You are Carmen May and you're actually kind of bored.

A few days after coming back from the mountains, you continue to practice your new found powers. You and Jessica talked about the date for a while, but she wants to put it off until next week since she ditched school to play in the mountains with you. Well, she got to play, you mostly got to fight mountain lions, get messed with by your mentor and chased around all day. You begrudgingly accept however, since she did take the time off to spend time with you.

You haven't heard much at all about the whole Armada thing, but there's still a lot of scrambling around on all fronts. You however, are just itching for Beatrice to tell you to do something, anything.

"You realize we have a crisis right? Fucking off to the mountains is not helping things at all, Kozel." Kwan slams his fist on the counter. "I don't even know why I put up with your shit. 'Training' that one or whatever the hell you were doing is completely unnecessary. She doesn't even have any business being a Vampire in the first place." What's his problem anyway?
>>
>>32673507
Beatrice sighs and puts her hand up. "Stop. talking. so loudly, and besides she wanted to help and because of her you have a lead that you want me to check out." you hear Beatrice laugh "The kid may not have been one of the best picks for being sired but she has potential, so stop being an ass whenever she's in the room." she pauses "She's probably going to take my place as your enforcer you know."

What?

>Keep listening.
>Jump into the conversation.
>>
>>32673514
>Keep listening.
We should talk to her about it later, this isn't the time.
>>
>>32673514
>Keep listening.
>>
>>32673514
>Jump into the conversation.
"Wait, I am? I mean, of course I am! Hahaha, yes, Carmen the enforcer, yup."
>>
Letting curiosity get the best of you, you sit quietly on the stairs and continue to listen in on the conversation.

"So you're going to let her take over? Really?" Kwan asks incredulously. "When did you decide this?"

You hear Beatrice chuckle, "A while ago. She's eager, and despite being a little...forward she gets things done. I've seen her improve on that front by the way." you hear an exasperated sigh from Kwan. "So a random kid that was supposed to die is a good pick for being a rogue vampire hunter? Right, I'll believe it when I see it"

"Well yes, we're both going to see it, because she's the one that's going to apprehend one of the Armada guys on your list."

You feel a little excited, you've always wanted to be a cop. Well, this isn't really being a police officer but kind of close, right? You continue listening in.

"Well then, since you're so insistent, I'll let you hand the assignment over to her. But its on your head if she fucks up, got it?" Kwan says in a stern manner. Its about a minute before you hear him walk out of the bar.

You take this as your cue to stand get up and walk in.

"So are you ready to see what you're doing today kid?" Beatrice smiles. "You must be bored enough to sit around on the stairs."

>Make up an excuse
>But I didn't want to interrupt
>What was that all about? Enforcer?
>I'm ready to kcik some rogue ass.
>>
>>32673973
>What was that all about? Enforcer?
Let's hear it!
>>
>>32673973
>I'm ready to kick some rogue ass.
We're gonna show that pompous ass who gets shit done around here.
>>
>>32673973
>What was that all about? Enforcer?
Don't bother making excuses.
>>
>>32673973
>What was that all about? Enforcer?
Do we get a cool badge?
Gad to see you back!
>>
>>32673973
>>What was that all about? Enforcer?
>>I'm ready to kcik some rogue ass.
>>
"What was all that enforcer stuff about?" you excitedly bounce around. "You're an enforcer? Or were?" you continue to ask.

Beatrice sighs and shakes her head. "You know if he saw you like this he wouldn't believe a word I say. Anyway an enforcer is basically a vampire that just..well..enforces the rules. They go after the ones that break them." she rubs the back of her neck. "That's what I did before I sired you."

"...Do we get a badge?" "No. It helps when you're anonymous." Oh. "Why did you stop?" you ask. You can't help being curious at all.

Beatrice leans against the counter. "I know you don't remember much right after being sired, after making sure you didn't die or turn into a ghoul I ended up losing the rogue that almost killed you. Plus there was the fact that I just sired someone without warning or permission. To be honest it was a lot to take in." Beatrice looks a little wistful. "So anyway, onto the person you're going to capture."

"I'm ready to kick rogue ass!" you pump your fist in the air. Beatrice sighs. "Well anyway. The guy's name is Jack Pearson and here's the address he lives at, apparently the guy is an excommunicated magi and he's been associating himself with known Armada members." you nod. "This isn't a rogue vampire so you don't have to kill him, in fact you should avoid it. Any questions?"

>Yeah I have a few (writein)
>So are you sure I shouldn't have a badge?
>I think I got it. I'll do my best.

>I think I got it. I'll do my best. So where's his address?
>>
>>32674344
>>32674404
Guys! She just said Enforcers don't get badges, which means she never got a badge. We should totally make her one!
>world's best vampire sirer
>>
>>32674467
Excellent idea anon. But what of? I don't think we're good at metalwork, or anything.
>>
>>32674499
I bet the wolfu knows someone. Or we could always just buy her a coffee mug instead.
>>
>>32674552
We should ask her wolfu about itwhen we have time then. Let's put 'talk to Emma' on the schedule.
>>
"What am I supposed to do? Tell him 'hey, come with me to vampire jail so you can answer vampire questions.' and then beat him up if he resists?" you ask.

Beatrice chuckles and nods. "Pretty much. If he resists, beat him up. Its not like you have to read any rights or anything" well that was anti climatic. "So are you sure I don't get a cool badge? Not even a wallet one where I flash it? It'll probably impress Jessica." you take out your wallet and pose flashing your driver's license instead of a police badge.

"Why are you obsessed with badges?" Beatrice ruffles your hair, you pout. "So take him in, if he resists, beat him up. So what's the address?" Beatrice smiles and hands you a piece of paper with the address on it and a set of car keys. You examine the keys she gave you. "You're letting me drive the BMW? Really?"

"Well your blood is all over the backseat so you might as well have it. I prefer the Mercedes anyway. Now get out of here." Beatrice gives you a shove towards the door.
>>
>>32674702
You can't help yourself while driving the car, its probably the fastest thing you've ever driven, not that you've driven much. There were a couple of close calls with police patrols on occasion. Arriving at the destination from using the satellite map, you come across a pretty nice looking apartment building. You're kind of nervous, all Beatrice gave you was a set of handcuffs, you still have a knife in addition to your new abilities though. But how should you go about this? He's on the 5th floor and its a buzz in apartment. You sit in the car trying to think of a plan.

>What do you do?
>>
>>32674725
We gotta clean the car so we can use it to pick up Jessica. And we gotta see Emma about that badge/mug.

Oh, you mean with the mission? Well, let's drive over to his place and find a place to park, then go all official like, door-knocking and all.
>>
>>32674725
Let's stake out his place, then go see him when we know he doesn't have 'friends' around (or alternatively, follow him if he leave with said 'friends').
>>
>>32674725
Use your rad vampire powers to scale the fire escape
>>
>>32674725
Try to get there while he's out and search his place. That's how professionals do it!
>>
So the choices are

>Knock on his door official like
>Use vampire powers and climb the fire escape
>Stake out the place until it looks like he's alone
>Try to see if his place is empty and search around for clues.
>>
>>32675114
I vote for a combo of 2 and 4
>>
>>32675114
Sure, 2 and 4 is fine.
>>
>>32675134
>>32675148
Yeahl, alright. Backing.
>>
You find a safe place to park the car and head back to the apartment building, figuring the best way to go about it is to not go through the reception area at all.

Climbing the fire escape was pretty easy for you, though you hope nobody sees you. They might think you're trying to break in to someone's place or something. However, the fire escape only leads to the fifth floor hallway, not his actual room. Not discouraged you climb in through the window in the hallway, trying not to make any noise, you head over to the apartment room 504

You crouch and try to listen in to see if anyone is in the apartment itself. Not hearing anything, you check the door to see if its locked. Of course it is locked.

>Break the door down
>Force the door open(roll 1d20 bo3 to reduce noise)
>Try to pick the lock (roll 1d20 bo3)
>Knock on his door.
>>
>>32675353
>Knock on his door.
Might as well check if he's in there first.
>>

>>32675353
>Try to pick the lock (roll 1d20 bo3)

>>
>>32675400
Seconding
>>
>>32675400
Yeah, let's do it.
>>
Not wanting to take any chances, you tentatively knock on the door. Some part of you hoping he's not there and some part of you hoping that he is. After about a minute you do hear some foot steps coming to the door.

You briefly wonder if you should hide yourself but its too late when you see a young girl in her teens open the door. She looks you up and down and sneers. "Dad's not home, what do you want?"

>Force your way in(writein)
>Talk your way in(writein)
>>
>>32675720
>Talk your way in
Ask if she knows where he is, or when he'll get home. Either way, try to use our ~natural charm~ to be allowed to wait inside, and maybe snoop around a little.
>>
>>32675720
>Talk your way in(writein)
"I'm a close associate of your father, and we agreed to talk at his place here tonight, is he really gone? That guy...I can wait for him inside I guess"
>>
>>32675766
>>32675830
No reason not to combine these.
>>
>>32675720
>Talk your way in(writein)
"Hey kid, wanna buy some weed?"
Alright, maybe not. Let's say we're an acquaintance and ask to be let in while appearing non-threatening, with our charm it might work.
>>
You straighten up "I uh, I'm a close associate of your father. He said he would be here already but..." you try to look inside. "He's not here, do you know where he is or when he'll get home?"

The girl raises her eyebrow and gives you a look. "Are you his girlfriend or something?" you laugh. "No, I'm a business partner." you turn up the charm to 11.

"So can I wait inside for him? Its kind of cold outside you know. And I just drove for HOURS to get here. Its only fair right?" The girl stares at you for a moment and moves aside "He said he was going to be out for a few hours today, but I guess you can wait in the living room." you follow her into the cozy little apartment. She plops down on the couch and grabs the remote while you sit down next to her.

"So are you really not his girlfriend or something? I know he does stuff with his students at college sometimes." she continues to prod.

"Uh..."

>Make up something
>So what does he do for a living?
>So you're home alone...on a school day?
>>
>>32676061
>So you're home alone...on a school day?
Tell her we're actually into cute girls, if we're lucky she'll get creeped out and go to hide in her room so we can snoop.

>>32676061
>>So you're home alone...on a school day?
>>
>>32676061
How old is this daughter anyway?
>I'm positive, unless he moonlights as the cute chick I have a date with next week in his spare time. Knowing him, maybe I shouldn't discount the possibility, haha! But naah, my visit's pretty important.
>>
>>32676061
What time of the day is it?
>So you're home alone...on a school day?
>Make small-talk.
Let's try to pry about any friends or colleagues of his that she might have met or seen.

Yeah. Maybe try something like 'A colleague of mine said he'd talked to your dad last week, about a matter I've got to get updated on now, but I'm not so sure he actually bothered, the guy's a lazy fucker. Anyone over to talk business last week that you know of, or was he full of shit?'
>>
"So you're home alone on a school day?" you question, trying to change the subject. She pouts. "We move around a lot, so he just home schools me." he probably teaches her magic stuff. "You're just trying to change the subject. So are you his girlfriend or mistress or not?"

You laugh and flash her a winning smile. "Well unless he moonlights as the cute chick I have a date with next week in his spare time." you laugh "Maybe I shouldn't discount the possibility but my visit is pretty important."

She goes from smug to embarrassed in three seconds flat. "S-so you're into girls?" you nod. "What's it like?" you smile sheepishily. "Ah, well its kind of like...well its kind of hard to explain...anyway changing the subject, a colleague of mine said he talked to your dad about something I have to get updated on now. I'm not sure if he even talked to him, the guy is just notoriously laz--" she interrupts you. "Do you think I'm cute? What kind of cute? Jlaw cute or Selena Gomez cute?"

"Uhh...." she is sort of cute, too young for you though.

>Now's not the time for that.
>Jen Lawrence cute
>Selena Gomez
>Neither, you're cute in your own way?

>>32676593
>Neither, you're cute in your own way?

What does she look like by the way? Gotta come up with some other celeb to compare her to.

Closer to Dakota fanning, petite and blonde but with highlights
>>
>>32676647
Fuck, I don't know shit about celebs and using Dakota Fanning now seems kinda cheap.

>Oh, I've never been big on celebs, but you're much cuter than they are.
Add a charming wink, collect blabber-mouthed teenage appreciation. Then lets try our question one more time.

While we're at the clarification part, Carmen and Jessica look like their images, right? Might want to post them every now and again (maybe after OP for Carmen, and when Jessica appears in a session) so people remember, and images for the rest (Beatrice, Emma, Gail etc) would be nice too.
>>
>>32676824
Short bodybuilder with short, blonde hair. /tg/ always compares her to a dwarf.
>>
>>32676964
Ah, google didn't help me much. Still, somehow I doubt she'd appreciate being compared to a short body-builder, good-looking or no.
>>
"Neither, you're cute in your own way?" you state being pretty honest. "I don't know much about celebrities so I can't really compare.." the girl smiles brightly. "Thanks I barely get to leave the house anymore." she flops back on the couch. "Dad says its 'too dangerous' and whatever, I don't even get to make friends anymore."

"You pretty much don't know anyone here?" you ask. "Well yeah its not like I have a car or money to take the bus. I just usually sit here all day studying or watching TV and stuff. I do know a ton of people online though." she smiles and leans in. "I'm not supposed to tell you this but...since you know my dad you probably know about magic stuff already right?" you nod. "I can do some magic stuff he's been showing me how..want me to show you?"

>>
>>32677044
Just a quick suggestion, I would recommend having a separate paragraph for each person talking. It may take up more lines and a bit more empty space but it will be easier to read. Just my two cents, enjoying the quest so far
>>
>>32677180
>Sure, kid. Show me your moves!

>>32677255
Screw magic, we should clearly challenge her to a dance-battle.

>>32677298
Captain Falcon isn't a dancer, anon.
>>
>>32677342
Yeah, I know, but it still works for dancing. And fighting, but we don't want to fight her.
>>
You feel pretty wary about having her show you her magic. On one hand she can probably show you an idea of what her Dad knows and on the other hand she can probably end up incinerating you, this whole place and the people who are living here. However you can't sit there and debate with yourself, so you settle on yes.

"Sure thing, what did he teach you?" you ask.

"Some cool gem magic, watch!" she gets some emeralds out of her pockets and a cloth with a magic circle on it. She lays out the cloth and one of the gems on the center. She then puts her hands over them and concentrates. After a minute or so you see a faint glow coming from the emerald, it starts morphing into something different. You can't help but be fascinated, you haven't actually seen honest to goodness magic being used right in front of you.

The show is interrupted however, when you hear someone open the door. "Evelyn! I'm back!" she suddenly stops and yells back at the voice. "I said to call me Lyn dad!" oh shit.

>What do you do?

> Ah, Mr Pearson, good to see you. I hope you'll forgive the intrusion, I needed to speak with you as fast as possible. Your daughter was very kind to entertain me while I waited, however! Mind if we have a word in private?
It strikes me Beatrice never mentioned what we were supposed to do about any children of his when we brought him in...
>>
>>32677391

Quietly sit there. We're a Vampire, he's suspected to work with Armada. If we come in with "we're from work" then as long as he doesn't know us by face, we're someone sent by Armada to talk business with him.
>>
>>32677498
We arent sure of the extent of his abilities, diplomacy is nice but I'd prefer not to be incinerated
>>
>>32677540
Well, in addition to him maybe needing more preparation than he has to overpower us right now, I'm also betting on him being unwilling to do serious fighting in front of his daughter, and/or willing to talk. Doesn't seem that unlikely overall.
>>
>>32677576
True enough, maybe we could charm him right away. Might allow us to have a clean exit without too much hassle
>>
So the consensus is sit tight and greet him right?
>>
>>32677644
Looks like it. Hopefully we won't be proven (too badly) wrong in that. But since Beatrice didn't object to asking him nicely first, I'm guessing she at least didn't consider him a threat we couldn't take on in an even fight.
>>
You almost flinch at his arrival, but you stay put, not wanting to put a damper on things, he walks into the living room and pauses with a scared look on his face, muttering "oh god". Lyn doesn't really notice though and continues talking.

"Oh, this is...uh well anyway she says she's one of your business partners or whatever and said she needed to talk to you dad." Lyn says while pulling her feet up on the couch. "She's kind of cool, she said she's one of those lesbians like on TV." you can't really grinning at that.

"Well she kind of explained it all, but yeah. She's been pretty entertai-" you get cut off

"Lyn, go to your room. I have to talk with her for a moment." her father, Jack says in a stern tone.

"B-But..."

"Lyn just go, I'll talk to you later." he raises his voice, not quite shouting. You see her pout and pick herself up off the couch, shuffling to her room. Leaving you and Jack alone.

"You're not supposed to be here yet, get out of here and tell Armada to cool it."

>Keep up the charade, pretend you're Armada
>Correct him, he's going to vampire jail for a long time

You stare straight up at him, trying to see if he'll continue talking if you don't budge. He stares back for a minute. "So do they want me there earlier? Did the pressure from the other factions get to the red bitch and Stan?"

You stay silent and shrug. "I don't know, you tell me." you know exactly who the red bitch is but you don't know about a Stan.

He runs his hand through his thinning hair. "What the hell do you want? My daughter is in there and I agreed to extract mana from all of those poor people. Did you hurt her?"

What? Extracting mana?

>What do?

It sounds like he isn't working with Armada willingly. Maybe we can just tell him that we can get him out of this and get him to come along with us.
>>
>>32678235
> Did she look hurt?
> No, I didn't hurt her, and have no intention of hurting her.
Alright, here's the issue people: we can get him to leave with us by pretending to be Armada and maybe finish the mission before he knows what's going on. But I'll bet you 10000$ that ends up with his daughter in Armada hands, and ANOTHER annoying hostage situation, of which I've had enough. Alternatively, we can tell the truth and try to get him to come willingly, also bringing his daughter for protection. Could backfire if he won't come willingly though.

Thoughts?

Let's go for this.
>>
>>32678235
> No, I didn't and I won't. I'd imagine some of the people you've been in touch with won't be as accommodating, however. You're an asset now, and assets don't leave until they're all spent, so you'll either be doing a lot more of this mana extraction business, or your daughter's in real danger. Maybe she is either way.
> Won't you consider coming with me instead, and escape their clutches?
>>
>>32678320
>>32678346
These sound good.
>>
"Did she look hurt?" you sigh. "No I didn't hurt her and I don't have any intention to." you stand up and stretch. "It does sound like you don't want to work for Armada right?"

He looks relieved for a second and then terrified. "W-wait you're not Armada then...you're from one of those other factions? Shit!"

"W-wait! Hear me out! You're their asset right? Extracting mana and stuff like that?" he nods solemnly and you continue. "If you stop, do you think you or your daughter won't be in danger? I mean seriously. They probably won't let you go after this. So come with me, your daughter can come too"

The more you look at him, the more he looks kind of like a sad, broken man. He falls to his knees. "...You promise right? You promise they won't hurt her?" he holds back a sob. "She's the only person I have left..."

The guy already looks pretty beaten down, and in all likely hood his involvement with Armada will have severe consequences but.."Your daughter will be safe but you...I'll do my best to make you safe too, negotiations will probably be on the table hopefully."

Jack looks up at you, trying to see if you're lying or something. "You...alright I'll trust you." he gets off the floor and calls to his daughter. "Pack some clothes! We have to go somewhere for a few days."

You hear an exasperated "Again" come from the other room, but a few minutes later you see her packed and ready. You can't shake the look of surprise on your face.

Lyn smiles. "I've had practice. So where are we going this time?"

---
You all manage to pile into the car without a hitch. "I'm a pretty good driver, so hang on." you grin, exaggerating your abilities. But all you get from your audience is a cough from Jack and a look of wonder at the car from Lyn. "Wow, you must be pretty loaded, what's your name anyway?"

"Just call me Carmen." you laugh and speed off towards the bar.

After a while of driving, you can't really shake the feeling of being watched, which is odd. There's an unmarked van that's been following you for at least since you went on that exit.

>Make evasive maneuvers
>Keep on heading to the bar, pay the van no mind.
>Drive faster, its not like a couple of points on your license matters.

Thinking fast, you make some evasive maneuvers through town once you get off the highway. You concentrate twice as hard as before, making sure you don't end up crashing into anything or anybody while making the call.

"Beatrice, I have the guy, but I'm being followed and you didn't tell me anything about a kid." you feel a kick on the back of your seat.

"Woah slow down there kid. Ok first thing, you have the guy."
"Yes."
"And his kid? He had a kid?"
"Glad you know as much as I do."

You hear Beatrice chuckle. "Hey, this is the kind of thing I had to deal with when I was an Enforcer. Never mind that, you're being followed again?"

"Yes, I'm being followed by an unmarked van, the guy came peacefully but Armada probably doesn't want to let him go so easily. This also probably means they've been watching the apartment probably for a while."

"Carmen, breathe. You're in a pretty fast car and they're in a van. What do you plan to do?" Beatrice calmly asks.

The van is a few cars behind, but is still in pursuit of you, Jack just holds his hands in his head, muttering to himself.

"...so floor it? I drive really fast? That's it?" you ask. Beatrice simply answers with "Yes"

"You know me doing that won't end well right? And if I crash at high speeds you'll be out of a lead, one innocent teen, one pretty sweet car and one budding, sexy enforcer right?" you argue. "Besides they don't seem like they'll try hit the car or anything."

"Well do you have any better ideas? You're the one that's whining to me, that's what I would do." Beatrice counters. Of course, the woman who drives and owns ridiculously fast cars would drive ridiculously fast.

Part of you does want to see how well it handles going more than 60 miles per hour...you shake your head you can lose them in a different way.

"You're not very good at dispensing advice, are you?" you ask, sounding annoyed.

You hear her chuckle "Just get here in one piece." you hear a dial tone. She hung up, dammit. You check the mirrors, during your conversation the Van managed to catch up. Double dammit

>Take a big detour
>Drive faster towards the bar, they won't fight you there

>>
>>32680254
>>Drive faster towards the bar, they won't fight you there
Detours only work when you drive erratically to shake em. Otherwise it just gives them more chances to catch you.
>>
>>32680254
>Fuck it. follow her advice.

Getting over your initial fears, you look at Jack and then her daughter in the back seat. "Hope you guys have your seat belts on." you say while smiling a little nervously.

"Why?" Lyn inquires, looking excited.

"Because of this." you answer and completely floor it and maneuver past some cars. "Isn't this dangerous?!" Jack yells at you.

"Yes, but getting caught by Armada is also dangerous. So is working with them, but hey, lets not judge." you answer. Jack quickly shuts up and holds on to the dashboard.

You quickly lose the Van and hope no cops try to chase after you or stop you. You can't believe how grateful you are about the fact there's no speeding cameras here. Very soon, you arrive at the bar in a screeching halt, putting the car in park and getting out. "Come on, hurry up and get in!"

Jack and his daughter do as your say and quickly, as you make sure that the dreaded van hasn't caught up to you. As soon as the other two is inside, you rush yourself inside as well. You shut the door behind you and lock the door.

Beatrice smiles and waves at you while Emma grabs and hugs you. "Are you alright? That sounded dangerous!"

You balk at that. "You had me on speakerphone?"

Emma smiles and hugs you tighter with one arm while pinching your cheek with the other. "Yup, you sounded so scared. I was pretty worried Beatrice is such a jerk."

"She is, but I got to drive really really fast!" you say excitedly while your cheek is still being pinched. "But wow, Armada are pretty persistent bastards...I've had a pretty good da--"

"So are we going to be safe here? Let me know now." Jack demands.

"Well let me call Kwan first and tell him the situation. I mean I honestly didn't expect you to have a kid, and I definitely didn't expect you to go with Carmen so quietly." Beatrice answers first.

Jack nods and sits down, looking at the floor. Lyn goes to sit next to him. "Are we going to be alright? Its like normal when we have to move right?" she looks worried.

Your first instinct is to go comfort them, so you wiggle your way out of Emma's grasp and make your way over to their table. You take a minute to try to figure out what to say.

"I...um..I'm sure you guys won't be separated or anything like that. Kwan will just probably ask you some questions and you'll be able to go on about your lives." you try to console him.

"They get the information out of me and then what? Are you bloodsuckers just going to dump me out on the street? You saw the van, they know I'm here and they know I willingly went with you." Jack glares at you.

"Promise me, promise me we won't be left to get killed by them. Promise me they won't try to torture me or my daughter." Jack stands up and stares you down, you stare right back at him.

>Promise sincerely.
>Just reassure him, you're not sure what they'll do to him but you aren't going to tell him that.
>Be honest. You're not sure if you can promise all of that.
>Take responsibility for his daughter, that's all you can do.

>>
>>32681666
>>Take responsibility for his daughter, that's all you can do.
Do our damned best for him, too.
>>
>>32682117
This.
>>
Knowing your limitations, you can only do so much. You can't really guarantee his safety not since you're not really sure how Kwan operates outside of the few instances of what Beatrice mentions and him looking at you with disgust for some reason.

"I'll take responsibility for your daughter, but I can't really guarantee what will happen to you. I don't really have the pull to decide. But what I can do, is make sure she's safe." you say this as you look him in the eye, this is all you can do.

"I...thank you for being honest with me." he puts his hands on your shoulders. "You seem like a good kid, well maybe not a kid, for all I know you're probably decades older than me." he lets out a strained laugh.

Lyn stays quiet while looking at you too. Suddenly you feel like a hundred pounds of responsibility just decided to rest on your shoulders.

----
After about an hour of sitting around and chatting, Kwan and some of his crew walk in through the door. One of his men go up to Jack and handcuffs him while the other makes sure he doesn't try anything at the last minute.

Kwan looks at you, and then looks at Lyn. "Does she know anything?"

You stand up and look straight at him. "No, she's innocent. I'm the one that brought them."

Kwan sizes you up and then relents. "Good work." he turns to leave. Beatrice looks pretty relieved and so does Emma.

>Say something to him?
>>
>>32682237
say nothing
>>
>>32682237
Nah. Let's work on getting Lyn settled down safely. She probably has a ton of lesbian questions to make.
>>
You stick to nodding simply, waiting until he's gone until you throw your hands up, yelling. "I guess we're having a sleep over huh?!" you cap it off with a laugh.

Beatrice laughs along and soon after Emma and Lyn also laugh. After that you figure you should help Lyn get settled in before Beatrice touches your shoulder and whispers. "We should talk for a moment."

You sigh and tell Lyn to go ahead and make herself welcome in your part of your apartment, she quickly takes the hint and runs upstairs.

As soon as she's out of ear shot, Beatrice starts. "You know you're kind of an idiot right?"

You just smile and nod. "Yup. But not as dumb as you."

"Second question, did you hear about or see anything else while you were at his apartment?" Beatrice inquires.

You furrow your eyebrows. "Yeah, he talked about extracting mana from people...the way he sounded when he talked about it. It sounded lethal." you sit down and sigh. "He sounded like he really didn't want to do it, and that he didn't have a choice, so I wanted to help."

Beatrice just ruffles your hair and then says quietly. "What he's been doing...well if he admits to it he probably won't see his daughter ever again."

>What? Why?
>Is mana extracting really that lethal?
>Stay silent and contemplate.
>>
>>32682714
>>What? Why?
>>Is mana extracting really that lethal?
>>
>>32682714
>>What? Why?
Oh boy. It'd be amusing if we ended up having to take care of Lyn ourselves. And by amusing I mean tragic.
>>
"What? Why?" you ask, a little panicked.

"Extracting mana from people is an incredibly dangerous process. Magi just plain don't do it, as a worst case scenario you'd be killed. The best case scenario is that you would remake a broken shell of a person that can't even feed themselves. I know I complain about Magi all the time but hell, at least they had the sense to ban this practice."

Beatrice pauses, goes over to the bar and takes out a bottle of whiskey and a couple of glasses. She pours some in both of them and hands one to you. She nods, giving you the ok to drink, but you ignore it. "Continue."

She sighs "Well I figure since he knows how to extract mana, that he got excommunicated from the magi society for it. But since he's been doing it for Armada and who knows how many people, Kwan is going to hand him over to the church and the church is going to hand him over to the Mage Tower."

You stare at the drink and whisper an "Oh..." Beatrice pats your shoulder and urges you to take a drink.

And so you do.
