Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you reached the Conclave, got shot at for fun, and met with a double amputee.

The hallway is as you left it, carved from black marbled and inlaid with gold. The elevator platform is missing, in its place an empty glass tube with the bottomless abyss below and a simple metal ceiling a few stories above. You've got your face pressed to the glass when you hear something ding behind you, glancing over your shoulder you see Fulvia has pressed a button and the 'down' arrow has lit up as a result. You'll need to take the time to figure this thing out at some point.

Profectus is the first to speak. “So, where are we going? I vote we check out that pub No-Legs mentioned. Real food sounds damned fantastic right about now.” Chrys shakes her head. “Before we do anything else we should investigate the Bazaar and exchange some gold for the local currency. I would point out that, despite several mentions that gold value is determined by weight and purity, we still do not know what units of measure are being used or how much one of our coins weighs.”

Skull Kid butts in here. “Gold is typically sold by the dag, one dag is equivalent to ten grams.” He shrugs. “No idea what your coins weigh, but you ought to get a pretty good price for it if you have enough of them. They're probably at least a few grams each.” Fulvia speaks up once it seems Kid has finished. “I do not believe that exchanging our native coin for the local currency would be wise. We will not be staying here for any longer than we have to and the local currency is worthless back home.” Profectus sighs. “Well, look. I'm not sleeping in the street tonight so we need to exchange at least some gold for ay-woo.”

>Head to the bazaar to seek out someone to buy your gold.
>Look around for work of some sort. If you scrape up some dough you won't need to sell your actual money.
>Skull Kid's a native. Ask if he'll spot you some cash until you can pay him back. You're totally good for it.
>Screw all of that, you'll sleep outside. Not like it would be the first time.

Maybe have Fulvia make jewelry to sell at higher prices.
>>
>>32757986
Sounds cool, maybe Mik can be a faggot and make a bunch of ice sculptures and charge people for looking at them
>>
>>32757986

Let's do this if practicable
>>
>>32757898
Assuming grams are the same in this world as in ours, gold is only 31.69% as valuable as it is in ours.
>>
>>32758078
You're also assuming AWU are the same as dollars. For all we know, AWU are like Yen, in that five thousand yen buys you a soda from the drink machine.
>>
So it looks like
>Ask if Fulvia could make Jewelry.
Is popular. Writin'
>>
>>32758159
We could buy some cheap stuff, gold plate it and resell it for a bunch of money.

What? With gold? We have no money.
>>
>>32758261
No after she makes some cheap but good looking jewelry
>>
>>32758254
I'd rather not resort to scamming.
>>
As the platform finally arrive at your floor an idea strikes you. “Fulvia, do you think you could make jewelry of some sort? Like, melt down a few of our coins to make into a bracelet. We ought to be able to sell that above the price in weight.” Fulvia cocks her head to the side. After a few moments of contemplation, she nods. “Yes, I could. However, mint grade gold is ill-suited for jewelry due to its softness. I would only be able to make necklaces or perhaps ear rings. It would be more cost effective to introduce impurities to the metal or I could simply gold plate a sturdier material.”

Well, you have an entire crate full of partially rusted iron weapons. You could probably have her melt those down or Darzi, Profectus, and yourself could work together to melt it while Fulvia focuses on the gold. You also have plenty of silver, but if you recall correctly silver isn't much better in terms of hardness than gold. You'd have the same problem as if you simply made it out of pure gold. Of course, on the other hand. What do you care if the jewelry breaks? You're not doing this for a living, just for some quick cash.

Skull Kid speaks up after pressing a button simply labeled 'G' on the elevator's control panel. “I don't know how well that would work out. Most jewelers will typically buy jewelry by weight only then smelt it down to a lower grade metal so they'll have more of it to work with. Then they'll recast it into one of a set of molds. It's all very standardized and, to be honest, rather dull if you ask me. You'll probably have to set up a stall in the bazaar and sell the jewelry off yourself if you want to get much over the price in weight.”

>>
This seems like it might turn into a much more involved task than you'd really anticipated, though it is early. You have an entire day ahead of you.

>On second thought, you'll just sell off the coins.

You'll be selling it to people, rather than other jewelers. But yeah, anyone who did any sort of testing would probably figure it out pretty quickly.
>>

>On second thought, you'll just sell off the coins.

Just a handful though.

Also, we should see how much purchasing power ay-woo has. Like ask how much a night at an inn costs, how much for a meal, ect. so we can gauge how much of out gold to sell.

“On second thought, this is starting to sound like we'll need to spend time and effort hawking this stuff to passers-by in the bazaar. I mean, we have things to do. I don't intend to stay here any longer than I absolutely have to.” Fulvia nods. Profectus sighs in relief. “Thank the gods, I just want to check out some of the 'entertainment' and then find someone to get us into the city.” Skull Kid ask with a teasing tone. “What, so you can check out the 'entertainment' there too? Do you think of anything other than getting your rocks off?” Profectus nods firmly. “I am constantly devising new ways to lose money through ill-advised schemes to get rich.”

The elevator stops on the ground floor and you all filter out. You recall that guard mentioning the Bazaar was in the other tower, so you start to head towards the exit. “So, Skull Kid. How much is an ay-woo worth? Like, how much does a meal cost? A stay at an inn?” Skull kid shrugs his shoulders. “I don't know, man. I don't really visit the Conclave enough to keep track of that sort of thing. Last I remember a stay in a cheap motel cost about fifty ay-woo for one night in one room. Gets more expensive the nicer you go. Hotels are usually a hundred or so per night per room.” You glance at your party, six in all counting Skull Kid, though you don't really know if he intends to stay here. You could probably cram everyone into two rooms, one for the men and one for the women, but it wouldn't be pleasant.

The doors slide open in front of you as you approach, letting you out into the barren, wire-strewn wasteland that surrounds the two towers. While you're carefully picking your way across the open field towards the second tower Skull Kid expounds on the cost of items. “My shotgun cost five hundred ay-woo when I first bought it, but that was a while back. All the cools guns these days will rape you for a few thousand. A meal usually runs about ten ay-woo give or take, for just some slop you can shove down your throat and feel full.” That sounds remarkably unpleasant. Why is everything so expensive?

As the doors slide open you're assaulted by the sounds, smells, and sights of a large mass of people in an enclosed space. Sweat, food, an acrid scent you can't quite place, various spices you can't identify. The sounds of merchants hawking their wares melts together with the sounds of a hundred separate conversations into a cacophony of indistinct noise. Save Profectus and Skull Kid, your companions seem terribly overwhelmed. You're fairly used to these sorts of conditions.

If we can find one for a decent price, I would love to pick up a relatively simple automatic weapon like an AK, so when we get back home we can take it apart and learn how to manufacture more them. I think Fulvia would be quite happy to have mounted machine guns for her constructs when we help her restore the glorious Rhynian Empire.
>>
>>32759489
Create jewelry and sell for a shit ton.

We would want to buy upgrades while we're here. More is useless if it can't get you nice things. And I'd reckon being chys a gun and ourselves a huge upgrade gun would be worth the time.
>>
>>32759696
*money
And having enough of it we could buy a shit ton of bullets/gun powder. Given the unlimited amount of space we carry.

Buying ourselves a stronger more advanced gun. For 100 gp instead of spending 50 gp on making things. And buy stuff for everyone and replenish our food used and other materials.
>>
>>32759578

Well you did a damned nice job with that. I'll be stealing it for background flavour the next time I play an enchanter.
>>
>>32759805
>>32759696
Information on how to make that stuff would be more valuable.
>>
>>32759805

Gunpowder is quite simple to make, but there are some subtle tricks with it that may be very useful to (maybe) relearn.

Earth magic seems like it should be capable of making it at very fine qualities.

>Library or bookstore
I bet everything is digital. Probably censored too.
>>
>>32759885
Yes it is simple to make when you have plans. And know what your looking for. But when you start with nothing there's only so much you can do.
>>32759867
I agree. But having enough money to do both would be great. Which we will not be able to do with just selling raw gold for the price of scrap metal.
>>
>>32759924
I wonder if Metal+Fire=Electricity if so we'll have a lot of fun here.
>>
>>32759924

Possibly - but we won't know until we try. And then it's a matter of figuring out how to interface Fulvia with their systems and/or finding a way around the censorship.
>>
>>32759908
So i would like to propose something.

We find the way into the underground city. Recovery some artifacts to sell since we can stuff a bunch of them in our cloak. Then after we find the tower and clear it so we have our way home later we go back to the onclave and sell our loot. then we can get guns, ammo, knowledge ect..

We dont have to worry about fulvia going insade right now do to the lack of vys so we have some time. And reason for selling there artifacts is because i feel ripped off with the prices of things at the moment since our golds worth more in the other world to us.
>>
>>32759885
If we are going to use any gun that we don't manually cycle, we will need to learn how to make smokeless powder for it to function properly.
>>
>>32759967

Metal may be able to make electricity on its own anyway. Even if it can't magnetise metals directly, there are ways around that.
>>
>>32760013

Science exists.

Magic can spin a magnet.

The conversion of magical energy into electrical is therefore possible.

In fact, you can get some crazy energy densities out of the simple magic we've seen performed.

Things like lifting boulders, melting metal, spinning flywheels and so forth.

It may not be lightning bolts and such - but powering electronic devices is simple.

>>32760418

Sure. That's not even the point.

Magic can be transformed into kinetic energy.

This is known - it can throw boulders.

Kinetic energy can be transformed into electrical energy.

Sorry - should be "possible"

There's way more to it than just making sparks.
>>
>>32760418

If it can alter the shape of metal, it may be possible for it - MAY - to create magnets by precise alignment of the metal.

In practice that kind of precision may be beyond even Fulvia.

You send a message through the brooches to Darzi and Chryssa. While Fulvia looks mildly concerned, Darzi looks just terribly uncomfortable and Chrys looks about ready to bolt judging by her body language. {Just follow me, don't make eye contact, don't wander off.} Darzi responds first. {I'll be fine, I've just always hated the markets. They're always so filthy.} Chryssa doesn't seem to be taking it as well. {How can you be so calm?! Any one of these people could sneak up behind us and stab us in the back!} You'd forgotten how bad she is with crowds. {Relax, Chrys. Deep breaths. Nobody is going to stab us if we don't make asses of ourselves.} She shoots back quickly with. {I have no confidence that we are able to avoid being assholes!} You sigh, setting off into the market and trying to pick out anyone hawking jewelry. {Just, trust me on this one Chrys.}

She doesn't respond, but at least she's following you. You have to jerk Profectus' arm every few feet to keep him from wandering off to gawk at something or other. Honestly, you feel like you're babysitting a bunch of teenagers seeing the market for the first time. At least Skull Kid seems on point. He helps you herd your little gaggle of misfits through the market.

>>
>>32760527
Well that probably won't be possible unless we get a lightning gun or something.
>>
After wandering seemingly at random for several minutes a massive glowing red sign catches your eye. 'We Buy Gold'. Below that is smaller, green sign which reads 'Greedy Bastard Pawn Shop'. You point begin to fight through the morning crowd to make your way over the shop's front door. A small white sign made of a material you don't recognize reads 'Push'. You do just that, and the door swings open with a harsh, artificial buzzing noise. Stepping into the side you're struck by how cramped everything is. There are seemingly a million things all crammed into a space no larger than a closet. Not to mention the place seems to be markedly more rustic than the rest of this place, the floors are wooden and the walls have some sort of weird paper coating over the metal.

Sitting behind a small desk on a stool is a remarkably human young man devoid of any visible prosthetics or 'mods' as Skull Kid called them. He looks inordinately displeased to see you. “Looks like the freak show rolled into town. What can I get you augfreaks?”

You're about to simply say you're here to sell gold when Skull Kid interrupts you. “Fuck you, kid! You sit in here behind your walls and you don't have to worry about shit sneaking up on you and-” You cut him off. “Relax, S.K! No need to go jumping down his throat over a little jab about appearance.” All humans look like weird, short, pale, blunt-eared elves anyway.

You turn your attention back to the kid. “I'm just looking to sell some gold. I'm in a bit of a tight spot.” The kid pushes himself up and slaps the desk. “Bring it here, but I'm not giving you any extra dough for your mom's earrings just because they have sentimental value. I buy by weight in dag only.” You wave him off as you approach the desk. “I've been informed.”

As you approach the desk the kid ducks underneath for a moment and reemerges with some sort of strange device. It looks like a metal platform suspended on a pole and attached to a oddly shaped box. All manner of buttons and dials adorn the box's surface, their purpose escaping you, but the kid operates them deftly. In the short time it takes you to reach the desk he seems to have set up... whatever it is. You assume some sort of strange scale. He speaks up in a cheery tone. “So what are you selling? Bars or jewelry?” You reach into your cloak, pulling it out in front of you so it isn't obvious you're hand is passing through the fabric.

You draw out a single gold coin, passing it across the desk to the young man. “Coins, actually. Weigh this for me.” He picks it up, squinting at it against the artificial light for a moment before slapping it down on the scale. A number is projected into the air, '2.5G' depicted in three dimensions of flickering blue light. It isn't as well done as the projection Fulvia uses to appear human, but it's enough to get the message across. The kid stares at it for a moment before glancing up at you. “Alright, this it? Twenty ay-woo.”

Darzi a minigun

Guns are awesome but our real opportunity here is to acquire knowledge. Think what we could do back home with a few textbooks on engineering or pretty much any science.
>>
>>32761717
nah, making bullets would take time, plus we can't enchant them.
Also we are the only ones that shows interest, i have no clue what the others want.
>>
>>32761741
It's on the to-do list.
>>
>>32761741
>on engineering or pretty much any science.
Nah, i do agree about knowledge, but it has to be practical for us.plus engineering books is a pretty broad term, plus their science can be radically different thanks to it being a different world/dimension
>>
>>32761741
We could make the world a better place, but that would get in the way of ADVENTURE!

Guns on the other hand can only enhance our adventure experience.

>>32761751
For every gun we buy we would obviously also buy enough ammo to keep going for a while. Also there's nothing stopping us from asking how they make their gunpowder. The rest is easy with magic.
>>
>>32761778
>their science can be radically different thanks to it being a different world/dimension
If that were the case then there would no point in getting guns.
>>
>>32761778

That depends - it gets really strange when you start talking about variations in physical laws between realities.
>>
>>32761792
>asking how they make their gunpowder
Like i said i can see it being a hassle since i doubt many people can answer this, plus i don't want waste all of our money on guns, plus we need to make sure we are competent with them first.
>>
>>32761822
How does that go in line thier science?
>>32761835
True, here is hoping they our place have the same or similar materials as they do.
>>
>>32761792
>asking how they make their gunpowder

We may easily find this in a book. Finding a library should be high on our list right now. Or buying whatever the archeota equivalent is in this world if everything was digitalized.
>>
>>32761845
Like the owner of the gun shop wouldn't know or at least direct you to someone that would. Or he would just name his supplier, etc.
Also this is an isolated community, whoever makes the gunpowder can't be far.

The money is a problem though, yes. A good gun is apparently several thousand AWU, and we still need ammo. Gold isn't the way to go, maybe something else we own is worth a lot to them.

And using guns isn't that hard. Especially considering back in our world we aren't going up against other gun users but people with swords and bows. People sized targets at that distance aren't hard to hit.
>>
>>32761927
true, also this makes me wonder if soma is gonna use the loudness of guns in the quest.

THE SILENCE IS DEAFENING
>>
You stare at him for a moment, an idea slowly formulating in your head. This kid tries desperately to act uncaring but you'd bet money that, should he every actually feel he is in danger, he'd wilt like a flower in the Pidjatan sun. You use just a touch of channeled vys to give your voice more weight and authority. “Allow me to ask you this question: Do I look like a bitch?” The kid seems caught off guard. “What?”

You slam your hand against the desktop hard enough that the scale rattles, raising your voice. “Do I look like a bitch?!” He raises his hands in mock surrender. “Fuck's sake man, calm down. No, you don't look like a bitch.” You grin. “Then why do you try to fuck me like a bitch? Twenty? You and I both know that anything under thirty-three is theft, plain and simple. I do not take kindly to some petty store clerk trying to rob me of my hard earned wealth.”

You hear a sound reminiscent of a tree branch breaking behind you and glance over your shoulder to see Skull Kid hefting his shotgun in an obviously threatening manner. Chryssa has drawn a dagger from one of her sleeves. Profectus seems oblivious, absorbed in playing with a stuffed facsimile of a bear while Fulvia has taken a seat in a reclining chair to continue decoding that research data and Darzi is too busy carrying your massive dragon egg to participate in intimidating this poor store owner.

You turn your attention back to the young man behind the register. He seems cowed, at least. “Fine! Fine, I'll offer market price. 131 ay-woo per dag.” You reach into your cloak and pull out a fairly large bag of coins, spilling them out onto the counter before tossing the bag back into your cloak. He looks at the massive stack of gold coins before starting to count them out and weigh them in groups of four.

You end up selling sixteen dag worth of gold coins, which comes out to a total of sixty four coins for two thousand ninety six AWU. Once all the gold is counted and weighed, the cashier looks at you annoyed. “Alright, freak. What's your chit address?” You glance over your shoulder at Skull Kid, who walks up to a box on a near-by shelf and pulls out a smooth black card about the size of your hand. As best you can tell it's made of metal and has a glass screen on the front. He presses a button and a small geometric logo appears on the screen, white against a black background. He hands it to you. “Enter in a name and a password, you'll get an address for him to transfer money too.”

You take it and glance down at the screen. A small board of keys has appeared at the bottom of the screen and the 'name' field is highlighted. While you're wondering just how to go about pressing the keys when they're just projections on a screen Skull Kid speaks up again. “Just use your finger to press the keys, it'll work. Trust me.”

Suggest your ideas!
>Username:
>Password:

Once you've filled out both fields and pressed enter, a seemingly random string of numbers and letters pops up followed by a strange symbol you don't recognize and the letters SAM. You show it to the kid and he nods, tapping away at a board of keys attached to what you though was the register. It isn't long before your 'chit' dings and a readout displays.
>2096AWU Received!

You slip the chit into your cloak, taking a look around the shop. Skull Kid slings his shotgun over his shoulder and Chryssa puts her dagger away. You decide to take a look around the shop. Darzi ask in Samjani. “Was intimidating him really necessary? You probably could've just asked for a higher price.” You wave her off. “It might not have been entirely necessary but it was fun.”

She sighs, but you're already moving off into the shop to explore a bit. There are various gadgets and junk on the walls and strewn about the store. In addition to boxes upon boxes of what, as best you can tell, are balls made of some sort of pliant material there is a massive crate of stuffed animal figures on the floor that Profectus just seems absolutely taken with. There are various models of chair, couch, lamp, and all sorts of other things. You're drawn to the locked glass cabinet populated by various guns and blades.

You're displeased to see that most of the items in the case are labeled with prices far, far, far higher than you'd be willing to spend. Which is a shame, because you find yourself wanting to try out every one just to see what they do. One pistol in particular does stand out as something you might be able to afford. It's only three hundred ay-woo and you could probably negotiate that down. There is a thick paper box on the bottom of the glass cabinet below the pistol which contains oblong metal cylinders with pointed tips. The tag on the box reads '40R .45:80AWU'. You're not entirely sure what that means but it sounds like a rip off.

As you lean in to inspect one in particular, a label below it reading 'Gadget-Bot' it springs to life and levitates itself into the air, zipping around you briefly before settling on bobbing gently a couple inches in front of our face. You find yourself backing away slowly as it begins to 'speak', though it has no mouth. “Hello! I am Gadget-Bot Prototype Series 1! I am fully equipped with a wide range of tools suitable to perform any and all task which might be assigned to me!” It proceeds to rattle off a long sentence too quickly for you to really understand before resuming its normal speaking tone. “What task would you like Gadget-Bot to perform?”

Before you can answer the kid behind the counter shouts out. “Power: Off!” The little hovering drone goes dead and slams into the floor, rolling a few inches before coming to a stop. The cashier goes on to explain. “It's a little malfunctional, comes on at random intervals. Think it's because its software is so far out of date. I'd be willing to part with it for five hundred AWU.” You don't really have any idea if that's a good price or not, but you pick the little bot up and set it back on its stand regardless before moving on.

The last item to catch your attention is an armored suit on a metal stand. You're not really sure what to make of it, to be honest, but it looks quite advanced. A small label attached to the sleeve reads 'Delta Model Hardsuit'. While you stand there puzzling over what on Earth this thing is supposed to do Skull Kid comes up to stand next to you, folding his arms in front of his chest. “Ah, my friend!” You proclaim enthusiastically. “Would you be so kind as to explain what the fuck this is?”

He nods his head. “Sure thing, Mik. This is a hardsuit, they're the standard protection a wastelander needs to wander about without getting auged to hell and back, which is the path I took. This helmet-” He gestures to the strange 'head' of the suit. “-is completely sealed against outside air entering. The air filter is on the back and will store extracted oxygen into tanks stored around the suit. The little lens there in the center of the helmet feeds images into the helmet so the wearer can see.” He taps a metal plate on the torso. “These plates are a type of reinforced organic fiber designed to withstand small caliber gunfire. Not the strongest out there but pretty damn good.” He motions to the strange indents on the shoulders. “Speakers to broadcast what you say at a volume you determine.”

He shrugs his shoulders. “Probably has a concealed holster somewhere, plenty of pockets of course. I think this particular model also enhanced physical capabilities and allowed you to zoom in to look at distant objects. Solar powered, of course, so you never need to recharge.” Huh, sounds... interesting. You're not sure if it's worth the fifteen hundred AWU price tag though.

I don't think so
>>

I'm more about leaving it for last, get it before we leave this world if possible. I'd rather found less expensive and arguably more usefull stuff.
>>
>>32764623
Sure but back home the highest threats are magical in origin, our armor does that too, we have the dragon staff. I guess it can make us physically stronger but CQC isn't an issue with elemental channeling, especially earth for disintegrate and fire for the flamethrower.

It's a poor upgrade at best compared to loads of utility skills.

only thing our suit can't do.
Out suit can repair it's self with a giant hole in it's center.
And if you want to make assumptions like it will make us way stronger.

What happens when it runs out of juice while fighting something like the crab claw thing?

Also, to clarify. Your armor would not stop a pistol round unless you fortified it with Metal magic. Darzi's armor is the only armor capable of stopping a bullet, and it would probably be safe against rifle rounds. Artillery wouldn't penetrate but the concussive force would injure her.

We could likely do it now. It would just cost us like 5 vys to protect us. and We would have to know it's coming.
The higher we go we could likely do it much cheaper. and Possibly have it passively to stop the bullet from penetrating skin.

And another trip goes into the filter.
>>
With Skull Kid in tow you wander over to the rack of big metal balls. You lean in to take a closer look at 'Gadget-Bot'. It's slightly larger than your head and ovoid rather than perfectly round. You don't really see anything that you'd describe as a 'tool' attached to it. No wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, or anything of the sort. “Any idea what this thing is? It's supposed to be able to perform 'any task I assign' but I don't see how that's possible.”

Skull Kid flips his helmet down and stars off into space for a few moments without speaking. You're starting to feel distinctly uncomfortable when he finally responds. “According to its specs this is a prototype of the actual Gadget-Bot. It's feature complete, actually able to do more than the model on store shelves, but tends to be a bit buggy. It has a welder, a buzz saw, lockpicks, a screwdriver, a fire extinguisher, an auto-injector, manipulator appendages, and intellect equivalent to that of a small child.”

You're not entirely sure what all those tools do, but the bit that caught your interest is the bot's intelligence. “So, wait. It's an AI?” Skull Kid nods. “Yeah, I mean. A basic AI. Lots of bots are intelligent. Hell, that chit I gave you has some limited amount of intelligence to protect from intrusions. My implants are somewhat intelligent. Streetlights, cars, doors.” He shrugs his shoulders. “You name it somebody has crammed an AI into it.” You can't help but find that sort of horrifying. Mainly because the concept of an intelligent being slaved to only be able to open and close a door is repulsively wasteful.
(1/2 or 3)
>>
>>32765948
ok, as long as we can pass the time
>>
You move on to the gun rack, gesturing to the pistol and its corresponding ammunition. “Tell me a bit about this. I have a pistol but it looks almost nothing like this.” He glances at you oddly. “You have a pistol?” You nod, he waves it off. “I'll trust you. This is just a basic semi-automatic forty-five caliber pistol. Ten round magazine, long slide, steel frame with a rubber grip. I mean, it's a pistol. What are you asking me?” You have exactly zero idea what any of that meant. “What's a caliber, semi-automatic, a magazine, a long slide, or 'rubber'?”

He sighs, starting to go down the list. “Caliber is a measure of the bullet fired. It is determined by the distance between opposing grooves in the barrel of the gun. A forty-five caliber pistol means that there are point four-five inches between opposing grooves. Semi-automatic means that every time you squeeze the trigger and a bullet is fired the recoil chambers a new round. Thus, you only need to squeeze the trigger again to fire. A magazine is a container for bullets with a feed mechanism. A long slide is a slide that is longer than average, intended to increase accuracy. A slide is the top portion of the pistol that you slide back to chamber a round. Rubber is a type of synthesized material popular because it doesn't break down and it's sturdy. I think it's made from oil byproducts or something.”

You stare at him uncomprehendingly for a few moments before a grin splits your face. “Does it do the shooty-thing with the bullets good?” He grumbles something you can't quite hear before responding. “Yeah, it shoots bullets well. I've heard this particular model is fairly reliable, doesn't jam often. If you were looking to buy a pistol, this is a good starting point.”
(2/3)
>>
You sigh, and turn towards the cashier. He's reading through a small book composed of inordinately shiny paper filled with pictures of people dressed in strange outfits. “Would you take four hundred ay-woo for the Gadget-Bot?” Without even looking up he responds. “Sure.” That was... easy. You're a little disappointed in fact. “What about three hundred?” He shakes his head. “Nope.” These one word answers are starting to tick you off. “Why not?” He shrugs his shoulders. “Because you offered four-hundred first. Should've low balled me harder.” So he doesn't even care? It's just because you offered four hundred first? “What about three hundred fifty? You obviously couldn't care less.” He shakes his head. “Not happening. Four hundred, take it or leave it.”

“I'll give you a hundred for this pistol.” The cashier gets up and walks around to stand next to you, you point out the pistol that you were interested in. “Oh, that pistol? Yeah, it's four hundred now. Since you're over here trying to fuck me like a bitch.” The smile on his face is infuriatingly cocky but you ignore it, channeling vys towards improving your confidence, making yourself more charismatic.

“Look, don't go hiking up the price over a low-ball offer after you told me to low-ball you harder not ten seconds ago. I'm just following your advice.” He shakes his head. “Look, the bot I couldn't give less of a shit about. It's buggy as all hell and I'm half convinced that the AI's safety measures are rapidly deteriorating. Thing is long overdue to go mad and start killing people. This pistol though? This is a good gun. Won't break, won't jam, high capacity magazine. Not to mention I'd be selling it to a man who, not moments ago, had his aug'd out thugs threaten me to get a better price on some bulk gold coins he got from an indeterminate source. Now you're trying to buy a gun off me. You're a shady motherfucker.”

You sigh. “Look, I'm not from here.” He cuts you off. “Yeah, I gathered that much.” You take a deep breath to calm yourself. “I'm just looking for a little protection. The only thing I have on me right now is a knife.” That's not entirely true. You have magic, a sword, a pistol, and a spear as well. In fact, you're pretty loaded for bear by all accounts, but he doesn't need to know that. “In a few days I'm going to leave the Conclave and set off for the City, that's a long journey no matter how you measure it. I'm just looking for a little protection.” You do your best to sound sincere and manage it beautifully. You can tell his conviction is wavering.

I'll need to go digging around the back for the spare magazine but I ought to have one.

yes but that doesn't change the fact that we got one for 250. with a spare mag and 2 cases of bullets.

We could use more bullets though. buying 5 cases so we could use guns and practice on enchanting bullets. Should be easy as it's a small item. so it should charge up for a couple of days. and we can use em.

or practice and turn our -2 hit into a +x with enough practice

We haven't even been to a gun shop.
Imagine all the cool shit the store could have.
We're buying 2nd hand pawned off gun.
When we get to a gun store, we will have the newer items. * that are going to be much more expensive* but that's nice. We may end up giving the .45 to some one else if we find something to better suit our needs.
>>
>>32767788
We are a mage first and foremost. I think a pistol suites us fine for when we want to assist from the back row with out using vys or just end a fight with a humanoid quickly.

Also if we have a few of our guys using firearms, we really need to formulate some small unit tactics to minimize the chance of a front line fighter getting shot in the back accidentally.
>>
>>32767889
hence practicing to shooting.
anyway.

“I'll take the bot and the pistol.” He nods. “I'm sure you can handle the bot yourself. I'll go get the spare mag and the ammo from the back.” Before he leaves he unlocks the gun cabinet and pulls out the pistol, handing it to you grip first before closing and locking the cabinet once more. Then he vanishes into the back of the shop, while you take the opportunity to shove the pistol into your cloak.

You wander over to the Gadget-Bot and pick it up, trying to figure out a way to turn it on. Before you make much progress it zips out of your hands and spins around in the air until the lens that serves as its eye faces you. “Hello Citizen!” Before you can say anything you feel Skull Kid tapping you on the shoulder. “Say 'register new user'. Trust me.”

You glance from him to the bot, confused for a moment, before doing as instructed. “Register new user.” A bright blue light shines out of the bot's lens, running up and down your face several times before something inside the bot dings loudly. “Registration awaiting store manager verification!” You scrunch your brow, but figure it's necessary to avoid theft. Otherwise anyone could just walk in and try to register a bot and run off. Then again you didn't see much stopping anyone from just walking out of this store with an item tucked under their arm.

The cashier returns from the back with your ammunition and the magazines. He hands both to you and you stuff it all into the cloak. He seems a little taken aback. “Hot damn man, how many pockets you got in that thing?” You shrug your shoulders. “Just one big one.” He looks at you confused for a moment before apparently deciding it's not important. “You can just slide your chit in front of the register to pay.” You approach the register, staring at it for a moment while trying to puzzle out where you're supposed to slide your 'chit'. He points to a black screen at the front, so you slide the little black rectangle across there.
>New Balance: 1446 AWU

After that notification it goes dark once more, and you shove it into your cloak. How odd. The loudly declares. “Registration: Approved” and the bot hovering just above and behind your head chimes loudly. “Registration: Success! Please state name now.” You glance at Skull Kid and he just motions towards the bot, so you decide to come out with it. “Mkhael Abdul-Hakim.” The bot chimes. “Registration complete, entering stand-by.” The bot sinks a few inches in the air and moves to hover behind you. No matter how you turn to try and see it, it always seems to remain out of sight. You can't even hear it hovering behind you, though Chrys seems terribly amused by it. Even though she's wearing a mask, you can tell she's trying to suppress laughter. In the end you decide to ignore it and march out of the store.

As you step out of the store a you're faced with two options. Left, and right. To your left, the quality of the buildings noticeably deteriorates. You can spot a few bums sleeping in the streets and you're fairly sure the woman standing on the corner is a prostitute. The number of merchants hawking wares decreases dramatically, giving way instead to a few loan men standing around in overly large jackets, accosting passers-by. To the right, you could likely find anything and everything you might desire, items beyond your wildest dreams.

You go left.

You stick to the dead middle of the road, avoiding eye contact but looking for anything that catches your interest. Several times you're approached by auged out men and women offering a wide array of strange clear sacks filled with strange powders you don't recognize or vials of liquid you can't identify. Skull Kid always steps in and pulls you away before you can try to make any sort of purchase. “Shit's as likely to kill you as it is to work. Trust me.” He'd say each time as you delved further and further into the slums.

You hear a voice call out from behind you. It shouts some incomprehensible gibberish that sounds like a question but you just keep walking. All the stores here are closed for some reason, it seems to just be housing complexes on the border of collapse. As you turn a corner you hear the voice again, this time closer. “Mate I asked you a fucking question! You turn your pretty little pointy-eared ass right around before help my own god damned self!” Skull Kid shakes his head. “Ignore him, scummers always hang around here and screw with foreigners. Why are we even down here?” You shrug your shoulders, turning around to face this 'scummer'. “Looked interesting. What could possibly go wrong?”

The man accosting you is tall for a human, not as tall as you are of course but tall none the less. He's augmented to hell in back, to the point you have trouble just picking out what's flesh and what's metal. “What did you ask me, stranger? I couldn't understand that bullshit you spewed.” He runs his hands through his hair, which seems to somehow stand straight up by itself. He's dressed in some sort of combat armor, a heavy plate covering his torso and his legs. “Oooh! We got a tough guy over here! I asked you what you're doing in Rolling Five territory?”

“Who's asking?” He scowls. “Who's fucking asking? Fucker are you for real?” You hear Chryssa mumble. “I do not see a reason for such rampant profanity. This seems like overkill.” You ignore Chrys to retort. “No, I'm not real. You're hallucinating.” He shakes his head. “Wouldn't fucking surprise me, I'm cunted-” You've never heard the word 'cunt' turned into a verb. From context you assume it means he's intoxicated. “-to hell and back.” He reaches behind his back, and you note that Skull Kid unslings his shotgun from his shoulder. “They call me fucking Lucky. I've been shot, stabbed, and blown the fuck up but there isn't nothing that can keep me down.” There isn't nothing? So there is something? “There isn't a soul in this town who hasn't heard of Lucky, ask anyone. From Stumpy down to the lowest filth in the dark districts. Everyone knows how Lucky from the Rolling Five is. Hell, even in the City they know who I am.”

“Listen mate, I'll cut you some slack since you aren't from these parts. There is a toll in this part of the city. We keep the streets clear of muggers and thieves that aren't part of the gang and you pay up in exchange for services rendered. Got that?” You shake your head. “No, I don't got that. You are as intimidating to me as a wet blanket or an errant leaf. I face men and beast deadlier than you on a daily basis. If you have anything of value to say, say it.” He pulls out a strange looking gun. It has a magazine in front of the trigger that seems inordinately wide and all manner of attachments strapped haphazardly onto it. The stock seems to be attached by some manner of bandage. You've very little idea what this thing shoots, but a bright red dot seems to indicate where it's pointing. Right now it's pointed at the ground.

“Look, mate. We don't have to make this bloody.” He speaks with an odd rasping tone, like his throat has been damaged in some way. It's strangely unsettling. “Just pay up, I'll let you on the way.”

You hear Profectus mumble. “Man, is this guy serious? What is he going to do? There's six of us.” Fulvia nods in agreement. “I concur. He seems arrogant.” Chryssa simply shakes her head. “If he was going to shoot us he would've done it. If he intended to rob us a corpse is easier to fight. He may just be looking for entertainment.” Profectus grins. “Why bother us when there are perfectly good prostitutes right there on the corner?” Skull Kid shrugs. “Less likely to get diseases from us.” Fulvia is the last of the peanut gallery to speak up. “Untrue, actually. Since we are from another dimension diseases which lie dormant in us or otherwise are easily cured may be lethal to you, since you lack built up immunity.”

An idea strikes you. “Wait a second, you've been to the City?” He looks at you confused for a few moments before nodding. “Yeah I go there every so often. Pick up some better hardware, slum around a bit. You know how it is.” You don't really. That's beside the point. “I'd be willing to pay your little toll in exchange for information on how to get into the city.” He scrunches up his face. “Well that's not really a toll then, is it? More like a simple business exchange, information for money.” You sigh. “Look, the alternative is that I paralyze you, rob you, and shove you into an extradimensional space to be eaten alive by a being from the void.”

He holds up a finger. “Now wait just a minute here, fucker! I was going to paralyze you, rob you, and dump you in the sewers too!” Oddly he sounds rather pleased by this development. It's disconcerting. “What a fucking coincidence, eh? Listen, I'd be willing to discuss a business proposal but this is a little public to be discussing business, isn't it? Lets go someplace a little more private, I got just the spot in mind.”

>Sure! What could possibly go wrong?
