Your 9mm pistol rattles in its holster as you walk across the bland, brown desert; cacti and other green plants sprinkling the land, but you were heading to the next town, Gilmon, which as you heard from stories where you were sheltered that it used to be a ghost town already before this post-apocalyptic wonderland took over. It was winter already, but the cold was always something you loved, instead of the beating heat, but it remained to gusting wind drifting over the desert along with other sand. Your brown duster and newish T-shirt, newish in the sense that it is something you got and looks like new condition, and the jeans kept some of the wind off of you. The walk was a long way, but you had a Pip-Boy that a man gave you back in an old bar, and you remember that it was a great bar, run-down as it was. The green screen lit up as you navigated your way to your radio and twisted the knob and listened to the music come to a beat around you.

'How lucky could one guy be?
I kissed her, and she kissed me.
Like the fella' once said, ain't that a kick in the head?'

The music is soothing, reminding you of the good times with some random guys at the bar, and the few girls that you plowed their beanfields (If you catch my drift) back in New Vegas. The Shishkebab across your back felt as heavy as ever after the few miles you've walked to get here, and it seems to be getting to dusk, and it seems like a good place to make camp since there is nothing to obscure vision; you could probably hear something approaching you.

You warm yourself by the camp fire, turning off the radio as to not attract attention; the crescent moon illuminating the brown ground to make it seem as if to glow. The fire was keeping you warm, until you went to sleep; the sleep came onto you, a blanket of black that came with the night, you started dreaming of your mother back in your state of Minnesota, prancing around the old wooden shelter that you and your mom lived in before having to move, but it seemed like this one was memorable; it was warm inside, the perfect mid-way of hot and cold, but the wooden cabin's walls burst in flames, the wooden tables and chairs stood in a pause as this large shell crashed from the sky, bursting into flames as you looked to your mother for help... Only to see her face, the once beautiful face of Mrs. Smith, started melting; her nose becoming goo as it seeped down her face, you heard muscles ripping from her tendons as you started to put your face in hands, but you only see your flesh going through your fingers. You feel the warmer tears pool in your eyes, before you see them evaporate. "Ma, please help me." You whimper as the wooden ceiling crashes onto you.

You wake up with a sheen of sweat across your body, but then you notice a woman across from you.

"Mother?" You say, sitting upright immediately letting your eyes adjusting to the light of dawn. You see a girl, maybe in her mid-twenties sitting across from you in nothing but rags sewn together to make a dress.

"Are you okay?!" She squeaks out as you start to back up, remembering the horrifying glop of your mom's face, but this woman was beautiful, high cheekbones, black hair, brown eyes, and no shoes...

More of a mirage than my mother, you think. "Yeah, I'm fine, just nightsweats." You say as you give a grin to her where she sits at the end of the mat.

She gives you a look that just says, "Do you think I am a dumbass?", but instead she looks at you and says, "Oh yeah, screaming in your sleep is something that happens when you're fine." She says as she stands up, her legs and thighs were even more alluring than her face as you took it, her legs looked smooth as silk, and her thighs were a tad thick, but that was the way you liked them.

"So what brings you up to my camp?" You ask, raising your eyebrow, reaching into your bag and grabbing a can of peanuts. You can never have too many of the suckers.

"I heard screaming, what else would I do? You could've been dying!" She says with a concerned look. Yeah, if I died you would've taken my equipment too, or worse put me down before I got better, but she hasn't been suspicious so far, so what can you expect thus far.

"I see, and may I ask how you have survived so long in just those rags?" You look her up and down again, "You should probably buy some, or you'll barely get by with that kind of protection."

"I don't have any money, so I wouldn't be able to." Well that seems a bit more suspicious.

"You could've stood at a cor-" You say as you get slapped hard against the cheek, feeling the sting after she hit you, soft hands but a rough hit.

"That answers that I guess." You say, moving your jaw around to get the sting out, rubbing the cheek.

"I am not some whore ya know!" She says furiously, that much was obvious the moment she slapped you. Her yelling might attract more visitors though.

"Calm down, it was only a joke, Jesus Christ." You say, plopping another peanut, "Have some food with me." You offer some of your peanuts to her and reach into your pack to grab a bottled water, all the while keeping an eye on her.

"Well, now that we're on good terms with one another. May I know your name, madam?" You say as she grabs a few peanuts from the can, and you uncap the bottle and drink; the drops making your throat less dry than before, but it seems you drank it to about a half of the bottle.

"Ariel Emerald, yours?" She casually says, tossing the peanuts back as you close the can up, returning it to the pack from whence it came.

"Vance Smith, I like to think I am named after Vance from the Vikki and Vance crime gang, but it seems like that's not so true." Another question is lingering in your head.

"What are you doing out here? A girl like you shouldn't be out here in rags." You say, rolling up your bed mat, still keeping her in sight.

"Heading for Gilmon, I think it is not that far from here, maybe a mile or two more." She looks around. If only I would've continued, I would've found an inn, you think despairingly.

"What about you?" she asks, her brown doe eyes looking at you inquisitively.

"Same reason but to look for work." You put your bed mat away into the pack, putting the holster for your 9mm on you.

"What kind of work?" Her eyes looking deep at you.

"Mainly I am a Bounty Hunter, but if some other jobs with good pay come by, who am I to second guess?" You strap the shishkebab to your back in it's sheathe.

"Even bad jobs, like that one wanderer who took out the city with the nuke in its middle?" You also heard that story, but it's definitely something that you would not do. You would more likely shoot the bastard and his employer then see a whole town die to flames.

"I may not be a beacon of shining morality and ethics but I have standards. I would never want to see anyone innocent burn for nothing." You say, grasping the strap a little tighter.

"Mind if I head with you to Gilmon, since it seems we're both heading that way?" Her rags blowing in the wind; the wind seems to be picking up again.

...Ah frak, why? I don't need to protect someone more than myself, but you cannot refuse to turn down this... Lovely and charming lady. "Why not? We're both on the road there, so it seems better to travel in pairs." You give her a friendly smile.

"Great! Let's head on then!" She latches onto your arm, giving more surprise than seeing a person after waking up.

"You okay?" She asks, looking up at you.

"Yeah, just not used to that." She's probably going to murder me in my sleep, you think with distress but let her hang on.

While I agree that cazadores are near-impossible to kill without vats--at least in close to mid-range--they do drop fairly quickly once you cripple one of their wings. the 10mm SMG works good for this; especially Sleepytyme. For Deathclaws, a well-placed shot to the legs will do the same and give you plenty of time to deal with them. Deathclaws have the added bonus of liking to wander around outside of each others' aggro radii.

Also, fuck Ghost People

A wasteland picture soon takes over from what was a desert, bare trees with their branches scratching against one another every time a wind blows by.

"So, do you have any skills with cooking or weapons, and more important. Are you armed?" You shift your bag around as you walk through the far-stretched land of trees.

"I have a lucky pistol that my brother gave me when I went out on my own." She lets go of your arm and pulls out a laser pistol, "It's easy to conceal and keeps the men at bay, if they get too close." Jesus, she could shoot my member off and then steal my loot, just great...

"Do you have any training is the question." You tell her, though she looks confident with it. You spy a mole rat about 50 meters away, "Let's see you hit that, hot shot." You say as you point to the mole rat.

"Okay." She steadies the pistol and closes her left eye and looks down the sights; it seems like she has it so far but does she?

She lets loose a laser round; the round going at fast speeds and crackling at the trigger's pull. As fast as the laser had shown, it went away in the blink of an eye with the mole rat gone into ash.

"Well..." You stare wide eyed at her; her cocksure smile even more confident, "Good shot, hot shot." You smile at her, "Glad to have a skilled marksman like myself." As she puts her pistol away, you put your arm around hers this time.

"Well, now that the marksmanship test is over, can you cook is a great question. Peanuts and burnt geckos can only last so long." You give her a glance.

"Used to cook for my brother and myself, radroach soup was the main course almost every evening, but thankfully he would always find some RadAway." Your belly turns upside-down at the thought of radroach soup, and the peanuts feel like they were irradiated themselves.

"Can we not have radroach for the main course as long as I am killing?" You grimace at the thought of radroach stew.

"Yeah, I can try my hand at anything!" She said, perkily.

"Better than no skills at all I gue-" You get cut off as Ariel points at a town, just due north.

"Seems like we've found what we were looking for!" Her smile radiating like the sun. The town was a bit run down, but it still looked good enough to live at; you take out your binoculars to make sure this is just not another raider hideout. You see citizens going about their days, men bargaining with shop owners, some others going to church, and even a few kids pop around every now and again. Most of the buildings in the town were the same color, each a bit brown with blue stripes running through the middle and white fill on the top.

"It seems like a beautiful place, if I must say so, and beautiful places usually hide some treachery." You grin.

You head into town, and it seems a bit bigger than from the hill. There seems to be a market square with wooden tables carrying anything from guns to clothing to nice hats and food.

"What to do first..." You look at Ariel and notice the rags,"We might want to get that changed quickly." You walk toward the counter of a clothing seller with racks of clothes that were probably scavenged.

"Find yourself something nice, just make sure it is not too expensive; I'm not a bottomless pit." You say, lifting your sack of bottle caps, not much from the last hunt, giving you a burn and only 500 caps, "I am going to get supplies for the road." You hand her about 50 caps. "That should be enough for some clothes."

You walk to the hat section, looking at various hats and other styles, spotting a bowler hat, a cowboy hat, a fedora, and a really dapper gambling hat, reminding you of New Vegas.

You look through the hats, none seem to catch your eye but one. It looked like a fedora, brown leather hat but more... badass. You pay the cashier 25 caps for the hat and prepare to walk over to Ariel, but she seems to have come over to you first. You bump into her, noticing her new clothing.

"What do you think, Vance?" She turns around, showing her brown leather jacket with just a few scratches, white blouse with just a little dirt stain, jeans, and leather boots.

"Um, for 50 caps?" You say confused by how she got all of it for such a little amount of money.

"You'd be surprised how good I am at bargaining!" She winks at you, noticing your hat. (Yeah, maybe cause it was an old man at the counter.) "Nice hat!" She runs her finger down the rim and pulls it down slightly with a bump of her finger. "Reminds me of a man that my brother would tell stories about, a man who always was looking for treasure." She stares dreamily at the hat.

You approach the weapon vendor's stall; he is a man with a curled brown mustachio with shaggy brown hair wearing a black vest with a long sleeve checkered pattern red fill in the square and blue lines with suit-like pants.

"What may I sell you two today?" He says gesturing toward the guns, "AR-15, 9mm, Colt Revolver, or a laser rifle might suit you, good sir." He says really fast.

"I am just looking, sir." You lean back a bit when he stares at you.

"Well, what about the young miss? She might need something. I have a cute little pink pistol behind the counter somewhe-"

"I'm fine, but do you happen to have a melee weapon?" She asks.

"Why I have a combat knife that was just traded that seems like it is in good condition." He pushes the knife in its holster across the counter. Ariel picks it up, examines it, and then places it on her hip.

"Seems like the miss has taken a liking to that knife, found anything, sir?" He looks at the table.

"What about this hunting rifle? Always good for picking off targets." He gestures toward the rifle with a wooden stock and bolt chamber.

(This guy is giving me a headache) You pick up the Hunting Rifle and look down the sights, clean and just a little bit off, nothing that you can't fix. Ariel puts the knife back in its black sheathe and straps it around her waist, locking the belt, while the Hunting Rifle came with a brown sling that had a tree from autumn engraved on it, but the leather was cracked a bit. Ariel yawns and puts both of her arms around your arm.

"We need to get food and supplies, before we go to bed, Ariel." You say to her playfully.

"Can't we do that in the morning? There's gonna be food at the inn; it's not gonna kill us to wait." She closes her eyes.

You head over to the food vendor, before they close. The most you can see that can be preserved is Nuka-Cola for 5 caps each, bottled water for 10 caps, a can of peanuts for 12 caps, and trail mix for 8 caps.

>Buy your supplies, son, roll a 1d20 to see if they have the supply you want.

Conserve dat money

You buy your supplies and stuff them in the pack and head on over to the inn; it was a great establishment, though it was more like a motel to be honest, and the bar was in the little building. No reason to complain though, unless there are radroaches in the room. You pay 30 caps for a room in the inn to the innkeep, a grey haired woman who is probably going to see the end of her days soon, since she did look like in her eighties range, and I don't think grandma can outrun a Deathclaw. You and Ariel walk up the steps to your motel room and fumble with the keys to get it open. You manage to open the door and set your stuff down on the floor. The room's walls were painted green for some reason and the ceiling was painted white; the bed seemed to be a queen, and the bathroom looks like it cannot hold another piss or shit. You hope you can find water to bathe in before the journey of tomorrow.

We were just traveling, and we still have a fair chunk of change. We can afford to rest up and handle small jobs tomorrow while looking for a big job.

Agreed. We should bring her with, regardless of where we go.

This may be a decent idea, get her drunk, but us fairly sober. Keep her nice and passed out so she doesn't steal our shit.

You and Ariel walk out of the motel room and lock the door on the way out. You quickly go down the stairs with Ariel's hand in yours as you lead her to the bar. You and her round the corner to the bar, seeing a blue neon sign flashing and lighting each letter up one at a time. The two of you pass by it into the bar where a song is playing on the radio which seems to fit a bar. It seems to have a jazzy tune, but with a bit of more beats than swing music.

'Hey, handsome, if you got the time.
I've been watching you, since the moment you arrived.
A white suit from London and shoes from Pare (Paris)'

The music statics from the radio as you go up to the bar, which seems to not have many people staying in, either they are asleep or in their homes by now.

"Pale ale for me." You say to the bartender, flashing your hand.

"Red wine, if I may?" She asks the bartender, who nods his head and gets to the order.

"I didn't think you were the kind to go for wine, Mrs. Emerald." You smile at her, looking into her brown eyes.

"I am the kind for many things, Mr. Smith." She winks, as she licks her pouty lips.

The bartender serves up the drinks, and you drink out of your mug as you try to listen for anything from the few patrons.

As the hour passes by and more clear out, you find yourself down on your luck for finding a job. 3 pale ales and 2 glasses of wine, she is stumbling to the room and holding onto your room. Another 26 caps into the gutter. You lead her up the steps, where she almost falls but you manage to catch her. You lead her to the bed and sit on it, while she collapses on her side.

"Good night, Ariel." You say as you take off your duster and jeans, and she takes off her boots and jacket.

"Hey, Vance?" She whispers.

"Yeah?" You say curiously. Her voice seems oddly shy as she is using her words.

"You looked very handsome today." She said as she put her combat knife and laser pistol on the nightstand.

>>
>>32643527
"Thanks" You say as you hang your hat on the coat hanger and put your shishkebab standing up, your pistol on your nightstand and the hunting rifle in the corner. This seems odd for her personality; she really didn't seem like the shy one. When you turn around, you see her on the bed, under the blanket and sheets, you crawl into bed with her and lay beside her, wrapping your arms around her; your nose in your hair. You never noticed but she has a sweet smell despite the rags she was wearing...

Ending it here for tonight. Worked today, and I am tired. I will stay for a FAQ, review, criticism for a few minutes though!
