Peasant Quest Part 7

Previous Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/32671912/

Abilities:

+You are unusually perceptive & intelligent.

+You can read & write in English, as well as your mother tongue (it’s very unlikely anyone alive still knows this language however.

+You have a very basic understanding of modern geography

Supernatural abilities:

+Breathless: You do not need to breathe.

+Regeneration: Any wound thus far inflicted on you heals almost instantly, even severed limbs grow back. The spear wound in your chest remains with you however.

+Strength: You have yet to encounter the upper limits of your strength.

+Speed: You are able to run as fast a horse.

+Endurance: You do not tire, you could run all night if the mood struck you.

+Sixth Sense: You can sense vampires & gauge a rough idea of their potency
.
+Darkvision: You can see clearly even in total darkness.

Passive abilities (always on, you cannot control them….yet):

*Passive ability: Psychic Miasma*
Your presence has a negative effect on the minds of the living over time, the longer you stay in one place the worse it becomes. People for miles around are plagued with strange nightmares, the incidence of lunacy and suicide increases, tempers fray more easily and people are prone to violence and despair.

*Passive ability: Pestilence*
Wherever you are, sickness follows. Crops wilt, food spoils, vermin multiply in unnatural numbers and people begin to contract the bubonic plague.

Vulnerabilities:

Daylight Hours: Whilst the rays of the Sun do not harm you, you are inert & helpless during the daylight hours.

Bloodthirst: You crave the blood of the living, without it you will weaken and eventually fall into a deathlike slumber from which only blood will awaken you. You have as yet been unable to feed on anyone without killing them.

Divine Powers: In ancient times, a holy spear was able to immobilise you and put you to sleep. Whether any such weapons still exist however…..

After an ill-fated sea voyage, you were shipwrecked on familiar shores.

You have found yourself at the site of your home village, though nothing of it remains. A thousand centuries having erased all traces of your former life.

You erected a monument for your people, carving their names into a large stone in the forgotten script of your homeland. Something possessed you to add both your name & Kassa’s to the stone as well.

Whilst you were slumped beneath the stone, mourning the loss of your family, home and way of life a vampire strode up to you. He greeted you as ‘brother’ & seems to recognize you.

He has introduced himself as ‘Arsaces’.

Your sense tells you that he is both old and powerful, he has extended an open hand to you in greeting.

What do you do?

Welcome back to Peasant Quest!

Decisions by vote, more weight given to well thought out/interesting posts, questions welcome.
>>
Hey Helios.

Let's be nice to this guy, hear what he has to say but be evasive if he asks questions about us. Namely avoid giving away our age and any possible connection with Kassa/'Mother'.
>>
Gonna wait a little while for a few more players to turn up before updating.

Also bump.

Greet him kindley and ask what he knows about this place

Another anon here now; good to be back in this quest
>>
You shake his hand feebly & do not get up. You aren’t in a very social mood after rediscovering your home or rather the absence of it.

Arsaces seems undeterred, he sits himself down opposite you & crosses his legs. You are once again struck by this man’s uncanny resemblance to you, he is slightly taller and broader but could easily be mistaken for you unless the two of you were stood side by side.
You ask him why he is out here, what he knows of this place.

“A pilgrimage you might say” he replies

“I doubt I know any more than you. I’m sure the story is familiar.”

He gestures to the east.

“Shortly after she awoke in the east, Mother came here. She stayed on this spot they say, in the middle of nowhere for a year and a day. No one knows why. Then she went back east and created the first of her children; Uldin and Csreka. Then the rest of us.”

“I suspect I am here for the same reasons as you. Searching for whatever she was searching for, understanding why she came here and why she made us as we are.”

He nods to the stone you erected.

“Did you place that here? It was not here a fortnight ago. ”

What do you do?
>>
>>32693393
It is a memorial to my old life, which the world has forgotten.
>>
>>32693393
Arsaces seems like a friendly-enough vampire ... perhaps he could help us find Kassa?

I think we should tell him of our past ... or better yet, *show* him.

Take him to the Forest, to the site of the Pale Tree.
>>
>>32693468

I'd be suprised if a forest has survived 120000 years anon. Ice-ages and tectonic shifts happen over such periods and the Pale Tree wasnt even physically there.
>>
>>32693393
Ask him if he knows where mother is
>>
>>32693453
Second but add on, I believe that I am doing the same thing as mother did. Looking for there other part.
>>
>>32693614
>>32693468

I thought we decided that telling the Pope you were buddies with Jesus wasnt a good idea.

We know too little to start proclaiming ourselves the father of all vampires or w/e
>>
We can probably just jumble all these suggestions together
>>
>>32693658
That's probably true. Who knows how they would react. Tough call. Lets just leave it out for now and keep talking
>>
>>32693658
Opps forgot about that.
>>
>>32693453
>>32693517
>>32693453

"I did". You reply

"It....honors a memory, gives it substance."

He looks at you strangely.

You continue, "Do you know where mother is?"

For a short while, he looks at you thoughtfully. Not saying anything.

"You were not there were you? Though all of the first-born were summoned... 900 years past in Carpathia."

He carries on hesitantly,

"It is not something I like to remember, however necessary it may have been. I do not think it will be easy for you to hear."

"Tell me, how well did you know Mother? What is your last memory of her>"
>>
>>32693806

Meant to add, what do you do/say?
>>
>>32693806
"our time together was short, I remember reading to her little stories anything I could find.(sniff lock of hair) I haven't see her in so long.
>>
>>32693806
She was an old friend of mine and i wish to see her once more
>>
>>32693806
>What is your last memory of her?

Fuck, there's only so much we can say to this without outright lying.

I still say we take him to the Tree-site and tell him the whole story. It was implied a thread or two ago that vampires can kinda sense the nature of other vamp's souls/beings, so this guy will know we're telling the truth. And the Pale Tree itself could show him the memory.
>>
>>32693806
>>32694012

Invoke amnesia, it has served us well.

Give some vague answer that provides no info.
>>
>>32694054
yes to the tree! the stone circle
>>
>>32694058
>>32694054
>>32693806

Say, "I remember little, it was long ago but she was..... not herself"

Technically true, but gives next to nothing away.
>>
>>32694092
>>32694054
Thirding this, to the stone circle

"Come with me. I have something to show you"
>>
>>32694190
>>32694092
>>32694054

"It is better that I show you something before I tell you. It'll help make things clear."

You bid him follow you & head off at a good speed toward Hisho's forest. After some two hours you have reached what you are certain was the spot on which the stone circle stood, only now there is nothing but acres of farmland. No forest, no standing stones and no Pale Tree.

Arsaces gives you a questioning look.

What do you do?
>>
>>32694267
Well fuck its gone, shall we justtell him evrything?
>>
>>32694267
Hey he's a god , lets try and pray a little
>>
>>32694419
Try this
>>
Telling him anything before finding out what happened to 'Mother' is probably a foolish idea. We met this guy just now and know nothing about him.

Play up only just awakening in this time-period and acting all confused. Find out what happened in Carpathia.

>>32694419

Fuck the tree. It's messed us up two ways from Sunday. How in character is it to pray to something thats turned us into a murderous monster and by all indications has corrupted our waifu. Its nothing but bad news and attracting it's attention is a bad idea.

It probably lives inside us now anyway.
>>
>>32694419
>>32694491

If it doesn't work, tell him that you've slept for ages and this place used to be VERY different. Then ask about Carpathia.

Lost in this remade landscape and absent any clue about what to do or say, you turn to the one thing you know survived with you.

You reach out with your mind to the presence that once dwelt here and beseech it for aid....

At first nothing happens, then small changes. The motion around you seems to cease, the wind dies, the insects and birds fall silent. Arsaces stands still as a statue, not reacting or perhaps stilled as the rest of the world seems to be.

The constant cold within you sharpens and doubles, then doubles again. The pain is nearly as bad as the burning spear being plunged into your heart before you slept.

A pressure fills the air and a distant rumbling draws your attention upward into the sky. The moon shifts, then splits into three equal discs that seem to gaze down upon you.

***LITTLE PRIEST***

No longer mere thoughts and images, uncountable voices speak the words, they seem to echo and are ragged with torment, men, women, children. The sound is terrible to hear and echoes in your mind.

***YOU CALL OUT TO ME FOR ANSWERS, YET IT IS NOT YOURS TO QUESTION MY DESIGN***

***YOUR HEART IS OPEN TO ME, I KNOW WHAT YOU SEEK***

***SACRIFICE UNTO ME, TASTE THE BLOOD OF A THOUSAND PURE SOULS. THEN YOU WILL FIND YOUR BELOVED OR SHE WILL FIND YOU***

Then something seems to burst inside you and the moon is back to normal, your surroundings in motion once again, you fall to the ground in agony, the hunger is upon you like never before and demands to be sated *now*.

Arsaces does not seem to have witnessed your exchange with your 'patron'.

"What has happened to you brother?" he asks.

What do you do?
>>
>>32695105
If we can suppress our hunger long enough to talk to him, tell him we just communed with the our God, the Pale Tree.

And then, tell him that it is time we hunt.

Bros, I told you about that goddamned tree. It's right there in the previous threads:

>Slowly, all that it was died & faded away. All except its hunger for the blood sacrifices it had been denied for so long & it's rage at being forgotten.

This does not sound like a fairy godmother you turn to.

Tell Arsaces that we have commonued with our god, but need to feed immediately and head off to the nearest sign of human life.

You try to speak to Arsaces, but can scarcely manage an agonised croak. You dig your fingers into the ground, the pain is impossible like every fibre of your being is being ripped apart.

"I see the hunger is upon you brother, it creeps upon you suddenly in this place. I will leave you to do what you must. I shall be at your monument stone should you wish to find me."

With that he turns and seems to simply vanish into the night, leaving you to your pain.

You roll onto your back, clutching your stomach. The pain continues to grow worse. Vapor begins to rise from your flesh. Your clothes begin to smoulder and the grass around you begins to blacken as if singed.

Suddenly your body bursts apart, dissolving into a huge greasy cloud of mist. your clothing bursts into flames along with anything flammable in the immediate area of where your body was.

The rolling fog that is you drifts across the fields, any conscious thought eradicated by the hunger. It envelops a small village and you are dimly aware of the warm presences who dwell there, some 183 people. You can feel their fear and confusion at this choking mist that has suddenly invaded their homes.

Within the space of a few moments, the little warm lights of life are snuffed out and your hunger is satisfied. You start to pull your form back together.

You coalesce into your normal, albeit naked body in the village square. A horrifying scene greets you as your physical senses return.

The dessicated corpses of the villagers lie in the streets and doorways of buildings, none have been spared. Their poses and the expressions frozen onto their faces speak of how they died in a state of mortal terror.

You are reminded of the fate of your own village, the faces of your long dead family seem to look back at you from each of your victims.

You have done this.

Dawn approaches, what do you do?
>>
>>32695776
find a wine cellar sleep
>>
>>32695776

I blame the tree for this. You can't entreat a malevolent god of undeath and human sacrifice and expect anything good to come of it.

Get some clothing from one of the villagers bodies. May as well lie in the street and wait for the dawn after that, a dead body wont seem out of place.
>>
>>32695776
return to the stone
>>
>>32695776
Sleep in a cellar after we find some clothes, think about how we can get the location of Kassa without dealing with the Douchebag Tree. Fantasize burning it to the ground. Wonder if the Sun God still exists.
>>
>>32696032
This, plus tearing out Octavia's heart and ramming it down her throat.
>>
>>32695897
I think staying here is a pretty bad idea. We don't really look human anymore
>>
>>32695776
FUCKING AWESOME

The Tree will be most happy at the sacrifice we committed in It's name!

Sleep in a cellar, get some clothes on, abnd meet up with Arsaces.
>>
>>32696032
Your butthurt about the tree is ridiculous, it's our own decisions that have lead to our situation
>>
>>32695893
>>32695897

You quickly strip a peasant man's body of his trousers and jacket. His dead eyes stare into you until you gently close them, more for your own sake.

So dressed you make for the cellar of the nearest building. You just make it inside before the Sun rises. You black out.

You awaken in the same cellar, and quickly head back out into the street. The corpses remain there, though some have started to bloat, others are being fed upon by rats and crows.

The events of the past few weeks, your lonely life as one of the undead & now knowing you are responsible for this horrific tragedy is too much for you to bear.

*Roll for sanity loss!*

You mind has fractured somewhat under the strain of your unnatural existence.

**You are now subject to extremely convincing auditory/visual hallucinations under certain circumstances**

However your slightly warped mind has given you some insight what happened to you last night.

**You have gained a new supernatural ability: Mistform. (not as grandiose or destructive as what you displayed last night, you are able to turn into a cloud of fog. Any clothing you are wearing will burst into flames when you sublimate, as will anything else flammable closeby)**

Somehow, your necklace survived your transformation and remains just as it was.

What do you do now?

(Will be a short delay, getting a snack)
>>
>>32696373
Run away from the town and cry a little bit, cause we did just murder almost 200 people.
>>
>>32696373
Waste not, want not.

Glut yourself on the corpse-blood and invite Arsaces over for lunch.

If not that, then find Arsaces and chill with him, talk about Carpathia and all that fun stuff.
>>
>>32696574

The bodies were already drained, furthermore you can only derive sustenance from the blood of the living, not the dead.

Stagger off to the monument stone, openly weeping.

>>32696616
Ah, okay, thanks for clearing that up.

Then we meet up with Arsaces then
>>
>>32696758
>>32696515
Pretty sure we have blank sockets where our eyes should be; that might impede our ability to cry.
>>
>>32696515
>>32696621

You flee the village, you do not wish to contemplate what you did to the poor doomed people that once lived there.

You make your way back to the monument you erected in a daze, then cling to it as if it were capable of offering you absolution. You begin sobbing for all the lives you have taken, the monster you have become and the simple, happy life you might once have lived had you not chased your pride and lust for wealth into that cursed forest.

Blood flows in rivulets from your empty eyesockets, staining your clothes and doubtless making you look even more terrifying than you already do.

You feel a hand on your shoulder you in a gesture of reassurance.

"I will not tell you what happened in the valley was not your fault. A man must be master of his own fate."

It is Arsaces, he stands behind you.

"But know that you are not alone in having committed atrocities..... and then regretted them. It is not for me to forgive you but I do not judge you."

What do you do?
>>

>>32696935
Lets talk about Carpathia
>>
>>32697005
>>32697006

You thank Arsaces for his words. They seem to instill in you a resolve not to give in to despair or the terrible hunger within you.

You ask him of Carpathia, of Mother and what happened there.

He is obviously uncomfortable even speaking of it, the memory evidently disturbs him.

He tells you that Mother was always unpredictable and often disappeared for long periods without telling anyone where she was going or what she was doing. She had just returned from one such disappearance when she began her twisted crusade.

cont...
>>
>>32697754

“She began destroying tribes, then towns, then cities. Assaulting them with her great and terrible powers and for no discernable purpose. She was not doing it for food or slaves or power, she simply eradicated them down to the last living soul.”

“Her first children, Uldin and Csreka came to her. Asking why she was doing this, protesting that it was madness! In reply she turned on them. Csreka was slain, as were many of their own fledglings. Uldin, the greatest of us barely escaped, crippled with grief. For Csreka was his twin sister both in life and death.”

“He sent word to us of Mother's rage and bid us gather in Carpathia, the land where mother had bid her army of slaves and worshippers to construct a huge temple-palace carved into the mountainside.”

“By the time word reached the rest of us, the truth of Uldin's words was obvious. Mother had cut a swathe of devastation and death across Eastern Europe into the Levant and her wrath was not limited to the living, she had destroyed any of her own kind she came across.”

“So we hatched a plan. We knew we could not slay Mother, death cannot touch her. But Uldin told us of a weapon that was found with her when one of the Hunnic tribes awoke her 3000 years ago.”
>>
>>32697787

“It was a golden spear, anathema to our kind. None of us could wield it, for Uldin had tried and the mere touch of it had left his arm a charred ruin that will not heal to this day.”

“So we conspired with the living. We trained them to exploit our weaknesses and armed their greatest warrior with the spear, in exchange for their aid in striking Mother down. These were the first true vampire hunters. Forged by our own hands.”

“We confronted mother in her temple, all of us, all the firstborn save you it would seem. The hunters held up their end of the bargain and an elite group of 100 of them accompanied us.
There was no reasoning with her, so we fought a terrible battle.”

“Of the 16 of us, her remaining children that opposed her only 5 survived. Of the humans only 9 walked away to tell of it. But we put her to sleep with that spear thrust through her heart. Sealed her in a sarcophagus of stone and collapsed the mountainside over her temple.”

“I was there at the end brother & I saw the truth writ in every fibre of her being."

"She hates us, all her children and her children’s, children. She hates the living as well. She hates the world we have built. She would tear it all down if she could and kill everyone in it.”

“We each have our own thoughts as to why, but ultimately it doesn’t matter. For the good of the world, she must stay buried in the mountain.”

How do you react?
>>
>>32697831
"was there any bit of her left at the end?

I say we find a way to ditch Arsaces.

We make for Carpathia alone. Our love awaits us.

I think the best choice is to seal our selves in with her, fuck the tree if she is so far gone no use waking her up. but being next to her would be nice.

>>32697890

We know she's alive, we've felt it. The golden spears only put us to sleep until someone woke us up. Same is likely true for her.

>>32697831

Ask him why he thinks she hates them.

>>32697910

Let's not be hasty Anon, she was trying to destroy the world. It's safe to say she's changed abit.
>>
>>32697975
I think if we wake her, the memory of us will bring her to her senses, and we can seek our happily-ever-after somehow.

And if not, then we let the world burn together.

Also, OP, I like the implication that the historical event known as the Black Death was linked to Kassa's rampage.

I do not doubt the accuracy of your story, but I must learn more. Are there any human accounts, or have any of our kind documented it?
>>
>>32698088
>>32697989
>>32697890

>was there any bit of her left at the end?

"Even with the spear and all our combined might, she was beyond our power to destroy. She sleeps & must never be awoken"

>Why does she hate everything?

"My view is that the truth of that is to be found in us. The ones she chose to spread her state of living death to."

"Her first were Csreke and Uldin. They are also the youngest, only children when she brought them across. Uldin is also the only son who does not have 'our look'. My belief is that they were created to replace the natural children she had, or perhaps imagined herself having when she was alive."

"Then we come to us. Why do we all have the same features? Why did she seek out men who looked as we do then make them like herself? I believe that when she was a living girl she lost a lover who looked as we do & we are all simply an attempt to salve her wounded heart."

"She hates us because these attempts failed. We cannot replace what she's lost, we only remind her of the loss itself. The whole world is the same. The eldest of us feel that burden too, the living world is no longer recognizable and each of us long for a return to our living homes. But they no longer exist."
>>
>>32698317
>we are all simply an attempt to salve her wounded heart

Also, lets ask about Octavia and wether or not hanging with her would have been a good idea.

>>32698458
Still better then evil Treesus.
>>
>>32698584
>lets ask about Octavia and wether or not hanging with her would have been a good idea.

"Ah Octavia, pity her for Mother's hatred cut her deep. She lost many of her friends that night. She is not of sound mind and has little concern for the living. The pain and loss she has suffered has made her cruel, but she is also fiercely loyal once her trust is earned and generous to those closest to her.
