Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can interrupt a string of actions.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When rolling 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted, including those with dice rolls or extra spaces.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

Recent Events Summary:

Erebus has returned.

Donovan, Auriel, Abigail, and the others barely escaped from the oncoming Vigil cruiser by slipping through the Skysever. The winds themselves seem hell-bent on holding back Erebus - but it's only a matter of time before he breaks through into Venia. At the same time, the core of the world has reached its breaking point. Without Shadow's help, Venia will be anihillated in the unleashed energies of Chaos.

Donovan worked with his allies to travel inside Geb and destroy the parasite of Light keeping him maddened. Two other goals remain: to restore Leviathan, and gain control of Xile, so that the Skysever might be used to attack Erebus more directly.

While the knight moves with the elementals toward the edge of the eastern wastes, Ila joins Tyrael, Yi Fang, and Arcturis and Gerald Flint in trying to gain control of the sky engine.

The elementals are safe, and Xile is secure. Now, you confront Erebus.

In the distance, high above, you feel a twinkle of Shadow. Erebus is turning about.

And then he dives, puncturing a hole in the clouds. They block your view of the ground below, but you hang on to the nearby railing anyway.

----------
----------
whoooooooooAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABOOOOOOOOOOOOM
----------
----------

For a moment, you can't see.

Your vision clears slowly. It's splotchy, as if you were staring at the sun - but they are spots of darkness, not light, from a sun of darkness.

The clouds below have evaporated. An explosion of power like nothing you have ever felt is -still- erupting from the surface of Venia. The ocean itself has been obliterated in a miles-wide circle. Steam rises from a cracked, molten crater.

The darkness sweeps up in the shape of a rising plant stalk, a terrible blossom of energy.

And then the shockwave hits you.

The entire ship shakes like a raindrop in a thunderstorm. Everyone holds on to display screens, chairs, rails, and each other, anything they can get their hands on. It feels like it will never end.

But it does. You climb back to your feet, pulling Adavan off the floor where he was sprawled with one arm around your ankles. "Are you alright?"

"Never better. Elements save us." He stares out the window at the explosion. "If he has more than one of those, we're finished. That could breach the core!"

Fang brushes his robes. "That was unexpected." He looks at the elementals. "Did you manage to hit him?"

Geb makes a small shrug. "Made ice-rock. He smashed into it harder than we smashed into him. Must have hurt some."

"Probably," Leviathan says. "We didn't stay to find out. That one might have stung a bit."

You feel another tingle of Shadow. Hecate is the first to move. "He's firing a spell at us!"

The Nemesis lurches to the side as Auriel loops her hands back around the controls - but she's still recovering from the aftershock of the explosion. The energy crashes into the side of the ship.

You don't notice the damage readout of the ship change, but the momentum forces you to roll. Everyone lunges for grip again as you're sent into a tailspin. Auriel wrestles with the console, struggling to get the Nemesis under control.

As the plate-glass of the ship turns to face the crater, you see it - feel it, rather. Erebus.

"Auriel, he's coming!" you shout.

Auriel slaps a button. The armored shutters slam closed over the main windows around the ship. Almost immediately, a huge dent is blown in them. The dent creases inward with repeated metallic banging.

The sounds echo around the room. Erebus slams himself against the ship's armor. Everyone stares at the shutters. Fang gets a spell ready. Leviathan is holding a spear of ice.

The shell of the airship holds. More banging. Other dents appear in the armor.

"He's looking for a weak point," Hecate says.

"If he gets inside, we're sitting ducks," Fang says. "We need to keep him busy!"

>con't

It's only a matter of time before Erebus finds a crack in the Nemesis's defenses. You've got to get to the hangar.

"I will teleport myself, Geb, and Leviathan to the outside of the ship," Hecate says. "We will engage him directly. I shall attempt to discern if Shadow is whole."

"I'm coming with you," Raphael says. "You'll need my light."

"Not yet," Hecate says. "With the Eclipse active, you'll be vulnerable. I will return if I need reinforcements."

"We don't need to move at the moment," Auriel says. "I'll try to get some Wind from the dynamo to shield the hull. That should slow him down a bit."

"I'll summon help," Fang says. "Sir Flint. Take Abigail to the fighter. You need to be ready to launch. Adavan, go with them."

You turn for the doors. "Abby, let's go!"

Abigail nods to you. Lien is right on your heels. You start a jog through the Nemesis to the hangar in the back of the ship.

Shadow flickers at you. You flinch, but it's just Ila. "You scared the shit out of me!" you shout.

"Sorry." She falls in step with you.

"Where are you going?"

"With you."

"It's too dangerous."

"It's too dangerous for all of us," Ila says. "This is for Shadow. I have to be there!"

You're a bit taken aback. She's not the type to raise her voice. You're not sure if that's a reason to bring her, or tell her to go cool off...

"Well, if the four of us can't wrestle Shadow free, I don't know who can," you say.

Ila just puts her head down and runs.

You feel the vast prescences of Earth, Water, and Spirit move outside the hull. An explosion of Water shakes the ship. It rails against a wall of Shadow that comes up to meet it. You can feel rock thrown at the Shadow, too, adding the power of a landslide to a tidal wave.

All the lights in the hallway shut off. The feeling of magic vanishes. In the sudden darkness, you trip over part of the floor, but Lien catches your arm, dragging you up so you can keep running. The ship lists to the side. You can feel yourself dropping.

"What the hell was that?!"

"Shadow's magic!" Abigail shouts. "He countered their spells!"

The acceleration increases. You put your hands on the walls to keep your balance. "We're falling out the sky!"

The intercome crackles. Auriel's voice snaps through the hall. "Brace!"

The dynamos shoot back online all at once. The floor groans underneath you. The engines roar to right the ship. You're not quite sure how your group manages not to end up in a tangled pile on the ground, but despite everyone flailing to keep balance, you miraculously all evade each other.

More magic erupts outside the ship. Even through the hull of the Nemesis, you can clearly feel the clash of the elementals. It's a maelstrom of Water, Earth, and Spirit, and Shadow.

And Fire?

Abigail glances back at you. "Do you feel that? Three of them!"

You give her a befuddled look. Lien answers your confusion. "Dragons, Donovan! Fang summoned them!"

"Oh. Good! Shadow always hated fire, that should do - "

Your vision goes blank for a moment. When you wake up, you're on the ground, half on top of Ila. Only Lien is still standing, but his hands are on his temples. "She's not...holding back."

>con't
>>
Then you feel the headache. You clench your teeth to ignore it, push your feet under you, and drag Ila off the ground. She's groggier than you are. Abigail, though, springs back up without a blink. "Well, gosh, that was strong!"

"For some people," you say. You look at Lien. "Maybe we're getting old."

You hear Hecate's voice echo in your head. <Shadow is inside Erebus, but he's contained - it feels as a dynamo. He's being syphoned for energy. I am unsure how to breach Erebus's seal.>

You see Abigail's face change. Her eyes are wide and shimmering.

You know how she's feeling. In a tiny, cold part of your heart, you were afraid he might be totally gone. Maybe you'd be able to handle it. But for Abigail...it's different. She needs Shadow. They need each other, really.

Abigail's voice cracks as she shouts. "Come on!" She sprints ahead.

The battle rages on. Hecate's Spirit doesn't waver, but Geb and Leviathan are taking heavy blows from the Shadow. They're running interference so Hecate can work on Erebus. On ocassion, you feel Fire harrassing Erebus's aura, but it's usually short-lived.

You reach the hangar. The fighter is already prepped. It's a five-seater, so at least there's room for everyone. The tiny craft sits pointed at a hatch that's ready to open. You run up inside and take seats. You situate yourself at the main control console. "Alright, I'm driving. The rest of you are on weapons. It's easy - point and fire."

"You know how to fly this thing?" Lien asks.

"Fang showed me on the way here," you say. "I've got the most experience with airships out of us, so...shouldn't be too bad."

Lien shuts his eyes. "Yes. Right."

What do you do?

>>
>>32682363
Is Adavan perceptive enough to tell us when Erebus's strength is waning? I'd hate to distract Hecate, and flying in circuits around the retardedly fast Shadow monster that can shoot laser beams sounds like a bad idea. It's not like it'll take that long to get there.

><Shadow is inside Erebus, but he's contained - it feels as a dynamo. He's being syphoned for energy. I am unsure how to breach Erebus's seal.>
How have we managed to destroy dynamos? Aside from consumption, we've also burnt them out by using too much energy. Not sure if we want to try that route.

>>
>>32682511

>>
>>32682579
Seconding this
>>
>>32682478
"Burning it out" is probably not a viable course of action in this case, yeah.

Since Erebus probably doesn't have a physical dynamo shell inside of himself (assuming he had to leave behind the Core room of Vigil when he came out to attack things personally), it means he's going to have to maintain some amount of manual inward focus on keeping Shadow locked down and spinning efficiently. The Barrier has been likened to a dynamo shell, so I'd bet something along those lines is what Erebus is using.

So basically anything that would accelerate the decomposition of the Barrier probably helps erode the shell keeping Shadow under control.

Using Chaotic magic pulls energy through the barrier, which weakens the shell. By that logic, Abby, Ila and Adavan using the abilities granted to them by Shadow might destabilize the barrier around him.

It's worth a shot, at least. It's not like they would've avoided using their abilities anyway.

Your hands are itching on the controls, but a thought strikes you. "She said like a dynamo, right?"

"Yes," Lien tells you.

"We've got a damn dwarf on this ship. He's on the bridge. Can you speak with Steward telepathically?"

"I'll try."

Lien closes his eyes for a moment. It's a very long silence.

He nods and opens his eyes. "Dynamo shells are thought to be elementally neutral, but that's not true. There's a flaw in their construction originating from the earth magic that they were originally designed with. If we can hurt Erebus, a concentrated Wind should be able to do it." He shrugs. "I don't know if that applies to this situation, but I don't have any other ideas."

"Well, we've got every single Wind in the world. And even if it does work, it doesn't like shadow very much, so it'll bang him up if nothing else. Tell Fang to be ready for our signal."

Lien communicates you message. Abigail leans over to you. "...Sir Flint? I could probably help."

"With what? The Wind?"

Abigail nods. "...I've got, um, something I can do that is related to Wind. It's tough to control, but it's an option."

You have very distinct memories of the times Abigail did things she couldn't really control. But...every option needs to be on the table. "Alright. I'll let you know."

"Got it."

It's only been a few moments. What do you do now?

"Lien, keep track of Hecate," you say. "Wait for her to let us know when it's safe to move."

He nods. "Exposing ourselves early probably isn't a good strategy."

A moment passes. You can hear the sound of everyone breathing inside the fighter. Your hands are shaking a bit. You work your grip on the controls, trying to force them still.

"Hey," Abigail says, "is it just me, or does it feel like - "

The hangar bay door bends inward with a sudden clang.

Everyone's gaze whips toward the viewport of the fighter. The metal door continues to bend. The steel screeches as rivets and bolts pop free one after another. You can feel the Wind outside the hull of the ship resisting the force that is distending the Nemesis, but it's not enough to stop it altogether.

A dark hand juts out from where the metal is bent enough to expose the hangar to the outside air. It pulls. It's like watching someone roll up the lid of a tin can. Erebus bends the door halfway open, then tosses it out. It tumbles down to the ground.

Good point. You could open the viewport hatch and fire out that way.

It's roughly teardrop shaped. No wings, because it doesn't depend on generating lift for flight. The weapons are concentrated in small cannons under the fuselage. A round viewport covers the front end, giving a good field of view in the direction of motion.

"Everyone get a spell ready!" you shout.

You draw your sword and pop the hatch.

Erebus is right in front of you. No time.

You stand there, your sword glowing slightly, the sigil already formed. He could kill you right now.

He looks at the simple Light magic that is sharpening your blade. <Do you think that will hurt me, Sir Flint?>

"This will!" Abigail shouts. A beam of concentrated shadow flies out of her scythe and slices Erebus in two at the waist.

He begins reforming immediately. A slash like that won't stop him. <You should know better, Abby.> His arm reaches for you almost lazily.

Her slash didn't stop him, but it slowed him down enough for you to get a swing ready. Your sword comes down with all the power you can muster.

At the point of contact, Light erupts from you. You're not good at controlling it, but this close, you don't really need much finesse. You pour yourself into the magic, pushing your mana forward as hard as you can. Light fills the room. The spell detonates in Erebus's face. Fragments of shadow scatter through the hangar.

You fall down, drained, and punch the controls. The fighter leaps forward - but a blast of Shadow makes the engine stutter. The craft hits the floor and skids across the metal. You slam the ignition repeatedly, trying to restart the engine.

A wall of ice flies in the door and slams into the shadow behind you. Leviathan is here. Geb storms in right behind him. The steel of the hull peels itself up as he walks across it, lifting across his body like living armor. Hecate is hovering above you. <Lien, are you alright?!>

"Never better, my lady!"

You feel something fade away. It's...shadow. It's gone, like a blanket lifted from the sky. The Eclipse is over.

A great red dragon roars from the end of the hangar door. Fire licks at its lips. You're glad its on your side.

What do you do?

>get the hell out
>fire when you have a clear shot
>help distract Erebus for the elementals
>some other strategy
>>
>>32684396
>help distract Erebus for the elementals

We need to gain an advantage for the plan to work anyway.
>>
>>32684396
We need to get him out of the hanger. I suppose we should leave and try to get Geb and Levaithan to manhandle him out.
>>
>>32684396
this whole situation blows. We need the nemesis' firepower.
>>
>>32684396
>some other strategy
Get Erebus the hell out of the ship. Before I go into details I just have to know if he's scattered or still in relatively one piece.
>>
>>32684396

Can we get Fang to use the Sky Sever to force Erebus out of the hanger?
>>
>>32684457

He's in relatively one piece. Chunks of him blew off and shriveled up. That's normal for Shadow.
>>
>>32684478
I'd rather avoid using the Skysever on him until we're ready to make a run on the Shadynamo.
>>
>>32684478
I was under the impression that redirecting the skysever from vigil would fuck us
>>
>>32684478
You have to be outside to get sky severed. Not inside the airship.
>>
>>32684516

Fang can use a small portion of it without loosing focus on keeping Vigil contained.
>>
>>32684482
Okay, that makes it easier. Not sure if it's possible, though.

Have Geb and Leviathan encase Erebus as best as they can. Not for long just hold him in place. Then, have Hecate spirit lash that encasement to the fighter, we punch it, drag the thing out of there. I was thinking about lashing it to the dragon, but I don't know how well they follow complex commands.
>>
>>32684482
Hey SM I was wondering, if the Elemental Lords have some similarities to Erebus at all, would you consider the Sky Engine to be an Artifact that Aeolus made?
>>
>>32684539
>You have to be outside to get sky severed
Nope. The Windburn functions in-doors, and that's just manipulating the Sky-Sever. It's still probably preferable not to have the Sky-sever doing shit inside the ship.
>>
>>32684482
What shape is Erebus even taking? It was never clear to me in the narration. I think he was still in the deceptive John Nyx human form when he went all 2spooky slasher first taking over, but I don't see why he'd stay that way.

Is he just a giant shadow blob?
>>
>>32684563
>attaching Erebus to the fighter
Fuck that noise.
>>
Rolled 98

>>32684604
I think he's just a vaguely humanoid blob.
>>
>>32684604
I figure he either looks like a giant dick or Hodor, since both of those make thematic sense for Erebus.
>>
>>32684604

He still sees himself as human, so probably a basic human shadow like figure. He's not the beastly or amorphous figure that we would take on to scare the piss out of people. He knows what he is and has no reason to stray from that. More importantly, he doesn't need to.
>>
>>32684610
With a spirit lash that can be dissolved once we're clear of the Nemesis. I'm probably over thinking this, but I'm trying to get him and us out of the ship in one turn.
>>
>>32684604
>deceptive John Nyx human form
Mr. Anderson was originally a human, there's nothing deceptive about it.

That's not very efficient for fighting though, so I'd assume he's blobby.
Or a perfect sphere for MAXIMUM ORDER.

>>
>>32684604

You duck down into the craft, pulling Abigail down with her, just in case she had any dumb ideas. "Everyone get down and stay down!"

You keep your eyes above the edge of the viewport. Leviathan keeps up his assault on Erebus, throwing ice at Erebus in waves. Erebus holds up a wall of shadow fractured with white lines, and the ice simply sinks in without doing any damage.

<Leviathan, don't use pure magic!> Hecate shouts. <If he's prepared, he can absorb the mana for himself!>

What Leviathan does, though, is keep Erebus busy. Geb wades in under the flurry of hail and slams a fist into Erebus's crystalized shield. The air in the hangar roars with the impact. The shield holds.

And Geb hits it again. And again. The power of a volcanic eruption is condensed into every blow. You cover your ears as the air starts to howl for trying to get out of the way of Geb's punches.

The shield cracks. The next blow shatters it.

Geb's fist smashes through Erebus, embedding itself in his center. No - Erebus dodged! He twists his body around Geb's arm, engulfing him up to the elbow.

Geb lifts Erebus off the ground and slams him into the adamantium floor of the hangar. Erebus hangs on. So Geb lifts him again, and smashes him back the other way, and then back again. The hangar floor cracks and bends under the pressure.

>con't
>>
The fourth blow throws Erebus free. Geb turns to move after him - but Erebus has already blinked behind the god of earth. How did he recover that fast?! A cone of Shadow forms at Geb's backside.

<SHADOW!> Abigail's voice echoes telepathically through the room. <FIGHT HIM!>

Erebus freezes. The spell stutters.

Leviathan sweeps in from the side, punching Erebus not so much with a fist, but with a wall of water. Erebus flies sideways, and into a waiting rush of dragon fire. He stumbles out the other side, black ooze smoking and cracked. The cracks fade quickly - he's constantly regenerating.

Hecate catches him from his blind side with a storm of Spirit. He holds up several limbs to shield himself and charges through the spell, trying to catch her head on. She teleports to the other side of the room, but he follows her with his own Blink.

What do you do?

>shout at Erebus. Try to get through to Shadow!
>fire a beam of light to give Hecate a chance to evade
>tell Lien to ask Fang for a burst of the skysever

"SHADOW!" you shout. "HOLD HIM STILL!"

You raise your hand and fire Light.

The explosive beam charges across the room. Erebus manages to dodge, but he's forced to back off from his attack on Hecate. She teleports away before the beam bores a hole through the wall.

And it keeps on going, melting through the walls of the ship. You stare at your hand for a moment.

"Get down, Donovan!" Lien shouts.

You feel the Wind, and see the green streaks in the air. You throw yourself to the floor.

A cyclone forms inside the hangar. A shrieking skull rests at its center. The force of the wind starts to drag the fighter across the floor. A massive earthen hands grabs you, anchoring you down. Geb's other hand locks into one of the cracks in the floor that he made.

Erebus and Fang's dragon are both sucked into the skysever. The winds slice and shred at Erebus's skin. It carries him out the hanger door and on, still keeping him trapped. Leviathan flies after them, boosted by a stream of water. Hecate vanishes a moment later.

You hear the sound of metal bending. More magic. They're fighting outside again.

Geb grumbles, then reaches up to the ceiling of the hangar. His hand melts into the adamantium, and the rest of his body is pulled along right into the steel. And then, he's gone - probably to emerge on the other side.

"Well, that was something," Lien says.

"What do we do now?" Ila asks.

"Sir Flint!" shouts a voice. It's Raphael! He's flying across the hangar. He alights through the hatch of the fighter. "Sensors told us Erebus got inside, but I suppose that's over with. What's our plan of attack?"

>Erebus has got to be weakened after that exchange. Fly the fighter out there and shoot at him

We should avoid getting too close to Erebus, as he now knows that Shadow can interfere with him when we're involved. Erebus will want to finish us if possible to stop that shit. We need to keep out eyes on him so that Fang can use the Skysever on the Shadynamo as soon as there seems to be an opening.

"Everybody buckle in, we're getting out there. Highest, can you get a Sigil ready? I can use my mana to power it."

Raphael nods. "I've got a few tricks up my sleeve, Sir Flint. Let's go."

You grab the hatch of the fighter, slam it closed, then jump into the seat in front of the control console. The engine hums for a moment, and then you rocket out the torn-open bay door.

The Nemesis is still hundreds of feet in the air and cruising steadily out to sea, leaving behind the massive orb of air still encompassing Vigil. You figure Auriel wants this to happen as far away from civilization as possible. You couldn't agree more - and the further you are away from Erebus's ship if something happens, the better.

You turn the fighter back. Within the forest of the Nemesis's spires, decks, and flares is a battle between the elements. Geb is using parts of the hull's black-stained adamantium and hurls them as spears. As Erebus dodges the projectiles, he's dealing with Leviathan's water and ice constantly dogging at his heals. You see Hecate focused on the top of a windowed platform, and can feel the waves of Spirit. She's attacking something else - maybe his mana reserves? You're not sure.

It seems like Geb and Leviathan are both trying to corral Erebus toward the business end of the main lightning cannons, but it's not working - right now both sides are holding steady without gains. At least you're fighting in the sunlight. That should slow Erebus's regeneration.

You position the fighter above the fray, near one of the wide wings of the Nemesis. You angle the craft slightly, set it to hover, and then open the cockpit. Wind whips across your face. You brush the hair out of your eyes. "Highest, what do you have for me?"

"A detonation cage," he says.

"What's that?"

"Power it and find out!"

Raphael's sigil glows white in front of you. You place your hands on it and shove your mana forward.

>con't
>>
Gold lines form around Erebus. He's caught off-guard and runs headfirst into the wall of the cage. Leviathan's water batters him against the magic railings.

Eight orbs of light appear around the cage. Raphael opens his palm. Light spears between the eight orbs, creating four intersecting lines that pierce the cage through the center. Erebus contorts himself to avoid the attack.

Raphael clenches his fist. The very core, where the spears intersect, detonates in an explosion of Light - but it's matched by a roar of darkness. A pulsing wave of shadow overtakes the Light, negating it. The spell fizzles. "Light!" Raphael says. "How do we supposed to fight him if he can negate that?!"

You barely hear what Ila mutters over the wind. "Very carefully."

The wave of darkness continues outward. The last one was smaller - this one is huge. You gun the throttle, but you don't react quickly enough. The fighter's engine dies on contact with the sphere of shadow.

The craft plunges down for the hull of the Nemesis. Ila, Abigail, and Raphael take wing, escaping out the top of the fighter. Abigail grabs your arm, and Ila takes Lien. They dump you off on the hull before skidding to a halt themselves.

The fighter crashes onto the Nemesis, rolls, hits a tall fin, and then tumbles down into open air. It's not long until it crashes into the water.

A roar of shadow erupts next to you. You grab Lien and throw the both of you behind the nearby fin. The magic is deflected off the ship's hull.

You get to your knees in time to see Abigail soaring through the air on black-steel wings. Erebus is right behind her.

>>
>>32686424
I figure as long as we aren't retarded, it'll come down to whether SM wants to force his bitter-sweet ending and kill Abigail as Shadow returns.

We still have to deal with the real happening and fix the core. Which presents the far larger opportunity for bittersweet with Shadow sacrificing himself (probably alongside the other three elementals). He could also go full bittersweet and have Abigail die saving Shadow and Shadow die saving Venia. Which would also parallel nicely with the dream vision from the Archonium. And be deliciously ironic due to the perceived parallels between the Temerity and Erebus fights.
