You were once the most powerful being to grace your planet’s existence. Through cunning, strength and sheer willpower, you carved a mighty empire across the lands. Your empire was the scourge of all who opposed you, the envy of any conqueror, and your magics made you a god among men. At the cusp of your victory, you’re achievements have been denied. You’ve been banished to a strange new world you know nothing about, with nothing but the tatters on your back. But still, this is but a setback.

While your assets may have been denied, your ambition has not. In the former world as well as this, you shall rule.

Previously on Forgotten Overlord, you continued your path to success, making new contacts and running missions for rather savvy characters. However, during a delivery of some product, you were ambushed by a DEA raid. The officers were promptly slaughtered, however one managed to escape unharmed. He has seen your power firsthand, and although he does not your face, he knows your wrath.

Currently, that agent is being interviewed on the events of the case.

-------

“You said you saw a demon Agent Grimes?” Asks the interviewer incredulously. He leans in and looks at the agent with a keen eye, examining the man for hints of doubt or lies.

“Yes.” He replies tepidly. “No. I-I don’t know. It was…. something weird.”

The agent nods in understanding. He types something into the computer at his office, before returning to the agent shortly. “Can you tell us more of the events that happened last time? You mentioned there mist or something? And then the officers just died?”

>Yes! There were signs of stabbing found in nearly every single officer at the scene!
>After the mist… something happened. Everyone just fell down, dying one by one. It was like a scene from a horror movie

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible. Unless specified otherwise, the best of 3 rolls is the result, and rolling high is good.

Write-ins for all votes or always welcome and encouraged. Put your own spin on it, suggest dialogue, add an addendum, or anything else. Just because only some options specify to write in, doesn't mean that they aren't welcome for anything else. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Remember, you’re a fucking overlord. Act like it.

Current Magic System (under revision):

-Fire (Sub magic: light): Incinerate and immolate. With more training, set off explosions and shoot energy beams, just like in your Chinese Cartoons.
-Water (Sub Magic: ice): Water and ice, from cooling your lemonade to parting the Red Sea.
-Air (Sub magic: lightning): From tornados to torture, air and its sub unit is a versatile element. Just make sure you have some oxygen on hand.
-Earth (Sub magic: TBD): Move rocks, create golems, forge metal, set off earthquakes. If it involves dirt and whatever you can find in it, you can use it.
-Order (Sub Magics: Life and Gravity): Command of the natural forces of the universe and all that mystical crap. Also includes the manipulation of life, from simple life, from the humble protozoa to even the mightiest of mortals. Try not to go insane playing God. By the way, this shit is hard. Don’t expect to pull this off easily.
-Entropy (Sub Magic: TBD): [under revision, just know I’m sketching out ideas]

As always, any non retarded suggestions are appreciated. (both story wise and system wise)

The agent takes a breath, before recanting his experiences. “After the mist… something happened. Everyone just fell down, dying one by one. It was like a scene from a horror movie.”

His interviewer nods solemnly. “I can’t image that would have been pleasant to say the least. So, your targets just masked the area with smoke-”

“Mist. It was mist.” He interjects.

“Ok, a mist. Your targets masked the area with a mist.” The interviewer said as he continued, and just promptly should the officers dead?”

“Bullets don’t do that. You need to see the autopsy; those were stab wounds!”

“Stab wounds? From your story you said they were dropping dead like flies. No person could take out an entire force of armed agents with a knife. They’d have to be superhuman.”

“The guy might as well have been superhuman! Fuckin’ mist comes out of his hands, guy dodges bullets point blank, and then he just randomly stabs everyone but me to death! You tellin’ me a normal person could do that?”

“Agent Grimes, I’m not saying you’re wrong, but you have to understand, this doesn’t exactly sound normal. And with your psychological condition, I have to take things with a grain of salt.”

The agent rises from his seat, and looks his interviewer right in the eyes. “I know what I saw! And I’m telling you, with God as my witness, this shit doesn’t add up. Our target had some trick up his sleeve, and he fucking stabbed every single one of my partners to death.”

“Relax Agent Grimes. Take a breath.”
The agent does that very thing, taking a deep breath and sitting back down.

“I’ll say it again, I have to take this with a grain of salt-” Grimes rolls his eyes at that. “You were under a highly stressful condition and you may be suffering from the mental trauma of seeing your comrades killed in action. We can’t discount the fact you may have some memory loss or have suffered from a hallucination-”

“Bullshit! Way I see it, you got 3 options. One,that fucker had disappearing knives. Two, he’s is capable of turning invisible. OR I’M FUCKING RIGHT!”

“Will all due respect to agent magic is a load of horseshit. There's no such thing. Perhaps they knew of this operation and took the necessary precautions? Or maybe they had someone else provide backup for them? Set off a mist making machine?”

>Wanna see the proof, bring in the fucking autopsy! It’ll show everything! The stab wounds, the body temperature, everything!

Grime’s laughs. “Yeah, they just *happened* to have a mist making machine on them, remotely wired to their car, for things like this. And it just flooded a 2 story warehouse in less than a second.”

“Sarcasm won’t get us anywhere agent.”

“And neither will dismissing me because I saw some weird shit. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Bring. In. The. Autopsy.”

“Alright then. A moment please.” The interviewer steps outside the door, leaving the agent alone to his thoughts. A few minutes later he returns, holding a folder in his hand. “Lets see here….”

The man begins to read through the case study. “Hm… this is *quite*, er, erratic. Body temperatures found abnormally cold… and in a desert too. Signs of penetration marks in the body, yet no traces of metal found in the bloodstream. Hm… you were right, bullets are not the cause of death. No… that can’t be right…” His eyes open in shock. “These are stab wounds… And they’re found in every single agent. And all with the same abnormally cold body temperature! How?!”

“Told you so.” Grime smugly responds.

The interviewer doesn’t respond, engrossed in the report. After a minute of silence, he speaks up. “We’re going to see you some time later for further questioning. These reports are telling me very interesting things.”

“Like what?”

“Someone is out there. Someone very dangerous, Agent Grimes.”

-------------

Meanwhile, back at your home.

“How do you work this monstrosity?! You say to yourself as the microwave bursts into flames. You have no idea how this happened. All you did was follow the instructions: You just put the food in a container, and then heated it up. So what it happened to be metal?

Anyways, after rapidly freezing the thing with a quick spell, you sigh in relief.

Then a thought occurs, you might as well get some food outside or do something interesting. Doesn’t Samuel’s friend own a restaurant? Yes, the older man, Pops.

>Visit Pops, maybe get some info on the town like he offered

You decide to visit the man, and after a brief walk you arrive at his restaurant. He immediately recognizes you and offers you a seat. “Well, well, if it isn’t Shay. Glad to see you took my offer.” He smiles, before leading you to an empty table. “Take a seat, I’ll get you something.”

“Thank you my friend.”

Less than a minute later he returns to pour you some coffee, dabbing a bit of sugar as you did last time. It seems this man is good at remembering what people like.

Taking a seat across from you, he strikes up a conversation. “So, what can I do for you my boy? You look like you got something on your mind? Some junkie stole your goods before he could pay? Lord knows these degenerates are desperate...”

>You mentioned you had information on the town? I’m fairly new here….

>>You mentioned you had information on the town? I’m fairly new here….
>Do you know of any important people in this town?

Pops laughs. “Information on the town, eh? Son, I’ve been living here for over 30 years, I know everything about this shithole. From the drunkards who run the auto shop, to that asshole we call a mayor, to the young pricks that try to get protection money of me.”

You take a sip from your drink and continue listening. “I got a map of the town around here, but basically I’ll explain things first. With a city this big and with over 100,000 people, there’s quite a lot to see.” The middle aged man takes his time to explain the in and outs of the city, the current politics, the sights to see such as the comic shop, the gun shop, or the auto repair, and of course: the crime. The drug rings, the pimping, gambling dens, the gangs, and their major players. People like Rocky, the corrupt Mayor Anderson, and Police chief Johnson.

You process the lecture in, asking questions and specifics. After a good 30 minutes of talking (it is a slow day at the diner, so there is little interruption), you feel as if you’ve a good amount of information of this city. It no longer seems so foreign. Despite the differences in culture, outlook and technology, people are still people it seems. And with that you take pride in the knowledge that your reign of conquest might not have been so cut off.

There’s always a second chance, after all.

You return to questioning him, however:

“So, how did you and Samuel meet?” You ask.

Pops rubs the back of his neck in embarrassment. “Oh man that’s a long story….” He chuckles in slight embarrassment. “Short story is a few years ago this prick wanted to buy the property here; probably ‘cause I got a liquor license in this joint…. But, the main point was that I needed some legal help to get him off, and that cheap bastard offered his sources after a mutual friend introduced us to each other. I knew immediately Sam was a shifty bastard, and he was perfect for this.” You chuckle in agreement.

“And that was why I hired him. He saved my ass legally, and has been using that as a hook to get free food ever since.”

“That sounds like something he’d do.” You reply. “Always looking to get a benefit out of any situation.

“Preaching to the choir my friend.”

“Wait…” You interrupt “Protection money you say? Someone is extracting tribute from you?”

Pop’s sucks his teeth in anger. “Aw shit. Look son, don’t worry about it. Just ignore it. There’s no need to get you involved in my business.”

“No. You’ve helped me and I shall return the favour.”

The man shakes his head and tries to dissuade you from it. “I can’t let you do that. I don’t have anything to pay-”

“You’ve already paid with the aid you’ve given me. You’re a good man, allow me to help you.”

Further attempts to stop you continue, but you won’t budge. Eventually, the older man signs in defeat. “The look in your eyes tells me you won’t quit.”

You smile, reveling in your (small) victory. “Look, Shay, what’s been going on is a few years ago, crack hit this city, and it hit hard. You already know there’s a crime problem here, so I won’t repeat myself, but what’s been going on is many of the dealers have been trying to, uh, diversify their market, moving from drugs to protection rackets, smuggling, all that stuff. And well, someone’s been trying to muscle in on my place.”

“Your point?”

“They can learn from their mistakes and get out of this mess! There’s no need to end them.”

The old man tries to bargain. “Look, I don’t mind you getting them off my back, but please, don’t kill them!”

“...Fine.” You reply somewhat petulantly.

Tuesday night, closing time, around 10 PM:

The night is still young, and Pop’s looks slightly nervously outside. A figure walks toward the establishment, and to his relief it is you.

You nod at him in acknowledgement, and he waves for you to come inside.

“Oh thank God its you Shay. How’ve you been son?”

“Fairly well, I’ve done quite a few jobs in the past few days and met a few people and have gained a few employees here and there. Its been hard work, but I’ve been rather successful expanding my business here. Not everyone’s been happy of course, but I’ve been able to make them see it my way..”

“Ah, aggressive expansion. The sure fire way to to climb the ranks of business.”

“They call it capitalism I hear.”

“Ha! They aren’t wrong.”

The idle chatter is broken by a sharp whistle outside.

“Ayo old man?” A voice calls out. “You got my money? We’ve been real patient, but you see, the landlady been bitchin’ about the rent, and we gotta collect. So, time for you to pay up.”

“Fuck! They’re here!” Pop’s cries.

“Don’t kill them! Please!” He pleads, and you nod in agreement. You are a man of honor, and thus will not kill them. At this moment.

As you walk out, you are immediately yelled at by the trespassers. “The fuck the old man at?! Can’t he handle his own shit? He gotta send his little immigrant to fix his problems?” His accomplices laugh in response, and at you.

You brush them off, simply walking closer to them, your smile growing with every step. “Get the fuck out of the way. This shit don’t involve you.”

“Last warning prick.” One of his accomplices calls out.

>>32744677
>>32744652

The lightning isn't tied to mind control, its tied to air magic. However, lightning is useful because its a very painful thing, and pain is an excellent reinforcer.

----------

You say nothing, merely continue to smile at them. There is a palpable tension in the air, one that you can tell implicitly unnerves your current enemies. They aren’t used to people looking at them like the weaklings they are, and it frightens them.

Inevitably, the silence is broken. The same man who warns you decides to make good on his threat, and pulls out a knife. He lunges at you quickly, intending to stab you in the torso.

You effortlessly dodge, before grabbing his arm and twisting it backwards until he lets go in agony. His painful cry and your sudden movements briefly stuns his accomplices, before they try to attack you again, this time in unison.

A quick burst of lightning stops them in their tracks.

And as their friend before them, they are nothing to you. One has a chain, the other a bad, another brass knuckles and one even has a gun. And its all worthless. The end result is the same. A jab here, a blood inducing kick there, a slam that leaves spider cracks in the cement over there, and to top it off, a resounding the result is the same.

Less than a minute in and those who threatened you are on the ground, moaning in pain or wiping the blood off their clothes.

You pick up their leader by the neck and hold him eye to eye. Grinning, you simply reply “But it does.”

The young man croaks out a very weak ‘yes’ and in turn you release him, where he falls on the ground ungracefully to say the least.

“Tell you what, you mentioned you need money... If so, I can give a job. How does that sound?”

The man on the ground groggily raises his head to respond to you.

“What’s that?” You ask, not sure of his response before leaning in, a fist crackling with lightning (just in case if he tries anything. Can’t be too careful now)

“Yeah…. sure.”

“Good.”

“Oh shit its you.” You hear one of his friends whisper as he picks himself off the ground and wipes the blood off his face with his undamaged arm.

“Yo bro” He calls out. “Take the deal, you don’t wanna fuck with this guy. He’s been making waves around here.”

“Yeah man, my brother told me about this new guy whose insane. Its gotta be him.”

“How do we *not* know about you? Man you’ve been everywhere.”

“Yeah man, you don’t build up an empire without getting on the radar.”

“And you’re fast too. Came out of nowhere and started taking over the game. You don’t think people are going to notice that?”

You ponder this for a moment. Its been true, in the 2 weeks you’ve arrived you’ve done many a quest and mission for Samuel and of his contacts, greatly expanding both his and your own horizons and funds, and at the same time, building your own miniature empire. While officially you are his partner, the bulk of the physical work goes to you (obviously), and thus, you realize, it does make sense that your face would be more well known of the two. Still, so far business has been boom, and perhaps a reputation for efficiency would be desirable….

“I take this as your acceptance of my offer?” You ask them.

“Hell yeah.”

“Yup.”

“Man, you’re like a fucking superhero. Of course.”

“Good, good.” You nod in agreement and smile, giving them a chill in their spine. However, I have a few questions I wish to ask you all.”

Your gaze hardens at your new workers. “How much do they know about me?”

After a bit of silence, one of them speaks up. “Not much actually. We just heard you’ve moved in and you were fucking shit up, making waves and what not.” Another one your employees add to this. “Yeah boss, we haven’t really heard much. There’s this one rumor I heard that you’re this crazy wizard but everyone I know thinks that refers to you using tricks or something, or just being that good at your job.

“And… how much do people know of my… abilities?”

“Nothing. Never heard or expected this shit until today. Until today, I thought this was comic book shit.”

“I see….” You reply, taking this information in. It appears your secrets are still relatively safe, but you’re quick conquests have come at the cost of your total anonymity.

“In any case, there’s one more thing I’d like for you to do right now. Tell me everything: Your plans, your operations, friends, whatever you’ve done to earn money. Because those businesses are mine now.”

“What?!” One of them speaks out.

“They are mine now.” You remind him, you gaze beating him into submission. “See, where I’m from, there’s this thing called the Right of Conquest. And since I’ve bested you today, you’re things are mine. Are we clear?”

The men nod their heads meekly.

“Wonderful.” You smile at them cheerfully, which only further unnerves them. “Now, lets get the specifics out of the way. What when and where, we’ll meet up and how things will be run…”

You spend the rest of your time explaining the specifics and integrating them into your business. If they have any directions, you’ve simply directed them to Samuel. He handles the finer things, after all.

Afterwards you return to Pops, the old man rather surprised, to say the least.

Noted and recorded. That'll be it for today.

Feel free to discuss things and ask questions.

Is there a list of spells or basic abilities that we have or even a pastebin I may have missed?
>>

bind their minds so they dont tell people, the slower people realize that we do have magic the more suprise we get out of it
unless thats part of the working for us deal

Not yet. I'm still working on finalizing a list (although granted I should post what I currently have and then edit it as I go along) and will try to get one up soon.

Same with pastebins of characters and equipment.

Can we use magic to create minions/protection of some sort?
>>

If you count Golems as minions, then the answer is yes.

Protection, yes, if you're creative with what you have. Using the example of Earth Magic, you can use the earth to form a wall to block projectiles coming toward you.

I mean more permanent protection; like magic forcefields and such.
