You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

You were invited to come over to Nicolette's place for dinner... but sadly, it isn't until tomorrow.

Currently, you're on the way to the library to have a quick magic lesson with Sylvie.

>Congratulations, you are now a timid LLAMA!
>Llamas are strong and hardy... but also rather skittish.
>The Princess considers you to be her friend!
>But while llamas may be majestic, they still don't count as people.

"Hey, Sylvie!" you call out as you race down the hallway after her. "Wait up!"
"Huh?" Sylvie turns around just as you finally catch up with her. "Oh... you didn't have to run, you know. We -are- going to the same place."
"Yeah, but I didn't want you to think that-" you sigh. "....never mind."
"You're really weird sometimes, you know?"

Once you catch your breath, the two of you resume walking to the library.

"It really is nice to be back home where it's safe..." Sylvie says.
"You can say that again," you nod.
"My mother nearly lost it when I told her exactly what went down during that attack the other day," she sighs. "And then she blew up at UNcle Thierri for putting me in danger... I told her that it wasn't his fault, and then she went off on my father for letting it happen through his not being there," she shakes her head.
"Uh... she sounds really protective of you."
"Oh, she is," Sylvie nods. "I get more leeway since I'm older, but she's really strict about where my little sisters are allowed to go and who they're allowed to be around."

"Though that's mostly because Racquel's a pervert and Mom's scared that she'll run off with the first guy she finds who isn't creeped out by her," Sylvie says, rolling her eyes.
"Yeah, I can understand that," you say with a nervous chuckle.
"Still, though... that whole scary incident made me realize how much further I have to go. I'm gonna need to work a lot harder if I want to be able to get on my father's level..."

"I know you've said that his magical reserves are so huge that just casting Spirit Field encased him in solid rock, so umm... how exactly is anybody supposed to ever catch up with a guy THAT strong?" you ask.
"Eheheh... I don't expect to get -exactly- as strong as him, I just want to be on the same level as him one day, you know?" Sylvie shrugs. "To be strong enough that I'd never have to worry about getting hurt."

She makes it sound like he's invincible or something.

"How'd he get so strong, anyways?" you ask. "Is it just from being huge?"
"Umm..." Sylvie scratches her head. "...luck, I guess? Uncle Thierri and Uncle Raoul first met him when he beat up a bear that was trying to eat them when they were out travelling in the woods one day, so he was always really strong... he must've done that just with his bare hands, since it wasn't until later that they taught him magic."

She's definitely proud of her old man, that's for sure.

"Started out a wildman in the middle of the woods, and then he ended up marrying a princess..." Sylvie says. "Pretty good, huh?"
"Yeah, I'd definitely say so," you nod. "Uh..."

And then you reach the library. Just as Emilio and a very wet Karel are leaving.

"Hey," you wave to them. "Did something happen?"
"Umm, good evening, Reinhold," Emilio says with a weak smile. "We were in the middle of a magic lesson, and..."
"And I screwed up," Karel mumbles. "Made a field of raindrops around myself and then lost concentration and ended up drenching myself."
"Oh, so that's what the towel's for," you say.
"Are you going to be okay?" Sylvie asks. "I mean, I can dry you off right now if you want... just take off that towel and I'll-"
"No, it's fine," Karel shakes her head. "I'll just go and change my clothes..."
"Seriously, it's no trouble at all for me to-"
"Let it go," Emilio shakes his head, "He's in a pretty bad mood now, not that I can blame him."

"Oh..." Sylvie mumbles, a guilty look on her face. "Sorry to bother you then."
"It's fine," Karel sighs. "I should have been more careful to start with."
"I guess we should probably let you go before you end up catching a cold or something," you say, stepping aside for the two to get by.

As Emilio and Karel walk past you, you notice that Karel's blushing slightly... and looking at the way that the bits of clothing that aren't covered with the towel are sticking to her, you can definitely understand why.

And so, the two of you enter the library... just in time to see Gerhard mopping up water over in the corner. It's probably not the best idea to bother him.

"How about Fragment Blader?" you ask.

That was what you were going to learn on -that day-, after all.

"Alright, I can do that," Sylvie nods. "Nicolette has her pendant for Fragment Lancer that she got from her father, and the only spell that Uncle Thierri is any good with is Fragment Tomahawk..."
"So now I'll be the one with the sword variant," you say.
"I guess so," she nods.

After flipping through another book that was left on the table (maybe by Gerhard?), Sylvie writes something on a piece of paper before turning to you.

"Umm, you do know that the swords that this spell makes are pretty crude, right?" Sylvie asks.
"Yeah," you nod. "I mainly wanted to learn it just in case I get disarmed or something."

"So, umm..." "S- sorry, you probably don't even care about stuff like that."
"I'm actually in the middle of reading a book about him," you reply. "Prosegana, I mean."
"Oh, really?" her eyes widen with surprise. "Oh, but I probably spoiled something... J- just forget what I just mentioned and let's get to work!"

After looking it over a final time, Sylvie hands you the paper that she had been writing on.

"Here's the incantation," Sylvie says. "Even though Fragment Blader can't make anything really high-quality or anything, it does have a lot of variation. Swords, knives... pretty much anything with that basic shape."
"So I'd be able to make stuff like throwing knives once I get a hang of it?" you ask.

Picking up the paper that Sylvie gave to you, you look over the incantation that's written on it.

"Come to my aid, oh beast of steel. Place within my hand the sword of kings, and let us rend asunder all which stands before us."

Well that at least -seems- to be pretty straightforward.

"The 'beast of steel' part refers to Prosegana, who was made of metal," Sylvie says. "Though you're reading the book and all, so you already knew that."
"Yeah, I figured as much."
"And the 'sword of kings' part is where you can vary the type of weapon that you make... but you should probably just focus on making a sword for now."
Gotcha."

Sylvie gets up from her seat and takes a few steps away from you.

"...make sure to position the hand that you're going to try and materialize the sword in so that you'll be able to catch the thing when it appears," Sylvie says. "I don't think that Mr. Gerhard ould appreciate us gouging up the library floor, after all."
"Alright," you say as you rise to your feet.

Take a few steps away from anything that might accidentally get stabbed... hold out the hand that you want the sword to appear in so that you won't have to worry about stabbing yourself...

"Come to my aid, oh beast of steel," you chant as glowing red Script flickers into existence around you. "Place within my hand the sword of kings, and let us rend asunder all which stands before us."

"Fragment Blader!" you shout, invoking the spell.

A small sphere of metal appears from nowhere and floats just within you grasp before stretching out in the shape of a crude hilt. Figuring that you should probably catch it before you end up with a sword embedded in the floor, you take hold of it just as a blade begins to form...

Almost as if it was a living thing, metal sprouts from the hilt that you're holding in your hand and stretches out into a long stalk. You actually feel your arm tensing in order to support the weight of the weapon as it continues on and on, not stopping until it's nearly five feet long. From there, you watch in awe as the metal flattens and hones itself into a fine edge... though you do notice the odd chipping here and there.

While this seemed to be going in slow motion for you, this entire process took place within the span of a few seconds... and now you're holding an extremely large sword in your hand.

"Oh wow..." Sylvie says, staring at the newly-created sword in your hand. "It certainly is impressive, especially for a weapon created with Fragment Blader... but isn't that kind of, umm, unwieldy?"
"I was just trying to focus on making as good a sword as I could," you reply, "but yeah, this is kind of really heavy."

As you check the weight and handling of the sword that you just made, you notice that its balance is kind of... well, it's pretty awful to be perfectly honest. Not to mention that the handle is just a piece of metal with no covering, which would be pretty rough on your hands in a prolonged fight.

But then again, this spell is only meant as a temporary stopgap. And you think that this is pretty good for a first try!

"So what do you think?" you ask.
"I think that I'm definitely happy that my little sister isn't here to see that..." Sylvie mutters under her breath. "...but you did really well, Reinhold!"

You spend the next hour trying to memorize the spell so you'll be able to use it at will. You also practice casting it a few more times, but both you and Sylvie are rather worried about creating a ton of many junk swords that someone would have to deal with so you limit yourself to just five castings.

"I guess that's it for today, then..." Sylvie says as she gathers her things together.
"Thanks for the help," you reply. "Now I have one less thing to worry about."
"And you don't have to worry about those swords, I'll take care of those," Gerhard says, appearing out of nowhere.
"S... sure," you say with a weak laugh. "Now that's two less things to worry about."

With that, you and Sylvie leave the library and part ways...

Karel looked kind of shaken up when you saw her earlier... it might be a good to see how she's doing.

But then you remember that you never actually bothered to find out where her room is.

After asking the closes maid (who was very spooked by you speaking to her), you were successful in procuring directions to your fellow bodyguard's lodgings and head straight there.

technically greg (and arian) probably has enough skill with fragment blader to make practice weapons relatively close to both our swords for us to use, but i still want a "oh i'm sorry elena, i forgot to bring practice weapons to fight with. i guess we'll just have to use something else" and then fight with pillows and watch as the massacre is joined by elena, greg, nico's brothers, and anyone else that wants in
>>
>>32728682
depends what they're made out of. most bird feathers probably count as wind, but waterfowl like ducks and geese may count as water, and then there's the exotic shit this world has

I was skeptical at first but I can see how that might be amusing.

"Well it -is- the job of a big brother to take care of his little sister, you know," you say with a toothy grin.
"Dumbass..." Karel shakes her head in exasperation. "Now I regret saying that in the first place."
"Well you know," you shrug, "assuming that I don't do anything that'll result in Luciana murdering me and you and Emilio actually wind up together, the two of us would actua-"

And then she punches you in the side before you can finish your sentence.

"You can just leave now if you're gonna keep telling those shitty jokes," Karel says, glaring at you.
"Sorry," you reply, reeling back in pain.

Yeah, that's probably enough fooling around.

"On a more serious note," you say, "are you and Emilio going to be heading over to Sir Gregory's place tomorrow night for dinner?" you ask. "If you were, then maybe the two of us could have a little sparring match while we were there, I'm sure Elena would love to see that."
"I bet she would," Karel replies, "but we're probably not gonna be there."
"Huh? Why?"
"Emilio hates big events and stuff so he told Sir Gregory that he wasn't going to be coming," she sighs. "I told him that it doesn't count as a big event when pretty much everyone there will be family except us bodyguards, but he said that he'd rather hang out here."

That definitely is disappointing to hear.

"He doesn't listen to me since I'm just his friend," Karel sighs, "but you're like... a cool older brother figure or whatever so maybe you could convince him."
"Might be worth a shot," you reply. "Also, would you maybe be willing to go out for a quick spar tonight?"
"It's WAY too late for that right now," she shakes her head. "And I'm already in my pajamas, as you can see. I'm not going back out there until morning."

Talk a bit about how it's kinda nice to get to be a big brother and worry about people instead of a little brother with Citrine worrying about us.

And part of me wants to ruffle Karel's hair as part of this despite the fact that she'd probably get annoyed if we did it.

You're kind of tempted to challenge Karel to a pillow fight right now, but she'd probably just punch you again if you brought it up. As such, you decide that now is the time to finally head to your own room.

"Well then I guess that I ought to call it a night," you say.
"Oh, so you're leaving already?" Karel asks.
"What, you wanted me to stick around?" you arch an eyebrow. "because I could always change my mind and-"
"No, it's fine," she sighs. "Get the hell out before you get some kind of weird idea like a tickle fight or something.

That's a bit much, even for you.

"Quit trying to adopt me, you weirdo," Karel mumbles as her face starts to go red.
"What, I'm trying to be serious here," you shrug. "This is nice, and I'm happy that you guys are staying here in the castle," you say as you ruffle Karel's hair.

Surprisingly, she doesn't hit you.

"Y... you know," Karel mutters as you continue to mess up her hair even further, "you're like the most frustrating person I know."
"I shall take that as a compliment," you reply, finally drawing your hand back so that you can head for the door. "See you tomorrow, 'little sister.'"
"C- cut that shit out already!" Karel shouts as she chucks a pillow at you

But you duck out of the room before it can connect.

>"you're like the most frustrating person I know."

Considering Emilio and Alicia that's really saying something.
>>
>>32729190
Emilio's pretty easy to get along with when he isn't moping about, and Karel loves her mother way too much to really be bothered by her eccentricities.
Reinhold, on the other hand, completely throws her off. She's not used to dealing with people that act like him.
>>
>>32729207
>She's not used to dealing with people that act like him.

Really, is anyone?

Reinhold's even thrown people who are professionally inscrutable.
>>
>>32729170
>[3/3]

With the night's work of bothering people at an end, you make a beeline for your room and head on inside. With a sigh of relief that everything's where it should be and nothing else of yours has been destroyed, you undo the two swords from your belt and prop your sword against the wall by your bed.

After doing a few idle sketches to relax (more like random scribbles to be honest), you finish the day by doing a few light exercises and dumping away the rest of your magical reserves before falling on your bed and immediately losing consciousness.
>>
>>32729230
ITT: Reinhold takes a magic dump.
>>
>>32729229

The only thing Reinhold can't throw off is a sword.

>She's not used to dealing with people that act like him.

How should we qualify them?
>>
With the in-game day over, I shall end the thread here.
I wasn't expecting to write any goofy cutesy stuff tonight, so thanks for that I guess. The Reinhold has firmly entrenched himself in Karel's mind as the "annoying not-brother" figure.
Just a note, the next in-game day will open with an Elena thread.

I'll be running on Thursday night, though I haven't decided if it'll be Princess Guard or False Dendrite... whatever I don't end up running them will be going on Saturday night since I won't be able to stay up late on Friday.

Taking questions until I go to sleep, as per the norm for this past week.

And thanks for playng!

Once we finally get around to telling her our background I'm guessing Reinhold will make more sense to her, aside from her inevitably wondering why he isn't bugfuck insane.

I don't think she quite understands how seriously he is going to take his new found status as a big brother.

It would be kind of sad for Reinhold. He's such a people pleaser and so many would be irrationally afraid of him just because he's badass.

Gregory seems like he's a bit of a loner anyway. Reinhold isn't.

does that mean Gregory will become the crazy old mage in the mansion outside the castle the hot wife

Marianne: LLAMA RANK
Sylvie: Trying to keep him as a friend even she can't have him as a boyfriend, still wants him though.
Nicolette: Best friend who isn't Sylvie, still kind of likes him but is happy with Melanie.
Luciana: Future husband/adventuring partner
Melanie: A pretty good friend.
Rana: A pretty nice guy, would make out with.
Elena: AWESOME FUTURE BIG BROTHER
Karel: Annoying not-brother figure, would punch but is still nice to have around.
Racquel: qt3.14, would ship with the entire male population of the country
