get a message out.
Why not? You want it to be as realistic as possible, you want consequences? Then don't give us the "He's an NPC, he's clinically retarded." excuse.
If he really wanted to, he could get a message to us. Otherwise expecting us to be in the city when he wants to defect is ignorant and unlikely to succeed.
>>
Rainan, you did good, but a few suggestions.

1) most of tg isn't familiar with RoTK or strategy and tactics in general. Hints about what to do need to be a little more heavy handed. I picked up on them fairly easily, but I also have read RoTK and have a master's in military history. So people like me are the exception, not the norm.

2) Fan Chou did have several means to get messages out. Even under close watch. Perhaps a roll for it to succeed would have been a decent compromise?

3) ignore those crying railroading. They pop up in every quest where things don't go exactly right.

4) buying equipment should be something that does not take a whole turn

5) Did we save the kettle?
>>
>>32773907
To be fair we are the commander of the city guard, by all logic we should have been in the city.
>>
>>32773893
We should fight under Yuan Shao right up until he dies too, then move on and until Wu, Wei, and Shu have carved up the land and Lu Bu and us are in the south riding elephsnts into battle with the Nanman

That would be the shit
>>
>>32773887
OP, I am glad you uphold your standards and refuse to retcon.
I will be glad to play this quest with you, even if it means I have to forego sleeping at all.
>>
>>32773887
>I wasn't trying to railroad either. I have no idea why you would think I am trying to make the players lose, and planned Lu Bu losing from the start.
Because you seem to be going out of your way to give us as little information as possible, then calling it "consequences" when we don't read your mind.

The whole "Unfortunately, Fan Chou is just an NPC, and he is not going to do any convoluted plan to get a message out." doesn't help either, because it means that if they can potentially help us they won't because they're "just NPCs" but if we're fighting them, suddenly they're tactical geniuses.
>>
>>32773887
>>32773914

Seconding the equipment part.

I feel like the massive trade-off between buying equipments and doing something like raiding the tribes just doesn't make sense.

It wouldn't really change the difficulty of the quest either, as it is right now, it's more of an artificial difficulty barrier.
>>
Rolled 42

>>32773887
looks it fine if the hint isn't fuckhugemassive but if not even one poster has picked up on it, it's fairly safe to say your're doing it wrong.
>>
>>32773925
>but if we're fighting them, suddenly they're tactical geniuses.
We have decisively lost a grand total of one time.
>>
>>32773887
And if he was under such tight guard that he cannot even sneak a messenger out, how exactly was he planning to defect without losing most of his army? Is he going to just rely on our PC brilliance to ride in and save the day from his dumb NPC mind?
>>
>>32773887
The information we had was that an enemy army was approaching and that scouts couldn't find part of it. That's it.

We rode out with Lu Bu because we wanted to turn Fan Chou to our side based on the idea that he would be with an enemy army. Staying with the garrison sounded like a booby prize, especially since the only people in-character backing it were ministers we had no trust in and a political guy.

Expecting us to realize that 1. Fan chou was with a force going to siege the capital and 2.He would be able to defect only if we were at the capital when you give no fucking clue at all about the second in particular is just bad writing on your part.
>>
>>32773893
>We can join up with Liu Bei and the peasants.
Suspicious of Lu Bu, attempts to kill him/drives him off.
>We can join up with Cao Cao or Yuan Shao and re-take Chang An almost immediately
Suspicious of Lu Bu, attempts to kill him/drives him off.

Yes, both of those options ARE great ideas for getting us killed.
>>
>>32773939
>>32773941
These.
>>
>>32773942
Wu it is then? They've taken in dastardly rogues before (Gan Ning)
>>
>>32773942
Liu Bei and Lu Bu were actually bros for a while in the canon story, and that happened long after Chang An
>>
>>32773887

There's nothing you can do other than try. It's been good aside from this monumental fuck up, the blame for which can be spread evenly in my mind.

Glad you're not just throwing the towel in and undoing a major part of the story though, shit happens.

Also. If you don't want to make buying gear a free action, maybe give us a chance to buy gear for free, then if we want to buy more gear later in the same thread, make it a turn.

Because for now a 'turn' seems like a couple of months, and walking down to the local blacksmith as a general would only take an hour at best, rather than a whole turn.

Either way, this is my first thread and i'm super happy so far. Keep it up.
>>
>>32773914
Haha, this guy. What a tool.
>>
>>32773893

Nah, let's go recruit strategists and rebuild our power base somewhere.

Lu Bu's a famed warrior, it would be better to join a minor factor that we can take over instead of a major faction that would distrust us and prevent us from growing in power.

But there's been a difference.
There's been a huge political difference anon.
This wasn't "Lu Bu kills Dong Zhuo because he loves a bitch"
It was "Chang An kills it's corrupt ruler"
>>
>>32773951
Wu may be our best bet. We just have to convince Lu Bu not to act like a pompous jackass.
>>
>>32773959

This. Let's go build a power base, we killed Dong Zhou. I think we can build a pretty strong claim on the back of that deed.
>>
>>32773961
Maybe we can ask them for Jing province.
>>
>>32773958

>Herp derp derrrrp

Ftfy
>>
>>32773914
Noted. I'll try throwing bigger hints, but as a note for the future, I can't throw something that will be too obvious. Finding out enemy plans will come if proper stat checks succeed, such as having a high enough Int to counter Zhuge Liang.

>>32773914
All equipment intact.

>Fan Chou stuff
There's a fundamental difference in how we look at his situation and how much we expect him to do. I am not convinced there was anything wrong on that part besides a lack of bigger hints. If you disagree, and find the quest horrible because of it, well, I can't say much further.

>>32773939
I don't think I put details of the description of they attacked, sorry. Basically, Fan Chou attacks one part of the city gate, and Zhang Ji attacks another. Fan Chou takes this opportunity, since all three generals are now not next to his ass, to defect.
>>
>>32773960

This is one of our two glimmering rays of hope.

The other is the kettle.
>>
>>32773968

Look at our reputation

>Fame: Famous. Most people know of you and think you a loyal Han general.

We will obviously have Lu Bu, but our name should be helpful in building a power base as well.

Our reputation helps rehabilitate Lu Bu's.
>>
>>32773980

> KETTLE CONFIRMED.
>>
>>32773980
>All equipment intact.
OUR KETTLE IS OURS
ALL HAIL THE KETTLE
>>
>>32773980
So you're guaranteeing something like this will happen in the future. Good to know I can leave with no regrets.
>>
>>32773980

That sounds good, but can we have opportunities to buy equipment before we get thrown into a massive battle?

The option to purchase equipment in general shouldn't be so time intensive.
>>
>>32773975
>Brings out his e-peen and swings it around.
>I'm the the guy derping.

Only the purest faggot could do something like that.
>>
>>32773980

Yo man, mind updating the pastebin, including our age and our siblings ages.

Also.

I think now is the time to return to Xu Chang and get our siblings in order. Next thread is going to be building a power base.
>>
>>32774003
See you later bitch baby.
>>
>>32773980

Did we gain stats from this?

I mean, the first phase of the battle went well and we did kick all kinds of ass.
>>
>>32773980
>There's a fundamental difference in how we look at his situation and how much we expect him to do. I am not convinced there was anything wrong on that part besides a lack of bigger hints.
If he really wanted to defect, he would have sent a messenger. That's really all you need to do.
Just because "He's an NPC" doesn't give him an excuse to be retarded. If he planned it and wanted it to succeed, he would have used one of the many ways and snuck a message out.
>>
>>32773980
If they don't trust Fan Chou that much, why would they allow his army to go off by itself? It would make more sense for them to put his army as a vanguard, to prevent any pincer attack if he defected. Or send him to distract Lu Bu, since even if he defected, it would be too late as they would have already seized the city.

Besides, they most likely would have send some loyal troops to "guard" him to prevent any potential betrayal. I don't see how he could easily betray them just because they were assaulting different gates unless they were that dumb.
>>
>>32774049
>>32774045

Now that i think about it, why wouldn't the people in charge of Chang'An trust him?

I mean, he was already pardoned, and flat out requested to help them, knowing that you / Lu Bu weren't there.
>>
>>32773980
The basic disconnect here is that you've convinced yourself that your scenario is the only reasonable one.

It's not.
>>
>>32774045
>>32774049
>>32774070

I just retconned this in my head to "Fan Chou was never going to defect."

I just fundamentally disagree with the QM on the Fan Chou aspect but the results are the same anyway, so whatever.

He's going to die a painful death the next time we see him.
>>
>>32774003
Okay. Sorry to hear you were disappointed.

Just as a last note before I go to sleep. Believe me or not, I want the players to succeed. I want to make an alternate history path and see where that leads. I'm not a sadistic bastard, looking to make players fail and ruin their fun, and I don't see why you would ever think a QM would do that.

I want a game with thinking required. I saw through many of the decision making and discussion, and there were times when the players here OVER-THOUGHT on the consequences of actions. I thought a lot of the hints dropped would be enough, and have now noted there needs to be bigger ones in the future, which I will work on.

Despite all of that, I still have to refer to you back to the retreat option. I specifically pointed out the troops were tired, gave the numbers, and pointed out before the enemy were taking high positions. I pointed out again the other two generals were not there, and that they could even come as reserve reinforcements should you stay. It was my last effort to try and save the city and move on to a fictional path when Wang Yu and Lu Bu win.

I'm not insulting anyone here. But it WAS a bad decision.

Good night, and I hope players will still stay for the next phases. There's still a lot to be done, and I am still aiming to keep the quest going until the land is unified under someone.

(Lead +4, War +1, Int +2)
>>
>>32774070
They could've told him they would believe him if he attacked the other enemy forces. Or if he backed off to a defensive position and didn't attack the town at all. Once he was free of direct control, he had a force powerful enough to accede to requests like that. All we needed at that point was a messenger to come and pull us from the battle.
>>
>>32774086

Think nothing of it man, majority of people are happy, and even most of the people who are ticked off will stick around.

Thanks for running the game see you... Sunday 20:00 PST?
>>
>>32774086
WHEN'S THE NEXT GAME FAGGOT?
>>
>>32774101

I don't think anyone's really happy with the results, anon, but it's fine. Setbacks happen and more obvious clues should help next time.

Still one of my favorite new quests and I'm sure it will have more than a healthy playerbase.
>>
>>32774086
>I pointed out again the other two generals were not there, and that they could even come as reserve reinforcements should you stay. It was my last effort to try and save the city and move on to a fictional path when Wang Yu and Lu Bu win.

Except the city didn't need to fall. That was entirely up to you deciding that Fan Chou would be completely rejected instead of a host of other options given. All of which would have been more reasonable.
>>
>>32774086
You also need to not have the NPCs be clinically retarded just because they're not the PC. Seriously, it'll make it difficult to trust anything your NPCs say in the future, simply because you've said:
>Unfortunately, Fan Chou is just an NPC
>>
>>32774117

Well, if they're not happy, i think most people will deal with it, i think theres only one or two people screaming about railroads and how they're never ever coming back.

I mean, i'm slightly disappointed, but at the end of the day this is just a bump in the road.

This is also my first quest, how common is it to hit / almost hit 1k posts btw? Seems like a lot.
