The main office is spacious, to say the least, and occupies the second highest floor in the Hojo Technical Group Main Office. “Technical Group” is a pretty way of saying “fixers, blackmailers, and underhanded businessmen.” They, like the Ryo Clan, are little more than thugs, thieves, and racketeers; the only real difference is that they steal from richer people than the Ryo Clan does, as a general rule (though the Clan does prefer to steal from other yakuza – they tend to have more money). While the Clan and the Group have close ties, and have had them for a very long time, the strain in the room among the three people who actually matter could be a make-or-break situation.

The first of course, is yourself Ryuu Ryukusa, newly empowered and totally cool, armed with secrets you are not supposed to have and a talent for fashion that exceeds those of Versace. Maybe even Kenzo. Not to mention the cutest right hand half-dragonette and the most cuddly (really, she is, she just weighs around two hundred pounds) half-oni-chick as backup. The fact that your Element of Water lends itself to cleverness and makes you more dangerous than you have any right to be is merely icing on the cake.

Oh, also, half-dragon.
>>
>>32732001
The second most important person in the room is Taisho Ryoga, Kumatori Hojo's right hand man and confidant. Who also happens to be a half-demon, born of a union between demon and human. His slick looking black skin and glowing red eyes and small horns are very impressive. He looks like he's in his mid-twenties which puts him anywhere from fifteen to one-hundred-and-thirty, but you suspect fifties or sixties – he's not powerful enough to be entirely on his own, but smart enough to have insinuated himself into the next best thing. That makes him smart and dangerous. The fact that he's hidden his true nature from his employer – who was married to an actual Dragon at one time – makes him very talented. If he hadn't stepped in on you while you were using your talents for discernment, you wouldn't have thought him a demon-born at all.

He seems to think you won't tell anyone for some reason, which is a good enough reason not to tell anyone just yet.

The third person, who technically should be the most important person, is Kumatori Kiki, daughter of Kumatori Hojo, heiress and iconic rich girl. She's beautiful, rich, talented, admired, and engaged. Your job, as part of the Ryo Clan, is to safeguard and protect her until her wedding night. Of course, you've hated each others guts ever since kindergarten, through grade school, and most of the way through Celestial High before you were summarily pulled out of school by Oba-chan, the leader of Clan Ryo. You trained and worked for months, and naturally, your first real job is protecting Kiki-san. As a Wood dragonette, her powers are innately attuned to yours, and a fight between you would be evenly matched if she had any real training herself (which you seriously doubt s the case, pampered little bitch).

The fact that your presence near her will increase her fertility by 300% or more is just incidental, of course.
>>
>>32732039
Oh, the head of the Hojo Technical Group, Kumatori Hojo himself, Kiki's father, is also in the room, but he's not important.

He's a big fat man sitting behind his polished mahogany desk, smoking an expensive cigar, dressed in white and wearing enough jewelery to be the envy of any dragon-child of the West. His sunglasses gleam as he turns his chair towards you; the fact that he's had the building lights set up for that effect is somewhat amusing. Cheesy, but amusing. Kiki-san is standing next to him, head down, demure and pretty; her hair is fuchsia at the top fading to near-white at the waist length ends, and she is wrapped in a beautiful silk sakura themed kimono, her hips and breasts accentuated, rather than hidden by the normally androgyny-inducing outfit.

“I must say, I was very impressed! Those are some of the most well trained security in Japan, and I even brought in specialists from China and Hokkaido! What was it, twenty seconds?”

“Fifteen and three-fifths seconds, Kumatori-sama,” pipes up the mysterious Taisho Ryoga.

“And that's only because you talked to them I bet.”

You bow politely, a quick acknowledgment. “Hai, Kumatori-sama.” You didn't even muss your perfectly tailored and fitted pants-suit or get one lock of your perfectly knotted and pinned hair out of place. The Western styling of the office makes your horns itch – the feng shui is totally fucked up in this place, something you're especially sensitive to given it's entirely your kind of elemental nature that creates feng shui.
>>
>>32732053
“Well, you're definitely the dragon-girl to protect my daughter! You know each other from school, right?”

“Hai, oto-san. We went to school together.” Kiki's submissive tone is totally out of character for how you remember her at school, the spoiled, imperious, demanding brat whose voice could travel three octaves in seconds when talking to adults after demanding concessions from other children. “Ryuu-san was very athletic even then.” Her blue eyes lift and gaze into your deep sapphire ones, some emotion hidden within before the fall to the floor once more.

“Well, then I am glad you are here, Ryuu-san – may I call you Ryukusa?”

[] Of course, Kumatori-sama.
[] Please keep this professional, Kumatori-sama; my aunt would be scandalized!
[] K-Kumatori-sama, how bold!
[] Really? This is a vote? Come on.
[] You are the client of my Clan; I defer to your desires, Kumatori-sama.

Whatever, fatso.

Fuck yes, Ryukuza quest! My body is ready.

Fuck yes, I've been waiting so long! And it's time for the (other) real star of the show to appear as well. Looking forward to seeing what character dynamics are put in place this session!
>[x] You are the client of my Clan; I defer to your desires, Kumatori-sama.
Respectful and observant, wasn't it?
>>
“Of course Kumatori-sama. Even if you had not engaged the services of Ryo-gozoku, I would be pleased to be called so.”

Kiki stares at you like you just lost your mind, and Taisho-san gives a slight half smile, as though he is aware that you would like nothing more than to sit on the desk, steal the man's cigar, and blow smoke rings at Kiki.

Which sounds like a really great idea, except for that damn fortune your sister gave you. Be good, be proper, be considerate, don't fuck it up or everything you personally fear will eat you alive. That sort of thing. Except, you know, real.

He guffaws – which is a really weird, disturbing sort of thing coming from any Japanese throat – and slaps his knee. “Damn girl, you really are the type! Well, all you need to do is keep my daughter safe until her wedding in four months, and then you're good to go!” Reciting the Heart Sutra in your head helps keep your calm, because FOUR FUCKIN' MONTHS? YOU'D KILL THAT SNAKE-BITCH IF SHE COULDN'T WIPE THE – calm, calm, good dragonette. Do not scare the client. Speaking of: he stands up and places both hands on his desk, and looks you in the eyes.

“My wife – may she serve the Heavenly Mandate Forever – was a very powerful dragon. I can see your true nature, just as I can see my daughter's and I know how dangerous the people who want her are. Do you truly think you can protect my daughter from them?” Gone is the silly Westernized zaibatsu head. This is a serious man, who wants his daughter protected. But you can see, even without the Water Eyes, that this is a man whose concern for his daughter is secondary to continuing to hold onto his power and prestige. If it were inconvenient, he would cut off his right hand.
>>
>>32732202
Interestingly, he does not see Taisho Ryoga's true nature. Nor, for that matter, does Kiki. You wouldn't know it, if he hadn't walked in on you while you were using the Water Eyes, that peculiar power that somehow relates to your clever and dangerous nature.

Kiki-san's head remains bowed, but you can see her glancing surreptitiously between you and her father; Taisho-san's dark eyes are on you, as Kumatori-sama's serious gaze falls on you.

[] The Hojo Group can count on Clan Ryo at all times, Kumatori-sama.
[] I will die before one person can harm Kumatori-san.

We sure do seem to know a lot of things we aren't 'supposed' to already, between this guy and the Oba-san stuff. Should make for some fun times!
>>
>>32732216
>[x] Oba-chan commands it, it is already done, Kumatori-sama.
Sounds good. This is for you, old fart.
>>

I would combine these two. Pledging your life is kinda expected as a bodyguard anyway, and putting him at ease might get him out of our general vicinity.
>>
>>32732216
>[x] I will die before even one person can harm Kumatori-san.
>[x] How may I prove my worth further, Kumatori-sama?
We may strongly dislike Oba-san, this guy AND Kiki, but damn if we don't take work seriously, and appearing professional even more seriously.
>>

[x] The Hojo Group can count on Clan Ryo at all times, Kumatori-sama
He doesn't care if we die, only that we succeed.

It's the most accurate one. Promising our life before hers is meaningless if we both die anyway.
>>
>>32732264
>We may strongly dislike Oba-san, this guy AND Kiki, but damn if we don't take work seriously, and appearing professional even more seriously.
Its more an awareness that if we went againts oba-san with our current power we'd be crushed. Ergo, the logical move is to be a good little girl and increase our personal power and subordinates until the previous statement is no longer true.
>>
>FUCK NO!
>Gods, True Dragons, Great Kami, Devils.
Previous rank had demons and youkai in it. Does the Japanese mythology have a distinction between devils and demons? Or is meant in that japanese demons are youkai, while demons and demons hail from western mythology? If so, would Beelzebub count as a devil?

This could be useful to know to tell the fuckers apart and know when to act lower than dirt to up the chances of survival.
>>
>>32732443
>while demons and demons hail from western mythology?
If so, there should be angels and archangels, so probably not.
>>
>>32732443
Akuma (devils) are servants of the heavenly order, while demons are disruptive agents against it - demons are a form of youkai, essentially, while akuma have a sepcific (evil) role.

>[X] Oba-chan commands it, it is already done, Kumatori-sama.

[X] I am the perfect bodyguard, and don't let anyone let you think otherwise....bakayaro.

No, really, this is simple office politics for Yakuza of any stripe, dragon, demon, oni, whatever. You politely let the boss intimidate you and let it all roll of your back like spring rain.

“”Kumatori-sama.” You gaze back with utter equanimity, and he stands up slowly, looking at you strangely. “I am shinobi. Oba-chan set me this task for you, and I will die before allowing harm to come to Kumatori Kiki. None may harm her save at my will, and my will is like water, drowning all who set foot upon the calm lake. Clay Ryo may be relied upon by the Hojo Group.” You look into his human eyes, protected though they may be by the shades he is wearing, inside, with tinted windows.

Kiki is staring at you like you've turned into a True Dragon while she wasn't looking, and the faint worry on Taisho-san's face is gratifying.

You are almost tempted to ask how you can prove yourself further....but he interrupts.

“Good. Tell Ryoga what you need, and he'll take care of it; you can stay here in the penthouse with Kiki, on level forty-five.” Kiki twitches, obviously wanting to protest, but she remains quiet. “Kiki's marriage with Kaga Ushino is in four months, and I am relying on you, Ryukusa.” He bows slightly, and you return the bow twice as deep, and remain where you are as he leaves the room – mostly because Kiki and Taisho-san remain as they are.
>>
>>32732443

Japane has more often a duality of "nice&helpful" Kami and "cruel&malicious" Kami. There is Enma-O who is comparable to Lucifer in the sense that he is Lord of the Underworld, but the christian mythology is not really easily adaptable in the more "shamanistic" japanese mythology.
>>
>>32732503
Kaga Ushino – son of Kaga Kunito, head of the Kaga Clan; they are technically rivals to Clan Ryo, but an alliance made through the Hojo Group rather than attempting to do so directly would benefit all three clans quite nicely. They have less ties to the spirit-world than Clan Ryo, but they have many more ties to the supernatural world; its entirely possible the 'Experts from Hokkaido' were Kaga plants to test your skills.

And apparently he needs help with his morning wood, because Kiki's is too polished for him.

As the door shuts behind you, Kiki's head comes up, her eyes bright and angry. Taisho Ryoga steps forward and bows, interrupting what looks like was building up to an absolutely hysterical tantrum. “Ryuu Ryukusa. I am honored to make your acquaintance.” It's obvious he knows you, and not just from Kiki-san.

Calling him out now does two things; it tells Kiki that she's in more danger than she thinks, and it causes Ryoga to rethink any immediate plans he has for us.

Unimportant. He's clearly Hojo's 'éminence grise', he won't work against his own interests. If he keeps his nature secret from his employers, that gives us bargaining power if we ever need something of him. which we don't right now.
>>
>Kiki is the childhood friend
Not sure how I feel about that one. Could have been revealed earlier, of left for another character. Just feels tacked-on as it is now.
>>
>>32732674
Revealing that we know it does not reduce its value as a bargaining chip, anon.
>>
>>32732676
We already knew that she and Ryukusa had gone to school together though. The length of acquaintance was perhaps not given, but it's hardly tacked on. That's ignoring the fact that 'friend' seems quite the misrepresentation of their relationship.

It's been established since thread 1 that we hate her guts and she hates ours.
>>
>>32732694
It does when the bargaining chip only has value so long as the other main actors (Kiki and her dad) don't know that it even exists.
And telling him that we know what he is, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE PERSON IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A SECRET FROM, kind of devalues the chip.

“Taisho Ryoga. You know me, but I don't think Kumatori-san mentioned me in anything but the least flattering terms.” You lock gazes with him, and he smiles, inclining his head slightly.

“Hey, I'm right here you know!”

“What is your part in this? Certainly more than simply standing by and watching.” You can hear Kiki's teeth grinding. You wonder if their power prevents that, idly, though most of your attention is on the demon-born man before you.

“You are right, Ryuu-san. I am taking advantage of my employer's generosity and doing my best to ensure that everything that can possibly be done to further the Hojo Technical Group Zaibatsu is as strong and healthy as his daughter is.” Though Taisho-san doesn't look away, glance, or even move, projecting nothing out of the ordinary at all, Kiki flinches, and places her right hand over the crook of her elbow, her cheeks burning and her eyes downcast. It would be easy to suspect him, but he's also a too-convenient scapegoat. Easy to blame lightning on oni and tsunamis on dragons – no different for demons, you'd suspect.
>>
>>32732869
“All that aside, Ryuu-san, I am here to assist you in every way possible.” He steps forward and sets a metal key-card, an elevator turn-key, a folded map, and a list of numbers and names on the corner of the desk closest to you. Stepping over to pick it up, you note his name at the top of the list. It's obviously an emergency numbers list, with the head of security, the drivers, Kumatori-sama's secretary, and other people you might need to contact or identify. A glance at the map tells you it's the basic building outline – fire escapes, emergency exits, elevators, what floors are supposedly what (that's fuckin' believable, sure).

“The key will allow you access to all floors in the elevator, even those normally restricted.” Uh huh. That's not a fuckin' set up. “The key-card will access all areas not code-secured, including the roof access and parking garages.” You'd bet it accesses several secure locations too. Because then he couldn't pull crap and blame you. Poor bastard has no fuckin' idea what he's dealing with – you're a Water dragonette, not some air-headed Fire-bitch, block-headed Wood dragon-born (you're not going to call Kiki-san that, it's old, you have much better stuff!), empty headed Void-chick, or thick-skulled Stoner! “If something should happen to oujo-sama, please call me at once.” Sure, then he can conveniently forget to tell anyone while he pulls some sort of shit.

Kiki looks like she's about to explode; her face is literally red. It's probably time to finish this up.

“Domo arigatou gozimasu, Taisho-san. You are very kind to a small dragon; I look forward to your assistance.” No reason not to lay it on nice and smooth. Kumatori-sama trusts him with the knowledge of his half-dragon daughter, so even if either of them know he's half-demon, there's no reason to hide the fact that you're a half-dragon from the microphones and cameras. You're presuming, but better safe than sorry. Technically you could check for them but it's considered bad form to sweep the client's office for bugs when it's not your job. Of course, Kiki's rooms are fair game.

If only you didn't have to actually be worried now. Because with Taisho-san present, things are WAY too fuckin' dangerous to stay here any longer than you absolutely have to.

You bow to him, and he bows back, slightly more deep than necessary – abasing himself slightly. Acknowledging you have a measure of power over him. He's no fool, and that makes him ten times as dangerous as he already was. He leaves quietly and you're alone with Kumatori Kiki. True, the doors and front walls are glass, but it's sound (and probably bullet) proof. Which is probably a VERY good thing.
>>
>>32733068
You turn towards Kiki, and grin, tilting your head and arms crossed. “Hiya!”

“I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING HERE?! ARE YOU INSANE?!” It takes the better part of ten minutes before she stops shouting long enough to take a breath, and your ears are ringing. “Didn't they have anyone more competent than you who could do this job?!”

“Oh, a real question with an actual answer! I'm privileged!” Took her long enough to get to the actual point.

“What?! What are you talking about, Ryukua-san?”

You wink at her....

[x] Nevermind, Kiki-chan. Come on, we're leaving.
Don't let the bugs hear anything; we'll take her to her room, sweep it for bugs (both electronic and magical), then we can answer her questions and grill her on who's been abusing her.

Sounding sarcastic and letting believe that you know he's up to something but powerless to do something about it is probably better than playing the airhead, considering he's a demon.

If it was Hojo, then, yeah, it would have been "please take good care of me" all the way!

“Of course there's no one more competent than me. No one can do for you the things I can do for you, babe.”

“B....B....BABE!?” She's yelling so loudly that anything that could possibly be overheard, such as you checking the blotter, taking all but five staples out of the stapler, making two- and three-link paper-clip chains, Checking all the pen nibs, and studying Kumatori-sama's chop can't possibly be overheard. When she starts to repeat herself you walk up to her and touch her nose with your fingertip.

“That's right, it's all me. You would not BELIEVE the things I can do for you.” Like getting her pregnant, for one.

The sudden silence is both gratifying and shocking, and she stares at you, utterly bewildered. “Yeah, that works on babies too. It's a chi trick.” Her eyes blaze and she starts to take a breath. “I said 'babies too' you know! Give me a break, Kiki-san. Besides, we have to get out of here. Let's debug your suite and take a look at what you got in the way of a wardrobe. Because, honestly, sakura motif? Pink hair? Gradients? It all blends so much! You're losing a real opportunity here!”

Surprisingly, she's latched on to the single most important thing you said. Maybe all her growth wasn't restricted to her chest after all. (Her hips aren't too bad – she doesn't suffer from so much junk-in-the-trunk a doped up gang-banger would admire it, luckily!) “I can't just leave, I have to....to pack, and get ready, and....and....”
>>
>>32733308
“It's really not safe for you here. Or anywhere, but less safe here than you think.” She unconsciously places her right hand over her inner elbow, which does a lovely job of emphasizing the pillow her chest makes of the kimono she's wearing. She sees where your eyes are roaming and puts her hand down immediately, cheeks flush with anger. “Fine, you're the one in charge. But we have to be quick. The longer we stay, the more likely something bad will happen.”

She hesitates, and looks down at the thick carpeting. “....do you mean that, Ryukusa-san?”

You simply look at her, and she lifts her head to see your eyes, and recoils at what she sees there. “H....hai.” Turning, you make your way to the doors, and sweep the office, checking the secretary again (who looks very young and awfully pretty and very bored to be an office lady), before moving out into the hallway.

Kiki-oujo-chan dutifully follows, her life dealing with security very obvious. You're impressed by the guards and normal security ignoring both you and her, as though you're just two office people wandering through. Whatever else he may be, Taisho-san is very thorough and efficient in his work. Kiki even steps to the side and lets you stand in front of the elevator; you noticed on the way up they open from one side and have mirrors, allowing someone outside to look inside the elevator from safety while keeping the people inside from seeing the entire hallway.

Yeah, you're that fuckin' good.

Allowing Kiki to precede you into the elevator, you insert the key (hehehe) and turn it, allowing the eight extra buttons to light up, including the top floor and an extra basement level. Yep, that bastard's gonna fuckin' frame you for something all right. Too bad you'll be long gone and out of harm's way long before then, if you can get your baggage moving.
>>
>>32733327
Maybe now would be a good time to call up Akari and have her prep a secure vehicle from our motor pool; we'll have to assume that all Hojo company vehicles have been compromised.
>>
>>32733327
>(This is your competence exemplar. You really are THIS GOOD!)

Speaking of which, the hallway to her penthouse suites on the forty-fifth floor – which she was clearly pissed about having to stay in, from her reaction to her father's announcement, is short and would be a nightmare to try and hold against any spirit-folk without destroying the place. The door is quite solid, has a peep-hole (oh yes, good, that's a lovely way to die, shot through the eye!) and a camera in the corner (fuckin' brilliant, let's WATCH someone die from a DIFFERENT FUCKING FLOOR!) as well as an intercom (with its own separate camera in plain view; what idiot designed this setup, anyways?).

You wave the magnetic key in front of the lock (you know twelve people in your clan including yourself that this lock alone would stop for half a second), and step inside the living room. The huge, wide open living room with huge glass windows – unless they count as walls – covering more than two thirds of the building. The kitchen is clear, the counter is designed so you can see the whole floorspace (first thing they did right), but the bathroom and there are two bedrooms each down their own hall (WHY, GODS, WHY?!). You slip through each room silently, your ward standing politely beside the wall outside the door as you do so.

Freaky, she's treating you seriously.

As you pass the bathroom – good gods, its bigger than the room you shared with Akari and Yui! – you spot just what you need, and you quickly collect them all. As you enter the living room, wondering exactly who the second bedroom (which looked more like Hinata's shrine than a bedroom) belongs to, you call out, “Come on in princess!”
>>
>>32733308
>taking all but five staples out of the stapler
>making two- and three-link paper-clip chains
You monster.
>checking the blotter
>Checking all the pen nibs
>studying Kumatori-sama's chop
You lost me.
>>
>>32733391
Ryukusa is clever and dangerous - his chop is his personal seal, his blotter may have appointment and notes, and his pens...uhh, got me on that one.

But she is hyperactive.
>>
>>32733385
“Don't call me that! It's Kumatori-san or oujo-sama only from now on!” Back in her home territory, her attitude comes back instantly. She enters, leaving her shoes as far away as possible from yours on the entry-way floor, and pauses when she sees what you are doing. “Why are you putting all those candles in the living room? Do you have any idea how expensive those are?! And you can't mean to light all of them at once, it will smell HORRID!”

“Give me your phone and anything else you like a whole lot that has batteries.” “What?!” “Now, Kiki-chan.” She angrily pulls her phone out of her pocket and takes her watch off. You quickly check both, but nothing unusual in either. Turning off her phone and pocketing both, you then turn your phone off as well. “Ryukuso-” You glance at her calmly, really having expected better insults than that from her, and her cheeks color. “Ryuu-san, what are you DOING?!”

You stand and hold up your hands, and close your eyes. Surprisingly she shuts up. There is some mercy in the universe after all. Then you do your Party Trick.

Every light in the house, every smoke alarm, every piece of electronic equipment that isn't on you, shorts out. That also includes the eight listening devices, the three cameras, the tracking devices (four of them!) in her various pieces of clothing in her closet, and those one her person (one on her earring, one in her brassier, you think, and one INSIDE her!). Learning to control that one cost Clan Ryo six televisions, eight radios, more phones than you can shake a sword at, and several visits from the power company.
>>
>>32733405
You definitely made THAT clear!
>>
>>32733424
You toss the key card on the table – it HAD devices in it aside from the magnetic chips, and those are also now toast – and you'll get rid of the elevator key as soon as possible. You have maybe about fifteen minutes before the power comes back, and with it the cameras and microphones that are wired in. The self powered devices are dead for good, including the key card (Fuck you, Taisho!). You quickly text Akari-niji-chan for a trustworthy car in ten minutes, and get a two word reply, and then shut off your own phone as well.

Kiki's starting to tense up and about to explode....

Whoever keeps archiving these things early is incredibly incompetent. The threads don't share any single tag besides "collective game", meaning you need to search the archive multiple times find all the threads.
>>
>>32733617
It was mainly the first three. I've started pre-archiving them and using the same set of tags.
>>
>>32733617
There's a list of previous threads in the paste bin.
>>
>>32733694
You should use a Ryukuza Quest tag.
You're supposed to have a specific quest name tag as well as the Collective Game tag as the minimum.
>>
>>32733694
Could you not at least have kept the dragongirls tag? It's not used by any other thread in the archive.

“This is how it is, oujo-sama.” That makes her blink. “My power over Water has shorted every listening device, cameras....are you an exhibitionist? I sure hope so.”

“Wh....wha....”

“Nevermind. Yes, cameras. And also the tracking devices in your clothing, and in your....your key cards and jewelry. But the hard wired things will come on once they reset the breakers, but all the tracking devices still won't work. So we have to GO. Leave, quickly. Because the worst thing that can happen is us staying here.”

“They've been....really watching me?” Her voice is small, and fearful, and her eyes are wide. It doesn't take a genus to see how badly shaken she is. Actually, you're not sure if you are a genius or not. But that doesn't matter now!

“So, now you're going to pack exactly one small overnight bag, and we're going somewhere safe.” A secondary safe house first, then you'll take her to the real safe house after dealing with the inevitable corporate ninjas, paparazzi, stalkers, and probably Anonimous that seem to come out of the woodwork every time something like this happens.
>>
>>32733751
A quick trip to the kitchen supplies you with a large ziplock storage bag; this is taken into the bathroom, and you collect....HOLY CRAP, HOW MUCH HAIR PRODUCT DOES ANY ONE PERSON NEED??? Deep breaths, cleansing breaths....you collect the absolute essentials of a girl's needs (You clap your hands twice: “Thank you Kami, for not cursing us with human fertility cycles!”) and slip into the bedroom. The huge, inordinately pink and white and wood decorated bedroom with an-orgy sized bed with as many stuffed animals on it as you have cousins. Kiki near the dimly lit closet, the tinted window providing barely enough illumination for your inhuman eyes to see by.

She has a dozen full outfits arranged and is clearly trying to decide between them.

“Small. Overnight. Bag. You can come back later or buy new ones. We have to go.”

“But....I really....Ryukusa-san....”

“I can always redesign your outfits....” you suggest, placing your hand on the hilt of your wakizashi.

“You WOULDN'T!”

“No, really, I'm awfully good. I don't have a professional.”

Her expression looks a little less alarmed and she studies you with renewed interest.

“Really, Ryukusa-san?” She steps closer and studies your outfit with renewed interest.

BA-DUMP.

The thudding impact on the inside of your chest isn't your heart – your Pearl, hidden under your breastbone, responds to that attentive, inquiring gaze with a visceral reaction that you've never felt before in your life. Not even when you first realized that you liked lilies has anyone simply looking at you given you that....that potent a reaction.

She steps closer and you clear your head, pushing your wakizashi sheath open with an audible ~click~. “On the other hand, right now you are literally betting your life on the fact that I won't cut my way through your wardrobe to make you select something quick and easy.”

Her eyes get steely and she rises to her full five-foot-three -inches. She almost looks intimidating. “You wouldn't DARE, Ryukusa-san!” That's....actually kind of a hot look for her.

A high pitched voice wafts from the next room as you give Kumatori-san your most vicious grin. “Nee-chan, have you seen my tamagushi? I thought I left it on the altar. Why are the lights out?” Kumatori-san looks towards the door, as do you, and a four-foot-nothing made out of clouds and red ribbons walks....no, ~prances~ out of the hallway. She's wearing white tabi but is only walking on her toes; she doesn't really seem to be bending her knees, making the walk into a sort of skipping motion. Dressed in a massive collection of white robes with red trim, you can see her head and almost nothing else. Even her sleeves are so large they obscure her hands entirely, leaving only tiny fingertips visible.

Her heart shaped face is taken up by a huge pair of eyes made from molten gold, eyes with slit pupils, and she sports a shock of red hair so bright it looks more like paint than hair. Four long but tiny braids extend from the back and a pair of thick, once-branched horns of copper extend from her head. Her leggings and sleeves even have red pompoms on them - a miko's ceremonial dress. She freezes, and slowly turns towards you, her golden eyes stern and wide, as if sensing the natural enemy of all dignity and decorum, despite your outfit and silence.

[XXXXXXXXXX] WHY CAN'T I HOLD ALL THIS CUTE!?

For a moment you think you must be hallucinating. No girl could possibly be this cute. You inhale deeply and taste tha air.

Huh, Kiki-san is a virgin after all. She certainly talks th – wait! That's a loli, not a shota! You can smell purity and preciousness off her! You must take home!

You and the Fire dragonette stare at each other for a long moment, Kiki looking between you and her sister. You slowly step to the side, then another step, slowly circumnavigating yourself closer. The Fire dragonette watches you, her eyes unblinking and huge, her slightly disapproving expression not changing in the least. She lifts one sleeve, and covers her cupid bow lips. Her tail is a delicate, slender thing with a line of fiery red fur along the spinal line, and a flat leaf-like paddle of copper and red and gold at the tip.

You stand side by side, looking at each other sidelong for a silent minute.

YOU POUNCE!

She squeals as you give her a huge hug from behind while giggling madly; she squirms and struggles, her hair exploding like mock flames, as you cuddle her. Finally she slips free/you let her go, feeling totally vindicated and utterly thrilled. You want one of your own now! Totally CUTE! “Can I have one, oujo-sama?!” Oh....pearls touching! How COOL! You could make one of your very own with Kiki!!!
>>
>>32734202
“What is THAT?!” demands the little miko-costumed dragonette of her sister, pointing at you.

Kiki, who can't even pretend to disapprove of your actions since she's smiling so broadly, Bows deeply. “Gomennasai, onee-sama. That is Ryuu Ryukusa, my body guard. Ryukusa-san, this is Kumatori Kiku, my sister.”

“Shinobi, actu-ONEE-SAMA?” You stare at the diminutive girl, who glowers at you with golden eyes so soft and liquid you could just die, her tail lashing back and forth wildly. She wasn't using the short version of onee-chan, she was calling Kiki her 'beloved sister'!

“I am two-hundred-and-eighty-five years old!” she announces petulantly, which really does absolutely nothing to lower her cuteness factor at at all. “Now if you will excuse me, I have a ceremony in half an hour!” She stomps out, fuming so violently that the candles in the living room all burst into flame. “WAH!”

You and Kiki look at each other and burst out laughing.

“SHUT UP!” The fire subsides instantly and you hear her bedroom door slam.

Then the lights come back on.

“Times up, Kiki-chan. We have to go.”
>>
>>32734224
She sighs sadly and quickly collects some clothing and a few treasures, and you lead her down to the car.

No one questions you or tries to stop you, despite your display in the penthouse, and you finally relax slightly now that you are in an Akari-approved vehicle and on the road. “We'll be going to a safe house for now, and then transferring to a secure location once we've dealt with the compromised security that will happen there. The real place is top secret, only me and my two assistants are aware of it. Not even Oba-chan knows.” You glance at Kiki, who seems thoughtful.

“About what you said....back there....”

“Hmn?”

“Is it true?”

[] Oh yes, and worse.

“Kiki....no, Kumatori-oujo-sama.”

Her eyes widen as you call her in the manner you call your precious people, your special people. It was a quirk, those triplicate titles, but now it means something, and even your most strident detractor, arch-rival, and all-around better0than-you-could-hope-to-be enemy knows it.

“I told someone I promised to protect my precious people. That includes you. I will protect you. I promised, them and myself. And now you.”

Her eyes are wide, shell shocked. Then they narrow as suspicious crowds to the forefront.

“But you have to know the truth. All of it.”

So you tell her. All of it. Everything, except the name that no one should remember, because it's just too dangerous. The tracking devices – all of them even the one in her upper breast. How you say the pain and fear in her pictures. Oba-san and Kumatori-sama's reasons for assigning you. How you're unnatural level of Jing make you more powerful than you should be. And about your ability to make her fertile, to fertilize dragonettes....fertilize her. What would happen if your pearls touched.

She lowers her head, thinking seriously, considering, her mouth tight and her eyes angry. You wait patiently for the inevitable explosion. The Kiki's face softens, her breath leaving in a perfumed sigh. Sadness overtakes her expression and it makes your heart absolutely ache for her pain.

“I'm sorry, Kiki You don't deserve this.”

“Domo arigato, Ryukusa-senpai.”

“Wh....wha....Uh....” FAILING HERE.

You sit up, and take a deep breath, and then turn to her, with as much dignity and earnestness as you can summon. “Irrahasime, oujo-sama.” Nothing of consequence. She smiles, gently, and her eyes meet yours, and you can feel it. Hearts, beating as one, the thudding of your pulse as it synchronizes with hers. The pulsing of your Pearl, the one under your breastbone, as it senses her nearby, senses Your Precious Treasure.

You stare at her sky blue eyes with your dark sapphire eyes. Her lips part in a small, delicate gasp as she feels it to, the pull, the need, the rightness of this. That she is yours.

Your heart beats heavily in your chest, everything you were about to say gone.

You lean towards her, her eyes closing as her lips part, soft, sakura blossom scent surrounding you.

“Stupid cosplayers.”

Every alarm in your head just exploded and killed at least three bystanders. “What did you say?”

The driver speaks up. “Sorry, ma'am, there's a cosplayer in the street.”

Kiki sits up, glaring at you for neglecting her.

“Turn off.”

“I can't ma'am, it's a straight away.” He presses on the horn, trying to get them to move. “Oh, stop waving your red sword at me you....”

Red sword?

"Run them down! That's an order!" Kiki's education may be incomplete and pathetic compared to yours, but her hands grab your left arm tightly. She recognizes it too Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, once called Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi, the real one. HIS sword!

“But ma'am....”

You know you will be reliving this moment many times.

The one time where your powers are near their weakest: against a weapon stolen from Water and Wood, that can command the Winds, wielded by a Demigod of Sea and Storms. If it had been made of Jade, there would be no hope.

Throwing up a Barrier protected the driver – he and his vehicle drive on, the mysterious cosplayer vanished, his car fine, and his passengers gone. The spiritual existence of the car, still speeding at HIM, being sliced in half, the passengers in the back seat, terrified, knowing death was coming for them. The real car will simply sputter, and die, the engine stalled forever as the true car dies an ignominious death of its own.

How shocked Kiki is when you grab her shoulder and shove her to the side with all the force you can muster! She slams into the door and the armrest, her eyes closing in pain and her breath a soft, soundless grunt. The tilt of her head down as she recovers almost instantly, her resilience so very enviable this very moment. The way her eyes open as you start to pull back. Your gazes meet, her shocked, tear-filled blue eyes wide. The sun falls between you as the blade cleaves through the roof and her eyes rise to meet it.

The blade passes between your gazes, her eyes following it down to your hand, your eyes closing. You're not fast enough. You knew you wouldn't be. So you do what you can: you pull all the blood away from your arm even as the blade passes through metal, glass, leather, silk, skin, muscles, bone. There isn't even any pain, just a cool sensation as the metal touches you. Your blood slides from your arm, your wrist turning white, the near-black ruby fluid slipping through the air between the remaining part of your upper arm and the two inches above your elbow, where The Grass-Cutting Blade has separated it.

Falling back against your own door, the blood surging into the stump and vanishing, you grab the flesh near the stump as hard as you can. You concentrate on staying alive as the two halves of the car scream on the road, slamming into a wall and into another parked car respectively. The last glimpse of Kiki you see before impact is her face, white with shock as you save her life by sacrificing your own arm. The half-car topples over, spilling you onto the ground. Fortunately, you planned your fall, and don't get yourself trapped.

You can keep the blood inside, but it takes effort. A cloth tourniquet won't help you – your inhuman heart will pump your blood out at a stupid rate. You hear HIM shouting something at Kiki and Kiki yelling back. So they're still talking – for now. You might be able to help Kiki, but if you're trying to stop the blood flow, you can't use any other power at all.

[] Confront HIM anyways. You may be able to talk HIM out of anything immediate.

You're still in the car, which has fallen over, trapping you underneath half of it. That's not actually entirely bad, it means that BASTARD isn't aware you're still alive. You're on the ground, curled over, gripping the stump of your arm with hand and mind alike, and you're going to cut a bitch.

You close your eyes and use your power to keep your blood inside your body. You can still hear them shouting and that bastard laughing, so oujo-sama is holding her own for the moment. You hold your hand in front of your chest, where you once would have clapped twice to call the spirits attention to yourself; this is all you can do now.

One hand clapping. Funny, really.

A soft, whispered prayer in the moment it will take to make sure you can fight your best, even one armed, is all you have time for before you do something spectacular.

“Ami-no-Horobi-no-Mikado, Emperor of the Rain of Destruction, Lord of the Abyssal Deeps of the Ocean, give your daughter the strength to fight HIM.”

You reach up and grab the two hairpins that keep your intricately knotted and tied hair up, and it collapses in a rush, falling straight and untangles and unwaved, as water will do. You take both pins and tab them into the base of your arm, just above the stump, burying the tips in your humerus, which you feel like laughing about not one bit. Then you bend them both, wrapping them around the stump of your arm. It takes you three tries to bend the silver dragon tipped pins entirely around the stump of your arm. Your power makes it a water – and blood – proof seal with you finally finish, and twist the twin dragons around so the sapphire eyes face out once more.

Releasing your power, not a single drop of your blood falls from the stump of your left arm.

And now it's fucking GO TIME, BITCH!

You hear Kiki shouting and HIM laughing, that bastard son of the Storm and Sea, Susano-oh. You stand up gesturing casually and blasting the car to pieces around you and flinging them for miles as the winds respond to your call. He – wait.

SHE turns, startled, and Kiki's jaw drops as you stand up, your hair flowing in the wind as the storms gather in your barrier. “Trying something new, Susano-dono? Couldn't be bothered protecting humans either?” The hate makes your voice carry, the very air obedient to your speech.

So it is with hi- ah, her. She's an adult, her red and very racy armor gleaming, the blood of a hundred dragonborn staining it. “I will not let this world be controlled by the likes of THAT,” she says while sweeping her sword at Kiki, whose hair is blasted back by the power of the wind the blade commands. Hi- HER voice very....well...fruity, actually. Weirdly pitched.

….oh....

Oh, this is too good.

“....really, Stormlord? Hormones? I mean, come on! Or is it steroids....wait...I get it! You're an ACTUAL demigod, not Susano-oh! You don't even KNOW how to put up a barrier!” While it may be true, you're still operating at a disadvantage. “Still....I suppose since I'm operating at a handicap, you won't get to brag about cutting me down.”

Susano's daughter is glaring at you, the long, deadly blade glimmering, the stroms above you both intesifying.

Yes. Susano'o found it inside one of Orochi's tails when he killed him. Kiki looks at you and stands up, her voice lost to the wind and the rushing water. Susano-oh's daughter takes a guarded stance, but does nothing more as you gather your Shen your spiritual life force, the power of your Elemental Self.

“Daughter of Susano-oh, enemy of my kind, wielder of Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi.” Your voice echoes hollowly throughout the Barrier, and she crouches lower, the blade rising a few inches.

“You would attack the wounded?” You flip her the bird with your nonexistent arm.

“You would cut down the helpless, the untrained?” You gesture to Kiki and a blast of wind surges at the slight gesture, but does not penetrate her guard; the blade will not let that pass.

“If so, then you will die.”

[X] Razor Wit and Cold Heart
[] Scales and Claws
[] Storm and Wind
[] Style and Sword

You stare at her, your eyes darkening, pools of blue as deep as obsidian and and black as your heart. You blood freezes, your mind clears. You feel, more than see the red meat of your missing arm turn blue and cold, the bone as clear and shining as sapphire. The sharp crack of your breastbone splitting as your Pearl rises is like a gunshot, the blue-black, mysterious gem fully a tenth larger than the last time you decided to kill someone in the coldest blood of all.

Kiki gasps and clutches her chest, her eyes filled with tears, her face pale with shock.

You feel nothing save a vast abyss of hate for the one who caused her to suffer this indignity, stole her from you, frightened her. Your shirt, your jacket are blasted apart and away from your Pearl as your hair floats in the unseen oceanic currents that surround you even here.

Susano-dono has no pearl, but you see a faint, luminous aura round her. She slowly stands, and you can see her own Shen gathering, silver turning gold, and then her armor crack, shifts, grows over her like living flesh. It becomes a suit of full o-yoroi armor, the mask more demonic than heaven the half-demon's. The sword does not change, does not partake in the power of the one who wields it. She pulls back, the Style and Sword of her choice clear and piercing.

Third is insulting her honor and pride, basically just saying 'yo mama be ashamed!'

You spread your arm wide, the other simply rising, leaving yourself open and vulnerable to her attack. You say not one word, but you can see her struck by the opening – the blatant, vibrant sacrificial offering you make for her.

She moves with the swiftness of a hideous storm and you merely take a single step to the side, letting the blade pierce your abdomen far below your ribs. With no pain, no passion, you are aware that the weapon has slid through your pancreas, nicked a kidney, severed vital arteries. But your power holds the blood within you, your inner oceans true and unbroken. You can feel her exult in her well struck blow.

You stumble, just a little, and you see her triumph, at your vanquishing...and then you cup the cheek of her armor, lightly, your eyes fixed upon hers.

You pity her.

Her ruby red eyes glance at you under the mask, horror dawning in her eyes as she realizes what she has done. She leaps backwards, drawing the sword from you, splitting organs and slicing flesh like it was merely paper. Only the faintest film of blood slides free with the blade, and you can feel your control slipping.

But now it is your turn, and she is in pain, emotional, yes, but it is pain. A single bead of blood drips from the wound, a trickle, but it is the evidence of your power failing you.

But you can make her feel worse than that by far.

[] Break Your Blade Upon My Flesh.
[X] Feel All That You Have Inflicted.
[] You Cannot Slay The Ocean.

You reach down with your remaining and and slip your gloved finger through your blue-black blood. The power of the ocean that lies within your veins, the pure opposite of chi, yin to its yang. Susano-oh's daughter takes a stance, her blade held sideways, ready to be brought up and around and then down, to cut from shoulder to hip crosswise.

Despite her weapon, despite her status, she is weak in the arts, and it is obvious. Without the power of the Grass-Cutting-Blade, she could never kill a spirit-child by herself. You step forward, fearless, uncaring, your bloodied fingertips stretched towards her.

“This is what you have done, Child of the Kami.”

For a moment, she seems to be confused, not understanding. You fall to your knees....you are spent. While your Shen is still strong, you have lost a not-insignificant amount of chi, and your power is required to keep you alive now; you can do no further harm.

But you see what Susano-dono has not, and you smile at her.

For her part, she shakes for a moment, then goes to one knee, her mind overwhelmed by Hell-alone-knows what. She screams in rage and towers over you, the blade rising high for a killing stroke. You smile beatifically up at her.

“Too late, Child of the Kami.”

She hesitate, her towering rage so mighty that she shakes even as she prepares to bring the Executioner's Blade down. Terrible form, really pitiable. You tilt your head toward the other half of the car, and she hesitartes, her hate of you overwhelming. But you remain where you are, helpless to defend yourself. So she looks, a quick glance....at where Kiki is no longer.
>>
>>32736134
That's not really merciless, it's not killing her or turning her into a zombie after all.

I agree with you somewhat though, if we do win she's going to have to try pretty hard to earn her redemption.
>>
>>32736134
As soon as the bitch goes down, we need to make sure our charge is alright, then we need to make sure we won't die from the damage we have taken so far.
>>
>>32736134
Our current fighting style won't actually kill her, but I'm totally fine with being merciless. Break her mentally and emotionally, warp her into being our bitch. Not one of our precious people, a servant with no real freedom of her own.
>>
>>32736180

Ame-no-Horobi-no-Mikado, don't let Akari die because you fucked it up. Don't let her die for you.

You try to rise, but merely manage to get one leg under you, half-kneeling, half-crouching. You place your hand over the wound; the trickle has become a steady, small stream.

Akari shouts over the wind and the storm, her power easily overwhelming both yours and Susano-dono's power. “Do you know what it means to have shouted before attacking?”

Confused, you blink at your imouto-minion's confusing words.

Susano-dono is equally perplexed.

Akari cups both hands around her mouth and shouts....

“That you blew it!”

You hurl yourself backwards, unthinking, reacting to the riddle before your conscious mind – what's left of it – actually deciphers what she's saying. Susano-dono, not being a dragonette and so desperately avoiding her true nature, and so desperately fixated on the power of the word doesn't get it at all.

Which is when the half of the building Akari threw high into the air crashes to the ground on top of Susano-dono.

It won't kill her by any means, not with the Sword and style art, but she's still buried under a stone building. And neither one of you are strong towards stone.

Heh. Stupid punk bitch got shown up by a schoolgirl throwing a house on top of her during a windstorm.

You start to fall over, and then Yui is there, and easily holding you up as Akari bolts in the opposite direction, away from the battlefield. “Kiku-sama is safe, aniki. I've got you. Just....don't let go.” Of your power, she means. And while you have to let go of the barrier and the forces of your Elemental Power, you can keep the blood and your organs from collapsing. This much you can manage for a few moments longer.

“Arigato, Yui-chan,” you murmur, as your consciousness slips away.

Huh, so now our protagonist is permanently crippled. Could we give ourselves a hand of water or unmelting ice? Either way, MAD respect for giving a quest protagonist immediate and permanent penalties, QMs are normally way too squeamish about that.

So wait, we permanently lose an arm based on a single choice that we really could not have possibly predicted, dealt by an enemy that we'd never encountered before and had no reason to know was there, and no possibility to avoid?
>>32736859
It's pretty fucking arbitrary though.
>>32736888
It is now 7AM. I took a nap before it started.
I am MAD AS FUCK at the FUCKING MORONIC SHITS that have been voting in this thread.
>>
>>32736798
The main votes were ""Initiate Barrier Combat" and "Point out Weakness and Dishonor" (by a one vote differencfe to the combat side). So Ryukusa did bost as best she could - she started the combat, but she didn't make the first move, and warned Susano-dono that she was being a stupid bitch.

But more important was protecting Kiki by keeping all Susano-dono's attention on herself. Remember, the main choice just previous was Kick-Ass and Confront, with Kick Ass wining by a wide margin. Anons definitely wanted to make that bitch own up for her trespasses.

And I do not blame them. They forgot I mentioned Barrier Combat was dangerous apparently. I tend to doubt they'll forget - Ryukusa-aniki won't.

We voted for an option where we push across the cut line to keep our ward away from the cut line. It wasn't arbitrary at all, we just thought were were fucking invincible, like most protagonists. We don't have that level of plot armor, though.

Umm.. yeah see, we lost the arm before we initiated barrier combat. 2, it was rather dickish of you to give advice on how to deal with every enemy of our level EXCEPT the type we were to face next. Honestly, it mostly seems dangerous because we have no idea how it works, even if we read the "totally optional" pastebin.
>>
>>32736765
>Barriers can be broeken through by main strength....which both oni-children and Stone dragonettes have in spades.

Sorry, XS, call me dense, but this still doesn't make sense.

Youy specifically say in your primer that a Barrier is basically "out of time" to the point that days inside one are minutes, maybe hours to anyone outside. And judging by your descriptions, this fight took maybe all of five minutes inside, or an eyeblink outside.

So two points:

- If we somehow managed to include the rest of our posse in our barrier straight from the beginning, why didn't we get the option tu just stall for time?
- If they were outside, how on earth did they manage to arrive to our help instantaneously?
>>
Okay, so 4 months. Let's go on an adventure to the magical place where they produce magical arms.
>>
>>32736919
Except most of the non-combat votes were combinations. Combinations of two near-identical options and one very similar one.

> They forgot I mentioned Barrier Combat was dangerous apparently

I didn't. But serioulsy, between "trying to talk to psycho girl with god weapon while seriously injured" and " stalling psycho girl with god weapon in a battlefield that give us a possibility while badly injured", the choice was obvious.
>>
>>32737017
Man, like I said, much respect for not giving us 'invincible protagonist' plot armor. I like that we lost that arm like that.

I didn't see if you already said, but when's the next thread?
>>
>>32736972
>We voted for an option where we push across the cut line to keep our ward away from the cut line.
We lost the arm BEFORE that vote. So fuck you.
>>32737017
So now we're expected to make in-character decisions based on out-of-character metaknowledge that exists only in archives of discussion ABOUT the quest, not even in the quest itself.
Okay.
>>
>>32737017
What actually happened with the barrier combat? Were there any 'correct' options?
>>
>>32736987
The time stall between the barrier and outside is clearly not constant.
And if a few minutes inside the barrier can be days outside, that means the two had more than enough time to get to the barrier and break in.

And this is a Quest of supernatural Yakuza. They play for keeps and don't pull punches. There were very little "good" options here, because our situation was pretty fucked from the start. It happens.

That being said, it would be helpful to be more clear on what the combat choices actually do. Because that was very unclear, I think most didn't expect the first choice to be a "take a hit".
>>
>>32737066
>We lost the arm BEFORE that vote. So fuck you.

Clearly, next time there's a vote of this type, everyone who wants to avoid combat needs to vote for all three non-combat options.
>>
>>32737148
The thing most here seem to be mad about, is the losing the arm. Which we had all necesssary info about to try to avoid. Just the majority draw a inaccurate conclusion from it.

The barrier combat thing was going to happen. She attacked us with a attack intended to kill us. Why the hell would she back out when she has achieved halfway exactly what she wanted ? Thats just idiotic. We had this fight comming the moment we left the apartment.

Retards going fore "Rule of Cool" choices instead of using their heads, and a QM that presents those few who actually try to think with too heavily obfuscated choices, making taking a decision an exercise in frustration.
>>
>>32737017

>>
>>32737295
>vaguely worded with zero hint that such a consequence would happen
Well, the choice did explicitly say that the sword is going to cut through the car, and that the sword was magic.
Losing an arm or other limb if we chose wrong sounds like a likely consequence when something like that coming down on our head.
>>
People just need to calm down. Stop caring so much about playing optimally and winning, start caring about telling a good story.

Yes, Barrier Combat was dangerous. Anon wanted to kick ass and take names, and they did, right up until they started dying from their injuries. If Ryukusa had not been injured it would have been much closer.

>>32737356

So there was basically no way to win, and about a third of the thread may as well have been a cutscene. Good to know.
>>
>>32737135
It's not really missing limbs, this mean we're a permanent cripple unless it's magic'd away or magic technology fixes it.

And I don't like it when a QM waves permanent crippling over our heads and then ducks out by explaining it away with technology or magic. When if that was the case it shouldn't have resulted in us losing the limb at all.

I'm going to let XS tell the story, but there is no good way to go about this from here in my mind. If it's ignored, then it was completely pointless to even have it in the first place, if it becomes a serious issue to the quest then the tone is sullied with cripple issues and I'm not sure I can find the same enjoyment knowing that every cryptic choice could result in losing another limb.
>>
>>32737369

>>
>>32737426
Seriously, your obsession with always having to get handed flawless victories is terrible. Getting into a sitatuion where you only get to choose between sacrificing yourself or someone else, is perfectly in-tune with the Yakuza/Bodyguard sceneario.
We got too chose how Ryukuza behaves in a bad spot, which is what this is about. Some people are just stronger than you. Its just unreasonable to expect all the strong opponents to wait until we are ready for them.
>>
>>32737429

Because, honestly, I'm not even mad at the MC losing an arm, considering how deadly my average RPG is, it's actually tame, but the combinaison of completely unclear "choices" and idiots not thinking before posting is really ruining this for me. To those angry about the arm:
People, what you need to get is that it was either the arm or Kiki. She would have been sliced if we didn't sacrifice it.
>>
>>32737276
>losing a hand not a big deal

This is the catch 22 of writing crippled characters. You can't ignore the fact that they lost that arm, but at the same time you can't draw too much attention to it because a crippled character shouldn't exactly be going on adventures, they should be trying to live their lives as best as they can with what little mobility they have left.

I would have preferred if we were just killed and then XS asked if we wanted to start the day over again. But that's probably asking a bit much.
>>
>>32737477
I dunno, XS said it was safer. I imagine we'd simply abandon individually, on either side, not going near the middle of the car. I admit it wasn't the clearest choice at the time.

>perfectly in-tune with the Yakuza/Bodyguard scenario
But not so much with the 'lighthearted dragongirls in love' thing, which is the goddamn premise.

> flawless victories
Thats not what I am saying at all, I just don't like arbitrary 'now you lose' bullshit.
>>
>>32737443

Of coure not:

> You're faced with half-Demon Richelieu. He somehow has managed to keep his half-demon nature a secret, except for you.

OMG LET'S CALL HIM OUT BEFORE EVERYONE, LOLZ!

That's the level of autism in this thread.
>>
>>32737356
So we can reatach the arm using surgery right? After all, reattaching forarms can be done IRL with no magic.
>>
>>32737470
Next time, let's call four different cars

And go on foot several hours earlier under disguise
>>
>>32737502
That's not really what I said at all. Fuck retconning (the only thing of consequence isn't one that people should be mad about anyway)

>>32737514
How about this: playing crippled characters is interesting and different, hence it's not a big deal to me as a reader. Obviously it changes things a lot for Ryukusa, but it's not like it changes our goal or most of our modus operandi, or how we interact with characters.
>>
>>32737511
>People, what you need to get is that it was either the arm or Kiki. She would have been sliced if we didn't sacrifice it.

That's the thing. Supposedly, if we just bailed, both of us would have been fine. But, I don't think many anons believed that. The one chosen sounded like the safest option for all parties to most anons.
>>
>>32737537
>Thats not what I am saying at all, I just don't like arbitrary 'now you lose' bullshit.

Except, we didn't loose.
>>
>>32737520
Kiki can't react fast enough to do that. That's why we had to push her out of the way.

XS said it was safer, but that doesn't actually make any sense given the situation as presented.
>>
All the scenes are based on a set of happenings described from the QTG thread this idea was born in.

The changes are determined by Ryukusa's attitudes, her element, and how she treats her people.
>>
>>32737566
>Supposedly, if we just bailed, both of us would have been fine. But, I don't think many anons believed that.
possibly because it makes no goddam sense physically.
>>
>>32737566
I didn't think it sounded like the safest for Ryukusa. I DID think it sounded like the safest for Kiki. I don't really see a problem with one option possibly keeping both safe (abandon) and one definitely keeping one safe, but putting the other at risk (push away), though the abandon one could have been clearer.
>>
>>32737471
So, if Ryukuza had said she didn't want to fight, but the demigod with the dragon-killing sword who is wearing armor painted in the blood of hundreds of dragonborn didn't want to listen and continued the fight, would you have accepted that as simply a time when talking just wouldn't work?
Or would you be complaining still that talking SHOULD have worked?

I'm asking this as a completely separate question from the issue of XS not going with majority vote.
>>
>>32737557
Does the magical yakuza own its own high tech hospital, because that's the only way we could do that. Even then it would probably ~mess with the flow of chi~ or something.
>>
>>32737356

Look, XS, my problem with the arm thing is this:

Most people felt that the only way to keep both of us safe was the option chosen. Bailing out of the car, which was supposedly the safe choice, sounded like it was abandoning Kiki.
>>
>>32737557
Not a terrible idea. But can we magic it into working?
>>
>>32737566
It was the safest to ensure Kiki survived. The other one could have saved both, but we couldn't know that, because Ryukusa couldn't know that. So we made a choice exactly on the basis the character would, which is exactly how it should be.
>>
>>32737335
>Thats pretty clear-cut.
Heh.

Yeah, I'm totally okay with us having lost the arm. We just thought we were invincible, and would definitely pull our arm back in time or something. I enjoy that this QM isn't pulling his punches.

Personally, I'm a lot more concerned about our internal damage than the arm. That might actually put an end to our fighting altogether.
>>
>>32737597
You're still dodging the actual complaints XS.
>>
>>32737576
Yeah, we did. Not total loss I'll grant you, but an unavoidable loss nonetheless.
>>
>>32737597
People's emotions are just running high.
The barrier vote was pretty dumb though, but that's unrelated to the hand-loss of course. The car vote wasn't really problematic to me, except that you REALLY shouldn't have said abandoning was all-around safer, and anons were probably not taking non-obviously-dangerous options seriously since you call it a light-hearted quest. Well, I still think the thread was light-hearted myself, but...
>>
>>32737562
>How about this: playing crippled characters is interesting and different

It's not what players signed up to play though.
Trying to change the dynamics of the quest mid-way because you think it'll be interesting and different might scare away a bunch of players who never asked for this, or didn't even vote for the option to become crippled in the first place.

If it doesn't change the dynamics of the quest, then once again it was a pointless change.

Really I think we should just re-attach the hand and move on with the quest because some drama over a hand isn't worth the quest self-destructing.
>>
>>32737576

If "being deus ex machina'ed out by your friends" is winning to you...
>>
>>32737626
The main issue is reattaching nerves, which use electro-chemical impulses. Ergo, get a lighting element surgeon who specializes in such reattachment.
>>
>>32737511
>it was either the arm or Kiki

So you're basically saying that the quest would have ended if we hadn't taken the choice of getting our arm cut off? Because having our ward killed off in a random encounter sounds like a perfectly reasonable outcome for a choice presented by the QM of a light-hearted quest?
>>
>>32737511
>>32737477
If that had been the chosen option, Ryukusa would have blown herself and Kiki out of the car with a hurricane-force gale (physically known to be more powerful than nuclear explosions). Kiki would have survived easily, and Ryukusa is immune to her own power.
The driver might not have survived, but she would have blamed Susano-dono.
>>
>>32737652
I rally don't see why QMs should have to stick so closely to their pitch (it's not like it was 'MC guaranteed safe from everything ever!') that something like losing a limb or the like should be off-limits.
>>
>>32737629
>Ryukusa couldn't know that

Well, we're supposedly good at observation even without our magic eyes activated.

>>32737639

>I'm a lot more concerned about our internal damage than the arm.

Oh god, I didn't think about that
>>
>>32737678
>Ryukusa would have blown herself and Kiki out of the car with a hurricane-force gale

THEN INCLUDE THAT IN THE FUCKING OPTION DESCRIPTION
>>
>>32737678
That really should have been a bit more obvious XS. It sounded like it was just 'Jump out the car, and pray!"
>>
>>32737576
>>32737537
It's not the fact that it's 'now we lose' bullshit we should be worried about

It's that we now have a permanent disability that will never go away. Ten threads from now we will still have it, a hundred threads from now we will still have it, and I don't think that's fair punishment in such a new quest to all the players who may pick this up in the future.

BPQ gets a pass on it because that happened in the finale of an arc with an established following. This sort of just happened. If it wasn't pointed out people may not have realized that it did.
>>
>>32737668
>random encounter
Just because you don't see it coming doesn't make it a random encounter.
>>
>>32737678
If that's what the option does, write that out! If you have a bunch of ambiguous choices you may as well just decide everything with a dice roll.
>>
>>32737597
I have two questions:

Will it still be lighthearted, arm or not?
And what plotlines are lost to us for good?
>>
>>32737678
Now, let's get to the other issue that some people have:
Most people seem to have wanted to try to avoid the fight.
You went with fighting.

1. Why did you do that?
2. Would Susanoo-girl have actually let Kiki and Ryukusa go?
3. Isn't a fight in the normal world just as dangerous as Barrier combat to the two combatants, ignoring collateral damage?
>>
>>32737539
>a bunch of cryptic choices that do not highlight what kind of penalties or actions are going to be taken with no rolls or any hints beforehand

>autism

You can go back to /qtg/ now.
>>
>>32737710
Is it impossible for you to consider that some people don't consider it a drawback or punishment, and instead a cool character-moment that is sure to inform future scenes in interesting ways? I fucking love it myself.
>>
>Wood. You have the power of the weakest element at your command....which means you can slice shit up with a wooden sword, regenerate nearly any injury.

Kiki was in no danger. But Ryukusa thought she was and acted appropriately.
>>
>>32737659
Since they were called for by us, its not a deus-ex-machina.

I don't get why people here expect the NPC's to be less proactive than the PC. If they would have been the Demigod-girl and had the mission to kill Kiki, they would have done it exactly like that too, and wouldn't have called bullshit on the opponent losing their arm in the process.
>>
>>32737711
Being completely unpredictable, having no prior indication and being of arbitrary difficulty, however, does.
>>
>>32737678
So we lost an arm for basically no reason other than picking a trap option out of several vague selections we couldn't anticipate the consequences of, and if we'd randomly picked something else we'd be fine. Wow.
>>
>>32737700
Because if losing the limb didn't change anything, it was worthless. If it DOES change something, then I don't see why people should declare it a light hearted quest when we just lost a hand from a random encounter on a single choice.
>>
>>32737764
No, it really doesn't. That makes it a 'surprise.' A random encounter is an arbitrary bullshit event that has no actual bearing on the plot as a whole.

This was absolutely not that.
>>
>>32737748
I'd have no problem with loosing an arm in an actual fight, that we chose. But, it happened because Anons tried to pick the safe option, but XS didn't make it clear enough that it wasn't.
>>
For fuck's sake, if the way we lost that arm is a game-ruiner for you, just leave. Stop following the quest. I'm going to stay and enjoy, but you guys CLEARLY aren't enjoying it anymore.

So just fucking go.

What the fuck?
>>
>>32737710
Honestly, since it is a "lighthearted quest", there is no reason to assume rule of cool won't let us simply fight without penaltys.
She can fight with the right arm just as well, its not like she was using both hands in the first place.
And the final word hasn't been said yet on wether or not it actually is permanent. Its just very hard to heal.
>>
>>32737795
The fact is, everything apparently just happened to fall into place to fuck us over in way we could not predict or prevent.
>>
>>32737678
That's nice, and horribly unpredictable. Anyway, we're going to wake up with our arm surgically reattached right?
>>
>>32737786
So if it changes something, that something HAS to be towards less light-hearted? What if the thing that's changed is it makes Kiki act more doting at times? What if it's a comedy-scene where Ryukusa keeps forgetting she only has one hand to eat with?
To me the quest is no more or less light-hearted than it was at the start of this thread.

>>32737796
I don't know about other anons, but while I wasn't expecting to lose a hand, I definitely didn't think it was the 'safe' option for Ryukusa.
>>
>>32737827
I very well might stop following the quest, but not after I make it very clear why I've stopped following the quest. QMs need feedback if they're ever going to improve.
>>
>>32737827
The problem is, a lot of people were excited for this quest.

I'm only angry, because I'm sad that I don't believe I can enjoy it any more, despite looking forward to it every day since it was confirmed.
>>
>>32737778
>and if we'd randomly picked something else we'd be fine
Or dead.
>>
>>32737860
Ryukusa was hired as a bodyguard, to protect Kiki from people who want to murder her. Meeting someone who wants to murder her is neither unpredictable nor arbitrary, its exactly what we are there for.
>>
>>32737872
Not until after I make it clear, I mean.
>>
>>32737884
Yay lighthearted quest.
>>
>>32737872

>>32737879
Fuck off anyway. You're just making MORE people miserable now. You're making the people who were TOTALLY OKAY with this pissed off because you won't SHUT THE FUCK UP.

I get it. The thread is ruined.

FUCK OFF.
>>
>>32737870
How about 'safest' then. The 'Abandon the car' one certainly didn't sound like a good idea when I read through the quest.
>>
>>32737870
>What if it's a comedy-scene where Ryukusa keeps forgetting she only has one hand to eat with?
You have an even more twisted sense of humour than I do man.
>>
>>32737884
And there's no way to know which means which!
>>
>>32737829
>Honestly, since it is a "lighthearted quest", there is no reason to assume rule of cool won't let us simply fight without penaltys.

There was no explanation of the penalties beforehand, I don't blame any person who voted the way they did because the options were not sufficiently described or explained beforehand for us to know that it would end the way it did.

I totally voted for getting the fuck out of the car, and initiating barrier combat, but I'm not going to hold a petty grudge against the players that didn't know the consequences of things that weren't explained before.

Which is why I think losing a hand over this is petty and puts a chilling effect on any new players the quest may get in the future: they didn't vote for it, yet they live with the consequences. If there are no consequences then it was meaningless. If there are consequences, then I'm not sure where "lighthearted" comes into play when we're apparently playing on dark souls difficulty where not understanding the exact intent of the QM is grounds for losing body parts.
>>
>>32737912
And 200 posts of non-stop bitching is exactly what a mistake of this magnitude deserves.
>>
>>32737912
I like how the people complaining about the people complaining are much ruder and more assholish than the people trying to give feedback.
>>
>>32737900
We had a briefing on who to look out for. Susano-o's daughter was not among them. She had no way of knowing where we would be. There is no decision we could have made to avoid this, because it was never indicated, and every choice we picked should have made it less likely to occur.
>>
>on the arm
Remember, "it can be fixed, but it won't be easy" DOESN'T MEAN "you are fucked forever"
>>
>>32737745
1; Initiate Barrier Combat had the most votes at the time I stopped counted, which was when I posted no longer counting) and two other people got their votes counted at that time (one more 'initiate combat' and one more 'point out what n ass Susano-oh was being').

A that time here were the votes:
[XXX] Talk her down. She's hesitating. She may reconsider.
[] Talk her up. Make her attack first. See if she has any Barrier Combat knowledge at all.
[XXXXXX] Point out how helpless Kiki is, how wounded you are. Honorless worms wouldn't assault you.
[XXX] Challenge her to a duel at another date, after you've healed. Susano-oh would do it.
[XXXXXXX] Initiate Barrier Combat.

So Ryukusa initiated Barrier Combat, told Susano-dono she was being an honorless, vindictive person, and that she could relax or die.

2. Susano-dono was there to kill Kiki - not Ryukusa, just Kiki. Ryukusa directly showed herself as the greater threat. Susano-dono reacted to the threat the way a brick-headed swordswinger dies.

3. Yes but the combatants can't use nearly as much magic to attack or defend. It just doesn't work as well because their human bodes and natures interfere. And humans get scared and start shooting at the monsters. the Kami granted Barrier Combat to avoid those difficulties.
>>
>>32737870
>So if it changes something, that something HAS to be towards less light-hearted?

It's not the act of losing the hand, it's the act of the consequences that were put onto what was otherwise a singular choice that it's clear most of the players didn't understand the intent of.

That's what makes it go from light-hearted slice of life antics to "Holy shit if we fuck up even once we could be faced with permanent consequences or quest ending ramifications" that ruins the atmosphere of the quest.
>>
>>32737912
I'm personally not going to stop complaining until OP actually answers some of the complaints directed towards him
>>
>>32737970
Yeah, I figured it'd get fixed eventually.
>>
>>32737946
I think everyone just needs to calm down. Nothing productive is happening anymore, we're just going in circles.

It isn't nearly as world endingly catastrophic as some people are making it out to be. The tone hasn't been impacted at all, given the general reactions of the characters.
>>
>>32737927
I really honestly don't understand the logic of this.
I see no way in which "holding your arm out" when someone is about to cleave the car in which you sit in two, is going to result in anything less then losing your arm. How would that even work ? It is pretty obvious, if you hold your arm into an incoming blade, it gets chopped off. It even expleicitly says that you shove Kiki into her corner, and the blade is probably come through the middle, exactly where your arm will need to be.
>>
Okay XS, fixing this is very simple.

Just let Kiki regenerate our arm. She's a wood dragon, she can do that now. Bam, problem solved, light-hearted atmosphere restored, everyone's happy.
>>
>>32737946
This. I'm sorry if, as one of those for whom this is an issue, I'm coming off as some autistic asshole.

I'm trying to understand why XS thought this was a good idea, and how this is supposed to stay the same quest now.

Especially since these

make it sound like its solely the players' fault.
>>
>>32737982
Losing an arm in a badass sacrificial way in a fucking lighthearted quest is not 'Oh god we're trapped in dark souls now'
>>
>>32737993
Then you'll probably complain forever like the fucking prick you apparently are.
>>
>>32737982
But that only holds true if you consider losing a hand to be some huge thing.
I see nothing wrong with the idea of playing a one-handed protagonist, so while I'll certainly be voting a little more carefully in the future, I sure won't hesitate to put Ryukusa's body on the line if I feel it's needed.
>>
>>32738017
Wasn't it stated that half's can't do that?

Okay, can I just point out something?

What people are complaining about right now is:

Are those the main problems?

I'm sorry for the shitstorm, XS.
>>
>>32737981
>can't use nearly as much magic to attack or defend.
Since we were using our magic to not bleed out, wouldn't it have been just as dangerous outside a Barrier where we wouldn't have access to most of our magic to keep us from bleeding out as well as trying to run with Kiki from the girl with the dragon-slaying sword?
>>
>>32737981

>>32738044
Not in the actual quest material, as far as I know. Only in the after-quest answer session, which means it's not technically canon.
>>

>>32738074
>ambiguous, unclear information

Hence the reason the shitstorm is happening right now. And a lot of people including myself asking XS to be less ambiguous in the future!
>>
>>32738074
The mistake is that the voting options were ambiguous and unclear, and lead to permanent consequences despite that. The players didn't make a mistake, XS did.
>>
>>32738065
He followed the two choices that had the most votes. Thats pretty okay, if people can't make up their mind as to what they want, then its just how it goes. And "Insulting the other as a honorless worm" is clearly not a choice that prevents combat. So both major choices went for agression.

>>32738091
Are you still on about this?

But we DID; it was completly obvious that when a sword was coming straight through the middle stretching your arm out through exact that space, its gonna get chopped off. It is completly obvious. I can see people complaining about the ambigous nature of the Barrier combat choices. But the "stretch arm out" choice was clearly putting us at risk to guarantuee Kiki
>>
>>32738176
Are you saying XS railroaded us into combat and if we'd taken any other option our charge would have been killed? You have to explain, then, why XS gave us 3 different noncombat choices and 2 combat choices.
>>
>>32738194
Initiate Barrier Combat had 6 voters, there were 7 voters for non-combat stuff (8 if you count the stupid 'kiss her' vote). Then 1 more for each added after your 'tallying' post.
>>
>>32738194
>Ryukusa doesn't know those things.
Except, You explicitly said in the story post that Ryukusa knew she wouldn't be able to pull back her arm.

Yet you didn't think to tell us that.
>>
>>32738050
>You get to be doted on by your minions and Kiki gets to take care of you as you rest. Yes, there will be love and cutes.
I don't see the problem.
>>
>>32738152
XS telling us Ryukasa's reaction to the arm next thread?
>>
>>32738208
"Attacking me now would make you an honorless worm." is a fucking different thing than "Come, attack me now, you honorless worm!" you illiterate cunt.
>>
>>32738232
But those other seven voted for completly different things, and insulting the honor of some half-kami, is not a non-agression choice, its pissing the other off and making them attack you instead of Kiki, which was exactly what happened.
>>
>>32738194
The Barrier stuff seems to be a miscount, and it had little long-term consequence, so I don't think it should be a big deal.

I WOULD say that the hand loss was poorly foreshadowed, between the focus on 'light-hearted' quest (I think it still is, but some anons take limb loss poorly) and the overly large focus on BARRIER COMBAT being dangerous, making people take non-barrier events less seriously WRT Ryukusa's safety. After all, it's not as dangerous, right?
>>
>>32738261
Oh would you look at those votes
Its almost like combat won
Its almost like by combining votes the Qm allows the winning vote to flavor the ones that didn't
You complete fucking autist
>>
>>32738200
No, what I am saying is that more posts said "Don't start a barrier fight" than said "Start a barrier fight" ergo the (admittedly slight) majority favoured the option that was not selected, that cannot be defended as 'going with the spirit of the choices' because it explicitly does the opposite.

Defending it with 'I operate on a first past the post system' would be valid. Dumb, but valid, but that was not what was said.
>>
>>32738194
I wouldn't have a problem with losing the arm, if you had actually told us we would.

>>32738305
Except, that wasn't the point of those votes. Every vote other than "Start fighting" was a vote AGAINST fighting.
>>
>>32738220
The choice was to push her away. We could have done it with wind magic rather than an arm. Like in >>32737678 where XS says

>Ryukusa would have blown herself and Kiki out of the car with a hurricane-force gale
>>
>>32738188
Perhaps they're glad she's still alive.
>>
>>32738134
Reattaching an arm would be a very difficult medical operation, lining up the nerves would be tough and probably result in some loss of functionality.
On the other hand, we have lightning halfdragons, so lining up the electro chemical nerve pathways is probably MUCH easier than IRL.
>>
>>32738274

>>32738261
Shut up with that stupid argument.
>>
>>32738241
After she pushed, yes.

A fire dragon could have done it easily and had time to comb her hair. A stone dragon would have just left her arm there. A wood Dragon would be able to reattach her arm.

Ever have had a moment of "I can make it, I can make it - oh, crap." ? Ryukusa did what she thought best given the situation. hindsight is 20-20.

(She's going to feel very stupid when Kiki gently points out her flawed reasoning.)
>>
>>32738194

Okay, XS, but in that case, why do you bother with choices at all? If we have no way to know the consequences of a choice, what's the point in making said choice? Why don't you just describe what the fuck happens, and ends with "Wat do/say?"
>>
>>32738328

No it wasn't it literally said :
>[] Straight-arm Kiki into the corner and pull back to your side!

Emphasis on "straight-arm" her.
>>
>don't start a barrier fight
There would've been fighting regardless.
>>
>>32738356
So, why didn't we use our wind powers to push her, like we apparantly would have to blow ourselves out of the car?

You're the one who wrote 'Straight-arm kiki' into the vote prompt.
>>
>>32738277
The hand-loss was not foreshadowed at all, and the whole 'unavoidably attacked by a demigod with a legendary sword' thing was a complete fucking asspull.
>>
>>32738356
Still not talking about the surgical reattachment. Please explain if it is possible, and if it is not, what justification you have for making it impossible.

Holy shit, are people STILL bitching? They're going to ride this thread off the board, aren't they?
>>
>>32738356
We're explicitly stated to have hyper fast reflexes, though.
>>
>>32738356
If Kiki is basically so fucking immortal that the legendary sword used to kill hundreds of part-dragons is no threat to her, why the fuck does she need us to guard her?
>>
>>32738356

Which I guarantee will set off a shitstorm again. Telling your players through the medium of their characters that they were being stupid for something they blame you for is a great way to piss them off.
>>
>>32738409
/tg/ doesn't take failure. Losing an arm is MAJOR failure.
>>
>>32738423
She's not. Nor is she immune to kidnapping. Where did you read that?
>>
>>32738399

In the majority of cases, you have a pretty decent idea of the consequences of your actions. Nothing is ever 100% previsible. But here, we don't even have the basic info on does it looks like a good or bad choice with the available info.
>>
>>32738356
Please answer the question about surgical reattachment. You can't just ignore it.
>>
>>32738194
>her twisted hyperactive brain
So Ryukuza literaly have a mental disorder? I thought she was just immature, impatient and couldn't keep in place due to her overwhelming life force.

>She doesn't even always get optimal choices

I accept that. But could you at least tell us the consequences Ryukuza think her choices can have?
>>
>>32738423
It doesn't say it not a threat to her, it says she could reattach an arm. Getting skewered or beheaded still kills her.
And we as player knew Kiki can do that, because it was said in the explenation for Wood-aspects in the very first thread.
>>
>>32738450
Apparently pushing her out of the path of the sword was completely unnecessary due to wood dragon regeneration.
>>
>>32738359
The choices matter.

Ryukusa's choice to sacrifice her arm for Kiki's life - regardless of her losing it or not or the actual danger Kiki was in - has an effect on Kiki. It has an effect on Akari's opinion of her, and an effect on Yui's opinion of her.

If she had abandoned the car, Kiki would have been startled, safe, and Ryukusa would be whole and safe, and Kiki's opinion of Ryukusa would have changed very little. Akari would not have seen how incredible aniki's willpower was, staying alive against SUSANO-DONO. Yui would not have seen how her new mistress is willing to do ANYTHING to protect those under her care.

The choices matter - whether the players see how they matter or not at the time the choice is made.
>>
>>32738423
Fort Knox would survive a direct hit from a nuclear weapon, yet people still guard it.
>>
>>32738409
Well, it's post-session so it can't be helped.
>>
>>32738483
Ryukusa saw her precious person in danger and didn't give a fuck about wood dragon regeneration.
>>
>>32738484
Okay, and the surgical reattachment? You say you want write ins, here is a write in that will be much more difficult to re-implement by the time we regain consciousness. Will you implement it?
>>
>>32738480
So we tried to talk it out inside the barrier. I simply don't see what the bitching is about.
>>
>>32738481
Right, but she could just as easily have gotten the sword through her head as through an arm, so it's bullshit to say that it was unnecessary unless she could regenerate anything that it could have done to her, which is what has explicitly been said.
>>
>>32738484
Except, you didn't give the players enough information to see that abandoning the car would be the safest choice. You wrote it in such a way that pushing Kiki away was the safest choice.

Its better they bitch it out of their system here, where it doesn't matter, than that we spam the next thread with this discussion.
I'm sure next thread we will get cuteness and our Minions doting on Ryukusa and everyone will be happy for having taken the impressive smile-protector choice. Instead of the "I'm gonna risk my charge because I don't want to rik myself" choices.
>>
>>32738533
Because, those other options were AGAINST fighting right now, right here. Yet, XS forced us to fight anyway.
>>
>>32738450
Well, not this anon, but according to XS she can take an hurricane in the face and not be injured.
>>
>>32738483
>Hmmm, someone's aiming a gun at the President. Meh, he's wearing a flak vest, he'll be fine
>>
>>32738484
Yeah, the issue is more clarity.
Although to me, it's less that the specific choice in the car was unclear as to its potential effects, but rather it was unclear what kind of risks were around in the first place.
Between your light-hearted mantra, emphasis on danger in Barrier Combat (making other situations seem far less risky) and the ridiculous ease of the 'test' we had, as well as the simple fact that this was a seemingly random encounter for which we had no reason to expect serious danger anyway, it was REALLY not at all obvious that anything could go bad for Ryukusa until an eventual Barrier was set up. For Kiki, maybe, but not Ryukusa. If that kind of danger was already established, I don't think the options regarding how to handle the car-scene would have been too bad.
>>
>>32738553
And surgical reattachment?
>>
>>32738553
Goddamn it, XS.

You're still ignoring half our questions and concerns.
>>
>>32738553

Hopefully if anons still have issues they wait until end of session again.
>>
>>32738484

I can live with that, but I will reiterate: make it more clear with your descriptions what Ryukusa believes the consequence might be. Because right now, we could just as well roll a dice to pick one, so obfuscated it is, and it is EXTREMELY frustrating.
>>
>>32738483

Thats exactly the point. The QM pointiung out in hindsight that it would have worked out, doesn't mean the initial choice wasn't well founded, we don't know what the Qm knows, nor should we. We only should know what the MC knows.
>>

Not likely. Waiting till end of session got us shit this time.

>>32738484
>The choices matter - whether the players see how they matter or not at the time the choice is made.
That is why people feel its arbitrary though, because your not presenting the choices, your presenting vague hints at the choices. Yes, people don't know explicitly what the result of an action would be, but the generally at least know what action they intend to take when they choose to take it.

Also are we eventually going to get an explaination of how Susano knew to cut us off at the right time somewhere that we didn't even know we would be two minutes earlier?

Only in retrospect, that was not successfully communicated to the players.
>>
>>32738686
One thing I was wondering.
If we'd picked other choices in the Barrier fight, could we have won? Or at least lasted longer. It wasn't really clear to me if we lost because we picked Feel All That You Have Inflicted, or if we would have run out of juice (so to speak) at that choice either way.
>>
>>32738560
>We get to add all the votes together for other options cause its what I want

Might. Might have worked out, and frankly half the problem is that that makes it sound like XS is crowing about it.
>>
>>32738724
Okay, here is one you missed. Surgically reattaching our arm, which is possible though difficult IRL, much less in this world with an electricity powered being helping with nerve reattachment, which is by far the toughest part of the procedure.
>>
>>32738720
We were, at character gen, if I recalled correctly.
>>
>>32738724

Well I did ask for more clarifications on how exactly barrier fights work, but it is something we can work out another time. Maybe we should plan a couple of training sessions with our minions in order to get better at it.

>>32738261
>>
>>32738672

Surgical reattachment: Not very likely.

1: All the blood was removed from the limb (because it could be used to stay alive since Ryukusa is Water based).
2: Such surgury is difficult for someone who isn't fully mortal - their spirit is as much of their form as their body.

3: I have stated powerful magic is beyond that of half-breeds and that half0breed magic cannnot help her- and there have been hints that at least two beyonf that power exist (Jinyuu-onee-sama has more Jing that Ryukusa, and Hinata-san of the Shrine has been mentioned several times).

Yes, it is. Reattaching a limb is a race against time. Some types of injuries HAVE to be fixed quickly, so doctors take shortcuts that would get them shot if they were to try it with your wrist. Its basically battlefield medicine, which is a whole different beast than what you went through.
>>
>>32739025
The literal attaching is done fast. But afterwards you still spent a considerable amount of time in sleeps, and then some more time on medication.

Akari, Yui, Kiki, and Kiku will prove it to her.
