http://pastebin.com/H1X53jSF Character Sheet: Annelin

https://twitter.com/AnnelinKarkinos (Twitter for following)

Your name is Annelin Karkinos, and everything is coming together. You and your charge, Micheal Hile, move with his grandfather, a priest of Law, to Central. It's a much longer trip now, without a carriage, but the grandfather seems somewhat unconcerned.

"At this rate, we will arrive roughly when the duel is scheduled." he says, "Or just before. The timing is important."

You both agree. Most important is Law believing the duel is going according to plan. While it seems he is aware you plan something, he doesn't seem aware what. So far.

By the time you return to the city, it's nearly night, and you're all huffing and puffing from the hurry. Ja'al waits at the entrance, a blackened paintbrush in his hand. He looks a bit surprised to see you.

>Ja'al? What are you doing?
>Ja'al, hurry to the castle! Tell the king we're back.

You look through Lies, and Ja'al is, indeed, Ja'al.
"Ja'al, what are you doing?"

"Ah... You just now arrived, right." he says, leading you and everyone else inside. "I've just finished the Great Circle." he grins. "It turns out that the various energies contained in the blood of the races of the Central continent, as well as some from others, allows for a very powerful binding circle. Add to that the size and scope of it, and the shape of the city over the years due to your mother's civic planning, Mike, and..." he chuckled. "The city is now a single, large, binding circle for a demon of great strength." he says. "All we need to do is summon it."

"The order of events is important." Micheal's grandfather states. "The Duel, Law, and the Lord of Lords... Must all be defeated in a specific way. Wandering from that, invades disaster."

>What do you suggest?
>Let's settle the Duel first.
>Let's settle with Law first.
>Let's deal with the Lord first.

"What do you suggest?"

"Ideally, we should work with the Duel first."

"...Apologies, but... What exactly are the rules here?"

"Simple, simple." he says, "First blood. Always been that way."

"...First blood." Micheal says. "With that sword."

The old man grins.
"You think he will use his greatsword."

"...Naturally."

"Ah... well."

You enter the main square, the great spire of Law standing in the center. The King is here, in full dress, with a simple longsword and shield in his hands. "One should not assume anything."

King Hile looks upon the two of you, rattling out a sigh.
"They want us to wait until morning, the bastards." he says, looking at the white and gold robed priests. "Something about a divine mandate."

"Of course."

"And special bindings to prevent demonic intrusion, right, Ja'al?"

"Naturally."

"We go now. For the safety of the Bloodline."

"But Law-"

Micheal's grandfather sighs.
"Shall we ask him directly?"

"Karl." you whisper. He nods.

"Very well." the old man states. "I invoke my Right to Audience!" A gasp rises as a beam of light shakes the earth, Law appearing before the old man. Gold-white robes adorn his frail-looking body, a staff in one hand.

Before he can even open his mouth, the stone sword emerges from his chest, Karl grinning madly behind him.

"What." Law manages. "What are you thinking..." he touches at the sword. "You fools. You bastards!" he turns on Karl, his hands wilding away into black bone. "You have sealed your own fate as well as mine! Do you not think that the world would suffer a gap of power this larger? That the Creator would allow this? Of course not! He would... Have a contingency..." he sinks to his knees, a wild grin on his face. "Mere mortal, who championed me for so long." he looks past Karl, to Freth. "Thou shall take my mantle, and stand among the Gods." the grin widens as Freth's eyes tear up, and he laughs, a final, sardonic chuckle.

He stares at the sky. "And only the Gods. As it shall be for all of them."

Karl begins to glow, and Freth runs to him, stumbling. A pillar of light appears over the church of Raev, as well. "Go home, my daughter. And sit with us at the Table. Dine with the Father, and know him by his name. Arth-"

And he crumbles into dust - Karl beginning to float from his feet.

"K-karl..."

He looks at his hands as they blaze white, reaching for Freth as he starts to ascend. She reaches out for him, their hands inches apart, not even that. She jumps, and he's just out of reach, making her fall to the ground, staring at his ascending form - which simply blinks out.

She doesn't even cry. The absurdity of it is too great. Her eyes lose their shine, her shoulders slump as she rises, walking back into the chapel of Raev.

King Hile stares at Micheal's grandfather.
"Ah, well. Just punishment, for such a rogue." he says, "...Though is it proper to call him such, now? I wonder." he chuckles. "I'll ask him later. Now then. On with the duel, yes?"

At this point I simply want to finish the story. There's nothing I can really say to sway any of you away from this conclusion that this ending is somehow is not genuine, so there's no point in bothering.

The two of them face off, the duel attended by a small crowd. It wasn't publicly announced, but it is a public event. You keep your eyes on the area around the arena, watching for assassins. A full minute, and no attempts, and your eyes wander to the match.

It's... Even. The King has the upper hand, for now, keeping the Prince on the defensive against a steady attack. He's stronger than you expected, but the Prince is far faster. Not that it helps much, as the King's experience shows in his casual defense of the many blows and tricks the Prince employs.

You frown. This isn't good - his training has produced and excellent fighter. But it might not be enough...

And that's when you notice Ja'al signaling you.

You walk to the alley after checking him with the Eye.

"I want to start the summoning before the event concludes. Slay the Lord before either of them win, so that he has no chance to seize anything. Sound like a good idea?"

>Writein

>>32762134

No no no no.

We have to beat the Lord in such a way that no soulstone happens. If it does, the explosion will level the city.
>>
>>32762797
Wait what? What are you talking about?
>>
>>32762852
Back in the first half of the quest, we saw the effect of the formation of a soulstone. Also back in her origin story, in the Appal thing. When a soulstone is formed from a demon, there's an implosion effect. The most powerful demon ever will create the largest soulstone sucking effect ever. Goodbye Central.
>>
>>32762893
Well I guess we're fucked then.

After seeing what happened last time we made a decision, I don't really feel comfortable choosing anything, since the wrong choice will likely kill people.
>>
>>32762797
"...What about his soulstoning?"

Ja'al goes pale.
"Oh Law." he says quietly, hands clenching. We have to defeat him without killing him, then. Or..."

"Or what?"

"...Or destroy his soul, such that it never forms." he says.

/I can do that. The timing is... iffy./

"Or we move him to such a place that his death will be meaningless. Or we contain it, with a Vessel. No matter what, it'll carry some risk."

>Destroy the soul
>Move the event
>Contain the soul
>>
>>32762972
Okay. Here's what I propose.

We have the everything-eating arm, right? And the demon inside is enthralled to us, right?

So summon the demon...and then IMMEDIATELY punch the shit out of him with the Demon Hand. Scorch, burn, eat before he can go soulstone mode. Then the duel can conclude, one way or another.

I don't see what else to do. I feel like we're missing something. Maybe use that invisibility cloak Michael won in the cave against the demon from before to get close?
>>
>>32763008
>Destroy the soul

all or nothing, baby
>>
>>32763008
So what exactly do the latter two options entail?

Like we already have the circle made, so moving it to a different place doesn't seem like it'd work, and I don't know what a vessel is
>>
>>32763046
I really don't want to do anything risky, and being obvious has bitten us in the past, but it's probably the only good move to make
>>
>>32763046
>>32763235
>>32763015

"We'll have to do this the crazy way." you say. "We'll destroy the soul - either by feasting on it or torching it."

"...It should work. But it means you have to face him. Can you do that now?" he asks, "The location of the center of the circle isn't far from here."

>I'm ready.
>Let the match conclude.
>>
>I'm ready.

Maybe we can catch him off-guard if he's expecting Law to do something during the match and it doesn't happen.
>>
>>32763519

"Will we distract Micheal?"

"...Unlikely." he says. "And he's gaining the upper hand now. His father grows tired." he takes a deep breath. "I... may have slid things in his favour. A bit. Just to help." he says, then hurriedly leads you into a basement. It's large, quite large. A series of lines lead into the room, converging at a point. "I can complete the summon now."

You brace yourself, your spear and arm.

And the summoning begins.

You feel it, a deep tugging, and Ja'al flees. Presumably to watch the fight.

He's tall. Not exactly as you recall him - pale and blonde, with shining armor in white and gold. A red cloak, and a longsword at his side. His eyes sparkle with power, and a ring of fire hovers over his head.

"You don't understand the power you're dealing with," he says softly, staring at you. "Send me back."

His will is like a wall, pressing on you as he moves closer. "I remember you, Annelin." he says, "Did you know that? I recall you, small as you were. Long hair, short dress, bright eyes. Oh, you were perfect. A wonderful little tool. BOW."

The last word forces you to your knees as he stands over you. "You've grown. Solid. Strong. Some might even say you're beautiful, a fine match for my lineage." he grins. "But my lineage is corrupt now." he raises his hands, elbows at his side. "I must discipline my youth, after all, lest they run wild, with strange ideas. Humanity must prosper. I learned that when I was young. We had no land. No crops. No homes. We fought and murdered for every inch we owned and used. We defended it."

He kicks you in the ribs, slamming you against the stone pillar holding up the house. "And now, look at this city. A half-way land of monsters and men. And you still fight me! Despite that the nation is still under threat from them, culturally and economically, you welcome them with open arms! Law gave me an in. Told me I could PURIFY this once great nation! And so I took it. I thought I would be WELCOME, but that damn boy and that goddess bar me at every step. Until now, of course. Sit down."

You sit, groaning in pain. "Sit and watch while I go and bring the..." he tilts his head as there's a cheer. "The boy king here."

He leaves the room, shining and radiant.

And then the chains on your mind shatter, with the fury of your soul. No grunt, no movement. You let out a breath you didn't know you had.

The regular citizens. He's controlling the citizens! You move as quickly as you can, silver markings on your hands and face pulsing to life as you weave and duck, pushing through the crowds. You finally break through, and a disturbing scene arises. The Lord of Lords is seated on a throne of people, contorted to allow him a resting place. At least four...

And a grin on his face, as he looks upon the tableau he's created. King Hile is dead. The Prince stands with bloodied blade, point over his heart.

"I wonder..." his eyes flick to you. "Let us play a game, Annelin. Let's you and him fight."

You feel your legs jerk, but you stand resolute. The Prince does not, and the smile on the Lord of Lords grows.
"Ah... All the better. Due punishment for your insolence, then - slay the one you love, or die!" he laughs as the Prince approaches, eyes hollow and dead inside.

You call on yourself to find the thread of magic between Micheal and the Lord, but you can't - swinging your fist at nothing in a desperate manuever to sever the connection. Almost immediately, you have to raise your shield as he swings for your neck.

"It's funny." The Lord of Lord says, "How easily some minds fall. You were like an obdurate fortress, Annelin. Perhaps it's because I've controlled you before. But Micheal... Ah, he's like clay. Wonderful clay. I wonder how long it'll take for Karl to unweave what Law left behind. Well... We probably have enough time that it won't matter."

You stumble back from a blow, slipping on a stone and blinking as it takes you just out of reach of another blow. Again and again, you slip away from Micheal, half from chance, half not. "After all - one of you will die here. If it's you, Annelin, then I'll simply take the throne as is. If it's him, then I'll take the throne and you." he shrugs, crossing his legs.

There has to be a way.

::Is this how it works? I think I gave someone a migraine on the other side of town. Annelin, can you hear me?:: Karl asks.

"What the hell, Karl?! What's going on here?!"

::Okay look Sworn are apparently important and have to do with divine ascension but uh:: there's a pause, ::You are hereby permitted to destroy the soul of the Lord of Lords. So that's sorted out. And... Damnit... Raeve, can you...::

//Apologies. He's new. Listen, stop thinking with your spear. Start thinking with your heart. I know for a fact you care. Give Micheal some hope in there! He's a strong boy, you know he is! The Lord took away his family to control him.//

::Give him something to fight for!::

Did Karl agree to help us against Law's orders because he thought you'd knuckle under? Snap out of it!"
>>
>>32766001
"Michael THINK, think about your family, your mother, that this bastard had killed and turned into a Beast Demon, think about everything she dreamed of building, of everything you want to build.

Remember that time in the cave, the first time we kissed, remember damn it, remember all the times we've been together, fought together, held each other in our arms.

Think and remember Mike, you are stronger than this, don't let this senile old bastard control you, don't let him throw away everything between us, everything your mother planned and dreamed of.

Throw off his shackles and come back to me Mikey."

You throw aside your spear, moving forward as Micheal pushes forth with his sword.

And it shatters against your chest. He swings with the other hand, and it snaps in half against your breast.
You grin.
"Sorry, Lord of Lords. My heart isn't something you can break." you say, embracing Micheal, and pinning his arms to his sides. He struggles, but not well.

"Micheal. Come on. Think." you whisper. "Think of all you've been through. I've trained you to be stronger than this. Weeks and weeks of a stick to the knees. Weeks and weeks of tasting sand and dirt. I didn't do that so you'd be so damn soft." Come on, Micheal. "I trained you so you could be what this country needs. No one wants you to back down or give up. Not your father. Not Deckard. Not Ja'al. Not Karl. Not Freth." your words increase in intensity. "Not your mother. And definitely not me! Did I kiss a fool? Did I hold an idiot?"

You look him in the eyes, in his dead eyes. "Micheal Hile, King of Central, did I fall in love with a weakling?"

And then you kiss him, and he answers, like a page filling with watercolor. His eyes lighten, his body straightens, and you look into his eyes.

He grins, and draws a replacement blade, as you turn and he points it at the Lord of lords, still in a half-embrace, his free hand loosely on your other hip.

"I've some words for you, Lord of Lords, if you'll listen!" he calls.

(Continued)
>>
I'm holding out hope that Freth with Raev's blessing, converts to Law/Karlaw and becomes his Rikard so they can be together, after all, Law originally worked things out so Raev and Rikard could be together, and Karl is the big man now.
>>
>>32765941
>her and Raeve are probably eating ice cream together, waiting for things to get better
Too bad Raev has been banished back to the heavens. And Rikard is probably dead.
>>
>>32766487
Don't be like that anon, and like >>32766481 said, Karls the big man now, he's got the power to work things out, it just might take him a little while to get used to it with Raev's help.
>>
>>32766487
then it wouldn't surprise me if Raeve just made Freth champion her and killed herself

but yeah, we have a new Law, who isn't going to screw everything
>>
>>32766451
You seperate as he stands apart. He's covered in blood, he's holding a simple dagger, but something in him /awakens/. Something about him changes.

"What." The Lord of Lords growls.

"You don't know what it means to be a King!" he calls. "A king does not stand above his people. He does not command them! He protects them. He shoulders the burden of command. He looks upon his people, every morning, and he asks, 'how can I make this a better place?'."

He's shining. In his hands, that dagger is a sword of legends, on his body, that bloody clothing is the armor of a crusader king. "A king does not ask of his people to obey them! He asks them to do what is best for them! He does not force them to kill, to fight, to rape and pillage! He directs them to defend themselves, and teaches them how to use a sword! He does not whip them into labor, he teaches them efficiency and hard work!"

"I GAVE THEM PROSPERITY!" the Lord responds, and Micheal throws his dagger. It slides into his open mouth, severing his tongue.

"Shut your Law-damned mouth, you son of a whore." he growls. "You are no leader! You say you brought them prosperity? You brought them PAIN! You forced them to WAR!" With each set of words, he steps forth, watching as the Lord of lords draws a blade.

He stops, giving the blade due consideration of a deadly weapon. The weilder is immaterial. The sword has an edge, and can kill him.
"Guardsman. What is your name?"

There is a snap of power, and the man shakes his head.
"Th-thomas."

"May I borrow your sword, Thomas?"

"But... It's just a peasant's..."

"That would work wonderfully, sir."

He takes the sword as if it were a priceless work of art, and levels it at the Lord of Lords.

"We fight for the Kingdom, Lord of Lords. Me and mine, against you and yours. I have to wonder..." he grins, confident. "LORD OF LORDS! DO YOU HAVE ENOUGH SLAVES?"

You stand at his back as he charges at the lord of Lords, fending off attacks from the few guardsmen who still serve the Lord of Lords. Micheal grins, silent, his point made as more and more of the people cheer for him. The Lord, on the other hand, watches helplessly as his servants break and leave, wandering away.

It's a long fight, but one that... for some reason, you feel has no other outcome but victory. You slip away from Micheal's back when none of the guards are fighting any longer, to face the Lord with him, spear in hand.

He growls.
"I won't let you take this from me. Even if I die, I'll steal away your kingdom. Even if you break my soul, I'll chase you forever. You and your children!" he growls. "Your line will never be safe!"

You raise your gauntlet as Micheal launches forth, shimmering gold as he swings with his weapon. The Lord of Lord's hand slides from his wrist, off his face - and his head follows suit. His body crumples inward, imploding rapidly, bones cracking and metal snapping and shearing - but it's consumed by the blue fire before it's able to do more, the fire blazing into the sky in a pillar of blue light, slamming into the moon. The flames lick at the stone, blazing troughs and ridges, leaving a massive symbol of a raven in flight.

//Oh, very nice.\\

Harumda chuckles, snapping his fingers. A halo of fire appears over his head. "That's Lord Harumda of Lords." he says, laughing. "So yes. The world's safe." he gets up, walking towards the demon serving as your vessel. "And thanks to you, I'm the Lord of Lords now. Don't worry - I'm not like the last one." he takes a deep breath. "Micheal is safe as well. They should be giving his father to Karl - er, Law, now. "Freth?"

"...Can't see her." he says, "Sorry. The truly faithful are rare as... heh. They're not often coming, but only the Unholy can see them. I get a fuzzy feeling, looking for her, but she wears the white, now, not the black. Converted overnight."

"How long has it been?"

"A day." he admits. "You... uh, took a harder blow from the Lord of Lords than you felt, thanks to Karl. He's still getting a handle on the whole God thing."

"And Monica?"

"She's doing swell. On her way back, with the Princess." he relaxes. "As for the Hexed limbs, they were a backup plan. Make a body, if you can't get one."

"...Micheal's mom?"

He whistles, and a woman walks in, wearing flowing blue.
"I wiped out her Beast marker, and, hah. Warrior, can you fucking believe it."

"I was surprised myself." she says. "But..."

"But she wanted to fight, so there you are." he says, rolling his shoulders. "I've been teaching her.

"Do you..."

"Harumda has told me of you, Annelin. Of what you and my boy have done. My husband... Is coming back to me. So... I'll be happy, at least. Happy... And proud. Thank you, Annelin. You've made my boy into a fine ruler. And I believe I can trust you to make him a man."

You feel yourself flush, in spirit, as she giggles. "Oh my, I'm too bold."

"Time to send you back." Harumda says with a grin.

---

You lean down, gently sliding fingers through his hair, and he blinks awake, looking up at you. He sighs in relief, hugging into you.

"You alright?" you ask, as he sits back in the chair.

"I'm fine." he says. "There's repairs and cleaning to arrange, paperwork to fill out, all sorts of nonsense. I've been learning about every clan in the Central area, history of the Beastfolk - that's what we're calling Critters now, royal mandate - and other things. There's... A lot of things to attend to, even finding a new physician." he groans. "But... I'm enjoying it. New room, too. Nice and big."

You find yourself smiling despite it all. "And... We'll be going to the opera tonight, if you're in the mood. New playrights working round the clock to make something of what happened. I've been in contact with one of them for the whole day yesterday and today, and he's sent this."

A playbook lands on your lap, labeled 'Bloodline Protector'. "A history piece, he says. Anyway, I've almost sorted everything out. When I do... I was thinking we could go to your estate for a bit. Get away from the hubbub. Relax."

He rises, walking to the doorway.
"So that's it? No more threats to the world? No pending wars? Nothing?"

He turns to you, smiling and tilting his head a little.
"No, Annelin. This is the /hard part/." he says, sending for your clothes.

---THE END---
>>
>>32769169

Thank you all so much for playing today!

There's not much for me to say, other than a heavy apology for what was admittedly a rushed ending.

I'll now take questions about the setting in general.

Tomorrow, I'll be starting Rune Quest! I hope you guys come along.
>>
>>32769213
Eh, this last thread kinda killed any interest I had in the setting at large.
>>
>>32769169
>>32769213
Thanks for the thread and the wild ride, was a little turbulent at times, but I enjoyed it.

I'll be keeping an eye out for Rune Quest, I'll see how it goes before diving in though.
>>
>>32769213
Thanks for the run AG.

Mind elaborating on Rune Quest a bit?
>>
>>32769213
thanks for the thread.
now i see that thing with hexed wounds...

still, what happened to Raeve and Rikard?
>>
>>32769348
>still, what happened to Raeve and Rikard?
thats a good question, I wanna know to
>>
>>32769348
Rikard passed away shortly after the events with Law. However, he ascended to Raeve's side - the first of her angels.

>>32769335
Runes are a special form of magic, symbols that direct energies in the air into effects. What they are placed on, what rune is used, and the strength of the user, all determine a Rune's effects, durations, and use. Each person is born 'close' to a few runes, the most being 3, and are able to use them, once they learn them.

Your character will be a young man learning normal magic and Rune magic side by side, but he'll be especially skilled with Runes.
>>
>>32769436
sounds interesting, what about the story of it?
>>
>>32769436
>Rikard passed away
Figures. Freth really got shit all over in this last thread.
>>
>>32769537
She also became the High Priest of Law, which means that she is the next most powerful person in the city aside from the King, when it comes to law enforcement and creation.

>>32769474
Mostly, I want the main point of it to be getting through classes. The school is one of the most prestigious - You have to balance your social and academic goals against each other.

In short, it'll most be SoL.
>>
>>32769581
Next most powerful, first most alone.
>>
>>32769599
nah, she and KarLaw can be together when they want, Law rejiggered things so Raev and Rikard could be together, Karl can do the same for himself and Freth

any details on the setting?
>>
>>32769652
Exactly

>>32769675
Same setting, different viewpoint. After all, you're a teenager, not an adult, so of course things will be different.
>>
>>32769652
>she and KarLaw can be together when they want
Not according to the last edict of Old Law. Gods are stuck in the heavens now and can no longer interact with mortals as intimately as before. Which is the main reason I have lost interest in the setting.
>Law rejiggered things so Raev and Rikard could be together
He also un-jiggered it to where only in death could Rikard reunite with Raev.
>>
>>32769581
i'd really prefer a wizard/self-learning approach than a school setting, but oh well, it still sounds neat

>>32769714
old law can suck a cock, karlaw best law
>>
>>32769760
>old law can suck a cock
Sure, but I imagine the dying wish of a god has some lasting effect, even if gods operate on Santa Clause rules.
>>
>>32769699
>Same setting, different viewpoint. After all, you're a teenager, not an adult, so of course things will be different.
Interesting, is this before or after the events of BPQ? Would be cool seeing what happens and the aftermath of this from a very different perspective and seeing the world grow and change.

>>32769714
See >>32769699
>Exactly

KarLaw is the new big man in charge, he can pretty much do what he wants.
>>
>>32769787
To put it in simple terms, Freth and Rikard had to be exceptions. The system is more hardwired towards Old Law's wishes, but it will change over the years as Karl sets things in motion.
>>
>>32769820
>Freth and Rikard had to be exceptions
Some exceptions. You just said Rikard is dead, meaning Raev can no longer do as she has done for so long before, meaning it would be all sorts of bullshit if suddenly Karl could.
>>
>>32769788
>Would be cool seeing what happens and the aftermath of this from a very different perspective and seeing the world grow and change.

>>

They're together. Just in a different place and state.
>>
>>32769949
Which means Freth is alone and will be for her entire life since only in death will she meet any of the people who left her behind. Talk about a shitty life.
>>
>>32769969
uhh wut, have you not been reading?

Karl can do pretty much whatever he wants, and Freth is his High Priest, I'm sure they are having cute cuddlesex right now
>>
>>32770041
If that was the case, Rikard would never have died.
>>
>>32770100
wut

you are not making much sense anon, the two events don't have to be connected you know
>>
>>32770143
They're more or less identical in nature.
>>
>>32770286
not really seeing as Karl can bend the rules however much he wants to
>>
>>32769213
Thanks for running
>>
uhh, you might want to archive this...
