You are Heilyn Gallagher - party girl, baker, halfling, and murderer. Well, that last one is a new one you added about six seconds ago, the gun you used to do the deed still hot in your hand. You're beginning to understand that your dad got into some deep shit, all those years ago when he ran off. Some red colored bint with the fashion sense of a two copper prostitute burnt your house down with some military grade spellery, and sent you running to the house you inherited from him. Trying to find a bugout room dropped you into some deathtrap training course he prepared for you, intent on teaching you his paranoia and ruthlessness, how to take the shot.

Well, you've certainly learned how.

The corpse of the red woman - you never learned her name, before you shot the bullet with hers on it - lies pressed up against the shelves of preserved organs. You're much the same, huddled up in the corner furthest from her, arms wrapped around your knees cradling the fairy in the jar, rocking back and forth as she informs you once more how long it is until you wake up. Would be nice if you were actually asleep. Then this could all be one bad, alcohol fuelled dream that you'll wake from any minute now with a massive hangover and a face full of Sofia's lovely twins, some stranger's arms wrapped around the both of you.

"Wait... that doesn't make sense," the fairy in jar ponders, her voice high and sweet. "Could you take me back to the clocks, pretty lady? My mind plays tricks on me sometimes, but the numbers never lie. They keep everything nice and snug together, all squished into the frame of reference and never falling apart!"
>>
>>32656527

She does a happy little twirl withing the viscous substance, a great wide smile splitting her face as bobs her head from side to side to the ticking of the clock. It catches your eye for the first time, sitting on the desk, a fairy-sized wall of times and timers. A face for every major city within the Republic, a face for each City-State in old Henan, a face for Darkhan, and St. John's Rock, Al'Dhaerun and Al'Kahedri, all of them ticking the seconds by in perfect simultaneity.

"Pretty Lady...?" The fairy asks. "Are you okay?"

Orcs don't have those in setting. They reproduce by eating people/other orcs and incorporating their victim's flesh and blood into their system, and then lay eggs. There's a reason why the Caliphate was brought into being - to stamp out all orc nests and keep the beasts contained. They're religious militant stance comes from the number of Half Orcs they have in their population - nearly as many as the humans - to keep the rage inherent to their Orcine blood at bay.
>>
>>32656747
>Egg-laying orcs
But how could anyone fear them rather than snigger at the mental image?

>Pick yourself up. Not yet, you're not, but you will be.
Finally, thought you were dead for a while there.
>>
>>32656783
Because they're each half a ton of brutish muscle whose blood is, in fact, made out of smaller maws that quite literally eat their way through your weapons and armor if they aren't warded properly. They don't lay eggs like avians, they "lay" them into these dank, foul pits from which crawl their brutish spawn as fully formed adults, having eaten their way through the weakest of their number to join their horde triumphant.

Half orcs that embrace their orcine blood are nasty because while they're not quite as strong as the orcs, they're much more clever.

You pull yourself together. Well, as together as you can manage while your stomach is still falling from the part where you murdered the woman in cold blood. The idea that you did what you had to - that your words to her dying corpse were as true as the sun rising in the east - hangs above you, and you grab at it, clinging it tightly to your breast. Or perhaps that's the fairy's jar. Regardless, you breath in and out heavily and rhythmically in time with the beating of the clock, for a few more moments as it creeps inevitably towards the twenty first hour of the day. You drag yourself up with the chiming of the clock, forcing a smile onto your face as you hold the fairy infront of your head.

She bounces gaily with each ringing of the bell, smiling back at you.

"I will be," you tell her in a light, breathy voice. More to reassure yourself than to reassure her. "I will be, eventually. When the two of us get ourselves out of here, and into some sorely needed sunlight. Or, well, moonlight, if those clocks are anything to go by. Yeah, once the two of us get our cute little butts out of here, then everything will be alright. For a while, anyways."

"But what about Mister?" the fairy asks, tilting her head at you. "Mister told me to stay here and not go with any strangers. Except his babygirl, who's still in the big cave but also sleeping in the scary place and maybe right here before me. I don't... I don't really know. The clocks are tricking me, I think. But they never lied to me before, and Mister told me they'd always speak the truth and I don't know what they're trying to say about the you who might be her and it's all a mess of light that lies to me an-"
>>
>>32657422
Either way, I do hope they show up some more.
But for now, we gotta save the fairy (and I guess ourself).
>>
>>32657485
She starts shaking again, the same way she shook when that red bitch told her about your father's death. The same way she shook before when she begged you over and over not to hate your father. You don't want to give her back to the clocks - they might help her pull herself back together, but how can staring at the time all day be anything but a stopgap. You pull her close as her jar will allow.

"Shush now, little bee," you coo at her, like a mother calming a child. "The light's not lying right now, and neither are the clocks. They're just as confused as you are, because I beat papa's test earlier than he thought I could, and that's good, right?"

"But... but..." the fairy calms, looking at you with wide, confused eyes. "He wanted you to learn the lessons. And if you beat the test without taking it, then what could you have learned?

"I learned a lot, little bee," You drawl playfully. The little fairy's concern is so adorable, you wish it was safe to take her from her jar and smother her up against your cheek. "A religious revelation, almost, a sign, a new meaning from the old ways and old texts. You recall the words of Hector's book, when he sent his son Diokles to unite the tribes of man and elf, dwarf and halfling, and the gnomes as well, all against the Orcine? Na einai kalitero anthropo apo ton patera tou. The old tongue of the Gressians, the old words. Be a better man than your father, he commanded his son. Right my wrongs."

"But... your father..." The little fairy shakes, and how much you wish you could pat her head reassuringly. "Mister was a good person, who helped people!"

"He may have been, I don' know either way," you tell her, leaving the possibility open. Your words slur, not quite drunkenly, but... inevitably. As if it were part of the face of the killer you had become. "I never knew him enough to know. But either way, he made mistakes, just like Hector. 'Tis said the Twelve in the Dark made the Orcs, and 'tis said that t'was in Hector's power to stop them. But did he? No, he didn', he let them coz he fel' it t'wasn' his place ta innerfere. Nae ev'n the gods are perfect, little bee, an' father was just a wee man."

"He meant well..." She looks down, almost ashamed, her hands behind her back and her feet shuffling as much as they can. She's quivering, more controllably than her last episode, but the fluid still stirs and shakes. "You should know he meant well. Just... don't hate him, that's the last thing he-"
>>
>>32658435
"I don't." You lie. Well, you think you lie. It's more complicated than that. "But that don' stop me from being furious with him, little bee. He shoulda known better, shoulda known tha' the bes' of intentions don' excuse the worst of actions. An' that's why I gotta be better than he was, see? Because ifn I don', then who else'll be there to be sun that burns away the rotting things? Nae his organization, nae if they're all like miss red and dead over here. Ya spen' so much time fightin' the rot, then ya don' know if ya've become rotten yerself, savvy?"

You trot over to the dead woman, the pit no longer digging deeper into your stomach. So you shot her in the back. Tricked her into a corner where she trusted you and you killed her. That's a part of this bloody game, isn't it? You'll be a better man than your father, alright. You'll burn all the rot to the ground, if you need to, so no one else will have to put up with all the pain, all the shit that you've had to go through these last few days.

You close the woman's eyes.

You'll burn it to the ground, and pay its agents the respect that they'd never give the corpses of their enemies. A cantrip dances off your finger, a spark of flame more for lighting candle and lantern than burning a corpse. You can't give her a proper funeral pyre, but you can at least say a few words, go through the rites that you remember.

"That was the pretty lady, wasn't it?" The little fairy mumbles dejectedly. "I... I never liked her much. But..."

>Don't mourn her too greatly, little bee.
>She cared not a whit for you and I, little bee.
>She's dead, and that can't be taken back. Let's be out of here.

Going a bit further, Diokles being a child of Hector is true only for a certain sense of the word - the same way that there have been multiple messiahs throughout the Old Testament while Jesus is proclaimed as "the Messiah" in the New. Diokles was simply the chosen of Hector, his champion on earth at that time.

Historically, Diokles was "merely" one part Alexander the Great, one part Charles Martel, and two parts Robert Baratheon. He united all the humanoids on the subcontinent to drive the Orcs out into the deserts, the ruled an empire for 62 years. At the age of 90, after wrecking the shit out of every warrior who showed up for his birthday Tourney, he keeled over from a heart attack before knocking out the last warrior in the melee.

Said warrior was hung the next day for use of black magic. Diokle's Empire fell apart over the next three years, bring about fifty years of civil war before the Aussons of the North came down from their steppes like a mongol horde and forced a peace upon the realm.

This lasted for a good 250 years or so, with the nobles/chiefs meeting up twice a year in a sort of proto-senate. Then the orcs came again, and Ruari Culaigne (representative of Cebaile and much feared pirate queen) was granted emergency powers and named Empress.
>>
>>32658748
Sounds like Culaigne knows what's up. Clearly we'll need to out-pirate her eventually.
>>
>>32658748
Haha. Two big names for us to live up to.
>>
>>32658788
>Not seduce her
Step it up, anon.

Anyway, more seriously, Ruari and Culaigne seem to be popular names, since we appear to know at least one of each entirely unrelated to said pirate queen turned empress so far, which could get confusing. Either that or we happen to know all her immediate family.

>>
>>32658998
So instead of buying the bakery from our old boss, we buy his kingdom?

Sounds good.
>>
>>32658998
She only had one child, a son. Said child, though, was much less discreet than her, and was part of the reason Cebaile is what it is today (a saucy hive of pirates and villains). After her dynasty fell some... 1600, I think, years ago, all the bastards and their descendents came out of the woodwork and claimed the surname. So, roughly half the halfling population can claim to be one of her descendents. And since she's a bit of a folk hero, everyone and their mother are named after her or one of her children.
>>

>>She cared not a whit for you and I, little bee.
>>
>>32659193
Myes, anon?

How about we revive both dad and the pirate queen, that way they could try to impart their lessons to another little bastard offspring, and we can get our life back to normal, or as normal as it will be from this point onward.
>>
>>32658748
Can we get a name for the fairy and not some stupid nickname?
>>
>>32659299
You know, I wouldn't put it beyond the legendary pirate queen to find some kind of source of immortality and still be around, just not in common knowledge. Plan is still on indeed! Hahaha
>>
"Don't mourn her too greatly, little bee," you mutter to the jarred fairy. It is ill fortune to speak poorly of the dead, you know, but the woman's deeds should not be white washed. "Whether she meant it or not, she was part of the rot that needs cleansing. An' we've said the words now, an' sent her spirit off into the wind, so let us be done with this and move on. The lessons I've learned will suffice, right? So go ahead and pretend I got here the way m'dad intended it."

The little fairy glances between you and the ashes of the red woman nervously, the shakes that took her dying down. She breathes deeply of the viscous liquid that she is held within, clenching her eyes shut. From the look of it, she's trying to remember what to say, her mouth flapping over and over in the same pattern. Just barely below a whisper you can hear her speak.

"Zero days zero hours zero minutes zero seconds," she chants to herself, her fists balled and tight against her hips. "Zero days zero hours zero minutes zero seconds. Zero days zero hours zero minutes zero SECONDS."

She screams the last word at the top of her lungs, a sharp and high pitched sound that stings your ears and sends a ripple through the fluid. You wince, closing your eyes for the briefest moment. When you look back, the fairy is floating perfectly still and calm, the viscous fluid within which she is held glowing not the palish green it was a moment ago, but a sharp, wintry blue. The little bee looks different too - still not a stitch on her, but much less haunted. More serene.

"Congratulations Madame Gallagher," she says, a smile spreading across her face. "You have completed the trials and proven your mettle, your readiness to fight the enemies at our door. Before he... left, your father asked me to accompany you, guide you, assist you as I assisted him."
>>
>>32659315
I am surprisingly Ok with that. Then we can hang on as a tag along in the party instead of the MC.
>>
>>32659347

The pause and the look on her face as she speaks of your father's "leaving" tells you that he clearly did not inform her "before" he left. Or if he did, he did something to bury the memory away. The cynic in you wants to believe that the poor little fairy is just a glorified messaging system to him. The optimist in you gets the feeling that he hid it away that so when it clicked to her that he was dead, she'd have you to cling to and support her. Probably a bit of both, knowing your old man.

"So what's your name, little bee," you ask her.

"I lost it a long time ago..." she quivers, briefly, before straightening herself out. "Mist- your father always called me 'little one', or 'little sapphire'. He believed that would be best, because he wanted to help me find it again, and didn't want to confuse me when he did." She wrings her hands like a blushing schoolgirl. "You can continue calling me little bee, if you wish. It's... cute."

>>
>>32660147
They were the result of a competition between two priest-kings of prehistory, each trying to make themselves the more beautiful servants. The Dwarves came about from a few of them collaborating on more efficient laborers to build their monuments.

Halflings came about because one particularly gifted mage of prehistory only grew to five feet tall, much shorter than the rest of his tribe. They mocked him, and for this he cursed them, to be far shorter even than he; the old tales of the Little Giant still abound in the old halfling legends.

The gnomes are what happens when Halflings and Dwarves breed, but they're largely considered to be their own race, descended primarily from a halfling tribe and Dwarven tribe that merged in the years before Diokles, hiding away from the Orcs.

You hold up the blue glowing jar to your face and give the little fairy the widest smile you can manage. Troubles, worries, what did they matter right now? The red woman's death was a red mark in your ledger, and you won't be forgetting about it anytime soon, but you think you've learned what needs to be done. Be vicious and cold when you need to be, caring and motherly when it'll help you, and grab what happiness you can and cling it tightly to your breast. And if you wind up running some gods damned ninja-pirate-assassin conspiracy out of your new bakery - well, you've got a few ideas for some meat pies to serve up to your enemies.

"Alright, little bee!" you chirp at the fairy. "Let's get out of here and get you some sunlight - first things first, we've got to get you some new clothes. Now, we can go to doll shop if you want, but those probably won't fit you all that well, yeah? No, I've got just the place - I happen to be good friends with a pair of seamstresses who'd just love to meet you!"

"What's a seamstress?" the little fairy asks, tilting her head. "My mind doesn't remember, but my tongue knows the word. Do they work with the numbers - the numbers never lie."

"That they do. The most important numbers anyone ought to know, in fact." Your smile becomes just the slightest bit naughty, as one of your hands traces half an hourglass from your bust to your butt. "They make clothes. Those two have a knack for knitting and knowing how to shape a dress - even if neither of them can see much in the way of color. That's what Caroline's there for, to help them pick out the fabrics - before she came around, the two of them were selling some bizarre patterns. Purples and oranges, mostly, and red going where it just didn't belong."

You pat her on the top of the jar. She pouts - you're not sure if it's because she's sad you can't actually touch her, or annoyed at being treated like a kid. Probably a bit of both.
>>
>>32660639
"The clothes'll get wet and ruined, though," she says matter of factly. "Mister tried a while back to bring me some, but the compound dissolves them, and I gotta stay in here till Jubilee. That's forty six days, two hours, forty two minutes and thirty one seconds from now. But then I'll be healed! Or, well, mostly healed; mister said that's when my mind'll stop playin' tricks on me, and the numbers won't be the only things not lyin'."

It's your turn to pout. You were looking forward to taking her with you on your quest to restore your old wardrobe.

"Well, we'll make it a celebration, then," you tell her, "For the 2000th year of the Empire and your newfound freedom, I suppose. Any chance you can eat something while you're in there?"

"I... I think so," she says, shaking a little bit. "Mister always brought sweets around give me when he came back from his work. But my mind may be lying and... No. Yes. I think." She looks at you with wide, sad eyes. "I don't need to eat while I'm in the jar, but I... I would like to try, if you're willing to."

"Alrighty then!" you declare. "Well, I've got to get some things settled with Old Man Culaigne, but once that's done, I'll make you a cheesecake. And then a raspberry tort. And then there's this neat little recipe involving frozen cream, but that might make a mess in that jar of yours..."

You catch yourself, and ask the fairy to lead you out of here. Once you're on the right path, though, that doesn't stop you from listing all sorts of baked delicacies you're going to make for your little bee. Eventually, after being ignored by all manner of constructs gathered around a bed with rather sinister looking medical equipment, and going by what looked to be a clockwork version of that dashing rogue from your favorite novel, you find a ladder to the surface.

The Dark Elves (Talani) are "Drow" type elves, though Drow is considered a racial slur. The High Elves (Haomani) are the pale, fair elves. The Horse Elves (Darkhani) are the brown elves, who harass the Caliphate's border's on the north. The Henani have holed themselves up from the other Henanites up north, behind Shan'gei's wall, and are asian elves.

Now you remember what part of town you're in - Scavver's Row. A seedy little shithole where the pirates that run Cebaile throw out all pretense of being civilized folk. The governor's lawmen don't even try to patrol these streets and whores can't afford a license from the Comfort Guild. That little establishment - Homer's Homemade - was just about the nicest place the district had to offer. A little hole in the wall Gressian joint, the one spot in the row that wasn't a rundown shanty or a three copper whorehouse.

Made some damn fine Dioklesian Chicken. But not the type that's worth getting mugged over.

Speaking of muggers, you can smell the five ladies and gents that have been following you for the past three streets, as you walk calmly towards Cottontown, where Sofia and Isabella make their home. A look and a word silences your little bee's complaints as you slip her jar into your purse, and you do a damned fine job not freaking out when the scent of dried alcohol and other unsavory fluids gets stronger.

And of course, some busty blonde bitch swaggers out from the side of the street, a pipe in her hand and vicious little smile on her face. A bit past her prime, a bit frazzled in the head, she positively stinks of alcohol and pipeweed. And on her belt, a prize probably worth more than whatever establishment she runs - dagger of an alloy of adamantine and steel. Simple but well forged, she probably pocketed off some adventurer or mercenary looking for a cheap roll in the hay back in her better days.

Or she's with whichever organized crime syndicate protects this part of town these days. Either or.
>>
>>32661750
Oh boy!
>>

"Evening little missy," she says, far too sweetly for that predatorial gleam in her eye. A look that means she's either incredibly stupid, given how heavily armed you are, or she's got a caster on payroll ready to wet your ammon the moment you draw a gun. "You look tired! Why don't you step inside; we've got a warm bed, a fire, and a hot meal if you need it. And if you can't pay, don't worry dear; honest work for honest wages, and I can tell ya that it's not that hard. Can even be fun~!"

She winks at you.

(Rolled Intimidation 7, 5, 2, 6, 10)
(Difficulty: 3[6])
(2 Successes! 1 Dramatic Success)

"Forgive me, madame - may I call you madame?" You start, sending the woman a glare. You draw yourself up to your full height, all three feet and seven inches, and stare her straight in the eyes. "See, I have been having a really bad day - which you could probably tell by the whole 'blood down my shirt thing,' and right now, I quite frankly don't have the patience for coy little entrapment schemes. I'm not gonna have anyone dictate who it is I'll be riding from here on out, savvy?"

For emphasis, you pull out one of your loaded pistols, and point it down the alleyway. Without a second thought, you fire it, the sound of gunpowder cracking out shortly followed by the thud of a corpse on cobble and gravel. The woman's eyes open wide, in fear and confusion, stammering out something unintelligible as she draws her knife and takes a defensive stance.

"I might slut my way through half the men in Cebaile," you say, holstering that pistol and drawing another one. "But I do it for fun, not money. And I'll be a cold corpse in the ground before I shag on someone's orders. So call your thugs off, madame, and I'll pass on through without any trouble, and you get to live."

"Th-th-th-what," the woman stammers out, all sauce and predation gone from her voice. "That's not... I wasn't... I mean, I own a brothel, but that's not the work I meant. E-e-e-everyone knows Halflings have the best drinking songs, I just thought -"

You cock the hammer on your pistol.

"You expect me to believe that," you say, even as the stench of alcohol and other unsavory things gets closer. You can't see them, but you can feel them, inching up behind you with spade and sword and whatever else they could scrounge. "You expect me to believe you were just offering charity to a stranger, and had nothing to do with the blokes and bitches, what just backed up at gunfire?"

"Y-yes?" the woman asks.

"Sorry little tart," a deep voice comes from behind you. "But ya guessed wrong. Go ahead, shoot 'er; that'll be one less shot for the Back Alley Boys."

"Aye, an' Girls," the thug corrects himself. "Ya got what, three shots left? Oh sure, yeah killed ol' Mikey there, but no one liked him. And there's six of us left, and you're not big enough to stick us all with that little toothpick on yer hip. So why don'tcha come with us, and we'll make it nice an' easy on ya?"

(Two Successes!)
(Failure...)

You turn around, drawing your sword and with a quick, efficient lung aim it directly at the voice, point first. Unfortunately, between the dark of the street and the man moving already to dodge out of the way, you miss your mark, the blade getting caught in the man's own ringmail. And, well, when you account for the size difference between a six foot nine half orc and a three foot six halfling, well, the man has more leverage. With a hoist, he grabs the flat of your blade and rips it from your hand.

And there's no where to run. A scavvy looking human woman, all scars and muscle, is in the slow process of accosting the lady you thought was their boss. Her knife yanked from her hand and tossed to a ratty looking dwarven dame, she seems caught between anger and resignation. Making matters worse, either a gnome or a halfling snuck up behind you while you tried to stab the big guy, and locked you into a vice grip, grabbing at places mercifully covered by your armor.

"Treat 'er nice like, Emi," the big guy says to the woman, who rolls her eyes. "Smart one she is. Not like this little treat, no. Knows when to fold, when someone else's got the better hand, aye."

Rather fortunately, the thugs seem to have forgotten your purse, more intent on other things than whatever money you've got on you. The halfling, it looks like - a scarred man who makes no sound and has only one of his eyes - rather quickly strips you of your weapons, tossing them to the dwarf. Of course, you don't just sit there and take it - you kick him in the shin and then break his nose with your head, and make to run off.

Unfortunately, you run straight into the Half Orc's leg as he's monologuing.
>>
>>32663982
She's not Yukarin, she's not-Yukari!
>>
>>32664071
"See, this little treat doesn't know what's good for 'er," He says, lifting your by the scurff of the neck. "Right bothersome she's being, not amicable in the least to any of our attentions. Really, I'm hurt." An evil gleam lights in his eye. "But maybe that's the wrong type of attention that she wants. Dropping her cards, running all over the place - maybe she wants to see something a bit more creative than that."

He leans into your face.

"Tell me girly, you know how we orc bloods reproduce?" He spits, opening his mouth wide, revealing the sign of his orcish heritage - unending rows of gnashing teeth, instead of a proper throat.. "It's not like you humans - not tha' real way. See, what we do is we-"

"Uh... boss..." The dwarf says. "I think I know what she was scrambling around for."

"And what's that, Brunni?" The half orc turns from you to her.

"Why, an ace in the hole, hun."

That's not the dwarf's voice. That's the voice from earlier, the one you swore you recognized from somewhere, in that reassuring bayou drawl. A second after it speaks, you hear the sickening sound of a snapping spinal column, accompanied by a thud. Quickly, too quickly, you see a slight glitter in the moonlight as five somethings fly from her at the remainder of the thugs. The Half Orc starts to fall, but you don't land in the dirt.

You hardly feel yourself being caught, or the roll as whoever catches you tumbles out of the way of the dead man's corpse. The world spins like a game of roulette, except instead of numbers spinning round and round, it's stars and the Moon. Shaking yourself out of it, your eyes look to whoever it is who saved you, and land upon a familiar face.

This baker over there? He destroyed a few cities. This bartender? The king of several dimensions. This shop keeper? A 1000 years old lich.

And you wonder why thieves do not come into this part of town?
>>
>>32665093
Sounds like a good way to keep our bakery safe. Form a neighborhood of shopkeepers who lead double lives as incredibly dangerous adventurers and/or villains.

"A-A-Alright?" you stammer out out, the weight of today finally catching up with you. You don't struggle to escape from Caroline's arms for a few reasons, the first of which being the fact that they are rather comfortable and you are rather tired. The second being that you're somewhat terrified of the woman who casually murdered six... people who really didn't deserve to live. The third being the part where you're too busy reconciling your that terror with the fact that you are a card carrying member of the kills people club now. "You don't... no. NO. Today is the exact opposite of alright, Caroline, and you aren't exactly making it better."

The bystander - you never got her name - has left, scrambled off back to whatever establishment she came from. The alleyway is deserted. With both hands cradling you gently, Caroline flips your stuff back into your purse with her feet, and then hands it to you.

"Well shucks, sugar," she says, perhaps a bit upset. "I imagine it musta been a hard day for ya, what with the fire and havin' to move to your pa's place. I know you never really liked him, but... well, from what I understand, there's a training room in his place. Some clanks and whatnot ta teach ya how to use that there sword and aim them guns. You've got the sneakin' bit down, tha's fer sure, if ya managed to get all the way out here without me knowing. Hell, I only came out here cause bitchy macbitchead told me... ah, what's the word, 'get the hell outta my sight.'"

She pats you on the head. You scowl - you might be small, but you haven't been a child in the last ten years, dammit.

"'Bitchy macBitchead?'" You ask. "Redheaded woman? Dress that leaves nothing to the imagination?"

"That's right, she was at the reading of your father's will, wasn't she?" Caroline muses. "Well, gods rest her soul, but she musta got hit by one of your pa's disintegration traps or sommat. Got a scry back from HQ saying they can't raise her, her soul's up and passed on, just like your pa's. Good riddance, if you ask me - your pa, well, he had some screws loose but his heart was in the right place at least. Most of the time, anyways. Miranda though, well forgive me fer speakin' ill of the dead, but she was a right insufferable cunt."

>I... may have been the one to do that.

I'm not sorry at least
I want to do my best to maintain Heilyn's hatred for her father

I haven't detailed Henan nearly as much as I should have, so I don't really know. Either west or South of the five Henanite city-states - the five stars around the eastern lake. The map's still very much a work in progress.

>>32665786
Drew the outline of the continent by hand. Then traced it with a pencil tool in GIMP. Found a parchmenty thing for the background, filled the parts between the outlines with some semi-transparent dark blue, and then did some feathering on it's border. Found a mountain stamp off the internet for the mountains, and drew in the rivers on the same layer as the ocean/lakes.

Nice to meet you, I'm Heilyn Gallagher. Scourge of the seas, pirate queen, conqueror of nations, and bakery owner.
The pirate thing's really a hobby, though.
>>
So. They COULD have raised her normally, but not this time. I wonder, is that because we sort of burnt the corpse or because she simply wanted to move on? Our fire didn't seem that effective. Oh, and also makes me wonder what got to the old man, apparently something that also knows to take means to prevent him being raised.

You might as well know now. I killed her. She burned my house down and tried to torture me in my father so called 'training' dungeon. I hope she and my father rots in hell.
>>
>>32665735
Nice map! Though those mountains are conspicuously...grouped.
>>
>>32665200
I shot her. I shot her in the back like an ugly dog that had the mange. I shot her because she decided that the best way to get me to join Dad's hidden conspiracy was to BURN MY FUCKING HOUSE DOWN.

I think that shooting her would have been the best thing to come from that whole level of bullshit.

Now get me to an oven, I'm making a fairy a godsdamn cake before I deal with Dad's shit.

>>
>>32676137
That's alright.
>>
"On a scale of one to me dying..." you start, drawing out the words with a nervous giggle. "How angry would you be if I were the one who did her in?"

This is an especially pertinent question because the two of you are currently sailing over the rooftops at gods only know what speed. You'd guess thirty, maybe even forty klicks an hour - fast enough to reach the other side of Cebaile in three minutes flat. You can just barely make out the lights as they blur by, and you only catch maybe one shopsign in ten, though the polished bright dome of Ol' Hendrickson Culaigne is unmistakeable even in this light. She's running to the docks, it would seem.

More to the point, she wouldn't even need to stab you to kill you right now. She could just let you slip, and at these speeds you'll splatter on a wall before becoming another nameless corpse in an alleyway.

"Well officially, I'd have to bring you before the Grand Master of the Emerald Isles," Caroline starts, her accent all but evaporated by the exertion of keeping up this ludicrous pace. "Funny thing, though; your old man was the old Grand Master and Bitchy macBitchead was serving as interim until we voted a new one in. So you'd get to the Thunderbolt and stay there for maybe a week before someone in the thick of things realizes you're 'Princess'. Then everyone will start apologizing profusely before shipping you off where ever you want to go with an honor guard."

"What." Your voice falls flat. "Sorry, could you say that again?"

"Honey, almost everyone in this branch of the Order worked bodyguard detail for you once or twice when you were a little one." You can see her teeth flashing white in the darkness, a big grin splitting her face. "Hell, almost all your babysitters were initiates, from what the old-timers used to stay. And Morgana? Well, she was an asset, I guess. But she really put the ass in asset if she was, you know?"
>>
>>32677409
"I do," you deadpan at the Dark Elf. It's still a bit much to take in, and you are most definitely not amused. If she's not lying out of her ass to get a confession out of you, every single person you've ever looked up to, besides your mother and maybe Old Man Culaigne, was one of your father's cronies. "She sort of burnt my house down."

She comes to a halt outside a small little boathouse along the riverside. Well built - not a shanty little thing nailed togeth without a whit nor care for aesthetic, but a gods damned work of architecture. You can smell the fresh sea air; you're not far from the sea. Below it, is something you can't quite recognize. Vaguely alcoholic, but definitely something else.

"See, that's why no one will really care," the dark elf says, letting you down. "Morgana and your father never got along with one another, even if they respected each other's abilities. That, and the way your father drew people to him scared the people back at headquarters. Worried them, that we were a bit too loyal to him than his cause."

She opens the doors to the boathouse wide open. It's pitch black.

"I say fuck 'em," she declares. "If it was your hand that did in Morgana the Red, I think we'll each cover your drinks for a week, eh, ladies and gents?"

"Aye!" a chorus answers.

>Um... is this a test?

Wow, talk about a way to get her back down to earth and realizing the kind of shit she's up against. These guys and gals basically represents everything wrong with dad.
>>
>>32677430
>[Write In]
Caroline, listen up and listen well. Lead me to the fucking kitchen in this fucking place so I can bake a fucking cake for a fairy and try to forget about how my father tried to drug me and make me think I was raped by goblins, or I will go fucking apeshit.
>>
>>32677902
I sure wouldn't want to stay. I mean, their reasons for literally celebrating her death was 'she was kind of a tool' (probably true, but holy shit people) and 'she didn't get along with/trust your dad' (hey, guess who else doesn't? Should we look out for a stab in the back too?). Also literally calling a person an 'asset' and only recognizing their worth in that way, rather than as an individual. How are these people not exactly what we don't want to become?
>>
>>32677430
>Yea thanks but no, this first is not a cause for celebration as far as I'm concerned.
No regrets, we were in the right, probably, but the death of a human being is not a cause for celebration.

>>32677613

I wish the QM would put his twitter in the /qtg/ directory. Would makes thing a lot more convenient.
>>
>>32677969
I really don't like that Dad's encrypted message said that "the enemy" was going to burn down our houses looking for us, yet it was one of his order's members who did it. The entire thing is sick.
>>
>>32677969
Honestly, I just want to get to the scene where there's a fairy sleeping on a half eaten slice of cake.

>>32677430
I vote for whatever gets us to cake baking fastest.
>>
>>32678028
Did we get it confirmed that dead chick (or associates) did it, or was it just Heilyn's assumption? Like she assumed not-Yukari was in on the robbery and therefore read some serious malicious intent from her actions when in fact she was 100% innocent. What I'm saying is, our protagonist is garbage dogshit at reading people properly.
>>
>>32678028
Plot twist: Dad got fed up with the organization and they are the enemy he was referring too.
>>
>>32678063
I thought that first, but any scrutiny of the story makes that dumb - why on earth would dead bitch be trusted with overseeing the training then? And Caroline and crew mostly seem to tolerate them fine, even if the relationship isn't super-good.
>>
>>32677430
Yeah nah, we still need to get clothes and bake a cake for Little Bee.
>>
>>32678110
Think too - she was going to try to get us away from the members loyal to Dad the instant we outfoxed the old bastard's schemes, and immediately started grabbing his sample collection once she could get in there.

Caroline clearly had no idea of what was going on, but we don't know what Dad's plan for us after we finished the course was.
>>
>>32678678
Yeah, but why would she even know of the place if she was one of the enemies? And not 'secretly found out' either, between Caroline expressing no surprise at her being there and the fairy knowing her face. Dad's faction were clearly aware that she knew, and still entirely unfazed. Even if she was an enemy, these bozos don't seem to know that, so their callous celebration is still terrible.
>>
>>32678881
Unless she was a complete bitch to everyone who was only the interim because she was the senior at the time, and likely to lose the spot the moment the vote happened. Caroline clearly knew nothing about the training zone itself, all she was told was that Heilyn would be taught to fight. And she was kicked out of the house so Morgana could oversee what was happening without the rest of the order knowing, likely to keep up the "they're coming for you any second now" scare.
>>
>>Caroline, this is not what I need right now.
>>
>>32678015
He's mentioned it in qtg I'm pretty sure. I'm guessing the guy hasn't seen it yet.
