Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread your lungs melted, you woke up riding a giant lizard, and then you read some books.

You tuck your book into your cloak and push yourself to your feet. You have to throw your arms out wide to stabilize yourself as the massive beast you ride continues to lumber on. You have to admit, the view from way up here is impressive. You can see past most of the low hills and sparse woodland, allowing you to observe the full breath of this region. You can spot the bright glow of the city in the distance, the tower at its heart climbing towards the night sky. A flock of birds catches flight, fleeing an area of the forest where you think you can pick out the back of a hulking beast tearing through the trees. Glancing up towards the sky you note that there are finally stars piercing through the golden haze of city light, though they're different from the stars of your homeland. You don't recognize any of the constellations.

You're distract from your survey of the surroundings by the sound of Profectus' voice. “Mik, catch.” Is all the warning you get before a suit of armor hits you in the chest. You very nearly go stumbling off the side of the lizard, but fortunately you catch yourself before falling off. You pick up his Optio armor and stuff it into your cloak, shooting Prof a glare. “Damn it, Prof! My balance is a little precarious. Do not go chucking your laundry at me out of the blue.” He waves you off. “Relaax, Mik! Not like a fall from this height would kill you. Unless you landed on your head I suppose. Anyway-” He pauses, digging into bag and withdrawing the pressure cooker he'd found. “-catch. Heard you were going to be cooking and I am completely finished with stew.”

You catch the pot with a little more grace than you did the armor and make your way across the back of the lizard to the widest point on its back, the area just between the shoulder blades. This ought to provide you some stability to work. “Prof, come here and show me how this works.” As Profectus makes his way across the back of the lizard to join you, your host ask a question. “So why do you call him Prof? Is he a teacher or something?” You shake your head. “No, he's just-” Profectus interrupts. “A thousand year old amnesiac elf soldier. Only word I could remember when I woke up was 'Profectus' so that's what I called myself.” Your host speaks up again. “You named yourself 'Success'? That's a little narcissistic.” You laugh, though Prof just huffs moodily. “The meaning of the word slipped my mind, sorry for being disoriented after a thousand years of sleep. What's your name, anyway? What gives you the right to be so critical?” Your host pauses for a short while before answering. “Out here in the badlands, it's considered bad taste to use one's actual name. Most people just call me Skull Kid. On account of-” He raps his knuckles on his metal helmet. “-the headgear.”

The three of you make light conversation while Profectus introduces you to the operation of a pressure cooker. Apparently the little black knob is actually a weight sitting on top of a valve for the steam, and it will jiggle and make noise once the right pressure is reached. Once he's finished going over the basics you unseal the latches keeping the pot closed and gently remove the lid. Inside there is a metal basket small enough that there is space for water between it and the walls of the pot. You remove it as well and use just a tough of water magic to fill the pressure cooker with water. That done, you reinsert the basket and dig a hand into your cloak to retrieve some ingredients.
(2/3)
>>
As soon as you push your hand into the cloak you find something thrust into your open palm by the ethereal tentacles of Ricky. Pulling it out, it's a small collection of dried tomatoes wrapped in a cloth rag. You dump them into the pot and reach back in, retrieving a salted hunk of beef. It's slightly too large to shove neatly into the pot so you withdraw your dagger as well and quickly slice it into smaller pieces. You end up with a pot full of mushrooms, beef, dried tomatoes, dried flour noodles, onion, and a few pinches of various herbs. Honestly, you didn't even realize you had all of this stuff in your cloak.

You seal the lid once more and are about to begin channeling fire magic to heat the pot when Darzi beats you to it. Flames lick up from the base of the pot with no obvious source, rapidly bringing the water to a boil. “Allow me, as the party medical professional you ought to conserve your vys. Just in case someone is injured.” She explains while taking a seat adjacent Profectus. You Glance over to see Chryssa still meditating, and Fulvia still hard at work decoding that research data. At least she's making progress.

“By the way, what's the story with the headgear? Why subject yourself to so drastic an alteration?” You ask your host, Skull Kid. He shrugs his shoulders. “Makes me better at what I do. I mean, think about it. Your average guy on the street, not mods, can see a handful of pure colors. Purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. Everything else is just a shade of those six. Me? I can see all the way into the ultraviolent and infrared spectrums. Not all the time, mind you, but if I activate one of my cameras or sensors.” He pauses for a moment to grab one of the long, pointed cords that make up his 'hair'. “These? Allow me to interface with most any device in the city. Not to mention they make okay weapons too in a pinch.” He lets the cord drop. “This is just the visual stuff too. Under the skin I'm even more modded out. Skeletal reinforcement, enhanced musculature. It was all necessary for the line of work I was in. Being a sub-city scavenger, while profitable, is incredibly dangerous.”

Huh, that sounds... expensive, and painful. Some of that went over your head but you think you got the gist of it. Needed to make himself more than human to survive. The sound of metal banging against metal draws your attention away from Skull Kid. Seems the pressure cooker has reached the proper pressure, if the jangling weight on top of the valve is any indicator. Profectus tells her to lower the heat slightly, and the clanging subsides. Her control is really quite good.

(1/3 or 4)
>>
You switch to Samjani so that you can address her. “So, what do you think of all this? How are you holding up?” She cocks her head to the side contemplatively for a moment before replying. “I am doing well. It is almost like an odd vacation, I mean, besides needing to save your life. That was slightly stressful.” You quirk your eyebrow skeptically. “When did you save my life? Typically it is the other way around.” She responds with a cocky grin. “When you inhaled this reptilian monstrosity's poison, you would have drowned in your own blood had I not used water magic to heal you.” You hold up a finger. “Ahhh, but that is water magic that you learned from me. Thus, I saved my own life by proxy.”

She scoffs. “Please! Rationalize it however you want, but I saved your life. If I do it again we'll be even.” You shake your head. “Twice more, I've saved you from the bandits, after Profectus accidentally nearly killed the whole party, and after the AI bashed you into the wall.” She holds up a finger. “No, twice. The AI bashing me into the wall doesn't count because I wouldn't of died from my wounds.”

Profectus interrupts here. “If you two are done speaking your ooga-booga language, I think the food ought to be about done.” You shoot him a glare, though Darzi just looks confused. The promise of food that isn't floating in some kind of broth is enough of a distraction that you let Prof off the hook, for now. Darzi cuts the heat and you cool the pot enough that you can safely handle it. Carefully you remove the weight securing the vent closed and steam rushes out, relieving the pressure inside. Once it appears safe you pop open the clasp securing the lid closed.

(2/3 or 4)
>>
You're relived that no explosion rings out, nor does the lid go flying off into the night sky. There is a soft 'pop' and then you smoothly remove the lid. Thick white steam billows forth along with the scent of rosemary and thyme. Seems this pressure cooker worked, and that Ricky knows how to cook for some... odd reason.

While Profectus plates everyone up, you decide to ask Skull Kid another question. “So tell me a little more about the Mutagenic War.” He shrugs his shoulders, jabbing your spear briefly into the lizard's jawline to correct its course. “There isn't much to tell, honestly. Records have been locked up tight and not many people around to see it are still alive. The head of the Conclave, Stumpy No-Legs, will be able to tell you a bit more about it. He was there.” Profectus very nearly choked on his meal. “Do you really call him Stumpy No-Legs? Doesn't that offend him?” Skull Kid shrugs. “He calls himself that, it's just his nickname.”

Everyone focuses on eating for a time. Once you've finished you set the bowl aside and push yourself up once more. “Alright, lets switch off Skull Kid. Do you mind if I just call you Kid?” He sighs wearily. “Nah, I guess not. That's what most people call me anyway. Man, I'm thirty-eight. You know how annoying it is to be called Kid by everyone you know when you're almost forty?” You shake your head. “No, my people live to be several hundred years old on average. To us, a forty year old really is merely a 'kid'.” He glances over his shoulder at you, staring for a few uncomfortable moments before simply shaking his head. “Lucky sons of bitches.”

(3/4)
>>
He tosses you your spear and you catch it without much trouble, stepping up to take his standing on the lizard's neck while he makes his way towards the open pressure cooker to fix himself a bowl. “Just jab the big bastard in the little white spots at the back of its jawline if it starts to veer off course. I've got you on a more or less straight path to the Conclave.” You shout back. “You got it! Hey, now that we're headed for a pretty populated area I got a question?” He calls up to you. “What is it?” You use Manipulate to keep your spear aloft and poised to strike, while you turn around and fold your arms in front of your chest. “Just how weird and amazing is magic going to be to the average person? Should I keep it low key?”

He stares at the levitating spear for a few moments, slowly shaking his head before turning his attention to you. “Yeah, just... don't do that. Don't do anything obvious and don't show off. They'll think you're some kind of telekinetic mutant or something, or a witch.” The hell is 'telekinetic'?

How does the 5 effects book work with regards to Vys gains? Is it just 1 for the entire thing or 1 for every effect?
>>

We should totally get everyone learn Water magic. Actually, we need everyone to learn each discipline because each level in any category means more vys to use. Getting novice rank is piss easy and it would be retarded not to do so. Also, we must make them read all of the books that we have read also for the same reason.
Mik needs to do the same too.

It is said that in the ancient past, when Rhynia first invaded Hiacia, the Priesthood of Surya created a servant race to combat the Rhynians. They were said to be created by the God himself in a fit of rage at the destruction of his temples. As strong as oxen and more magically powerful than any normal Samjan, yet at the same time docile and unemotional. The only draw back was that, unlike their masters, the Children of Surya did not live for hundreds of years, often dying before the age of sixty.

They were used as shock troops by Hiacian armies to halt the Rhynian advance into Pidjata. Once the advance was halted the Hiacians launched a counter attack to reclaim their lands, including what would one day become the city of El-Amin. However, over the decades the Children died off. Soon there were none left and the secret to their creation had been lost. Thus, the next time the two great empires waged war, Hiacia was defeated. Reduced to a shadow of its former glory, most of its arable land seized by the Rhynians.

Also we need to find a way to keep the Waifu alive.

Also it is possible that she isn't pureblood of that and she is a Rhynian experiment based on that.

Pani isn't necessarily depicted with horns, though she has been depicted with horns in the past. Typically Pani is depicted as an attractive, four-armed goddess wearing a golden floral headdress.

We also have a more reliable depiction of Pani as a male with horns.

Maybe Pani and this unnamed

>You're standing in a long hallway, illuminated on either sides by troughs of flaming pitch. The walls are carved with images of a great battle, of two four-armed figures battling a much large figure, with a face constructed only of a gaping mouth and two flaming red eyes. You think it might be a warped depiction of the god Surya, come to think of it.

>Going along the wall carving, Surya is entrapped by one of the figures in a cage of stone, and then the other figure lashes at it with a blade of ice. The god is cut, and his blood drops from the bars of his stone cage, down onto a dot bellow. You recognize this story, it's the same one you saw in Surya's Temple at the Fortress of Eshnuk. The god with the blade of ice must be Pani, but then who is the other god? You had never heard the story told the way it was depicted here.

>As you reach the end of the hallway you come to a pair of great stone doors, and written above the doorway a message. “Entombed Within The Bones of Earth”

It's a pretty simple job, steering this massive creature. For the most part you simply lean against your spear and keep an eye on the road ahead. Every now and then you'll need to reroute to bypass some woods or the lizard will start to drift off towards one direction or another and you'll give it a jab to keep it on course. As a result you have plenty of time to make light conversation while, at least until everyone starts trying to sleep for the night.

“So what are witches?” You glance briefly over your shoulder towards Skull Kid and the others. Kid replies as soon as he swallows his mouthful of food. “Witches and warlocks are sort of like you, they're said to be able to use magic. Some say they're remnants of the Visitors driven mad by the lack of magic in this world and forced to make pacts with the Magi to sustain themselves. I just think they're some crazy fuckers living in the woods.” Profectus speaks up. “Well, who are the Magi? That was just an old term for practitioners of magic on our world.”

You note that Skull Kid seems to get uncomfortable at this line of questioning. “Well, according to the dominant local faith, the one I know best because I was brought up in it, the Magi are the embodiment of all things evil. There are ten Magi in the world, each corresponding to one of the unforgivable sins. There's Lust, Vanity, Ambition, Avarice, Blasphemy, Gluttony, Greed, Lethargy, Anger, and Depression.” Profectus interrupts here. “So, wait. Ambition, greed, and avarice are wrong and yet so are lethargy, lust, and gluttony? If one isn't supposed to aspire to anything, want for anything, or take pride in anything what is there to do in life save fuck, eat, and sleep?” Skull Kid waves him off. “Look, I'm just telling you what they believe. I'm not saying I subscribe to it.”

(1/3 or 4)
>>
He takes a few more bites of food before continuing. “So, anyway. These Magi attempt to corrupt the souls of mortals with promises of power, women, wealth, what have you in exchange for their embodying the particular vice they represent-” Profectus cuts in again. “Can I make multiple pacts? Because embodying lust, vanity, and lethargy sounds pretty damn nice.” Skull Kid sighs, the sound coming out as a burst of static through his helmet speakers. You find that odd, because not a moment ago he sighed normally. “God damn it, stop interrupting me! Anyway, the people who make pacts with Magi are called witches and warlocks, witches being female and warlocks male.”

Huh, that's kind of interesting. Reminds you of spirit worship in a lot of ways, except there are far, far more than ten spirits and one doesn't typically have to 'embody' anything. “What about telekinesis?” Skull Kid responds after a short delay. “That one is simpler. Telekinesis is basically the ability to move shit with one's mind. Some of the monsters that roam the waste have developed it after the Mutagenic wars. Some people can do it too, but it's really, really rare and shunned by a lot of religions as abominations.”

Huh, the more you know. After that conversation peters out as you focus on steering. Once he's finished his meal, Skull Kid pulls a blanket out of his pack and curls up a short distance away from Profectus and Darzi. You hear one of them bust out laughing from time to time but don't actually hear either of them speaking, so you assume they must be using the brooches to communicate.

After several hours of staring out into the dusty plains you see two massive spires looming on the horizon, and not long after that see a bright glow of light blooming beneath them. You can only assume that's the Conclave, you'll likely be there soon. Before you have time to truly appreciate the sight you hear someone approaching. Glancing over your shoulder, you see that it's Chryssa, finally finished meditating you'd suppose. You also note that Profectus and Darzi are asleep, both of them curled up on their own little spots of lizard hide. Skull Kid is snoring as loudly as anyone you've ever heard.

“So how did it go?” She actually grins ever so slightly. “I have gained a basic understanding of Earth Magic, and in addition I believe I may finally understand channeling vys towards mental task. I needed to do so in order that my meditation might be successful.” You can't help but feel a little upwelling of pride that your student is doing well. “That's fantastic to hear, Chrys. You know, you're really picking this up quickly. Think you'll get a little more use out of that mace now?” She nods her head. “I believe so, though I have not yet had the opportunity to try it out. Is that the city up ahead?” You glance back towards the two tall spires, nodding your head. “I can only assume.” Chryssa looks down towards the lizard you're riding, and then up towards the city in the distance. “Should we perhaps dismount and let this beast go on its way? I do not think such an ostentatious arrival would benefit us.”

We basic lyrics paid 3 or 4 months worth of food for it. I'm not setting it loose to lose all that money. And I doubt we can station it.
And feeding it again would cripple our food reserves. Granted we can always buy more. But that is a high price to pay. 3~4 months worth of food per day. When we could possible gain better gear. And good will towards the people's town.

“You know, that's a good point Chrys. For all we know, riding this lizard up to the gates will get us all shot at or attacked, or at the very least will panic the Conclave and start us off on a bad foot.” She nods her head. “I am surprised that you have seen reason. I fully expected you to ride onward with no thought given to what the consequences might be, and I had prepared myself for that.” You're not sure whether it's comforting that she's getting used to your insanity, or insulting that she thinks you incapable of seeing reason.

You stay atop the giant lizard until the Conclave becomes properly visible. The two tall spires you'd seen in the distance appear to be the remnants of some kind of super structure. Neither rusted with age nor collapsed, innumerable wires seem to sprawl out around them like the roots to trees. The wires glow brightly, though not with vys. They must use some other manner of energy for power. You don't see a proper city, but the towers are awfully large. The entire population may live within or, perhaps, underneath. The wall enclosing the two towers is a collection of scrap metal and wood bristling with what, as best you can tell, are massive gun barrels. Many of them are longer than you are tall with bores large enough for you to shove your head inside.

It occurs to you that you don't actually know how to stop this lizard, but Skull Kid steps in at that point. Chryssa had the foresight to wake him up, along with the rest of your party. He takes the spear and gently prods the white patch of scales on the back of the lizard's jaw, guiding it into a slow circle. Once the lizard spots its tail it stops and lays down, biting down on the tip of its tail and closing its eyes. That would probably be cute, if this creature did not breath acid and was not larger than most houses.

Your party carefully make their way down the back of the lizard, sliding off the tail once they're close enough to the surface that no one needs to worry about breaking any bones. Once you've put some distance between yourselves and the now, as best you can tell, sleeping lizard Skull Kid turns to address you and yours. “Alright, listen. This is how it's going to be. I'm going to walk up first and get their attention, then tell them I have some friends with me once I get inside. I'll come back out and you'll need to approach the gates. They'll ask you to stop so they can get a look at you. Now, depending on who's got gate duty they might take a few pot shots at you. Just ignore it, they won't actually shoot you, just at you. Once they've had their fun they'll tell you to come in and they'll take you to meet Stumpy No-Legs. Got it?”

The girl isn't grotesque enough to be a mutant and Rocky here doesn't have to worry about a thing, prosthesis with artistic facades are really popular these days. Elves are sort of an entity in our collective imagination, supposedly a lot of the Visitors were elves.” He waves a hand dismissively. “You'll probably be fine. You nod your head. “That sounds fine, even if they do hit us I can probably heal any damage. As long as no limbs are severed, but even then as long as the limb is in good condition I should be able to reattach it.” He stares at you for a long moment. “That's perhaps the most casual I've ever heard someone speak of dismemberment. Alright, I guess I'll leave your safety in your own capable hands then. Follow me, I'll tell you where to wait.”

Your party follows along until coming within a few hundred feet of the gates, and then Skull Kid gestures for you to wait. You stop and fold your arms in front of your chest, waiting while he marches across the distance towards the heavy metal structures. You can distantly hear him shout something though it's unintelligible from here, and then the gates swing open and he slips inside. Some paranoid part of you says that he's obviously just ditched you and is going to leave you stranded out here, but you quell that fear without much difficulty.

You wait, and then wait some more. Attempts to spark up conversation falter, the situation proving too tense for idle chit-chat. You doubt anyone is eager to be shot at, especially after they've seen what your pistol can do. These guns are far, far larger than your piddly little pea shooter. After what feels like hours the gates finally swing open once more and you see Skull Kid step out, though he's rather indistinct at this distance. You can at least tell that he's waving you over, so you start to stride towards the gates.

When you're around a hundred feet from the gates a voice rings out in the still morning air, amplified by some unknown force. “HALT! You will now be scanned for contaminants and mutation!” Scanned? The hell? What even qualifies as mutation? Skull Kid didn't mention this. You don't feel any different while you wait nor does any sort of light shine down from the walls to illuminate you, but you're still uneasy about this turn of events. Profectus mumbles under his breath. “At least they're not shooting at us.”

As soon as the words have left his mouth a shot booms forth, and a few feet to your right the ground explodes. Dirt sprays out in every direction, pelting your party with small rocks and muddying your clothing. You're proud to say you didn't even flinch, nor did Chryssa. Profectus has dived off to the left and is covering his head. Darzi as well seems to have been caught off guard, since she's laying right there next to him. You can't help but find it a little funny that hers is the only armor which might, maybe be strong enough to take a direct hit and survive, yet she's cowering on the ground. Fulvia merely seems annoyed that her papers got dirty. She seems really absorbed in decoding that research data.

A few more shots ring out in quick succession, these stitching across the ground in front of you. What is even the point of this? To scare off the feint of heart? Perhaps to ward off soft City-dwellers? Just as Skull Kid promised, none of the shots actually hit you. The voice rings out once more. “You five are no fun. Alright, come on in then.”

(2/3)
>>
You take a moment to help Profectus to his feet, relieved to see he hasn't been hit. Chryssa does the same with Darzi. Then the five of you make your way across pockmarked ground towards the gates. They open as you approach, Skull Kid greeting you on the other side. “See? That wasn't so bad.” Before he has any opportunity to say more, a man appears from a doorway on a guard tower. He's young, His eyes glow with an unnatural light and several seemingly unnecessary gadgets have been bolted to his head. His skin appears grey and lifeless, and wires seem to run beneath it. “Alright, come on. Follow me to Tower One.” You recognize his voice as the one voice which was shouting out orders to you not a moment ago.

You can report people for shitposting on 4chan most forget that.
>>
>>32705158
So long as you have a single musketball left you can craft a mold and make them en masse. Similarly metal magic would allow you to press brass/steel/what have you into the shape of a cartridge, should you have an example to work from. In fact it would probably be fairly basic metal magic. You could probably do it on a small scale now if you knew what the hell it involved.
>>

>implying the mods actually give a shit about shitposting

Black powder is pretty easy. 100 parts saltpeter and around 25 parts charcoal.

Modern gun powder is harder.
>>
>>32705231

>>
>>32705260

>>
>>32705231
Ok need to remember to buy some of the different types and save them to mess with later.

Soma side question do we need to worry about running into grenades on this side?
I trust our armor to protect us against almost anything magic and melee related but a chunk of exploding shrapnel is another story.
>>
>>32705287
>>32705274
>>32705260
Would modern gun powder work with our current gun?

>>
>>32705307
Master level water vatis, and vatis level metal ai.
>>
>>32705300
>I thought there was sulfur in it?

Not needed, it was put in because it reduced the ignition temperature so it worked well in flintlocks.

Sulferless black powder is less smoky and works well with primer based ignition, like caplocks.
>>
>>32705307
>need to worry about running into grenades on this side?

>>
>>32705356
no it's a hammer lock with cartridges.
>>
>>32705356
All we know is we stuff paper cartridges into the barrel. Since there's no flashpan I'm guessing it's not a flintlock.

True, i just dont want to test the limit of our healing ability.

>>32705335

>>
>>32705369
Not paper. We just put the bullets in and let the hammer slam down.
>>
>>32705368
It's a flintlock. You cock the hammer back and light a fuse. When it you pull the trigger the hammer slams the fuse into the exposed black powder.
>>
>>32705401

Also, you can shoot black powder out of a gun designed for smokeless powder just fine. If it has an automatic action it may not cycle though.

Also, black powder is corrosive to guns. You need to clean them after you fire them or they'll rust to shit.
>>
>>32705643
Same reason spell are empower when they are channeled through our spear.
>>
>>32705643

>>32705695

You'd think that, but no. Black powder has a much gentler pressure curve than smokeless.

Some people do fire underpressured rounds from BP revolvers, but it's not advised.
>>
>>32705664
Thank you

As the young guard leads you towards one of the massive towers, the nearest one, you decide to ask for a little more information about this little settlement you find yourself in. “Can you tell me anything about the Conclave? Anything relating to, ohh, I don't know... trading hubs, currency exchanges, that sort of thing.” Profectus tacks on his own bit at the end. “And prosti-I mean... entertainment areas.” The glare he receives from Chrys is enough to weather even the bravest men, yet he still attempts to defend himself. “What? It's been a while...”

The guard chuckles in a wry sort of way before responding. “Yeah... yeah I can tell you all about the 'entertainment districts' later. For now I'd say save your questions until after you meet Ol' Stumpy. He's gotten crotchety in his age, you cross him you won't be able to take advantage of no entertainment. Anyway, as for the-” He waves a hand in a vague sort of manner towards the other tower, the more distant tower. “-money stuff. You can find your various needs over there. We take AWU and something of a bullet economy has sprung up in some of the lower reaches. Anything else can be sold in the 'Bazaar' though it's hardly much of a bazaar. Just a few stalls set up in the entry hall.” He shrugs. “But like I said, don't worry your pretty little heads about any of that yet.”

The guard stops in front of a large, metallic door. It reminds you in many ways of Rhynian doors, parted down the middle but sliding into the walls around it rather than swinging open. The hallway on the other side is wide, sterile, and metallic much like a Rhynian hallway, but not quite the same. The architecture is not so strictly utilitarian. Supports arch gracefully from the walls up to the ceiling. Lighting is dynamic, varying shades of blues and whites produced by colored glass tubes, the level of brightness seeming to brighten or dim as you enter and leave the room. You find it much, much more tolerable than those damned Rhynian facilities even if still a tad minimalistic for your taste.

“Come on, lift's this way. Go wandering off we'll have to start a man hunt for you and nobody wants that. Believe me, I'm off work in a half hour. Man hunt would just complicate that whole...-” He waves his hand about in a vague manner, pausing for a long while as he wanders seemingly at random through the halls. “-situation.” It isn't long before you reach some sort of strange chamber. In the center of it is a sort of glass tube opening up into a sheer drop below and a seemingly endless hole above. The guard punches a button and an 'up' arrow shines with a cheery green glow.

You wait, and then wait some more. Your guard rocks impatiently back and forth on his heels. Profectus twiddles his thumbs. Fulvia continues to read and annotate the research data. Chrys yawns, breaking the growing silence. Your guard clears his throat pointedly. “Sooo... what brings you to Conclave?”

You glance around, looking at each of your companions briefly before deciding to just come out and say it. “We're travelers from another dimension, a land of magic.” You draw yourself up to your full height, trying to look dignified. The guard simple stares at you for a moment before responding. “Look, man. If you didn't want to tell me you didn't have to tell me. No need to be a dick about it.” The annoyance in his voice is obvious. You feel yourself physically deflate while Profectus starts snickering. “What? No! We're really from another dimension! I know magic!” He turns towards you, looking cross. “Look, stow it. I get it. You don't want to tell me. Just... drop the subject man, sheesh.”

The elevator arrives and the seven of you cram yourselves in forcefully. It's a fairly tiny elevator, not really designed to fit large masses of people. Still, you try. Eventually everyone manages to get to a point of acceptable discomfort and the elevator doors slide shut noiselessly. The guard presses a button and with a jolt the lift begins to rise. Much to your and everyone's displeasure soft, terrible music begins to play from odd mesh-covered devices in the corners of the elevator ceiling. It is perhaps the most dull music you have ever heard.

Finally, gratefully, the torture ends. You're vomited forth into a long hallway lined with black marble and gold. You're distinctly reminded of the hallway leading into the massive Rhynian vault where you first met the three skeletal figures which have spectated your life ever since. It's an uncomfortable feeling, but you soldier on behind the guard as he leads you towards a set of massive doors, also made of black marble and ornamented with gold inlay.

He presses a button and an annoying, artificial buzz rings out, echoing slightly in the long hallway. A voice, deep and gravely, calls out from the other side of the door. “Just a minute! Let me... figure out these... fucking buttons!” You wait for what seems like several minutes in uncomfortable silence before the marble doors slide open noiselessly. Inside is an office significantly less ostentatious than you expected. Stacks of paper lie scattered throughout the room. A narrow stairwell leads up to an unknown room beyond. Center in the room is a large white screen with various images displayed on it, and adjacent that a comfortable looking chair with a control panel on the arm rest.

In this chair rest a man far, far past his prime. His legs, as the name 'Stumpy No-Legs' ought to suggest, are missing. In their place are some sort of metal, digitigrade protrusions with springs where proper musculature should be. They look to have been amputated at mid-thigh. Taking a glance away from hist most obvious features you see a man dressed simply, in peasant's garb as you would describe it. His beard is thick and as white as the driven snow. His hair, though sparse, is similarly shaded. In his lap sits a thick tome of some sort and he nods to the six of you as your guard ushers you in. The last thing you hear before the doors slide shut is. “Transdimensional voyagers to see you, sir.”

(2/3, I lied.)
>>
The man sets his book aside, carefully sliding a bookmark into place before closing it with a soft 'thud'. He sets it aside gently and folds his hands in his lap. “Pleasure to see you again, Kid.” Skull Kid sighs, but nods his head in greeting. “Nice to see you too, Stumpy.” The old man seems to settle in place contentedly. How could anyone describe this guy as crotchety? He seems as relaxed as anyone you've ever met. “So who are your friends? Not troublemakers, surely.” There is a subtle threat in his tone, though Skull Kid ignores it. “Found them outside my doorstep, lost and confused. They asked me about some of the local flora, fauna, sights. That sorta thing. They hired me on as a guide to lead them on down here.”

Stumpy nods, and for the first time turns his full attention towards you. He leans forward in his chair and peers at you intensely enough you half expect to combust. “So what the fuck are you six side-show freaks good for? We don't need no more weird hookers or bar louts.” You can tell Profectus is caught off guard, and if you're being honest you are too.

To clarify, you can regenerate limbs. To do so you'll need to re-amputate his leg above his current stump and begin regrowing it from there. It will take a long, long time and use up a lot, and I mean a LOT of vys. Really, it's basically a method of meditation. That's the sort of time frame we're talking about here. It will also take several such 'sessions' to get his legs in working order, instead of them simply being longer stumps.
>>
>>32706633
Pretty much just this, do something to show them we aren't lying.

>>
You step forward, bowing low and elaborately to this 'Stumpy' fellow. “I am Mikhael Abdul-Hakim, and these are my companions.” You gesture to the four of them. “The one in the heavy armor is Captain Darzi. She is, or at least, used to be a soldier in my native land's armed forces. Quite talented with all manner of melee weaponry and equipped with armor capable of absorbing the blow from a corrupted AI's combat shell.” She nods her head in greeting, but otherwise remains silent.

“The one in the strange horned armor is Chryssa Avci. An accomplished hunter capable of superhuman feats of strength. I have seen her rip metal beams off of walls with her bare hands. Able to pluck a sparrow from the air with an arrow at a hundred yards. Any man or beast you take issue with, she can subdue them. I wouldn't count on them being alive afterward though.” She touches the index and middle fingers of her right hand to the forehead and mouth of her ornate metal mask, but says nothing.

You jerk your thumb over your shoulder to indicate Fulvia. “She is an AI built by an ancient empire, familiar with all fields of architecture and construct maintenance. She is also a capable combatant and, as you can see, an avid reader.” Fulvia shows no signs of noticing Stumpy, merely flipping to the next page of her report and continuing to write.

“My friend Profectus here-” You clap him companionably on the shoulder. “-Can gamble and drink and whore with the best of them, but we come as a package deal.” He scowls at you. “Fuck you, I can do other things! This arm of mine will put a hole through just about anything, I'm good for party morale, I used to be a soldier... I mean, come on! I'm useful!” In as soothing a tone as you can muster you mutter. “Sure you are, Prof. Sure you are. Just relax.” He folds his arms in front of his chest but at least keeps his mouth shut.
(1/2)
>>
>>32707191
Its probably the opposite.

Gold is probably worth much much more
>>
“As for myself?” You spread your hands out, using just a touch of fire magic to fill the air with sparks for a brief moment. “I'm magic. Should you only ask, I could regrow your legs as good as new, better in fact! I need neither knife nor bandage to heal wounds, merely the power that surrounds us in all things.”

You hear Skull Kid mutter behind you. “God.... fucking damn it.” Stumpy leans back in his seat and huffs in a contemplative sort of way. “I'll pass on that offer of healing my legs. I mean, the fuck would people call me? Regular Two-Legs? That doesn't have any sort of ring to it. No sir, I'll keep the old war wounds. Some of the young tikes don't have my sense of pride though. Might be able to convince a few of them to let you ply your trade, whatever it is. Don't think for a minute I buy that magic crap. Probably just...-” He leans his head back, letting out a deep rumbling sigh. “-I don't know, nanomachines or some such nonsense. Anyway-” He waves a hand dismissively. “Ask me questions or... whatever it is you were going to do.” He clears his throat noisily, seemingly girding himself for the barrage of words he'd surely have to spew in the near future.

Instead of simply selling the gold and silver, we could try to sell gold trinkets and jewelry. With Fulvia's metal magic she could shape gold in amazing pieces. That way we get the price of the gold in weight and the extra for the craft.

“What are some sights to visit in the Conclave?” Stubby grumbles unintelligibly for a moment before responding. “Pete's Diner is alright. Food's processed crap but it isn't as bland as the rest of the processed crap. The top of the towers tend to be popular hang out spots for horny teenagers. Great view, if you're into that sort of thing. There's a bar down on the lower levels I frequent on rare occasions-” How does one frequent someplace occasionally? “-because the drinks aren't watered down. Lessee 'ere...” He combs his fingers through his beard for a few moments. “Takin' potshots at animals from the walls is already fun. There's all kinds of market stalls and stores over in the Bazaar.” He shrugs his shoulders. “I don't know, explore yah lazy prick. What am I, your tour guide?”

Chryssa pipes up. “Would you be willing to share some history with us relating to the City, Conclave, and the lands themselves?” He nods his head slowly. “Sure, sure. Got some old war stories to tell.” He sits up properly for once. “About eighty-six years ago now, the Mutagenic War broke out. Y'see mutagenics was a term given to a type of specialized bomb intended to rapidly deteriorate the DNA of a subject without properly killing them. It was intended to let the affected individuals breed and then die a slow death, but their offspring... eugh. Horribly little mutant buggers. S'why I didn't have kids. Anyway, after a generation or two the whole area is filled with nothing but twisted infertile monsters, in theory at least. In practice some of the mutations stuck and produced new species. The land was rendered barren. People survived. Thus, we enter the world today.”

>>32707819
can we give our reasoning to kid about why we went against his wishes?
For the body guard we can say, it was to throw him into a loop.
For the old man, it was to make him think we are crazy or performers.
>>
He leans back, seeming to wax nostalgic for a moment. “GD, I guess that's Genetics Dynamics for you fuckin' youngsters, dropped the big bomb on Dynetics Headquarters. After that it was just no holds barred. Dynetics launched everything they had at everyone. GD responded in kind. Everyone unrelated that got caught in the attack panicked and launched everything they had. SAM, that's Space, Air, Medical was the only corp to escape with most of its holdings unscathed, but that was only because SAM had most of its facilities in orbit. They were also pretty well equipped to handle treating victims of the war. I was in their employ.”

“So after the bombs started falling, SAM sent down scouting parties to investigate the wreckage. We found ourselves assaulted on all sides by corp remnants, clinging to what remained of their ideologies. Ended up SAM needed to launch a full scale invasion of the surface, and their very first stronghold is the City I see glowing on the horizon every damn evening. Ruling the world isn't good for any sort of people. Power tends to drive them mad, you see. As the last bastion of civilization and hope, SAM converted itself into the monstrosity that is The City. It abandoned its crusade and consolidated its power base. These towers? Old outpost set up by SAM, abandoned after they decided to just city in their god damned Ivory Tower and herd sheep.”
(2/3)
>>
You butt in here. “So, the City wasn't originally a holding of SAM? So, what about the old tower? The one that sits in ruin below the new model. I was told there was an artifact in there of interest to me.” He waves a hand dismissively. “That's the old World Trade Center. It was the gathering center for representatives from each corp, retaken first sort of as a symbolic gesture. Supposedly before it was the World Trade Center it was a castle of some sort, way back when. We're talking back in the Golden Age here. All sorts of old bits of pottery and bullcrap like that were on display. If what you're looking for exist, it's under there.”

A hopeful note in your voice, you decide to press on. “Do you know a way to get in? I need to get inside the City but I'll be skinned alive before I sell myself into slavery.” He chuckles wryly. “Yeah, I know how to get in. There's an old tunnel our boys use to get in there and fuck around a bit from time to time. Pay back for ditching us out here in the boonies and expecting us to lay down and die. You ask around, you'll find someone to get you in.”

Most of your major questions answered, you broach more trivial subjects. “What's a fair price for gold? I have large quantities of it but I've heard it is not the local tender.” He raises an eyebrow out of curiosity but simple turns towards the screen next to him and taps it with his finger. A window slides out from a strange little bar at the bottom of the screen and he taps away on a board of keys attached to the side of the screen.
